It was the phone call I got from Paul in the sales team. He called me when I was just about to pay for my holiday but I held on because I had to check some details at work before I pressed the payment. It would have been terrible, but ...

It would have been terrible, as was booking online and then when I entered payment details it all crashed, I then went back and the same holiday was over £120 more. I phoned Travel Republic, and the consultant Peter was extremely helpful, and got my holiday booked.

TR comes through for us!

Our original flight was cancelled ..... &, then, so was our hotel. What are the chances!!? :) Not to worry, we were delighted with the replacements & TR kept us in the loop at all times. Would politely suggest that you reduce your transfer fees, as we ended up going with another company for much less. Apart from that, we were very happy with yourselves - it's the umpteenth time we've used you over the years ....... so you must be doing something right - thanks a million!

I will definitely book with Travel…

I will definitely book with Travel Republic again, booking was so easy, and everything run smoothly, when you ring , the staff are polite and helpful.

Had to tell Travel Republic our flight…

Had to tell Travel Republic our flight times had changed instead of the other way around. Couldt check in for flight as they had failed to remove one of our group who had an injury and was unable to travel. We had to pay tourist tax for the missing group member, despite the fact that our family room was changed to a double room when she was unable to attend. Spent a total of 50 minutes on the phone to Travel republic on three occassions trying to sort issues out. Hotel was lovely and Easyjet flights, as usual late but a lovely holiday. Travel republic need to sort out their customer service

Easy company to deal with

Found this company very easy to deal with. We booked online and reasonable price. Didnt expect to have a rep contact us at hotel. Whom checked we were ok and helped us arrange trips. I found Travel Republic had a choice of…

I found Travel Republic had a choice of hotels for budget accomodation ,up to the more expensive type.i went for a mid price hotel near to the beach.it is All inclusive.

I didn't arrived to place where I expected…

I arrived to place where I expected spend a nice time. Had transfer, but in airport no body met me. When I came to hotel got info like "no booking information on your name". Spend extra money for roaming and by call got answer "our subcontractor forgot make reservation, and we now booked another one, and will call you tomorrow also to discuss and try to find something better" But no body call me... At the end of my holidays I didn't get transfer again where should get a taxi and spend to much money. No response, no excuse and compensation... :(

Excellent service both online and by phone

We booked a short holiday on line to Mauritius and had a few subsequent questions fully answered on the phone at their call centre. The travel arrangements were very clear and the hotel transfers through their local agents (Coquille Bonheur) were outstanding. Overall we were very impressed.

After an internet search I found Travel Republic offered the best price, the site was informative and easy to navigate. Excellent Travel company. I have been using travel republic for years and always fine they have competitive prices. I have just booked a hotel for part of our family’s 2025 trip to Orlando. They had lots of hotel options and the some really good deals. The website is easy to use and the booking process was really smooth. They also offer a low deposit of £20 which is great.

Judging by the complaints about them, thats not saying much :-)

I've used travelrepublic about half a dozen times in the last 4 years and found them excellent. As you would expect of one of the biggest bedbanks going.

I suspect a lot of complaints are from the numpties who a) don't check out the hotel they're booking beforehand and b) are the sort who think terms and conditions don't apply to them.

Wrong forum.

On the Beach not only operate in exactly the same way as TR but charge exorbitant admin fees for amendments etc. They are one company that should be avoided at all costs!

Ringing TR and wanting them to confirm whilst you're on the phone can take ages. They still have to make the bookings with their suppliers.

W thought we were all booked and everything sorted Then four days before travel we get an e-mail to advise us that the hotel was now "fully/over booked" and we had to move hotels. This was despite the same hotel offering rooms just a week or so before. The new hotel was just as nice and couldn't be faulted, but isolated and we had to get a cab every time we went out. We called and told them we needed to be near the original hotel/friends/area and even though they were still advertising simular quality hotels on their own website in the area we wanted to be, for the same price as the new one offered, they said they could do nothing to help. I know people say this is rare, but I find this hard to believe as they actually have a 'large department to help with these thing'. Also met another two couples who suffered simular things while we we're there. Cheap travel? yes, but be prepared for your plans and booking to be altered. We won't use them agian. Apparently MANY others - if you had done some simple research before booking, you would have stumbled onto this thread - which was recently updated (it was on page 3 of this forum).

The key here is that many OTA's do not rely on "live" availability - but rather they advertise prices or deals which might have been available in the past. But, once they have your information and payment - oops. Sorry for your troubles.

It is not the fault of Travel Republic if you get bumped. They don't have a contract with hotels. They book with a supplier who has rooms on allocation. If the hotel decide to sell one of those rooms to a direct booker themselves, (as is often the case because they pay far more realistic rates), and they don't get any cancellations, then someone gets bumped. Unfortunately it's someone that has booked via a bedbank because they pay very cheap rates. It happens to high street agents as well sometimes, but it isn't fair to blame the agent. They have no control over who gets bumped.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing can happen if you book with a company that doesn't have a contract with the hotel. As has been explained, it's the hotel that has decide to cancel your booking as, in essence, they've had a better offer from elsewhere.

This is why I won't use TR or similar fourth parties myself. I prefer to book direct where possible, or use Booking,com, who do work directly with accommodation providers.

All hotels overbook and unfortunately it is those you haven't booked direct with the hotel that get moved first. I always book my accommodation directly with the hotel to avoid problems. I have never had any problem with any hotel we have gone to.

Can this happen with easyjet holidays too? I am trying to steer clear of travel republic and looking into other options. Thomas Cook and Thomson are usually who I book with but only going away for four days so thought I'd use someone cheaper

You can get overbooked by any hotel. What the point was, is that you are less likely to be overbooked if you book direct with the hotel. It also depends on popularity of hotel, where it is and the time of year.

Absolutely solid advice and explanation by everyone above.

For those interested, a typical 'pecking order' in sequence of most likely to get bumped/walked, in the event of an overbooking;

1. Inbound Leisure Wholesale/Third Party Non Repeat

2. Inbound Leisure Wholesale/Third Party

3. Inbound Leisure Direct Non Repeat

4. Inbound Leisure Direct Repeat

5. Corporate Non Contract

6. Corporate Contracted Non Repeat

7. Corporate Contracted Repeat

8. Corporate Contracted High Rate/High Status

9. Loyalty Program High Status VIP's

10. Management Nominated VIP's

The above sequence can have a dozen more rate and status breakdowns depending on the hotel, but it's a general sequence. If handled well, it should never ever get to 7, 8, 9, 10, but ultimately it's the discretion of the hotel. *** Footnote - there is a difference between wholesale, and third party. If push came to shove, packaged wholesale will always go first.

The point of this, is simply to emphasise the likelihood of a particular reservation being bumped in an overbooking scenario.

Also asked for change of room booking (extra night) and told not available as booked but offered a alternative at a very high price, when checking direct with hotel found it was available at minor cost. Don't try to rip off customers.

TR comes through for us!

Our original flight was cancelled ..... &, then, so was our hotel. What are the chances!!? :) Not to worry, we were delighted with the replacements & TR kept us in the loop at all times. Would politely suggest that you reduce your transfer fees, as we ended up going with another company for much less. Apart from that, we were very happy with yourselves - it's the umpteenth time we've used you over the years ....... so you must be doing something right - thanks a million!

Had to tell Travel Republic our flight…

Had to tell Travel Republic our flight times had changed instead of the other way around. Couldt check in for flight as they had failed to remove one of our group who had an injury and was unable to travel. We had to pay tourist tax for the missing group member, despite the fact that our family room was changed to a double room when she was unable to attend. Spent a total of 50 minutes on the phone to Travel republic on three occassions trying to sort issues out. Hotel was lovely and Easyjet flights, as usual late but a lovely holiday. Travel republic need to sort out their customer service

I found Travel Republic had a choice of hotels for budget accomodation ,up to the more expensive type.i went for a mid price hotel near to the beach.it is All inclusive.

I arrived to place where I expected spend a nice time. Had transfer, but in airport no body met me. When I came to hotel got info like "no booking information on your name". Spend extra money for roaming and by call got answer "our subcontractor forgot make reservation, and we now booked another one, and will call you tomorrow also to discuss and try to find something better" But no body call me... At the end of my holidays I didn't get transfer again where should get a taxi and spend to much money. No response, no excuse and compensation... :(

Excellent Travel company. I have been using travel republic for years and always fine they have competitive prices. I have just booked a hotel for part of our family’s 2025 trip to Orlando. “Value for money holiday”

I have been using Travel Republic since 2011 1-3 times a year and have never had a problem with them and so easy to book and pay for. 2016 they emailed me to say they couldn't let us stay at the sol pelicanos as they were filming Benidorm and they made a mistake booking us in. They put us in the Melia which turned out to be 5 star luxury. They went over and above. Got refunded in full for our cancelled June holiday this year 2020 with no problem. Have booked up for 26 February 2021. Fingers crossed. Marcus.

“Arrived to find Hotel Booking Unpaid”

Absolutely diabolical service - I arrived at the hotel to find the accommodation was not paid for and the hotel chain has had such a bad experience with the accommodation supplier (who I believe is owned by the same group as TR) that they asked me to pay for the accommodation again. This is despite yourselves having taken the money from myself 1 month earlier. Fortunately i was able to cover the hotel bill with my credit card but not everybody may be able to do that. It was a 4 day stay and Travel Republic finally paid on the 4th day

Ireland and Britain are on a collision course over asylum seekers, with Dublin vowing to send arrivals to Ireland back to the UK and London insisting it will not accept any.

A diplomatic row erupted on Sunday after the taoiseach, Simon Harris, asked the justice minister, Helen McEntee, to bring proposals to cabinet next week to allow the return of inadmissible international protection applicants to the UK, amid concern that Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda plan was rerouting asylum seekers from Britain.

“This country will not in any way, shape or form provide a loophole for anybody else’s migration challenges,” Harris said on Sunday. “Other countries can decide how they wish to advance migration. From an Irish perspective, we intend to have a firm rules-based system where rules are in place, where rules are in force, where rules are seen to be enforced.”

The planned legislation follows a claim by Sunak that the Conservative party’s deterrence was working, and after it emerged that 80% of recent asylum seekers to Ireland came via the land border with Northern Ireland.

A UK government source said it would not accept any asylum seekers from Ireland without a wider deal with Brussels. “We won’t accept any asylum returns from the EU via Ireland until the EU accepts that we can send them back to France. We are fully focused on operationalising our Rwanda scheme and will continue working with the French to stop the boats from crossing the channel.”

Ireland had previously designated the UK a “safe third country” to which asylum seekers could be returned but last month the Irish high court ruled that this breached EU law, impeding further returns.

McEntee said she would shore up Ireland’s controls and discuss the return of refugees with James Cleverly and other British officials during a visit to London on Monday.

“That’s why I’m introducing fast processing, that’s why I’ll have emergency legislation at cabinet this week to make sure that we can effectively return people to the UK and that’s why I’ll be meeting with the home secretary to raise these issues on Monday,” she told RTÉ.

In an interview with Sky News on Sunday, Sunak said the Rwanda legislation signed into law last week was already having an impact because people were worried about coming to the UK.

“Illegal migration is a global challenge, which is why you’re seeing multiple countries talk about doing third-country partnerships, looking at novel ways to solve this problem, and I believe will follow where the UK has led.”

Last week, a protest in County Wicklow over proposed refugee accommodation led to violent clashes with police who used shields and sprays and arrested six people. Police said rocks and other missiles were thrown and they recovered an axe.

Judging by the complaints about them, thats not saying much :-)

I've used travelrepublic about half a dozen times in the last 4 years and found them excellent. As you would expect of one of the biggest bedbanks going.

I suspect a lot of complaints are from the numpties who a) don't check out the hotel they're booking beforehand and b) are the sort who think terms and conditions don't apply to them.

On the Beach not only operate in exactly the same way as TR but charge exorbitant admin fees for amendments etc. They are one company that should be avoided at all costs!

Ringing TR and wanting them to confirm whilst you're on the phone can take ages. They still have to make the bookings with their suppliers.
