Thailand Tourist Visa

What our customers have to say on malaysia visa.

thailand tourist visa price in india

This is the most popularly availed type of visa. It is issued to foreigners entering Thailand for the purpose of tourism. This kind of visa can be acquired in India ahead of travelling to Thailand. Typically, a tourist visa entails a stay of 60 days, with the option available to extend it for another 7 days. A holder of a thailand tourist visa cannot apply for a work permit, though holders of tourist visa can apply to change the visa altogether from tourist to non-immigrant visa in case they wish to work in Thailand, or feel that they won’t be allowed a longer duration stay without the non-immigrant visa.

Thailand Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV)

The single entry tourist visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 60 days from the date of arrival. For Indian citizens it can further be extended for a period of 7 days for an additional cost. But this needs to be done before your 60 days have expired, and need the date stamped in your passport. A single entry tourist visa has a total validity of 3 months, while this hasn’t got anything to do with the length of your stay. It simple means that you must enter Thailand before the expiry date mentioned. Once 60 days have lapsed you can re-enter Thailand with a fresh single entry tourist visa which too would be issued by the Thai embassy and can be bought from an OTA. The most misunderstood aspect about the single entry tourist visa is that it is after all a thailand single entry visa . While it has a validity of 60 days with an extension of 7 days, you need to use it up when you first enter the country, and the moment you step outside the Thai border before completing your 60 day tenure it is immediately cancelled. And to re-enter, you need to once more apply for a brand new visa whether single or multiple entry. After a 20-day stay in Thailand in case you visit Cambodia and travel around to Angkor Wat and then wish to return to Thailand by air, you are given a 30 days (airport) visa extension stamp. In such a case you do not have to buy the 60-day single entry tourist visa, and lose your stay for the remaining 40 days. But in case you have bought a single entry tourist visa and also wish to see some of the neighbouring countries, then you must first consume your 60-day stay in Thailand and only then leave.

Documents Required to Get a Single Entry Tourist Visa to Thailand

  • - Passport with at least six month validity
  • - Visa application form completely and accurately filled
  • - Confirmed return air tickets
  • - A photograph of 4*6 cm dimensions
  • - Bank statement to show that you have sufficient amount to support your stay in Thailand
  • - A cover letter that states the purpose of your visit, any local who would be hosting you, and other interests you may have during your travels to Thailand.

How to Get a Single Entry Tourist Visa to Thailand

You need to ready all your documents and application form and visit the OTA and they will send your documents for processing to the high commission of Thailand. Once your document is ready you will be asked to visit your OTA to collect the visa approval papers.

Thailand Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV)

A multiple entry tourist visa is issued only at the country of origin. In order for this visa to be granted, there is a strict criteria that needs to be met. In a multiple entry tourist visa each stay must not exceed more than 60 days. You need to show your bank statements which should have at least $6000 for 3 months, letters of employment mentioning where you presently work, or in case you are self-employed. Registration documents, return air tickets and hotel reservation vouchers for all days of stay in Thailand. The multiple entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months from the date of issue, where you are granted 60 days per trip. You can re-enter the country only on completion of a 60-day period. Such a visa itself has a validity of 6 months, and hasn’t got anything to do with the length of your stay. It simply means that you need to enter the country before the expiry date mentioned in the document.

Documents Required to Get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa to Thailand

  • - Passport with a minimum of six month validity
  • - Visa application form duly filled
  • - Proof of return air travel paid in full
  • - Bank statement to show that you have enough funds to support your stay in Thailand. The requirement here is higher than in a single entry tourist visa.
  • - A cover letter that mentions the reasons for your travel, it could even be from a friend who is a local and is ready to host you, and any other interests you may have like doing a short term course in art, cookery among others.

How to Get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa to Thailand

You first have to ready all your documents and fill up the application form accurately, and then visit your agent on the decided date and hand him over your documents which he will send for processing to the consulate. Once your approval has arrived, you can visit them again and take back your passport and documents.

Thailand Tourist eVisa on Arrival

The most preferable way of getting a quick visa approval is by opting for a Thailand eVisa on arrival. This process was first introduced in 2018, and is a provision through which Indian citizens can pre-register for a short stay of no more than 15 days to Thailand, in any part of the country, only for the purposes of tourism. It is a procedure put in place by the Kingdom of Thailand to fasten border control operations for travellers. A simple online method of attaining visa approval, here travellers can fill up the application online, file their documents online, pay the visa fee and agent commission online and await their visa approval document too online. This E-VOA saves you the stress of waiting in long queues at the immigration desk at the airport and filling up your form and then getting your documents verified one by one. By opting for the Thailand eVisa on arrival, a traveller can straightaway head to the designated fast track desk for eVisa on arrival, show his documents and get a prompt stamp on the passport. No more paying visa fee at the airport and struggling to find sufficient local currency to make the payment. This facility can only be availed by those arriving by air, and that too at select international airports of the country including its hub the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Such a visa is valid for 30 days from the date of approval, letting you stay in Thailand for no more than 15 days. And most importantly, this is a single entry visa.

Documents required to get a Thailand eVisa on arrival

  • - Your application form accurately filled.
  • - The front and back cover of your passport which has a minimum validity of 30 days. Your passport should have a complete blank page for the visa stamp.
  • - Proof of accommodation for all the days of your stay whether someone’s house, home stay, hotel, resort or serviced apartment.
  • - Confirmed return air tickets paid in full.
  • - Proof of funds; as an individual you need to be carrying 10,000 Thai Baht to support your stay in the country, and per family the rate is 20,000 Thai Baht.
  • - A recent coloured photograph of 4*6 cm dimensions.

Thailand eVisa on Arrival Regular

When you approach your OTA to get this sort of eVisa, he would want to know what kind of service would you opt for whether regular or express. A regular Thailand eVisa on arrival is principally the same as an express Thailand eVisa on arrival only the time taken to process the documents is different, and as a result the costs of both the procedures are different too. A regular Thailand eVisa on arrival demands the same set of documents and the form to be filled is also the same, but the visa takes 48 to 72 hours to get processed, and land in your inbox. The cost of getting a Thailand eVisa on arrival regular with Yatra is INR 1950. Both the visas are single entry visas, letting you stay in the country for only 15 days and is valid for a total of 30 days from the date of approval.

Thailand eVisa on Arrival Express

Those who opt for the eVisa on arrival express category are usually travelling to Thailand at a very short notice and need their approvals to come through in record time. To facilitate this the Royal Thai Embassy has worked out the system of getting a Thailand E-VOA within 24 hours. All other terms and conditions of the eVisa on arrival remain the same. The form is the same, the documents you need to produce too are the same, and both are single entry visa, allowing you a brief stay of no longer than a fortnight in Thailand. Just that your visa documents get processed in the quickest possible time and you receive your visa approval within 24 hours. The fee to get such a visa too is substantially higher. If you get this done by Yatra, trusting Yatra to go through all your papers before processing them, so that an approval is guaranteed, you need to pay a fee of INR 7150 which is inclusive of the agent commission and the visa fee charged by the Thai high commission.

How to Get a Thailand eVisa on Arrival

You can get this pre-approved visa document through Yatra. Simply fill up a basic form from the comfort of your home or office, upload a scanned copy of the aforesaid documents and make the payment of the visa fee online. The Yatra team will then scan your documents for accuracy and let you know if your papers are ready to be sent for approval. Once they forward the documents to the consulate, you need to wait for 2 to 3 day, or 24 hours, depending on which service you have opted for for your approvals to come through in your mailbox. The approved eVisa on arrival is then sent by Yatra to your registered email id. And it is almost as simple as that.

How Thailand Hopes to Meet Its Goal For 1.7 Million Indian Tourists

Bulbul Dhawan , Skift

April 19th, 2024 at 8:52 AM EDT

India is one of the most important source markets for Thailand. Pre-Covid, nearly 2 million Indian tourists flocked to Thailand, making India the third-largest source market in 2019. Now, Thailand is looking to bring India back to pre-Covid levels.

Bulbul Dhawan

The Tourism Authority of Thailand on Thursday hosted a group of more than 8,000 incentive visitors from India. The delegation is part of the authority’s goal of receiving at least 1.7 million Indian visitors this year, it said in a statement.

India is one of the most important source markets for Thailand and is also the fastest-growing. In 2023, over 1.6 million Indian travelers visited Thailand , making the country the fourth-largest source market for Thailand. These tourists spent more than THB 63 billion ($1.7 billion).

In 2024, through February , India ranked fifth among source markets with more than 300,000 tourists traveling to Thailand. In 2023, Thailand was one of the top international destinations for Indians, with Bangkok being the second most popular foreign destination after Dubai, according to travel agency Skyscanner .

Schemes to Attract Indian Travelers

Thailand also introduced a visa waiver for Indian tourists from November 10 last year till May 10, 2024, a scheme that had been put on hold post Covid.

Thailand tourism governor Thapanede Kiatphaibool called India a high quality and high spending market, while explaining the reason for resuming the visa exemption for Indian travelers. The governor had then said that the country was evaluating if a visa-free facility could permanently be extended to Indian travelers.

Apart from this, Thailand’s key strategies to attract Indian tourists include subsidy schemes for incentive, wedding, and celebration groups, the governor said earlier this year at a travel exchange . “Joint promotions with airlines and travel agents will be offered for repeat visitors and golfers,” Kiatphaibool added.

All-Year-Round Destination

Thailand minister of tourism Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol said, “I am determined to elevate Thailand to be a quality and safe destination that delivers a valuable experience to our visitors from India through Thailand’s soft powers and promotes Thailand to be an all-year-round destination.”

Expecting INR 185 billion ($2.2 billion) in tourism receipts from India, Thailand looks to attract over 1.7 million Indian travelers to the country in 2024, as it aims to attract 35 million tourists this year.

In India, Thailand is marketing itself to various segments, including families, millennials, golfers, luxury travelers, incentive groups, as well as wedding and celebrations groups.

Beyond popular destinations like Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is also promoting destinations like Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi and Khao Yai.

Thailand also plans to launch special initiatives for senior citizens, women travelers, Gen Z, and LGBTQIA+ travelers. Wellness tours and adventure sports are also segments where the destination is planning to focus.

Thailand Visa on Arrival

Securing a Visa on Arrival upon entering Thailand

The Visa On Arrival scheme allows passport holders of 19* listed countries and territories to enter Thailand without needing to apply for a Tourist Visa from a Thai Embassy in their own country.

To receive a Visa on Arrival, a traveler must meet the following requirements:

  • Be from an approved country.
  • Be visiting Thailand strictly for tourism purposes.
  • Hold a genuine passport with a valid expiry of more than 30 days.
  • Be able to list a valid accommodation address in Thailand that can be verified. This address can be a hotel or an apartment.
  • Must have a confirmed return ticket exiting Thailand within 15 days. Open tickets do not qualify. Traveling overland by train, bus, etc to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia (including en route to Singapore), Myanmar, etc is not accepted as proof of exiting Thailand.**
  • Provide proof of funds of at least 10,000 THB for single travelers, or 20,000 THB per family during your stay in Thailand.
  • Pay a fee of 2,000 THB upon entry. This fee is subject to change without notice. It must be paid in cash and only Thai currency is accepted.

** You may be asked to show your flight ticket to Thai immigration officials on entering Thailand. If you do not possess a flight ticket to show that you will exit Thailand within 15 days (or 30 days) of entry, you will most likely be refused entry.
