This is intended to be a quick guide to installing cruise control on a mk5 Astra or facelift Zafira, please read the notes below to understand if this is of use to you before trying to proceed.
1) Some cars are not fitted with a clutch switch, in this case you need to do this in addition to the instructions here, sometimes the plug for that switch is taped up in the loom behind the instruments, other times you will need to run the wire yourself from the passenger footwell.
2) To complete this procedure, you need Tech2 with the CANdi module and the security code for the vehicle, which is printed on the Car Pass.
3) sometimes it is possible to do this programming with OpCom or VauxCom, however I don’t have either of these and can offer very little advice about them. What is well known though, is that the Chinese copies of these diagnostic tools are known to be flawed and they can have unpredictable consequences when used to programme modules, use them at your own risk.
Procedure – Part 1 – enable Cruise Control in CIM
1) Fit the stalk (see my other How to guide if unsure)
2) Check for operation / presence of the clutch switch (see related guide)
3) Connect Tech2, from the front page select Diagnostics and then the age of the vehicle and model.
4) Select “Body”, then “Column Information Module (CIM)” and then after clearing any trouble codes, go to the “Programming” menu.
5) Select “Program Variant Coding” and when the submenu appears, check the settings and highlight “Cruise Control”, press “Modify” and change from “Not present” to “Present”.
6) Press “Program” and Tech2 will lead you through the rest of the process.
7) Back out of the menus to the system categories screen where you chose “Body”.
Procedure – Part 2 – enable Cruise Control in Engine ECU
1) Select “Engine” from the menu, check for and delete any trouble codes.
2) Select “Programming” from the menu as before and then “Program Variant Coding”
3) Highlight “Cruise Control” from the submenu and use the “Modify” key to change its status to Present”.
4) Press the “Program” key and follow Tech2’s instructions to guide you through the rest of the programming process, which should result in a message on Tech1 saying “Programming completed successfully”.
5) Back out of the menus and check the whole vehicle for trouble codes (optional step) to ensure that there are no other issues that might inhibit cruise control why you test it.
Procedure – Part 3 – test cruise control
Drive the car somewhere that you have space to drive at 30mph or more, select an appropriate gear and release the clutch. At the speed you want to set, press the “I” button on the stalk and the speed should be maintained. To increase speed, press “I”, to decrease speed, press “R”. If you want to cancel Cruise Control there are a few ways to do this – press the brake pedal, press the clutch switch or press the “C” button on the stalk. You should test that all of these controls work, with emphasis on the brake and clutch switch inputs which are safety critical. I have included a number of screen shots from Tech2 that should be useful.
Get in touch if any errors are found that need to be corrected – I write this procedure based on numerous sessions programming UK Astra H (Mk5) and Zafira B (mk2).

adding cruise control to a zafira
- Add to quote
not long bought my zafira turbo diesel (X plate) and would like to retrofit cruise control to it i can see i need the stalk, but as it's the diesel i didnt see any throttle cables to the pump so wondered if it's fly by wire?? so i'm guessing that all i may need is the control stalk and maybe some ecu box plugging into the loom somewhere any thought gentlemen?? cheers Kev(newbie!!)
First make sure you have the wiring for the extra plug you get with the cruise control switch this will be a four pin plug located around the indicator stalk plug. If you do have a plug then all you need to do is fit the cc switch and have the engine ecu programed for cc. If you dont have a plug then it still can be done but its a bit of an arse.
will check that 4-pin socket out. could the ECU be already set-up for cruise? or will vauxhall have to enable it?? Kev
Try it first it mite work but all the one's ive done need the ecu programed
Just the stalk is all you need on the DTis. Vectra, AstraG, Zaffy.
cheers boys ran into another slight problem this morning, looks i have to remove the steering wheel to get at the colum stalks. for the life of me i can't see how to get at them without removing the wheel. as it's my first car that has a drivers airbag, are there any special procedures to follow if i remove the wheel? kev
I think the thing to do is disconnect battery. Leave for half hour, then the gas in the airbag will be discharged. You can then remove without it going off. Others will confirm this!!
You dont have to remove the wheel to get the covers off
sounds better how do i go about it?? or can the stalk be removed without disturbing them? cheers Kev
Ok remove the two screws covered by the black caps need to move wheel to see them, Once removed the top cover can be taken off Remove two silver screws facing downwards and remove single screw under bottom cover You should be able to now move the bottom cover down enough to take out the switch push tags in top and bottom to release it
DOH!!! never thought about moving the wheel round to gain access!!!! must have been blinded by the thought of having to remove a wheel with an airbag............ left a few enquires last night at some online vauxhall parts places to see if a stalk can be found at the right price suppose the next trick will be 18" rims and a diesel chip upgrade??? cheers again fellaz Kev
They are about £30 from Vauxhall, so it aint' gonna break the bank.
YEAH BABY!!!!!! £31.02 for a new stalk from vauxhall how i managed without cruise before i will never know????? i assume that every vauxhall DTi should work if there fly-by-wire cheers all who helped (now whats next to upgrade or change.......) Kev
can anyone confirm that this is the same for a petrol Zaffy. Mine is a 1.8 Cheers
if it's a Z18XE, then you'll just need the Stalk, and probably 4 pin brake switch and clutch switch. (Diesels already have them so you may get lucky). The Petrol ECUs need to be enabled for Cruise Control, some are from the factory, some not. If not then you'll need a trip to VX as well.
They just need to enable cruise control in the engine management ecu.
Ok so I've got the covers off and fitted a Vauxhall Cruise Control stalk and found the clutch switch on the diesel zafira we have just bought, and guess what, no wiring for the CC stalk. How much of a pain is it to fit the wiring? Any help welcome. regards
you have to run wires to the big multi plug going out to the engine bay behined the glove box. finding the correct pins to go in to will be a pain
Do you know where I can get a wiring diagram from with pin outs etc. ?
The wires should be plugged into a blank connector, clipped to the top of the column. Certainly are on Vecs. Just unplug the blank, plug in the stalk connector, and clip it back where the blank was clipped in.

That simple huh? Thanks for the info...
Yep thats all i had to do on a 05 1.8 sri but the diesel should be the same.

Tech 2 Guru
Welcome to the Tech2 Guru website.
Here you will find a wealth of information on what is possible to add and change on your Vauxhall. The Vauxhall dealer network will often tell you things are not possible or prohibitively expensive. This is usually because they are not permitted to make changes or do not know what needs to be done.
We’ve become leaders in the retrofit of factory options, having had the opportunity, resources and time to invest in filling the gap the dealer network is unwilling or unable to fill.
Tech2.Guru is complimented by the discussion forums over at our sister site diagnostics.org.uk . If you want to discuss or ask questions about what you have seen on this site, then please head on over there.
We manufacture our own custom looms using the same tools and terminals as used at the factory so that wires can just be plugged into the connector without any issues. If a retorfit requires the right connector, then these are supplied as well. Please check out the shop for more on what we can provide.
We are authorised on GM Europe InfoTech online system for programming and access to dealer level repair information and bulletins. All programming is done in house by Tech2.guru.
A lot of time and effort is put into developing and maintaining this website. The information contained within and the advice given can save you money even if you don’t engage the services of the Tech2.Guru directly. To say thanks, why not donate the equivalent of a coffee to support the continued development of the site.
When working on Opel / Vauxhall cars, there are several reasons why you would need to know the Security Code of the car or just the individual part in front of you. If you don’t have this, you can either turn the job away, or obtain the security code from Vauxhall, which needs the owner’s V5C proof of ownership document and can cost up to £40 a time.
To overcome this issue we developed our own in house software to enable us to decode the security information from the car, meaning we will not turn you away if you don’t have the car pass. We now offer our software to all at a price that will pay for itself after the equivalent of just 2 requests at a dealer.
Online version included at no additional cost. Also buy credits for low volume users

I saw Richard over the weekend to have some work done retrofitting bluetooth on my Insignia. On behalf of the wife and me, I would like to give him a big Thank You.
His work ethic and cleanliness are second to none. The job was performed beyond our expectations and it was good to chat to him (whilst he was working as well)
After making a huge mistake buying a Insignia assuming it had Bluetooth I was told by many main dealers and hands free specialists that a retrofit was not possible I found Richard and got a appointment went along and in no time I was driving away a very happy bunny with fully functioning factory Bluetooth he is a genuine guy and worth every penny thank you
James Ansell
NCDR1100, CID and CDC3 pairing and just like magic Richard Peck sorted me out again Thanks for your time tonight mate I really appreciate it and my brain is still trying to take in how you did it all it really was clever how he got the cd changer to work. I’m hoping to get the 2nd unit into a condition where it can be paired to
A massive thank you to pecky for installing bluetooth in my insignia, its great A really good tidy job works perfectly worth every penny & every mile travelled to get to you thanks

I wanted to retro fit folding mirrors into my car. Problem was i did not have the wiring loom to support this feature and did not fancy the £££ VXL charge for them. Rick made a wiring loom up for both passenger and driver doors, i fitted them added some extra wiring to connect the two together and the job was done perfectly. Not only did he supply the looms but he gave me information and diagrams that made the job easier to do and understand. thanks for all the help!
Gary Conway
After a few exchanges of messages, i arranged to meet up and get the CD70 in my Vectra C sorted out, and get bluetooth installed. Made to feel really welcome, job was done in no time and i drove away a very happy customer. There are not many who can offer the servies available. A job very well done – Thank you.
Pecky fitted and activated a set of afl lights on my astra Vxr. They are awesome he did a great job would strongly recommend him and this mod.

Richard is a very rare commodity, not only knows the Tech 2 stuff inside out but a top fella as well. Got my CDC40 and GID installed and working, something the local VX dealers couldn’t even get close to.
Found Richard on AOC yesterday. It is now 10:00 AM and I am back home after visiting his house 30 miles from me. He has fitted cruise control, activated BC, speed locking and check control. All in less than 30 minutes. Great service at a very low price. Not worth messing around yourself. Top guy!
Tony Comerford
Found Rick via astra owners club forums, a few private messages later arranged for him to fit cruise control from scratch as my car didn’t have any of the factory parts pre installed. Arrived at his at 10am by 11.30 job was done and completly working. knows exactly what he’s doin and also has the proper tech2 kit to do it with. Cannot fault the guy many thanks. Will use him again if I need anything
Top service and all round nice guy! Can’t fault!

Hi, just recieved my new zafira design and overall very happy other than the lack of cruise control. looking at other posts it seems that you can activate the cruise function by fitting the cruise control stick. Does this apply to the Zafira as well? If so is there anyone out there that could do it, I dont like the idea of trying it on a brand new car myself! I was also wondering if the ecu can be remapped to the higher factory standard output, mine is the 110 and i think there is a 125??? Many thanks.
Hi, It certainly is possible just by swapping the stalk and programming it. Closest person to you I know who I'd trust is LADmachining http://www.diagnostics.org.uk/help/m...5-LADmachining who's over in Southhampton As for the remap, you would invalidate your warranty, but it's something I haven't got into so can't really advise on that.

2011 Zafira Elite Cruise Control Question
- Add to quote
I'm about to purchase a 2011 1.7 Ecoflex Zafira Elite (amazingly with only 13000 miles on the clock) and was wondering if the cruise control comes with a speed limiter option in addition to the basic set the speed and take your foot off the accelerator. It's something I've always wished my current 2002 Previa had, particularly when driving through the miles of 50mph roadworks currently on the M1. I can find no mention of it on any Zafira documentation I can find so I'd write it off as unlikely with that generation of Vauxhall, but my friend insists his brother's old 2007 Corsa had it. Thanks in advance.

1.7 is it diesel? 5 years old 13k on clock hope its got a decent service history if it is diesel, they should be worked hard 13k in 5 years isn't good
Says full dealer service history. Not got it yet, it's been ordered from one of the dealer's other sites, I'm going to take it out on a test drive before buying it when it arrives early next week.
Thats what i do as well on the m6. It works well enough i find Bill
Mine is the 1.9 cdti elite and its now done 85k ive had to clean the egr valve and boost sensor a couple of times but generally it starts when i need it and goes well. Very reliable so far (touch wood) I think mine is the standard cruise then. I can get up to speed required and switch on . I can use the buttons on it to increase or decrease it as i require Bill
Just be very careful it can't be far off 6 years old that's just over 2000 miles a year, should be clocking up minimum 10-12k a year for a diesel, we purchased a 1.3 4 years old 18k on clock and I made sure fsh checked dpf plus lots more, it's had almost 14k put on it after a year (corsa d)
Mate is a mechanic and the only thing he says I need be worried about is the DPF. He suggests a good thrashing for a couple of miles to activate its auto clean should be fine. As said, it also says full Vauxhall service history so I presume it's had a regular oil change at least once a year and whatever else was required. I'm also paying an extra £500 for a full two year warranty and it's a main dealer I'm buying it from.
No, what he is asking about is a speed limiter which is a totally different function. Cruise control does have a resume function which is what you have described.

Cos it's fly by wire it is just a software update that will allow the cruise control to operate and all the cruise switch does is to interrupt the signal between the pedal and engine until it is switched off of the brake light is switched on.
