Julión Alvarez (born April 11, 1983) is a Mexican singer-songwriter and frontman of Julión Alvarez y Su Noteño Banda, hailing from Chiapas, Mexico.

Prior to forming Julión Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda, Alvarez had previously been in the bands MR BANDA and MS Band, the latter of which was a 15 member Sinaloa band. After three and a half years with MS Band, in which time he released the singles “Ayer la Vi Por La Calle” and “Mi Mayor Anhelo”, Alvarez formed Julión Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda.

The band signed with the Universal Latino subsidiary Machete Music label, and earned their first taste of success with their debut album “Carazón Mágico” in 2007. The album features the hit single “Las Mulas de Moreno” and was supported with an extensive tour of Mexico. With this popularity the band released a pair of live albums “”Desde Mazatlan: A Mover el Culito” and Cumria del Río” in 2008.

Alvarez and his band subsequently released the albums “Corridos” in 2008, “Julión Alvarez: con Banda” in 2009, “El rey del carnaval” in 2010, and the highly popular “Ni lo intentes”, which remained in the Top 10 for over five months. In 2011 Alvarez released the single “Olvídame” which earned considerable radio airplay and became one in a series of hits for the group. In August of 2011 Julión Alvarez was nominated for eight award at the Billboard Regional Mexican Music Awards. In 2012 the band released the album “Julión Alvarez: en vivo”, and in 2013 earned their first No. 1 album with “Tu Amigo nada más”. Alvarez subsequently released the album “Soy lo que Quiero… Indispensable” in 2014.

Last night when I got the opportunity to see,dance and sing along, with Julion Alvarez. It was spectacular show and I love it that he seems to be a down to earth Artist and I would love to see him again. Because he wasn't boring and I had a great time. The only thing is that his camera crew needs focus on showing him while he is sing along with the videos because he look very little and we had trouble seeing him sometimes. But what we got experience last night was worth the wait.. He is a great artist that I will be seeing in the future if possible and God bless him and his family and that career continues to growing. Love a your number fan in San Antonio Texas.

Hello every this was my 1st experience in a concert but the main reason i whent to the event its was a surprise b day present for my wife she a big big big fan of julion alvarez. Im also a big fan love his music, sings about the truths about relationships and how they start and how they end. If i had the chance to go see him again i would, it was a excellent experience especially with the one i love. THANK YOU JULION ALVAREZ

La verdad q me enamore de el es humilde canta espectacular y muy respetuoso!Lo volveré a ver cuando venga a usa cerca de fresno!!!No era fan de su música pero ahora si!!!

Barely two weeks after debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart with his covers album Mis Ídolos, Hoy Mis Amigos, regional Mexican star Julión Álvarez y su Norteña Band have announced an ambitious U.S. tour playing mostly arenas in 22 cities.

The Mis Ídolos…Hoy Mis Amigos! tour kicks off July 15 at the SAP Center in San José, Ca., with tickets on sale May 13. From there, the tour heads out to The Forum in Los Angeles (July 16), Viejas Arena in San Diego (July 17), Toyota Center in Houston (July 22) and 18 other cities on both coasts. This will mark the first time Álvarez, whose music is a sometimes irreverent, sometimes romantic mix of traditional Mexican banda and norteño, will play venues like The Theater at MSG in New York City (July 30) and Eagle Bank Arena in Washington, DC (July 31).

Julion Alvarez Denies U.S. Treasury's Accusations of Drug Ties

It’s all part of what promoter CMN has been touting as a new way of promoting regional Mexican music, the top selling Latin music genre in the U.S.

“In 2016, regional Mexican music is going to have the same level as pop music,” CMN president/CEO Henry Cárdenas told Billboard last year. “The top regional Mexican acts will be playing arenas.”

The top acts certainly include Álvarez, who to date has notched three No. 1s on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and five No. 1s on Regional Mexican Airplay. Last year, Alvarez was the top-selling regional Mexican artist of the year, according to Nielsen Music.

Still, the move to an arena tour is novel, and unprecedented; although established regional Mexican acts like Vicente Fernandez and Juan Gabriel (who is also considered a pop artist) play arenas, no norteño/banda acts have been known to do so on such a large scale. 

While regional Mexican music is probably the most lucrative subgenre of Latin music when it comes to touring in this country, the vast majority of the shows take place in large convention centers, community centers and clubs, where dancing is as important as drinking.

Taking these shows to arenas marks a departure in how they’re promoted and purchased.

“I think ‘dances’ are going to see a drastic change,” says Cárdenas. “And fans are going to want to sit down in an arena with  great production values, air conditioning and a good seat.”
