Hands down one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had !!! I original chose this tour because I wanted to zip line. I did not really expect to enjoy any of the other parts like hiking or repelling. When I say that the hiking was the best part I mean it ! I was so surprised I did not expect to enjoy it at all. If you are looking for a tour to just hike this is the one !! Repelling was also fun and during the entire tour I had access to AMAZING views!!! I also really enjoyed the 5 zip lines and the repelling but what blew me away the MOST were the tour guides! Oh my , they take their time ! They are very courteous, passionate, and FUNNY! Oh my I was laughing the entire time ..actually me and my whole family ! I was blown away with how they treated me I mean seriously. I have never felt so welcomed before. After the zip line you hike back down the trail to a private patio like area where you get to enjoy traditional Puerto Rican food. The food was delicious !! Seriously probably one of the best dishes I've ever had! I loved the scenery & just everything about the trip all together ! I really want to thank all the tour guides as well as anyone else who took part in the tour for creating a memorable experience for me that I will cherish for the rest of my life !!

My husband and I signed up for this last minute and we could not be more pleased. We did the full day tour which included the zip lining, propelling down a water fall and hiking up the mountains and lastly ending the day with lunch at abuelitas. The food was amazing! The views and the waterfalls were absolutely breath taking and this tour was worth every penny. I highly recommend it! 5 stars all around!

Ordered a package for my parents who were visiting PR for our wedding. Rocaliza certainly lived up to their great reviews. My parents raved about the adventure but what really got me was the great customer service. Rocaliza let me know when my parents were picked up and when they were dropped off (even though I never requested it). They were incredibly helpful in choosing a package and my parents were astounded by the great guides. Seems as though Rocaliza is one of those rare companies left that really values their customers. Please keep it up!

This was the best part of our vacation. We got lost on our way to our meeting point and they waited 30 minutes for us. Great guides.

It was $150 not including tip per person, and it was worth all the money!!!! It was the best part of my trip and this tour alone made me want to come back and revisit Puerto Rico for more! For $150, Rocaliza provided transportation, safely walked us through hiking in the rainforest, rappelled down a gorgeous and AMAZING waterfall, 5 zip-lines, and ended the afternoon with a Puerto Ricano lunch by one of the tour guide's grandmother (best meal i've had in the PR!). Marcus, Luis and a third tour guide (sorry, I forgot his name) were great! They were friendly, had clear safe procedures, and were ready to take photos with your phone if you'd like! The hike itself was pretty moderate intense. You need to be healthy and somewhat in shape when you go on this hike. You're going through the creek, mini waterfalls, climbing up and out of rocks. If you've never gone rock climbing, I can see how this can be a bit daunting. (My FAVORITE PART!!) The rappel down the waterfall is like belaying down. You can't see the waterfall at first, but once you rappel down, you see how tall and grand it is. You may start on the side of the waterfall, but if you don't, about a quarter the way down you're rappelling on no rocks, and you eventually switch to the side of the waterfall. The 5 ziplines was farther every single time. I'm sure it doesn't beat Toroverde, but I wasn't too focused on ziplinning since I've done it before. Other tips and notes: - Your shoes will be completely wet. You can get watershoes at Walmart for $5, but I chose to wear my free runs because I trust their grip more and ability more. (I also didn't wear any socks so it aired out a bit easier) - I went with my boyfriend, another couple and a group of 8 college students (oh boy). It was really important to them that everyone went together (even though each activity is a SOLO activity) and they tried to go before me and my BF. So we had to wait while the party of 8 rappelled down the waterfall and ziplinned. If you're in this scenerio, just go first (no idea why we were so chill). Another reason I was a hella annoyed of their huge group was that they volunteered their backpack full of our cameras to go down with the tour guide on the waterfall so the tour guide can take photos of us. Guess what, they went down first, took their backpack (WITH MY CELL PHONE IN IT), and the tour guide couldn't take any photos of my boyfriend and I going down the waterfall ( LIKE WTHHH, are you kids so MINDLESS?). If you're the one in a huge group, please be courteous and be mindful of those around you, if it's a couple and you have like a whole group just let them go first. If you have other people's belongings in your backpack, make sure to give it to the tour guide for photos! - No need to wear a bathing suit, although you can if you want. I just wore clothes that easily dried. - Bring extra clothes, after the tour and before lunch you get the opportunity to change. - You can also buy madella's with your lunch for a bout $1 or $1.50. I love a good beer after a workout.

This was the best money I've ever spent on vacation for an adventure. My kids, one 15 and the other 12, LOVED IT and thanked me repeatedly for such a cool excursion. You need to have decent balance, coordination, and upper body strength. We did the full day El Salto excursion, which included rappelling down a big waterfall, you can't do this if you have a fear of heights. It was spectacular! The guides were friendly, knowledgable and funny. They have an eco friendly, educational attitude and a true love of their job and Puerto Rico. I highly recommend this excursion for those that like a bit of adrenaline. I never felt unsafe or frightened, but definitely exhilarated! At the end you're served a nice typical Puerto Rican meal, perfect ending to a lovely day.

Amazing experience. Picked up from our hotel right on time, very complete jungle experience with a detailed guided tour and zip line. The guides were entertaining and motivational too

Photo of Karina P.

Incredible hiking trip. We did the half day tour and were really bummed out that we didn't get to do the full day excursion. The staff were very kind and well trained. I was expecting a guided trail hike and was a littler nervous at first when we started to climb up rocks and into a creek. I very much a city girl and had never hiked off a trail. The guides were very helpful in guiding us through slippery rocks and helping us climb up mini waterfalls. The guides even provided snacks and lunch after the hike. The zip-lining was was but i think the highlight was very much the hike. Thanks for a great tour Rocaliza!

One of the best adventures my family and I have had. Marcus and Ellie were amazingly accommodating and extremely helpful. Do yourself a favor and DO THIS adventure, you won't regret it!! The hiking was equally challenging but not impossible. Adventure junkies will have a great time. The water was just the right temperature, the scenery great, and the hiking/zip-lining fantastic.

Photo of Chris V.

This is a fun thing to do in San Juan!! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the trek and the rappelling was awesome!! Markus and Ellie picked us up and were great guides. Couple of great points about this company: 1. Very flexible, my fiancé booked our trip for the wrong weekend and they were able to accommodate us for the next day even though there was only one spot left. It was very much appreciated. 2. You go for a hike, go through waterfalls, rappel, zip line 5 times, and have some very homely Puerto Rican food. 3. Accommodative - we had to pick up a car from the airport that evening and they agreed to drop us off at the airport instead of the hotel. Anyone visiting PR should definitely do this!!

Travel Adventures – Part 4: Moscow

July 7, 2016 Travel

rocaliza adventure tours photos

This beautiful woman lingered for a moment on the steps at one of the several churches in the Sergeiv Posad Monastery. I thought she was absolutely beautiful.

So far in this journey we have visited some wonderful cities … Helsinki, Finland, Tallinn, Estonia and St. Petersburg, Russia. We have traveled together along the waterways of Russia to such exotic sounding places as Mandrogy, Kitzy Island, Goritzy, Uglich, and Yaroslavl and seen the beauty of the countryside in between these towns. But our ship finally came to dock in Moscow, the capital of Russia and I really had no idea what to expect!

One advantage of travel tour is that you get a good general overview of an area. That’s the good news, of course. The bad news on most tours — and this tour certainly was no exception –was that you never did have a lot of time to explore on your own. The guides and the schedule kept you pretty busy all of the time. It was great for getting information and seeing a lot, but difficult for photographers who like to explore in more depth.

When we got to Moscow, we hopped on buses and were off to tour the city. Moscow is a huge city with so much traffic that I vowed never to complain about the traffic on Los Angeles freeways ever again. I couldn’t believe how tough you had to be to drive in this city. It played havoc with all schedules and timetables because what should have taken just 20 minutes to drive ended up taking an hour. One of the reasons is how they handle their traffic accidents. From what we understood and saw, cars involved in accidents were not allowed to move until both the police and the insurance adjuster came. So, a simple traffic accident could snarl things for hours. There is definitely a different viewpoint here than back home.

The traffic on every street no matter the hour seemed to be hectic.

rocaliza adventure tours photos

The city of Moscow is upbeat with many shops, theaters, and restaurants and such. We saw shops with all of the latest and most expensive designers. All of the big brand names in clothing had shops. During this introductory tour, we were dropped off on a rather large street and told to walk through an arch into a huge open area. A large red brick/stone wall ran down one side and the most magnificent Russian Church we had seen so far was at the far end. The area was enormous and, of course, it was the famous Red Square. Behind the brick/stone wall was the Kremlin. I had to pause to take it all in, because never in my life would I have ever imagined myself standing there! The look on my sister and friend’s faces, told the same story that I was feeling … ABSOLUTE AWE!

We had some time to wander and walk by Lenin’s tomb before we had to return to the bus to continue the general tour of the city.

rocaliza adventure tours photos

From an overlook within the St. Basil Cathedral, you can get a fabulous overview of Red Square. The Kremlin wall is on the left side of the image; at the end of that wall is the Spasskaya Tower. The red building with two towers is the National Historical Museum, barely seen and tucked into the corner to the right of the Museum is Kazan Cathedral and along the right side is the turn of the century arcades of Gum’s department store.

Along the wall that separates the Kremlin from Red Square is Lenin’s tomb. His body has been on public display there since the year he died in 1924.

A night tour took us past some of the brightly lit gambling casinos in Moscow. The bouncing bus, combined with the bright neon lighting, brought a few interesting photo opportunities. We attended a wonderful concert that featured many of the traditional musical instruments of Russia — another photo opportunity not normally available in a theater, but because the audience was from the various tours and ships that were in Moscow that particular evening, we could take photos — but of course, not with flash, which is always a disturbance to the performers. As we left the concert, the moon was just rising over one of the beautiful cathedral spires. My friend Anne caught the shot (3rd below/right). She is quick and steady and got a round of applause when she “nailed it!”

rocaliza adventure tours photos

Driving through Moscow’s downtown area at night was fascinating. It was bright with colored lights. Many casinos and restaurants were lit up and looked very busy. It was a supercharged city that came alive at night.

St. Basil’s in Red Square was beautiful during the day but at night it was a fairy tale. This is one of Russia’s most beautiful cathedrals.

Square at night is spectacular with the Gums building in sparkling lights.

rocaliza adventure tours photos

Leaving the theater one night we were just in time to see the moonrise near one of Moscow’s cathedrals.

The next day we toured the park adjacent to the grounds of the beautiful Novodevichy Conventwhere many exiled or self-exiled royal wives, daughters and lovers “took the veil” (which means they chose to become a nun), to get out of their marriage, family or mistress arrangement, since divorce was not allowed. It is in this park where you will find the lovely bronze ducks, given as a gift by President George Walker Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush. We visited the Kremlin and I was surprised to find out that there were 5 or 6 churches within its walls. In the Armory, the stunningly beautiful royal clothes, jewels and carriages were housed. It was amazing to see that even the carriages were embedded with jewels.

The Novodevichy Convent where many exiled or self-exiled royal family members “took the Veil”. The park like setting was one of the most beautiful we had seen.

rocaliza adventure tours photos

We had the opportunity to go into their frightfully expensive, but stunningly wonderful GUM (pronounced we discovered like “goom” not “gum” as in chewing gum). Just wandering up and down this multilevel shopping extravaganza was a treat.

rocaliza adventure tours photos

Gums is a large collection of shops on one side of Red Square. The three level, indoor mall features eating establishments, large walkways and bridges from one side to another. It is frequently used as a setting for newly wed brides.

The next morning, my friend Stan Westfall and I decided to take the tour to the Sergiev Posad Monastery. My sister, Sunny, and our friend Anne Westfall opted to visit the Pushkin Museum in the morning and the Tretyakov Gallery in the afternoon. Since we were going to have separate adventures to share that evening, I reminded them to take lots and lots of photographs so we could enjoy their day as well.

In the center of the Sergeiv Posad Monastery there is a beautiful Holy Water fountain where people come to drink, to bless and to carry home a small jar of Holy Water.

Panicked hikers scramble down mountain as they try to escape erupting volcano in indonesia.

Panicked hikers were caught on video scrambling down the side of an Indonesian volcano that suddenly erupted in front of them, sending a plume of ash thousands of feet into the air.

The stunning footage — captured by a government drone earlier this month — shows a group of about a dozen hikers cresting the rim of Mount Dukono when the mammoth cloud of gas and ash rolls toward them with hair-raising speed.

They quickly start rappelling down the side of the steep cone, dropping quickly in a mad dash for their lives.

Miraculously, everyone survived the harrowing adventure, according to the Telegraph.

But it could have been much worse.

rocaliza adventure tours photos

As it turns out, the group disregarded a ban on entering a particularly dangerous zone on the mountainous, sparsely-populated island of Halmahera, the outlet said.

Indonesia’s national disaster agency had warned people not to climb Dukono, which has been erupting continuously since the 1930s, because of increased volcanic activity.

“The general public is advised not to climb or visit Mount Dukono as volcanic activity is still high at the moment,” said Priatin Hadi Wijaya, the head of the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation, before adding that authorities banned people from coming within about 2 miles of the crater.

Indonesia Volcano Eruption

The climbers went anyway — and the mountain repaid their curiosity in kind.

Indonesia, which sits along the Pacific Ocean’s “Ring of Fire,” is a hotbed of volcanic activity and has about 120 active volcanoes.

Perhaps you already know, but there is a great difference between Moscow, St. Petersburg, and all other towns and cities in Russia. Visiting the countryside is a great opportunity to travel the real Russia and to see the common life of ordinary people. The best choice for a one-day Russian countryside experience is the Vladimir and Suzdal tour.

Vladimir and Suzdal are small towns that are famous worldwide because of their great history and picturesque architecture with numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the 12th century. Aside from golden cupolas of stunning churches and monasteries, you will experience a very rural real Russian outlook with bubbling streams and grassy meadows, chickens and livestock, and interesting and authentic local residents. All are a common sight on the streets, some of which remain unpaved. Be ready for a full-day trip and many unforgettable experiences during your Russian holidays!

Ukraine launched “one of the largest ever” drone attacks on the Russian capital of Moscow, according to Kremlin officials, in the latest flashpoint of the brutal war between the two nations.

The Russian defence ministry said 45 drones were shot down in a wide-ranging attack, including 23 over the border Bryansk region, six over the Belgorod region, three over the Kaluga region and two over the Kursk region.

Air defences shot down 11 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow, in one of the biggest of such strikes ever against the capital, officials said on Wednesday.

“Moscow’s layered defence against enemy UAVs that was created has allowed us to successfully repel all attacks,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a Telegram post.

“This is one of the largest ever attempts to attack Moscow with drones.”

Sobyanin said in an earlier post that no damage or casualties had been reported.

Acting regional governor Alexei Smirnov has claimed on Telegram one person was killed in the Kursk region after a drone dropped on a bomb on their car.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military has claimed it downed 50 of the 69 drones Russia sent its way in an overnight assault.

Drone attacks on Moscow are rare, with Russia saying in May it had downed a drone outside the capital, forcing restrictions to be imposed at two major airports in the city for under an hour.

Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected Chechen troops during his first visit to the Muslim republic for the first time 13 years on Tuesday local time.

He was joined by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov as troops and volunteers readied to fight Ukraine.

“As long as we have men like you, we are absolutely, absolutely invincible,” Putin said according to a transcript on the Kremlin’s website.

“It is one thing to shoot at a shooting range here, and another thing to put your life and health at risk.

The visit came three weeks after Ukraine’s surprise incursion into enemy territory, with Russian troops struggling to force back the offensive.

There was also a major political move in Ukraine on Wednesday, with its parliament voting to join the International Criminal Court, as Kyiv seeks to bring Russia on charges over war crimes it is alleged to have committed throughout its invasion.

Kyiv has repeatedly targeted oil and gas facilities in Russia since the conflict began in 2022, some hundreds of kilometres from its borders, in what it has called “fair” retaliation for attacks on its energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian drones attacked an oil storage facility in Russia’s southern Rostov region on Sunday, sparking a large fire, the local governor said.

The blaze in the city of Proletarsk was still raging on Tuesday, with around 500 Russian firefighters working to put it out.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised his forces for hitting oil facilities in Russia, saying the attacks would help bring a “just end” to the conflict.

The drone attacks come as Ukraine mounts an unprecedented cross-border assault into Russia’s Kursk region, where it claims to control more than 80 settlements.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a “return of peace” Wednesday as he left for Ukraine, weeks after Kyiv condemned him for hugging President Vladimir Putin during a visit to traditional ally Russia.

Modi, 73, will first visit Poland before travelling on to Ukraine on Friday. “As a friend and partner, we hope for an early return of peace and stability in the region”, Modi said on social media.

The premier has trodden a delicate balance between maintaining India’s historically warm ties with Russia while courting closer security partnerships with Western nations as a bulwark against regional rival China.

His government has avoided explicit condemnations of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, instead urging both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue.

It will be Modi’s first visit to Ukraine, and he said he would discuss with President Volodymyr Zelensky “perspectives on the peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict”, as well as the “deepening the India-Ukraine friendship”.

Moscow sees one of Ukraine’s largest drone attacks as fighting rages in Kursk and eastern Ukraine

Moscow came under one of the largest attacks by Ukrainian drones since the start of fighting in 2022, Russian authorities reported Wednesday, saying they destroyed all of those headed toward the capital.

The drone attacks come as Ukrainian forces are continuing to push into Russia’s western Kursk region. In the past week, they have also struck three bridges, several airfields and an oil depot in a sign they are not letting up on their attacks.

“This was one of the biggest attempts of all time to attack Moscow using drones,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on his Telegram channel. He said strong defenses around the capital made it possible to shoot down all the drones before they could hit their intended targets.

Russia said it downed 45 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 11 over the Moscow region. There was no independent information to verify those figures.

Some Russian social media channels shared videos of drones apparently being destroyed by air defense systems, which then set off car alarms.

Ukraine strikes on bridges could potentially trap Russian troops at border

Russian sources say that Ukrainian forces have either destroyed or damaged all three of the bridges over the Seim River in western Russia as Kyiv’s incursion into western Russia enters its third week

While Ukraine has been bogged down in a land conflict in eastern Ukraine in which the Russians have been driving forward slowly at a heavy cost to both sides, both countries have been been sending drones deep into each other’s territory.

Ukrainian drone strikes have brought the fight far from the front line into the heart of Russia, targeting the Russian capital and second city St. Petersburg, and an airport in Western Russia, according to Russian officials.

Since the beginning of this year, Ukraine has stepped up aerial assaults on Russian soil, targeting refineries and oil terminals to slow down the Kremlin’s assault.

A fire at an oil depot targeted by Ukraine burned for the fourth day Wednesday in Rostov, a region in southwestern Russia that borders Ukraine. Priests from the Russian Orthodox Church held a prayer service for injured firefighters as dark plumes of smoke rose in the distance at the oil depot in Proletarsk, according to a photo shared on social media by the Volgodonsk diocese.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 69 drones and three missiles at Ukraine overnight, describing it as Russia’s biggest drone attack so far in August. Ukraine said its air defenses shot them down and no casualties or destruction were reported.

Ukraine has in recent months stepped up aerial assaults on Russian soil, while Moscow’s army is pressing hard along the front line in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine’s daring land incursion into Russia has raised morale in Ukraine with its surprising success and changed the dynamic of the fighting. But it’s uncertain how long Ukraine will be able to hold the territory it has seized in Kursk.

It has opened up another front in a fight where Ukrainian forces were already badly stretched, with active hostilities taking place along more than 600 miles. The gains in Kursk come as Ukraine continues to lose ground in its eastern industrial region of Donbas.

The Russian state news agency Tass reported that 31 people had died since Ukraine’s attack on Russia began Aug. 6, figures that are impossible to verify. It said 143 people had suffered injuries, of whom 79 were hospitalized, including four children.

A Ukrainian drone dropped an explosive device on a car in the Bolshesoldatsky area of the Kursk region, slightly northeast of the town of Sudzha, the acting governor Alexei Smirnov said. One woman was killed immediately and two others were hospitalized, he said.

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said Ukraine’s attack on Kursk has ended “any possibility” of peace negotiations.

Ukraine intensifies its long-range strikes, sinking a Russian submarine and striking an airfield

Ukrainian military officials say they have sunk a Russian submarine and hit a Russian airfield.

“Who will negotiate with them after this, after the atrocities, the terror that they are committing against peaceful residents, the civilian population, civilian infrastructure and peaceful facilities,” she said at a briefing Wednesday in Moscow.

Ukraine said it was respecting the Geneva Conventions, the international humanitarian rules of war.

Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said Kyiv established an office in the Kursk region to provide humanitarian and medical aid to the local population. More than 90% of the Russian civilians who stayed in territories of the Kursk region currently controlled by Ukraine are aged 60 and older, he said.

“We have no right to leave them there to die,” Klymenko said, according to the Ukrinform national news agency.

Ukraine’s attacks on three bridges over the Seym River in Kursk could potentially trap Russian forces between the river, the Ukrainian advance and the Ukrainian border. Already they appear to be slowing down Russia’s response to the Kursk incursion.

Ukrainian forces appear to be striking Russian pontoon bridges and pontoon engineering equipment over the Seym in an area west of the Ukrainian advance point, the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War said Tuesday.

Satellite photos from Planet Labs PBC analyzed Wednesday by the Associated Press showed a significant fire on the Seym near the village of Krasnooktyabrskoe.

The blaze appeared on the northern bank of the river on Tuesday, with another fire seemingly in the village itself. Such fires are common after strikes and often signify where ongoing front-line combat is taking place.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had thwarted attack attempts by Ukrainian assault groups in the Kursk region, according to a report from Tass. Ukraine’s armed forces saw more than 45 soldiers killed or wounded over the past 24 hours while two were captured while attempting to attack the Kursk region, Tass said. There was no independent confirmation of those numbers and no comment from the Ukrainian side.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Army General Staff said it struck a Russian S-300 defense system Wednesday some 125 miles behind enemy lines in Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region. It said Russia had used the S-300 system for ground strikes at Ukrainian troops and peaceful cities, “destroying residential buildings and terrorizing the civilian population.”

Associated Press writer Jon Gambrell in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, contributed to this report.
