Stick Figure (formed in 2006) is an American dub and roots reggae project founded by the Massachusetts-native and multi-instrumentalist Scott Woodruff, which has since expanded into a four-piece band.

Hailing from Duxbury, Massachusetts, U.S., Scott Woodruff formed Stick Figure as an outlet for his musical talents and interest in the reggae genre. Adopting the sobriquet Stick Figure he was given during high school, during college Woodruff would enthusiastically submit instrumental tracks to the Sublime Archive website. The musician issued his debut album “The Sound of My Addiction” in 2006, crafted by layering tracks upon one another in unison. The record introduced Woodruff to a small, devoted group of listeners, however his second, “Burnin’ Ocean”, did wonders for his national exposure with the album charting impressively on the iTunes Reggae Chart. Released in 2008, the record was led by the single “So Good”, which notably borrows the melody of Gary Jules’ “Mad World”.

In 2009 Woodruff issued his most hard-hitting album to date, “Smoke Stack”, featuring more aggressive vocals, echoes of dub, and heavy bass. Following the release the multi-instrumentalist moved to San Diego, California and enlisted the help of a full band in aid of his fourth full-length album “Reprise Session” (2010).

Featuring respected reggae singer Half Pint, Stick Figure’s fifth studio album “Burial Ground” was seen to be Woodruff’s most innovative album to date and represented a growth in his musical prowess. The 2012 record topped the iTunes and Billboard Reggae charts after which Woodruff invited keyboardist Kevin Bong, drummer Kevin Offitzer, and bassist Tommy Suliman to join him on the record’s supporting tour and subsequent releases.

Live reviews

The Claifornian reggae group opened the show with my favourite track of theirs, Smokin’ Love, so I knew the show was going to be a hit for me. Their chilled out sound had everyone in the audience swaying along, drink in hand, from start to finish. It’s great music for creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and the band encouraged that by chatting casually with us in the audience and making sure we were all enjoying the show. They’re all really talented instrumentalists, and watching the band support themselves entirely on keys, drums, guitars and additional percussion was refreshing. They each had a microphone, and were great at harmonising with each other, demonstrating their musical versatility.

With five studio albums under their belt, I was intrigued to see what songs they would select for their show, and how they would fit it into a set. I’ll say to start with that the show was actually nearly 2 hours long, which was brilliant, so they covered a lot of material. They worked almost chronologically from The Sound of My Addiction, through to Burial Ground, and it was great to hear the way that their sound has adapted over the years. They each performed great instrumental solos, further accentuating the sheer talent of the group.

Massachusetts roots reggae and dub band Stick Figure create a sound that seems to far outdate their formation in 2006. Inspired by some of the true greats of the genre, the four musicians come together expertly to create a truly authentic roots reggae sound that has gone down brilliantly with a fast growing fanbase.

Whenever they breeze into town they bring some of the laid back South Carolina air and simply mellow out the whole audience as they groove to the irresistible beats. Scott Woodruff is a great frontman, constantly getting the audience involved and making sure that everybody is enjoying every aspect of the show. They hold the crowd's attention for a 15 song set in order to showcase the very best selections from the five albums they have currently released. The 'Hawaii Song' brings some much needed summer air into the venue whilst 'Golden Hour' is all about the slick drum beats to keep everybody dancing along. The group receives a deservedly loud applause at the finale of an enjoyable, fun filled show.

Stick Figure killed it as always but this show was special due to TJ O’Neill joining the guys for a few classic joints that brought the house down(so RAD). The crowd must’ve been hypnotized with the vibes SF was throwing at us because they weren’t as lively as I’ve experienced before with their Oregon shows. All in all, Stick Figure proved they’ve masterfully come into their own as artists with their signature sound and engaging energetic performances. Scott is the man but the whole band really shined individually as well; proving that things get more refined with time when you’re united with a common purpose; to be true reggae rockstars. Stay Irie Stick Figure and I hope to see you this summer in Eugene. Peace

Great performers who know how to get the crowed going and have a good time. With a distinctive sound developed through tireless attention to musicality and artistry, Stick Figure has redefined American reggae music with his latest album, Wisdom, released in September. As with his previous releases, Wisdom was written, produced and recorded by Scott Woodruff, a self-taught musician, at Stick Figure-owned Great Stone Studios in Oakland, California, former home of Green Day.

Wisdom is Stick Figure’s seventh album and follows the unprecedented success of 2019’s World on Fire, which peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Top 200, No. 6 overall Top Album, No. 1 Independent, and No. 1 Reggae album. World on Fire has sold more than 300,000 copies including streaming equivalents, according to Nielsen Soundscan data. Stick Figure’s catalog has now sold well over 1 million copies and been streamed over 3 billion times. On the live side, Stick Figure averaged more 4,200 tickets sold per show on an almost entirely sold out 2022 tour, according to Pollstar, and is slated to play major multi-genre festivals in 2023 after headlining the top reggae festivals in 2022.

These numbers would be impressive by any metric, yet Stick Figure has achieved this rarified air completely independently, with no label or outside producers. Throughout the credits of Wisdom, Woodruff and a small cadre of collaborators, namely childhood friend TJ O’Neill, prove that manufactured music does not have to exclusively dominate the charts. Streaming alongside today’s biggest pop stars, Stick Figure has transcended the genre while always embracing his love of reggae music. Much like other bands supported Stick Figure during his ascent, Woodruff works with up and coming artists to help foster a vibrancy that keeps the scene strong and growing faster than ever before, exposing it to new listeners with an authenticity that stays true to his roots, while pushing the boundaries of sound that people expect from the genre.

The evolution of the artist most often portrayed as a one-man band has its genesis in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Well before achieving worldwide acclaim or embracing the demand to play live shows, Scott was an avid music fan who in high school traded bootleg CDs of his favorite artists’ unreleased demos. It was then that he began recording a series of albums under the moniker of Stick Figure.

From his debut, The Sound of My Addiction, Scott’s handcrafted music connected with a community of avid listeners who discovered him exclusively by word of mouth and social media. Selling tens of thousands of copies of each of his self-produced releases allowed him to travel the world in pursuit of experience. Scott moved to San Diego where his recording career continued to blossom. As recently as 2012, he was putting up his own posters for Burial Ground at the California Roots Festival. In 2019, Stick Figure was commanding center stage as the headliner for the massive event. Today, Stick Figure is still embracing the DIY work ethic, while selling out amphitheaters and having his music played more than any other living reggae artist in the world.

Stick Figure 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule

Stick Figure 2022 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule

Stick Figure has a series of performances coming up in summer 2022, and it’s a great time to see the Southern California-based reggae band! They’ll kick off the month-long trek on June 3rd in Englewood, CO, and continue through July 3rd in Brooklyn, NY.

The group has been taking advantage of post-pandemic touring to the extreme, posting Instagram photos of packed crowds in Salt Lake City, UT, Lake Tahoe, CA, and more. They’ve also played festivals alongside reggae favorites like 311 and Slightly Stoopid , performing hits from the past 16 years as their fans sway, dance, and mentally deep-dive into every song. There’s still plenty of time to see Stick Figure in 2022, as they’re performing in major cities like Cocoa, FL, Asheville, NC, Baltimore, MD, and more.

We can’t decide our favorite thing about Stick Figure concerts. Perhaps it’s the rock-reggae hits like “Smokin’ Love,” “Choice is Yours,” and “All For You,” with calming yet invigorating energy. And it doesn’t hurt that an adorable Australian Shepard, aptly called “Cocoa the tour dog,” takes the stage with the band every night as their biggest fan. Each night, the group puts on a unique show that leaves the audience walking away fulfilled, appreciative, and energized with Southern California reggae energy. And we couldn’t ask for anything more at a Stick Figure concert.

Will there be any new songs in the mix at these Stick Figure concerts? All signs point to yes. In February, the Stick Figures Instagram posted a message saying “new year, new music, new live set,” with a series of checkmark emojis. It’s been several years since they released their seventh album, 2019’s World on Fire, and fans believe a new record is right around the corner. We’re unsure of any release dates but can only hope to hear a few new songs from Stick Figure!

For more than two decades, SOJA have elated audiences across the globe with their fresh yet timeless take on roots reggae, a sound born from their shared passion for making music that transports and inspires. On their Grammy Award Winning album, Beauty in the Silence — the band deepens that communal spirit by collaborating with artists from all corners of the reggae world, including the likes of UB40, Slightly Stoopid, Stick Figure, and Rebelution. Fueled by the sheer force of their connection and chemistry, Beauty in the Silence ultimately makes for a much-needed antidote to fractured times, infusing so much warmth and wisdom and unstoppable joy into each and every track.

Little Stranger

Born and raised in Philly, crash landed in Charleston, Kevin and John Shields are breaking into previously uncharted waters with their quirky indie hip-hop group, Little Stranger. Between John’s melodic singer-songwriter magnetism, Kevin’s in-your-face delivery, and an overall undeniable groove, this duo is sure to get any audience up and moving. Stylistically reminiscent of Gorillaz and Odelay-era Beck, Little Stranger delivers a fresh take on melodic hip-hop. Every track brings the uniqueness and strangeness that their name implies. For the past few years, the duo has perfected their live performance by playing over 100 shows per year prior to the coronavirus shutdown. The group also puts a big focus on creating arresting visual experiences through their music videos, their own eccentric television program (LSTV), and in-house graphics. Between their out-of-the-box creative endeavors and an ever-increasing arsenal of new tunes, Little Stranger is poised to make 2023 another slam dunk.

Stick Figure, Expendables bring vibes on Cosmic, Coco night

stick figure band tour 2022

International touring band Stick Figure sold out Bally’s Lake Tahoe Casino Resort showroom on May 24.

Fans traveled great distances and bought up tickets within only a couple days of ticket release. After years of not playing live performances due to Covid19 pandemic shutdowns, Stick Figure’s fan base has been growing rapidly and fans have been eagerly awaiting announcement of a tour. The long-awaited tour has been full of energy and Tuesday night was no exception. Santa Cruz based band The Expendables opened for the show, originally supposed to be The Elovators, the first act still brought the heat.

Lead singer, Scott Woodruff also is known for his sweet, stage loving dog Coco. You could tell Coco felt back at home being on stage, popping balloons all night and playing with new dog toys that the crowd was throwing up there for her.

It was with amazement we were also able to witness Scott Walker of Scott Walker electric guitars make a guest appearance on the pedal steel guitar for the song “Angels Above Me.” Electric guitarist Johnny Cosmic and lead guitar and vocals Scott Woodruff represented with California-made Scott Walker guitars.

When the song “Burn The Night” went on the crowd immediately took out whatever light source they had and waved it in rhythm to the music for a magical moment.

As the performance went on the energy kept going up and up. Keyboardist Kevin Bong, notorious for playing barefoot finally kicked off his shoes at the last song and Woodruff jumped into the crowd with mic in hand still strongly singing.

To add to the excitement and everyone’s surprise an intoxicated fan jumped on stage during a Stick Figure song only to be chased off by band crew and security. A first for this tour but not an uncommon occurrence. to say the least.

The show ended with a big birthday shoutout and cake complete with candles to drummer Kevin Offitzer.

This night was as lively as it gets, and full of life for the music that is back for good.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023 at 10 a.m. PST.

Redefining American reggae music, Wisdom, is the group's seventh album that features cavernous grooves, sparkling electronic orchestration and thick rhythms. Each of the 14 tracks pay homage to Stick Figure's roots-dub reggae foundation while pushing the genre's boundaries and exploring what's possible. The release of Wisdom signifies a new era of accessibility for reggae music, without sacrificing authenticity with notable hits like "Way of Life" and "Paradise."

The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is proud to offer an expansive VIP service including open bar packages, private expedited entry, dedicated hosts, merchandise delivery, custom swag, and access to luxury suites and VIP lounges to its guests for an unparalleled live entertainment experience. With a distinctive sound developed through tireless attention to musicality and artistry, Stick Figure has redefined American reggae music with his latest album, Wisdom, released on September 9th, 2022. As with his previous releases, Wisdom was written, produced and recorded by Scott Woodruff, a self-taught musician, at Stick Figure-owned Great Stone Studios in Oakland, CA, former home of Green Day.

Wisdom is Stick Figure's seventh album and follows the unprecedented success of 2019's World on Fire, which peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 overall Top albums, #1 Independent, and #1 Reggae album. World on Fire has sold over 300,000 copies including streaming equivalents, according to Nielsen soundscan data. Stick Figure's catalog has now sold well over one million copies and been streamed over three billion times. On the live side, Stick Figure averaged over 4,200 tickets sold per show on an almost entirely sold out 2022 tour, according to Pollstar, and is slated to play major multi-genre festivals in 2023 after headlining the top reggae festivals in 2022.

These numbers would be impressive by any metric, yet Stick Figure has achieved this rarified air completely independently, with no label or outside producers. Throughout the credits of Wisdom, Woodruff and a small cadre of collaborators, namely childhood friend TJ O'Neill, prove that manufactured music does not have to exclusively dominate the charts. Streaming alongside today's biggest pop stars, Stick Figure has transcended the genre while always embracing his love of reggae music. Wisdom is a journey and a search for what matters in life-a search for meaning, purpose, place and belonging. Wisdom is a code to live by where we can accept that it is ok to start over, to make mistakes, to love, and to feel pain. It is a reminder to focus on the little things that bring joy and know that all of it is a part of our individual story. It also shows us that we should have some fun doing it all! In signature Stick Figure style, Wisdom can bring peace and happiness in the dark moments as well as in the good times, and the benefits of the music can stay with the listener long after the record has stopped spinning.

An intuitive and accomplished producer, Woodruff crafts authentic artistry from the foundation of roots-dub reggae, featuring cavernous grooves, sparkling electronic orchestration, and thick rhythms. With a soundscape that is as much Kygo or Tame Impala as it is Bob Marley or Sublime, his music has evolved throughout time while staying true to his Signature Sound . Wisdom is undoubtedly Stick Figure's best production to date, and the attention to detail throughout the album's 14 tracks create a top-notch sonic experience that is tailor made for a beach party and also perfectly suited for a solitary hike through the woods. Inside the historic studio, Stick Figure band member Johnny Cosmic, an accomplished producer in his own right, teams up with Woodruff to mix each track. When completed, a brotherhood of hard-jamming musicians delivers this widescreen soundtrack in concert performances of consciousness-altering celebration. The evolution of the artist most often portrayed as a one-man band has its genesis in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Well before achieving worldwide acclaim or embracing the demand to play live shows, Scott was an avid music fan who in high school traded bootleg CDs of his favorite artists' unreleased demos. It was then that he began recording a series of albums under the moniker of Stick Figure.

From his debut, The Sound of My Addiction, Scott's handcrafted music connected with a community of avid listeners who discovered him exclusively by word of mouth and social media. Selling tens of thousands of copies of each of his self-produced releases allowed him to travel the world in pursuit of experience. Scott moved to San Diego, CA where his recording career continued to blossom. As recently as 2012, he was putting up his own posters for Burial Ground at the California Roots Festival. In 2019, Stick Figure was commanding center stage as the headliner for the massive event. In 2022 Stick Figure is still embracing the DIY work ethic, while selling out amphitheaters and having his music played more than any other living reggae artist in the world.

Preceding Wisdom, Stick Figure released seven albums, all recorded solo, with Woodruff laying down the tracks one by one. The current live band line-up features Kevin Bong (KBong) on keyboards, Kevin Offitzer on drums, bassist Tommy Suliman, John Gray (Johnny Cosmic) on guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, and Will Phillips on percussion, with Scott upfront on guitar and vocals. Bong, Offitzer and Suliman have been with the band for ten years and the camaraderie on stage is infectious. Stick Figure concerts are gatherings distinguished by audience sing-alongs, hard hitting bass, extended improvisational interludes, the mind-manifesting hues of a light show, and the much-anticipated entrance of the band's canine mascot, a rescued Australian Shepherd named Cocoa The Tour Dog. Cocoa has her own 501(c)3 charity and is the only dog to ever receive a trophy for her role in selling out the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in one day. The show becomes a family gathering that spans across age and demographic, all coming together for good vibes and music. The release of Wisdom signifies a new era of accessibility for reggae music, without sacrificing authenticity. The genre can no longer be written off as a footnote when the total consumption rivals that of most other major genres. Woodruff's imaginative and thoughtfully crafted creations have made reggae a way of life for people of all backgrounds, and with Stick Figure showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, the people are ready for more.

Sublime Releases First New Song in 28 Years — with Vocals from Late Frontman Bradley Nowell and His Son Jakob

T he 'Santeria' band reunited earlier this year with the late lead singer's son Jakob Nowell at the helm for a performance at Coachella

  • Sublime has released its first new song in 28 years, "Feel Like That" with late frontman Bradley Nowell, his son Jakob Nowell and Stick Figure
  • "This song came about in an organic way," said Jakob
  • Following a viral Coachella set, the band is touring throughout the rest of 2024

Sublime is back with a new song for the first time in 28 years — and the track features vocals from both the band's late frontman Bradley Nowell and his son, Jakob Nowell.

The reggae-punk fusion band's new track, " Feel Like That ," also features Scott Woodruff of Stick Figure on vocals, as well as the band's founding members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh. Sublime's first release since their viral Coachella set with Jakob, 28, at the helm , the song also marks almost 28 years since Bradley's death from a heroin overdose on May 25, 1996.

“This song came about in an organic way. My uncles and I always want to collab with artists in different modern music scenes," Jakob said in a press release. "But hearing my own voice on a track side by side with my dad's voice really feels like the classic Sublime sound stepping into the modern era."

"SoCal music is my family’s pride and joy and our family is getting bigger everyday. 'Feel Like That' captures this new sentiment and we want it to be the first of many," Nowell added. "Who wants to join the family next?"

Producers on the new track include Grammy award-contributors Woodruff and Johnny Cosmic, as well as the band's longtime collaborator Michael "Miguel" Happoldt. The Stick Figure musician told Rolling Stone ahead of the song's release that he worked to create the track using old recordings of an improvised jam session between Bradley, Wilson, and Gaugh from 1996

"Sublime is who inspired me to make music, being a part of this track is a full circle moment in so many ways. From the vault to the people, this one’s been a long time coming!" Woodruff said in a press statement.

Jakob told Rolling Stone that it was a "beautiful thing" for him to pay homage to his late father on the song. "My dad has a verse and then I have a verse and then Stick closes out the song," he said.

Bassist Wilson also chimed in to speak out on the release of the track, telling the outlet they were "blessed" to still have the old recordings of their performances together — and to have a perfect outtake ready for use.

"They say timing is everything, and I think they were right! It’s super awesome to hear Brad and Jakob singing side by side on the same track. I’m sure this song is gonna set the mood for the summer," he wrote in an email to the publication.

Sublime originally saw massive success in the mid 1990s with their tracks like "Santeria" and "What I Got" which blended elements of punk, reggae, ska and funk — and experienced continued radio success even after Nowell's death .

In a press statement, drummer Gaugh joked that "good things come to those who wait… and wait…and wait…"

"We've been waiting too damn long!!! Now hear this!!! This is the good s--- that make you 'FEEL LIKE THAT!'" Gaugh wrote.

The band is also set to embark on a North American tour at various festivals across the U.S., with stops at Virginia Beach, Virginia, for the Point Break Festival, the San Diego Bayfest in California, and a final stop in Riviera Maya, Mexico, for the Closer To The Sun Festival. Fans can visit sublimelbc.com for the full list of dates.

Additionally, in 2022, it was announced that a biopic about Sublime was in the works. According to Variety ,   Hunger Games  director Francis Lawrence is set to direct the project and  Ozark  showrunner Chris Mundy will write the script. Gaugh, Wilson, Jakob and his mother Troy were set to serve as executive producers, but a release date has yet to be announced.

Jakob previously spoke with PEOPLE about reuniting the band and taking over his father's mantle, stating that his decision to reunite the group was as much for his father as it was for the original trio's fans.

"There's been people asking me to join the band since I was 12, and it was something I never wanted to do," he told PEOPLE in April. "I'd always told myself I'd never do the Sublime thing."

"It's emotionally complicated. I didn't want to step on the toes of a passed family member," he added, later noting that: "...I think stepping into this role has given me a lot of closure. The story feels complete."
