Top 5 airlines flying to Yukon

Great. Loved that there was WiFi on flight to keep in touch and excellent service of beverages and snacks.

Business class is great. New airplane, very comfortable, better than some of the major airlines I am used to

Terrible. Flight was cancelled due to the weather in the east and sout east(florida). Did not get any compesation of any kind. According to them, it was not under their control so I lost all the money paid for the 2 fairs from Raleigh, NC to Orlando, Fl.

great flight. Pilot was communicative, flight attendants were excellent. Really nice experience except my tv didn’t work.

Overall, the flight was better than the flight I took to go to Florida, which had a bunch of problems. The crew is really nice and the plane was new so it had a small problem when we were on the runway, but the flight itself was great. They even made some time back up, which is always a good thing.

at the time for boarding the lady just call Group A and no other goups and everybody from A to F go inside without the right turn, and when we get in theres no more spsce for carry on , the ones that get in at not correct group from the back occupy our space !!!!! a mess !!!!

There were multiple delays but JetBlue tried to make the boarding and departure process as quick and efficient as possible. The crew was as detached from reality as could be, meaning: not very friendly and just doing things by the numbers.

I had back trouble prior to my flight and everyone was great about helping me.

Jetblue needs to improve on Onboarding as it seems to always be behind on departing. It never leaves on time. I would recommend to have an earlier Onboarding in order to leave on time and respect your customers time as well.

40 minute delay before take off after boarding flight. Bright lights throughout night flight due Issues with light panels. In flight Entertainment nonfunctional

Flight was delayed 2.5 hours - a big deal on an overnight when you plan to sleep.

I feel like they have upgraded the app since I last flew United and I found it to be super helpful. I had stopped flying United unless absolutely necessary and my experience on this trip indicates they have been working hard to improve their services.

Surprisingly easy! I was hesitant to try this, but the cost swayed me. I actually felt like I had less stress than all the taxiing and possible delays that occur with short regional flights where you spend less time in the air than getting to and from the plane..

This flight was delayed multiple times and eventually canceled around 2-3ish. Original take off time was around 10:30am. By 3, there were no other options out of Houston, so stuck in Houston for from 3pm - 11am the next day.

Should have video screens Plane audio was poor and without wired connection hard to understand crew. Should serve more than just cups of water and pretzels on six hour flight. Did not see crew rest of flight. Fix charging sockets to retain charging blocks.

I paid $380 for my one-way ticket from California to Minnesota. The fair did not include online check-in. I received instructions from their app to check in at a kiosk. At the kiosk, the boarding pass would not print until an actual person came to verify that I had a personal item and not a carry-on item, On the plane, the person next to me was drunk and allowed to continue to order alcohol. United is garbage I’d rather fly spirit.

The plane was dirty and the in seat air wasn't blowing as planes usually do.

Generally good but there wasn’t any staff available when my luggage didn’t appear at baggage claim in Fresno. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept.

Do not like the feeling of being in the basic economy. Everyone should feel good no matter what.

All flights were on time and boarding was issue free

Use planes with TVs on flights over 4 hours. The free entertainment was a cheap in between solution for a very long flight that you don't even bother providing meals or decent snacks.

Even though we left CMI late, we mostly made up the time.

Delayed almost 4 hours for a 45 minute flight with no explanation.

Again, multiple delays and I eventually just canceled and drove!

Great crew. Very comfortable business seats with nice bedding. Good food. We were delayed to let late passengers on the flight, but otherwise great experience.

Great crew. We were delayed so that late passengers could get on the flight. Love the bedding in business class. Good food. Great experience.

The CX617 from HK to BKK was delayed more than 1.5 hours.

Horrible - they lied to me about baggage & boarding, even though I specifically spoke to their agents the day before my flight about my issue. When I showed up they did not let me board and stranded me at my airport until I bought a new flight with money I did not have to spend.

I was in business class. There was an excellent headset. But half an hour before arrival they collected them! The rest of the trip I had to use a cheap earphone. There must be a better way to protect the headphones.

All four American Airlines flights I took in last seven days were delayed. Caused me loads of problems, missed meetings, loss of time and money.

For it to have left on time! Instead of two hours early with zero notice

Flight kept delayed from morning to late afternoon so I had to make other arrangements

Crew was nice, explained emergency protocol very well. Flight took off and arrived on time. Pilot explained the small delay that occurred with docking and providing updates. I would definitely fly spirit again.

Terrible… missed our flight due to ridiculously long time to go thru baggage check-in!

The crew was not great or professional. It seemed like they didn't really want to be there. A true lack of effort for accommodating customers.

Everything was really good but the seats are not very comfortable.

I paid for WiFi, but it (WiFi) was very very slow, will never take again! Impossible open Utube 😤😤😤

I had no legroom, although I paid for extra legroom. I could barely put my bag in front of my feet and under the seat. The Wi-Fi was horrible. In fact the flight attendant said that they had to reboot it and see if it was going to work and never did.

The guy with severe body odor sat next to me. For the whole duration of the flight it was a torture. The airline should have better policy on limiting people with bad body odor to board the flight. Passengers should not be the ones to endure bad odor for the whole duration of the flight. The airline should be e the one to ensure decent air quality for ever passenger.

Overall it was a miserable experience... I will never fly spirit for more than a 3 hour flight or overnight.

I checked a bag because it was $5 less than carry on. They managed to lose my bag on a 2.5 hr direct flight! Frontier has no airport staff at baggage claim to help. As soon as I got home around 11 pm I tried to use their online system to file the claim for lost bag - system wouldn't take the # on my baggage claim ticket - said it was not the correct number. Also said that I had not checked a bag, which wasn't true - even my online boarding pass showed that I had checked a bag. Wasted about an hour on that process with no luck. Tried again in the morning - same thing. So tried online chat with Frontier bot - waited 35-40" twice to be connected to a baggage agent and it never happened. Eventually drove to PDX after work and waited 2 hrs for the Frontier ticket agents to arrive prior to the next Frontier flight out of PDX and FINALLY got some help from one of them, to take me to lost luggage area where I was able to retrive my bag. Probably took 4-5 hrs. of my time and endless frustration to get my bag. This was my first -- and LAST -- experience flying Frontier Airlines. Check-in was also extremely difficult and time consuming. The flight itself (and staff) were fine but everything else about the experience was a total disaster! The fact that Frontier literally has NO WAY to connect to a human voice for customer service (in this case for lost luggage) is the WORST!!!!!

Frontier is a crappy airline nothing about it is honest

I didn't get to do this flight l, hard to review

Not good 😐 Over priced baggage fees Small hard seats No wifi or entertainment options 😕

Didn't like anything!! Horrible flight. Small seating area and hard seats. Butt was sore after 2 hour flight to Seattle No entertainment or free refreshments No wifi or USB charging receptacles to charge phone entoute like other airliners Luggage rates were 3 times as much as competitors. Difficult to navigate online luggue process to pre pay before flight Overall bad experience WILL NEVER RIDE OR RECOMMEND FRONTIER TO FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS!!! THIS IS A SHAME!! MOST MESERIBLE FLIGHT OF MY LIFE!! AND I THOUGHT SPIRIT WAS 👎 YOU GOT THEM BEAD HANDS DOWN!!

Flight was a little late taking off. Seats are too upright, no ports to charge devices, no wifi, no entertainment

Six hour delay. Poor customer service. No voucher. Bad communication. Missed important appointments.

Our flight was delayed an hour, then when we got to board our flight finally, we were waiting in our seats for take off for 45 minutes before it was communicated that there was a maintenance issue therefore we waited on the plane for over an hour while that was resolved. We did not get to Phoenix until almost 3 hours after we were originally supposed to. This was the first and last time I will be flying Frontier.

Flight was canceled with little warning. Flight was rebooked through Ontario, California and connecting flight was delayed by over three hours. Frontier is living up to their Greyhound of the skies reputation for sure.

I purchased a carry on bag online…was supposed to cost $72 but after a whole slew of bs charges, the total was over $175.00. Because of these hidden charges, I will not even consider flying Frontier ever again. It’s just not worth the hassle. I’m scratching this company off my list forever.

Everything you’ll need to know to plan a trip to the Yukon.

Map of Air Access to Yukon

Getting Here

Getting to the Yukon is easy with direct flights from several Canadian cities and seasonal service from Frankfurt, Germany. You can also get here by road from British Columbia, Alberta or Alaska, or via the coast, on a cruise or by the Alaska Marine Highway. Once here, exploring the Yukon is a breeze with guided tours, regional air services and RV and car rentals available from Whitehorse.

Staying Connected

We know how important it is for you to stay connected while you’re on the road. The Yukon has cellular/mobile phone coverage in all Yukon communities, and smart phone coverage in Whitehorse and some communities. However, coverage does not extend along Yukon highways or into wilderness areas. You should be prepared for a few hours with no cellphone signal when driving between communities.

Bell Mobility provides High Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular/mobile service in 17 Yukon communities. It also maintains roaming agreements with other major HSPA or CDMA providers in Canada and the U.S., including Telus. This allows for seamless use of Bell Mobility services across most of North America. Telus customers will have similar access to Bell subscribers through the Telus and Bell roaming agreement.

Staying Connected

How to get to the Yukon

Air The Yukon is closer than you think. We have short, regular flights between numerous southern Canadian cities, as well as service to eastern Canada and Europe. The Yukon’s main airport is Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International airport which is just 10 minutes from downtown Whitehorse.

There are from three to five flights per day from Vancouver (varies seasonally) and additional scheduled connections from other cities (see below).

Vancouver → Whitehorse: 2.5 hours

Calgary → Edmonton → Whitehorse: 45 minutes → 2.5 hours

Ottawa → Yellowknife → Whitehorse: 4 hours 45 mins → 1 hour 45 minutes

Toronto → Yellowknife → Whitehorse: 4 hours 45 mins → 1 hour 45 minutes

Kelowna → Whitehorse: 2 hours 20 mins to 4 hours

Victoria → Whitehorse: 2 hours 15 mins to 4 hours

Frankfurt → Whitehorse: 9.5 hours

Road The Yukon is accessible by road from both British Columbia and Alaska. From Vancouver it’s a multi-day drive via either the Stewart Cassiar Highway (Hwy #37) or the Alaska Highway (Hwy#1). From Alaska, access is via the Alaska Highway (Hwy #1), the Haines Road (Hwy #3) or the Top of the World Highway (Hwy #9). One-way rentals are not permitted between the US and Canada.

Sea Although the Yukon is mostly land locked, it’s only two hours from the Alaskan coastal community of Skagway. One of the most scenic ways to arrive in the Yukon is via a coastal journey from Vancouver on a cruise ship, or via the  Alaska Marine Highway  ferry system from either Bellingham, Washington or Port Hardy on Vancouver Island.

Travel Visa Information

Travel Visa Information

Most travellers need either an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to visit Canada depending upon citizenship.

Travellers with passports from eTA-required countries who enter Canada  by air  will need an eTA.

The authorization is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for  five years  or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

Applying for an eTA is done online, costs $7 Canadian and takes just a few minutes.

Most eTA-eligible applicants will get their authorization within minutes of submitting the online form. U.S. citizens do not need an eTA to enter Canada.

For a list of eTA and visa requirements by country please visit the  Government of Canada’s website.

Basic requirements To visit Canada, travellers will need to meet some basic requirements, such as:

  • have a valid travel document, such as a passport,
  • be in good health,
  • have no criminal or immigration-related convictions,
  • convince an immigration officer that they have ties—such as a job, home, financial assets or family—that will take them back to their home country,
  • convince an immigration officer that they will leave Canada at the end of their visit, and
  • have enough money for their stay.

How long can a visitor stay in Canada? Most visitors are allowed a six-month stay from the day they entered Canada, but this will be decided by a border services officer at the port of entry. If the officer authorizes a stay of less than six months, they will indicate in the traveller’s passport the date by which they must leave Canada.

For more detailed information visit the   Government of Canada’s website.

Simplified northern residents travel deduction

For 2023, a range of changes have been made to make it easier for you to claim a northern residents travel deduction and determine a lowest return airfare (LRA).

Airfare table

A new tool, the airfare table , lets you determine the LRA for all eligible airports. The availability of the airfare table is the result of a pilot project launched for the 2022 tax season. Each table published will contain more than 135 airports, almost all of which are operating in the prescribed zones . Eligible airports all offer regularly scheduled flights to a designated city.

You can use the amount you find in the airfare table as part of your calculation for the travel deduction as indicated on Form T2222, Northern Residents Deductions . If you choose to use the table to determine your LRA and claim a travel deduction, you do not have to get a quote or send any documents to support the amount claimed as the LRA. If asked, you can specify that you used the airfare table amount.

If you want to use an amount that is different than an amount given in the airfare table, keep your receipts and any documents to support the amount claimed for the LRA in case the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) wants proof for your claim. If you must fly by charter, you may want to use this method. The cost for charter flights is not part of the airfare amounts found in the lowest return airfare tables.

All airfare tables will contain airfare amounts that represent the lowest level of economy fares that are ordinarily available for the specified period of time. The CRA works with a business travel service provider to identify the airfares for airlines operating in the prescribed zones, using prices for flights between eligible airports and designated cities. To reflect fare adjustments that the airlines make, the CRA will add a new table every April and every October when a new period begins.

How to use the airfare table

The table will help you identify the lowest return airfare that can be used to complete Form T2222 . Follow these steps to determine your LRA using the airfare table:

  • Navigate to this page:  Lowest return airfare table
  • Find and open the table that matches the period of time when travel began for the trip being claimed. For example, if you travelled in November of 2022 , find the table for the period of October 2022 to March 2023 .
  • Locate the airport closest to your residence found within the airfare table.
  • Use the amount associated with that airport as your lowest return airfare and complete column 5 in Chart B of your Form T2222, Northern Residents Deductions .

Flexible reviews of the lowest return airfare

Previously, an individual could only claim the lowest return airfare available on the day of travel. However, the CRA will be more flexible in what it will accept as supporting documents for the LRA quote you provide on your completed Form T2222. The CRA will allow claims for economy return airfare as the LRA quote if you buy tickets and send us the supporting documents if requested.

The economy return airfare is the cost of the standard class of economy return tickets for regularly scheduled, commercial flights for the day a trip began, which includes mandatory taxes, fees and charges such as sales tax, airport improvement fees and the air travellers security charge.

Economy return airfare does not include non-mandatory fees such as baggage fees, flight-cancellation insurance, or prepaid meals.

Allowing quotes before the day of travel

Since many individuals do not buy tickets on the day of their trip, the CRA will now accept an LRA claim that uses the price of an economy return airfare ticket bought before the day of your trip, as long as it is for a ticket for a round-trip between the airport closest to your residence and the nearest designated city.

If you did not fly, or did not fly to the nearest designated city, you can get a quote for flights to the nearest designated city for the day of your travel ahead of time. The CRA will accept the cost of an economy return airfare ticket or a quote for the lowest return airfare for a flight to the nearest designated city scheduled for the day you will be travelling.

How to support your quote for the lowest return airfare

If you choose not to use the airfare tables to determine the LRA, you can support your claim for the LRA with an economy airfare ticket bought before or on the day of the trip, as long as it is for a ticket for a round-trip between the airport closest to your residence and the nearest designated city.

For the duration of the pilot project, the CRA will be flexible in what it will accept as proof of the LRA. Northern residents will be allowed to use the information provided by certain airlines as supporting documents.

Before or on the day of travel, you can also support your claim with a print or screenshot taken of the economy flights that are available for the day of the trip. This document should show that the amount submitted as the LRA quote was the lowest airfare amount offered between the closest airport to your residence and the nearest designated city.

If there are multiple economy return airfares available on that day with different airlines, you may be required to submit a print or screenshot showing that your LRA was the lowest economy airfare available.

In the example below there are multiple results available for a round trip flight from Yellowknife to Edmonton. In this case the LRA would be $716:

Yellowknife to Edmonton

  • No. of persons : 1
  • Class : Economy
  • Date departure : Sunday, July 10
  • Date return : Saturday, July 23

If there is only one economy return flight available on your travel day, then you may have to submit a print or screenshot to support your claim.

Here is an example where there is one result for a round-trip flight from Arctic Bay to Ottawa.

The LRA would be $3,286:

Arctic Bay to Ottawa

  • Date departure : Sunday, July 11
  • Date return : Saturday, July 26

Submitting a lowest return airfare from charters and remote communities

Do you live in a remote community in which there are no scheduled commercial flights or the only way to travel to and from the community is by charter flight? To calculate your LRA you can use quotes or costs for round-trip charter flights to the nearest airport that has scheduled commercial flights to the nearest designated city. You can then add this amount with the amount listed in the airfare tables for that airport.

Costs for charter flights will not be accepted as part of the LRA when it is possible for individuals to drive to the nearest airport that has scheduled commercial flights to the nearest designated city. This will be the case unless the drive to the nearest airport is not reasonable based on the circumstances.

Only the amount paid to take a charter flight will be accepted as part of a trip expense.

A backcountry camper takes in the spectacular view at Tombstone Territorial Park

Fun, fresh air and a whole lot s’more

People who like camping, love camping in the Yukon. Pull off the highway into one of the dozens of government-operated campgrounds found throughout the Yukon. Some parts of the territory also have private RV parks and a few full-service campgrounds that offer everything from cold ice cream to hot showers. But that’s as close to glamping as Yukon camping gets—most wouldn’t have it any other way.

Wherever you choose to stay, you’ll find nature nearby, sometimes right outside your tent flap. At some sites, the sound of waves lapping a lakeshore might lull you to sleep. Set your alarm to “off” and wake to the sound of songbirds.

Some campgrounds have boat launches, swimming areas and small playgrounds, and most have trails for exploring the natural surroundings. Keep your camera handy and check out the various plants and wildlife. With lots to do and see, and plenty of ways to relax, it’s easy to be a happy camper here.
