About haryana

Haryana Roadways covers approximately 11.41 lakhs kilometers every day. There are altogether 446 inter-state and 1204 intra-state routes in Haryana. To provide better transportation services to the people, Haryana Roadways have taken several steps. Use the widespread bus service to get around the state, if you don’t have a vehicle of your own. You can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to get wherever you want to. Rented cars are all chauffeur driven, and self-driven vehicles are not available. Cycle rickshaws are also available but are useful only for short distances. In the smaller towns of the state, rickshaws are common modes of transport.

Set in the foothills of Aravalli, the small state of Haryana sprawls over an area of over 44,000 square kilometers in North India. It was founded in 1966 when the former state of Punjab was divided into Haryana and the modern Punjab.Haryana, meaning Home of Hari (goddess Vishnu) has a proud history that dates back to the Vedic age. It has witnessed the rise and fall of many an empire. The battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, described in the great epic Mahabharata is believed to have been fought on the site of the modern Kurukshetra in Haryana. It was here that Lord Krishna imparted to the Pandava warrior, Arjun the teachings of the Bhagwad Gita. Haryana is renowned for its ancient temples, impressive architecture and lush greenery, which attract large number of devotees and holidaymakers from all parts of the country.

Haryana has a distinct culture and heritage of its own, making it an attractive travel destination. Thanks to its proximity to Delhi, numerous services as well as recreational centers for tourists have been developed in Haryana. Haryana Tourism focuses on cultural, adventure, pilgrim, and golf tourism, as well as on developing crafts centers across different locations. To attract an increasing number of holidaymakers, Haryana Tourism Development Corporation has taken important steps towards the preservation of heritage sites, development of infrastructure as well as developing new tourist spots across various cities of Haryana. Attractive tourist complexes have been developed at various placaes of interest in the state, that offer comfortable accommodation at affordable prices. Haryana is well known for its folk music, dance, handicrafts, pottery and different kinds of embroidery and weaving. The grand Suraj Kund Crafts Mela organized by Haryana Tourism displays the best of its handloom and handicrafts as well as the colourful culture of Haryana and other Indian states. More information about Haryana tourism can be obtained from Haryana tourism offices, Haryana tourism guide and the official website of Haryana tourism. Adventure tourism in Haryana attracts many tourists. Haryana became a major Adventure Sport destination of India with the forming of its Adventure Club in November 1991. Rock climbing, river rafting, canoeing trekking and parasailing are some of the adventure sports activities that are conducted at different places in the state including Pinjore gardens, Damadama Lake, Panota Sahib to Hathnikund. Haryana in also noted for golf tourism. The state boasts of two big golf courses owned by Haryana Tourism. Spread over 45 acres, The Aravalli Golf course of Haryana Tourism was designed by Stephen Kay, a renowned golf course architect from the U.S.A in 1988. The other course, named the Highway Golf Course, is a 9-hole course adjacent to the Karna Lake on National Highway 1. Haryana tourism has also started offering "farm holidays" as a form of agritourism.

By Air : The nearest airport is at Chandigarh, which is well connected with cities of North India like Delhi, Amritsar and Leh.
