Wonderful trip to Cairo!
We had a wonderful trip to Cairo, Egypt. Mina Ramsis was our main contact in planning the trip. He was responsive and knowledgeable to help plan the trip to our liking. Our main point of contact was Abdel during our stay. He was always punctual and informing us on any changes in our schedule. Abdel was always willing to add suggestions of local places to go. The tour guide, Ahmed, took us through museums, the pyramids and other site seeing. We really enjoyed his way of sharing information and making it interactive. We learned so much about Egypt and the culture during our stay. Ahmed was able to answer any questions we had.

Communication
there is only 1 thing that we have recommendation for the tour - on our 1st day in Istanbul, the tour guide came late without any communication. we understand there are circumstances that tour starts late but we need to know what to expect. We were left waiting in the lobby for 20' know nothing about the late before reaching out to the urgent contacts for information. the tour guide came half an hour later... if this could be improved, that makes the trip even better

From my first expression of interest in going to Cappadocia to the final leg of the journey there was exceptional help and clear concern by the team at Memphis Tours to tailor a trip that suited my needs. The guides met me at the airport on arrival and assisted me through airport procedures each time there was a flight. These guides took an interest in me as a person not just me as a number in the crowd. The guide at Cappadocia (Elife) was exceptional in her knowledge of ancient cultures, traditions, geography and history. We got on so well together because of our common interest in cultures, traditions and history. She also helped me to navigate the airport procedures and to make sure I was comfortable in the airport environment before she departed. The tour of the Bosphorus, spice market etc, was very enjoyable. The heat made it a bit draining on me but my guide made sure I was ok each step of the way. I was delighted that the guide who met me on arrival in Türkiye was there at the end to take me through the airport procedures. Fatih was so warm and welcoming, reassuring and very interesting to talk to about modern culture and holding on to the traditions. The Latitude Team were very professional, caring and sensitive to my needs. The drivers were excellent and all but one had a supply of cold drinking water on board for people in the heat. Cappadocia is a must to go on your bucket list. The HotAir Balloon ride was the highlight but the culture and food was amazing too. If you want to put this on your future bucket list of things to do, then you must contact Memphis Tours (Miriam) and ask to go with Latitude Group in Türkiye. Exceptional experience!

Our Dubai Girls Trip
From start to finish, our trip was fabulous! Fady worked with our planner to make a memorable vacation/ birthday celebration. We book private tours. I would highly recommend using their service. We spent two days being shown around by Amr. He spoiled us with his attentiveness. In fact n each of our tour guides made us feel cared for, seen, and heard. Highly recommend Fatima at Memphis Tours
Fatima has been amazing at helping me plan what I’m sure will be the trip of a lifetime. Due to a serious illness that my wife had to get through, my planning with Fatima was on-again off-again over more than two years. When I was finally able to get back with her she took up right where we left off and has been extremely helpful to plan our trip. I don’t normally recommend things to others but I wholeheartedly recommend Fatima at Memphis Tours.

No to Memphis Tours
I planned a trip through Zicaasso/Memphis Tour in 2020 right before the pandemic. Needless to say we postponed the trip after paying our deposit. We decided to try again this year since we to use our deposit. I had nothing but trouble trying to get our agent, Mohammed Abdeltawab to reply to my requests. I had to go through Zicasso to get him to reply. Since Egypt relies so heavily on tourism, you would think they would bend over backwards for their clients. We tried for several months to get our tour planned. After not getting timely answers we finally forfeited our deposit and went with another company who anwsers our questions within minutes. Even after we said we were cancelling he never commented.

Morrocco's best Tour Consultant
We recently planned a trip to Morrocco with Memphis Tour consultant Ms. Alaa Mohamed. This was our second trip with Memphis (our first was Egypt in 2022). Alaa was extremely helpful and professional throughout the whole booking and planning process. Her responses to any questions or queries were always answered very promptly and thoroughly. She was also very personable, friendly and kind. She was without doubt the best Tour Consultant I have ever dealt with. Thank you Alaa for all your wonderful help!

Best experience ever with Basma Elmahdy
We started communicating with Basma Elmahdy to plan our trip. We thought that was the sales person and we would never talk to her again but she became our every step person. Not only the payment but we talk to her in detail about the places we for sure wanted to see. Well she customized our itinerary and ended up being the most perfect experience. Anything we needed she helped us. If you like to see my full review with the names of all of the tour guides, places and pictures go to TripAdvisor. Basma and Memphis tours deserve ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If I could do 10 ⭐️ I would.

Amazingggggg
I don’t even know how to begin …. This was an amazing experience with my group of 24 to dubai, thank you. The entire Memphis tours team were exceptional starting with Mina (🙏🏿), to Yosuri and his team and finally with our tour guide Mahmoud. They were all very attentive, answered every question (trust me I had tons due to the size of the group). I am definitely impressed and will be using your services again in the nearest future, by God’s grace. Thank you again.

Memphis tours are just a load of…
Memphis tours are just a load of exaggeration. Tours and accomodations are sold under 5 star banners but all our accomodations have been 3 stars. We paid a lot of money based on the advertised accomodations and facilities but the actual hotels have been nothing but disappointment. We were sold Movenpick hotel in Cairo and were placed in Sadie hotel. You can check and compare the two for yourself.

Amazing Turkey
I had done a trip to Turkey including Troy with Memphis tour. Gamal Mohamed was my agent that arranged the tour and was also very helpful. The tour was really great and overcame my expectations. We had visited many cities like Istanbul, Ankara and Capadoccia including some inner cities, like Pamukkale, which was one of the reason I had chosen this package. The tour guide (Musa) was very helpful and pointed out many details which were not told in my history classes 😉. The hotel in Istanbul was very well located near to restaurants, many stores and public transportation. I strongly recommend this tour for the ones interested to visit other cities and touristics places in Turkey besides Istanbul, like Ephesus, Capadoccia, Pamukkale, Troy. Turkey has surprised me positively and now I think there is much more to see there. One point for improvement is the payment link, that was occuring an error to process payment with debit card: PPVE

Awsome Dubai
I inquired about the Dubai package tour on Facebook. Ms Basma Elmahdhy contacted me on whataspp and through email. She walked me through the process from the beginning until the end. Ms ELmahdhy made it comfortable and reassured me when i expressed fear because i was travelling solo. The tour guides were informative and knowledgeable about the culture and the histoy of Dubai. The itinernary of the trip was fantastic. The selection of the hotel was incredible as well as the breakfast that was provided daily. The customer service at the hotel Al Khoory Atrium was very good. My experience in Dubai was awesome, where i visited all the places mentioned in the itinenary. Im very happy and grateful to Ms Elmahdhy for making my trip a success. She is a truly a gem

Where Is Memphis and How to Get There
Memphis is located approximately 20 kilometers south of Cairo. It will take you about 45 minutes to reach Memphis traveling by car from Cairo.
Honestly, there is no better way of getting to Memphis than to get a taxi. Your hotel should be able to help you with getting a taxi. Another option is to hire a driver and a guide for a day or two and check off all the attractions in and around Cairo.
There are many organized tours that will take you all around Cairo and stop at all the major attractions. Again, your hotel should be able to make recommendations and get you on an organized tour of the main attractions in Cairo.
A trip to Memphis can easily be combined with a visit to Saqqara, a vast necropolis site and a place where the building of pyramids first began in Egypt. Check out How to Visit and What to See in Saqqara, Egypt (Guide to Visiting Saqqara).

Interesting Facts About Memphis
- It is believed that the city of Memphis was founded at the time of the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt around 3100 BC by the Pharaoh Narmer, who was the first pharaoh of the first dynasty.
- The location of Memphis was very strategic. It sat at the entrance to the Nile River Valley near the Giza plateau.
- It is believed that it was Egypt’s nucleus of commerce and trade distributing food and merchandise throughout the kingdom.
- In addition, Memphis served as an important religious center and a worship place of the god Ptah .
- The original name of the city was Hiku-Ptah . Later on, it was known as Inbu-Hedj , which means white walls. By the time of the Old Kingdom (c. 2613-2181 BCE), it was known as Men-Nefer , which means beautiful harbor. Finally, it was renamed Memphis by the Greeks.
What to See in Memphis
Today, what is left of Memphis is collected in the Open Air Museum.
First of all, what you will see is the result of organized excavations in 1850′ by Auguste-Edouard Mariette . Mariette was the first one to reveal the evidence of the great temple of Ptah.
Second, it is a result of a major excavation conducted by Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie from 1907 to 1912. His discoveries included the pillared hall of the temple of Ptah, the pylon of Ramses II, the great alabaster sphinx, and many others.

Furthermore, do not miss the giant alabaster sphinx dating back to the New Kingdom and still standing at the original spot guarding the entrance to the temple of god Ptah.
It is estimated that it weighs more than 80 tons.

In addition, there is an indoor museum housing the magnificent fallen colossal limestone statue of Ramses II . I think for me, that was the highlight of the tour of Memphis.
The statue is absolutely amazing and you need to see it to appreciate the sublime details!
As my guide told me, the statue is 10 m (33 ft) tall. It was discovered by Giovanni Caviglia in 1820 near the entrance to the great temple of god Ptah.
I think one person that I would like to mention again is Auguste-Edouard Mariette , not only for his discoveries of the great temple of god Ptah but also for establishing the Egyptian Antiquities Organization (EAO) in 1859, which became responsible for the exploration as well as conservation of Egypt’s archaeological treasures and prevention of massive exportation of Egyptian artifacts abroad.

- The Memphis Open Air Museum is open daily from 8 am till 4 pm .

- As you start traveling through Egypt, you will realize that there are so many different rules pertaining to visiting the sites. Some places do not allow guides inside their structures, some do. So, just stay flexible and adjust as you tour Egypt.
By the way, you do not need a guide to visit the Open Air Museum in Memphis. And, I think you will do very well on your own. I found the entire place rather well marked and signed. However, it is always a good idea to have a knowledgeable guide by your side. You will learn so much more! My guide was awesome and I found out so many details about this ancient capital city.
- There are many places that you will visit in Egypt that have restrictions on taking pictures. Some places do not allow cameras, however, cell phones are allowed. Needless to say, no matter what, always be ready and have your camera in your backpack and a cell phone as well.

Intrepid Scout's Tips for How to Visit and What to See in Memphis
Is Memphis worth visiting? If you are wondering if it is worth going to Memphis? The answer is: yes. However, it is not as spectacular as some other places in Egypt!
Here are a few pointers:
- Get there early , if you are visiting during the summer months. It is an open-air museum and the majority of the time you will be spending outdoors.
- Make sure to have water, wear a hat, and layer on some sunscreen!
- If you only have time to see one thing, then head directly to the indoor museum to examine all the details of the colossal statue of Ramses II. In my opinion, it is simply spectacular!

Has anyone used Memphis tours in Egypt? If so, what are your thoughts about their service and price?

Hello nchagwa,
My wife and I cruised on Crown princess, leaving Port Everglades on 04/12/09.
I used memphis tours service April 5-6. I
we were to meet at 730am in front of the ship. A private limo was
to pick us up so that if my parents got tired we could come home; but instead we waited
outside for one hour for other people to convoy with
One couple was to come at 830 and the other group of 3 came early and was to be there at
Talking to others who had private tours they all had lunch included as well as drinks and
water along the way, for the same price we paid and they had a private car.
Summary of my complain:
1-Not private tour as they promised me
2-The cairo city tour was brief and rushed
3-Memphis tours hotels are not anywhere close to 5 or 4 stars, as advertised.
4-Dinner selections were extremely limited
5-Not allowing enough time for unhurried photographs.
My advice: Avoid Memphis tours.
Thanks for an honest review. So many people just rave about their tours you would think every company and guide is wonderful. I too would be very unhappy waiting around for several other groups to arrive. I assume this is why your tour was rushed. Did they provide any security, or was traveling in a group their idea of security?
When I was looking for a overnight Cairo trip I searched CC for reviews. If you search for "Memphis Tours" (with the quotes around) you will find lots of positive reviews and that is why I booked with Memphis Tours, also because they were the best communicators in quickly answering my emails and many questions. I was quite concerned when I read Paul's review about his trip. I sent an email to Memphis Tours this morning and have already received a response. He indicated that your tour was booked by a travel agent that didn't let them know that it was supposed to be a private tour. He also told me the 2 hotels they use (Le Merieidn Pyramids Hotel or Moevenpick Phramids Hotel) so I could go to tripadvisor.com to read about them, which I'll do. I'll keep my eyes open, cause I have plenty of time to cancel and book with another if I get uncomfortable with my choice. Right now, I won't let one bad review change my plans.
We were very pleased with our MemphisTours excursion from Alexandria to Cairo for the one day tour. Everything as promised and price as indicated. Would use them again.
- 3 weeks later...
We are on the Crystal Symphony completing the cruise to give you gray hairs because of all the shifting of the ports and times. We had booked with Memphis in Jordan and for Luxor and Cairo. They were wonderful in responding to all the changes in locations and dates that occurred on this cruise and responded promptly to our emails. We had the tours as promised, were met promptly at the ship and when the Crystal was planning on docking in Suez at 3am, they were ready to come and meet us for the drive to Cairo. You can't go wrong with them. Judy

Hi have you checked out Memphis Tours. We are going on the Equinox in October and wondering if they check out. Also, we were going with DeCastro and now it has been changed to Moustafa Tours. I did like what I read on Memphis.
Please email me at [email protected]

Yes, I checked out Memphis Tours and am staying with my choice. Email on the way!
Don't know anything about Memphis Tours. We used DeCastro Tours in March for our overnight in Cairo and could not have been more pleased. DeCastro "spun" off their cruise tours and their new website at: http://www.moustafaegypttours.com/ gives all the info you need to book. We were part of a large roll call group for this cruise. Some members used ship's tours, others used Nile Blue and some like us used DeCastro. Nile Blue used vans for their transport while DeCastro used a bus with a restroom. Nile Blue stopped at a "convenience store/gas station" on the way to Cairo and left one couple there. Apparently, no head count was done but others noticed they were gone. The van had to drive for a ways before it could turn around so it was a scary 40 minutes for our roll call friends. We heard the story from them personally. Also Nile Blue did not put them up in the hotel they were promised. Used a "less expensive"(for them) one. DeCastro delivered everything they promised. We HIGHLY recommend them. We are not a "plant" just real people who had a great experience with them.

I checked out their website and immediately saw a red flag!
They want a 50% CASH deposit and the remainder in cash upon arrival. There is no protection using a credit card if they don't deliver.
onlyparrotlets
We have reserved our tour with memphis. The deposit is only 25% .
Plus, Memphis tours has live chat. you can chat online with them with any questions.
Wow, didn't know about the live chat. Thanks. I'll use that to make some changes to our tour since RCCL decided to stay 2 days in Alexandria instead of meeting the ship in Port Said.
I'm not a bit concerned about putting a deposit down on our tour. If a tour does not require a deposit, there will be some that just won't show up for their tour and cause needless waiting for no shows.
Yeh, the live chat is an added bonus, I thought, because I got immediate answers instead of waiting on a reply.
I feel the same about the deposit. Altho, I have booked tours before with no deposit and it has always worked out, but none that were overnights requiring a hotel and such.
Roadtripster
I am really intereste in Memphis Tours. I like the itinerary for the Giza trip.
I couldn't find anything for a day trip to Alexandria. Does anyone know if they offer a day trip of Alexandria or if not, do you know if they would let you set one up?
I don't want to spend the night off the ship. We just want to return to the ship late at night the first night and then get up the next morning and tour Alexandria.
If I can't find anything about it through Memphis Tours, I guess I can always choose another company for that day.
Roadtripster,
Just send the message you posted here to them via their website and they will answer with a itinerary and price. Then if you want to make changes or add ons, they are more than willing to work with you. That's what we did for our overnight we booked with them for December.

We've been asked to pay the balance (already paid 50%) for a tour with Memphis at the beginning of a two day tour. I would have expected to pay at the end of the tour but I'd like to know other people's views

I know this post if about Memphis, but since the topic of 'upfront' deposit was raised, I wanted to share some information about another company that I've booked with: Ramses Tours.
In doing my research, I contacted De Castro, Memphis, Blue Nile and Ramses. In addition to NOT requesting deposit, Ramses tailored the itinerary to our needs (French guide) and also a different tour since we've been to the area before. George, their manager, have been in contact with me within a few hours everytime I needed information. So far, I'm really impressed...
Furthermore, he wrote: You pay at the end of the tour when you know you are happy with the tour... So that sounds really good to me!
Prices was also very competitive with other quotes.
have you considered ramses tours, i have heard good reviews about them and the clincher for me was that not only they dont ask for 50% deposit, you pay your tour at the end of the tour, now that is a guarantee i like. we are taking a tour with them in decembre 2010, i wasnt happy paying 50% upfront 16 months in advance with other companies and then i found ramses.
- 2 weeks later...
Call me suspicious but "moretti123" you have 21 posts and every single post is strongly in favour of a company called "egypt4utours". Hmmmmm....

We used Memphis tours twice in 2008: overnights in Luxor in April and in Cairo in November. We were very happy both times with our guides, drivers and their ability to meet our needs. The hotels used in both places were very nice, and we will always remember having breakfast overlooking the river in Luxor! I communicated with them directly, and they worked hard to make changes at the last minute for us, as well. We had a car, a guide and a driver all to ourselves and they were able to accommodate every strange request, including buying "real" (not touristy) musical instruments. Yes, we did cart home a very large Egyptian drum.

My family of 9 used Memphis Tours for an overnight excursion while on the Brilliance of the Seas this past November.
I was a great experience from pick-up to drop-off.
We were met at the pier by Hassan, who was very personable & charming.
Our guide, Emmy, was FANTASTIC!!!! We could ask her anything ...she knew the answer.
Memphis Tours gave a a very experienced driver. He was able to navigate the congested streets of Cairo with ease. (which is a feat within itself)
Memphis Tours also allowed me to tweak the itinerary to fit our needs & interests.
As for the deposit, I did give 25% prior to the cruise. The contract stated that it would be fully refundable if I needed to cancel prior to the start of the cruise. I had no problem with this as it made me feel secure that I had indeed purchased an excursion!
We did pay the balance at the END of the tour as we were pulling up in front of the beautiful Brilliance of the Seas.:D

OUR REVIEWS
As a photographer, I recently visited Memphis and was honored to be on the Heritage Tour. The tour guide brilliantly depicted the knowledge and strength of rich history and the led us down a journey into our ancestors past. We were teary eyed and moved with deep emotion, learning what many in the South went through so that we could have the privileges we benefit from today. This tour is a must for all those who visit Memphis.
I absolutely loved it. -Master Focus Media

I can’t believe how interesting he was the entire time! He answered questions and took the time to explain everything in such an interesting way! If you are going to Memphis, take this tour! It was truly awesome!
