Conventions FAQ

What's a tv show / movie convention .

A convention is an event that usually takes place during two or three days and is dedicated to one or more anime, TV show(s), comics or movie(s).

Organized mainly by fans associations, conventions give fans the opportunity to participate in Q&A with the actors, take pictures with them, get autographs or spend a moment with them during a Meet & Greet.

A TV show, anime, comics or movie convention, is also the opportunity to participate to many activities during the event : quizz, lottery, karaoke... while meeting new people.

They also allow fans to chat with one another about a same center of interest and to return home with a lot of unforgettable memories.

How to participate in a convention ?

To attend a convention, you must purchase a pass from the convention organizer's ticketing website. Passes can give you access to one or more days, depending on which one you choose.

It's important to remember that you can't enter the convention without a pass.

In addition to passes, organizers sell extras for activities with guests. These may include photo ops, autograph sessions, meet and greets, and so on. These must be purchased in addition to the pass. If you bought extras without a pass, you won't be able to do them, and you've wasted money.

10 Things We Want From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3

Walter koenig interview: star trek the original series & the 7th rule podcast, 8 star trek: discovery things to know before season 5.

  • Star Trek fans have a lot to look forward to in 2024, with virtual and in-person conventions, Star Trek Day, podcasts, and new series announcements.
  • Despite uncertainties, the production of Star Trek: Section 31 and Lower Decks Season 5 are progressing smoothly.
  • The final season of Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere in April 2024, marking the end of Captain Burnham's voyages.

Star Trek has a big 2024 on tap, and here are 8 things to look forward to from the final frontier this year. Although the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes halted Hollywood production and the ability of talent and creatives to promote their work for much of 2023, Star Trek had a phenomenal year. Star Trek: Picard season 3, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, and Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 released a cumulative 30 episodes, were highly acclaimed as some of the most innovative Star Trek in years, and many episodes charted in the Nielsen streaming Top 10. All in all, 2023 was a great year to be a Star Trek fan.

Significant questions loom over Star Trek in 2024, however. Paramount may be up for sale, which would certainly impact Star Trek on Paramount+'s various series and projects. There remains no new Star Trek theatrical movie in development, going on 8 years since Star Trek Beyond hit theaters in the summer of 2016. And there is no indication that Paramount+ will greenlight Star Trek: Picard 's proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy , in spite of the same type of dedicated fan campaign that helped Star Trek: Prodigy jump to Netflix after it was canceled by Paramount+. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes also delayed production of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, which likely won't premiere until 2025. Still, Star Trek has a massive 2024 planned , and here are 8 things for fans to be excited about.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is in production now, and hopefully the next 10 episodes will deliver on these storylines and plot threads.

8 Star Trek Has Amazing Podcasts

The 7th rule, the shuttlepod show, inglorious treksperts, the delta flyers, and more.

Star Trek has podcasts to satisfy every type of fan , and they're available to watch on YouTube or stream wherever you get your podcasts. Walter Koenig joins The 7th Rule with Cirroc Lofton and Ryan T. Husk to discuss his episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. The Delta Flyers: Through The Wormhole added Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman, who join Star Trek: Voyager 's Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill to review episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nin e. Inglorious Treksperts hosts Mark A. Altman and Daren Dochterman continue their unrivaled expertise of classic Star Trek with podcasts and live panel shows. Sadly, The Shuttlepod Show 's co-host Dominic Keating has left the podcast, but hosts and producers Connor Trinneer, Erica LaRose, and Mark J. Cartier will continue to dive deep into the lives and careers of their illustrious Star Trek guests. Star Trek fans have a wealth of podcasts to enjoy in 2024, with new episodes weekly.

Screen Rant interviews Walter Koenig about his joining The 7th Rule podcast to review Star Trek: The Original Series, his Trek memories, and more.

7 Star Trek Virtual & In-Person Conventions

Trektalks, virtual trek con 5, the llapy awards, stlv, and more.

Star Trek has a connection to its fans unlike any other in entertainment, and thanks to the various Star Trek conventions, both virtual and in-person, Star Trek fans have the privilege and ability to meet and hear from their favorite talent and creatives. Star Trek essentially pioneered the fan convention and 2024 kicks off with two huge virtual events: TrekTalks 3 , hosted by John Billingsley of Star Trek: Enterprise and Bonnie Gordon of Star Trek: Prodigy, streams live on YouTube on January 13th with a full day of panels featuring over 30 Star Trek guests, all to benefit the Hollywood Food Coalition. TrekTalks 3 will also feature a can't-miss Star Trek: Picard season 3 panel.

Virtual Trek Con 5 , from Cirroc Lofton of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Ryan T. Husk, and The 7th Rule podcast, streams on YouTube from February 15-19 with 4 days of Star Trek panels with numerous special guests. VTC5 is capped off by the 3rd annual LLAPy Awards , the only Star Trek awards show voted on by fans , which streams live on YouTube on Sunday, February 19. For in-person Star Trek cons, two of the biggest are Creation Entertainments ST:SF in San Francisco in March and STLV: Trek to Vegas in Las Vegas in August, both featuring dozens of Star Trek talent. And, with no strikes this year, Star Trek on Paramount+ will no doubt return once again with huge panels at San Diego Comic-Con in July and New York Comic-Con in October.

6 Star Trek Day 2024

Star trek celebrates the franchise in person again.

2023 sadly saw Paramount+'s annual in-person Star Trek Day event canceled because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Since 2021, Star Trek Day has been a celebration of the franchise bringing together talent and creatives from Star Trek on Paramount+'s series and Star Trek 's legacy shows and films. Held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles and streamed on Paramount+ and Star Trek 's social channels, Star Trek Day is expected to return in September 2024, with a likely agenda of honoring the departing Star Trek: Discovery and looking ahead to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 and more.

Screen Rant was on the red carpet for Star Trek Day 2022 .

5 Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Announcements

Expect information about the newest star trek series.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was announced by Paramount+ in April 2023, and nothing more is known about the newest upcoming Star Trek series besides the fact that Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau ( Nancy Drew ) are the showrunners, and the writers' room includes Tawny Newsome of Star Trek: Lower Decks . 2024 should finally see more information about Starfleet Academy, which will hopefully announce the actors/characters of the show, and perhaps even confirm that Starfleet Academy is set after Star Trek: Discovery season 5 , as expected.

4 Star Trek: Section 31

Star trek's first made-for-streaming movie..

Announced in April 2023, Star Trek: Section 31 finally begins production from January to March in Toronto for a possible release in late 2024. Section 31 stars Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh , who reprises her Star Trek: Discovery anti-hero, Emperor Michelle Georgiou, and Yeoh used her clout from her Best Actress Oscar to ensure Section 31 is made. Star Trek: Section 31 is directed by Olutande Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny, but nothing else is known about the first Star Trek movie made exclusively to stream on Paramount+ . Section 31 's potential success could lead to the plan for a new Star Trek streaming movie every 2 years to come to fruition. Even if Star Trek: Section 31 doesn't premiere in 2024, fans should at least finally learn what other characters are in the movie and what era of Star Trek Section 31 is set in.

3 Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5

Premieres in 2024 on paramount+..

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 may have been the animated comedy's best season yet, and hopes are high that Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 will top it. The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes didn't affect the production of the animated series, and Star Trek: Lower Decks was able to complete its scripts, with 10 new episodes in production for the show's traditional late summer/early fall release date on Paramount+. Little is known about the stories planned for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 and the newly-minuted junior Lieutenants of the USS Cerritos, except that there will be more exploration of the Orion culture through the eyes of former Lt. D'Vana Tendi (Noel Wells). And while there are fears that season 5 could be the last for Star Trek: Lower Decks, hopefully, the 2023 crossover with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds created more fans of Lower Decks, and creator Mike McMahan's hilarious animated show can continue for years to come.

2 Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 - The Final Season

Premieres april 2024 on paramount+..

The only live-action Star Trek series on Paramount+'s 2024 schedule, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is the final season marking the end of the voyages of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery. It was Star Trek: Discovery' s success on CBS All-Access, which became Paramount+, that led to Star Trek 's current TV renaissance. Although Discovery season 5 was not originally planned as the final season, following Paramount+ canceling the series in March 2023, reshoots were completed to turn Discovery 's season 5 finale into a proper ending for the entire series . Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is also a shift in tone to an Indiana Jones -like intergalactic treasure hunt adventure, according to Jonathan Frakes, who directs the penultimate episode of Discovery . Premiering in April 2024, Star Trek: Discovery will be the Star Trek event on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Discovery returns for season 5 in 2024 after a 2-year hiatus, and here's what you need to know about Captain Burnham's final adventures.

1 Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

Premieres in 2024 on netflix.

With a huge global audience discovering the all-ages animated series on Netflix, Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is possibly the most anticipated Star Trek event of 2024 . Netflix premiered Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 on Christmas Day, priming viewers new and old for 20 all-new Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 episodes from creators and showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman and their team. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 promises to go even bigger than season 1's high stakes, taking Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the young ragtag former crew of the USS Protostar into an alternate 25th-century future and beyond. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's massive scope will reportedly touch upon the entire Star Trek franchise, and the already-announced new castmember The Doctor (Robert Picardo) as well as the new USS Voyager-A are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the surprises, fun, and adventure Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 has in store.

Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks are streaming on Paramount+. Star Trek: Prodigy is streaming on Netflix.

Along with dozens of Star Trek guest actors, including Cheers and Frasier star Kelsey Grammer (who appeared in “Cause and Effect”), here are just some of the headlining series stars attending:

  • William Shatner , George Takei , Walter Koenig , and Nichelle Nichols from the classic Star Trek series
  • Brent Spiner , Gates McFadden , LeVar Burton , John de Lancie , and Denise Crosby from The Next Generation
  • Nana Visitor , Terry Farrell , Armin Shimerman , Cirroc Lofton , Nicole de Boer , Penny Johnson-Jerald , and many additional members of the extended  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine cast
  • Jeri Ryan , Robert Beltran , Roxann Dawson , Tim Russ , Garrett Wang from Star Trek: Voyager
  • Connor Trinneer , Dominic Keating , John Billingsley , Anthony Montgomery from  Star Trek: Enterprise
  • Anthony Rapp , Mary Wiseman , Blu del Barrio , David Ajala , Oded Fehr , and Patrick Kwok-Choon from Star Trek: Discovery
  • Evan Evagora , Isa Briones , Michelle Hurd and Jonathan del Arco from Star Trek: Picard

Also attending will be  Star Trek creatives Brannon Braga , Dan Curry , David Livingston , Mike and Denise Okuda, Dennis McCarthy , Jeff Russo , Rick Sternbach , VFX expert Ronald B. Moore , writer/producer Ronald D. Moore — along with an extremely rare public appearance from  Star Trek: Voyager co-creator and showrunner Jeri Taylor .

Unfortunately, as the calendar has progressed a number of Star Trek headliners have cancelled their appearances due to a mix of professional and personal reasons; while some cancellations are typical for conventions, this year’s extended cancellation list can almost certainly be attributed, in some part, to pandemic impact — whether it be for extended filming schedules on Discovery , travel restrictions, or personal health decisions.

This year’s event will be a bit different in terms of programming, as Creation Entertainment’s license to use Star Trek branding expired at the end of 2020 — for example, all of the attending guests are listed professional headshots instead of in-character photos, there will be no Star Trek prop or costume displays, and so forth. (We have heard that actors will still have licensed Star Trek photos for autographs on at their tables, however.)

While the full week’s schedule will be published in the final days ahead of the convention start in August, there have already been a number of special events announced , from Star Trek  cast members participating in creative new presentations to a number of science-themed panels to teach attendees about the future of the universe.

The annual  Saturday Night Gala returns on August 14, featuring the Nevada Pops Orchestra — which this year will feature not only  Star Trek composers Dennis McCarthy and Jeff Russo taking the stage as guest conductors, but Trek actors and stage stars Anthony Rapp and Isa Briones will also lend their voices to special performances during the concert.

The 55-Year Mission Tour Las Vegas’ Saturday Night Gala features an unforgettable evening of music, curated and conducted by esteemed conductor and musicologist (and Trekker) Richard McGee and the featuring the renowned Nevada Pops Orchestra! They will perform a magnificent show honoring Gene Roddenberry’s 100th birthday and his legacy and impact. We are also proud to have Grammy Award-winning composer Dennis McCarthy and Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Russo as guest conductors — and as an exceptional bonus, the incredibly talented Anthony Rapp and Isa Briones will be giving special performances with the orchestra!

Star Trek recurring guest stars Jeffrey Combs, Casey Biggs, and Vaughn Armstrong — who have been regularly performing on stage as the ‘ Star Trek Rat Pack’ for years at Creation events (and will again at this year’s convention) — will showcase some of their favorite Shakespeare moments on August 13.

Long before Jeffrey Combs, Vaughn Armstrong and Casey Biggs became part of the Star Trek universe they honed their craft upon the stage performing the works of the greatest playwright of all time, William Shakespeare. They were not alone. Most actors within the Star Trek family did the same.

Several podcasts will have headlining moments on stage during the convention, helmed by knowledgeable fans and experts who have longtime relationships with the  Star Trek franchise, among them  Enterprise Incidents with Scott & Steve and  Inglorious Treksperts.

star trek festivals

Co-hosted by respected Star Trek enthusiast/entertainment critic SCOTT MANTZ and lifelong fan STEVE MORRIS, the in-depth podcast analyzes and reviews every TOS episode (in production order) with a fresh new perspective, personal recollections and loads of fascinating trivia about how those classic episodes came to be. We are excited to have Scott and Steve host a live podcast broadcast on-stage at our 55-Year Mission Tour, highlighting a classic episode from TOS.

The hosts of the wildly popular Star Trek podcast, Inglorious Treksperts, Mark A. Altman (Pandora, Free Enterprise, The Librarians) and Daren Dochterman (Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition) bring you a very special live panel on Friday, with some very special surprise guests — including Ashley E. Miller (X-Men: First Class; DOTA: Dragon’s Blood) and Rafe Needleman (The Official Star Trek Trivia Book) — to learn all that is learnable and know all that is knowable as they discuss the Star Trek Universe in a way only they can. You don’t want to miss this rare chance to see Inglorious Treksperts live and in person and you never know who’ll beam in. Join us on Friday!

Treksperts’ Daren Dochterman is also a member of the team working to restore  Star Trek: The Motion Picture — The Director’s Edition to 4K Blu-ray, after his participation in the original 2000-era project, so this event may give us some insight into the status and direction of that long-awaited upgrade.

While there won’t be any official  Star Trek props to showcase this year, franchise legend and notable photographer Leonard Nimoy will have a special exhibit at Creation’s convention, where a number of the dearly-departed Spock actor’s images will be available to view in an on-site gallery.

From his Shekhina and Secret Selves series to his other works, Leonard’s photography has been included in many museum collections, including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Judah L. Magnes Museum, The LA County Museum of Art, the Jewish Museum of NY, The New Orleans Museum of Fine Art and The Hammer Museum. Now you’ll be able to view some of Leonard’s amazing work in a special exhibition at the convention, so make sure to mark it down as a must-see!

For those of you wearing blue Starfleet uniforms, a series of science panels are set to occur throughout the week, looking at today’s scientific breakthroughs and how the futuristic sci-fi phenomena of  Star Trek can fit with today’s knowledge of the natural world.

Star Trek  science advisor Dr. Mohamed Noor and  Star Trek: Discovery admiral Jayne Brook , who host a YouTube channel which launched earlier this year,  will be running three panels throughout the week; Brook will join Noor on stage for the third event.

Panel 1: Why Are There So Many Humanoids on Star Trek? An Evolutionary Perspective Have you ever wondered why most alien life depicted on Star Trek strongly resembles us Earthlings (besides the use of human actors)? Come explore the possibility of humanoid or other forms of life on other planets with Dr. Noor. Panel 2: Genetics, Ancestry, Race, and Star Trek In real life and throughout Star Trek, we hear about “DNA” and “genetic tests” all the time. How do these work? Come have a primer on basic transmission and genetic ancestry testing with Dr. Mohamed Noor, learn many of the fundamental concepts, and see how these concepts get applied in the Star Trek universe across the various series. Panel 3: BioTrekkie with the Admiral: Jayne Brook and Dr. Noor on Star Trek: Discovery Following their YouTube mini-series earlier this year, actress Jayne Brook (“Admiral Cornwell”) and science adviser Dr. Mohamed Noor talk about Star Trek: Discovery– the real science and more!

Planetary geologist Dr. David A. Williams , who has been involved in several past (and future) NASA and ESA missions, will hold a pair of panels around his expertise.

Panel 1: Titan – The Past and Future Exploration of Saturn’s Largest Moon Many discoveries resulted from the NASA Cassini Saturn orbiter’s study of its moon Titan: hydrocarbon lakes, rivers, and oceans, a thick atmosphere with changing clouds and rain, long, linear sand dunes, and evidence of cryo- (cold) volcanism. Join ASU Professor David Williams to discuss all things Titan, as well as the capabilities of the first aerial rover of another world. Panel 2: Class L, K, or M? Exploring the Strange New Worlds of Our Solar System through NASA’s Planetary Missions All the Star Trek TV series and movies have visited a wide variety of strange, new worlds, many Earth-like (Class M), but others very different: ice worlds, volcano worlds, gas worlds, and more. How do they compare with the worlds in our own Solar System? This presentation will include a look ahead to planetary missions coming in the decade of the 2020s.

A group of  Star Trek: Discovery’s actors have taken to regular Dungeons and Dragons gaming adventures — often recapped through the cast’s social media accounts — and an on-stage campaign of the role-playing game will take place with Discovery  actors Anthony Rapp , Mary Wiseman , Blu del Barrio , Mary Chieffo , and Noah Averbach-Katz .

Watch some of your favorite  Discovery  stars play…  Dungeons and Dragons ?! Come see how the  Discovery  actors spend their time away from set — fighting dragons, escaping dungeons, and being total nerds! It doesn’t matter if you’re a D&D veteran or have never even heard of the game, you’ll have a great time watching DISCO cast members improvise, role-play, and try to make each other laugh.

Tickets for the convention, which runs from  August 11 – 15 , are still available both through Creation’s official website and for discounted single-day pricing at Goldstar , for those of you planning to attend.

While our full TrekCore team won’t be making the journey to Las Vegas this year, we’ll still have a small contingent of our usual crew on-site for the week’s events — all of us vaccinated and packing face masks to wear — so be on the lookout for all of our coverage both here at TrekCore.com and throughout the week on our Twitter feed.

Will you be attending Creation Entertainment’s  55 Year Mission Tour convention this year? Are you unable to visit due to travel restrictions, or choosing to stay home due to pandemic concerns?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below — and for those of you heading to Vegas, we’ll see you at the con!

10 great sites for a 'Star Trek' pilgrimage

star trek festivals

Forget the beach. Star Trek fans can venture to the 23rd century for vacation this year. Cities and filming sites are playing up their ties to the science fiction series with tours, displays and festivals, says Dayton Ward, author of Hidden Universe Travel Guides: Star Trek: The Klingon Empire (Insight Editions, $19.99), an intergalactic handbook. And with a new series, Star Trek: Discovery , now running on CBS All Access, interest continues to grow. He shares some real-world spots for a “Trekcation” with Larry Bleiberg for USA TODAY.

Riverside, Iowa You’ve got to hand it to the folks of Riverside. Although Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry said that leading character Capt. James T. Kirk was from Iowa, he never named a city. In 1985, the Riverside city council claimed the honor, passing a resolution declaring it to be the cocky commander’s hometown. And Star Trek writers eventually confirmed it, placing scenes in a Riverside of the future. Now the city has an historic marker and museum, and hosts an annual festival. trekfest.com

Star Trek: Original Series Set Tour Ticonderoga, N.Y. No need to beam yourself up to the USS Enterprise. Trekkie extraordinaire James Cawley used original blueprints to painstakingly recreate the original 1966 television studio set in upstate New York, complete with bridge, engine room and sick bay. “It’s jaw-dropping how accurate it is, with the same doors, panels and knobs,” Ward says. startrektour.com

Titan Missile Museum Tucson Even non-Trekkies will be fascinated by this site, which preserves an actual nuclear missile silo. The National Historic Landmark is the sole remaining intercontinental complex in the country. And it also happens to appear in scenes from the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact . titanmissilemuseum.org

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park Agua Dulce, Calif. There’s a reason this tilted rock formation in Los Angeles County looks familiar. “It shows up multiple times in the original show,” Ward says, most famously when Capt. Kirk fights an armor-clad reptile named the Gorn. “You can visit every day — unless it’s closed for filming.” parks.lacounty.gov

Vulcan, Canada This tiny Canadian prairie town didn’t take its name from the logic-prone alien species. But it profits from the connection with an Enterprise monument and Vulcon, a Trek festival scheduled for July 22-23. “It’s the Star Trek version of Woodstock or Burning Man,” Ward says. The town also plays a starring role in a song and music video by indie band The Rural Alberta Advantage. vulcantourism.com

Valley of Fire State Park Nevada This stunning sandstone park near Las Vegas attracts mountain bikers, hikers and devotees of the 1994 Star Trek: Generations film, who recognize it as the alien planet Veridian III. Ward notes that another film, Galaxy Quest , a parody of Star Trek , was also filmed here. parks.nv.gov

Broken Bow, Okla. The pilot episode of the Star Trek: Enterprise television series takes its name from this southeast Oklahoma town best known for mountain parks and bass fishing. In an example of future history, this is where an alien ship is destined to crash in 2151. “That gets us involved with the Klingon empire for the first time,” Ward says. visitmccurtaincounty.com

Roswell, N.M. Seventy years ago, a tiny New Mexico town made global headlines when the U.S. military reported the crash of a flying saucer. Decades later, the television show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine claimed responsibility, showing how several of its time-traveling characters caused the scare. The city, now home to a UFO festival, museum and research center, doesn’t discount any theories. seeroswell.com

Naval Air Station Alameda, Calif. This Bay Area military base saw some serious action in the film Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home . It’s where characters Uhura and Chekov raided a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier to steal radioactive isotopes to fix their starship. The decommissioned post, now undergoing redevelopment, has a small history museum outlining its World War II history. alamedanavalairmuseum.org

Bozeman, Mont. Mark your calendar for 2063, because this scenic college town will play a monumental role in global history. That’s when a Vulcan ship will arrive and humans and aliens will finally meet. At least that’s how the story plays out in Star Trek: First Contact , actually filmed in California and Arizona. But Ward’s undeterred. “Fifty years from now, maybe fans will gather and see what happens. If I’m still around, I’ll head up there.” bozemanchamber.com

Trekfest XXXIV

Riverside, Iowa — Friday, June 29 at 5 p.m. to Saturday, June 30 at 11:30 p.m.

star trek festivals

We’re roughly 215 years out from the birth of James T. Kirk in Riverside, Iowa, and the town’s present-day residents (and traveling Star Trek fans) continue to celebrate the future occasion with their annual Trekfest. The 34th festival will take place this weekend, with events beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 29, and running late into the evening on Saturday, June 30.

In his 1968 book The Making of Star Trek , Stephen E. Whitfield and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry wrote that Captain Kirk was (or would be) born in “a small town in the State of Iowa.” After reading the book, Riverside councilman and self-proclaimed Trekkie Steve Miller decided Riverside might as well be that small Iowa town. He proposed such at the March 25, 1985 city council meeting, and his motion passed — Riverside had officially declared itself the future birthplace of James T. Kirk. The town wrote a letter to Rodenberry, who accepted the idea.

In short succession, the Riverside slogan “Where the best begins” became “Where the Trek begins,” a “birthstone” was erected on a plot of land owned by Miller, behind the town barber shop, and the annual River Fest became Trekfest.

star trek festivals

Trekfest is still a very community-focused Iowa event — complete with a pancake breakfast, 5k run benefiting area schools, local food vendors, tractor pull, co-ed softball tournament, fireworks show and performances by local musicians; this year, on Friday, the Swing Crew (8:30 p.m.), and Saturday: Abbie Callahan (7:30 a.m.), the Awful Purdies (Saturday at 12:30 p.m.), Chautauqua Road Band (4 p.m.) and Brutal Republic (Saturday at 8 p.m.).

But the fest has a distinctly Star Trek touch, including parade floats inspired by Starfleet ships (the parade is Saturday at 10 a.m.), a Star Trek costume contest (11 a.m. Saturday on the mainstage) and trivia contest (8 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Parish Hall) and a Star Trek movie marathon (12-6 p.m. Saturday).

Headlining the 2018 Trekfest are John and Maria Jose Tenutos, sociology professors at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois and Star Trek historians. You read that right.

What does it mean to be a Star Trek historian? For one, it means the Tenutos have been invited to discuss the franchise and its surrounding culture by numerous networks and publications, including BBC Radio, CBS News, WGN News, the Chicago Tribune , USA Today , WIRED and, most recently, Netflix.

The Tenutos featured in the season two premiere of Netflix’s The Toys That Made Us , discussing the Star Trek toy market, which often included slapping a Star Trek label on random, already-existing toys. The Tenutos show off a parachuting Dr. McCoy toy, and a Gorn action figure from Mego made using the head of a reptilian Marvel Comics villain and the body of a Planet of the Apes character.

The Tenutos also appeared in the Toys That Made Us episode about Star Wars toys, but we won’t speak of that franchise here.

For Trekfest, John and Maria Tenuto will hold two presentations. The first will be Friday at 7 p.m., fitting the festival’s theme “Khhaaannnn!”: “Thriving on Limitations: The Making of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan .” The Tenutos will present more than 100 newly discovered photos from behind the scenes of the beloved 1982 film , and discuss “how it was made despite limitations of budget, time, and technology,” according to a Trekfest press release.

Saturday’s presentation is “A Remarkable Life: A Tribute to Leonard Nimoy,” beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Tenutos will again examine rare images from their research, this time looking at the life and times of Nimoy, who portrayed Spock in the original series and died of chronic obstructive pulimonary disease in 2015.

Riverside’s relationship with Star Trek has been largely positive, helping to multiply the town’s population of 1,000 by a factor five, 10 or more every summer during Trekfest. But their association with Captain Kirk has not always brought positive attention to Riverside.

In 2005, William Shatner, who portrayed Kirk in the Star Trek original series and its films, starred in the Spike TV reality mini-series Invasion Iowa , filmed in Riverside in the fall of 2004. The series had Shatner auditioning eager Riverside residents to appear in a sci-fi film he was directing. The film, however, was fake, and the show served as an elaborate joke on the people of Riverside — “a big old hoax on these good folks,” as Shatner sings in the promo . Ha, ha.

Riverside residents didn’t take it too hard; Trekfest vendors will often sell Invasion Iowa DVDs, and props from the reality show are housed in Riverside’s The Voyage Home museum alongside memorabilia from the Star Trek TV series.

Other Star Trek icons have visited Riverside under much friendlier flags: Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original series, was the grand marshal of the Trekfest parade in 2008, also serving as the judge for the costume contest and a guest speaker. He performed these roles again in 2009, this time joined by George Takei (Sulu) and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura); they hosted a mini-convention at Riverside Casino that same weekend, taking photos and signing autographs. Koenig returned once again in 2010.

Despite the endorsement of Gene Rodenberry, Star Trek media largely ignored Kirk’s Iowa roots until 2009. Riverside is considered to have entered official Star Trek canon with J.J. Abrams’ reboot film Star Trek , though the name “Riverside” is never stated and the “Iowa” scenes are filmed in California.

In Abrams’ alternate Star Trek timeline, Kirk is born in space, but raised in Iowa — a move some Iowans didn’t fully appreciate . Riverside’s implicit role in the Star Trek universe is elevated, however — Abrams places a Starfleet shipyard near the town, where the U.S.S. Enterprise is constructed. There’s also a hip future bar nearby, frequented by Starfleet cadets and officers.

YouTube video

Riverside residents received a special advanced screening of the 2009 Star Trek , confirming this Riverside-centered film was not, in fact, a hoax.

Star Trek is probably the most iconic sci-fi franchise of all time, giving us all a utopian vision of a future full of exploration and cooperation between different species and planets – but did you know it has a surprising tie to Iowa? The charming, roguish Captain James T. Kirk is a human who will be born right here in Iowa, in the small town of Riverside – his future birthplace. There’s even a monument to his future birth a couple hundred from now, so it only makes sense that Riverside is home to the biggest Star Trek festival in Iowa or anywhere else! Trek Fest isn’t a simple convention. Rather, every June, it takes over much of Riverside, filling it with events dedicated to the most popular characters and settings from the Star Trek universe.

You’ve heard our incredible story about being two young teenage Star Trek fans in NYC and getting the legendary Gene Roddenberry to do interviews for our fanzine in the early ‘70s. Our excitement could not be contained (even on the rotary phone), and Gene became a true mentor for us as we went where no fans had gone with an amazing Trek convention voyage that has lasted over 40 plus years!   For all these many decades, we have been proud to honor the philosophy of Roddenberry and have endeavored -- from our very first convention in 1971 (at the age of 15) to today -- to provide safe and welcoming places for everyone who shared those common values. Our goal is to celebrate diversity and inclusion as Star Trek embodies so well, especially when it is at its finest.   Now, we are thrilled to continue the spirit and embark on an epic new national tour!  After an amazing time in San Francisco this past March and the tremendous outpouring of favorable feedback, much aligned with the goals mentioned above, we are proud to announce our next regional (non-Vegas) stop.   Join us in rocking  Nashville on Sept. 13-15, 2024  with three days of intergalactic non-stop fun.   As a reminder, at Creation conventions, we do not oversell admission passes, so everyone who has a pass will be able to see all the daytime programming, including star panels, trivia games, cosplay contest and more!  It is the Creation Difference, and we want to make sure you know about it! Have any ideas for events, guests, panels at this convention?  Write to us at  [email protected]  with your suggestions and ideas.  In San Francisco, we spent 80 minutes post-show with fans for feedback (thanks to all there!) and we’re always wanting to hear from everyone with their ideas!

Make this ‘Star Trek’ motel part of a geeky getaway on the Oregon coast

man and woman, both in Star Trek Starfleet shirts, smile in a motel room decorated like the Starship Enterprise

Itty Bitty Inn Jeff and Jennifer Hunger, visiting from the Chicaco area, dressd appropriately for their stay in the Star Trek room at the Itty Bitty Inn in North Bend. (Samantha Swindler/Samantha Swindler/ The Oregonian)

Looking to boldly go where … frankly, many men have gone before? Book a night in the uber-popular Star Trek room at the Itty Bitty Inn in North Bend on the southern Oregon coast.

The Star Trek themed motel room places guests on the bridge of the original Starship Enterprise, complete with screen-accurate controls and wall-mounted communicators. Inn owner Rik Villarreal, an electrician by trade, has installed buttons and switches throughout the room that activate various sound and lighting effects.

There’s a tri-dimensional chessboard, paper masks of your favorite Starfleet characters, a few tribbles hidden here and there, copies of the original movies to be watched in the room, viewing logs for all the original episodes, an owner’s manual for the Bird-of-Prey warship (written in Klingon) … and it only gets geekier from there.

Ensign Rizzo — notable as the rare “red shirt” to survive an attack on an away mission — carries a towel rack. The bathroom has a 1930′s style in tribute to the time-travel episode “City on the Edge of Forever.” Two framed newspapers in the bathroom depict two realities — one where social worker Edith Keeler is killed, another where she meets with the president about her peace initiative. (Fans will get the reference.)

“In the captain’s log, you’ll find signatures from people who worked on ‘DS9,’ on ‘Voyager,’ on ‘TNG,’” Villarreal said. Marina Sirtis, who played Counselor Deanna Troi, once stayed the night.

Many of the guests come wearing their own cosplay, including Jeff and Jennifer Hunger, recent visitors from Chicago who booked the room a year in advance.

“We’re huge Star Trek fans,” Jeff said while posing with a tribble and sharing a Vulcan hand salute.

You can’t miss the Itty Bitty Inn during a drive along U.S. Hwy 101 in North Bend. The motel is covered in murals of both Star Trek and Star Wars characters, and a glowing sign promises “themed rooms.”

The Itty Bitty Inn was the original name of the small, five-room motel when it opened in 1950. Villarreal said he wasn’t looking to become an innkeeper, but the former owners, who were friends, approached him about buying the motel in 2014.

Villarreal – who had no background in hospitality but was moving back to his hometown of North Bend – figured, why not? He could run the motel and live there.

“It was a clean, humble vibe, just an old-school motor inn,” he said. “Their mission was to provide a clean, quality service, without necessarily pumping a whole lot of kitschy goofiness into it.”

But Villarreal envisioned a geeky, retro oasis on the Oregon coast. He redesigned the motel rooms around things he loved: namely, Star Trek, tiki lounges and the 1970s.

“Just by nature, I can be a little dramatic, if not flamboyant,” Villarreal said. “I wanted to exercise some creative freedom that my job did not allow me to.”

That other job? Providing energy management for corporations and the defense sector with his business, EdComm — something that, as he puts it, doesn’t always allow for flourishes of “dramatic creativity.”

He’s put plenty of drama into the Itty Bitty Inn.

In addition to the Star Trek room, the motel has two tiki-themed rooms — the Tiki Cha Cha room, named after a KBOO radio program (whose founder lives in North Bend) with a ceiling painted like a grass hut, and the Tiki Lounge room, with more of a swanky vibe. Each room is furnished with mid-century decor and comes with a stash of “emergency leis.” The Tiki Lounge room has a record player loaded with Martin Denny records.

The Oregon Trail room features posters from old westerns and a large mural of the Three Sisters mountains. It’s admittedly the least wild of the rooms, though Villarreal is considering turning it into the forest moon of Endor for Star Wars fans.

The Disco room comes with a light switch that activates a spinning disco ball and plays the Bee Gee’s hit “Staying Alive.”

“What ‘70′s room would be complete without a rebuilt vintage Atari 2600 circa 1979,” Villarreal said, opening the top dresser drawer to reveal a stash of game cartridges. “I happen to know that Atari Millipede, Space Invaders and Donkey Kong pairs remarkably well with a locally brewed IPA or cranberry cider.”

Guests who aren’t in the disco room but want to get their retro gaming on can rent a vintage Atari, an assortment of game cartridges and an old-style cathode-ray tube television for $15.

“I think the amount of people that (the motel) brings in is really something special,” said Vera Martinez, Villarreal’s daughter and co-innkeeper. “We see walks of life from all over the world. We’ll have people come from Europe, Asia, South Africa. We like to regard this as a second home for them.”

Each modest room comes with a tiled shower and toilet, and a small breakfast nook with a mini fridge and microwave. Guests are offered complimentary fresh-ground coffee from Bridge View Coffee Roasters and local IPAs or cranberry cider (Coos County is Oregon’s cranberry capital , after all). Villarreal will shuttle people to and from North Bend’s tiny airport and provide bike trail and kayaking drop offs. Guests can also check out bicycles to get around town (along with helmets and safety vests.)

Villarreal has installed two 60-amp car chargers in the parking lot, with instructions written in English, Klingon and Aurebesh (for the Star Wars fans.)

“We are all inclusive here,” he said.

With rates ranging from $89-$128, the Itty Bitty Inn was named Yelp’s No. 1 Budget Hotel in the U.S. in 2019. To book a room at the Itty Bitty Inn, 1504 Sherman Ave. in North Bend, visit ittybittyinn.com or call 541-756-6398.

Villarreal grew up in North Bend, which he described as “the Oregon Coast’s nerdy little secret.”

“Geek culture here has always been big, since I was a little kid,” he said. “Dungeons and Dragons, sci-fi. We were doing cosplay before anybody called it cosplay.”

If you’re planning a geeky getaway to North Bend, here’s a few other stops to add to your trip:

Recycle Video Games, 1942 Sherman Ave.: This retailer specializing in rare retro video games and gaming systems has four locations on the Oregon coast but is headquartered in North Bend. Where To Watch Every Star Trek TV Show and Movie in Order

Official JustWatch writer

Paramount has ushered in a new era of Star Trek. Following the conclusion of Star Trek: Discovery , the studio ordered multiple new series and began developing the TV movie Star Trek: Chapter 31 , which will star Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh. Given its revitalization, now is the perfect time to delve into the franchise. This guide will demonstrate where and how to watch every Star Trek movie and TV show in order.

The Star Trek franchise began in 1966 with the premiere of Star Trek , also known as Star Trek: The Original Series. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the sci-fi series follows Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and First Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) as they guide the Enterprise on a mission of intergalactic space exploration. While the show received poor ratings during its three-season run, broadcast syndication and reruns breathed new life into the franchise, garnering it a cult following after its 1969 cancelation.

Following the show’s re-evaluation, Roddenberry convinced Paramount to continue the original series on the big screen with Star Trek: The Motion Picture . Although it wasn’t a huge box-office hit, it did well enough to earn five more sequels, for which Roddenberry was a consultant.

As Star Trek: The Original Series remained one of the most popular syndicated TV shows years after its release, Paramount and Gene Roddenberry began working on another live-action series: Star Trek: The Next Generation . The series takes place aboard a new Enterprise one century after the events of the original series, with Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) at the helm. Along with his crew, Captain Picard carries on his predecessors' mission of exploring new worlds.

Star Trek: The Next Generation also continued on the big screen after its conclusion, receiving four feature films. While films like Star Trek: First Contact were well-received, Star Trek: Nemesis was a critical and financial failure. The failure of Star Trek: Nemesis was followed by another blow as the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled amid low ratings.

Paramount switched directions on the big screen and released what many consider a “reboot” trilogy. However, the films aren’t an official reboot as they merely explore an alternate timeline known as the Kelvin Timeline and see Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto take over as Captain Kirk and Spock, respectively.

While the Kelvin Timeline film series played out, Star Trek went on a hiatus on the small screen. After a 12-year break, Paramount revived the franchise, aiming to create Star Trek shows specifically for its streaming service, CBS All Access (now Paramount+). In 2017, it released Star Trek: Discovery, followed by a new round of shows, including Star Trek: Picard , which continued Captain Picard’s story after Star Trek: The Next Generation.

There are no signs of the franchise slowing down, with the first TV movie, Star Trek: Chapter 31, on the way and Paramount showing interest in further Star Trek TV films, theatrical films, and shows.

How to watch the Star Trek franchise in order

Viewers can watch the Star Trek franchise either by release date order or chronologically. Those hoping to watch chronologically should know that the Kelvin Timeline trilogy takes place outside of the timeline of the other shows and movies, so they can technically be watched at any point. Star Trek: Short Treks also does not fit in the chronological order as it is an anthology series. Additionally, viewers may have to jump between shows occasionally due to time jumps in series like Star Trek: Discovery.

See below for the chronological order of every Star Trek show and movie:

Star Trek is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise and its crew. The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, roughly during the 2260s. The crew is headed by Captain James T. Kirk, first officer Spock, and chief medical officer Leonard McCoy. Shatner's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose: The series was produced from 1966-67 by Desilu Productions, and by Paramount Television from 1968-69. Star Trek aired on NBC from September 8, 1966 to June 3, 1969. Although this television series had the title of Star Trek, it later acquired the retronym of Star Trek: The Original Series to distinguish the show within the media franchise that it began. Star Trek's Nielsen ratings while on NBC were low, and the network canceled it after three seasons and 79 episodes. Nevertheless, the show had a major influence on popular culture and it became a cult classic in broadcast syndication during the 1970s. The show eventually spawned a franchise, consisting of five additional television series, 12 theatrical films, and numerous books, games, toys, and other products.

5 Star Trek Captains Became Alternate Reality Admirals

  • Star Trek explores alternate universes where famous captains achieve different ranks, offering insight into possible futures that may be erased.
  • Admirals Janeway and Riker were prominent in alternate realities, while Admiral Picard's future was hinted at in the series finale.
  • The Kelvin Universe showcased Admiral Archer's long life, and Admiral Pike faced a tragic fate in the Kelvin Timeline.

Several classic Star Trek Captains have risen to the rank of Admiral in the Prime Universe, while others have only achieved the title in an alternate universe. Since Star Trek: The Original Series began in 1966, the franchise has introduced multiple alternate futures and realities. With time travel and other science fiction concepts, some Star Trek episodes offer a glimpse into possible futures that end up being erased. The J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films brought another alternate universe to life, known as the Kelvin Timeline, where some characters had achieved different ranks than their Prime Universe counterparts.

Two of Star Trek's most famous captains , James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), both achieved the rank of Admiral onscreen but later fell back into their old roles as Captains. Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) became a Vice Admiral soon after the USS Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant, but the finale of Star Trek: Voyager offered a glimpse at an alternate universe Admiral Janeway. Captains Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) only became Admirals in an alternate universe, as did Star Trek: The Next Generation's Commander William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes).

The Complete Star Trek Timeline Explained

Star Trek's timeline spans a thousand years of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets, with alternate realities and time travel galore.

Admiral William T. Riker In Star Trek: The Next Generation All Good Things

After the events of star trek: picard season 3, riker should become an admiral in the prime universe, too..

The Star Trek: The Next Generation series finale , "All Good Things...," beautifully wraps up the series in a way that brings the story full circle while also looking to the future. As Captain Picard jumps between three different timelines, he must figure out a way to stop a dangerous anomaly from destroying the universe (with a little help from John de Lancie's Q). One of the timelines Picard's mind jumps to is an alternate future where he has retired to his family's vineyard in France. In this possible future, Commander Riker has been promoted to Admiral and is stationed at Starbase 247.

After Riker rejects Picard's first request for help, believing him to be affected by his Irumodic Syndrome, Jean-Luc reaches out to his ex-wife, Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). When Dr. Crusher's ship, the USS Pasteur, is attacked and destroyed by Klingons, Riker arrives with the USS Enterprise-D to save the day. Picard eventually convinces his former crew members to help him, and the future Enterprise travels into the anomaly along with the Enterprises of the past and present. The anomaly is then sealed, saving the galaxy, and the possible future is erased, forgotten by everyone except Picard.

Admiral Kathryn Janeway In Star Trek: Voyager Endgame

Kathryn janeway becomes an accomplished admiral in every universe..

Star Trek: Voyager's series finale, "Endgame," also features an Admiral from an alternate future, as Admiral Janeway of 2404 travels back in time to help the USS Voyager return home. In Admiral Janeway's timeline, Voyager remained in the Delta Quadrant for 23 years, and numerous lives were lost, including Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). When Admiral Janeway orders Voyager to the location of a Borg transwarp hub, she works with her past self, Captain Janeway, to devise a way to both destroy the hub and return Voyager home 16 years earlier.

Admiral Janeway ultimately allows herself to be assimilated by the Borg, where she unleashes a pathogen that devastates the Borg Queen and her collective. The Admiral's sacrifice allows Captain Janeway and her crew to travel through the transwarp corridor, which eventually brings them back to the Alpha Quadrant. Soon after the USS Voyager's return to Earth, Captain Janeway is promoted to Vice Admiral and given a position at Starfleet Command.

As seen in Star Trek: Prodigy, Vice Admiral Janeway later commanded the USS Dauntless on a mission to find the USS Protostar and Captain Chakotay.

Admiral Jonathan Archer in Star Trek (2009)

According to the kelvin timeline, jonathan archer lived a long life as an admiral..

Although Star Trek: Enterprise's Captain Jonathan Archer has never officially made an on-screen appearance as an Admiral, he was mentioned in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009). After Spock (Zachary Quinto) maroons James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) on Delta Vega for insubordination, Kirk encounters the elderly Prime Universe version of Spock (Leonard Nimoy). Kirk and Prime Spock then head to a nearby Starfleet outpost on the planet, where they meet Montgomery Scott (Simon Pegg). Spock is fascinated to encounter the Kelvin Universe version of the Enterprise Chief Engineer, and he asks Scotty about his "theory of transwarp beaming."

10 J.J. Abrams Star Trek Movie Positives You Only Notice On Rewatch

J.J Abrams rebooted Star Trek in 2009 with a new USS Enterprise crew & the creation of the Kelvin Timeline, ushering in a new era of modern Star Trek.

Scotty replies that he got into a debate with his instructor at Starfleet Academy about the possibility of beaming a lifeform from one planet to another. Scotty says he tested his theory on "Admiral Archer's prized beagle," but that he doesn't know where the dog ended up. He blames this accident for his posting on such a remote planet. In 2258, Archer would have been around 145, which is not impossible in Star Trek's far future. It's unlikely the prized beagle could be Porthos from Star Trek: Enterprise, but it could be one of the beagle's descendants.

Star Trek (2009) writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci confirmed that the Archer referenced is, indeed, Jonathan Archer from Star Trek: Enterprise .

Admiral Christopher Pike In Star Trek Into Darkness

The kelvin universe pike avoided one tragic fate only to suffer another..

In Star Trek's Kelvin timeline, Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) served as an instructor at Starfleet Academy, and he was the one who convinced James Kirk to join Starfleet. Pike became the first Captain of the USS Enterprise when it was launched in 2258, but he later surrendered himself to Nero (Eric Bana) and transferred command to Spock. After the events of Star Trek (2009), Pike is promoted to Rear Admiral and Kirk takes over command of the Enterprise.

In Star Trek Into Darkness, Admiral Pike relieves Captain Kirk of his command after Kirk breaks the Prime Directive on Nibiru. Pike takes over command of the Enterprise again, appointing Kirk as his First Officer. When a summit is called to discuss a bombing in London, Khan Noonien Singh (Benedict Cumberbatch) attacks the gathered officers, killing Admiral Pike. Kirk then retakes command of the Enterprise and sets out to avenge his friend and former Captain.

Admiral Christopher Pike In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds A Quality Of Mercy

Pike comes face to face with himself and seemingly seals his own fate..

In the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1 finale , Captain Christopher Pike encounters an older version of himself from the future. Pike had been reflecting on his tragic destiny and decided to write letters to the cadets who will be killed in the training accident that cripples him. Admiral Pike informs his former self that there will be dire consequences if he alters the future, and he sends Captain Pike to a pivotal moment in history. "A Quality of Mercy" then throws Captain Pike into an encounter with the Romulans that was originally depicted in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Balance of Terror."

Pike handles the conflict with the Romulans differently than Captain Kirk did, which results in a Romulan/Federation War and causes Spock to suffer a debilitating injury. Admiral Pike then appears and tells the Captain that Spock suffers a tragedy every time Pike tries to avoid his own tragic fate. Captain Pike returns to his own timeline, where he decides not to inform the cadets of the training accident, thus erasing the future of Admiral Pike. With "A Quality of Mercy," Captain Pike's Star Trek fate now seems sealed, meaning he will never make it to the position of Admiral in the Prime Universe.
