Often referred to as Andhra Ooty, it is one of the most famous places to experince Andhra Pradesh tourism and is one of the top attractions you must include in Vizag tour packages . Located on the Eastern Ghats at an altitude range of 900 to 1400 meters above sea level, Araku Valley is home to a number of tribal communities. Spread over an area of 36 sq. km, Araku is a perfect tourist destination with pleasant climate, lush greenery, waterfalls and streams. It is popular for its famous coffee plantations. Araku has some interesting places to visit including Borra caves, Tyda, Katiki Falls, Tribal Museum & Padmapuram Botanical Gardens. The hill is also popular for its forests, lovely orchards and the serene environment. The valley is also a perfect place for trekking and it offers several interesting trails. Most known and popular trekking trails go through dense forests to the summit but a few adventurous trails go through many streams and are ideal to view breathtaking waterfalls like the Katiki waterfall. The train journey from Vizag to Araku is a memorable experience with 46 tunnels, several bridges through lush green valleys. Araku is famous for the mustard flowers that change the landscape of the valley from green to yellow in the months of November & December. Several accommodation facilities are available here. Mastyagundam

At a distance of 35 Kms from Araku Valley , Masthyagundam, also called as 'fish pool' is an interesting pool on the Machkund River near the village of Matham (15 kms from Paderu) A barrier of rocks runs right across the river and the stream plunges into a great hole and vanishes beneath this to reappear again at about 100 yards lower down. Just where it emerges under the barrier, it forms a pool which is crowded with fish of all sizes. Now, steps have been formed and one can straight go up to the pool. These are wonderfully tame and feed fearlessly from one's hand. They even let you pat their backs. Here, the tribal and other people venerate the fish. Named after Ranajilleda village, this falls is located on mountain peak and about 10-15 minutes trekking is required to reach the falls from nearest motorable road. To reach the falls, one has to drive straight from Padmapuram Gardens till Ranajilleda village from where the falls can be reached by trekking the summit. Best time to visit these falls is the post monsoon season.

It is about 110   km (68   mi) from Visakhapatnam and many travellers visit this town as part of their trip to Visakhapatnam. In 2011, it was home to 57,000 people. It is a coffee plantation, and there is also a honey industry.

Araku is blessed with enchanting beauty of the hills and greenery, interspersed with streams and rivulets. The morning fog is particularly lovely here. This area is often referred to as Ooty of Andhra. It is a valley in the Eastern Ghats inhabited by several tribes.

Araku Valley is definitely not a day trip, but the APTDC facilities can serve as a decent lodging. Book your APTDC rooms early. November to February are the best months to visit and making an early reservation in the lodges is advisable as Araku Valley has few lodges and hotels.

There are buses that operate from APSRTC that have a daily tour as well as normal operations.

You can also hire a taxi or car for as much as ₹2500 for a round trip and a night stay at Araku.

Take a walk around the small town in the early morning while the fog is still there to catch the beauty of a hill station. Getting around Araku Valley is limited by limited public bus service. At APTDC lodge, cabs can be hired for a day trip through the valley to Borra caves; the ride is amazing.

• Coffee museum, which is just outside Mayuri Resort (Andhra Pradesh Tourism), is also 1 min walk from the Araku Bus Stand. It covers the history of coffee plantations and also sells coffee.

Bamboo chicken is a local specialty. Indian, Chinese, Continental and as well as local South Indian dishes are also available here.
