How to Make Disney Luggage Tags
May 7, 2015 by Disney Cruise Mom 4 Comments
Today I want to share with you my homemade Disney luggage tags that I made a few years ago and use on every Disney trip. Here is what they look like on the front (left column) and back (right column):
I think it was before our second cruise that I decided I wanted to use real luggage tags on our luggage instead of the paper ones you grab at the airport while checking in. One day while I was at Target I looked at their luggage tags and was shocked at how expensive they were. They ranged from $4 to $20 EACH! This is not a big deal if you only need a couple, but I needed 10 (you will never see a blog post from me about packing light!) which was WAY more than I wanted to spend on luggage tags. I started thinking about cheaper options and I remembered seeing something on Facebook about a making your own luggage tags with a laminating machine. I already had this laminating machine and had used it a few times for other projects and knew it worked really well, so I just bought this luggage tag set and went to work.
I bought scrapbook paper from the craft store in glittery black, red and red/white polka dot (for the Mickey/Minnie designs on the backs of the tags), and I was also lucky to find 4 patterns of paper that included red, black, yellow and white designs which I used on the fronts of the tags. You want to be sure and use small patterns since the tags are small. I bought mine at a local scrapbooking store, but here are some that would also work:
Ek Success Mickey Decorative Paper Pad Pack
EK Success Mickey Mouse Black/White/Red Paper Pack, 10 Sheets
SandyLion Disney Mickey Mouse Paper Pack
For Mickey’s buttons, I used plain white paper and an oval hole punch that I already had. I can’t find one online, but you could also use a 1/2″ circle punch like this one .
Next I printed out our name, address and phone numbers on my computer (using the Walt font) and used my scrapbooking tools to cut & glue all of the tags together like you see in the pictures. It was pretty simple and didn’t take long at all! Then I placed each tag inside a laminating pouch and ran it through the machine. Done! WAY cheaper and WAY cuter than buying the plain ones at Target. I think these would make great fish extender gifts as well. Obviously you couldn’t put the person’s name and address on there, but you could put blank lines and let them write it on with a Sharpie, or they could just stick an address label on as well.
ETA: Since this post, I have made a second set of luggage tags using a slightly different method. You can read that post by clicking here .

What to pack for a disney cruise with free printable packing list.
Featured Post
LISBON CITY GUIDE
Walt disney world, accommodations, other theme parks, disney land, universal orlando, family cruising, disney cruise line, river cruising, cultural experiences, adventures by disney, relaxing beach destinations, everything else.
A cruise is unlike any other vacation. This list is perfect for guests who will be sailing on a warm weather itinerary such as the Caribbean, Bahamian .
I have laid out your must-haves, added a few things that we think are totally worth bringing onboard any cruise, PLUS items that you will find a great addition to your Disney cruise such as pirate night apparel and stateroom magnets too!
I have also created a handy free Disney Cruise Packing List Printabl e that you can download and print so you can refer to it as you pack.
Passports/ Birth Certificates – Technically if you are doing a closed-loop cruise (leaving and returning to the United States) you are allowed to board with a birth certificate. But I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you bring a passport. This will make it so much easier if any issues arise when you are in port. Make sure you check expiration dates. See Disney’s policies here
Cruise Documentation – Make sure to print and sign your online check-in forms and bring them with you.
DCL Issues Luggage Tags- Disney will mail you special Disney Cruise Line luggage tags. Attach these to your luggage on embarkation day they will allow the porters to deliver your luggage to your stateroom.
Medical Insurance Card- always good to have in case of emergency
Travel Insurance Info – I think you should always add insurance to a cruise. The cancellation policies are not as lenient as other types of travel and weather is poised to affect the majority of your vacation as opposed to just arrival and departure. Bring your policy with you!
Cash/ Credit Cards- for when in port
Cell Phones + charger- You will use Disney’s Navigator App to see what is going on around the ship and plan your vacation. It sucks up a ton of battery so bring chargers + a portable charger (which Showcase the World Travel provides with every booking)
iPads/ Tablets/ Kindles
Headphones (+headphone splitter) – for entertainment.
Camera + charger + extra batteries + extra memory card – you will be making memories on your vacation that will last longer with photographs . You will want to have slightly higher quality photos than what you can take with a cell phone.
Medications/ Prescriptions- It is always good to have a few over the counter medications like tylenol, benadryl and a cold medicine to avoid paying cruise line prices. Also make sure you pack motion sickness remedies. It is my belief if you have it you won’t need it.
When I travel I typically aim to pack 1.5 outfits per person per day, but cruising is a little different. You are constantly changing after a long day of activities for your casual dinner. So when I pack for a cruise I pack.
Shirts- enough for one clean shirt each day.
Shorts- we pack 2-3 for a 7-night cruise usually. I would pack more for my boys usually but they end up being in swim trunks most of the time.
Slacks/Jeans/Trousers- It is always good to have one pair as it can be cold at dinner, in the theaters, and outside on the decks at night.
Sundresses- I usually pack a few casual dresses to wear with flip flops for daytime and a few that I can dress up with some sandals for dinner. Just be sure to have some sort of shawl or cardigan to throw on at night.
Swimsuits/ Cover Ups- I HATE putting on a wet bathing suit so I always pack more than I need. I usually pack 3-4.
Underwear- enough for one clean pair of undies a day.
Pajamas- I usually pack enough pjs for half of the number of nights for the trip. Pack at least one cute pair if you plan to attend Goofy’s PJ party.
Light jacket or sweater- it gets cold in the dining rooms, theaters, and out on the decks in the evening so make sure to pack a lightweight jacket, scarves, shawls, and/or sweaters to keep you warm. A denim jacket always makes its way into my suitcase.
Shoes- You are going to want flip flops for the pool, sneakers for adventures in port, walking sandals, flats or dressy sandals for dinner. Always pack a few extra pairs for the kids in case they get wet. Water shoes are probably a good idea.
CRUISE ESSENTIALS
Lanyard – I saw this on all of the packing lists I read before my first cruise. I dismissed it because I hate lanyards and I regretted it every moment of my vacation. Hopefully DCL will switch over to magic bands soon but until then bring a lanyard.
Reusable Water Bottle – The cups provided at the beverage stations are tiny. Minimize your trips to the station by bringing a large reusable bottle.
Sunscreen – you will need lots and lots of sunscreen and you will NOT want to purchase it onboard unless you are independently wealthy.
Sun hat/Protection
Alcoholic Beverages – save some money by bringing your own adult beverages. Disney cruise line allows you to bring 2 unopened bottles of wine or 6 bottles of beer on board per cruise. If you get off the ship and load up on your Mom’s favorite Mexican cream tequila then they will hold it for you until disembarkation (not that I know that from experience)
Goggles/ SandToys- Not a necessity but could entertain your children and save you some money if they see them on board and need them
Magnetic Hooks – the stateroom walls are magnetic, bring some hooks to put by the door to hold your lanyards, bring magnetic clips for jewelry, the possibilities are endless.
I don’t think anything in this category really needs an explanation, but if you aren’t sure why you should pack deodorant let’s chat!
Toothbrush/Toothpaste – for some reason I ALWAYS forget toothpaste
Moisturizer
Skincare/Makeup
Contacts/ Solution/ Backup Glasses
Princess Dresses (or other character costumes) – If your child is looking forward to meeting a character it is so fun to bring an outfit so they can dress like them. If your little girl is going to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique you can save some money by bringing your own costume for her to wear to the princess brunch. Visiting during Star Wars or Marvel Day at Sea? Throw the jedi and superhero costumes in there too.
Pirate Attire – Another surprise I had onboard my first Disney cruise was just how in to Pirate Night people got. I obviously had heard about it, packed a t-shirt with Red from Pirates of the Caribbean on it and called it good. Even with my shirt I felt SO underdressed. So when it comes to Pirate Night… Go Big!!
Magnetic Door Decor – One of the things I love about a Disney cruise is that so many people get excited about decking out their stateroom door. You can get magnets of your favorite characters or your names to set your room apart. A great bonus is that it makes it easy to find.
Dry Erase Board- A Dry Erase board is a great way to communicate at sea. Put it outside the room to meet new friends or to let your family know you went to the spa for the afternoon.
Autograph Book – Just like the Disney parks your favorite characters are out and about willing to sign an autograph for you. Make sure you have a book, notebook or another way to capture it.
Pins for Trading – if you like pin trading in the parks you will love trading on the ship, bring pins
Movie Snacks – The only snacks that are not included in the price of your cruise is the individually packaged movie snacks outside the theatre. Save some money and bring your own twizzlers and goobers.
What not to pack is almost as important as what to pack. Disney is constantly updating their restrictions to what is allowed onboard.

My daughter got an adorable Disney suitcase for her birthday, and I decided that our generic luggage tags just wouldn’t cut it.
So, like any crafty, Disney-obsessed mama, I made her a luggage tag! And of course, I wanted to match my little travel buddy, so I made myself one too!
It was SO easy, and turned out SO cute! And I cannot wait to teach you how to make your own Faux Leather Luggage Tags using the Cricut Maker and the brand new Cricut EasyPress Mini !
Faux Leather is one of my very favorite Cricut accessories to use with my machine.
Note: these Cricut instructions will work to make any set of leather luggage tags (not just Disney).
HERE’S A SHORTCUT: I’ve even found a way to link you right to the project so you don’t have to redo all my design work. You can simply customize the finished project! Just click the button below (must have Cricut Design Space login):
If you’re brand new to working with Iron-On vinyl, check out THIS TUTORIAL where I teach you how to make a custom t-shirt and teach you everything you need to know about Iron-On!
Want to know more about the EasyPress Mini ? I’ve got you covered in THIS post . Consider it your go-to guide for the cutest heat press on the market!
Let’s jump right in!
TABLE OF CONTENTS
- Getting Started
Preparing Your Materials
Creating your design, cutting your design, applying your design, getting started.
Supplies Needed:
- Cricut Maker
- Cricut Faux Leather
- Iron-On Vinyl
- HeatnBond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive
- Light or Standard Grip Mat
- Strong Grip Mat
- Masking Tape or Painters Tape
- Weeding tool
- EasyPress Mini
- EasyPress 2
- EasyPress 2 Mat
- Cricut BrightPad (optional)
- Towel or teflon sheet (optional – if you don’t have an EasyPress 2 Mat)
Skill level: Intermediate Time Estimate: 40-60 min
Video Overview: Watch This First!
- Cut 2 squares of Cricut Faux Leather to 12” x 12”.
- Cut 1 square of HeatnBond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive to 11.5” x 11.5”.
- Plug in your Cricut EasyPress 2 and turn it ON. Set the temperature to 280 degrees. The GO button will glow orange, showing you that the machine is preheating.
- Make sure your surface is firm and flat — NOT an ironing board or carpeted floor. Protect your surface with the EasyPress 2 mat (or a teflon sheet or towel).
- When your machine beeps and the GO button changes from orange to green, it is ready to use!
- Place on square of Faux Leather right side down on your surface. Position your square of HeatnBond on the wrong side of the Faux leather., and make sure the paper liner side is up… Check it… then double check it!
- TIP: If your design is bigger than your EasyPress 2, you may need to do this in sections.
- Wait a minute or so, until the liner is cool enough to handle and gently peel it back, away from the Adhesive and Vinyl.
- Place the second square of Faux Leather against the exposed HeatnBond (wrong side down).
- Place the EasyPress 2 on top of your Faux Leather. Hold the EasyPress 2 in place for about 15 seconds. Apply firm pressure. Do this in sections, if necessary!
- The bond may not feel very secure while the Iron-On Adhesive is still warm. To help the bond secure, you can place this leather/adhesive sandwich under something heavy (like a cookie sheet and books) while you move on until the next step. It should be one secure piece before you cut it!
- NOTE : This project contains 2 licensed images that are found within Cricut Design Space. You will be prompted to purchase them for a couple of dollars each, when you CUT your design.
- Adjust the SIZE or COLOR of any layers, if you like.
- Double click the NAME text to open a text box.
- Edit the NAME.
- Double click the NUMBER text to open a text box.
- Edit the NUMBER.
- Select both layers and ALIGN them HORIZONTALLY.
- With both layers still selected, DUPLICATE them.
- Next, ATTACH your text layers.
- Place your Iron-On vinyl and Faux leather onto your mat, aligning it with the grid. The glossy side of the vinyl goes DOWN.
- Tape down your Faux Leather on all 4 sides.
- Make sure your Fine Point Blade is in the machine.
- Turn your Cricut Maker on.
- Load your first mat (The cut-out arrow goes in first).
- Click MAKE IT at the top right of your screen.
- CHECK the “MIRROR” option. (Iron-On and Faux leather are cut on the wrong side of the vinyl so it will look correct when adhered to your material).
- NOTE : You will have to adjust this one at a time, just before each mat is cut. So be prepared to jump back on your computer mid-cutting…
- Verify your blade and mat are loaded correctly.
- Press the GO button on your Cricut Maker.
- Watch the magic happen!
- Check the leather BEFORE removing the mat to make sure the cut went all the way through. If necessary, repeat the cut by pressing the GO button. If the cut is good, remove the mat and continue.
- TIP : the Cricut Bright Pad makes seeing delicate cut lines SO easy!
- Plug in your Cricut EasyPress Mini and turn it ON. Pressing the power button once will set your EasyPress Mini to LOW, which is what you want. The power button and temperature indicator will glow orange, showing you that the machine is preheating.
- Make sure your surface is firm and flat — NOT and ironing board or carpeted floor. Protect your surface with the EasyPress 2 mat (or a teflon sheet or towel, if you do not have one).
- Preheat your leather for 5 seconds! This step is super important!
- Position your vinyl design where you want it to go on your luggage tag, and make sure the shiny liner side is up… Check it… then double check it!
- Place the EasyPress Mini on top of your vinyl. Set a timer for 10 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to the EasyPress Mini and move it gently and slowly while it does it’s job!
- Depending on your choice of Iron-On Vinyl, you will need to remove the liner when it is warm or cold. Check our chart to make sure you do it correctly!
- TIP : If the liner doesn’t lift easily, reheat the design for a few seconds and try again.
- For designs with multiple layers of vinyl (like the Minnie bow and dots), apply the dots AFTER applying the red bow and removing the liner. Make sure all previously applied vinyl is covered by heat-protecting liner, so it doesn’t melt.
- Apply the vinyl with your name and number on the back side of the tag using the same process.
- ENJOY your creation!

How does luggage work on a Disney cruise?
When it comes to luggage on a Disney cruise, it’s important to understand the baggage policy to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience. Each passenger is allowed up to two checked bags, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds each. Additionally, guests are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item, such as a purse or backpack. It’s important to pack essential items in your carry-on bag, as checked bags may take a few hours to be delivered to your stateroom. To make the process even easier, Disney offers a convenient luggage service that allows guests to check their bags at the airport and have them delivered directly to their stateroom. Familiarizing yourself with the Disney cruise baggage policy will help you pack efficiently and enjoy your vacation to the fullest. For more detailed information, please refer to Disney Cruise Line’s official website: https://disneycruise.disney.go.
Does everyone get luggage tags on Disney Cruise?
Luggage tags are an essential part of the Disney Cruise baggage policy. When you book your cruise, Disney will provide you with complimentary luggage tags that are specific to your voyage. These tags help the crew identify and deliver your bags to your stateroom upon boarding. It is important to attach the tags securely to your luggage, ensuring that all necessary information is clearly visible. Additionally, it is recommended to include a personal identification tag on your bags for added security. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and hassle-free process when it comes to your luggage on a Disney Cruise. For more information on Disney Cruise baggage policy, check out this comprehensive guide.
Does Disney Cruise go through your luggage?
Disney Cruise has a comprehensive baggage policy in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers. While security measures are in effect, the cruise line does not typically go through passengers’ luggage unless there is a specific reason to do so. However, it is important to adhere to the guidelines set forth by Disney Cruise, such as not packing any prohibited items and ensuring that all bags are properly tagged with the provided luggage tags. For more detailed information on Disney Cruise’s baggage policy and guidelines, please refer to their official website: https://disneycruise.disney.go.
How do you put luggage tags on a Disney cruise?
When preparing for a Disney cruise, it’s important to understand how to properly attach luggage tags to your bags. The process is simple and ensures a smooth embarkation. Before your trip, ensure that you have printed the necessary luggage tags provided by Disney. These tags should be affixed to each bag in a secure manner, ensuring they are visible and easily identifiable. It is crucial to include your full name, stateroom number, and ship name on each tag. Once attached, your bags will be collected by Disney Cruise Line porters and delivered directly to your stateroom. For more information on Disney Cruise Line’s baggage policy and instructions on how to attach luggage tags, visit [source link].
Disney cruise luggage weight
The Disney Cruise baggage policy allows each guest to bring two checked bags per person, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds each. Additionally, guests are allowed to bring a carry-on bag and a personal item, such as a purse or backpack. It is important to note that these weight limits may vary depending on the specific cruise line and itinerary. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, it is recommended to review the official Disney Cruise Line website for the most up-to-date information on baggage allowances and restrictions.
In summary, understanding the Disney Cruise baggage policy is crucial for a smooth and hassle-free vacation experience. By familiarizing yourself with the guidelines and restrictions, you can avoid any surprises or inconveniences during your trip.
First and foremost, it is essential to be aware of the baggage allowances provided by Disney Cruise Line. As mentioned earlier, each guest is allowed two checked bags, each weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as two carry-on bags. This generous allowance ensures that you can bring all the necessary items without worrying about exceeding the weight limits.
To ensure compliance with the policy, it is important to pack your bags carefully and efficiently. Organizing your belongings in a systematic manner not only saves space but also makes it easier for the security team to inspect your bags. Consider utilizing packing cubes or compression bags to maximize the available space and keep your items well-organized.
When it comes to prohibited items, Disney Cruise Line maintains a strict policy to ensure the safety and security of its guests. It is crucial to familiarize yourself with this list and refrain from packing any restricted items in your bags. Prohibited items include firearms, explosives, flammable materials, and illegal substances. Additionally, certain items like drones, hoverboards, and other recreational vehicles are not allowed on board.
For guests who require special assistance or have unique circumstances, Disney Cruise Line offers a range of services to accommodate their needs. Whether it’s mobility devices, medical equipment, or dietary requirements, the cruise line strives to make the vacation experience as comfortable as possible for all guests. It is advisable to contact the cruise line in advance to discuss any specific needs and make necessary arrangements.
During embarkation and disembarkation, it is important to have your bags properly labeled with the provided luggage tags. This ensures that your bags are delivered to the correct stateroom and are easily identifiable. It is also recommended to keep essential items like medications, travel documents, and valuables in your carry-on bags to have them readily available throughout the journey.
Lastly, it is worth noting that the Disney Cruise baggage policy may vary for different itineraries and destinations. Therefore, it is always prudent to double-check the specific guidelines for your particular cruise. The official Disney Cruise Line website serves as a valuable resource for up-to-date and accurate information regarding their baggage policy. Additionally, travel blogs and forums, such as Cruise Critic and The Dis, provide insights and firsthand experiences from fellow cruisers.
In conclusion, understanding and adhering to the Disney Cruise baggage policy is an important aspect of planning your vacation. By familiarizing yourself with the guidelines, organizing your belongings efficiently, and packing according to the restrictions, you can ensure a stress-free and enjoyable cruise experience. Remember to consult official sources and trusted travel websites for the most accurate and up-to-date information. With this comprehensive guide, you are now equipped with the knowledge to make the most of your Disney Cruise adventure. Bon voyage!

I haven't cruised in a while, but I'm pretty sure they come mailed to your address before the cruise. https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/...Cruise Line provide, the mail prior to sailing . here is a link to the DCL website with info about it
Ya, we've always gotten them in the mail, but this time we booked pretty late. I thought I'd just take care of it in case there wasn't enough notice to get them in the mail.

Disney does not do printed luggage tags like some other lines do. As Shmoo said you can get them at the port if they do not arrive to your home in time.

What if you are staying at a Disney Resort the night before and bags are picked up from your room? This is our situation and we haven't received luggage tags. Not sure how it will work as my thought is we won't even see our bags at the port.

I’m 2+weeks away from our next cruise. My TA said dcl is having issues with luggage tags because of the recent upgrade. If they don’t arrive, the porters will assist you with blank ones to fill in your cabin number.

We sail Thursday and still have not received them. MJ
The only thing we print out is our disembarkation luggage tag label. That way we dont have to write our name, address, etc on a bunch of tags. We just put a sticker on each tag and done.

Printable (and cute!) Disney World luggage tags
By: Author Shannon Albert
Published: October 12, 2016 Updated: April 21, 2022
One of the most fun parts of planning a Disney World trip is all of the chances to get creative. In this post, I have some Disney World luggage tags you can print out and laminate for your trip.
Consider using them for your luggage as you fly, park bags, or anything else you can think of.
Let’s take a look…
About Disney’s luggage tags
Before we dive into DIY Disney World luggage tags, I want to mention the ones that you might get in the mail.
There are 2 types of luggage tags you might get from Disney:
- If you’re using Magical Express , you’ll receive adhesive luggage tags in the mail to put on your bags. These are used to identify your luggage to the Magical Express team as your bags come out on the baggage carousel so the luggage handlers know to pick them up. These are not intended to be used like traditional luggage tags that have all of your contact information on them.
How to put the Disney World luggage tags together
To use the luggage tag designs shown below, I recommend getting self-laminating packages that are super easy to put together. These tag designs are 2″ x 4″ so get self-laminating kits that are at least 2.5″ x 4.5″ like this type on Amazon to allow for a bit of extra room around the border.
Either print them out double-sided so you’re just inserting one piece of paper, or print them out in one long strip so you can fold it and keep them aligned easily.
If you do the option shown above which requires you to fold the long piece in half, check the cut edge before laminating to make sure it’s even and you’ve eliminated any extra white border.
After your tag is printed, cut, and ready to laminate, put it on the non-adhesive side of the lamination kit tag…
Then unstick the adhesive side and attach it to close up the tag. Consider using something like a credit card to smooth it out as you seal it, so you can remove air bubbles.
