Milano – Malpensa Airport

Useful information if you are planning to arrive at Milan-Malpensa. Lugano si only 1 hour away.

This international airport is situated in the area between Busto Arsizio, Gallarate and the Ticino River. It is at about 48 Km from the centre of Milan and at about 60 Km from that of Lugano (Switzerland). The fact that Malpensa is situated in one of the most industrialized area of Europe makes it the ideal crossroads for intense market flows. Today, the opening of the new airport ensures an elevated number of national, European and intercontinental flights. Malpensa is a new hub, a great pole of attraction and sorting centre both for air, road and railroad traffic, which is targeted towards the new century.

Taxi docks are located at the arrivals, ground floor, output port 6 of Terminal 1 and door 4 of Terminal 2.

Malpensa Airport is also served daily by a Shuttle Bus to Chiasso, Mendrisio and Lugano. Detailed information on timetable and ticket prices may be found on the web site of the promoting company:

Lugano by car & bus

Lugano is served by the motorway axis that directly connects Northern Europe to the Mediterranean.

Coming from Milan

Take the Laghi A9 motorway in the direction of Como-San Gottardo or the A8 motorway in the direction of Varese-Stabio (Gaggiolo). Advised exit: Lugano Sud.

Coming from Zurich

Take the A2 motorway in the direction of San Gottardo-Chiasso-Italy. Advised exit: Lugano Nord.

Please remember that to drive on Swiss motorways it is necessary to be equipped with the motorway sticker that is to be applied onto the car windshield (the cost: CHF 40.-, valid from January to December) it may be purchased at Customs (Gaggiolo - Stabio, Ponte Tresa, Chiasso).

Bus Malpensa-Lugano: La Giosy Tours si oppone al blocco della concessione

MALPENSA – Lugano-Malpensa: per il trasporto passeggeri fra la città del Canton Ticino e l’aeroporto varesino, sembra ormai inevitabile lo scontro. La società Giosy Tours, che, in concorrenza con altre aziende del trasporto su gomma, opera su questa tratta con suoi mezzi ininterrottamente dal 2005 , ha infatti dato mandato ai suoi legali di presentare opposizione al progetto di decisione dell’Ufficio federale ai trasporti (Uft), intenzionato – come da comunicazione inviata all’azienda – a non rinnovare la concessione per il trasporto internazionale di passeggeri sulle principali tratte dal Ticino a Malpensa .

Ricorso all’Ufficio federale

«L’opposizione quasi inevitabilmente sfocerà in un ricorso nel caso in cui l’Ufficio federale ai Trasporti decida di dare seguito a quanto preannunciato e quindi ad assumere una decisione ufficiale», scrive la società in una nota stampa. Secondo l’azienda di trasporto, che ha paventato in questi giorni anche le pesanti conseguenze occupazionali, «oltre che un palese disservizio per gli utenti che dal Cantone intendono servirsi di voli in partenza o in arrivo all’aeroporto italiano di Malpensa , le motivazioni del mancato rinnovo della concessione sono totalmente infondate e in particolare quella relativa alla concorrenza esercitata dal trasporto passeggeri su gomma, alla neo-nata linea ferroviaria Lugano-Malpensa».

La concorrenza del treno

Nell’opposizione (nella quale Giosy Tours è appoggiata da ASTAG espressasi con chiarezza e determinazione per la difesa della libertà delle imprese) è sottolineato fra l’altro come il servizio ferroviario «non offra ai passeggeri collegamenti nelle ore strategicamente piú importanti, ovvero quelle del primo mattino e della sera; una messa al bando dei servizi svolti con il bus si tradurrebbe quindi in una limitazione della libertà economica , in una violazione dei diritti dei passeggeri e in un intervento a gamba tesa sulle aziende private».

Il monopolio ferroviario

Di fatto, con l’eliminazione del volo da Agno con Zurigo, e ora con la cancellazione dei servizi di bus Lugano-Malpensa, « le Ferrovie si approprierebbero di un monopolio totale nel servizio passeggeri da e per gli unici due aeroporti utilizzabili per i cittadini del Canton Ticino», si legge in un comunicato di Giosy Tours. «Pretestuosa a infondata sarebbe per altro l’individuazione nelle linee di bus esercite da quasi quindici anni, di “un grave pericolo” per il servizio ferroviario , che secondo l’Ufficio federale ai Trasporti potrebbe, proprio per la concorrenza su gomma, non affermare la sua offerta di trasporto sul mercato», conclude l’azienda.
