Guide part 21

Okami 00 walkthrough.jpg

Speak with Kushi a few times and the camera should swing upwards, highlighting the spring and the open barrel next to it. Using the Watersprout brush technique, fill the bucket of water to trigger a cutscene during which you'll need to help Susano fight off some troublesome imps.

Okami 07 012.jpg

After the scene ends, run back down the hill, following the Canine Tracker to Kokari who's fishing on an island. Once again, you'll have to help Kokari with his fishing, first catching two small fish before tackling the great Whopper. When you've caught the Whopper, you'll learn the Crescent brush technique which lets you turn day to night. Follow Issun's instructions to test it out and progress the story.

Okami 07 027.jpg

Before long, you'll find the Kokari's dog has returned. Canine Warrior Jin (no longer Ume) challenges you to a fight which you have to accept. This fight plays out exactly like your fight with the previous canine, Warrior Take. While attacking, watch out for Jin's charge attacks and rock throwing. Play it patiently, and you should get through the fight without troubles.

Okami 07 056.jpg

When Jin is defeated, you'll earn the Justice Orb. With the canine warrior of Agata Forest dealt with, it's time to head to Kamiki Village to find the last of the three missing hounds of Princess Fuse.

Okami 07 072.jpg

As you roll into Kamiki Village, the Canine Tracker appears and points you towards Mushi's pup, Hayabusa. If you speak to him during the day, Hayabusa will simply turn you away and ask you to come back at night. Use your new Crescent brush technique to turn the clock, then speak to Hayabusa--or Chu, as he's called—to engage in battle.

Okami 07 085.jpg

Again, this fight is nearly identical to the previous dog battles you've had. More important here is to watch out for Chu's quick rock-kick attack that can come out in the thick of battle, making it hard to see. Also, avoid stepping into the holes Chu digs. If you step into a hole, you'll be temporarily stuck as you mash the jump button to try and escape before Chu moves in for an attack.

Okami 07 093.jpg

Just like the two previous dogs, Chu refuses to go with you but gives up his Power Orb. With the last missing Power Orb in possession, return to Princess Fuse all the way back at Kusa Village.

You won't find Princess Fuse right where you left her, but she is just inside the building near the top of the village. Speak with her and Amaterasu will be surrounded by the eight Power Orbs. When you're ready, leave Fuse's hut and follow the path to the west, leading to Gale Shrine.

Shinshu Field, Upper Section

Along the path from the Nameless Man's forge is a cat statue at the foot of a cliff.

okami travel guide 25

Use Catwalk to get to the top. Head to the northwest corner of the area to find a Devil Gate.

okami travel guide 25

Eliminate the three Red Imps and two Blue Imps inside for 30 Praise and feed the hares which appear. There is a wilted clover nearby which is worth an additional 30 Praise and a buried chest containing a Pearl .

Start following the path southeast and you will come upon a second Devil Gate.

okami travel guide 25

Eliminate the three Red Imps and two Black Imps inside for 30 Praise and feed the second group of hares which appear. Jump onto the nearby low hill and and dig up a chest containing a White Porcelain Pot which adds a new entry to your Treasure Tome.

Head to the easternmost tip of the area where you will find a buried chest containing Kutani Pottery and a wilted clover worth 30 Praise.

Approach the ruined tower for a brief scene.

okami travel guide 25

Grab a Crystal from the chest at the base and then use Thunderstorm to connect a lightning bolt to the conductor sticking out of the top of the tower.

okami travel guide 25

This reveals a portal. Go through.

okami travel guide 25

Head through the long tunnel to the frozen land beyond.

okami travel guide 25

There is an Origin Mirror a short distance along the path on the left. Head forward along the path and you will be attacked by a group of Namahages and Blade Namahages. These fight similarly to Green and Red Imps. Use Galestorm as a floral finisher.

The path to the east is blocked by an impassable blizzard so go into the nearby hut. There's a warm fire here but also a menacing figure.

okami travel guide 25

The figure runs out. Follow him to find yourself in a boss fight against Oki. This in two stages. During the first stage, Oki will fling daggers at you. Use Power Slash to send them back and stun him, allowing you to get some hits in. After you've removed his health bar, he will transform into wolf form.

okami travel guide 25

His attacks will become quicker. although he'll stop the dagger-flinging thing. If he summons ghostly clones, take those out to avoid taking damage from multiple sources.

After you've defeated him, he will introduce himself as Oki of the Oina tribe. Because attempted murder is the way all northern peoples greet visitors.

okami travel guide 25

It seems that he and Issun are already acquainted. After a lengthy exposition dump, you will regain control of Ammy.

The blizzard blocking the path to the east will have abated for the time being so head down the now-open passage. You can't go very far forward, so turn right to find Yoichi who is firing arrows into the cursed area.

okami travel guide 25

Wait until an arrow is in mid-air and then use Thunderstorm to power up the arrow.

okami travel guide 25

This will break the rock surrounding the Guardian Sapling, earning you 50 Praise. You can now bloom the sapling from a safe distance to restore some semblance of life to the area, earning you an additional 50 Praise.

Turn around and you will find a group of sheep. Feed them herbs and then use Inferno on one of the torches outside Yoichi's hut to unfreeze the chest to the left of it and grab the Pearl .

Backtrack to the area where you fought Oki. There are a bunch of Demon Scrolls if you want to check out the other Namahage types and you will find a pair of bears near the Shinshu Field exit. They eat fish.

Return to Yoichi's hut and take the path leading east. You will pass a group of foxes (which should bring your total to 100%). Continue down to the lakeside where you will find a frozen chest containing a White Porcelain Pot to the left of the entrance to the Kamui Dojo.

Go through the entrance and dig up the buried chest next to the weapon racks and open it for a Stray Bead (72/99).

okami travel guide 25

Go inside the Dojo and make yourself known to Onigiri Sensei again.

okami travel guide 25

You should have the yen to unlock all these by now, with the exception of Brown Rage. There is a trophy for mastering all Dojo techniques but Brown Rage is both very expensive and not very useful. I recommend that when you accumulate the requisite funds. you unlock the ability within the context of a temporary save for the trophy and then reload your game.

Head back outside and give some fish to the cranes standing next to the lake. This should complete your Animal Tome , although you have a way to go before getting 100% for all animal types. There's a buried chest in the middle of the group containing some Etched Glass which is another new entry for the Treasure Tome.

Speak to the familiar figure by the lake.

okami travel guide 25

Kokari has located here from Agata Forest. Speak to him again and you can fish.

okami travel guide 25

Kamui Fishing You can catch the following types of fish: Nautilus (nighttime) Scallop Sea Horse Blowfish Monkfish (nighttime) Octopus Yellowtail Flying Fish (nighttime) Squid Supreme Tuna Oarfish Marlin Fish unique to this area are in bold. Not that there is no premium paid back in Sei-an City for the Kamui-specific fish so sell them to the most convenient merchant. The monkfish and yellowtail require 2 strikes while the supreme tuna, oarfish and marlin require 3. If you've kept up with your fishing thus far, you can unlock the trophy for completing your Fish Tome.

Head back to the Guardian Sapling and take other path leading north. You will be immediately attacked by an Igloo Turtle. Attack it normally until you stun it. At that point, use Inferno from its burning tail to its shell to expose the straw raincoat inside which can be attacked directly.

There is a solitary bear by the sign to Wep'keer and an iron rock nearby that you can break to find a wilted clover worth 40 Praise. Look up to see a Konohana Blossom by the Guardian Sapling.

okami travel guide 25

Vine up there and bloom a wilted clover for 30 Praise. Cherry Bomb the cracked wall to uncover a patch of ground with two Cherry Bomb cracks. You have to use Cherry Bomb 2 to draw two Cherry Bombs to get through. Do not try to draw to two bombs in a single use of the brush. Instead, draw one, release R1 and then draw the second.

okami travel guide 25

Drop down to a Divine Spring. Bloom the trees and restore the wilted clovers for a total of 104 Praise. Toss a total of ¥300000 into the spring to summon Bakugami who bestows the Cherry Bomb 3 ability on Ammy. Afterwards, grab the Cherry Bomb 3 Travel Guide from the chest.

okami travel guide 25

Back outside, drop down and rejoin the path. There is a merchant next to the frozen pond if you want to sell your fish and treasures. Slide across the ice to the island in the middle of the pond. There is a wilted clover worth 30 Praise and a hole in the ground that you can dig down through to find yourself in another grotto.

You will earn a total of 102 Praise for restoring the withered trees and blooming the wilted clovers. Unfortunately, there's someone else here preventing you from getting to the treasure: Blockhead Grande.

okami travel guide 25

Blockhead Grande requires you to memorise a sequence of eight weak points which is probably a bit much - use your mobile phone to start recording as soon as you tackle and then hold the R1 button as you play back the recording frame-by-frame and fill in the dots. Or use trial-and-error - your choice. You will earn 50 Praise for destroying Blockhead Grande and can then open up the three chests for some Gold Dust , a Silver Pocket Watch and a Stray Bead (73/99).

okami travel guide 25

There is enough Gold Dust in the game to upgrade each weapon. However, two only become available after the point of no return so you may want to think about which weapons you want to upgrade. At this point, you have one Reflector, two Rosaries and two Glaives to find and you will obtain three more Gold Dusts before the endgame.

Back on the surface, feed the bears next to the island and continue north towards the Devil Gate.

okami travel guide 25

There's a buried chest just to the south of it which contains the Amber Tassels .

okami travel guide 25

Eliminate the three Blade Namahages and the Bucket Namahage from the Devil Gate to earn 50 Praise and restore the Mermaid Spring. There is a buried chest just to the east of the spring containing a Stray Bead (74/99).

okami travel guide 25

Clear the two Blade Namahages and Igloo Turtle from the Devil Gate a short distance to the north for 50 Praise and then head over to the house in the west. Feed the sheep outside and go inside. Speak to Distressed Youngster Wali several times until he gives you his wanted list.

okami travel guide 25

You may as well clear this right away.

Wali's Record of Penance You will find the enemies that Wali wants taking out in the following locations: Outside Wali's Hut. On the frozen river to the north of the bridge. East from the previous encounter, near some bears. To the north of the merchant. Near the island in the frozen river with the wilted clover. I found that the Demon Scroll outside Wali's hut didn't appear until I saved my game and reloaded the save. There are also reports of the trophy glitching so you may want to save before tackling the final enemy regardless. Assuming you completed the other three Wanted Lists, you will unlock the Sniff 'Em Out trophy when you kill the final mark. Report back to Wali to receive a pinch of Gold Dust.

To the north of Wali's Hut is a cave.

okami travel guide 25

As you enter the cave, there is a frozen chest on your left containing a Vengeance Slip . Go forward for some enjoyable platforming. There's a rock in the centre of the cave with a chest. To get there, you need to double jump and then dash (square button). Open the chest for the Tribe of the Moon travel guide.

okami travel guide 25

Repeat the manoeuvre to get over to the far side of the chasm. There's a frozen chest containing an Exorcism Slip L . Further back in the cave is a diamond rock that you cannot yet cut and a bear to feed.

Return to the near side of the chasm and jump to the platform on the right. Bloom the wilted clover for 30 Praise and then leap across to the right-hand passage. Feed the bear at the back and then grab the Stray Bead (75/99) from the frozen chest.

okami travel guide 25

Leave the cave and return to Kamui Village. Ignore the path that continues north for the time being but check under the bridge for a group of hares to feed.

Continue north until you come to an ice ledge. Wall jump to the top, feed some cranes and grab the Amethyst Tassels from the chest.

okami travel guide 25

Drop back down and go east towards what is currently a dead end.

okami travel guide 25

There's a buried chest containing a Golden Peach , a group of bears to feed, another buried chest containing a Crystal and an iron rock to the south that you can destroy to reveal a wilted clover worth 40 Praise.

Cross back over the bridge and head up the path to the north towards Wep'Keer. When you get near the top, look to your right to spot a wilted clover, a chest and a Cherry Bomb crack.

okami travel guide 25

The clover is worth 40 Praise and the chest contains a Stray Bead (76/99).

okami travel guide 25

Use a Cherry Bomb to get through the ice blocking the cave entrance and go inside. Dig through the patch of hard earth at the end and drop down the hole. This leads to the Devil Gate Trial. This is one of the most difficult challenges in the whole game so you'll want to wait until you unlock your ultimate weapons before tackling it. However, there's no reason not to defeat the Bandit Spider and claim the Sun Fragment (11/15), particularly since we'll be picking up the 12th shortly.

okami travel guide 25

If you fancy your chances, details of the Devil Gate Trial are here . Otherwise, return to the surface, drop down to the frozen river and make your way back up the path. This time, go through the area exit.
