Lil Nas X's Custom Coach Concert Outfits Use 2 Million Rhinestones

Disco Daddy + Lil Nas X + Coach = ✨💎

Vincent Michael Braccia, the artist behind the rhinestone embellishments on some of Lil Nas X’s custom Coach tour ‘fits, is just as effervescent as his fashion moniker, Disco Daddy, suggests. After starting his brand in 2020, he’s made a name for himself “stoning” costumes for some of music’s biggest names. Braccia’s creations, worn by Lizzo, Joe Jonas, and Doja Cat, can include up to 500,000 rhinestones each, according to him, and weigh up to 20 pounds. While stoning a ‘fit, he’s been known to buy up all the rhinestones in the country, forcing him to find international suppliers. Adding Disco Daddy levels of bling is always a wild ride, and Lil Nas X’s tour ‘fits were no exception . In an exclusive conversation with Elite Daily, Braccia breaks down how he turned 2 million loose rhinestones into the detailing on some of the world’s coolest tour looks for one of music’s biggest baddies .

Lil Nas X finally embarked on Long Live Montero, his first tour, on Sept. 6. After watching him perform in New York on Sept. 20, I can tell you personally that it’s an out-of-this-world experience. thanks in large part to the costumes. The jaw-dropping looks were designed by Coach’s Creative Director, Stuart Vevers, in collaboration with Lil Nas X, and stoned by Braccia. Every ‘fit was fire, but his “Call Me By Your Name” outfit is the most dazzling of all. With over 350,000 stones, the butterfly crop top and jean-style pants could blind someone all the way in the nosebleed seats.

Long Live Montero isn’t the first Lil Nas X Disco Daddy Rodeo. In the past, the two have teamed up to create the rapper’s birthday outfit , a rhinestoned football uniform, as well as a sequined denim and tank top look . Ahead, Disco Daddy spills behind-the-scenes details on his experience adding embellishments to Lil Nas X’s tour ‘fits that will have your jaw on the floor.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Elite Daily: What story are you and Lil Nas X trying to tell with his current tour fashion?

Vincent Braccia: I was approached by Coach to do some embellishing for the outfits. I think they wanted to make a really bold statement for his first tour [and] really play into the queer references which I love — [it’s] very Disco Daddy.

ED: How many stones did you use to create Lil Nas X's ‘fits?

VB: I would say it has to be well over 300,000 in total for everything, if not 500,000, but I don't really count like that. It's wearable art, more like, "I think this goes here, and that doesn't belong there, so I'm going to take all of these off.” So there's not that much of a counting method that's happening. But it is well over 300,000.

ED: How many hours did you spend stoning all the tour ‘fits?

VB: We had about two and a half weeks to get everything done. Collectively with my team, it had to be well over 200 hours, I would say, per outfit.

ED: What was it like to develop the stone look for Lil Nas X? Was he involved in the creative process?

VB: For sure. When I was approached with the sketches, they were just a color reference. There were no direct colors given to me, so I got to get fabric swatches, lay down some ideas, let them know what I like, but also give options. Then they brought it to [Lil Nas X], and he and his team got to choose. There was a little bit of a back and forth, probably for a month, and then finally, we settled on an idea.

ED: Where did the inspiration come from?

VB: I think that the butterfly top and the denim is very early 2000s. It gives me Mariah, but also, my references are like Bob Mackie and Cher in the '70s so it's very that kind of little tiny top and a gorgeous, flowy, flouncy flare pant. So, yeah, those are my references, and they're stitched together.

ED: Can you talk us through how you came up with the pink football uniform-inspired look?

VB: Yeah, Lil Nas loves football, and I actually made his 23rd birthday party outfit . He wanted a football look, a football jersey that had his age on the back, and I think he kind of played off that [for] the tour costume. Then, we made all the dancer costumes with a varsity letter M for Montero and a little matching football short.

ED: How long did it take to make?

VB: Just his [costume] alone probably took about almost 200 hours. It's very hard to work with a stretch material like that, so you have to do it very meticulously and carefully and use a smaller size of stone, so that took a little bit longer than you would think it took. And, as I was doing it, I would send it to rehearsal and get feedback on it.

ED: I'm personally obsessed with the Y-leg white jean and crop top moment. Can you talk us through that look?

VB: Yeah. What I like to do with crystals is make them look as realistic as possible, so I have to create the shadows and the dimensions and the highlight that would normally be there. But when you add one color crystal to a whole pant, you lose all of that dimension. It’s just sparkly. That's what's most exciting for me. I got to build in the shadow of the pants, using dark browns and dark golds. Then, as you go up, it fades into a gradient of light golds, but also, where there would be a crease in the pant, I added a crease, and where the crotch would have shadowing, I did all that.

I've done this a few times. I actually did a very similar pair of jeans for him for a Vitamin Water campaign he did earlier this summer. With the butterfly top, it was the same thing because they wanted it to be more of an aura of a butterfly instead of like a prominent butterfly in the chest, so I got to kind of fade it in, fade it out, and made it just look really, really subtle.

ED: It's gorgeous. How many stones do you think that look took, and how long did it take?

VB: For the butterfly one, I would say about 350,000 rhinestones. I used so many different sizes, so there are some really, really baby ones on there. That one took the longest, for sure. Plus, with every tour, there's a duplicate outfit just in case anything happens, so I had to do it all over again. I would say that one total look — I did the top, the pants, the shoes, and the backpack that held the wings — was probably about 400 hours.

ED: What's your favorite look from the tour?

VB: Definitely that one. That was the one I was most excited about. Also, I felt like it was the easiest for me to show what I can do, have my little creative take on it, and get to use a bunch of different colors.

Lil Nas X wearing a concert outfit designed by Disco Daddy and Coach.

ED: With so many rhinestones, are any of these pieces very heavy to wear?

VB: Oh, that outfit has to be at least... I would say head to toe, it's probably about 20-ish pounds at least, which was a big factor in the rehearsal process, too. I told them ahead of time, just so everyone's prepared for choreography and movement and all of that, and I think they rehearsed with weights in the jeans just to prep him for that. Plus, I don't want any surprises, like, "Hey, I know you're rehearsing in sweatpants, but here are these 20-pound pants. Good luck!"

ED: It'd be shocking!

VB: Oh, yeah. Exactly, but I think as a top star who's traveling the world, that's what you want. [You want] to feel like you're wearing the best of the best. Handmade. That was the goal.

ED: And made with love, of course.

VB: Yeah, exactly. So much love.

ED: How did you and Lil Nas X get connected?

VB: We met through his stylist Hodo. I believe the first thing I did for him was a rhinestone microphone for his Saturday Night Live performance. I did one for Dua Lipa and that introduced me to [Hodo]. A lot of what I've done throughout my career is made outfits for me and my friends that showcase what I can do. I made something similar to the birthday outfit I made for him. I made myself a gold denim look and that inspired the gold denim look for this.

Lil Nas X wearing a concert outfit designed by Disco Daddy and Coach.

He's obviously the biggest queer pop star in the world right now, and what I do is very in line with that. It's for the stage, it's queer-centric, and it matches perfectly with his aesthetic, so it just made sense that we worked together.

ED: Was that, would you say, the most collaborative of the looks?

VB: I think probably the gold denim. From the beginning, they knew exactly what they wanted and I sent a lot of swatches of what I thought [would work]. We got to collaborate the most on that, all through Coach. It was a team effort of Coach involvement, brand ambassador involvement, and then Lil Nas' team. At the end of the day, I think everyone, including myself, loved what we came up with, and it was exactly what we wanted.

ED: Is there anything you learned about Lil Nas X that would surprise our readers?

VB: I don't know if I learned it or if it was necessarily a surprise, but I was really appreciative of how hard he was working on the tour. They were rehearsing 24/7. I was just a bystander, but it seemed like he had his hand in every part of the show. He wanted everything to be perfect, which totally makes sense, but I don't think that's the case for everyone. He was wholeheartedly invested in the show and the look, to the point of, “The length of the pants should be this, and this should fit like this, and I love this, and I want to move like this," which is smart as an artist. It's really helpful to know exactly what your client wants and then fulfill those needs. He's also super fun, and his online persona is exactly how he is, which I love. I met him at his birthday party, too, and it was a great experience.

ED: What was the weirdest request you got from him and or his team? Was there anything that was super out of the box?

VB: The thing is I am a can-do person, so if you ask me to do something, I'll do it. Honestly, the hardest thing that I had to work with was the timeline. Every question was like, "Oh, we would love to do this. Is it even possible?" I'm like, "Yeah, it's possible. Let's do it." Everything they asked was not without reason, and it was within my capabilities to do. It was just a very quick-moving process, and I'm glad that everything got done.

ED: What is, do you think, the highest number of stones you've ever used on any celebrity costume?

VB: On anything? Let's think. I definitely think well over half a million on a single thing. Probably, I work with Violet Chachki a lot , and her outfits are always above and beyond. But I actually think that even some stuff that I've made myself... I'm trying to think of something. I might say that this is probably the most, as far as the tour in general, definitely the most crystals I've used. On the dancers, his pink outfit, and his gold outfit were well over a million, I would say.

VB: Exactly. And then duplicates of everything, so that adds to 2 million. I had to buy rhinestones from so many different vendors because I was buying them out of their whole stock of rhinestones. The last order I had to get was from the U.K., because I think there were no more gold stones in the U.S.

ED: Wow. It's all Lil Nas X's fault.

VB: It is. There's a drought now.

ED: Do you have any advice for people that want to jazz up their own clothes with stones at home?

VB: Well, first of all, do it. That's how I got started. I would go to Michael's and buy a 12-pack of rhinestones. I grew up as a dancer, and I was always jealous that all the girl dancers got to have all of the sparkly costumes, so I would go spend $4 and buy some rhinestones and add them to myself. I learned from what I did, and it is just practice until it gets perfect, but I think clothing should always be a statement, and it should always represent you.

Vincent Michael Braccia aka Disco Daddy

I don't have any interest in being the most subtle person in the room or not being noticed, so I only want to make clothes that stand out, that people notice, that people want to take pictures of. Especially in today's day and age, it's so digital, and everyone's always filtering through life. You learn [about current events] on your phone, you see the concerts on your phone, you see everything on your phone, so having something be a standout moment and take over the internet with how gorgeous it feels nice, and I think everyone should strive for that.

ED: What's next for you?

VB: Oh, what's next? I did some things for Lizzo's tour so that'll be exciting. I want to actually do my new collection by the end of the year, and it's going to be really, really cool. It's a new, very '70s-inspired, very comfy, and gets some cool people in the campaign, so TBD. Can't say too much about it, but yeah, those are the next two things on the docket. I’ll also be trying to get into art — crystal art pieces and canvases and stuff like that — but I’ll always do clothing because I love it.

Lil Nas X’s Debut Tour Wardrobe Features Custom Codpieces and Football Pads

By Eileen Cartter

A sketch of Lil Nas X in a gold gladiator suit sits on a surface surrounded by pieces of the reallife gold costume

Lil Nas X , for all his chartopping in the nearly four years since he first posted “Old Town Road” to SoundCloud in late 2018, has never gone on a proper solo tour—that is, until last night, when he kicked off his debut Long Live Montero tour in Detroit. For the occasion, Nas premiered a custom wardrobe he created with the American fashion house Coach. It’s the latest in a long line fashion brands dressing famous musicians for their tours: think Harry Styles wearing custom Gucci for his Love on Tour dates, or Dua Lipa in custom Balenciaga, Mugler, and Dior for her Future Nostalgia run, or BTS clad in Kim Jones-designed Dior during their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour a few years back.

The merging of a heritage brand like Coach and a cowboy from outer space-meets -Adam-minus-Eve dancing with the devil pop star like Lil Nas X may seem like an odd pairing at first. But both Nas—known offstage as Montero Hill—and Coach are linked by their own potent brands of Americana.

Lil Nas X rehearses for his debut tour.

“Montero’s style is bold, and it’s boundary-breaking—and above all, it exudes confidence,” Coach creative director Stuart Vevers tells GQ via email. “The looks we created for the tour were not only inspired by that confidence he is known for, they were also made to tell different chapters of his story.” Vevers worked with Lil Nas X and his stylist Hodo Musa to build six bespoke outfits that “play on iconic references to American pop culture,” including a liberal use of the brand’s Signature monogram pattern. That, particularly, echoes hip-hop’s heritage of logomania , which the designer says they “juxtaposed in unexpected ways to show how Montero is creatively reimagining American pop culture today.”

And in any case, their link-up was pretty straightforward: “We’ve always been a fan of Montero and his approach to fashion that’s all his own—and he’s worn Coach before, and he always looks amazing,” Vevers said. “The creative conversations started and evolved from there.”

And though Nas didn’t ride out like a fabulous lone ranger on a Coach stagecoach, a leather Signature-monogrammed horse did eventually join him on stage. “Similar to my collections at Coach, Montero’s style explores familiar American touchstones like varsity and westernwear through the point-of-view of a new generation,” Vevers says. “The looks integrate our house codes, exploring references to American heritage, past, present and future with a sense of fluidity to tell Montero’s story of metamorphosis.”

A Coach press release notes that the tour is centered on Lil Nas X’s origin story, “from his beginnings to the fully realized version of himself—a story we hope inspires others. The acts within the performance show Montero at different stages of life and self-discovery, from birth, to childhood, to his emergence as an artist, to the full expression of who he is today.” Among them are a fuschia, crystal-encrusted padded football uniform and a gilded gladiator suit patterned with the Coach monogram, a slew of ones and zeros of binary code, and some tastefully abstract phalluses.

“It was a really fun and inspiring experience working with Stuart and the Coach team to create the looks for my first world tour,” Lil Nas X adds in the release. “They truly captured my vision, and everything ties together in the show perfectly. I can’t wait for everyone to see them.”

Working with Nas was enjoyable for Vevers, too. “Montero is someone I find really inspiring because he has courageously paved paths for others by expressing all of who he is,” he says. “Designing with him, that energy and sense of possibility is contagious, and a lot of fun.”

Long Live Montero: Lil Nas X’s L.A. Tour Stop Was a Vibrant, Unapologetically Queer Production

By Tomás Mier

Nothing — not even pre-show vomit — was going to stop Lil Nas X from putting on a phenomenal performance.

On Wednesday, Lil Nas X took the stage for the second of two sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater as part of his Long Live Montero Tour . In L.A., the musician — and his army of flawless dancers — shined through a powerful set full of storytelling, sparkling outfits , and impressive choreography, plus a cameo from special guest Saucy Santana .

Upon entering the venue, fans were handed playbills that outlined the show’s set list and foreshadowed the colorful visuals Nas would be using. The pamphlets and the gold accents around the stage were the first examples of how Lil Nas’ performance was more than a concert: This was a production , honey.

Ten minutes later, as the clock neared 10 p.m., the room darkened and the show began with the first of three acts: Revival.

A projection over a curtain told the audience that the “greatest thing a human can do is create,” before Nas — dressed in a golden crop top and matching pants — emerged on stage in front of a backdrop showing a colorful galaxy for his opening number, “Panini.”

“When I say I vomited, I wasn’t joking,” Nas said after the song, pointing to an emergency puke cup he kept near him. (He, thankfully, never had to use it.) “I already know this crowd is better than yesterday.”

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

What followed was a transition that depicted his rapid rise into fame. The visuals captured how Nas skyrocketed from a kid with a stan account (@NasMaraj) to the cowboy-hat-wearing viral star of “ Old Town Road. ” The end of the act, with Magic Mike-style choreo prior to “Rodeo,” seemed to symbolize that everything that came with his viral song was now part of his past.

What brought him to this stage is worth celebrating, but it’s no longer who he is.

Then came Act Two: Transformation, which, as a whole, served as a celebration of the unapologetic Black queer culture that Nas represents.

After opening with “Don’t Want It,” Nas and his dancers paid tribute to the ballroom scene, incorporating a vogue-filled dance break to “Pure/Honey” from Beyoncé’s Renaissance . The pause felt as a fitting homage to the queer people that came before him, while making clear that Nas is positioned in the present and future of the genre and culture.

The moment — aided by an interpolation of Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On” — served as one of the highlights of the show as he performed in front of the hell-looking visuals from his viral music video.

Hours before his show in L.A. on Wednesday, Nas joked on Twitter, “ i will be cumming on 3 lucky fans for my cum-on-a-fan contest.” On night two, he reminded the audience — while wearing two flowing butterfly wings in front of a heaven-like backdrop — that those tweets “were still valid.” Though there was no cum contest, the climax of night two came moments later, when he welcomed rapper Saucy Santana for a surprise performance of their yet-to-be-released collaboration “Down Souf Hoes.”

Back in June, Nas told Rolling Stone that being a queer, Black man in this industry “has been a real, steep, steep hill of just trying to gain that confidence to keep pushing,” but that “we always make it to that next round.” His show was proof of that.

The night fittingly ended with “Industry Baby” and an unexpected, laser-flecked encore, “ Star Walkin’, ” his most recent single. Amid a standing ovation, Nas walked offstage. As he left, a few words flashed on the screen behind him: “The end of the beginning.” His queer-as-hell show is proof that Lil Nas X has already transformed into a complete force, and inarguably the greatest queer artist of 2022.

15 of Lil Nas X's most daring outfits that show his unique style, from cowboy outfits to evening gowns

  • Lil Nas X is known for his memorable looks on the red carpet and during onstage performances.
  • The 23-year-old Grammy-winning musician pushes the boundaries of masculinity with his style.
  • From sparkles and dresses to cowboy ensembles, here are 15 of his most daring outfits.

Lil Nas X channeled Prince in neon green and zebra print on the red carpet for the 2019 American Music Awards.

Liz Nas X captivated the red carpet in a neon-green suit with a cropped blazer that had '80-style shoulder pads, which he told GQ was a Christopher John Rogers look inspired by the musician Prince .

According to his Instagram post on November 25, 2019, he was styled by his fashion director Hodo Musa . The suit was paired with a matching green-and-black zebra-print shirt and gloves, as well neon-green boots. She added a chunky hoop and a drop earring to accessorize the look.

Speaking to GQ about his style evolution, Lil Nas X said it was "one of my first outwards, colorful, flamboyant outfits."

At the 2019 BET Awards, Lil Nas X opted for a black-and-yellow take on his signature cowboy outfit.

Lil Nas X once again opted for a cowboy ensemble for the 2019 BET Awards, this time in black and yellow. The leather jacket had black-and-yellow sleeves, yellow fringe, and black stars leading to the collar. He wore matching yellow pants with cascading tassels, a black cowboy hat, and yellow snakeskin boots.

He posted an Instagram photograph of the outfit in June 2019 alongside Rihanna with a caption that read: "Star struck."

He brought the heat to the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival in a blue leather outfit complete with flames.

Wearing a sky-blue leather waistcoat, pants, and sneakers with handpainted red and yellow flames, Lil Nas X once again coordinated his look from top to bottom. According to the Los Angeles Times, Musa said the custom designs were from Freak City L.A.,  and said of the brand: "They always provide fun patterns and fits."

Switching to more muted tones, Lil Nas X played with different textures at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.

Lil Nas X made fashion history for the designer Christian Cowan when he became the first man to be dressed in Cowan's designs , according to one of the brand's August 2019 Instagram posts. The singer wore a custom silver sequin suit with a cropped jacket and straight-cut pants.

Beneath the jacket, he wore a cream-colored lace shirt with a raised collar and draping sleeves, also by Cowan. He completed the look with silver cowboy boots and a silver serpent earring.

The singer continued his commitment to monochrome in a pink cowboy outfit for the 2020 Grammy Awards.

In head-to-toe hot pink, Lil Nas X made a statement at the 2020 Grammy Awards and nodded to the cowboy-themed music video for his 2019 song, "Old Town Road." According to the Los Angeles Times, the cropped leather jacket and pants with gold studs and the matching cowboy hat were custom Versace designs.

He heightened the look by adding a harness and mesh top, pointed pink cowboy boots, and a Versace scarf wrapped around his wrist. According to his stylist Musa, the "beautiful collaboration" came about because she was drawn to the Italian fashion house's previous work with 1990s hip-hop artists.

Speaking to GQ in the magazine's style evolution video, Lil Nas X described the look as "probably the most gay cowboy look of all time."

Lil Nas X opted for cascading curls with a green-and-coral snakeskin suit for the 2020 Billboard Music Awards.

Once again wearing a leather two-piece with a shirt underneath, Lil Nas X attended the 2020 Billboard Music Awards in a green-and-black snakeskin suit with coral-pink detailing around the sleeves and lapels of his blazer.

According to Popsugar, the suit was a Gucci design . He paired it with a pale-green pussy-bow shirt, black boots, orange oversized sunglasses, and a number of rings. The look was yet another outfit that was reminiscent of Prince, especially as the singer wore a hairpiece that hung over his left eye.

At Variety's Hitmakers Brunch 2021, Lil Nas X kept it simple with a white monogrammed suit and a dramatic plunge top.

The monogrammed white satin suit, consisting of an oversized blazer and kick-flare pants, was a Balmain design , according to Vogue. Lil Nas X wore the blazer open with a dramatic plunge top that had cross-body straps, a dazzling silver chain necklace, and Rick Owens black platform boots, Vogue reported.

He added a touch of silver to his nails, as well as a silver ring and earrings.

With a burst of yellow and peach feathers, Lil Nas X opted for high drama for the 2021 LACMA Art+Film Gala presented by Gucci.

The singer wore a monogrammed yellow Gucci suit with peach feathers on the blazer's forearm to the annual event. He also wore a peach shirt with a silver chain necklace, a butterfly ring, and a matching earring, as well as two-tone brown Gucci loafers.

Sticking to sparkles and a suit, Lil Nas X opted for darker hues at the GQ Men of the Year Celebration 2021.

While being honored as one of GQ's Men of the Year 2021 cover stars , Lil Nas X attended the event in November wearing a black-and-silver glittery suit while shirtless.

According to Popsugar, the singer wore five-inch platform boots by Rick Owens, as well as oversized black sunglasses, silver rings, and butterfly earrings. The look appeared to be a sleeker take on his usual playful style.

He dazzled in an iridescent-silver suit with a tiny Telfar handbag at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Lil Nas X opted for another striking suit tailored to give an '80s silhouette. The singer wore the iridescent-silver blazer and pants with no shirt, a tiny Telfar bag, and matching white platform boots.

He matched the suit with a touch of white nail polish and silver eyeshadow as well as a pair of silver spike earrings.

The singer blurred the lines between masculine and feminine at the Video Music Awards 2021, in a long wig and a lilac pantsuit with a dress detail on one side.

In his GQ style evolution video, Lil Nas X said the purple suit-dress hybrid with embellishments was a Versace design. "This was a fun one. It looks really hot, sexy, spicy. That's Versace," he said of the garment, which appeared to be a dress from some angles and a pantsuit on the other side.

Wearing an '80s-style wig complete with bangs and matching lilac boots, the star rocked a memorable red-carpet ensemble from head to toe.

According to Vogue, the singer arrived on the red carpet in a dramatic Andrea Grossi gown with an off-the-shoulder blazer bodice, as styled by Musa.

Vogue reported that the blue toile print on white material touched on themes of Catholicism that Lil Nas X addressed in his 2021 song, "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)."

In his GQ video, he said: I went to the BET awards bathroom and changed in like two minutes and like had to do it really fast and then run back out before the show started and I had to go and get ready to perform."

Later the same evening, Lil Nas X changed into an embellished suit with florals and flares.

lil nas x tour outfits

Once again selecting a suit with gemstones and silver detailing, he said in his GQ video that it was a Richard Quinn design.

"This came out really nice. It was probably the heaviest outfit I've ever worn," he said. The white suit had a pink-and-red rose pattern with green leaves, short but wide lapels on the blazer, and fluted sleeves and pants.

He also joked: "That was not comfortable but it was definitely worth it. Very much hard to walk in and I almost fell like a million times but at least I look good."

Lil Nas X had a regal moment in a gold floor-length cape at the 2021 Met Gala celebrating the theme "In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion."

lil nas x tour outfits

He opted for three outfits at the 2021 Met Gala, arriving on the red carpet in a dramatic gold cape enhanced by silver-and-gold beading, raised shoulders, and a high collar.

The singer reflected on the Versace look, again styled by Musa, in his GQ style evolution video. "This was a moment," he said of attending his first-ever Met Gala.

"I feel like I really actually just went out there and smashed it, not to toot my own horn," he said, adding that it was one of the greatest weekends of his life.

He took off his gold cape at the 2021 Met Gala to reveal a gold bodysuit that looked like a robotic suit of armor.

lil nas x tour outfits

Lil Nas X's metallic-gold suit of armor was his second of three outfits at the 2021 Met Gala but this look had a more futuristic aesthetic. The musician told GQ: "Those golden abs, I look like a superhero." According to the video, fans likened the look to the "Star Wars" character C-3PO.

He also later changed into another embellished-gold catsuit to complete his outfit changes for the night. Lil Nas X told GQ the Met Gala was his favorite red carpet to date. He said: "I'm going to remember that Met Gala, that was super fun."

Lil Nas X Says Wearing a Skirt on Tour Helped Him 'Set My Younger Self Free'

In this week's issue of PEOPLE, the singer opens up about his style evolution, life on tour and starring in a new Coach campaign video

lil nas x tour outfits

Lil Nas X is breaking down stereotypes, one bedazzled outfit at a time.

Since he first shot to fame with his hit "Old Town Road" in 2019, the Atlanta-bred singer has slayed everywhere from the runway at New York Fashion Week to the red carpet at the Grammys , with his style noticeably taking an even more bold and unabashed turn after he publicly came out as gay in the months following his debut.

"Style is a form of self-expression," Lil Nas X tells PEOPLE in this week's issue. "It's a way to show people who you are, or at least how you want them to perceive you. I feel like to get further in life, you have to shed skins and do things that you normally wouldn't."

Despite his confidence, Lil Nas X, 23, admits he felt a twinge of insecurity before his recent tour stop in his hometown.

"I was really nervous about going out on stage in front of my family and everybody in my cute, little Coach skirt," he says. "But as soon as I walked out, I felt like I was setting my younger self free. Afterwards, my family — a lot of whom used to believe in everything opposite to what's up on that stage — told me they were really proud. I feel like I'm changing some minds."

Though Lil Nas X says his personality has remained "the same" since his pre-fame days — "I was always the goofy class clown," he cracks — he now feels a "lot more ambitious and unafraid to go after my dreams."

"I'm less afraid to step out of my comfort zone," he says. "Lil Nas X is helping Montero become more himself. Music has made me much more confident."

So much so that not even a group of anti-LGBTQ protestors could rain on Lil Nas X's parade when they appeared outside his concert in Boston on Sept. 18.

"I sent them pizza!" he says. "One of the protestors was actually really cute, and I called him out on Twitter, but I haven't heard from him. He's either laughing or having a really hard time in the group chat right now!"

The rapper remains very open to meeting someone, telling PEOPLE he did go out "on a date last week."

Lil Nas X's journey to self-actualization is personified in Coach's new "Courage to Be Real" campaign video. Directed by Petra Collins, the short film follows the musician as he moves from different rooms that represent key moments in his personal journey — from his early days in the Atlanta suburbs, to achieving fame through music, to reaching new creative heights in digital worlds and becoming the multi-hyphenate superstar he is today.

"I really wanted to make sure they were going to show me breaking down doors — so, in the video, I literally go through them," he says. "I'm really happy with how it came out."

The campaign is Lil Nas X's first for Coach as its newest global ambassador. Last month, he also made his NYFW runway debut during the fashion house's Spring 2023 show.

"That was really cool," he says. "I felt a little out of place with all these models, but I was like, 'Oh nah, I got this. I'm meant to be here.' I looked a little angry in the face, but I was actually really happy!"

Getting to sit next to Anna Wintour during Vogue World's fashion show was also a surreal moment for him.

"She was really nice and congratulated me on everything," he says. "I'm just happy Anna even knows of my work. I didn't know I'd be sitting next to her."

With Wintour's seal of approval, Lil Nas X says he's ready for whatever his next chapter brings. "It's the end of the beginning," he says.

Lil Nas X’s Most Iconic Outfits, Ranked

lil nas x best outfits ranked hero

“Old Town Road” is one of the biggest musical accomplishments of the 21st century. Nonetheless, its greatness pales in comparison to the jaw-dropping splendor that is Lil Nas X’s wardrobe. On the red carpet, much like on the charts, the man only drops bangers. In a mere few months of stardom, the “Panini” singer has debuted some seriously iconic fits. Take a look at our selection of the most important, most game-changing and most inspirational fits of the young rapper’s career.

The TikTok star turned superstar has an eye for two primary outfit factors: firstly, their "yeehaw scale" (meaning: Is the vibe that of a dandy cowboy? ) and secondly, their "abdominal visibility" (meaning: Can you see his abs?). He’s a mastermind of morphing these two elements and turning yeehaw looks into open-vest displays. Nas X doesn’t deserve all the credit—his looks are created by stylist Hodo Musa , a genius whose imagination knows no bounds .

Here is our definitive list of Lil Nas X’s most iconic fits, analyzed for their quantifiable performance on the yeehaw scale and abdominal visibility.

6. Lil Nas X at 2019 iHeart Radio Show

lil nas x best outfits ranked 1

Yeehaw Level: Three Cowboy Hats

Abdominal Visibility: 6/6

We’ll begin with this look, because of its unbelievable performance on both of our aforementioned metrics. Though the yeehaw level could certainly be increased, Nas X manages to ace the abdominal visibility test while remaining true to his yeehaw origins.

5. Lil Nas X at Z100 Summer Bash

lil nas x top looks ranked 3

Yeehaw Level: 0 Cowboy Hats

Cowboys don’t only ride horses. Sometimes they have to leave the rodeo and dip their toes into other pools. That departure is on full display here. Although Nas X rejects the country elements of his “Old Town Road” ethos in this fit, he reminds us that he is not just a country star, but also a country-trap-conflating wunderkind. Is cyberpunk the next wave?

4. Lil Nas X at 2019 MTV VMAs

lil nas x top outfits ranked 4

Yeehaw Level: 5 Cowboy Hats

Abdominal Visibility: 0

With this look, Nas X prioritized yeehaw compatibility over abdominal visibility. The suit, designed by Union Western Clothing, epitomizes yeehaw fashion. In a red getup, with a gem-studded belt from B.B. Simon, a matching red hat by Gladys Tamez and red snakeskin boots by Pskaufman, Lil Nas X brings the red carpet to the press room.

3. Lil Nas X at the 2019 MTV Awards

lil nas x best outfits ranked 5

Yeehaw Level: 2 Cowboy Hats

Somehow, Nas X’s red carpet look from the 2019 Video Music Awards outshines his press room fit. Glittering from top to bottom in a suit designed by Christian Cowan (his first menswear piece), the rapper takes yeehaw fashion up a notch, relegating high-heeled cowboy boots to the world of glitzy, extravagant style. Nas X combines elements of yeehaw fashion with princely extravagance and a puffy shirt suitable for the grandest of pirate kings.

2. Lil Nas X at the 2019 BET Awards

lil nas x top outfits 6

Abdominal Visibility: 4/6

Lil Nas X’s BET Awards outfit provides another example of his keen eye for combining yeehaw style with abdominal visibility. With an open jacket and gorgeous white cowboy hat, he positively works the vivid blue suit designed by Pyer Moss.

1. Lil Nas X at the Boston Calling Music Festival 2019

lil nas x best outfits ranked 7

Ultimately, this is my favorite Lil Nas X outfit of the year. The prevalence of leather and flame graphics keeps the gear firmly planted in the tradition of yeehaw style, while the lack of shirt grants the rapper access to his coveted abdominal visibility. Nas X tucks his flashy leather pants into cowboy boots, showing off the incredible detail on his tall, eccentric footwear. It’s a fantastic outfit, and a get up whose influence will echo through the halls of contemporary fashion for decades to come.

‘It was crazy and it was freezing’ … Lil Nas X’s tastefully pixelated Industry Baby video.

‘They’re not ashamed of their bodies’: Sean Bankhead on his raunchy dances for Beyoncé, Cardi B, Lil Nas X and more

He’s the world’s hottest choreographer, the man who cooks up steamy videos and stage shows for giants of music. But does the Atlanta star ever think he goes too far? Quite the opposite …

T his year’s Super Bowl was watched by more than 120 million people in the US, almost as many as watched the moon landings. And in the half-time show, right behind R&B superstar Usher, there was Sean Bankhead dancing. “It was a really overwhelming sensory experience,” says Bankhead. “It was hot, muggy, sweaty and it stunk like a football game.” Bankhead, 35, officially hung up his dancing shoes a few years ago to focus on choreography for the likes of Missy Elliott, Normani, Katy Perry, FKA twigs, recent Grammy winner Victoria Monét and Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion (whose 2021 Grammy performance of WAP he masterminded) but he couldn’t turn down the chance to dance with Usher, one of his childhood heroes. “I messed up so many times. We performed on the actual grass and there were chunks missing. But it was a rush.”

It has been quite a year for Bankhead so far. As well as the Super Bowl, he choreographed Lil Nas X’s controversial J Christ video, and Canadian singer Tate McRae’s performance at the Brits. “I had a baaaaall at the Brits,” he says, in his Atlanta drawl. “The Brits are way more fun than American awards shows. I had no clue! There was a huge party and everyone was drunk as hell.”

Bankhead is the man of the moment, but in some ways his style harks back to the music videos he grew up with in the 90s and 00s: Michael and Janet Jackson, Aaliyah, Britney Spears – that’s where he learned to dance, not taking a class until he was 16. “I didn’t even know what a choreographer was. I was just so enamoured by what I was watching on TV.”

‘It’s time for choreographers to be financially recognised’ … Bankhead at the 2023 MTV video music awards.

His education came from going to clubs. Snap music was big in the Atlanta hip-hop scene, catchy songs like Soulja Boy’s Crank That coming with their own dance routines. “I could call myself a switch-hitter,” he says, borrowing a baseball term for ambidextrous batting. “I went to the gay clubs and I saw ballroom culture up close. I would go to the ‘hood’ clubs and learn how to do the ‘lean wit it, rock wit it’ dance. I would go to the white clubs and thrash around like Britney and learn my pop style, then go to reggae clubs and learn how to do dancehall and Afrobeats. I would always follow the party.”

All those influences make it into his dance work, but he’s also a trained percussionist. “So I can create rhythms with my body that match the beat or create my own beat. People are like, ‘Wow! Where did that rhythm come from?’” At first making dance a career seemed impossible. At auditions, he was “a young skinny kid and back then they were looking for buff masculine dancers”. So he started posting his own choreographies on YouTube. There’s one up there entitled Beyoncé Tour Submission – Bankhead didn’t wait to be asked, he just put himself out there. “I was so hungry and ambitious. I would just create, in the hope that someone would see it.”

Ultimately, it worked. These days Bankhead works with some of music’s biggest artists, including Beyoncé. For diamond-selling rapper Cardi B , he choreographed the videos Up and Bongos, featuring Megan Thee Stallion. Both have striking dance routines but are also unapologetic flesh-fests, with curves escaping from bikinis and a lot of booty – the moves as explicit as the lyrics. Does Bankhead ever have the conversation: how sexy is too sexy?

“We don’t,” he says. “In fact, it’s usually more like, ‘I want to show more ass and I want to show more crotch.’ They are not ashamed of their bodies, they love their sexuality. And I’m right there supporting them.”

He insists that Cardi B, whose performing persona is uber-confident and a tad intimidating, is really “so sweet, so kind, the shyest person”. He says the same about himself. “I’m very reserved, very chill. But then you see my work and think, ‘He must be some fabulous diva.’”

Unapologetic flesh-fest … the video for Cardi B’s Bongos, featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

With rapper Lil Nas X, Bankhead worked on the “creatively ballsy” video for the song Industry Baby. Set in a prison, it featured a naked dance routine in the showers (tastefully pixelated). This was the final scene of a two-day shoot, on an outdoor set. “It’s crazy, it’s freezing, it’s three in the morning,” he remembers. “People were slipping and falling. I stripped down to my underwear and was jumping and screaming just to make them feel more comfortable.”

Bankhead’s got an eye for a viral moment. The #OnMyMamaChallenge he created with Victoria Monét on TikTok has had more than 150 million views. Visuals and choreography “can make or break music”, he says. So are choreographers getting enough credit? “Yes and no. It’s time for us to be financially recognised. Songwriters will get paid for the rest of their lives if they write a hit song. But choreographers don’t get any type of residual income when we create a viral dance that makes the song blow up. I get a flat fee. I could be owed millions.” Partly for that reason, Bankhead is now looking to build his own brand. He’s got plans for TV shows and fashion collaborations. You can expect to see him in front of the camera soon. If Bankhead has learned anything, it’s that nothing happens unless you put yourself out there.

  • Lil Nas X gets candid about his sexuality on new single, "Trust Me"

Earlier this week, Lil Nas X shared the brand new single, "Trust Me" on SoundCloud after teasing it online.

Last month, after teasing the track, he expressed his feelings about sharing such a personal story online: “I hate explaining myself every time i do anything, but this is not for shock. this is me telling my story, y’all being uncomfortable by it does not make it a gimmick. This is for me and my fans fuck everybody else," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He has now shared that the song "means a lot" to him, after releasing the track on SoundCloud, although fans are not very happy with his choice to avoid releasing on DSPs such as Spotify for Apple Music.

"Do you got sum against streaming platforms or what bc im tired of going to the ghetto to stream new lil nas," one person wrote, whilst another said: "you want to be a SoundCloud rapper so badly!! BE A SPOTIFY RAPPER. IM TRYING TO MAKE MY SUMMER PLAYLISTS!"

The forthcoming tour documentary LIL NAS X: LONG LIVE MONTERO will be available on digital platforms to rent and own from next month onwards.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
