Het was een geweldige cruisevakantie die wij hebben gehad. Het was een georganiseerde groepsreis via Stip Reizen Cruises . De vakantie dreigde in duigen te vallen, wegens een te grote belangstelling waren alle hutten al volgeboekt. Hierover ontvingen wij een mail, waarin Stip aangaf een upgrade geregeld te hebben zonder bij te betalen. De reis was All- Inclusieve en we vlogen met Transavia. Behalve de excursies, die kwamen er nog wel bij. Het eten was perfect. En het was een geweldige samengestelde groep. Kortom dit was een reis waar ik nog graag over praat, door toedoen van Stip eindigde het in een TOP vakantie.

Van 22-29 februari 2016 hebben mijn zusje en ik onze eerste cruise gemaakt met de Costa Diadema over de Middellandse zee. Wij reisden met Stip voor een redelijke prijs en hadden een Premium-hut met balkon geboekt. De hut bleek op een hoek te liggen en was een stuk kleiner dan in de brochure stond, daardoor misten wij het zitje dat er normaal in hoort te staan en moesten op bed lezen. De Costa Diadema is eigenlijk een luxe veerboot, in elke haven stapten mensen op of gingen van boord.
Het is een budgetboot voor gezinnen, hele families, vriend(inn)en groepjes, die van reuring houden en niet voor meer verwende en ervaren cruisegangers. De hele boot glimt, schittert en knippert je tegemoet, maar dit overdadige design went na een poosje.
Alles was in onze ogen goed georganiseerd,en ja elke keer werd omgeroepen dat er een veiligheidsoefening voor de nieuwkomers was.

Op deze wijze willen wij de mensen van Stip Reizen bedanken voor de goede zorgen tijdens onze cruise reis in de caribean. Tijdens onze reis waren wij wat bagage kwijtgeraakt en met tussenkomst van Stip hebben we deze toch redelijk snel in ons bezit teruggekregen.

We hebben afgelopen jaar onze cruise op de Middellandse zee via stipreizen geboekt. Vliegen vanaf schiphol naar Venetie. Op het vliegveld stond een taxi klaar voor ons die ons direct naar de cruiseterminal bracht. Op de Costa Fascinosa was ook alles uitstekend geregeld. Bari was voor ons een openbaring, net zoals de andere steden waar we hebben aangemeerd. Lekker gegeten, goed geslapen en een mooie vakantie gehad. De terugreis was ook goed geregeld met dezelfde service van Stipreizen. Stip reizen; we boeken weer bij jullie voor een volgende cruise!

Mensen aan de telefoon bij Stip Reizen weten van cruisen. Eigenlijk komt het er op neer dat ze zeggen: Stip Reizen is supergoedkoop, dus that’s it! Dat goedkope valt ook wel mee. Op andere sites vond ik de cruise voor een iets hogere prijs, alleen werd dat niet zo schreeuwerig gebracht.

Ik heb een citytrip bij stip reizen geboekt. Deze had ik dan betaald en kreeg geen betalingsbevestiging. Na lang wachten, besloot ik om zelf het initiatief te nemen en Stip reizen een email te sturen. Na lang geen antwoord te krijgen, besloot ik om stip reizen op te bellen. Stip reizen beweerden dat ze telefonisch contact met mij hadden opgenomen en dat ik de reis annuleerde. Hierdoor was ik mijn annuleringskosten kwijt (zo’n 40€). Het resterende bedrag zou stip reizen aan mij terugstorten. Ik wou helemaal geen annulatie, mijn betaling was op tijd en er was niets misgelopen langs mijn kant. Ze lieten me wel weten dat ik dezelfde reis opnieuw bij hun kon boeken en op die manier mijn annuleringskosten zou kunnen terugkrijgen. Het nadeel hieraan is dat diezelfde reis plots veel duurder ging zijn. Ik heb het hier maar bij gelaten en was mijn 40€ kwijt. Ik ga hier nooit meer een reis boeken.

Sergiev Posad: What to see and do in Russia’s most Orthodox city

This small town has such a rich history and so much to tell about Russian culture and traditions that anyone interested in the country should definitely pay a visit. What’s more, the city is part of the Golden Ring tourist route, the only one inside Moscow Region, making it relatively reachable for a day trip from the capital.

• Find the monument to Peter and Fevronia, the patron saints of marriage and family

A posad in Ancient Rus was the territory that surrounded a monastery or princely domain. They tended to be inhabited by artisans and traders, so were basically markets. Such a settlement took shape around the Trinity-Sergius Monastery by decree of Catherine the Great in 1782, and was named Sergiev in honor of St Sergius of Radonezh. 

What is the Trinity-Sergius Lavra famous for?

According to legend, Sergius of Radonezh arrived here in the 1340s (some historians even pinpoint the year as 1342). He and a group of monks built a small dwelling for themselves, next to which they constructed a church in honor of the Holy Trinity.

Be sure to visit Trinity Cathedral. The modern version was built in 1422 (although it has been modified and renovated several times since). The finest master craftsmen of the 15th century worked on the interior decoration. It was for the iconostasis here that Andrei Rublev painted his famous Trinity icon, one of the most revered in the Russian Orthodox Church. It takes a trained eye to spot it. Look in the bottom row of the iconostasis – the first icon to the right of the gate leading to the altar.

Here’s a handy church-going hack. If you don’t know the name of a church, look at the lower icon to the right of the gate – a church is always devoted to this icon.

Trinity Cathedral was a particular favorite of Ivan the Terrible. It was here that he was baptized, got married, and held prayers after successful military campaigns.

The monastery withstood a siege by Polish invaders during the Time of Troubles, and supported Peter the Great when he was plotting a coup d’état against the regency of his half-sister Sophia Alekseyevna.

There are about ten churches inside the monastery, built at different times from the 15th to the 18th century. They offer a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of Russian church architecture.

There’s no need to see inside all of them, otherwise you’ll suffer church overload. But Assumption Cathedral, commissioned by Ivan the Terrible himself, is a must. It is recognizable by its blue domes with golden stars (by the way, whatever Golden Ring city you happen to be in, such domes signify that the shrine is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

Inside, you should definitely look up to admire the murals. Also, be sure to find the old wooden coffin of St. Sergius of Radonezh (although his actual relics are in Trinity Cathedral). 

What is Sergius of Radonezh famous for?

For Russians, the name of Sergius of Radonezh is associated with the country’s revival after the centuries of Tatar-Mongol rule, and the so-called Russian Renaissance. He and his students founded not only the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, but a dozen other monasteries in central Russia, making him perhaps the most revered Russian saint in the Orthodox world. In the 20th century, he was also officially recognized by the Catholic Church.

His secular name was Bartholomew. According to legend, it was his childhood dream to become a monk, and after taking the vows he became Sergius. He was born near the city of Rostov in Yaroslavl Region (another Golden Ring city), but later his family moved to Radonezh.

His unworldly spiritual path, asceticism, and moral sermons profoundly affected his descendants, who elevated him to the sainthood, and to a special rank at that – Prepodobny , meaning “venerable.”

Sergius of Radonezh essentially reformed the whole of monastic life. He forbade monks from leaving the monastery grounds to beg for alms, whereupon they began to farm and provide for themselves. In addition, he introduced the principles of communal living, which meant no private property at all, common bread, etc., which enabled Russian monasteries to become hospices, i.e. they were able to receive wanderers and pilgrims, which figuratively and literally helped to “bind the lands and the people” – a vitally important concept at that time.

The spiritual authority of Sergius was so immense that he is considered nothing less than the “unifier of Rus” – it was he who rallied the fragmented feudal principalities to unite around just one, Muscovy, in order to cast off the Tatar-Mongol yoke. For many decades, the Golden Horde had been ravaging the Russian lands (the reason Sergius and his parents moved to Radonezh was because Rostov had been sacked).

Before one of the most famous battles in medieval Russia – the Battle of Kulikovo Field – Prince Dmitry Donskoy requested the blessing of Sergius, who duly complied and even sent two of his bogatyr (warrior) monks to fight against the Tatars. 

What else to see in Sergiev Posad?

The monastery is not the be-all and see-all of the city. There are a dozen cozy museums to visit. The main one, the Sergiev Posad State Historical and Art Museum Reserve, houses a large collection of ancient icons and church handicraft items, as well as other exhibits telling about Russian life from ancient to Soviet times.

There is also the Toy Museum, founded in 1918, where you can see old Russian and Soviet toys, including ones that belonged to the children of the last Russian tsar, Nicholas II.

And to see how a typical Russian hut looked, you can visit the Once-Upon-a-Time Museum, in which kitchen utensils, spinning wheels, and all kinds of tools are displayed – everything that Russian hut dwellers would have owned.

Not far from the Lavra are three other places worth a trip.

1. Abramtsevo Estate (see our in-depth article here ).

Built by millionaire merchant Savva Mamontov, it hosted gatherings of the finest Russian writers and artists of the late 19th–early 20th century. It could be said to be a prototype of modern art residences.

2. The Pokrovsky Khotkov Monastery

The Pokrovsky Khotkov Monastery was the first refuge of the young monk Sergius of Radonezh. It was from here that he set off to found his dwelling place. The main Intercession Cathedral stores the relics of his parents. There is also the red-brick Nikolsky Cathedral, built much later in 1904, but in the style of a Byzantine temple.

3. Muranovo Estate

If you’re interested in how the estate of a second-tier nobleman looked in the 19th century, then head for Muranovo. Here, you will see a manor house and park – some of the trees are more than 150 years old! In addition, you’ll learn about the Russian poet Fedor Tyutchev, whose family lived here. Riviercruiseschip Allegro in het nieuw bij Stip

In het weekend van 5-7 april liet de Allegro***+ zich in volle glorie zien tijdens de open dagen door heel Nederland. Afgelopen maanden is het schip geheel verbouwd voor haar 134 gasten.

Cruisereiziger Miriam was even aan boord in Rotterdam, net voordat het schip dit seizoen haar allereerste cruise zou maken voor Stip Reizen.

Receptie en Zonnedek

De receptie heeft een modern nieuw uiterlijk gekregen en bevindt zich direct bij de ingang van het schip, op het bovendek. Dit is overigens de middelste van de drie. Daarboven zit het Zonnedek en eronder het Benedendek.  Fijn is dat alle drie de dekken bereikbaar zijn door een lift. Het zonnedek heeft mooie stoelen en ligbedden. Op de foto’s zie je ook de fietsen staan die je per dag kunt huren om er in een haven op uit te trekken.

Lounge & restaurant

Op het bovendek bevinden zich de hoofdfaciliteiten zoals het restaurant en de lounge. Het restaurant bevindt zich redelijk aan de achterkant van het schip, terwijl de lounge zich aan de voorkant bevindt met mooie uitzichten en grote glaspartijen. In het restaurant wordt het ontbijt in buffetvorm gepresenteerd en de lunch gedeeltelijk aan tafel en ook in buffetvorm. Het diner wordt aan tafel geserveerd.  De lounge heeft geheel nieuw meubilair gekregen en is de plek om bij elkaar te komen voor gezellige uurtjes met live-muziek.

De hutten zijn over twee dekken verdeeld, allen met een behoorlijk groot raam. Elke hut (op een paar voordeel-hutten na) heeft een nieuwe kast, legplanken en soms een nieuw bureautje in dezelfde kleur gekregen. De badkamers zijn gelijk.

De Allegro vaart dwars door heel Nederland en een aantal maal door Duitsland. “Ik vind zelf de route rondom het IJsselmeer fantastisch en dan vooral Texel!” zegt kapitein Peter. Met zijn Friese achtergrond is het varen in Friesland altijd weer mooi. Toch trekt ook de Duitse Moezel met haar landschap: “Vooral Bernkastel is een aanrader!”

Update 2020: Inmiddels is het schip niet meer in de vaart voor passagierscruises.

Tot nu prima service gehad van stipreizen.Al mijn cruise vakanties tot nu toe via Stipreizen geboekt. Hele leuke en gezellige cruise geboekt via Stipreizen. Wat mij opviel is dat ze altijd telefonisch te bereiken waren voor welke vraag dan ook en je werd meteen geholpen indien nodig. Wat ik heel fijn vond was dat we alles ook per mail kregen en wij alleen wat tickets en informatie moesten uitprinten. Ook was ik mijn jas met huissleutels vergeten met een dagtrip in de bus, en die wordt mij netjes toegezonden. Heel erg tevreden !

Prijsverhoging

Cruise geboekt volgens de site voor een bedrag van €3.050. Aanbetaling gedaan van €1.068. Een dag later is de prijs verhoogd naar ruim €4.600. Cruise geannuleerd en verzocht om aanbetaling te retourneren. Dit kan wel 2 weken duren. Betaling binnen 1 minuut geregeld maar terugboeking kan wel 2 weken duren. Vreemd!!!

visum voor Dominicaanse Republiek. Cruisewinkel kan geen transfers boeken.

Op vliegveld Frankfurt bleek dat wij geen toegangsvisum voor de Dominicaanse Republiek van Cruisewinkel hebben ontvangen. We hebben deze alsnog moeten kopen voor € 50 per persoon. Aan boord bleek dat voor al onze medereizigers een transfer naar het vliegveld was geboekt. Cruisewinkel kon dat niet. Waarom niet?

Gewoon goed geregeld

Wederom een reisje F1 geboekt, nu met een cruise tussen het bezoeken van 2 stuks F1 evenementen in. Duidelijke reisomschrijving, mooie locaties....... Na 3 eerdere ervaringen weet ik dat dit ook weer super georganiseerd zal zijn. Altijd goede hotels, een leuke feestavond en een geweldige reisleiding. Ook de lokale medewerkers staan voor iedereen klaar. Dus gewoon top.

Mooie reis. Bedankt daarvoor. Aandachtspunten: De reis was twee weken voor vertrek gepland. S’morgens betaald s’middags al een waarschuwing. Dat voelt niet prettig. Driemaal dezelfde mail voor vertrek. Voor een persoon drie instapkaarten en voor de partner niets. Diverse aanpassingen met de vlucht. Zowel heen als terug.

All inclusive in woord en daad

De booking is snel gegaan. De documenten hebben we op tijd gekregen en telefonisch is stipreizen goed bereikbaar. Fijn dat er een aanspreekpunt is in het nederlands op het schip zelf. Het is echt all inclusive geweest, dus we hoefden ons geen zorgen te maken om dingen die nog geregeld moesten worden.

Website not clear about steps

I filled out all the information to make a booking and then when I went to the payment part (betalen), it said there was some mistake. Then I had to filled out info again and it said you had already received my reservation and that I could not double book. It was strange cause I got no confirmation email nor was I able to pay. I tried this several times. So I proceeded to book with a different company. 5 hours later I get an email from you sending the invoice. Fortunately I managed to cancel the other booking (their site is more user friendly and informed me in every step what was going to happen, for instance, that first I would receive a confirmation email and then I will be able to pay). Your website should be clearer on the steps (fill out passenger info, then you get confirmation email with your booking, then you get invoice). Not sure why you have the payment option when you cant pay until you get invoice by email. It confuses the client thinking there is a problem. Thanks, Cinthia

Moscow to Sergiev Posad: the ultimate day trip guide

Due to the current situation, I advice against travel to Moscow and Sergiev Posad in Russia at the moment. All affiliated links related to Russia have been removed. But I have decided to keep my posts about Russia as it remains a beautiful country. I hope that circumstances change and that travel is possible again in the near future.

Sergiev posad is one of the most interesting day trips from Moscow . Getting from Moscow to Sergiev Posad should not take more than 1.5 hours and it is very easy to arrange this day trip on your own without the need for an expensive tour.

Why visit Sergiev Posad?

Sergiev Posad is part of Russia’s golden ring . A circle of ancient Russian villages and towns near Moscow that played an important role in the development of the Russian state and the Russian Orthodox church. They are home to some of Russia’s oldest monasteries, churches and picturesque kremlins. 

The development of Sergiev Posad is closely linked with the 14th century Holy trinity Lavra of St Sergius, one of the most important monasteries in Russia. Within the Russian orthodox church, Sergiev posad is its spiritual center comparable with what the Vatican is for the Catholic church. 

The monastery is dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh. One of the most important saints in the Russian Orthodox church. He was a monk and spiritual leader that led a secluded and simple life. First he lived as a hermit in the forest, but soon other monks joined him. 

This is how the holy trinity lavra of St Sergius began. People settled nearby as well and that is how the town of Sergiev Posad started to grow. Although it is the only town within the golden ring that grew into a city, it still has a rural feel to it.

It’s a nice place with picturesque wooden homes and neoclassical buildings. My advice is to wander around a bit before you head to the monastery.

The best Things to do in Sergiev Posad

Holy trinity lavra of st sergius.

The most important thing to do in Sergiev Posad is of course the holy trinity Lavra of St Sergius . The Vatican of the Russian orthodox church and still one of the largest monasteries in Russia.

It started as simple cells in a forest where monks lived like hermits with Saint Sergius as their spiritual leader. He eventually made a small wooden church in 1337. The first stone cathedral was built in 1422, the year that St Sergius was declared a patron saint of Russia. Later, Ivan the Great, who ordered the construction of the most important churches at Moscow’s Kremlin , also built one at the Sergiev Posad monastery. 

More churches and buildings were added in the following centuries and for a long time it was the wealthiest monastery in the country. It was closed for a short time by the Soviet government, but eventually Stalin tolerated the church and handed it back to the Russian Orthodox Church after the second World War. It is now a UNESCO World heritage site and an active place of worship. 

It’s a must visit if you want to learn more about Russian Orthodoxy, but even if you are not into religion it is well worth a visit. The buildings of the monastery are beautiful, the frescoes inside some of the churches are impressive and it is always busy with monks and priests walking around.

Watching a Russian orthodox mass was a magical experience. The singing of the monks and the people praying in devotion made me feel humble.    

Konniy dvor museum complex

I must be honest that after my visit to the monastery, that took much longer than I anticipated, I didn’t have much time left to see the Konniy Dvor museum complex . Therefore I can’t say whether it is worth a visit. It is home to the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve with a collection of ancient Russian art. 

Sergiev Posad is a somewhat touristy town and there are other museums as well. Such as the toy museum, the soap museum and the museum of peasant life. To be honest, they sounded a bit like a tourist trap to me and I didn’t look for them.  

Blinnaya hill

Pancake hill once had the best pancakes in Sergiev Posad, but is now famous for the best panorama view on the St Sergius monastery. It is on the way when you walk from the train station to the monastery and hard to miss. 

Chernigovski monastery

About an hour walk away (or a quick taxi ride) from the trinity lavra of St Sergius is the Chernigovski monastery . It is not as scenic as the St Sergius monastery and a relatively new monastery founded in 1847. However, it is unique because of its hand dug prayer caves. 

Wooden homes

Sergiev posad is not a bad town to walk around in. It is mostly low rise wooden homes and neoclassical buildings. If you like to see some of Russia’s traditional wooden houses you are sure to find some colorful gems in Sergiev Posad. 

Buy souvenirs

Sergiev Posad is a good place to buy souvenirs. Near the monastery is a small souvenir market with the standard Russian souvenirs (shawls, matroshka dolls, tshirts).

Look out for the old Russian ladies selling homemade jams (berries and even pinecone) and pirozhki’s. The latter are filled buns with potato, cabbange or meat. A delicious snack.

Where to eat in sergiev posad.

Monastery canteen : It’s very cheap to eat at the monastery’s own canteen where I had traditional Russian herbal tea and blini’s with walnuts and honey as an afternoon snack. 

Varenichnaya no.9 : Sergiev Posad has a decent number of places to eat. If you are on a budget I can recommend Varenichnaya 9 . I had a delicious lunch here with mushroom soup and vareniki with sour cream. Everything was of good quality with fresh ingredients and the prices were very reasonable.

How to get from Moscow to Sergiev Posad

The easiest way to get from Moscow to Sergiev Posad is by train. I recommend taking one of the frequent commuter trains that leave almost every hour from Moscow’s Yaroslavsky train station. You can buy tickets at the counter on the day of departure and it takes about 1.5 hours. 

There are also less frequent express trains to Aleksandrov that take 1 hour, but you need to book tickets in advance online. 

It is also possible to travel from Moscow to Sergiev Posad by bus, although the congested traffic in Moscow means that this is not the most convenient option.

Bus no.388 leaves from the VDNKH metro bus station and the journey takes between 1 to 2 hours depending on the traffic. The bus will drop you at the Sergiev Posad train station where you can also find a bus to go back to Moscow. 

When to visit Sergiev Posad

Sergiev Posad is a year round destination. I visited in winter and even though it was cold, the snow only made it more picturesque.

Where to stay from Moscow to Sergiev Posad

Where to stay in moscow.

Hostels Rus : Hostels Rus stand for clean and professional hostels with a mix of dormitories and a limited number of double rooms for good prices. They are often located close to one of the Moscow metro stations making travel in Moscow easy. There is one near Kurskaya and one near Paveletskaya (dorms only).

Vinegret hostel : Vinegret hostel is a clean and nice budget hostel with an excellent location in the heart of Moscow. It is right near Arbatskaya metro station on the famous arbat street. From there you can walk to the red square in only 30 minutes.

Axel hostel : Axel hostel has great budget dormitories with lots of privacy. It has a central location within walking distance of Kitay Gorod.

Where to stay in Sergiev Posad

Hostels Rus : Hostels Rus is one of the few hostels in Sergiev Posad. It has clean dormitories and double rooms. It’s a great budget option, but a bit far from everything. That said, it is still within walking distance from the trinity monastery.

Guest house Shishkina : If you have a bit more money on your hands I can recommend the centrally located Guest house Shishkina. The lovely double rooms are still reasonably priced for Sergiev Posad.

Stip Reizen can now also be booked by retailers

From now on, the offer of Stip Reizen can also be booked by travel agents, such as Formula 1 trips and cruises. They receive the regular commission for this.

This was stated by Rutgher Verstrepen, Sales Manager Retail at Corendon, on Friday during the second Airport Event at the Corendon Hotel at Schiphol. During these small-scale meetings, travel agents are updated on destinations and hotel offerings, with presentations from Acoya Hotels, the Curaçao Tourist Board Europe, Rotana Hotels, By June and Iberostar.

Stip Reizen (founded in 2008) has been part of Corendon since 2016 and distinguishes itself with F1 trips and competitively priced cruise offers, among other things. In response to demand from the retail sector, it has been decided to open up the sale of the Stip product to travel agents as well. Agents can make the booking via the Stip website, after which they still need to email their reservation number. The head offices will be informed about this in more detail. Part of the Stip offer will remain bookable under Corendon.

The same way of working also applies to the offer of By June (formerly Karin’s Choice), small-scale holidays with a flight, accommodation and rental car as standard. ‘By June is an advisory product that is very suitable for retail,’ says Verstrepen.

Alanya Alanya is this year’s retro destination for Corendon. The seaside resort on the Turkish Riviera can be reached directly from Schiphol Airport via Alanya-Gazipasa Airport. Alanya is cheaper than Antalya, with a price difference of 15 to 20 percent.

Curaçao is an important, if not the most important long-haul destination for Corendon, with five direct flights a week from Schiphol. Acoy Curaçao near Mambo Beach is an important hotel partner of Corendon on the island, says Sander Langeveld (GlobActive) who represents the hotel.

By June is also expanding its offer in Curaçao. By June’s tours, formerly known as Karin’s Choice, include small-scale accommodations away from the crowds and always include flight and rental car. “The owner is central to our accommodations,” says Yuri Deutekom (product manager/business development). By June now has offers to nine destinations, many of which are in Greece (Crete, Corfu, Lefkas, Zakynthos and Lesbos), Spain, Portugal and Bonaire. The supply on Curaçao is increasing rapidly.

In the coming week, there will be Airport Events in Eindhoven (22/4), Maastricht (22/4) and Rotterdam (23/4).
