Whether you're planning to move to Canada and want to see what it's like, visit your Canadian family or are purely interested in holidaying in the Great White North, you will likely need a Canadian visitor visa or a tourist visa to enter Canada. What Are the Two Types of Canada Visitor Visa?

Each Canadian tourist visa has its own expressed purpose and uses.

Multiple-entry Visa

This visa will let you enter Canada for multiple periods of up to 6 months over ten years or when your passport next expires. But, once your passport expires, you can apply for a new Canada visitor visa.

Single-entry Visa

This lets you travel to Canada only one time, but this is usually under specific circumstances such as:

• The purpose of your entry to Canada is limited to an official visit
• You're eligible for a fee exemption
• You're taking part in a special Canadian event
• It's in keeping with the approved country procedures and guidelines

Once you leave Canada, you must apply for another visa to return.

Updated Canadian Travel Requirements

While the visa types differ, the basic requirements of each visa remain essentially the same. Therefore, before you begin your application process, you must fulfill all necessary criteria via this Canada visitor visa checklist. This is as follows. You must:

What Documents Are Required For a Canada Visitor Visa?

• Own Passport
• Copy of birth certificate
• Letter of authorization signed by both parents/legal guardians with contact information (in English or French if possible)

Minor's Travelling With One Parent or Guardian

Children who are traveling to Canada with one parent or legal guardian will require the following documents:

• Child's passport
• Letter of authorization signed by the parent not accompanying the child with contact details (in English or French if possible)

Parents that are Separated, Divorced, or Have Shared Custody

• Copies of legal custody documents
• Letter of authorization from the other parent/guardian

Parents that are Separated or Divorced and One Parent Has Sole Custody

• Letter of authorization signed by that parent
• Custody decree

One of the Parents is Deceased

• Copy of death certificate

Adoptive Parents or Legal Guardian

• Copy of guardianship/adoption papers

Minor Travelling to Canada With Anyone Other Than Parents or Legal Guardian

• Written consent from parents or guardians to supervise the child (include contact details of parents/guardians)
• Copy of parents' or legal guardian's signed passports or national identity cards

How do I Apply For Visitor Visa Canada?

Once you've made sure you fulfill all criteria, collected all of the required documents and ensured you have every visa application form, you can apply for visitor visa Canada online via the government website. You do this in 3 simple steps:

Step 1: Create an Account

You create an account on the government's official website . In doing this, you will submit certain details, such as your reason for going to Canada, which will help the government of Canada determine which application process you must undertake.

The Canada Visitor Visa has been open for all vaccinated tourists since September 7, 2021. However, On October 1, 2022, all COVID-19 border requirements, including vaccination, use of ArriveCAN, testing and quarantine or isolation requirements, ended for all travellers entering the country.

How Can I Extend My Stay in Canada After My Visitor Visa Expires?

If you want to prolong your stay in Canada after six months, you can apply for a visitor record, giving you a new expiry date. You must apply at least 30 days before your Canadian visitor visa expires. You apply online on the Canadian government website.

What Must do if I Have COVID-19 Symptoms

You should not travel to Canada, should you have COVID-19 symptoms. If COVID-19 symptoms appear en route to Canada or as you arrive:

• You must inform flight attendants, cruise staff or a border official as soon as you arrive
• You'll possibly be referred to a Quarantine Officer to have your health assessed
• Do not use public transport
• Take a   at what COVID-19 requirements for when you test positive are for the province your province or territory you are entering.

Is a Visitor or Tourist Visa the Same as a Temporary Resident Visa?

South Africans lose visa-free entry to Ireland

South Africa and Botswana nationals are required to obtain a visa before travelling to Ireland, effective from Wednesday.

A transit visa will also be required if intending to transit through Ireland en route to another destination.

"This is a carefully considered decision which will bring Ireland into closer alignment with the Schengen area in respect of both countries, and into line with the UK in respect of South Africa," justice minister Helen McEntee said on Monday.

She said in recent years a significant number of international protection applications, which are referred to as refugee status in South Africa, have been received from nationals of Botswana and South Africa.

The Dublin visa office will establish a dedicated desk to process applications from South African passport holders. The department will also establish three visa applications centres in South Africa  with visa service provider VFS Global.

Transitional arrangements will be put in place for nationals of Botswana and South Africa who have existing arrangements made before July 10 2024 to travel to Ireland until August 9. Those  who have existing travel arrangements are advised to check irishimmigration.ie for further information.

Exemption of Visa (Short-Term Stay)

Japan has taken measures on the visa exemption arrangements for 71 countries/regions as shown in the chart below.

・Period of Stay

• The period of stay granted at the time of the landing permission will be "15 days" for Indonesia and Thailand, “14 days” for Brunei, "30 days" for United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and "90 days" for other countries and regions.
• (Note 1) For nationals of Indonesia (since December 1, 2014), visas are not required only for those who have registered ICAO-compliant ePassport to diplomatic missions of Japan in Indonesia (the embassy, consulates-general, or the consulate). Validity of the registration is three years period or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
• (Note 2) For nationals of Malaysia (since July 1, 2013), visas are not required only for holders of ePassport in compliance with ICAO standards. Those who do not hold such ePassport are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused entry to Japan.
• (Note 3) For nationals of Panama (since April 1, 2024), Brazil (since September 30, 2023), United Arab Emirates (since November 1, 2022), Thailand (since July 1, 2013) and Serbia (since May 1, 2011), visas are not required only for holders of ePassport in compliance with ICAO standards. Those who do not hold such ePassport are requested to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be refused to enter Japan.
• (Note 4) For citizens of Hong Kong, visas are not required only for holders of Special Administrative Region (SAR) passport issued by the Hong Kong SAR of the People’s Republic of China or British National Overseas (BNO) passports who have the right of residence in Hong Kong.
• (Note 5) For citizens of Macao, visas are not required only for holders of SAR passport issued by the Macao SAR of the People’s Republic of China.
• (Note 6) Visa exemption arrangements for Taiwan is limited to passport holders with a personal ID number.
• (Note 7) For nationals of Barbados (since April 1, 2010), Türkiye (since April 1, 2011) and Lesotho (since April 1, 2010), visas are not required only for holders of Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) in compliance with ICAO standards. Those who do not hold an MRP are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused entry to Japan.

• (Note 9) For nationals of Qatar (since April 2, 2023), visas are not required only for those who have registered ICAO-compliant ePassport to diplomatic missions of Japan (the embassy, consulates-general, or the consulate). Validity of the registration is three years period or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
• (Note 10)Nationals of Peru (since July 15,1995) and Colombia (since February 1, 2004) are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused entry to Japan.

For First Time, NATO Accuses China of Supplying Russia’s Attacks on Ukraine

NATO Calls China a ‘Decisive Enabler’ in Russia’s War on Ukraine

As NATO allies agreed today in our summit declaration, China has become a decisive enabler of Russia’s war against Ukraine. And China’s support increases the threat Russia poses to Euro-Atlantic security. China cannot enable the largest conflict in Europe in recent history without this negatively impacting their interest and reputation. China provides dual-use equipment, microelectronics, a lot of other tools, which are enabling Russia to build the missiles, to build the bombs, to build the aircraft, to build the weapons they are using to attack Ukraine.

After decades of viewing China as a distant threat, NATO on Wednesday accused Beijing of becoming “a decisive enabler of Russia’s war against Ukraine,” and demanded that it halt shipments of “weapons components” and other technology critical to the rebuilding of the Russian military.

The statement is contained in a declaration approved by the 32 leaders of the alliance, shortly before they headed to a dinner at the White House on Wednesday night. It is a major departure for NATO, which until 2019 never officially mentioned China as a concern, and then only in the blandest of language.

Now, for the first time, the alliance has joined in Washington’s denunciations of China’s military support for Russia.

But the declaration contains an implicit threat that China’s growing support for Russia will come at a cost. China “cannot enable the largest war in Europe in recent history without this negatively impacting its interests and reputation,” the declaration said, particularly calling out “its large-scale support for Russia’s defense industrial base.”

The NATO declaration did not specify what those costs would be, although the natural first step would be economic sanctions that barred China from parts of global markets.

Even a year ago, European leaders were hesitant to challenge Beijing, especially nations like Germany that view China as a critical market for high-end cars and luxury goods.

Many European leaders initially dismissed the agreement reached in early 2022, just before the Beijing Olympics, for a “partnership without limits” signed by President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and President Xi Jinping of China. Even President Biden said he had his doubts that the two countries, with a long history of enmity, could work together. In March 2023, during a trip to Canada, he said , “I think we vastly exaggerate” the partnership.

“I’ve been hearing now for the past three months about ‘China is going to provide significant weapons to Russia and they’re gonna’ — a lot of talk about that,” Mr. Biden added. “They haven’t yet. Doesn’t mean they won’t, but they haven’t yet.”

But 29 months after the invasion of Ukraine, that view has changed drastically. While China has heeded warnings not to supply Russia with full weapons systems, it has done everything short of that, providing computer chips, advanced software and the components needed for Russia to rebuild a defense industrial base that churned out faulty and outdated equipment.

The intelligence evidence was provided to NATO countries by the Biden administration, in an effort to win over skeptics who argued that China was not a central player in the war. That succeeded, but only after the United States published the names, in a Treasury Department economic sanctions order, of Chinese front companies and manufacturers that were funneling the technology to Russia.

“The declaration demonstrates that NATO allies now collectively understand this challenge and are calling on the P.R.C. to cease this activity,” Jake Sullivan, Mr. Biden’s national security adviser, said on Wednesday afternoon, referring to the People’s Republic of China. “If this P.R.C. support continues, it will degrade its relations across Europe, and the United States will continue to impose sanctions on P.R.C. entities involved in this activity, in coordination with our European allies.”

The declaration also blames China for “malicious cyber and hybrid activities, including disinformation” aimed at the United States and Europe. Earlier this week, the United States and several of its allies warned of a hacking group linked to China’s Ministry of State Security that appears to be focused on stealing well-protected government and commercial secrets. White House officials have spent much of the past few years focused on a different group that it has charged with planting malware in American critical infrastructure, which could be activated to cut off pipelines and electric grids in a confrontation over Taiwan.

China has denied that it is preparing for cyberattacks or that it is a major factor in the war in Ukraine. Chinese officials have, publicly and privately, accused Washington of deep hypocrisy, noting the tens of billions of dollars in ammunition, missile systems, tanks and, soon, F-16 jets that the United States is giving to Ukrainian fighters.

In May, when American sanctions were imposed, Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, called the U.S. accusations “hypocritical and highly irresponsible.” But he did not deny the specifics.

The standoff over China’s role in Ukraine is threatening to unwind whatever good will Mr. Biden developed with Mr. Xi when they met in November in California. At the time, Mr. Biden warned him privately about interfering in the 2024 presidential election, but the evidence was not yet available that China was becoming a major force, alongside Iran and North Korea, in supplying the Russian war effort.

For China, the move to aid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is relatively new. The weekend before the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, China’s top foreign policy official, Wang Yi, told the Munich Security Conference that Beijing respected the sovereignty of independent nations, including Ukraine. But now it is making little secret of its support for Russia’s effort to wipe the country off the map and integrate its territory.

Since then, China’s number of joint projects with Russia, including military exercises, has been striking. Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin have met about 50 times as presidents. And their joint effort with Europe to contain the growth of North Korea’s nuclear arsenal and prevent Iran from taking a similar path has been abandoned.

How long can I stay in Canada as a visitor?

• If you need a stamp, you can ask a border services officer for one. If you arrive at an airport that uses primary inspection kiosks , ask the border services officer after you finish at the kiosk.

If you want to stay longer than your authorized stay, you should apply for an extension at least 30 days before the authorized end of your stay.

New entry requirement now in effect

Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada by air. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens , and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.

Visitor Visa rejection with Canadian wife

I'm Canadian and my husband is Mexican. We live together full-time in Mexico. We wanted to go visit my parents, sister and friends in Canada for 2 weeks. My husband's visa application was just rejected with the generic reasons of "significant family ties in Canada" and "visit not consistent with a temporary stay." It's ridiculous, because if we actually wanted to move to Canada I could easily sponsor him for residency as his spouse. But we DO NOT want to move to Canada. We thought he included enough proof that we'd be returning to Mexico. Return flights back to Mexico, proof of his job in Mexico, proof that I live in Mexico with him, our 1-year lease for our apartment in Mexico that we just renewed, my residency in Mexico which I just renewed for another year, proof of things we would be doing in Mexico (and already paid for) soon after we returned, etc. It feels like they just automatically noped him for having a Canadian spouse without actually using logic. I don't want him to never be able to come with me to visit my parents, they're older and they find it hard to come to Mexico. But we don't want to have to apply for residency for him and then be forced to move to Canada and live there. Any advice? Is there any point in asking for reconsideration? Should we give up and go for residency instead and then just not live in Canada? The trip is booked for September, so I don't know if that's even enough time for reconsideration or getting GMSC notes etc.
