A Rich Legacy

Anthony Browder has an extensive portfolio as a celebrated cultural historian, Egyptian archeologist, author, and educational consultant. He is a Howard University graduate who lives in Washington DC. Two of his most recent noteworthy accomplishments include the 10-year anniversary of the ASA Restoration Project and the upcoming 2018 Kemetamorphosis Conference.

ASA Restoration Project Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

This year is the 10th anniversary of the ASA Restoration Project that was established to honor the late Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III, an esteemed psychologist, historian, master teacher, and author who was internationally recognized for his outstanding scholarship regarding ancient Egyptian history.

Following in the tradition of Dr. Hilliard, Mr. Browder and his team have made significant discoveries that will change our understanding of Egyptian history and culture:

He is currently excavating and restoring two 25th dynasty Nubian Kushite Tombs built 2700 years ago for the Kushite noblemen and priest Karakhamun and Karabasken the mayor of Luxor and assumed member of the Royal Kushite Family.

Karakhamun’s Tomb is over three times the size of King Tut’s tomb and contains priceless literary and architectural treasures.

Atlantis Browder was the first African American to enter Karakhamun’s burial chamber; where a 20,000-pound, red granite sarcophagus was discovered.

This year he discovered a complete set of limestone canopic jars in the Karabasken Tomb of a Kushite princess known as “Amenirdis-Lady of the House” that are on display in the Luxor Museum in Egypt.

Mr. Browder’s work is celebrated throughout the world from Egypt to America as the first African American to engage in such a historic undertaking.

Nineveh: A Conflict Over Water | Pre-Release Book Tour with Anthony Browder and Kymone Freeman

Nineveh: A Conflict Over Water | Pre-Release Book Tour with Anthony Browder and Kymone Freeman

Date and time.

Feb 5, 2023 6:30 pm

Description:

Busboys and Poets Books welcomes Kymone Freeman to discuss his new book, Nineveh: A Conflict Over Water in conversation with Anthony Browder  (release date 3/22/23)

Nineveh is a conflict over water set in the future in a post-oil depleted dystopian society. Old cities are now underwater as a result of climate change and new cities have emerged. A massive global drought combined with an epic contamination of the world’s limited fresh water supply combined with the privatization of the remaining unpolluted aquifers has created a crisis of biblical proportions. As a result, water has been priced beyond the affordability of the masses forcing them to collect rainwater which constitutes the new contraband. With a mind altering drug introduced into the limited public supply, there were few resisters that dared to defy the ultimate fascist system.

The Resistance is led by Ndbele, a gifted teacher and sage. His daughter Evolon is his greatest warrior and Bethlehem is his most trusted ally. Nineveh is ruled ruthlessly by Nimrod, the head of the Global Water Corporation that has a stranglehold on the world's water market. He has only one weakness, his nymphomaniac son Saisir.

Howard university alumnus anthony browder shares insights as first to direct egyptian archeological excavation funded by african americans.

anthony browder dc tour 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 5, 2018) — Howard University alumnus Anthony Browder, Ph.D. has been leading groundbreaking work in Egyptian archaeology as the first African American to fund and coordinate an archaeological dig in Egypt. Browder is director of the ASA Restoration Project, which recently celebrated its 10th year, and is responsible for the excavation and restoration of the 25 th dynasty tombs of Karabasken and Karakhamun in Luxor, Egypt. This year, his excavation team discovered 2700-year-old Kushite artifacts that were installed in the Egyptian Museum in Luxor on August 19.

“The ASA Restoration Project is named after Dr. Asa Grant Hilliard, III who was instrumental in shaping my development as a young man, father, and researcher,” says Browder. “We’ve funded three quarters of a million dollars to fund archeological excavation in Egypt. Working in concert with the Egyptian government and Egyptologist Elena Pischikova, we have now proven that the 25 th Dynasty, the only dynasty in Egyptian history that contemporary Egyptologists acknowledge as a “negro” dynasty, were responsible for innovations that were credited to the 26th and 27th dynasties.”

anthony browder dc tour 2023

“In 1987, we started doing lectures at the Harambe House, which is now the Howard bookstore. We did our lectures there for about a year and a half until we outgrew the space,” says Browder. “The Howard University Blackburn Center and other departments helped to coordinate tours for visitors and students. Another beautiful thing about the evolution of my career is that it really coincided with Howard University Television.”

Browder explains how WHUT programming and the presence of African American journalists on Howard’s campus who were impacting Washington, D.C. media helped facilitate a growing interest in the D.C. metropolitan area. Browder credits shows like “For The People” that aired on WHUT and publications like The Washington Afro-American newspaper for helping to promote a renewed interest in African-centered knowledge.

“In January 1993, we held a three-day event at Cramton Auditorium with a special tribute to Listervelt Middleton, the host of “For the People”. We raised $40,000 cash from over 900 people,” says Browder. “This was one of the highlights of my career and in my relationship with Howard. It definitely helped to increase my following, and helped popularize African American history.”

In 2002, Browder’s company began sponsoring annual Kemetamorphosis Conferences. The term “kemetamorphosis,” was coined by Lisa Douglass and refers to the process of evolution and transformation through learning about Kemet (Ancient Egypt). Sharon Pringle, Howard University alumna and co-founder of the conference , co-hosted the very first conference at Howard’s Blackburn Center after joining a study tour to Egypt with Browder in 2000.

The IKG Cultural Resource Center will sponsor the 2018 Kemetamorphosis Conference from Dec. 7 — 9 at the Thurgood Marshall Center in Washington, D.C. The conference will feature a powerful lineup of guest speakers including Browder and celebrity author, performing artist and human rights activist Jennifer Lewis.

“We have to be totally cognizant of the fact that Egypt is the oldest civilization known to mankind and the longest existing civilization in the history of humanity. It thrived for 3,000 years,” says Browder. “Anyone who is a student of African American history knows that during the time of slavery it was illegal for people of African ancestry to read or write, and the past was erased. The work we are doing is modeling for ourselves and our children what we can accomplish when we choose to assume responsibility, to love ourselves and love our history.”

2016 is the 30 th anniversary of the Egypt on the Potomac Field Trip experience.

tony_fieldtrip

Egypt on the Potomac was the culmination of Browder’s reflections on his travels to Egypt and his realization that the Washington Monument, the quintessential icon of the nation’s capital, was a replica of a tekhen (obelisk), which was one of the most significant and prevalent symbols of ancient Egypt.

While researching the history of the design of Washington, DC (the first planned capital in recent history) Browder discovered an effort on the part of Founding Fathers, Freemasons, architects and historians to recreate the best of Nile Valley culture on the banks of Potomac River.

Egypt on the Potomac is not a tour of Washington, DC. It is an artfully crafted Field Trip that begins with a 20-minute video taped history of ancient Egyptian history, mythology, architecture and science. This is followed by brief visits to multiple locations throughout the city where comparisons between ancient and modern history are revealed. Ultimately, an unbelievable narrative comes together, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, to reveal a fascinating story of shared histories and human evolution.

Egypt on the Potomac Field Trip participants leave the experience with a profound appreciation for American and African history and an intense desire to share the experience with family and friends. This shared experience is facilitated thru posters, publications and DVD’s that capture the spirit and feel of the Field Trip.

Egypt on the Potomac Field Trips are sponsored by the IKG Cultural Resource Center and conducted seasonally between April and November. Private Field Trips can be arranged for schools, organizations, conferences and family reunions.
