Best Cruise Ships in the World The Gold List 2024

Celebrity Beyond Arrow

Cruise ships often get compared to floating hotels or resorts, but here’s one that feels like a floating Vegas show. Applause, please, for the glittering peacock made from Swarovski crystals and the Magic Carpet platform that shimmies up and down the ship, cantilevered over the water for some of the best seats in the house, while in the Martini Bar, a troupe of bartenders juggle shakers to the sound of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Beyond is one of the largest ships in Celebrity’s Edge class, and all that space is used to maximize the drama. A whole corridor is filled with a glowing installation of bronze sculptures reflected in infinity mirrors; a favorite anchorage was Eden, a beautiful, biophiliac bubble for hiding away in, watching the ship’s wake through triple-height windows and dawdling in swivel chairs that resemble green carnations. As for the cast, there are some stellar performers: Kelly Hoppen designed most of the interiors; Daniel Boulud’s debut signature restaurant at sea, Le Voyage, has an impeccable, globe-trotting menu alighting on Brazilian moqueca and tamarind prawns. But top of the bill is Captain Kate McCue, the first American woman to captain a cruise ship. A captain hasn’t been this synonymous with their ship since the days of Merrill Stubing; follow her social media for a glimpse into the art of ship navigation. During our short, prelaunch cruise, we had an itinerary that involved looping round and round the Isle of Wight—a short trip, but one that was big on sheer spectacle. Three-night sailings from $300 per person. —Rick Jordan

Delfin II. Amazon

Delfin II — Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Arrow

The Amazon River has the opacity of chocolate milk and is almost deathlike in its stillness—which is wild when you consider how much life thrives there. It was on a nine-day journey through Peru with Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic that I learned this, as we spent five of those days exploring the jungle by boat. Our chariot: the Delfin II , a Relais & Châteaux vessel with 14 thoughtfully appointed staterooms.

Most days began with a crack-of-dawn skiff ride soundtracked by the squall of jewel-winged, dusky-headed parakeets. The photographers pulled out their football lenses and the birders gasped from behind their binoculars as naturalists pointed out an elegant snowy egret picking its way through a mudbank, a neotropic cormorant spreading its gothy black wings like a vampire, and the somber Jabiru stork, the largest flying bird in South America, standing like a dour English butler on a naked tree limb. Also flagged were capuchin monkeys, giant river otters, flamboyant bromeliads, and—after dark—scores of caimans and capybaras.

We spent one muggy morning in a Kukama village, where indigenous women wove raffia bowls and cooked catfish, and another morning paddling the river—an outing which culminated with a pod of pink river dolphins leaping from the water mere feet from our kayaks. (Even our seen-it-all naturalist, Sandro, clapped like a schoolgirl.)

This deep in the Amazon jungle, there were no other tourists. When we did see signs of human life, they were usually fishermen or park rangers. And because there was no Wi-Fi on the Delfin II and a near total blackout on cell reception, downtime was spent attending lectures on Amazonian ecology, sampling native fruits (how the aptly named ice cream bean hasn’t been pitched on Shark Tank yet, I’ll never know), and buddying up to the ship bar, where I made fast friends of fellow guests. (Expedition cruises always draw a fascinating lot; my cohort included a microbiologist, metaphysical transcendentalist, and one of the earliest Apple employees.)

The highlight of the trip, however, was hiking through the jungle with a local tracker who showed us a brown-throated three-toed sloth, Goliath bird-eating tarantula, junior anaconda, and a century-old strangler fig. When we finally emerged from the bush, we were treated to a spectacular tangerine-and-charcoal sunset punctured by bolts of lighting. It was surreal and intense, just like everything else in this untouched corner of the world. Eight-day sailings from $5,730 per person. —Ashlea Halpern

Evrima — The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Arrow

Ritz-Carlton’s first foray into cruising, the Evrima is a hotel-at-sea experience that might just be the antidote to all the big ship itineraries. Think ultra-small ship luxury (at half the capacity of the Seabourns and Regents) with plenty of scenery options to choose from—the European Mediterranean (routes from Turkey to the Canary Islands) from spring through fall, and the Caribbean (San Juan to St. Barts) in winter—and a younger crowd than most of the luxury cruise market; mostly culture lovers with a dearth of cruising experience who can't wait to get ashore to the Côte d’Azur village restaurants. The 624-foot ship is the first in a fleet of three emerging over the next few years, and it still feels spacious with 149 suites, two pools, a cigar humidor, six bars (the interior Living Room and top-floor Observation Lounge, The Bar, and bars located at the Marina Terrace, the Pool House, and Mistral), a beauty salon and spa deck, water-level marina terrace with water toys, and a fitness center. The 246 staff range from deck crew to your cabin’s personal concierge, all of whom are dubbed the ship’s Ladies and Gentlemen—but titles feel almost superfluous aboard Evrima , where everyone from the tender drivers to dining leads will pause to actually get to know you and recall your name and story (and even your drink order) to make the entire experience feel organic and warm. It’s almost like you’re spending the night in someone’s home, which just so happens to be a 624-foot mega-yacht. And the Evrima itinerary has plenty of free time and overnight ports of call in its sailings, so you can head ashore for a day, or even an entire evening late into the night—gallivanting, dining, and imbibing with the new friends you'll no doubt meet onboard. Seven-night sailings from $5,800 per person. —Shannon McMahon

Marina — Oceania Cruises Arrow

Is there any Marina passenger who doesn’t wish—even for a second—to confine himself to his stateroom on debarkation day? Perhaps only the smarty pants who booked their next cruise before this one ends. Otherwise, how can an epicurean cruiser (that’s Marina ’s crowd) not pine for another shot at the new wine list starring 80 highly coveted, hard-to-snag labels, including swoon-worthy Super Tuscans? You’ll long for one more brag-worthy chance to sip The Mascot, a label from Harlan family pedigree (think cult fave Harlan Estate); the Polo Grill’s deft sommelier knows exactly which prime steak pairs best. Despite eight compelling complimentary restaurants (Red Ginger’s signature lobster pad thai is still a must-devour), Marina vibes far more than great meals. Work up a sweat storm playing pickleball on deck 16 or braving core conditioning in the gym. Melt into a marine detox wrap (I love the juniper and lemon scent) at Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center, then sink into the spa terrace’s bubbling hot tub. Get down and dirty in the artist loft by painting a Venetian mask and playing Impressionist. In the hands-on culinary center, learn to cure a fish or preserve a lemon. Come May 2024, Marina debuts a splashy redo. Fall in love again with revamped avocado toast—bravo to the taco-spiced shrimp topping—in the new wellness-driven Aquamar kitchen. Where you lie your head hardly matters. An entry 291-square-foot stateroom starring a four-pillow, soft-sheet bed feels mighty spacious and sports Bulgari shampoo. That said, the top-to-bottom penthouse suites’ glam reno is beyond covetable, from the expanded bath to a boatload of enviable perks. Ten-day sailings from $1,999 per person. —Janice Wald Henderson

MS Trollfjord — Hurtigruten Arrow

Who better to guide you through Norway’s most remote reaches—including the Svalbard archipelago, the northernmost inhabited islands on the planet—than a Norwegian cruise company that knows the area’s every crag and fjord? Hurtigruten is an Oslo-based line whose ships have traversed these waters since 1893, ferrying freight, mail, and passengers to the communities along the rugged coast. In 2023, to celebrate its 130th anniversary, the company’s flagship, the newly refurbished, 500-passenger MS Trollfjord (named for a fjord in the Vesterålen archipelago) began sailing two hybrids of its original 34-port Norwegian Coastal Express, calling at several of the towns and villages on the original route. From September through April, the North Cape Express (a 13-day, 16-port itinerary) sails from Oslo to the North Cape and then south to Bergen. In the summertime, the Svalbard Express’s eight-day journey begins in Bergen and progresses north, with extended port calls and excursions in seven towns before entering the Arctic Circle and pulling into Longyearbyen, a mining town on Spitsbergen, Svalbard’s main island. On both routes Trollfjord offers its (mostly European) passengers an uncommon way to explore the region, with uniquely Nordic cultural touches to connect them to the country. There’s a pre-boarding spread of Norwegian fare in the ship’s departure lounge, and Trollfjord ’s three restaurants prioritize Scandinavian cuisine (salmon, reindeer, and lingonberries, oh my!) and the food culture of the indigenous Sámi people. The ship’s 277 staterooms and 12 suites (with walk-in closets, corner bathtubs and floor-to-ceiling windows) offer a cozy retreat from the sometimes-harsh weather. And typically Nordic diversions such as aquavit tastings, oceanview saunas and polar plunges leave you in no doubt about where you are and who you’re sailing with. 10-day sailings from $3,082 per person. —Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon

Cruise Ship Regent Seven Seas Navigator

Navigator — Regent Seven Seas Arrow

Imagine the most luxurious hotel you’ve ever stayed in. That’s precisely what stepping onboard the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Navigator feels like. And while the opulence and grandeur shine through every square inch of space, it’s worth mentioning that the staff are what make the experience memorable, remembering your name, preferences, likes, and dislikes from the second you step afoot the eight-deck vessel.

The 248 ultraluxe all-suite accommodations feel like your home away from home—despite their capacious interiors—and your personalized steward makes sure of that with thoughtful touches from the moment you check in. Thanks to a revamp in 2019, the ship feels pristine with a new library—complete with a faux fireplace—and sleek state-of-the-art furnishings (including the cruise line’s bespoke mattresses and bed linens) in each of the rooms. However, what makes the Navigator stand out from its counterparts is its intimate size, as it’s the smallest in Regent’s fleet. Everything onboard feels just an arm’s reach away, and you’ll quickly bond with fellow passengers after spending the day together on one of the complimentary shore excursions, such as tours by local guides, cooking classes, and other intimate adventures.

During my Mediterranean voyage, days were spent immersing ourselves in new cities, whereas nights began with a freshly shaken ice-cold martini followed by an exuberant dinner, with a stop in the Seven Seas Lounge for whatever was on tap that night, ranging from cabaret to karaoke. At the end of the journey, I left wanting more and with a suitcase full of clean clothes, thanks to one of the many attentive touches onboard: the included laundry service. 10-night sailings from $3,360 per person. —Rachel Dube

Ovation — Seabourn Arrow

“We are not the Rat Pack,” quips Andrew Pedder, the witty Yorkshire-born captain of Seabourn Ovation. He's referring to himself and the other senior officers, for any guests who may have wandered into their impromptu panel session instead of the musical show taking place later that evening. The Q&A—which covers everything from the prettiest ports to the number of Champagne bottles typically consumed during a seven-day voyage—is part of a last-minute program of activities arranged for an unexpected sea day when it’s too windy to dock in the South of France. This is mid-October, on one of the ship’s jaunts around the Mediterranean for the season, and no one seems to mind the change of plan (although when we do explore, all the islands we visit—Menorca, Corsica, Elba—are blissfully tourist-free). It simply means more time for spa treatments, soaks in the outdoor hot tubs, and afternoon tea in the observation bar. Even then, it only feels like there are 60 passengers onboard, rather than 600. The restaurants are excellent, from Sushi, where you can sit at the counter watching the Japanese chefs at work, to poolside Earth & Ocean for Tandoori-style rotisserie chicken and Madras-style white bean cassoulet. Suites are spacious, each one with a balcony. West End–standard entertainment includes a magician and a chart-topping classical singer. But what makes this ultraluxe ship really memorable is the relaxed, on-point service by staff who remember your name and coffee order, or even a familiar face from a sailing five years ago. Seven-day sailings from $2,649 per person. —Emma Love

The Restaurant Silver Endeavour

Silver Endeavour — Silversea Arrow

Silversea is defined by its far-flung itineraries and exceptional onboard service (think Moët Champagne as you take in an iceberg calving in Antarctica). But the 220-passenger Silver Endeavour, new to the fleet and already a classic, raises every bar. Rooms start at a spacious 356 square feet and have luxury perks like pillow menus and a personalized bar, making them the best in all of Silversea’s array of ships. As far as food goes, premium Ars Italica Osetra caviar is complimentary and around-the-clock, though the Dover sole paired with a label from the rare wine menu at La Dame would have you believing you were in Paris. And the signature Otium spa celebrates pampering as much as it does wellness—don’t skip on the oxygen-boosting Golden Radiance facial. You may find yourself at any given hour glimpsing ice walls through the Drake Passage and remembering that the best part about this ship is the awe-inspiring places it dares to take you. 10-day sailings from $13,150. —Janice Wald Henderson

Scarlet Lady — Virgin Voyages Arrow

Although new to the cruise industry, Virgin Voyages has already begun to set itself apart from its predecessors. When first stepping on the Scarlet Lady, cruisers are met with a rousing, upbeat staff that serve as gurus around the ship and are experts on everything from beauty to juicing. While the Scarlet Lady takes you on a familiar route around the Caribbean, the on-shore excursions available are what make this sail memorable. Take a leap of faith on daring outings such as the Waterfalls of Damajagua in Puerto Plata, where guests make their way down seven of the 27 natural slides and waterfalls. After the exhilarating experience, travelers can sit down with locals and come together over Dominican staples such as pollo guisado, tostones, and mangú. You can always get local delicacies while docked, but while onboard, you must snag a reservation at the Test Kitchen. It’s an experimental dining experience where the menu always evolves. You go in only seeing a small card with ingredients listed for the night’s meal, but everything else is up to the imagination. One might find cucumbers puréed and frozen into ice cream as dessert, or beets formed and prepared like steak. While en route to the next port, the hard reset one does at the Redemption Spa leaves your body feeling anew; it’s impossible to come back from vacation feeling the same as when you departed. On any Virgin Voyages ship, you’ll love the indulgent atmosphere, whether you’re catering to your sweet tooth by narrowing down your favorite gelato of the day, grabbing a drink at one of the five bars that stake claim to having the largest tequila supply on the seven seas, or finally getting that tattoo you’ve been thinking about for ages after visiting the ship’s tattoo parlor, Squid Ink. Seven-day sailings from $2,100 per person. —Paris Wilson

Queen Mary 2 — Cunard Arrow

Six days sailing from England to New York across the vast Atlantic had the potential to bore me to stupefaction, but it turned out I had nothing to fear. “The ship is the destination,” said an entertainment director for Queen Mary 2 , who oversees a program that makes this cruise liner the undisputed hub of creative and intellectual stimulation on the high seas. Where else can you attend the annual Literature Festival At Sea, meeting top fiction and nonfiction authors like the late PJ O’Rourke, Bernadine Evaristo, and Louis de Bernières? And where else can you visit a planetarium, watch a Royal Shakespeare theater production, or hear guest speakers discuss artwork investments and the history of airport drug mules?

In between spa massages and table tennis rallies, I nourished my mind in the mahogany library before nourishing my body at the Princess Grill and Queens Grill restaurants, scarfing dishes like croquette of suckling pig, paired with excellent vintages and followed by mango panna cotta. On the final stretch of the journey, as dolphins leapt over the horizon and the Statue of Liberty loomed into view, my heart sank a little—New York City awaited, yet I didn’t want to disembark. That’s quite an achievement. Seven-day sailings from $1,389 per person. —Noo Saro-Wiwa

World Navigator — Atlas Ocean Voyages Arrow

During my first few hours aboard the Atlas Ocean Voyages World Navigator, I felt a bit like I had inadvertently crashed a family reunion: Seemingly everyone else aboard this Arctic expedition had just sailed to Antarctica on the Navigator six months before, so several crew members and guests spent much of embarkation day hugging and catching up. With a maximum occupancy of 196, it’s already an intimate ship, but the fact that the relatively young brand, which debuted in 2019, could develop such an impressive number of repeat travelers in such a short spell speaks volumes. Many told me they were drawn to Atlas because of its eco-friendly bona fides (the new-build ship makes use of hybrid engines from Rolls-Royce designed to leave minimal impact), but the creature comforts on board certainly help. While the star attraction of such an expedition voyage is what lies beyond the decks—access to remote Antarctic fjords that larger vessels can’t dream of traversing, or spotting polar bears loping along pearly glaciers in the Arctic—I made the most of my time in between Zodiac expeditions. The multi-jet shower in my stateroom was sublime after damp and rigorous treks, the heated massage beds in the only L’Occitane Spa at sea are a dream, and the Arctic summer’s 24 hours of sunshine made the Dome observation deck a prime perch to cozy up with a book at any time of day or night. There was neither internet nor cell phone connectivity during my entire eight-day journey sailing thanks to the remote latitudes (though Atlas guests now have access to full Starlink satellite coverage), which meant this was the longest I’d been offline since the 1990s—and yet somehow, drifting through the surreal landscape in this cosseting bubble, I didn’t miss scrolling or chatting with the outside world one bit. Seven-night sailings from $4,749 per person. —Sarah Khan

Westerdam — Holland America Line Arrow

A passenger who is well below senior age dances the robot to classic rock, to R&B, to country music, and to disco hits as talented singers and a live band perform most nights in the Rolling Stone Lounge, on Holland America Line’s Westerdam . His mechanical movements are a source of amusement and encouragement; if he can take over the dance floor, so can we with our own moves. The 1,916-passenger Westerdam is beloved as a traditional cruise ship, with its smaller-than-mega-ship size, deep blue hull, wraparound outdoor promenade deck, and details such as fresh flowers all around, celebrating the 150-year-old cruise line’s Dutch roots. Tradition does not mean staid. There’s rock and roll. There’s a trendy top-of-ship pickleball court.

On an Alaska cruise, my husband and I start our days with a jolt of caffeine via the baristas at Explorations Central, the ship’s cushy, contemporary, forward-facing observation lounge, before heading off on adventures such as joining other passengers in synchronized paddling a large canoe to see the ancient yet diminishing ice of Juneau’s Mendenhall Glacier. Back on the ship, we indulge in excellent burgers, topped with Gouda and applewood-smoked bacon and served in fast-food wrapping from a stand at the covered Lido pool. We enjoy sustainable Alaska seafood—grilled salmon, fennel-crusted halibut, fried cod—in between cocktails made with local gin, served on real glacial ice. From the veranda of our classic aft cabin, mesmerizing views of the ship’s wake, seemingly endless forest, and a distant, blue-tinged glacier clear our brain. We’re ready for more of the dancing man. Seven-day sailings from $379 per person. —Fran Golden

The best cruise lines in the world: 2023 Readers' Choice Awards

By Condé Nast Traveller

Viking River Cruises

The survey for the 2024 Readers' Choice Awards is open, vote now for your favourite places, hotels, airports, cruise lines, travel fixers and more.

Cruises are booming right now, buoyed partly by the popularity of domestic seacations that hauled in first-time sailors. So much so that Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ 34,000-mile world trip for 2024 sold out in just over two hours, while the adults-only Virgin Voyages, which aims to throw cruise stereotypes overboard, rose to first place in Large Ships. And we’ve brought back last year's new category showcasing the expedition cruises – small, often sustainable vessels with a shoal of scientific experts onboard – that follow in the wake of adventurers such as Sir Ernest Shackleton.

These are the best cruise lines in the world, according to the 2023 Readers' Choice Awards .

Embarking on Discovery: 2023’s Sea Marvels Await

At Gaba Travel, we’re always excited about unveiling new travel opportunities. Every year, the anticipation around the Condé Nast Cruise Ship Ratings is always high. This year is no different. The 2023 ratings have sailed into view, and we are thrilled to share the highlights with our cherished travelers. The Condé Nast ratings are a trusted source in the cruise industry, helping travelers choose the right cruise for their next adventure. This year’s list has revealed some familiar names, alongside emerging stars in the cruising world.

Cruise Ship Ratings Standout Performers and Notable Mentions

One of the standout performers this year is the Crystal Serenity. This elegant vessel has once again captured a spot at the top. Known for its luxurious ambiance and impeccable service, it’s a choice that guarantees a lavish sea journey. At Gaba Travel, we’re proud to offer journeys aboard this esteemed vessel. Another notable mention is the Viking Ocean Cruises line, with its blend of modern luxury and classic comfort, it’s a top pick for many. Their consistently high ratings reflect a dedication to passenger satisfaction and unrivaled cruising experience.

Family-Friendly and Boutique Cruises

Moreover, family-friendly cruises have not been left out. The Disney Cruise Line continues to enchant with its magical onboard experience. It’s an ideal pick for families looking to create everlasting memories on the high seas. The 2023 ratings have also spotlighted boutique cruises. These smaller, more intimate options offer a unique cruising experience, allowing travelers to explore lesser-known destinations while enjoying a cozy, personalized service.

Embracing the Future: Eco-Friendly and Exceptional Value Cruises

Transitioning to a greener future, many cruise lines have invested in eco-friendly practices. The Condé Nast cruise ship ratings have recognized these efforts, placing emphasis on sustainability. It’s a refreshing nod to the industry’s shift towards environmental responsibility. Furthermore, the ratings serve as a compass for travelers in search of exceptional value, highlighting cruises that provide an outstanding experience without breaking the bank.

Mega Ships (More than 4,000 passengers):

  • Norwegian Cruise Line – Score 86.72
  • Royal Caribbean International – Score 86.69
  • Carnival Cruise Line – Score 85.35
  • MSC Cruises – Score 83.42

Mega ships are synonymous with endless entertainment and amenities. Norwegian Cruise Line takes the lead, closely followed by Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line. The sheer size of these ships allows for a vast array of onboard activities, dining options, and entertainment venues. Whether you’re seeking an adrenaline rush on a waterslide, a quiet place to unwind, or a vibrant nightlife scene, these mega ships have something for everyone.

Large Ships (2,500 to 4,000 passengers):

  • Virgin Voyages – Score 94.07
  • Disney Cruise Line – Score 92.21
  • Cunard – Score 89.55
  • Princess Cruises – Score 89.42

Virgin Voyages steals the spotlight in the large ships category of Condé Nast Cruise Ship Ratings, with Disney Cruise Line not far behind, ensuring magical voyages for families. Large ships strike a balance between the grand scale of mega ships and the intimacy of smaller vessels. They offer a broad spectrum of amenities and activities, yet with a homier feel. The variety of onboard experiences coupled with a lesser crowd makes large ships a sweet spot for many cruisers.

Medium Ships (500 to 2,500 passengers):

  • Viking – Score 94.98
  • Disney Cruise Line – Score 92.92
  • Seabourn – Score 91.67
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises – Score 91.07

Viking reigns supreme among medium ships, showcasing a blend of luxury and exploration. Disney Cruise Line continues to enchant travelers with its unique offerings. Medium ships provide a more personalized service, often with a higher staff-to-guest ratio. The smaller scale allows for closer connections among passengers and a more immersive exploration of destinations.

Small Ships (Fewer than 500 passengers):

  • Emerald Cruises – Score 95.27
  • Paul Gauguin Cruises – Score 92.94
  • American Cruise Lines – Score 92.88
  • Sea Cloud Cruises – Score 91.94

Emerald Cruises leads the small ships category of the 2023 Cruise Ship Ratings, offering a more personalized and intimate cruising experience. Small ships often venture to off-the-beaten-path destinations, providing a unique opportunity to explore hidden gems. The intimate ambiance allows for personalized service and fosters a close-knit community on board. With fewer guests, every individual is treated to a luxury experience.

River Cruises:

  • Viking – Score 97.32
  • American Cruise Lines – Score 96.66
  • Tauck – Score 96.14
  • Oberoi Hotels & Resorts – Score 95.91

Viking also dominates the river cruise category, providing serene and scenic river voyages. River cruises offer an intimate and relaxed cruising experience, with the opportunity to explore charming towns and scenic landscapes. The slower pace and proximity to land create a unique and enriching travel experience. With a focus on cultural immersion, river cruises offer a deep dive into the local history, traditions, and cuisine of the regions they traverse.

Expedition Ships:

  • Viking – Score 96.52
  • UnCruise Adventures – Score 96.41
  • Aqua Expeditions – Score 95.97
  • Ecoventura – Score 95.82

For those with an adventurous spirit, Viking and UnCruise Adventures offer exhilarating expedition cruises to quench your thirst for adventure. Expedition ships are tailored for exploration, often venturing to remote and pristine areas. They are equipped with zodiacs, kayaks, and other exploration tools to bring passengers closer to nature. With expert guides and educational lectures, passengers are not only treated to breathtaking landscapes but also gain a deeper understanding of the natural world and the destinations visited.

The best cruises to take in 2020, according to Condé Nast Traveler

  • Condé Nast Traveler just released its annual Gold List , which is a collection of editors' favorite travel experiences.
  • The list included hotels, resorts, and cruises. Below are the top-rated cruise vacations to take next year.
  • Athens, Greece is the most popular port on the list.
  • The majority of featured ships were smaller and had more of a focus on luxury than a typical, traditional cruise ship.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Insider Today

"Are you a cruise person?" is a question that encompasses several others: How comfortable are you with overcrowding ? How much personal space do you need? How much money do you want to spend on a vacation?

Cruising doesn't always have the best reputation for a whole host of reasons – but it is also a preferred method of travel for many, especially as the industry takes a turn toward the luxurious.

Condé Nast Traveler just released its annual Gold List , a collection of hotels, resorts, and yes, cruises, that the editors recommend.

For the most part, the cruises selected by Condé Nast Traveler are high-end, luxury-oriented vacations with smaller or more boutique cruise lines. Only two featured ships had a carrying capacity over 1,000 passengers, and many had undergone recent renovations.

The routes selected also play into that luxurious narrative – only one route included Caribbean cruise hot spots, while other itineraries included less-traveled routes through French Polynesia or down the Nile River. Athens, Greece was crowned as a go-to spot: It was port city for three of the seven cruises included on the list.

Keep reading for a look at the cruise vacations that made the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, organized in ascending order of base price.

Disney Cruise Line Recognized as the Top Cruise Line in Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for the 10th Consecutive Year

Condé Nast Traveler readers ranked the best cruise lines in the world for the magazine’s 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards survey which received votes from over 800,000 readers. Disney Cruise Line remains the top  Large Cruise Line  in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for the tenth consecutive year. In the cruise category, voters evaluated more hundreds of cruise ships across multiple cruises lines.

Condé Nast says there’s one thing Disney Cruise Line does well, it’s hospitality. The company has taken every lesson it’s learned from its parks and resort operations and implemented that into its four cruise ships, the 2,400-passenger  Disney Magic  and  Disney Wonder , and the 4,000-passenger  Disney Dream  and  Disney Fantasy.  The ships are designed for families through and through—there are numerous themed activities every day, from meet-and-greets to full-blown parties with Disney characters—but there are plenty of adults-only areas that provide a respite from little ones. That said, the ships are not over-the-top when it comes to Disney decor. In fact, they’re quite elegant, taking design inspiration from early-20th-century ocean liners and sporting Art Deco and Art Nouveau aesthetics. The four ships currently sail the Caribbean (where they make port at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay), Alaska, Europe, the Pacific Coast, and the Panama Canal. Three more ships, including  Disney Wish,  are scheduled to be added to the fleet between 2022 and 2025.

I kind of laughed to myself after reading the following section, only because the resorts have forgotten what makes DCL good, “Condé Nast says there’s one thing Disney Cruise Line does well, it’s hospitality. The company has taken every lesson it’s learned from its parks and resort operations and implemented that into its four cruise ships”

' src=

I too found it a bit odd. As for some things, I see the Resorts learning lessons from DCL.

When cruise lines earn a top position on ranking lists fueled by passenger impressions of what they do, they shout about it.  A record number of travelers took part in the 30th annual Conde Nast Reader’s Choice Award s survey. In the process, millions of ratings and a ton of comments were generated to fuel the list of winning favorites.  Topping that list makes for a good day at any cruise line.  This year, the results reveal a continued direction for the world of cruise travel, epitomized by the top choices of readers.  The survey results bring one more arrow for our cruise selection bow.  Maybe not one to swing our decision but surely worthy of consideration along with other factors like itinerary, price, shipboard ambiance and more.

Best Cruise Lines as Ranked by Condé Nast Traveler

Condè Nast Traveler, a luxury and lifestyle travel magazine, conducted a two-month survey where readers voted on their favorite cruise lines in service, food, accommodations, sustainability and more.

While Norwegian Cruise Line is the third largest cruise line in the world, readers of Condè Nast Traveler ranked it as the best cruise line for mega ships. Mega ships are those carrying more than 4,000 passengers. Currently, Norwegian Cruise Line has a 19 ship fleet and operates two private islands—Harvest Caye in Belize and Great Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas. The cruise lines were scored on a 100-point scale and Norwegian Cruise Line scored 86.72.

Royal Caribbean International came in just behind Norwegian Cruise Line with a score of 86.68. Rounding at the top four were Carnival Cruise Line with 85.35 and MSC Cruises with 83.42.

The magazine also surveyed readers for the best cruise line for large ships. Large ships are those who carry 2,500 to 4,000 passengers.

Founded just eight years ago, Virgin Voyages took the top honor in the large ship category with a score of 94.07. Virgin Voyages is an adults-only cruise line that currently operates three ships.

Coming in second with a 92.21 is Disney Cruise Line. Cunard was third with a score of 89,55 while Princess Cruises was a close fourth at 89.42. Rounding out the list in order were Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, MSC Cruises, P&O Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line.

The survey also revealed that only 27% of the magazine’s readers took a cruise in 2022, but more than half of those that responded were curious about cruising and willing to book a cruise under the right circumstances, such as the right itinerary and pricing.

Which ships have you sailed on? Do you agree with these results?

USA TODAY 10Best

10 best cruise lines for every type of traveler, from adventurers to families

Danielle Bauter

May 6, 2024 // By Danielle Bauter

By Danielle Bauter May 6, 2024

Find your people on Carnival Cruise Line, one of the best for social butterflies

It's time to cast off your worries and set sail toward unforgettable experiences, charting a course for your dream vacation. But not everyone craves the same itinerary or type of cruise — some souls yearn for heart-pounding adventure, while others seek relaxation on idyllic beaches.

The good news? There's a perfect cruise vacation waiting for every type of traveler. From luxurious foodie adventures to social escapades and wellness wonders, we'll help you find the best cruises to indulge your desires. So, grab your swimsuit (or maybe your hiking boots), pack your sense of adventure, and get ready to plan your next cruise vacation.

Best cruise for the adventurer: Adventure Canada

Explore Devon Island in Nunavut during an Adventure Canada cruise

If adrenaline-fueled is how you like to cruise, then Adventure Canada is the perfect conduit. It's been a USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice favorite for Best Adventure Cruise Line for many years, and most recently it landed on the list for Best Cruise Lines for Families .

Advertisement Advertisement

Offering small-ship expedition cruises to remote areas like Greenland, Antarctica, the Canadian Arctic, and Iceland, Adventure Canada prioritizes exploration and education over typical cruise activities. Their itineraries get you off the ship and into the heart of the action, with zodiac landings, hikes, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Itineraries that travel to Greenland and Nunavut, Canada, literally take you off the map, visiting uninhabited archipelagos like Devon Island or towns like Ilulissat, Greenland, where you could potentially spot polar bears, narwhals, and beluga whales.

Watch out for calving icebergs, though — the possibility of a tidal wave capsizing your zodiac after ice plummets into the ocean is enough to get your blood pumping.

Best cruise for the wine enthusiast: AmaWaterways

Sample wine-themed excursions with AmaWaterways

Board a dedicated "Celebration of Wine" on Best River Cruise Line winner AmaWaterways and savor itineraries that sail through famous European wine regions like France's Bourdeaux, Germany's Rhine Valley, or Portugal's Douro Valley.

The cruise becomes part of the wine experience and often features partnerships with North American wineries that bring knowledgeable wine hosts on board to lead informative tastings and discussions.

The Rhine River cruise explores towns like Rüdesheim, a German winemaking town lined with tasting rooms and vineyards. In France, Riquewihr is one of the highlights of the Alsace Wine Route. You'll then venture on to charming Strasbourg, which claims to be home to the oldest wine on Earth. Stroll through historic vineyards and choose from a carefully selected wine list that showcases local wines from the regions you explore.

Best cruise for the hopeless romantic: Windstar Cruises

Find romance on Windstar Cruises' intimate yacht cruises

Imagine sailing around the rivieras of the Mediterranean, the crystal blue water sparkling under golden rays. The gentle sway of the vessel and the vastness of the ocean set a naturally romantic tone, especially when the sails rise over the setting sun. Unlike mega-ships with thousands of passengers, Windstar keeps things intimate.

Windstar Cruises travels to dreamy destinations like Tahiti and the French Riviera with three classic sailing yachts and three all-suite motor yachts. (Its Wind Spirit vessel took the top spot for Best Adults Only Cruise this year.) The cruise line also partnered with the James Beard Foundation to offer tantalizing meals on board. Windstar caters to romance with packages and add-on options, inviting you to enjoy dreamy spots like Bora Bora with an intimate dinner under the stars or a champagne breakfast in bed.

Best cruise for the wellness warrior: Oceania Cruises

Relax with a spa treatment at Oceania's Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center

Embrace the zen: Oceania Cruises offers a comprehensive wellness experience that caters to your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The state-of-the-art Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center offers a wide range of treatments designed to promote relaxation and rejuvenation.

Ranking for Best Boutique Cruise Line , Oceania is also known for its "finest cuisine at sea" philosophy, which translates to delicious and healthy cuisine (including extensive plant-based menus) alongside its more indulgent offerings.

Aquamar's Wellness Discovery Tours are shore excursions designed to complement your onboard wellness journey. For example, you can meditate with a monk in Thailand or learn to harness the power of spiritual drumming in Australia. Oceania travels across the globe on small, luxurious ships — from Africa to the Amazon, the Baltic to the South Pacific.

Best cruise for the culture vulture: Viking

Soak up some culture with Viking's classical performances

Designed for experienced travelers ages 55 and older who are interested in topics like science, history, and gastronomy, Viking has carved a niche for itself as a leader in cultural enrichment cruises. It steers away from the typical focus on onboard activities and entertainment. Instead, meticulously crafted itineraries immerse you in the history and culture of the places you visit.

Expect longer stays in ports, allowing you to explore destinations in greater depth. A Viking Resident Historian accompanies each ocean voyage, leading roundtable discussions and lectures about a specific topic. Along with classical musicians on board, Viking invites local musicians and ensembles for special performances. With an array of itineraries on their river, ocean, and expedition cruises, Viking travels to Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

It's no wonder Viking's extensive fleet of vessels has consistently ranked as reader-voted favorites for Best Boutique Cruise Line , Best Cruise Line for Solo Travelers , and Best Ocean Cruise Line .

Best cruise for the social butterfly: Carnival Cruise Line

Party with fellow social butterflies on Carnival Breeze

Party lovers, unite! Carnival Cruise Line has you covered if you're constantly seeking social stimulation. The cruise line thrives on creating a fun and lively atmosphere on all of its ships. Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze, and Carnival Celebration took the top three spots for Best Cruise Ship for Entertainment , making them great picks for social butterflies. Known for its energetic onboard entertainment that ranges from stage shows and dance productions to poolside games and deck parties, Carnival Cruise Line offers many opportunities to mingle with other passengers.

Download Carnival's HUB app to reserve select shows, specialty dining, and spa services. With an average of about 3,000 guests on board each ship, you're sure to find other like-minded individuals who want to check out the casino or comedy club, play an intense bingo game, or dance the night away at the nightclub. Destinations include the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, and Hawaii.

Best cruise for the solo traveler: Norwegian Cruise Line

Sail into the sunset with Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line goes above and beyond to cater to solo cruisers, from dedicated living quarters and social spaces to organized activities. The studio staterooms are designed specifically for solo travelers; solo-occupancy options for balcony and ocean view staterooms provide more personal space and a touch of luxury.

Whether you choose to visit destinations like Hawaii, South America, or the Greek Isles, you'll do so in style on this USA TODAY Readers' Choice Award winner for Best Cruise Line for Solo Travelers .

You'll also have exclusive access to the Studio Lounge, a social hub where you can relax, meet other solo cruisers, and enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day. Norwegian Cruise Line organizes social events specifically for solo travelers, ranging from casual meet-and-greets to group shore excursions, providing opportunities to connect with others and avoid feeling isolated. And if you crave solitude, you can find that too.

Best cruise for the LGBTQ jet-setter: Celebrity Cruises

Celebrate Pride in style every day of the year with Celebrity Cruises

"Love is love" perfectly describes the mantra of Celebrity Cruises , which goes beyond mere tolerance by actively celebrating diversity and creating an environment for LGBTQ travelers to relax and have fun. The cruise line fosters a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all passengers, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Board one of the 16 ships that travel to hundreds of ports worldwide and embark on group excursions or private journeys.

Celebrity pulls out all the stops in June with Pride Month celebrations, including theme parties and dazzling entertainment. (Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Beyond is a repeat winner for Best Cruise Ship for Entertainment .)

Many Celebrity cruises host LGBTQ welcome parties on the first night, allowing you to meet fellow travelers, mingle with crew members, and set the tone for your voyage. They also have become a champion for marriage equality at sea, offering legal same-sex wedding ceremonies on board their ships.

Best cruise for the foodie: Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Indulge your foodie fantasies on Regent Seven Seas' culinary cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises isn't just a cruise line; it's a culinary odyssey for discerning palates. The brand boasts an impressive array of specialty restaurants onboard, from French bistros to sizzling steakhouses and Asian fusion experiences, all with impeccable service and world-class cuisine. USA TODAY 10Best readers voted Seven Sea Explorer among the top 10 for Best Cruise Ship for Dining (twice!).

The Compass Rose, Regent's main dining room on all ships, transforms into an extension of the specialty restaurants, ideal for those who crave variety and exquisite flavors.

Regent also offers curated shore excursions designed for food enthusiasts, such as truffle hunting in Italy or cheesemaking tours in France, elevating your gastronomic exploration like never before. Gastronomes also can delve deeper with hands-on cooking classes led by culinary experts. Learn the secrets of French pastry or master the art of sushi making. These interactive sessions elevate your appreciation for food and empower you to recreate these dishes at home.

Best cruise for the family-friendly traveler: Royal Caribbean International

Enjoy water parks, tons of entertainment, and family-friendly dining on Royal Caribbean International

Have family, will travel! Royal Caribbean International offers something for everyone, from toddlers to teens (and parents or grandparents!). Voted among the Best Cruise Lines for Families , the award-winning Adventure Ocean youth program separates themed activities by age group, whether scavenger hunts or arts and crafts. You might have trouble luring them away.

What's a family vacation without some splashy fun? Royal Caribbean takes cruise decks to a new level with waterslides, kid-friendly splash zones, rock climbing walls, arcades, and laser tag arenas. Understanding that family vacations are about creating lasting memories, you'll also find family-friendly shore excursions like zip-lining through rainforests or exploring ancient ruins.

Conde Nast Ratings

Cool Cruiser

I always review the Conde Nast cruise line ratings with interest. Every year it seems that Crystal is rated higher than I think it deserves but what really astounds me is that Crystal cabins are considered preferable to Silversea. To me there is no comparison and Silversea and Regent, for that matter, are far superior. Can someone explain in what way Crystal cabins are better. We've cruised Crystal a number of times and also all of the Silversea and Regent ships and would rate Crystal below the other two in most catagories.

We have not been on Crystal, so we don't know. But from the drawings, Crystal cabins are not attractive. Besides, we don't like prescribed shift dinners and shift shows. Even on Celebrity, we just eat buffet dinners at our leisure rather than those prescribed sittings. On top of that, there are charges for tips, drinks, just about everything, which is alright on its own, but then Crystal charges Silversea rates. The Crystal fans all crow about the "service", which we have not tried, and is intangible. So for our limited means, we have no budget to plan on trying it out! Sorry, just our feline opinion, we guess each to his/her own.

Domer, I sail Crystal often and do think it is deserving of its overall rating based on my experience. I have also sailed Silversea and Seabourn and enjoyed very nice cruises on both of these lines as well. For us Crystal works best followed by Seabourn and then followed by Silversea. But this is just our opinion and each person has their own views. There is no right or wrong and the most important opinion is your very own.

While Crystal does rate over 90 in most categories in the last ranking it rated an 88.3 for its cabins which is consistent to how most people on Crystal would view the cabins (eg., when folks highlight what they like best about Crystal it is the service, cuisine, the public areas of the ship, the entertainment and enrichment programs.

Actually, Silversea did receive a higher score for cabins than Crystal did as it came in with an 88.8 score.

As I say often, we are so fortunate to be able to cruise on luxury cruise lines.

Travelcat2

I must agree that the Crystal ratings are puzzling to all but the many Crystal "crowers" (think I just made up that word). One also has to look at who is voting in these polls. In terms of suites (based on the size and photographs of Crystal regular suites), Silversea and Regent should have rated dramatically higher than Crystal.

Regent, who tied for #1 with Crystal on another poll (some people don't know this since we don't crow about it), also did not make sense to me as I would rate Silversea higher in the area of service than Regent.

Very puzzling indeed!

Well it could be that those on Silvesea and Regent are more critical of the suites. Or it could be that those on Crystal are not bothered about the suites.

Keep in mind that people who fill out the survey stay in a variety of accommodations.

In the end, the only opinion that truly matters is your own.

WesW

For those who care about cruiseline polls in Travel Magazines. The latest (CN Traveler Gold list 2011) ratings came out late last week:

2011 Gold list for top 4 lux cruiselines as rated by readers of CN Traveler. This poll included all cruiselines (large and small cruiselines) in the poll.

1. Seabourn 93.4

2. Crystal 92.3

3. Regent 91

4. Silversea 85.2

Believe for the first time in these polls (CN and Travel & Leisure) SB received the highest ratings for their cabins (95.3, vs 93.2 ®, 88.8 (SS) and 88.3 (Crystal). Also, think the Odyssey and Sojourn (these new SB ships have 90% veranda cabins) cruiser's votes are clearly putting SB at the top (e.g in 2010 Crystal had 92.7, followed by Seabourn at 90.2).

As Keith and Henry/Wripro (who have sailed in most of the lines above) have said it best, we are indeed fortunate to have the choice of the lux line that best matches are preferences. As both Keith and Henry know, we are looking forward to our first Seabourn cruise next fall aboard the newest lux line ship: Quest.

I must agree that the Crystal ratings are puzzling to all but the many Crystal "crowers"... In terms of suites (based on the size and photographs of Crystal regular suites), Silversea and Regent should have rated dramatically higher than Crystal.

P.S. Could the Silversea rating have been lowered with the introduction of the newbuild Spirit? What was its rating last year, before the Spirit, does anyone know? Just curious.

The Conde Nast poll that "domer" was kind enough to alert us to cannot take many factors in account. For instance, Seabourn and Silversea have large, medium and small ships with suites that differ accordingly. Regent has two size ships and one ship with radically different suites. SeaDream Yacht Club has two small ships and Crystal has 2 larger ones. How is one to make comparisons based on this? I feel that these polls have become meaningless in the area of "suites".

Although subjective, one can rate service, food, and value because, no matter the size of the ship, these items should be consistant. Although Crystal reportedly has excellent entertainment, it cannot really be judged against a ship that carries only 100 or 209 passengers (SeaDream/Seabourn triplets or even Silversea's smaller ships).

Since this is the week leading up to 2011, in addition to wishing all a Happy New Year, I have a suggestion for making CruiseCritic boards more friendly next year. I suggest trying not to argue with someone else's opinion as it is simply an opinion and may be helpful to those reading the board. It would also be nice to respect each other's choice(s) in cruise lines. Crystal, Regent, Seabourn, Seadream Yacht Club and Silversea pay lots of money for advertising. I'm sure they appreciate our giving personal recommendation to friends. . . . but, trying to convert people online is usually met with resistance.

Meow: Many purrs to you!

Here's a good question when considering the results of the Conde Naste survey.

How many of the people on this board have ever voted. I know I never have and I don't read Conde Naste either (unless it happens to be in the dentist's office).

Maybe I'm a little jaundiced in my view but I think a lot depends on how much on magazine advertising an individual company spends!!

I'm happy that Silversea is not rated at #1 as it just gives them another reason to increase the cruise fares and cut back on services.

Yes in the end, the surveys represent the views of those who take the time to fill out the polls.

None of us know how many people take the time to fill them out.

Some cruise lines do consistently receive high marks year after year while some move up and down from time to time.

The one thing I do want to note is that Silversea does its fair share of advertising in Conde Nast and Travel & Leisure as do the other luxury cruise lines such as Crystal, Seabourn, Regent, and others like Sea Dream.

In the end, if you are happy with one or more of the luxury lines that is what is most important.

At the same time, it's always interesting to see how the outcome of the results and there is no question that cruise lines that do finish strongly in the result will mention their rankings in the marketing material they send out.

Again, thank goodness that there is lots of choice out there. It's all good.

Any survey that ranks small ships like River Duchess, River Concerto, River Royale, Viking Neptune (and many, many others) above Silver Cloud (at #34!!!!!!) needs to be taken with at least a pound of salt - or better yet, ignored entirely.

Enough said.

For reference see:

Once again, if you love SS who cares what number it comes in at in some magazine poll?

CruisinGerman

Dear friends:

I read the Spanish, British and U.S. versions of Conde Nast Traveler, as well as Travel & Leisure.

I always read the surveys with interest, but admit that I have never voted.

Do you have to provide true identification details in order to vote?

Can a cruise line purchase a million copies of the magazine and vote a million surveys? Can you vote on the Internet or by SMS?

Getting back to the original poster's comments, I personally think areas such as food and service are very subjective but even most of the people who prefer Crystal also admit without problem that the cabins on other lines such as Seabourn (newer ships) and Silversea are nicer.

Kind regards,

Gunther and Uta

Virgin Voyages falls into one of the most competitive categories; the ‘Large Cruise Ship’ category (ships with capacity of 2,500 to 4,000 passengers).

Norwegian Cruise Line took home the gold for the ‘Mega Cruise Ship’ category (ships with a capacity of 4,000+ massagers) while Viking and Emerald were listed number one for the Medium and Small categories respectively.

About The Condé Nast Reader’s Choice Awards 2023

A beacon of travel excellence.

The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are especially prestigious due to the magazine’s rich history and its affluent, well-traveled readership. With an editorial lens that blends luxury and authenticity, Condé Nast Traveler has been influencing affluent travelers for decades and has a significant impact on consumer choice in the luxury travel market.

Why the Acclaim Matters:

  • The readership encompasses a blend of seasoned and affluent travelers, offering perspectives that are both rich in experience and discerning in expectation.
  • The awards are derived from comprehensive surveys and the insights of a vast pool of travelers, thereby ensuring that the accolades are reflective of a wide spectrum of experiences and preferences.
  • Garnering an award from Condé Nast Traveler propels winners into a global spotlight, attracting attention from both potential customers and industry peers worldwide.
  • Winning in a category signals to consumers that the company provides top-tier service and excellence in its offerings.
  • Recognition by such a venerable institution bestows a mark of quality assurance and reliability in the eyes of both existing and potential customers.

Journey to Success

Despite the initial challenges and mixed reviews that clouded the debut of their initial sailings in 2021, Virgin Voyages has not merely weathered the storm but also charted a triumphant course in the subsequent years.

The line, under the stewardship of recently-appointed CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu , has not only consolidated its position in the market but also enhanced its offering, carving out a unique niche in a well-established industry. Saverimuttu’s predecessor, Tom McAlpin, handed over the helm on September 7, with robust ambitions for growth and profitability now guiding the brand’s vision.

An Award-Winning Journey : 2021-2023

Virgin Voyages’ notable rise in the cruise industry is significantly highlighted by its accumulation of prestigious awards over the past few years.

2023 Accolades:

  • Cruise Critic Cruisers Choice Awards: Multiple awards including Best Overall Cruise Line and Best Dining in the Large Ship Category
  • Cosmopolitan – Must-Visit List: Featured among the Most Exclusive All-Inclusive Resorts
  • Condé Nast Traveler – 2023 Hot List: The Valiant Lady recognized as one of the Best New Cruises in the World
  • Travel + Leisure – World’s Best Awards: Crowned #1 Best Mega-Ship Ocean Cruise Line
  • Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards: #1 Best Large Cruise Ship

In addition, the brand notched commendable recognitions in 2022 , including a No. 2 rank for large ships in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards, and being listed for the best new cruises in the world ( Valiant Lady and Scarlet Lady ) in Condé Nast Traveler’s Cruising Hot List.

Moreover, 2021 saw Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady not only win the Gold award for Best Cruise from Travel Weekly’s Magellan Awards but also get christened as the Best New Cruise Ship in the Cruise Critic Editors’ Picks.

Customer Loyalty at the Forefront

The Virgin Voyages Sailing Club , recognized for being one of the market’s most generous loyalty schemes, reflects the brand’s overarching strategy: to not only entice new sailors but ensure they embark on further voyages with the line.

A Fair-Weather Outlook

Given the awards and acknowledgements showered upon Virgin Voyages over a relatively short timespan, it’s apparent the brand has successfully maneuvered through initial choppy waters to set sail on a smoother, award-winning journey.

With the steadfast leadership of CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu and a swathe of awards decorating the brand’s young history, Virgin Voyages is certainly navigating toward a horizon aglow with potential and promise.

The Conde Nast Union had some great Anna Wintour burns ready for their now-canceled Met Gala protest

Met Gala

The Conde Nast Union was ready to protest at the Met Gala, the haute fashion ball run by the publishing house’s most senior editor, Anna Wintour.

But the demonstration was called off at the 11th hour after the union negotiated some new terms for its members, thus avoiding a scene at the A-List event, which would have seen celebrities having to cross a picket line.

The members had signs with some great Wintour burns ready to unleash outside the bash at the Metropolitan Museum, which the union posted to the union’s Instagram. They included, “Anna’s dress costs more than my annual salary,” and “Anna Wintour can spend $77 on a caprese salad every day, but it’s the workers who have to cut costs?”

Met Gala picket signs

(Anna’s regular lunch order, revealed in Amy Odell’s book “Anna,” is a Caprese salad and steak from The Palm, costing $77.33 with tip.)

One said, “The Devil Wears Sunglasses when she’s laying you off,” a reference to the time in January when the CN chief content officer reportedly wore shades when canning staffers from its digital music title, Pitchfork.

Still another said that health care is considered too expensive by the brand, but “sure, let Anna have her party.”

Conde Nast Union signs

The Met Gala avoided mayhem Monday when CN finally reached a deal with the union at 3AM the day of the high-profile event.

The union represents members of the fashion mag Vogue as well as other publications like Vanity Fair, GQ, Glamour, Bon Appétit, and Architectural Digest. They were also threatening to strike.

A rep for the union would neither confirm nor deny the picket plan, telling us, “As unions we always have multiple plans in place. We had a plan to do whatever it takes – which we did not need thanks to the tentative agreement.”

Anna Wintour

The tentative agreement promises a $61,500 starting salary floor; “expanded bereavement leave, two more weeks of family leave (14 total) and $3.3 million in total wage increases.”

Stan Duncan, Condé Nast’s chief people officer, told Page Six in a statement, “We are happy to have a contract that reflects and supports our core values – our content and journalism; our commitment to diversity and professional development; our industry-leading hiring practices; and our competitive wages and benefits. We look forward to the ratification of the contract by its members.”

This weekend, the Conde union protested alongside the Model Alliance outside the Met Museum for the Fashion Workers Act, which would regulate New York’s model management agencies.

Union deal

About a week ago, union members picketed outside of Wintour’s house with fliers raging, “Anna wears Prada; workers get nada.”

In January, Anne Hathaway walked out of a Vanity Fair cover shoot when members of her union, SAG-AFTRA, joined a one-day walk out in solidarity with unionized Condé staffers. Sources told Page Six at the time that “The Devil Wears Prada” star was in hair and makeup when she pulled the plug on the photo session after a call from SAG.

They have been working on a deal for a year. Last year, they put out of fiery statement before the Met Gala, also known as the Oscars of Fashion, saying the event’s “sparkle comes from our sweat.”

Rihanna

“Behind the cameras, there are hundreds of Vogue workers who are underpaid, undervalued, and overworked,” said the statement.
