Tours to the Holy Land: Trips & Israel Tour Packages 2024, 2025
"Every place we visited was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage. We highly recommend visiting Israel to anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable journey. We had a life-changing time there and are already planning to return." Simon L. and Beatriz G. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024 "I had a wonderful time in Israel. I felt while I was there the precautions that were taken for our safety were well in hand. I still got to experience many holy sites and be blessed by walking the path that Jesus walked. Every day was started in prayer, singing, or scripture reading which also extended the blessing of the trip." Quincie L. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024
Our Israel tours & Holy Land tours of 9-24 days for the Evangelical Protestant Bible believer are what Pilgrim Tours does best. Prepare yourself for a life-changing journey to walk where Jesus walked and visit Jerusalem, Galilee, & Samaria. Each of our Israel tours is led by a local guide who is an experienced expert on the historical, cultural, scenic, and spiritual history of the Holy Land. If you travel with 10 or more people, a private group tour can easily be arranged. Pilgrim Tours can customize an itinerary to fit your group needs with many options to choose from.
Concerned about safety? As a Christian tour operator, the staff at Pilgrim Tours takes a Biblical perspective regarding the current situation in the Middle East. We do not believe that peace in Israel is something that will occur until the Prince of Peace comes to restore His kingdom. Please do not make a reservation with us based on the hopes of a calm future. If you long for the special blessings only available in Israel, we will take you there. An expert driver and guide will carefully keep you from any areas that could present a problem and treat you to the riches of Israel as our special guest.

Featured Sites in Israel
Explore a vast selection of beautiful historical and Biblical locations throughout Israel with our Israel Holy Land tour. You can visit Jerusalem, Galilee, and parts of Samaria, getting the life-changing opportunity to see where Jesus and many other Biblical figures lived and walked. We even offer Holy Land tours that allow you to see the Dead Sea, the Garden Tomb, and the Jordan River Baptism Site. Like all of our Europe tours , our Israel Holy Land tours are led by local guides who have extensive knowledge of the area and its history. If you want to experience the history of Israel and see the Bible come to life, our Holy Land tours give you that opportunity.
The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering, and the Garden Tomb.
Sea of Galilee
Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region have the opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, and Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.
The Dead Sea is not only the lowest and most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10 times saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!
Garden Tomb
Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered by some Protestants to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise, which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.
Jordan River Baptism Site
The Jordan River Baptist Site or “Yardenit” is a baptism site located along the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. This site is frequented by Christian Pilgrims who enjoy imagining the setting of the baptism of Jesus. For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers, and a nice souvenir shop.
Caesarea Philippi
To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell.” Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.
Israel Tours: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best month for the Holy Land tour?
Taking a trip to Israel during the spring or fall offers the most enjoyable weather of the year but normally has the largest crowds. If you want to enjoy a peaceful tour with fewer crowds, consider visiting between December and February or June and August. We offer Israel and Jordan tours throughout the year, so you can select a trip that works for your schedule.
How many days do you need for a Holy Land tour?
We offer several types of tours of the Holy Land, so the duration of your tour depends on the tour package you choose. The Best of Israel Tour is our most basic offering and includes a Sea of Galilee boat ride, a trip to the Jordan River Baptism Site, the Dead Sea, and many opportunities to walk on the same land Jesus walked on. This is our shortest trip at just 9 or 10 days. Our most involved trips allow you to experience a wide range of historical locations over the course of a few weeks. Egypt tours are included in some of these packages, as well as tours in Greece and other countries. These tours can take up to 24 days, giving you the chance to spend an extended period of time learning about and visiting different parts of the world. From our Turkey tours to all of our Israel Christian tours, all of our tours feature a first-class hotel rating for the country you visit. We do offer some upgraded tours that offer better lodging options. You can review our hotel categories at https://www.pilgrimtours.com/company/hotelcomparison.htm . Check out any of our tours to view a day-by-day itinerary and see what amenities are included with each tour.
What is the dress code in Israel?
The dress code in Israel is different from other parts of the world. There are a few dress code basics you should understand before booking Israel tours: When you’re in Israel, there is no strict dress code. You can wear what you feel comfortable wearing. However, both men and women should try to dress conservatively and cover their shoulders and knees when visiting any of the religious sites throughout Israel. Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid tank tops and shorts. Men need to cover their heads when visiting the Western Wall. Pilgrim Tours provides a Pilgrim Tours ball cap upon arrival in Israel, but you might consider purchasing an affordable kippa that you can bring when you visit Jewish sites. Some places may offer a free kippa, but these are generally low quality. (Women are not required to cover their heads at any sight.) You can figure out what you need to pack and how to dress each day by looking at the itinerary for our Holy Land tours. Guides normally offer guidance on how to dress for the next day while on tour. We also suggest looking at the extended weather forecast as you prepare and pack for your trip.
Is there a lot of walking involved on an Israel Tour?
Our Israel tours do require a significant amount of walking each day and you should be able to walk unassisted 3-4 miles per day on average. Make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes that provide adequate support. While there are bus and boat rides during these tours, you have to walk quite a bit to explore some of the Biblical sites. Our tour guides normally give the group a few options at sites for those that have physical limitations. One thing to keep in mind is that there are many hills and valleys in Israel which can make walking even more taxing. The amount of walking you have to do may vary based on the tour you take, so look at the itinerary before choosing your tour. The good news is that Israel is a beautiful country to see on foot, and you’ll have several opportunities to sit down and give your feet a rest. As long as you have a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes, it’s easy to forget about all the walking you’re doing and enjoy the tour.
What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?
U.S. citizens need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity beyond their intended stay to enter Israel. Make two photocopies of your passport. Leave one copy at home and carry the other separately from your original. Israel: U.S. and Canadian Citizens do not need a Visa when entering Israel. Non U. S. /Canadian Citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of destination. Contact your Consulate office for requirements.
What common languages will be spoken during your Israel tours?
Hebrew, Arabic and English.
What currency can I use on your Israel tours?
The U.S. dollar is widely accepted across Israel, and we suggest bringing about $30 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $15-20. It is important to bring about 20 $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. ATMs in Israel are all connected to European and American banking systems. Please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in SHEKELS – NOT U.S. DOLLARS. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.
Do I need to bring a converter for the Israel tour?
Israel uses the European plug with two round pins. You will need to bring along the necessary converters and adapters to operate any 120 volt appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors as well as camera and cell phone chargers. Electricity in Israel is 220 volts 50 Hz.
What is the time zone for your Israel tours?
The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.
What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?
In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year-round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time.

Tour Jerusalem & Israel
Jerusalem is the most popular tourist destination in Israel, attracting millions of tourists and pilgrims from all over the world each year, exploring a vast array of archaeological sites, holy sites, churches, modern museums and of course, Jerusalem’s Old City. Jerusalem holds a special significance for the world’s main three monotheistic religions. For over 3000 years, Jerusalem has remained at the center of Jewish life and prayer. As the holiest city in Judaism, observant Jews world-wide pray three times each day in its direction, towards the site where the Temple once stood. For Christians, the Holy City is sacred as well, as according to Christian tradition, Jerusalem is where Jesus preached, was persecuted, crucified and ultimately resurrected. Jerusalem also remains holy to Muslims, as it is the home to the Dome of the Rock, where, according to Muslim belief, Muhammad ascended to heaven. Beyond the holy offerings here, Jerusalem remains the vibrant, metropolitan capital of the contemporary State of Israel, with plenty going on in terms of arts, academia, world-class dining, architecture, business opportunities, nightlife, culture, tech and staggering urban development projects. So no matter what your beliefs and interests, a tour of Jerusalem and setting foot on the land where both Judaism and Christianity were born can be an eye-opening and informative experience. With four vast quarters surrounded by eight massive gates, the Old City of Jerusalem is a highly popular destination for Jerusalem walking tours. Most Jerusalem tours encompass journeys around the Old City’s four quarters: the Jewish Quarter, the Armenian Quarter, the Muslim Quarter and the Christian Quarter. Because each of these offers different religious, historical and cultural landscapes, each offers a unique experience. For more than 2,000 years, the Western Wall has been standing intact and sturdy, being the primary remnant of the retaining wall that supported the Second Temple in the days of King Herod. The Western Wall is considered to be Jerusalem’s holiest site, attracting millions of visitors every year. Traditionally, visitors insert small pieces of paper with written prayers into the crevices of the wall. Starting at St. Stephen's Gate and ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Christian Quarter is the Via Dolorosa, a path that follows the last footsteps of Jesus as he journeyed from his conviction at Antonia to his crucifixion on Golgotha, now contained within the walls of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The Via Dolorosa remains one of the most popular Jerusalem tours among Christian pilgrims. Who says you need to walk everywhere? New on the Jerusalem touring scene are Segway tours. You can take a tour through the neighborhood of Armon HaNatziv and see beautiful views of the Old City, Dead Sea and more. There’s also an option of a Segway tour of Jerusalem’s green spaces

Jewish Israel Tour Package, 5 Days
We love the entire trip and were happy to cover most of the places in Israel and also some places which were not in the original itinerary. The Guides and drivers were very pleasant throughout the day and ready to help if needed.
Heritage of the Holy Land
Itinerary excellent, Orna our guide was outstanding, My only criticism was the hotel location in Jerusalem- it was just too far out of the city to be able to walk to the sites - my recommendation would be to use one closer to facilities!
Jewish Israel Tour Package, 7 Days

Fantastic tour with a fantastic guide (Eyal)!
Discover Israel
Informative and interesting historical and biblical sites. Accommodations and food were very good and guides and drivers were friendly. Only real glitch was pairing English speaking and Spanish speaking tourists together. Lead tour guide had to repeat everything in both languages. Both sets of tourists were frustrated as it slowed things down. Queue line control at the church of the holy sepulcher was lousy, allowing people to cut lines; and at one point the line didn’t move at all from 3:00 until 4:15. By 5:00, they rushed everyone through — if they maintained flow speed throughout the day instead of just at the end and had more queue line discipline, people could get through faster and suffer less frustration. Jordan river— site near Jericho had putrid looking water; should use a site closer to the Sea of Galilee where the water is cleaner. Dead Sea was disappointing— staff would not allow people to swim or float — only wading.
The Story of the Israeli State - 10 Days
My husband and I had never been to Israel and booked this tour as a “bucket-list” event. Our tour guide, Efraim Native, was the best - he was a history professor, knew philosophy, religion, politics, economics, abd engineering - answering every question we had. He was friendly, helpful and made excellent food recommendations. Our tour covered Tel Aviv (our new favorite city), Haifa, the Golan (do not miss the Hula Nature Preserve), and Jerusalem (Old and New). We added the Masada/Dead Sea tour at the end. Finally, we chose the 5-Star hotel option and stayed in true luxurious accommodations). We will use Tour Radar and Click Tours again!
Past to the Future - The Story of the Israeli State - 11 days
The tour is very well-planned and paced. It gives one exactly what it promises: a chance to view the history of the Jewish people and the state through the major sites and cities.

Galilee, Golan, Caesarea and Nazareth 4 days
We had a fantastic tour to Galilee, Golan, Caesarea, and Nazareth, the guide Tomer was extraordinarily knowledgeable and answer any questions we had. We highly recommend him for your visit to Israel. The communication and the booking process with the booking-tours company were smooth, and all pickup was on time.

We just came back from Israel I would say that we are all happy and satisfied with Booking Tours company. They gave us a very memorable trip and our tour guide Adi is very good explaining to us the history of all the places we have been. The company is very organized from booking our hotels and are easy to deal and communicate. My contact person is Vera Veinberg who is very good communicating with us, and she makes sure that everything will work fine. I would recommend Booking-tours, and we would use them again for a future trip to Israel.

Tours in Jerusalem
There is nowhere on earth quite like Jerusalem – the heart of the Holy Land that is sacred to three religions. Filled with unique landmarks, historic monuments, and religious significance, taking tours in Jerusalem is on most people’s bucket lists, and it’s easy to see why.
If you are visiting Israel, Jerusalem should definitely be one of the top destinations on your itinerary! As you wander the cobblestone streets and narrow alleyways, you will see for yourself why this ancient city is significant to so many. No matter where you look, there is something different and exciting to discover.
Main Sights in Jerusalem
The Western Wall
Also known as the Wailing Wall or Kotel, this is a place of prayer for Jews around the world and is the last remnant of their temple. Many have the custom of bringing notes to God and placing them between the ancient stones of the Wall.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City, this is the most sacred site in the world for millions of Christians. Known as the site of the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus, every corner of this special place is worth exploring.
Mount of Olives
One of the most breathtaking locations in Israel, the views from this location allow you to take in the breadth of the Old City and beyond. The area features the Church of the Holy Ascension, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Church of Mary Magdalene.
City of David
The ancient history of this site is enough reason to visit on its own, but the biggest draw to this location is the tunnel water system. We recommend you take clothing that can get wet, as the water is thigh-deep! There is also a dry route if you prefer.
With exhibits, monuments, sculptures, and memorial sites dedicated to remembrance, Yad Vashem explores the history of the Holocaust thematically and chronologically. Israel’s major Holocaust museum is deeply moving and a must-see in Jerusalem.
Our Guided Tour Options
Attractions such as the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the City of David are just the beginning of what there is to do. Add the bustling markets and enticing foods to the mix, and you won’t know where to look first! With limited time and so much to see, how do you prioritize what matters most to you?
It can be challenging to get to all the must-see sights when you’re a new visitor. Organized tours in Jerusalem help you explore the city the way you want to while gaining a deep understanding of what you are seeing. Explore a combination of the sights you want to see without worrying that you are missing out. You are guaranteed to cover all the highlights.
We offer wonderful options for guided Israel tours, some of our Jerusalem options are our 3-day Jerusalem tour: either classical Jerusalem or Christian Jerusalem . If you only have a day to explore the city, our popular Jerusalem Old City Tour , Jerusalem and City of David Tour , or Jerusalem Old and New will give you an unforgettable time. And those are just a few of the many tours in Jerusalem that we provide! Don’t forget we also offer private tours in Israel , meaning you can explore this beautiful country at your own pace, and enjoy the freedom and convenience of having your own private tour guide.

One of the most visited places in Jerusalem is the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall or Kotel. This is the center of the Old City of Jerusalem and a must-see.
Here at Egged Tours, we provide a large selection of half-day, single day and multiple-day guided tours in Jerusalem. Other destinations include the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, Masada tours , Galilee, and the Golan Heights. If you prefer to combine several destinations, we also offer Israel tour packages for your convenience.
April and May are the best months to visit Jerusalem. Spring is the ideal season for tours in Jerusalem because the weather is pleasant and fewer tourists come to visit. October through November are also mild months when crowds are thin. However, we recommend you check your calendar to make sure your visit does not coincide with major Jewish holidays. You don’t want to come all this way only to find that the site you most wanted to see is closed!
Yes! The Dead Sea is just an hour’s drive from Jerusalem, making these two locations the perfect combination for a day-trip. Our Jerusalem and Dead Sea tour highlights two of the world’s most breathtaking places with a qualified and licensed tour guide, all on the same day.
The best day trips from Jerusalem you can do are to Bethlehem or the Dead Sea: Bethlehem is a popular destination only 45 minutes from Jerusalem and gives you the opportunity to tour the holiest sites in one day. The Dead Sea, a UNESCO-listed wonder, is only an hour away from Jerusalem and is a unique natural phenomenon you won’t want to miss.
Although you could stay forever in Jerusalem without seeing it all, 3 days should be enough to see most of the main sites. And you will always have the chance to see much more the next time you visit!
Guided tours in Jerusalem enhance your trip in so many ways:
- They know the best routes: There is a lot to see and only so much time. Tour guides will plan the trip in the way that makes the most logical sense. Instead of taking circular routes to see all the sites you want to see (and then being disappointed when you miss something), tour guides make sure you see all the places that matter most to you.

Testimonials
I've recently concluded a week-long tour with Ari Melnik, and words fail to express my appreciation for his prowess, intellectual depth, clever wit, and heartfelt warmth. Ari personifies everything one could ever want from a guide and even more! My husband and I, who are in our early sixties, along with our joint family of six children aged between 26 and 30, genuinely felt as though Ari had become an integral part of our family. It was truly disheartening to part ways with him once the week ended. We traversed the country from the North to the South, and Ari proved to be an inexhaustible well of knowledge. He even organized a meeting with an old acquaintance of his who is a politician. Israel boasts of many proficient tour guides who are all knowledgeable. However, Ari is indeed a unique individual who you don't encounter often. He shares his views, kick-starts the day with humor, and enjoys engaging in inclusive discussions. I can assure you that you'll be as captivated by him as we were.
I've been on several of Ari's tours and they are excellent. He is deeply knowledgeable in all things Israel. Tells great stories and provides very insightful commentary throughout. I've referred him to many co-workers for tours as well and everyone has had a great experience. I highly recommend Ari.
An outstanding guide, knowledgeable and very pleasant for trips in Israel. This was such a fabulous tour. Ari is knowledgeable AND fun. He picked us and took us on a very personal tour of two vineyards, where we met the winemakers and heard a lot about the industry, the History of the region. Highly
An outstanding guide, knowledgeable and very pleasant for trips in Israel Ari has led us on several trips in the last few months, and we have always received excellent reviews. We hiked in the mountains of Jerusalem and tasted wine while we were there. At sunset, we toured the beaches and antiquities of Caesarea with tourists from abroad. We also did a classic Jerusalem tour. There was great feedback from each group! Whenever you go on a tour with Ari, you will always learn something new, from history to local stories to connections to different religions. The fact that his English is at a native level helped all our tourist groups feel comfortable and enjoy all the walks with him. Furthermore, he's just a pleasant, fun, and welcoming person - fun to spend days traveling with him. From a logistical perspective, Ari is a gift for me! He has a solution for every situation, whether it is a concept, a route, restaurants, accommodations, or transportation. Every time I need him, he is available, flexible, and helpful. He and his services have always been of great help to me and I look forward to returning to work with him in the future.
An Outstanding day with Ari This was such a fabulous tour. Ari is knowledgeable AND fun. He picked us and took us on a very personal tour of two vineyards, where we met the winemakers and heard a lot about the industry, the History of the region. Highly recommend.
Ari was my family's tour guide in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv for five days this past summer. He was great in every way! He planned our itinerary carefully, including everything that we were interested in seeing and then some. He made all of our hotel arrangements and was able to guide us toward amazing hotels that we absolutely loved! He was able to modify some of our plans easily when it was necessary, due to a work commitment that one of my children had unexpectedly. Ari's suggestions for activities and restaurants were impeccable. Ari was always prompt, totally reliable and always cheerful. He is unbelievably knowledgeable (about Israel's history as well as the history of the United States!), offering a depth of interesting historical details and he was always able to answer our many questions in a thoughtful way. When we return to Israel in the future, I will definitely reach out to Ari again and I recommend his services highly to anyone and everyone who visits Israel!
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful country and beautiful family with us. We appreciated it so much. Cannot wait to see you soon when you visit us in the United States!
In May 2023, our family embarked on a meaningful journey to Israel, commemorating the Bar and Bat Mitzvah of my son and daughter. We had the good fortune to be accompanied by Ari Melnik, an extraordinary tour guide whose attention to detail made our trip unforgettable. Ari's meticulous planning was evident in all aspects of our trip. He organized everything, from our accommodation and engaging activities to delightful dining experiences. He thoughtfully scheduled our activities to avoid crowds and ensure a balanced itinerary. Each restaurant he recommended provided excellent food and a warm, inviting atmosphere. He also took on the responsibility of liaising with our Rabbi and photographer, ensuring a seamless operation of our Bar Mitzvah celebration and the overall journey. With Ari's profound understanding of Israeli history, he adeptly guided us through current political landscapes, reflections on the Holocaust, and visits to ancient religious landmarks in Jerusalem and its surroundings. Our group ranged from age 11 to 78, yet Ari successfully curated an experience that was captivating and suitable for everyone. Ari's insider knowledge and broad network allowed him to share hidden gems and unique experiences throughout our trip. Our time in Israel was truly enhanced by his guidance, and we found ourselves wishing that Ari could accompany us on all our travels. I cannot praise and recommend him strongly enough for the remarkable journey he crafted for us.
Selecting the perfect tour guide for Israel can seem daunting given the myriad of exceptional choices available. Yet, Ari Melnik stands out as an excellent candidate. He embodies the quintessential qualities of a superb guide: punctuality, professionalism, deep-rooted knowledge, and a native's familiarity with the land. In his comfortable vehicle, Ari tailors every experience to the unique needs and interests of each group member, sharing a treasure trove of insights into both modern and historical Israel. During our four-day journey, Ari curated a plethora of memorable moments. These ranged from a crowd-avoiding walking tour of Old Jerusalem to a seamless expedition to Bethlehem with our unforgettable Palestinian guide, Kamal. He also arranged for a tranquil day in the Judean Hills wine country and a riveting antiterrorism training in the West Bank, capped off with a visit to the bustling Tel Aviv food and crafts markets. Our itinerary was as expansive as it was flexible, revealing the unexpected wonders Israel had in store. A connoisseur of the local dining scene, Ari ensured our culinary experiences were just as remarkable, securing reservations at top-tier restaurants in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Considering Ari Melnik for your Israel tour is not just an option, it's a decision you'll be delighted you made.
My encounter with Exclusive Israel Tours completely exceeded my expectations! Ari thoughtfully crafted the perfect journey for our family, taking into account our unique needs and interests. His comprehensive understanding of Israel's people, its culture, and the land, combined with his amiable nature and keen sense of humor, enriched our travel experience enormously. Ari's efforts in accommodating our diverse group, inclusive of varying ages and dietary preferences, were exceptional. As a first-time visitor to Israel, the trip left me with a profound sense of attachment to the country. Ari's educational insights allowed me to truly comprehend its significance and the realities of life within its borders. While extending the duration of the trip is the only enhancement I could imagine, I eagerly anticipate a future opportunity to return and explore more of the wonders of Israel with Ari. His expertise transformed our visit into a cherished gift, revealing the miraculous nature of Israel.
The initial thing that strikes you about Ari is his profound understanding! His expertise in history and the political landscape of Israel, combined with a delightful sense of wit and a deep passion for his country, elevated our tour to extraordinary levels! It's a significant challenge to mobilize a tour bus filled with adults, teenagers, and individuals in their twenties, but Ari managed it effortlessly, ensuring we adhered to our timetable, yet also providing us with options throughout our journey. With Ari, each tour stop extends beyond the typical narratives; we accumulated a wealth of knowledge and garnered a renewed reverence for our Jewish homeland. Kudos to Ari - Truly, you are unparalleled!
Ari epitomizes the ideal tour guide one could ever dream of! His knowledge about Jerusalem is not confined to the basics; he navigates you through the city, unveiling hidden treasures far from the usual tumult, showcasing his extensive familiarity with the routes and the locals. Ari elucidates the history of each site with an incredible level of detail, a quality that perfectly suited me, a student engrossed in studying the history of Jerusalem.

Middle East crisis — explained
The conflict between Israel and Palestinians — and other groups in the Middle East — goes back decades. These stories provide context for current developments and the history that led up to them.

JERUSALEM — Jewish revelers in a Purim parade pass protesters holding placards marking the days since hostages from Israel have been held by Hamas. Outside the church of Gethsemane, Christians clutching candles march after Mass on Maundy Thursday. At Damascus Gate, tens of thousands of Muslims step down stone slopes, carefully watched by Israeli security forces.
It is in Jerusalem where the ancient Jewish Temples stood, and billions of faithful believe Jesus was resurrected and the Prophet Muhammad ascended into paradise.
Amid the war in Gaza and tensions over access to major holy sites, this complex, ancient and diverse city that's central to Judaism, Islam and Christianity has remained largely peaceful.
"The present-day city contains so many religions, ethnic groups, ideologies, national identities ... all rubbing up against each other, but all very separate," says Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman, a former president of Rabbis for Human Rights, an Israeli organization. "Jerusalem holds out the promise of peace, of a shared space. I believe that God has called on all Jews, Christians and Muslims, Palestinians and Israelis ... to find a way to live together and share this holy city."
Over the centuries, Jerusalem has withstood invasions, sieges, attacks, division, reunification — and despite ongoing tensions, it endures as a city where people are able to practice and express their different and deeply held faiths, while adhering to strict rules and restrictions imposed on worship in this shared space.
Tension at Al-Aqsa Mosque is deepening with each day of the Israel-Hamas war
This spring, for the first time in three decades, Ramadan, Easter and Purim — holidays in Islam, Christianity and Judaism — all overlapped within a month-long period. With war raging in Gaza following the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel, fresh restrictions on Palestinians' access to holy sites, and powerful challenges to longstanding rules about Jewish prayer at the Al-Aqsa compound, there were fears that tensions might flare uncontrollably and ignite violence in Jerusalem.
But the holidays passed with few incidents. Here are images showing the city during a holy month, and some of the people living, visiting and worshiping there.

Israel ‘making decision to act’ after Iran attack, says Cameron on Jerusalem visit
UK foreign secretary is probably first non-Israeli politician to admit military reprisal is inevitable but urges Israel not to escalate
David Cameron has said it is clear Israel is “making a decision to act” in response to last weekend’s Iranian mass drone and ballistic missile attack, as Benjamin Netanyahu brushed off calls for restraint and said his country would make its own decisions about how to defend itself.
Lord Cameron, the UK foreign secretary, speaking on a visit to Jerusalem, said he hoped the Israeli response would be carried out in a way that minimised escalation.
“It’s right to have made our views clear about what should happen next, but it’s clear the Israelis are making a decision to act,” he said after meeting the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog. “We hope they do so in a way that does as little to escalate this as possible,” he added, becoming the first non-Israeli politician to openly admit that some kind of military reprisal is inevitable.
Cameron later met Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, who made it clear Israel would reach its own decisions on its security.
Speaking at the beginning of his cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Netanyahu said: “I thank our friends for their support for the defence of Israel … They also have all kinds of suggestions and advice, I appreciate it, but I want to make it clear: we will make our own decisions, and the state of Israel will do everything necessary to protect itself.”
Cameron met Netanyahu and Herzog alongside the German foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock. She was on her eighth visit to Israel since the Hamas attack on 7 October, in which 1,200 people were killed and 253 taken hostage, which prompted the Israeli offensive in Gaza that has so far killed an estimated 34,000 Palestinians.
Britain, in conjunction with the US and its European allies, has been pressing Israel not to mount a full-scale reprisal for Iran’s attack. Cameron has urged Israel to be governed by its head as well as its heart and to regard the destruction of most of the Iranian missiles and drones directed at Israel over the weekend as a win.
He argued it was more important to focus on freeing the remaining hostages from Hamas, getting aid supplies to the Gaza Strip and achieving a ceasefire in the conflict. He said he wanted to press for this in talks with the Palestinian Authority. Rishi Sunak delivered a similar message by phone to Netanyahu on Tuesday.
A No 10 spokesperson denied that Cameron’s admission that Netanyahu would take some form of action represented a snub for those lobbying the Israeli leader to show restraint – including Sunak.
Asked whether the government was disappointed that Israel seemed intent on a military response, the spokesperson said: “We’ve always said that Israel has got a right to defend itself. But clearly, we want to see all sides exercise restraint. So obviously it’s a decision for Israel but if Israel decided to act and respond, we urge them to do so in a way that avoids a significant escalation.”
In a statement issued by Herzog’s office after the meeting with the two foreign ministers, Herzog said the leadership in Tehran was endangering stability in the entire region with its actions. “The entire world must act decisively and defiantly against the threat by the Iranian regime,” the statement said.
Cameron is also due to hold talks with Mohammad Mustafa, the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority.
One of the side-effects of the Iranian assault has been to reduce some of the pressure on Israel to do more to improve humanitarian aid flows into Gaza. The UK remains deeply concerned that if the media and diplomatic pressure is eased, Israel may not fulfil the pledges it made a fortnight ago to Joe Biden to allow more aid in through more crossings.
Iran has daily threatened a severe and major escalation if Israel does launch an attack, insisting it will provide no advance warning, as it did over the weekend. But officials admit Iran’s response will be calibrated according to Israel’s own attack, with one factor being whether it is directed on Iranian soil or instead seeks to attack Iranian assets in Syria and elsewhere.
At the annual military parade in Tehran, the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, told Israel that even the “smallest invasion” would lead to a “massive and harsh” reaction. Iran’s attack last weekend had only limited targets, Raisi said, adding that a larger attack could hit Israel much harder.
The latest round of tit-for-tat violence broke out on 1 April when Israel killed seven Iranian commanders, including two Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) generals, in Iran’s consulate in Damascus. Some Israeli sources have said the target was legitimate since the Iranians were using the building to mount attacks on Israel, thus losing the diplomatic immunity provided by the Vienna convention.
The US state department said on Tuesday it was still carrying out an investigation into whether the consulate was a diplomatic building or not. The US said it was relying on intelligence capabilities and allies on the ground to ascertain the true purpose of the building.
Cameron said he wanted to see coordinated sanctions against Iran, and that would be the key purpose of a G7 foreign ministers’ meeting starting formally on Thursday in Capri, Italy. He argued Iran must be “given a clear, unequivocal message” over its support for Hamas, its Lebanon-based ally Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. “I hope that will happen at the meeting,” he said.
Iran is already under probably the heaviest sanctions in the world. The most effective way to further punish it would be to hit the Chinese banks and energy firms involved in importing Iranian oil, the single largest revenue earner for Tehran, but the Biden administration is reluctant to become embroiled in a sanctions war with China and does not want to see petrol prices rise in the midst of a presidential election.
Britain is also pressing Israel to realise that the nascent anti-Iranian sentiment in the Gulf states provides an opportunity for Israel to forge stronger links with Arab nations, so isolating Iran.
Tensions between Jordan and Iran have emerged over Jordan’s decision to knock out Iranian drones heading for Israel. It has also been reported that Egypt was still negotiating with Iran three hours before the attack was launched, saying it was seeking understandings from Israel over a ceasefire and an Israeli commitment not to attack Rafah.
Iranian diplomats insisted they wanted a UN security council statement condemning the Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate, but Washington rejected the proposal.
It was also reported in the Iranian media that it was the IRGC, not the Iranian foreign ministry, that summoned the conduit for Iranian-US relations, the Swiss ambassador in Tehran, at 3am on Sunday to convey the message that Tehran was prepared to go further if the US intervened.

Israelis Prepare to Mark Passover, a Festival of Freedom, With Hostages Still in Gaza
Many Jews say they will adapt their Passover rituals around the Seder table this year to fit the somber mood of a country at war.

Many Israelis were in a somber mood on Monday as they prepared to usher in Passover, the Jewish festival of freedom, saying they would mark the holiday rather than celebrate it, with more than 130 hostages remaining in Gaza.
The number of hostages believed to be alive is unclear, and with negotiations with Hamas captors at an impasse, there is little prospect of their imminent release.
The holiday is to start after sundown on Monday with the traditional Seder meal. By tradition, this is a joyful gathering of family and friends who follow a ritual order of blessings over symbolic foods as they retell the biblical story of the bondage and suffering of the ancient Israelites in Egypt and their exodus and liberation.
Israelis are still jittery after an exchange of fire with Iran this month, the first time Tehran had directly attacked Israel from Iranian territory. And the country continues to mourn the roughly 1,200 people the Israeli authorities say were killed in the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, which prompted six months of deadly fighting in Gaza so far. More than 250 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the start of Israel’s ground invasion in late October, the military says. More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war, according to Gaza health officials.
Daily tit-for-tat attacks over the northern border with Lebanon have turned a portion of Israel into a no-go zone . Tens of thousands of residents of northern and southern Israel remain in temporary accommodations, having been evacuated from their homes.
“We will mark the Seder night for the children,” said Irit Feingold, 35, a pedagogic instructor for preschoolers who was attending a rally for the hostages in Jerusalem on Saturday night, and was planning to spend Monday night with about 25 members of her extended family.
“We will talk about leadership, freedom and staying free, and everybody can share what they feel,” she said.
Many families like Ms. Feingold’s have been holding emotionally charged conversations about how to commemorate the holiday, with some saying they preferred not to conduct a Seder at all.
“Every festival is another milestone showing how we aren’t whole,” Ms. Feingold said, adding that it was imperative to resist sliding back into normalcy and routine. Her husband, a soldier in the reserves, is to return to Gaza after the holiday.
The organization representing most of the families of the hostages is urging families to place an empty chair at their table with a portrait of a hostage or a yellow ribbon. Traditionally, Jews leave an empty chair at the Seder for Elijah, the biblical prophet revered as the harbinger of hope and redemption.
“All of the symbolic things we do at the Seder will take on a much more profound and deep meaning this year,” said Rachel Goldberg-Polin, whose son, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, a dual citizen of Israel and the United States, was taken captive into Gaza after his arm was blown off during an assault on a roadside bomb shelter . He had taken refuge there after fleeing the Tribe of Nova music festival.
Mentioning the salt water that is part of the Seder ritual to represent the tears of the Israelites while they were in bondage in Egypt, Ms. Goldberg-Polin told reporters she would be participating in a Seder with close friends and family, “and they have been very clear that if 15 minutes in we just can’t do it, and we need to cry, then we will cry.”
Hundreds of survivors from Kibbutz Be’eri, one of the border villages that was attacked on Oct. 7, were planning to hold a communal Seder in a Tel Aviv square that has become a focal point for the campaign to free the hostages.
A quarter of the residents of another border village, Nir Oz, were either killed or kidnapped. Avner Goren, a son of founders of the communal village, wrote a poem comparing the Israeli people to a fruit salad — some sour, some sweet — to celebrate the country’s multicultural mix for a version of the Haggadah that Nir Oz produced in the late 1990s.
Mr. Goren was killed on Oct. 7. His wife, Maya Goren, was kidnapped and taken to Gaza and has been declared dead. Addressing the rally in Jerusalem on Saturday night, Rabbi Binyamin Lau said he intended to sit at the Seder table with his family, an empty chair with a picture of his friend Alex Dancyg, a Holocaust expert from Nir Oz who remains a hostage, and a fruit salad.
Rabbi Lau, himself the son of a Holocaust survivor, said, “We are a people that tells a story at any time, under any conditions.”
