“There is something about flying down narrow alleys of mangrove trees that is just a rush. I could never get tired of it. The guides always give more than just a ride. You learn so much about the Everglades and the total ecosystem that it is. We most certainly will be back!

—C. from Florida

“The mangrove tour was so much fun! We saw a family of dolphins swimming along the boat, several alligators, and a few fish jumping out of the water. Riding through the mangroves was beautiful and a fun way to see the Everglades. I would recommend to anyone.”

—J. from Massachusetts

“We really enjoyed seeing the alligators. The captain of the airboat gave a lot of information about the Everglades and habitat. The addition of the two-way headsets let us all communicate during the tour. This was really a highlight of having friends down visiting us new Florida residents. Plan to bring other guests."

—K. from Florida

“We did the combo package and it was amazing! Great way to experience all 3 ways to 'see' the Everglades! Would highly recommend. All the captains for each segment were fantastic! Had a great time!"

South Florida’s oldest alligator farm, the Everglades Alligator Farm, is located near the entrance of Everglades National Park and contains more than 2,000 alligators.

A trip to the Everglades Alligator Farm includes an exciting airboat tour, an alligator show, and an alligator feeding demonstration! If you are headed to Key Largo or Key West, this is an attraction you absolutely won’t want to miss.

I went here today with my husband and paid about $60 for both of us, and that is already including airboat show in the package which I highly recommend. This is a great spot to check out when in South Florida. We spent about three hours in the place. Staffs are friendly and shows were very entertaining.

A quick adventure, not too long but enough to get a feel for the land. We loved the 360 turns, even got soaked (or a little wet) depending on where you sit. You can feed an Emu, see the anaconda and fun gift shop too. We loved the baby alligator pen and holding a baby alligator was unforgettable! The alligator feeding and alligator show was great, the gentleman who hosted was even better. Very friendly, patient with kids and informative/educational.

We had a lot of fun here, the animals look like they are taken good care of and Liz was great, she did all the shows on this day (gator, snakes, feeding) and we thought she did an amazing job! The airboat tour was also great, it’s loud but you get ear protection and we saw gators!

As an animal lover, this was just about the best part of our 5 day trip here. I loved the great info from both shows and got to hold a baby alligator too! Over 250 alligators to see of all sizes. If you cant decide whether to add the boat ride, think no more, add it. Very fun, safe and once in a lifetime experience. All so affordable.

Highly recommend visiting this place. It was one of the best experience on our holiday. We booked an animal experience tour which was great, we all loved it and many thanks to our great guide! He was so nice and knowledgeable and made the tour really enjoyable for the kids too. Thank you!

I hadn't had high expectations because the price was lower than other options I had looked into. Tyler was engaging and informative for the alligator feeding and show. Jose was a great tour guide on the fan boat through the everglades. There is a reptile exhibit among other animals to view included with the general admission. My two young kids had a great time as well. It's couple and kid-friendly!

Not just a roadside attraction - but also very educational. The folks who gave the talks where very informative about the reptiles and conservation starts with education. The airboat ride was very fun and VERY wet - too short though. Spent about 3 hours there.

They keep adding to it and it's grown substantially since my last visit. Well worth the admission fee of $27.00 USD which does not include the swamp bait ride. I think it was $32.00 all inclusive. This place does a great job through it's alligator feeding and taming exhibitions. In addition to alligators, they have crocodiles, bobcats, parakeets, large turtles, a snake exhibit, and much more. On this trip, there was no snake show with used to be part of the schedule. I'm not sure if it was discontinued or just not available on the day we went. You are free to bring in your own food and enjoy a nice picnic at one of their many picnic tables. Your entire experience takes about three hours. It's quite educational and I highly recommend it.

You can do the whole thing (feeding demo, airboat ride, show) in around two hours. They have over 400 alligators and a variety of other animals on exhibit. There are several enclosures with baby alligators. The airboat ride is 20 minutes of fun if you get the right guide. Ours was awesome. You actually learn a lot that you may not know about gators.

First trip to Florida and this was one of my things to go too. Awesome place for Swap Tours. Great people at the front office with a smile as you walk in. Captain Jim is the man. Very likable and great personality! We got to see an 8’ alligator which was pretty cool. Great job guys!

This was an absolutely great airboat tour. AJ was our guide, who was informative and humorous too! I had a keen interest in birding and he pointed out about 10+ species of birds including 4 bald eagles. We saw about 5-10 alligators during our visit. Would visit again & highly recommend!

Wild Willys was a great Airboat ride through the marshes. Saw several gators and lots of wildlife. The guide was knowledgable about the area and very friendly. The people inside were also very friendly and knowledgable. Definitely recommend.

The one-hour airboat ride was perfect. We saw a variety of wildlife. The speed of the boat (what I really came for) was good, some fast times, some slow times. I chose the 9am time to avoid the sun and heat, and that was perfect too. I highly recommend Wild Willy's.

Voted "Best" Tour For Central Florida In Orlando Airboat Reviews !

Our ninety-minute ride was everything we had hoped it would been, and it was made even more enjoyable by my comfy bucket seat in the front row (and a carabiner to secure my bag). Captain Wayde was friendly to us guests and, even more importantly to me, respectful of the animal life we encountered. I think that a Marsh Landing Adventures airboat ride is an excellent way to leave one’s everyday world behind and get immersed in Central Florida nature.

Had a fantastic 1hr ride out with Capt Scott what a charmer very funny and knows his stuff for sure, had a wonderful exhilarating ride out into the swamps even had a beer at no charge if you are there in the area its a well worth trip.

We had a boat tour with Captain Chris and honestly if I had the time this holiday I would go again! It was amazing! The marsh was picturesque and full of wildlife. We were even lucky enough to see a few alligators! Our Captain was great ; very friendly and informative! An absolute 10/10.

We had a wonderful airboat ride tour. We saw a lot of alligators, learned some history and experienced all the capabilities of the air boat on land on water and through grass. We saw the awesome alligator infested bald Cedarwoods, Infested with alligators just like in the eerie movies. Chelsea was a great hostess, and a wonderful airboat operator. I highly recommend this tour. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Orlando area.

What a thrilling adventure !! We saw many large gators, beautiful birds and breathtaking scenery. Chelsea answered our calls and responded back promptly. She made it such a fun trip and stopped a few times to explain the history of the area and the animals. Would definitely highly recommend this trip to everyone. I can check that off my bucket list. Awesome!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our first airboat ride. Chelsea was a great guide, she gave us a lot of background information and pointed out lots of gators, and showed us a gator nursery that she had been watching herself, we were able to see lots of baby gators. If we spotted a gator, she would turn the boat around and try to catch them again for us. We had such a great time, that we will be back.

Meet your captain.

Kevin was born and raised on Lake Kissimmee. After graduating from college, he came home to run the family business and started giving awesome airboat rides on Lake Kissimmee . For over 20 years, he has shared his love and knowledge of the lake with his riders!

Kevin’s knowledge of the Lake, and wildlife make it up close and personal.
Barrett has an amazing knack of knowing where to find the gators, knowledge of all the birds, snakes, fishes and history of the area.

How long does the airboat ride last?

Are the airboats really loud, what should we bring with us, what days do you run airboat tours, where are our nature tours located, when’s the best time to see gators on the tours, who leads our central florida nature tours.

Our USCG Captains lead each and every nature tour at Grape Hammock. Captain Kevin and Captain Barrett, Florida natives and locals to the area, have experience, education, and training that helps them provide the most unique airboat experience to everyone on board.

What else do you need to know about the tours?

Tour Length: Our airboat nature tours run roughly one hour, giving you more than enough time to cruise through the Glades and get to know the local land. Tour Noise: To block out noise from the airboat engine and make it easier to communicate on the tour, we supply microphone headsets to every person on board.

Tour Gear: Wear whatever is most comfortable for you on the ride. We recommend bringing along some extra sun protection, a lightweight jacket, and a camera.

Tour Dates: You can hop on a tour any day during the season. And during the rest of the year. Tours are available six days a week.

Best Alligator Tours Orlando

I know how amazing an experience it is getting to see alligators in the wild, it’s incredible. But you want to take a good tour. Nothing is worse than taking a tour that leaves you with a bad experience- it can completely ruin a whole day. This list only features the best of the best alligator tours in Orlando that I have taken myself and I can assure you that they will live up to the hype.

1. Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch

A picture of an alligator with its head just above the water during an alligator tour fro Orlando.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (1700+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 0.5-1 hour | 🐊 BOOK NOW

The highest-rated and most popular alligator tour Orlando is the Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch which has an extremely impressive 1700+ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews.

Review which says "The captain was awesome and informative. It was great spotting baby alligators and a couple big ones. Loved seeing all the birds and different flowers that grew wild. Definitely a must see, will be back myself. The pulled pork was fabulous and enjoyed the animals park and safari as well."

When taking a tour, no matter what tour it is or where in the world it is, I always like to go with the tried and tested option. No one wants to book a tour that hasn’t got any reviews, right? This tour has more than passed the test of time. You don’t get a 5/5 rating after nearly 2000 reviews by chance – this tour is top quality.

Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch is the first alligator tour I took in Orlando, and I’ve re-visited on multiple occasions I enjoyed it so much.

The tour is an airboat tour, which is a type of boat that glides over the water rather than through the water thanks to the huge fan on the back. I’m not too sure how else to explain it.

It’s through the Everglades and leaves you with lots of opportunities to see wild alligators. From my experience, this tour features the highest density of alligators. One time on a 30-minute tour, I saw 6 or 7 gators, maybe even more. That’s so many!

Speaking of the length of the tour, you have the option of a 30-minute or a 60-minute tour. I would recommend the full-hour tour, because the longer you have exploring the Everglades looking for gators, the better.

Getting to see alligators in the wild is a memorable experience and one that not everyone gets to experience.

If you buy this tour, entry to Wild Florida’s gator park is also included. It’s my favourite animal park in Florida, beating Busch Gardens and Gator World. There’s so much on offer. From the drive-thru safari to the personal animal encounters, you’re guaranteed a great time at the park after you’ve taken your alligator airboat tour. There are also alligator shows and the option to feed some gators. It’s not to be missed!

Wild Florida is approximately 40 minutes or so from Orlando, but it’s more than worth the drive. You will find that it’s not really possible to take an alligator tour in the heart of Orlando because it’s a city. Instead, the Everglades is where most tours take place.

I genuinely can’t recommend this tour, and Wild Florida enough. If you’re looking for the best alligator tour in Orlando, you’ve found it. It’s Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch .

2. 90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida

A picture of an alligator lurking in the water

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (750+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 1.5 hours | 🐊 BOOK NOW

If you are looking for a longer Orlando alligator tour, then 90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida is the tour for you.

alligator tours florida

This is the longest tour in this article , lasting a whopping 90 minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes). Taking a tour this long provides you with the opportunity to see so many wild alligators.

Seeing the fascinating creatures in the wild is a completely different experience to seeing alligators in captivity. It’s much more natural and feels more rewarding too. Nothing beats the feeling of spotting an alligator for yourself- especially if you manage to spot one before your tour guide!

90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida is also incredibly high-rated, with a rating of 5 out of 5 after over 750 reviews. Just like the last tour, it’s more than passed the test of time. Seeing such a high rating from previous travellers should be enough assurance that this is a good tour.

Aside from seeing the wild alligators, the feeling of riding an airboat is also exhilarating. The thrill of gliding over the water with the wind blowing in your face and the gorgeous Floridian sun shining down is amazing. I’d still take an airboat ride in a boring lake with no alligators!

But honestly, this tour is great too. The offer to see gators in their natural habitat is one not to be missed out on. And taking an airboat tour is the best way to do so. The guides’ commentary is both entertaining and educational with lots of things to learn about, and they will point out any alligators they spot so you don’t miss any.

To have the most time exploring the Everglades and searching for wild alligators, book the 90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida which is the longest tour on this list.

3. Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options

A picture of an alligator in the swaps of the Everglades during an Orlando alligator tour.

⭐ RATING: 4.7 out of 5 Stars (300+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 0.5-1 hour | 🐊 BOOK NOW

Another solid alligator tour in Orlando option is the Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options which still has a very impressive rating of 4.7/5. The quality across the board of all of these Everglades airboat tours is excellent.

Review which says "The boat ride was really fun. The guide was courteous and informative. We saw gators and several types of birds on our tour. The lunch was good and our two grandsons enjoyed the gem mining activity. We all enjoyed the butterfly enclosure. The butterflies were beautiful and we enjoyed them sitting on our finger eating nectar. It was a fun and low key afternoon well worth the entry price."

As the name suggests, Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options offers lots of different tour options and add-ons. Firstly, you can choose from a 30-minute or a 60-minute tour. Again, I recommend the longer option.

But you can also pay for a private tour. It’s the most exclusive way of exploring the Everglades and allows for a more personal and luxurious experience. Note that normal airboat rides include up to 15 people usually.

Some tours include lunch, and other options include a sunset tour and a night tour. These are such unique opportunities and an entirely different tour from during the day. The sunset tour is pretty much just the same as the day tour but with a nice scenic sunset during the swamp tours.

But the night tour is where things start to get spicy. Alligators are nocturnal, meaning they are awake during the night. Taking an airboat ride at night allows you to see even more gators than during the day. It’s also quite exciting riding through alligator-infested waters at night when you can’t see much. It’s a true adventure. But seeing the alligators with the shine of a torch is a special feeling.

You can also opt for tours which include access to the rest of Boggy Creek, a lesser-known park, but one that I would consider underrated. There’s a butterfly garden, a Native American village, a fossil and gem mine and more. Some tours include mining for gems which is super fun for kids!

If you’re looking for an alligator tour in Orlando that offers a little bit more, then Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options is the best choice for you.

4. Central Florida Everglades Airboat Tour from Orlando

A picture of an alligator swimming in open water in the Everglades

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (125+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5 hours | 🐊 BOOK NOW

If you want a hassle-free alligator tour from Orlando that picks you up from the city and drops you off afterwards, take a look at the Central Florida Everglades Airboat Tour from Orlando .

Review which says "It was incredible! Definitely would do it again! Saw so many amazing animals in the wild! The air boat was so much fun and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable!"

This tour offers pick-ups from Orlando, Disney and Kissimmee and takes you to the Everglades for your airboat tour and wild gator spotting. Then, afterwards, it drops you right back to where it picked you up. It’s super convenient and avoids all the hassle of making it to the Everglades yourself.

Depending on the day, it will either take you to Wild Florida, or to Boggy Creek , meaning you get to experience all of the amazing things listed above. Note that the 5-hour tour length begins when you are picked up and ends when you are dropped off, it is not the length of the actual airboat tour.

You can choose to book either a half-hour or full-hour airboat tour.

During an airboat ride, as well as being able to spot alligators lurking in the swampy waters, there’s an opportunity to see lots of other incredible wildlife. I’ve been lucky enough to see a bald eagle on a few occasions…it was unreal. Seeing an animal in the wild with such huge symbolic meaning and what the animal represents was special, even for someone like me who isn’t American.

Another common spotting is turtles , which are also pretty fun to see in the wild. As well as so many different species of birds, and lots of other fascinating wildlife. If you love animals, you will love an airboat tour.

Believe it or not, some people actually don’t know there are alligators in Orlando. They’re everywhere in Florida! People also don’t know very often that they’re in Tampa too.

But there’s no better place to see them than in the Everglades!

For an alligator tour from Orlando that brings you to and from the Everglades, definitely book the Central Florida Everglades Airboat Tour from Orlando .

5. Orlando: Wild Florida Everglades Airboat & Wildlife Park

A picture of an alligator swimming during an everglades airboat tour

⭐ RATING: 4.7 out of 5 Stars (335+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 0.5-1 hour | 🐊 BOOK NOW

Last but by no means least of these alligator tours Orlando is Orlando: Wild Florida Everglades Airboat & Wildlife Park . And it really is a case of “last but not least”, with over 300 reviews averaging at 4.7/5 stars.

Review which says "Great Day Out - Easy uber ride from Orlando and took around 30 minutes. The staff were helpful and friendly. We saw lots of wildlife and had fun on the airboat. We saw lots of Alligators as well as amazing bird life including Eagles. Our guide was informative and we felt safe the entire time."

Once again, this airboat tour brings you to Wild Florida. By the way, Wild Florida is worth visiting on its own. As I said, it’s my favourite animal park in Florida, and I like it so much that I actually wrote a full post on a Wild Florida review if you would like more information.

But as much as I love the park itself, it would be a shame to visit without taking an airboat ride, but I imagine that’s what you’re on this article for anyway.

Wild Florida’s airboat tours all but guarantee that you will see wild gators. They have over 4,200 acres of, and I quote, “beautiful lush scenery, including protected swamps, marshes and rivers, at the heart of the Central Florida Everglades”.

This could not be more true. What’s so good about the airboat rides, is that on top of seeing American Alligators in their natural habitats, aside from all of the other wildlife and the thrill of an airboat ride, is that the landscape is incredible.

Florida’s Everglades offer some of the most amazing natural beauty I’ve ever seen. Admiring the greenery around me while travelling at speed gliding over the water through tall reed grass, lily pads and water flowers, surrounded by tall trees is one of my favourite memories from the airboat tours I have taken.

For an unforgettable tour, and the time of your life, book the Orlando: Wild Florida Everglades Airboat & Wildlife Park .

The Allure of Our Gator Park

The uniqueness of the florida everglades.

The ecosystem of the Florida Everglades is a vast, slow-moving wetland, the likes of which you can’t find anywhere else in the world. The lands stretch over a million acres and provide many natural resources, such as diverse habitats for endangered species, sources of fresh water, and more.

Importance of Alligators in the Everglades Ecosystem

The Everglades are important for many reasons. One of these reasons is that the Everglades are home to a very famous creature: the American alligator. This iconic symbol of Florida plays a pivotal role in maintaining the ecosystem’s health. They shape the landscape by creating “gator holes” that become homes for other species. Not only are they beautiful and powerful, Alligators also help control the pray population.

Brief History of Everglades Holiday Park’s Gator Park

Over the years, our park has grown from our humble beginnings and become a premier destination for seeing alligators and understanding the complicated ecosystem. We have a strong history of conservation and education that we take pride in. Ever visitor to our park leaves having learned much and experienced something unlike anything else.

Touring/Riding/Exploring the Everglades

Airboats are a unique means of transportation that allow you  to go almost anywhere in the Everglades  by riding over mud, water, grass, and shallow trails. They are firm and propelled by a large gasoline engine and propeller.

Airboats usually draw only inches or less of a draft as they slide along mud and water. However, they do have their limits and not uniquely made for going long distances on hard ground.

As you make your way into the heart of the  Everglades you will see how the grass, water, and landscapes can change. Book your Fort Lauderdale alligator tour today.

Think you know everything about alligators? Check your knowledge here, Florida

Portrait of Lillian Lawson

The American Alligator is the official state reptile of Florida. Some residents fear them, and many residents love them. After all, they are the mascot of our beloved, local, Florida Gators. Here are some facts about alligators locally and across the state that you may not have known.

Just how many alligators are there in Florida?

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says there are  about 1.3 million  alligators living throughout the state's 67 counties.

From earlier this year: Viral video shows 10-foot alligator on Florida golf course just ahead of mating season

Is there reason to fear alligators?

According to a report from the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences UF/IFAS in May, no. That is, as long as you leave them alone.

“The reasons to fear alligators are unfounded, as they are not aggressive beasts, although as large predators they should be respected,” Frank Mazzotti, professor of wildlife ecology at  UF/IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center  (FLREC), wrote in the report .

As the USA TODAY NETWORK-Florida has reported, over the past 10 years, the FWC confirmed that  Florida has averaged eight unprovoked alligator bites per year  that are serious enough to require professional medical treatment.

Actually, the report says that alligators play a crucial role in the ecosystem particularly in the Everglades' ecology.

More: UF/IFAS shares insights on why it's great to be a Florida gator

How are alligators helping the Everglades?

UF/IFAS experts said that alligators have been chosen as one of the species to be used to evaluate restoration progress. This means that healthy restoration in the Everglades should result in fatter alligators and increased alligator populations.

Additionally, alligators are top predators that depend on the density of aquatic and semi-aquatic organisms, provide habitats for various plants and animals, and indicate a need for natural freshwater flow.

Were alligators ever endangered?

Yes. Alligators were once hunted to the point of extinction for their hides and have made a comeback, in part, because of protection under the  Endangered Species Act  and through commercialization for their hides and meat.

When can you hunt alligators?

Florida has strict rules when it comes to  alligator hunting . A person can receive a maximum of two Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) tags, which allows them to harvest one alligator per tag. The FWC says alligators can be harvested during certain periods between Aug. 15 and Nov. 1.

A unique heart

The FWC says alligators and crocodilians are unique from other reptiles because of their 4-chambered hearts, similar to those of mammals and birds. Most reptiles have 3-chambered hearts.

A 4-chambered heart allows oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood to be separated, which results in more efficient respiration needed for the high metabolism of warm-blooded animals. However, Crocodilians have evolved a shunt between the left and right aorta (immediately above the ventricles) to facilitate the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.

Some scientists have hypothesized, according to the FWC , that their complex heart structure may indicate they evolved from warm-blooded ancestors.

Many alligator nests don't survive

The FWC says that about one-third of alligator nests are destroyed by predators (mostly raccoons) or flooding. For nests that survive, an estimated 24 live hatchlings will emerge and only 10 alligator hatchlings will live to one year.

The average clutch size (number of eggs) of a nest is 38, the FWC says.

More gators: This Florida lake could be home to 30,000 alligators. Here are lakes with highest gator counts

Which local lake ranks No. 2 in Florida for number of gators?

Orange Lake, which the  FWC says is the  largest  lake in the region. It spans both Alachua and Marion counties, ranking second in Florida in terms of number of alligators, with its 12.550 acres containing approximately 2,732 alligators, according to  the A-Z Animals Blog .

More gators: Lake between Ocala/Gainesville is No. 2 in Florida for number of gators. Which is No. 1?

Which lake is No. 1 in Florida?

According to a USA TODAY NETWORK-Florida  report,  the No. 1 lake for alligators in Florida is  Lake Okeechobee . It is Florida’s largest freshwater lake and borders five counties. It has 9,308 counted alligators and an estimated population of about 30,000.

Any honorable mentions?

Lake George , in Volusia County, ranks third with 2,660 alligators;  Lake Jesup , in Seminole County, ranks fourth with 2,414 alligators and an estimated population around 13,000; and  Lake Kissimmee , in Osceola and Polk Counties, ranks fifth with 2,065 alligators.

Where else can alligators be found?

Alligators are located from southeast Oklahoma and east Texas on the western side of their range to North Carolina and Florida in the east. The FWC says while they prefer fresh water lakes and slow-moving rivers and their associated wetlands, alligators also can be found in brackish water habitats.

Orlando Airboat Rides

One of the things Florida is most known for is its famous airboat tours. Sign up for this fun adventure whether you’re in Fort Lauderdale or Miami, within Everglades National Park, or Orlando on Shingle Creek, on the headwaters of the Florida Everglades.

You won’t soon forget an exciting airboat ride when you visit the Orlando area, with a chance to see Bald Eagles and other endemic tropical birds, alligators, and crocodiles (maybe even a baby alligator).

Airboat rides are particularly popular amongst nature lovers. These special boats allow you to glide on the unique marshes and swampland of the Central Florida area. We thoroughly enjoyed our Florida airboat experience.

Sign up for a 90-minute fun and educational Orlando airboat tour to encounter the real Florida with experienced captains. Alternatively, secure your spot for a 1-hour sunset airboat tour and hope for one of Florida’s famous colorful sunsets.

Most airboat tours take place rain or shine. Just in case, we recommend traveling to Florida with a poncho or thin raincoat of some sort. Be sure to check in for your tour at least 30 minutes before the experience.

Orlando Boat Tour on an Airboat with Transportation

This tour includes pick up and drop off in Central Florida (including designated Disney World and Universal hotels), a BBQ lunch, a printed photo, and admission to their animal rescue Wildlife Park, where you can see birds, big cats, and reptiles.

The entire experience – from transportation to the boat ride – lasts around 7 hours, including the drive to and from the Everglades area. The Florida Everglades are approximately 45 minutes to an hour's drive each way from Orlando. Choose from a 30-minute or 60-minute airboat ride when you book your experience .

Orlando Sailing Tours

How about enjoying Orlando’s lakes with wind power? Sailing tours are the perfect way to glide on the water. And a sunset sail is incredibly romantic, to boot!

Private Morning Sail

Set sail on a 2-hour private sailing tour, starting at 10:00 am. Adventure awaits on Lake Fairview for up to four guests.

This area is just north of College Park near downtown Orlando and 15 minutes from Orlando’s Lieu Gardens. Don’t forget to bring towels if you want, though water is provided (and lakes are calm anyway, so you shouldn’t really get wet!).

Advanced reservations are required.

Private Lake Sunset Sail

Sail on Lake Fairview, approximately 10 minutes from downtown Orlando, 30-35 minutes from the Disney theme parks (including the Disney Springs area), and 25 minutes from Universal.

This 2-hour private Orlando boat tour can fit up to four people, and they allow you to bring your own snacks and beverages onboard. We recommend bringing a bottle of wine or champagne!

We recommend bringing along a wine tumbler set for your sailboat adventure!

Kayaking Tours

Connect with nature from the comfort of a kayak and get in some exercise too. Orlando boat tour options for kayaking are plentiful.

Kayak with Manatees

Head 45 minutes north of Orlando for your chance to kayak with manatees! These cute and friendly mammals are famous in the Sunshine State, where they come to enjoy the warm water for the winter.

Whether you’re a novice kayaking trying it for the first time, or an experienced pro, this tour is for you if you want to see a plethora of wildlife.

Check out this popular tour with 5-star reviews

Glass Bottom Boat Kayak Tours

If you want to see the fish below the water’s surface without snorkeling, sign up for a glass-bottom kayak tour. See through the bottom of the boat on this Orlando boat tour and have the chance to view the colorful fish and marine plant life beneath you.

Try a Rock Springs guided kayak eco-tour as you glide on the crystal-clear water for two hours. You’ll learn about the local ecosystem, stop for photos, and have the opportunity to swim in the springs. Opt to jump into the water from a rope swing for a thrill during this adventure.

You can also opt for a sunset tour in a glass-bottom kayak . Paddle through the Winter Park Chain of Lakes and canals in a peaceful setting. Your knowledgeable guide will point out interesting nature homes along the way and share some history of the area. You’ll also be able to stop for photos where you like!

This tour is likely to sell out: Reserve Now

Winter Park Evening Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour

If you want to add a fun element to your kayaking adventure, sign up for a Winter Park kayak tour at night with a glow-in-the-dark kayak. The boats are illuminated with nighttime lighting!

They will surely be a good photo opp and fun outing as the lights make the water beneath you glow.

Another great option is this Neon Night Glow Paddleboard or Clear Kayak experience on Lake Ivanhoe.

This unique boat tour allows you to see Orlando’s skyline at night as you paddle along with the help of your guides, the moonlight, and the colorful lights beneath your kayak or paddleboard.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

One of our favorite Orlando boat tours is in Winter Park. It was established in the 1930s, decades before Walt Disney World opened in Lake Buena Vista.

This pontoon boat tour starts near the well-known Park Avenue area. Set out on your scenic cruise from Lake Osceola to the Winter Park Chain of Lakes as your guide takes you through the manmade canals.

Sail past stunning homes in Winter Park, where you will have breathtaking views of the opulent private homes in the area (which is one of the reasons we enjoy the boat tour).

You will have a chance to see wonderful some of Florida’s beautiful birds, like Blue Herons and large cranes, as you travel on several lakes.

Each boat holds a maximum of 18 passengers. Be sure to bring cash or a check to buy your tickets because credit cards are not accepted. We advise purchasing tickets in the morning on weekends, even if you plan on going later in the day. It’s a very popular tour, and tickets often sell out quickly.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour is closed on Christmas Day. Otherwise, tours leave daily on the hour, starting at 10:00 am. The last tour is at 4:00 pm.

Day Trip Boat Tours from Orlando

While the Orlando boat tours listed above are within 30 minutes, on average, from Orlando, it’s worth mentioning there are more boat tour options nearby within a 2-hour drive. Here are some additional Central Florida boat tour options.

Mount Dora Lake Tours

One of our favorite destinations from Central Florida is 45 minutes north: the quaint town of Mount Dora . There’s so much to see and do there in the afternoon or morning; a boat tour is the best way to extend your trip to a whole day.

Take a 2-hour pontoon boat tour with a departure point at the historic hotel, the Lakeside Inn. Enjoy your leisurely cruise around Lake Dora and The Harris Chain of Lakes, including the famed Dora Canal.

The all-weather 25’ boats can cruise rain or shine thanks to their retractable clear covers for the sides of the boat. Choose from one of two daytime tours, or their third option to cruise during sunset.

Clearwater Beach with Dolphin Encounter Cruise

This 12-hour full-day tour begins with pick-up at 7:30 am. You’ll head west of Orlando to the popular Florida destination (Clearwater Beach), where you will take a cruise to encounter bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat.

While this means that you aren’t guaranteed to spot dolphins, your tour guide will do his or her very best to find them. You may see these beautiful mammals up close by the boat or further in the distance if they appear in the ocean. Part of the fun is the anticipation.

A one-hour dolphin tour boat ride is sandwiched between hours of free time on a Gulf Coast beach. For only $10 more, you can purchase a wristband for the boat ride that allows you to have unlimited beer, wine, and vodka punch.

Pickup and drop off are included at one of three major locations of your choice (Disney areas included). This means that all you have to do is sign up for the tour and be at that location for pick-up time.

Choose from the three pick-up locations listed below:

  • Walt Disney World area, on Epcot Resorts Blvd. (northern area of the parks)
  • Walt Disney World area, at Maingate Lakeside Resort in Kissimmee (area of the Disney World theme parks that is further south)
  • International Drive (close to Universal) at Senor Frogs

Clear Canoe Boat Tour Near Orlando at Silver Springs

This clear canoe boat tour is approximately halfway between Orlando and Gainesville at Silver Springs. The drive is approximately an hour and 45 minutes from downtown Orlando.

You’ll do a self-guided tour after the kayak company representative meets you and gives you a laminated map and some brief instructions. Paddle near Cypress Trees and see turtles, ducks, birds, and a chance to see manatees during the winter season, when they swim to Florida’s warm waters.

Dan and I often like to explore an area freely, on our own. Maybe you’re the same way! If so, this is a great tour for you in the Orlando area, as long as you can rent a car to get to the meeting point or take a taxi/Uber or Lyft there.

Orlando Boat Tours at Walt Disney World

Did you know that you can rent motorized boats at Disney World? It’s one of the best things to do at Walt Disney World, besides the parks.

Rent a Sun Tracker® Pontoon boat by the half-hour for up to 10 people. You can also opt to kayak or canoe from Fort Wilderness by the hour.

One of the most singular boat tours in Orlando, or perhaps anywhere, is an Amphicar boat tour. Be a passenger and the envy of all onlookers in a cool convertible car that drives right into the water. This experience is available at Disney Springs restaurant, The Boathouse.

Lastly, you can book a specialty cruise to see the fireworks. You don’t even have to be a hotel guest to do so! Snacks and soft drinks are included in a memorable cruise on a 25’ boat.

You can also request for a festive banner and/or balloons to be set up on the boat, which is included in the cost (request at the time of booking). It’s a great thing to do for you and your partner or up to 10 guests total, whether a proposal, anniversary treat, or family reunion.

What to Bring for Orlando Boat Tours

Florida's heat can be brutal, depending on the time of year. No matter the month, you definitely need to protect your skin from the sun. The sun in FL is strong, year-round.

Be sure to pack the following if you’ll be on the water in sunny Florida:

  • Refillable water bottle (the ice will stay intact for hours in the MiiR bottle, our favorite insulated wide-mouth bottle)
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • SPF lip balm
  • Eco-friendly bathing suit
  • Rash guard

Conclusion for Best Orlando Boat Tours

Whether you want to captain a boat yourself, row your way through Florida’s waters in a kayak, see gators on an educational airboat ride, or go on a romantic sailboat cruise around one of Central Florida’s lakes, an Orlando boat is a wonderful Florida activity.

It will connect you with nature, get you out in fresh air, and allow your body to absorb vitamin D in the Florida sunshine. Sign up for an Orlando boat tour and explore this southern state in a unique and adventurous way.

Orlando boat tours are a fantastic activity in Central Florida, no matter the type of boating adventure you choose. Some of the suggestions below are full-day tours, and others take mere hours. Woman attacked by alligator, 'I just screamed and I pried as hard as I could'

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (WFTS) - A Florida woman survived being attacked by an alligator.

Rachel Thompson needs to stay off of her feet and relies on crutches to walk as she recovers from emergency surgery.

“Earlier this month, I’ve heard a lot of these stories and I’ve heard a lot of tragic stories, lost lives of lost limbs,” she said.

Thompson lives near the Hillsborough River.

On July 4, just after 7 a.m., she finished a run and went into her backyard for a dip in the river.

“And I’m basically standing in shallow water and I look from the dark water out of nowhere appear the ripples of a giant alligator head,” she said.

The gator attacked her, biting her leg.

Thompson remembers punching it in its snout, eventually getting away and pulling herself up onto a dock.

“The thought came to my mind, ‘This is your last move and the next his next is to roll you.’ And I just screamed and I pried as hard as I could,” she said.

A licensed trapper removed the alligator from the river and it was later euthanized.

It weighed more than 400 pounds and measured 10 feet 8 inches long.

Thompson needed emergency surgery and spent three nights in the hospital.

“None of the major nerves were severed. One clean fracture to the fibula the small bone,” she said.

Florida Wildlife officials said serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida.

Gators are most active between dusk and dawn.

Wildlife officials urge people to never feed an alligator. It is not just dangerous, but also illegal.

Thompson said doctors expect her to make a full recovery.

UF Solar Gators gear up to defend championship title at Formula Sun Grand Prix

Student-built solar car prepares to qualify for american solar challenge.

The Solar Gators stand next to their car, “Sunrider”, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Sunrider, UF’s solar race car, is hoping to mark its final lap around the track with a second Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) national championship title.

The car, built by engineering design team Solar Gators, basked in the spotlight Wednesday evening at a send-off event before it heads to the FSGP and American Solar Challenge this week.

This year’s FSGP runs from July 16 through July 18. Entered cars start with a

completely charged battery pack and rely on solar power for the remainder of the race.

Sunrider, which looks like a futuristic go-kart with a sleek, orange body covered in 267 solar panels, was built from scratch by the student-run organization and made its racing debut in 2022. It has now made two appearances at the FSGP, a three-day endurance event on a three-mile closed, road-style track.

Teams compete for the most miles over three days with the hopes of qualifying for the American Solar Challenge (ASC), a seven-day, 1,533-mile cross-country endurance tour held every two years. Teams must drive 205 miles in one day or 308 miles in two days during the FSGP to qualify.

Solar Gators Vice President Isabella Lucarelli, a 20-year-old electrical engineering junior, said the races are about the effective use of solar technology more than anything else.

“Everything kind of just boils down to our solar array and the efficiencies of every other aspect of our car getting us through these intense competitions,” Lucarelli said. “The thing that we build towards every year is to be able to run a car just directly off of solar power.”

Sunrider was FSGP National Champion last year, driving 707 miles over the three days, a far cry from the 188 miles it completed in 2022. The team is hoping to defend its title and perform well for its first time at the ASC before Sunrider retires.

Lucarelli said about 60 students total have worked on Sunrider, guided by help from professors.

“It really takes a village and a half to get everything rolling,” she said. “It can be a long process, but we have great members that put in the work.”

The organization operates on a two-year design cycle, spending a year designing the car and another manufacturing it, according to Lucarelli. The team is broken into aerobody, electrical and mechanical groups that work to produce a new car every two years.

Beyond racing, Lucarelli said the team constantly works to upgrade the car and maximize its efficiency.

“We do everything from maintenance to small updates to big revamps,” Lucarelli said. “It just comes down to the people who were working on the project at the time and any notes we received from the competition in prior years.”

Sunrider is a major improvement from its predecessors, Cielo and Torch. Torch completed only three miles in 2017 and Cielo had more mass from hot glue than solar cells.

Before racing in the FSGP, Sunrider will go through three days of scrutineering, a rigorous evaluation performed by professionals who check systems in the car to ensure safe driving and quality manufacturing, according to Lucarelli.

This year’s FSGP will be held in Bowling Green, Kentucky, at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. Once qualified in the FSGP, the team will head to Nashville, Tennessee, to begin the ASC July 20, traveling through five states before reaching the finish line in Casper, Wyoming, July 27.

Solar Gators will bring four drivers who will complete four-hour shifts during the eight-hour race days on the track and nine-hour race days on the road.

Andres Duque, a 21-year-old aerospace engineering junior, is a driver and the battery pack co-lead. He and the other drivers have trained extensively over the summer, practicing figure-eights and slaloms to pass the dynamic part of scrutineering, he said.

Duque said he’s wanted to be a driver ever since he laid eyes on the car.

“It is exhilarating to be in there,” he said. “You can really see and understand all the hard work we’ve put in.”

Sunrider maxes out at about 55 miles per hour. Its fastest lap at the FSGP last year was about 50 miles per hour.

“When you’re in there, the speed is magnified by three times,” Duque said. “It just feels like you’re flying. It’s awesome.”

Duque said more competitive teams are racing this year, but he’s confident the Solar Gators will be in the top five.

“We’re gonna have quite the competition, but I will say I feel pretty good about it,” he said.

Duque and his team will be competing against 32 teams from the U.S. and Canada, 21 of which are planning to qualify for the ASC. He said winning the ASC would be “the moment of a lifetime.”

“We’re an amazing team,” he said. “Every single one of us here has put in a ton of work, lots of dedication.”

Bragg Farmer, a 21-year-old mechanical engineering junior, works on Sunrider’s metal frame and will be changing tires and helping ensure the car operates at maximum capacity during the races.

He said he’s most excited to see the other cars and their engineering designs.

“The big thing is really going and seeing other teams and communicating with them,” Farmer said. “Winning is a nice bonus, but being able to really discuss the engineering stuff, that’s the cool part of this.”

That doesn’t mean winning isn’t a goal, he added.

“It’d be so cool, you get a trophy and you get to talk about it,” he said. “We got it in the bag.”

The ASC and FSGP are run by the Innovators Educational Foundation , a non-profit organization that celebrates engineering creativity with hands-on learning experiences. The competitions’ roots can be traced back to 1990 when General Motors held the first GM Sunrayce USA, a collegiate 1,650-mile transcontinental race.

ASC Webmaster and Media Team Member Jonathan Mullen said the competition is a unique experience with real-world applications.

“It's an opportunity for students to work with this technology and get hands-on experience designing for efficiency and sustainability that they maybe don't get other places in their education,” Mullen said. “They can bring that with them to the workforce.”

Mullen said this year’s competitions will be some of the biggest solar car races in recent history. With a majority of the teams in a good spot, he expects it to be a tough battle.

Sunrider and crew will be following seven different national historic trails for different portions of the race for the ASC’s “See America by Historic Trail” event theme, according to Mullen.

They will make three stage stops at national monuments, national historic parks or interpretive centers in Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska before finishing in Wyoming.

Sunrider’s racing days may be numbered, but the Solar Gators will be back with Flare, a brand new set of wheels the team hopes to start racing at the FSGP next summer. The ASC will return in summer 2026. Dates and locations for both competitions have not been finalized.
