The store is now officially open to the public

The Co-op has opened the doors of its newest store for the first time in the Sleaford area.

The national food retailer has opened its new food store in the Handley chase development just off London Road, Quarrington.

The store, which runs one 100 per cent renewable electricity, opened to the public at 10am Friday, August 2.

Customers will be able pick up a range of fresh produce including baked goods from the store's bakery, while also picking up coffee on the go from the Costa Coffee dispenser.

It has also been announced a set of Amazon Lockers will be installed in the coming weeks offering shoppers a place to pick up their Amazon deliveries.

Phil Cooper,  Co-op  area manager, said he was "delighted" the company would be opening in the  new development.

"We are delighted to have had the opportunity to make such a significant investment in Sleaford, and to be right at the heart of a new community development," he said.

"Our aim is to ensure the store makes a difference in the community, and contributes to local life. We also want customers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op, and that the Co-op gives back to its members and the community.

Pair fined more than £1,600 for string of "disruptive" incidents

"Our members help us to make a difference locally, raising money for local causes simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us."

Sleaford Town Councillor Ken Fernandes said it was good to see the new store open.

"That area has no Co-op, so it will deal with that area quite nicely," he said.

"Something small like that will cover that area. It's time they started developing south of the river. At the moment we've only got Aldi and the Spar.

The store was opened by mayor of Sleaford Adrian Snookes, fifth right, and deputy mayor Anthony Brand, fifth left.
