Devil’s Peak Brewing Company
166 Gunners Circle , Epping , Western Cape , South Africa
Devil’s Peak Brewing Company is one of South Africa’s craft behemoths, and operates from what is arguably the country’s biggest craft brewery, in Epping just outside of Cape Town.
Their previous brewery in Woodstock is now just a restaurant and taproom, and joins the ranks of a series of restaurants also operated by Devil’s Peak Brewing Company.
Part of the huge installation in Epping is Afrofunk, a segregated sour facility housing a sizeable barrel-aging program. Devil’s Peak original brewing system and tanks are still in use, and can be seen on the brewery floor, eclipsed by the shear scale of the new equipment.
Devil’s Peak Brewing Company increasingly partners with other brewers and brews in partnership with or on contract for a growing number of brands including Alpha, Little Wolf, Mitchell’s from Knysna, St Francis Brewing Co, Fokof Lager, and Ukhamba Beerworx.
They also brew local versions of beer from Norway’s Amundsen Brewery, Denmark’s Mikkeler and Scotland’s Fierce Beer.

Devil’s Peak Taproom in Epping
by Marvin October 31, 2017, 4:50 pm
Building off of the success of The Taproom Salt River, Cape Town based craft producer Devil’s Peak Brewing Company is opening The Taproom Epping, an inviting brewpub and restaurant at their brand new brewing facility in Epping on 9 October, 2017. After several years of producing world-class beer at the foot of their namesake, the brewery has moved to a 6500 square metre space in the heart of the industrial epicenter of the city. This new space allows fans to experience the Devil’s Peak brand, beers and brewing in a way that was never before possible.
The Taproom at Epping is a warm, welcoming pub and restaurant with views of the new Afrofunk sour facility, the largest barrel aging program in the country, and a full complement of the latest and most innovative beers from Devil’s Peak and friends.
Visitors can expect classic favourites such as the famous Taproom cheeseburger and scrumptious bar snacks alongside an exciting menu of locally sourced, beer-inspired meals. Breakfast, lunch and after work drinks will be on offer Monday to Wednesday from 8AM to 6PM, while hours will be extended to 10pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays to include dinner service. In-house board rooms are also available to be booked out for the perfect business meeting location.
Perhaps the most exciting element of this new brewpub is the dynamic beer lineup, featuring unfiltered King’s Blockhouse IPA, international brews, limited releases and several rotating taps over eight draught lines. With access to the freshest experimental batches and barrel-aged beers, visitors can expect a wide variety of delicious new options every time they visit. Patrons are more than welcome to bring their own wine at no additional cost.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the inner workings of the Devil’s Peak Brewery with full brewery tours. Conducted twice a day at noon and 2pm, these tours will explain the entire production process – from water treatment, hop selection and malt profiles – all the way to packaging, offering an unprecedented insight into one of South Africa’s most innovative and respected craft breweries.

CAPE TOWN FOR CAPETONIANS
DEVIL’S PEAK BREWING COMPANY RELEASES NEW LAGER
South Africa’s blossoming craft beer industry just bloomed even further with the launch of a new lager from Devil’s Peak Brewing Company – a pioneer in the local craft beer scene.
To mark this occasion, a launch event recently took place at The Taproom where we got to sample the new lager alongside the highly enjoyable fare which the brewery-come-eatery is becoming famous for. Light in body, light in bitterness, pale yellow in colour and brilliantly clear, the lager is sure to be a hit with Cape Town’s increasing number of craft beer aficionados.
‘We’re a lager-loving nation, and now, through craft, we can experience our favourite beverage with more sophistication,’ says Steven Jowell, Managing Director of Devil’s Peak Brewing Company. ‘Devil’s Peak Lager highlights the tradition of beer crafted with care, to be distinctive and full of flavour. In simple terms, it’s beer as it should be.’
‘South Africans now want greater variety from their first-choice drink, and craft brewers are perfectly positioned to adapt that age-old recipe to offer something deliciously refreshing and with a great deal more personality,’ said JC Steyn, Head Brewer for the Cape-based company.
Devil’s Peak Lager will be available in 340ml bottles from mid-August through leading retail outlets nationally.
