Everything about Contiki is deeply rooted in our two values ‘Make Every Moment Count’ and ‘We’re About People’. We don’t just talk, we walk the walk and live by our brand philosophy of ‘ Travel.Together. ’ which means to travel with one another, with the destinations we visit, the people and cultures we enjoy and the environment.

You’ve never experienced travel like this.

Why only 18-35?

Focusing on 18-35 year olds allows us to tailor a dramatically more powerful travel experience and an itinerary so fun it feels like all of your best Friday nights combined.

Tailoring to select ages brings together like minded, likeable people, and allows us to use Social Travel planning to build great groups of people so fast you’ll wonder if you’ve been friends forever.

What destinations can I go to with Contiki?

From 2022 your good time will be good for the planet as all Contiki trips are carbon natural. Find out more here.

How many other travellers are on each trip?

Group sizes are completely dependent on where and how you choose to travel with Contiki.

In Europe and in most of North America and New Zealand, group sizes can range between 24 – 53 awesome travellers.

In regions like Asia, Australia, Africa and Latin America, and on some North America and New Zealand trips, our group sizes are considerably smaller – as low as 12 or up to 30 travellers max.

Detour trips offer a different type of experience and max out at 16 people led by a local host.

Wondering what is so great about travelling together? Check out the Contiki Social travel page.

Each group is administered according to our strict Covid policies which can be viewed here.

Can I book online?

You certainly can! All of our trips are available to book online, just select your preferred travel date(s) and away you go. You can also book over the phone if you'd prefer.

What’s included?

All essential trip elements have been catered to ensure a great time, with great people in great places. But you mean more specifically right?

Your accommodation, essential trip transport, and a good handful of meals are included in the cost of your Contiki trip (on most trips we offer breakfast every day, plus a hand-picked selection of authentic and tasty meals).

To fill your days and Insta feeds we have Included Experiences, which are basically the sights and activities we think you just can’t afford to miss. Of course you also get our expert and highly trained team of Contiki staff to support throughout.

A day by day breakdown of inclusions and Free Time Add-Ons are available on the trip specific pages.

We always try to accommodate special requests such as birthdays, proposals etc. Please chat to our team and we can explore how we may support the request.

What’s not included?

Contiki social travel trips have a large degree of flexibility built into them to enable you to truly own your experience. This means that some trip elements are not included in the initial cost and may require additional budgeting.

Flights to and from your starting and ending points are not included in the cost of your trip. These can be added on during the booking process either online or via our contact center or booked independently by you.

Each trip contains the right amount of free time for you to explore or indulge your travel desires. We offer Free Time Add-Ons, which are additional experiences that are not included in the overall price. These add ons are highlighted on the specific trip page. Your Trip Manager will highlight these to you and organise their booking on trip. Exceptions may apply where pre booking is required but this will be made known to you in your pre departure information.

A number of meal times are left open for you to explore a region and its foodie offerings in greater detail, so budgeting for your taste in non-catered meals is important.

Travel insurance and visas are also not included in the cost of your trip, and should be booked separately.

What are Contiki's sustainability credentials?

Travel comes with responsibilities. That’s why we’re determined to travel sustainably and consciously, and that’s why we’re willing to take a stand on issues closest to our hearts. Find out more details here . With the help of our four-point Climate Action Plan, we're now on a journey to Net Zero - committing to carbon reductions and evolving to support the transition to a low-carbon future. Find out more details here .

Do I need to purchase travel insurance for this trip?

Yes! It’s a requirement of traveling with Contiki that you take out comprehensive insurance cover for cancellation, personal injury, death, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, evacuation expenses, personal liability & loss of personal property and Covid related expenses before you travel with us. It’s also super important to check that your insurance covers all of the activities you’ll be trying out, particularly any adventure activities (for all you adrenaline junkies). For more information check out our full travel insurance FAQs.

Can I stay in my destination a few days before/after the trip starts/ends? And can Contiki help me arrange this?

Sample SOUTHEAST ASIA Itineraries: 5, 6, 7 Days

Sample SOUTHEAST ASIA Itineraries: 5, 6, 7 Days

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double-check with the concerned establishments for the latest updates.

We always encourage people to stay longer at destinations, but we all know that’s not possible for everyone. When we were just starting out, when we were still juggling our corporate and travel careers, we were only able to travel on weekends. And the truth is, most of our readers are like that: full-time employees who can only afford to take a leave of absence for a week (or shorter) at a time.

Those who can only spare 7 days to travel tend to try to see as much as they can. It’s no surprise that the topic of this post is one of the most requested by our followers. Southeast Asia is a favorite region for vacationers because it’s cheap, exotic, tourist-friendly, and if you’re an ASEAN resident, close to home. Every day, we get messages asking for sample Vietnam-Cambodia or Cambodia-Thailand or Singapore-Malaysia itinerary. So here it is: a compilation of sample multi-country routes!

In this post, we’ll be focusing on countries in continental Southeast Asia that are best explored by land: Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, and even Singapore (it’s an island, we know, haha). Although it is possible to travel to Myanmar by land, the most convenient way of reaching it is still by plane. For Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, and Malaysian Borneo, we’ll be creating separate posts for them.

Important notes:

  • The sample itineraries here are all multi-country , which means you will be crossing a border at one point during the trip. If you’re an ASEAN resident, no need for visa. If not, make sure you do the necessary paperwork.
  • There is an Estimated Budget per itinerary. These estimates assume that you are a group of two traveling in off-peak season, that you will be staying at a double room of a budget hotel or hostel, and that you will be splitting costs.
  • Every budget estimate has a good allowance to give you a bit more flexibility.
  • Hotel Stop means the city where you will be spending the night. Even if most of your day is spent in Malacca but you will be spending the night in Kuala Lumpur, it will be tagged Kuala Lumpur.
  • Tours are done DIY-style . But if you want to join a group tour for comfort, we’ve provided links below so you can book in advance.
  • If your hostel or hotel does not serve free breakfast, visit the supermarket on your first day to buy food (biscuits, drinks, bread).
  • We’re using major airport hubs as entry and exit points — Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, and Bangkok — because tickets to these airports are usually the cheapest.
  • Useful links are provided for each sample itinerary . This will allow you to book bus transfers or tours. Hotel recommendations are also provided towards the end of this post.
  • Airfare is not included in the estimate .

All the plans sound great. Loved the first one as I dig BKK and SR of course, and have yet to visit that Thai town although I have heard good things about it. The $ sounds about right too. Isn’t it fun to travel on the cheap in SE Asia?

Loving my time with fam and friends back in NJ now but goodness I never quite get used to seeing a $70 bill at a decent Italian restaurant in town and thinking me and my wife eat for that amount for a whole freaking month at the local Buddhist veggie haunt in Chiang Mai, for 2. Amazing. And that’d be 3 curries, big heaping serving of rice and cold water. For 30 plus days.

Thanks for sharing :)

Me and my girlfriend will have a 7 days vacation in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)-Thailand (Bangkok). What is a good itinerary that will fit within that short period of time?

Thank you so much!

Yosh Dimen

Will you be flying from KL to Bangkok? Because 7 days might be too short if you want to transfer overland. It’s possible but physically demanding.

Raji

Hi, your blog is really helpful. May I ask if there are terminal fees if opt to travel by plane instead of land within southeast Asia. In the Philippines, we do have terminal fees if we leave the airport. Is it the same for other southeast Asian countries? Thanks in advance!

Hi Lizette! As far as I remember, usually nakasama na sya sa ticket na binayaran mo.

Hi! what’s the best place to visit in Vietnam? I might do Vietnam-Cambodia but under 7days. Is that too short of a visit?

If you only have 7 days and you’re also visiting Cambodia, I recommend Mui Ne + HCMC.

Vince

Hello, Yoshke.

I’m planning to do Thailand-Cambodia late this year but instead of Bangkok, I’m planning to visit Chiang Mai. Have you been on this route? My worries is the transportation from Chiang Mai to Siem Reap, so I’m considering going back to Bangkok then depart with the bus going to Siem Reap.

I’ve done the Siem Reap – Bangkok – Chiang Mai route.

Your entry point is Bangkok and your exit is Siem Reap?

Jin

We booked Siem Reap (entry) to Thailand (exit) this coming August 1-6. Any suggestion for an itinerary including where to stay and eat?

Rouf

Hi Sir.I would like to know about something. I am From Bangladesh and working in Malaysia. I have a vacation for 12 days ahead . so I would like to visit to Thailand, Indonesia Cambodia (Singapore if possible ) now my question is how can I make to easy or is it possible to get visa one after another? my visa is a single entry visa. I want to travel to those mentioned countries within 12 days. what are requirements? Tq

Hi Rouf, unfortunately, I’m not familiar with the visa policy of these countries for Bangladesh nationals. My knowledge is limited to my personal experience but I can visit those countries visa-free. :(

Nicole Ong Chua

Good day. I’m a Filipino citizen and a graduate student. I would like to ask what are the things I need to bring with me at the immigration if I am to travel Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia? My plan of entry point is Vietnam while my exit point is Thailand.

Will this be your first international trip? If so, this might help: https://www.thepoortraveler.net/2013/03/philippines-first-timer-international-flight-travel-guide-abroad/

Hello! Kaya kaya 15 days, Vietnam-Thailand-Cambodia-Malaysia-Singapore na itinerary? Planning na viet and entry point then singapore and departing point.

Or what ASEAN countries do you think is a must visit para i summarise nlng yung travel plan?

Although may nakakagawa naman na nyan, for me, baka too short ung 15 days for 5 countries.

Kung ako yung may 15 days tas first ASEAN backpacking trip ko, I’d probably focus on Bangkok-Siem Reap-Ho Chi Minh-Mui Ne.

trip singapore malaysia thailand 2022

We had an exceptional 11-day trip to Vietnam and Thailand that surpassed all expectations. We traveled with our entire family of 5 including our son who was adopted from Vietnam, going back for the first time. Top Asia Tour, with the help of Lily, fashioned a perfectly balanced trip of tours, an excursion to his birth town and orphanage, down time, and excursions. My teenage boys loved the experience from beginning to end

An Excellent Short Tour Firstly, our tour guide David has provided support and comfort beyond his expectations and his role. He has bought everyone under his arm looking after each and every one. Has always been there even in odd times to finding out or arranging best of what's needed.  The experience and transports and accomodation has been great, different and memorable, doubt we would have done this as an individual trip.

The amazing experience of a lifetime! My 23-yo daughter and I had the experience of a lifetime on this trip. I am an experienced traveler but for our first time in Thailand I decided to book an organized tour and it was fabulous.

Riding in Tuktuks allowed for open-air excitement on the curvy mountain roads & accommodations were wonderful thanks B team for everything!

What a trip! Thank you for arranging such a fantastic trip to Thailand. This was my first holiday since the pandemic. Our guide Linda was amazing from the minute we met to saying our goodbyes. What a great way to discover a country with someone so knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. She made sure we were all ok, healthy and happy with any suggestions she made. It was so nice to be with someone so full of energy - all week, with 9 of us! And so caring. Linda also gave us flexibility in what we wanted to do so it really felt like we were friends on a trip with someone who knew what she doing. I would highly recommend a trip like this and I will be looking to book my next tour next year. It’s nice to not have to think about every step of the trip as I usually work out my own itinerary and try to see as much as possible when I visit a country, but this was all taken care of and I definitely experienced things I wouldn’t have been able to were I alone. The quality of accommodation and transport was fantastic as well. See you next year!

honestly the best! The Thai Experience trip with the tour operator was honestly the best! There was so much included in the trip and the accommodation was top notch. The guide was really well organised and lovely! We've already booked to go to Sri Lanka next year.

Excellent Both Jose and Nancy are very friendly, funny, responsible, trustworthy, and well-organized people, who love their job. I'm feeling lucky that exactly they were my tour guides. I strongly recommend them. Also thanks to TopAsiaTour, you really make me a lifetime trip to Asia. Definitely will travel with TopAsiaTour again.

So glad I booked to travel to Thailand through TopAsiaTour . Amazing activities, an awesome tour guide and everything was stress-free, didn’t have to worry about a thing. There was a good mix of culture, fun and chilled time. I’ve made friends for life during the tour and cannot wait for my next tour with Top Asia Tour!

We had the best time! I went on the Thai Experience Tour arranged by Top Asia Tour and I can't recommend it more! I had the best time traveling with an amazing bunch of people. Before this trip I was a first-time solo traveller. The accommodation, the food and all the activities were so well planned and special. My highlights were the floating bungalows, the visit to the Elephant Sanctuary and the Sarana Bungalows. My tour guide Ben was awesome and always around whenever we needed him and he made sure we had the best time!

My experience with Top Asia Tour Best of Thailand 9 Day tour was phenomenal. We got to do so many activities while still having some free time to explore on our own. Every activity was perfectly timed, incredibly well done and organized, and all the guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made sure every person had an amazing time. I would definitely love to travel with TopAsiaTour again.

Grace came and picked us up from the airport in Bangkok she was really friendly messaging us to make sure we knew she would be there and she got the taxi to the hotel with us and told us what there was in the area for us to see. She was always contactable for any questions or problems even before our tour started. We then met Ming and Oat the following day on the first night of the tour who were so friendly and took the time to get to know us and spend the time with us. We also met our tour guide Gun who is so friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable. Grace, Ming, Oat and Gun have made this whole experience amazing with their support, fun and knowledge of the places. They were all constantly taking pictures of our group having fun and making memories that will last a lifetime. The first 8 days with Ming, Grace and Oat were so lovely as they are doing such a great job, they are all going to be such great tour guides! Nothing was ever too much to ask any of them and they always checked to make sure you are okay! Thank you to all of them for making the experience amazing!

Dec 11 ,2019

A great overall trip, we were able to see the countries and learn a lot of the history in the areas. The highlights for me were the personal encounters with the local people and being able to see how they live.

The guides were polite, courteous, knowledgeable, and had good fun. They were happy to fit in a few extra stops/sights that customers were keen to visit. Great accommodation and a wide range of activities, sights and experiences provided. Excellent experience all around.

Sep 27 ,2019

Excellent organisation. Great hotels, well chosen restaurants. Knowledgeable tour guides, especially Laki in Vietnam who went out of his way to make sure we were informed and entertained

Sep 21 ,2019

Wow! Wow! Every single second of this trip was incredible! Our local guide was down to earth, helpful and really easy to talk to. She went above and beyond for us and made everything just a little bit more special.

Aug 13 ,2019

A well-planned tour took in some excellent places and sights. Hotels were to the standard expected, and some exceeded. Our tour guide, York, was superb - very knowledgeable, informative with a great sense of humour. Would certainly recommend Top Asia Tour

Aug 06 ,2019

We really loved Thailand and Laos, the accommodation was great and the trips excellent as were both our guides the only reason for not giving 5 stars is because when we arrived in Bangkok early morning after a sleepless flight we were told our room would not be ready till 2pm. We were exhausted but had to wait in the reception for 4-5 hrs even though the hotel was half empty due to coronavirus. We did understand that is hotel's regulation. I would just like to say that our guide Ken was exceptional. He helped us to communicate with the hotel and let us check in around 10 a.m. He also would not leave us until we were at the airport with tickets in hand. I really do hope that you recognise his dedication and professionalism.

May 20 ,2019

This was my third tour. As a single traveller I always feel safe and welcomed. Amazing to see three countries in two weeks. The guides were exceptional.

Apr 18 ,2019

Yes, I would recommend TopAsiaTour and use again. Lily who helped me with my booking was friendly and efficient and took her time to sort out any queries I had. She also kept contact with us during trip to ensure we had a good time. All the guide and drivers are patient and kind. TopAsiaTour offer great holidays and we would certainly use them again.

Apr 07 ,2019

I Just have to share an amazing adventure I experienced not so long ago in Phi Phi islands. I wanted to do something different so I decided to do the Antrek jungle trek !! wow, that was probably one of the best things I did! We trekked in the jungle, side by side with monkeys and beautiful nature!! We walked to the highest top of the island, down to an paradise lonely beach where we could swim and watch the most beautiful sunset I saw!!

Mar 08 ,2019

We started our tour in Phuket city where we met up with Gun at our hotel, had a few hours to settle in and have a look around, dinner was lovely on Patong beach, had a wander around the town and filled in with culture about the surroundings from Gun

Feb 22 ,2019

Jeremy was great! He had lots of energy and kept the group upbeat even in bouts of long travel. Great experiences of the nightlife throughout this trip, and a good organized way to see different areas. We definitely could not have seen Thailand without Jeremy! He was intuitive to everyone's needs and very welcoming. Definitely made lifelong friends on this trip! The accommodation was comfy beds with subpar bathrooms but that's Thailand! Traveling was hard but not much Top Asia Tour could do about that, they kept it organized! Thanks for the great memories!

Feb 13 ,2019

We have been planning a trip with Top Asia Tour for the past few weeks. 3 girlfriends and I are traveling to Thailand in January. We started looking at big bus trips, since we don’t know the country or language but didn’t like the restrictions of doing only what they had on their itinerary. I research trips thoroughly and discovered Top Asia Tour. Again, I researched them as much as possible but didn’t find any red flags so started working with Joyce. What a wonderful experience! She is very professional and pleasant. She adjusted our itinerary, answered all questions, and organized an amazing trip. She answered promptly. I was a little hesitant about working with a company in China, but the deposit was made through PayPal which made me feel better. I will post again when we return, but I anticipate a fabulous trip. Thank you, Joyce, for all your help! I hope I can work with you again in the future.

Dec 05 ,2018

Our guide was so helpful and knowledgeable. She helped us with our ongoing travel as well. She gave us advice with any other activities the whole way through. Busy itinerary with time for chilling as well.

Nov 30 ,2018

We thought the tour was well-planned and organised. We enjoyed eating most meals in local restaurants. Yes, we would consider TopAsiaTour tours again. We found all three guides very good, they were informative and genuinely interested in telling us about their respective countries.

Nov 06 ,2018

From when our guide picked us up at Bangkok until we left Laos the holiday was well organized and with a good range of activities. The guides were very knowledgeable. The only drawback to the holiday was that being vegetarian we seem to have well-cooked but rather bland tasting dishes. Eating at different restaurants meant that we quite often had similar dishes throughout the holiday.

Oct 25 ,2018

We loved the full itinerary with York throwing in a few little extras like stopping in a field to watch the farmers harvesting rice and thenbeing offered a chance to have a go. Good vallue for money with so much packed into the itinerary and good flights

Feb 14 ,2018

Amazing! I really enjoyed every part of it. Thailand, the accommodations, the tour itinerary, arrangement & our guide were all incredible.

Dec 03 ,2017

We had 22 wonderful days in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Every time we arrived in a new place, there was always someone waiting for us. This really comforted us a lot. Reduce our nervous feeling in a totally strange place with no language understanding. We were picked up from the airport with our luggage stored in a van every time then assisted on hotel check-in and toured with our private chauffeur and tour guide. Our tour guides are very professional and knowledgeable about their country and history and made us feel very welcome and relaxed like touring with old friends.

Nov 15 ,2017

Culturally Rich, Busy Programme - Loved it! The tour is short but with a busy programme and lots to see so you feel you get the most out of this 7 days itinerary. Enjoyed the tour. Thanks

Mar 06 ,2017

For anyone that wants adventure and a fabulous experience, I would suggest the 11 day Thailand Experience tour with Top Asia Tour. So much fun. Words cannot express how wonderful the guides were, and how they took care to keep us safe and teach us about the beautiful country of Thailand. Lots of walking, but at 75 years old, I did fine. So many places that most tourists don’t even know exist. . So very happy I did this trip.
