There's still nothing like Australia.

How can you possibly choose which of Australia’s tourist destinations to visit? It’s a big country, so it’s definitely not easy. But no matter which Australia vacation destinations you opt to experience, you’ll be impressed – by the clean and friendly cities, gorgeous natural settings, accessible wildlife, secluded islands and award-winning luxury resorts. Popular tourist destinations in Australia include Sydney, the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, Lord Howe Island in New South Wales, Kangaroo Island in South Australia, and Rottnest Island in Western Australia. Best of all, Aussie summer is U.S. winter, so you can hit the beach while the folks back home are hitting the slopes. And even during winter Down Under (June-August), Great Barrier Reef resorts get plenty of sunshine with temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s.

In terms of romantic travel destinations, Australia also excels. Its luxury resorts, such as those scattered amid the 74 Whitsunday Islands on the Great Barrier Reef, make ideal honeymoon hideaways. Amid this mosaic of white sand and swirling turquoise and sapphire reefs couples can relax as their every whim is catered to with genuine Aussie hospitality. And one can’t mention the world’s largest and most famous reef without talking about scuba diving. So let’s just say that if you’re a diver, the waters off coastal Queensland are like your birthday, Christmas and the Fourth of July all rolled into one. The best travel destinations are the ones that match your appetite for indulgence or adventure.

How to Get There

Australia’s major international airports are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. The flight from Los Angeles to Sydney is between 14-15 hours.

Getting Around

Australia has an impressive domestic air network. Qantas, Jetstar, Tiger Airways and Virgin Australia operate on the major inter-city routes.

Self-drives are a great way to see the country at your own pace, with both cars and campervans available for rent.

Trains are also a popular way to experience Australia. The Indian Pacific and the Ghan are considered two of the world’s great rail journeys.

Adelaide is a new city in an old land, founded as a British colony in 1836 and now being the capital of South Australia. Today, its rich mix of diverse cultures exists together in a relaxed and cosmopolitan lifestyle, having both many green parks as well as 30km of beaches stretching along its suburbs. The city is famous for its al fresco eating culture and it is the center of the Australian wine industry, with some of the best food and drinks in the world.

Alice Springs

Alice Springs, or ‘The Alice’, lies romantically in the heart of Australia, and it is unofficially considered as the Outback’s capital. While it was regarded as a ‘dead heart’ during colonial times, thanks to the surrounding barren landscapes, today both residents and visitors recognize the physical and spiritual importance of Australia’s Centre, and it indeed is beating alive with Aboriginal traditions and sacred sites, a vibrant local art culture with a fascinating pioneering history, and for sure incredible landscapes still. Alice Springs is one of the most interesting places on the continent, and most people agree on that you have not seen the Outback at all until you will have seen Alice for once.

Ballina Byron

The Ballina/Byron region is delightfully diverse. It ranges from the quiet family world of Ballina to Byron Bay, the former hippy capital of Australia. Byron Bay was once a simple whaling station later discovered by surfers. After the sixties, the place is nowadays swarmed with tourists and celebrities wishing to experience this alternative town, which is still one of the most hippy destinations on the East Coast.

Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains get their name from the natural blue haze created by vast eucalyptus forests in this World Heritage area. Tiny droplets of oil released from the trees mix with water vapor and sunlight to produce the distinctive color. Enjoy crisp mountain air, beautiful panoramas, charming villages, one of the world’s oldest cave systems, and exhilarating adventures in the Blue Mountains, near Sydney. You can even see dinosaur trees in the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah. This is a great Australian escape and a natural wonder of the world.

Brisbane is a lively, cosmopolitan city with excellent restaurants, beautiful riverside parks, a busy cultural calendar and a great nightlife. Its fantastic weather year-round has allowed outdoor activities to thrive and develop a vibrant cafe culture. The city is surrounded by some of the state’s major tourist attractions, and there is an abundant choice of day trips whether it be to the coast for the golden beaches, or inland for some of Queensland’s serene bush land, there is something for everybody.

Broome is situated in North-Western Australia, a two and a half hour flight from Perth. The surrounding region is full of color, culture and captivating scenery. Fiery red cliffs contrast with the unspoiled turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, dinosaur footprints tell secrets of ancient days and a multi-cultural population provides arts, performances and irresistible cuisine. The pearling industry has been an important part of the region’s economy. Many places and shops offer visitors closer insight into the pearl trade and the jewelry craft.

From World Heritage rain forest to sparkling beaches, the Byron Bay region on the NSW North Coast is full of natural wonders. The Aboriginal Arakwal people call it Cavvanbah – the meeting place. The area is also famous for its surf culture, alternative philosophies, organic food and outdoor adventures. Byron Bay’s natural attractions are impeccable – humpback whales cruise past the headland, dolphins frolic in the bay and storms create rainbows on the mountains. People from all walks of life meet here, drawn by Byron Bay’s vibrant energy.

People have been flocking to Cairns in search of treasure since the first gold rush. However, today prospectors come to mine the abundance of natural and environmental treasures that surround the city. With the tropical rain forest and the Great Barrier Reef in close proximity, Cairns attracts a young and intrepid crowd that adds to the vibrancy of this lively and welcoming city.

Edged by mountain ranges, Canberra is a planned city built on vast limestone. Canberra is Australia’s national capital – seat of the Federal parliament and home to many institutions and national monuments. Four distinct seasons add to its charm and visitors quickly discover that it really is Australia’s hidden gem. The surrounding countryside contains historic and picturesque rural villages and a burgeoning cool-climate wine industry.

Venture to this awe-inspiring island for an unforgettable getaway.

Coffs Harbour

Coffs Harbour is a paradise of attractions, from thrilling skydives and underwater adventures to dolphin shows and waterfront dining. Nearby you can walk above a rain forest canopy in a World Heritage wilderness. Famous for its bananas, fish and surf, this coastal city on the NSW North Coast is at the southern edge of the Solitary Islands Marine Park, a haven for turtles and great for diving. And relax on beautiful beaches in Coffs, as the locals call this much-loved destination halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and easy to get to by air, road or rail.

It is lush, tropical, and the gateway to top-end outback adventures through the world heritage Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. Darwin boasts an eclectic cultural mix: Asian music, food, and languages live side-by-side with aboriginal artistry, Australian beach culture, love of the outdoors, and a profound appreciation of cosmopolitanism.

This magnificent region offers relaxation in spectacular settings where you can do as much or as little as you choose.

And the region is famous for its Hastings River oysters and its vineyards produce award-winning wines. Has anyone got any experience of this please?

Just wondering if Imagine Cruising or Travel2 or both are the culprits here.

Travel2 appear to are based in USA with sn office in Glasgow. What???

Travel 2 have a office in Glasgow.

Both Travel 2 and Imagine Cruising share the same ownership and are either fully owned or part owned by the large Dnata Group (Emirates). Quite normal therefore for Travel 2 to supply services to Image Cruising.

Travel2 have been around for years. They're a UK company and part of Stella Travel Services along with Travelbag, Sunmaster and The Global travel group to name a few. Dnata bought Stella at the end of 2014. We used to use Travel2 a lot when I worked in travel but I was Travel2/4 back then. Dnata have a majority share in Imagine Cruising.

Tips for Traveling with 2 Under 2

Traveling with kids is a challenge, and that’s especially true with two kids. When both are also under two years old…well, let’s just say challenging probably isn’t a strong enough word!

Today Katelynn from Hampers and Hiccups is sharing her tips and tricks for making traveling with 2 under 2 just a little bit easier!

When I was pregnant with our second baby, my husband and I were considering taking a trip over to Wales, UK to see my aunt and her family before Sweet Girl turns 2.

This would put us in the air traveling with 2 under 2 for, oh, about a million hours. It’s a long trip from our home in Saskatchewan to their doorstep in Wrexham.

While we were still chewing this over, my father-in-law brought up the idea of taking the entire family down to Maricopa, Arizona. The timeline was the same as our dream trip!

All these conversations were taking place before we even had a second baby, but I was sure we’d be able to do some traveling with a rambunctious toddler and a 6-month-old.

So, we agreed to the Arizona trip and decided to save Wales for another year. When we head off, Sweet Girl will be 23 months old, and Pip 6 months old.

Now that Pip is born, and Christmas is over with, I’ve started focusing on our April trip to Maricopa.

I was half-planning the whole time, but just in my head. Now I’m actually making lists.

And holy moly, is there lots to consider!

This will be our first real trip with kids. No more carry-on luggage only. We’ll be waiting at the baggage carousal with the rest of heavy packers.

Anyway, here’s what’s been on my mind regarding our upcoming adventure traveling with 2 under 2.

Documentation

We started applying for passports for the kids (and renewing hubby’s) on December 27.

Good thing, too, because it took four (yes FOUR) tries at Service Canada before the applications were sent off for final approval and production.

Fingers crossed that they’re not sent back. Not sure Sweet Girl can handle another photo shoot.

Advice: Start this process as soon as you consider taking a trip. Better yet, have the kids’ done when they’re a few months old to avoid the photo fight and have a passport ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Travel Time

We have a couple different options for getting down to the Greater Phoenix Area:

Drive 2+ hours to Regina, SK, to fly into Sky Harbour, Phoenix

  • Shorter drive time
  • Possibility to stay at relatives/friends before and/or after flights
  • Could leave our van at a relative’s/friend’s to avoid costly airport parking fees
  • Longer flight
  • Bigger airports
  • More expensive tickets

Drive 4+ hours to Minot, ND, to fly out of Minot Airport via Allegiant and into Mesa

  • Customs are done on the ground at the border
  • MUCH smaller airports – less stress
  • Cheaper flights
  • Quicker plane ride and direct flight
  • Longer drive time
  • Nowhere to stay or leave our vehicle

We haven’t totally decided which route we’ll take, but we’re leaning towards Minot. A lot will depend on flight times and how they coincide with naps and feeds.

Thinking of breaking it up by heading to Minot a day early to go watersliding. Not sure if it will be too much or not.

Advice: Work around your kids as much as you can. Consider their personalities and what they can handle. Remember that this is all new to them and a lot will be overwhelming.

Seats for the Kids

A lot of airlines offer free travel for those under 2. However, these kids have to be on the lap of an adult.

I’m pretty sure our Sweet Girl won’t go for this for 5+ hours. We’ll probably end up buying a third seat.

I’m also planning to bring A LOT of activities to keep our kiddos occupied for the duration of our travel.

Advice: Call ahead to your airline to see what their policies, services and accommodations are regarding kids. You may not have to pay full price for a child’s seat. Enlist extra help if you think it’s necessary.

Oh. My. GOD! I am NOT looking forward to this. Our trip is 2 months away and I’ve already started the master packing list.

We’ll probably end up taking one suitcase for all our clothes and another (or 2) just for baby accessories – potty, bumbo, bedding, toys! See why we can’t just take carry ons?!

This being said, I’m a pretty efficient packer and plan to make the most out of our options.

We’ll each take our personal item and carry on, stuffed to the brim with necessary travel items and a few things in the (horrific) event that our luggage is lost.

I’m still deciding if we’re going to take our stroller or rent one. The idea of it getting broken in transit is kind of stressing me out.

Advice: Make the most of your luggage. Roll your clothes and tuck small things inside. Call your airline to find out exactly what is allowed. If you have access to a washing machine, cut back on the clothes.

My in-laws are renting a house for 2 weeks for this vacation and we’re invited to come whenever suits us.

I haven’t booked our official dates yet (waiting until the passports are in my hands!), but we’re looking at right after Easter for 4 days or so.

If you’re not familiar with the area, Maricopa is pretty much the most boring city you will ever find. It’s basically a massive retirement home with a couple golf courses.

I’ve been brainstorming and researching fun things to see and do in the surrounding areas while we’re there.

Which means we’ll be renting a car. While a van would be ideal, it costs 2-3x as much as a little car.

So, we’re going to have to figure out how to get all our luggage into a little sedan. This will be a true test to my efficiency!

Other than a mode of transportation, I’m also considering renting baby items to make things easier.

There are a few different companies in the Phoenix area that rent out items like play pens, cribs, high chairs, strollers and car seats.

Traveling with 2 under 2 means a LOT of baby gear. Renting it instead of trying to haul it along with us will likely make the most sense.

Advice: Do what makes your life easier, even if it costs a few more bucks. Remember this is to be a relaxing occasion!

To Cloth Diaper or Not

I’m about 99% sure that we’ll continue as usual with our cloth diaper routing. Since we’ll be staying in a house, I’ll have the ability to wash, so that’s a non-issue.

Once I know our flights and travel details, I’ll be able to better plan how this is going to look. The downside is it adds a lot of bulk to our packing.

I’m actually pretty excited about being able to sun the diapers in the winter, though!

Advice: Again, do what makes your life easier! Honestly, disposables would just stress me out (and cost more money).

Meals, Nursing and Snacks

Luckily, my father-in-law is offering to do the cooking when we’re down there. This is pretty great for me – nice break.

However, with a 6-month-old, I’m expecting to be in the early days of him learning to eat. With Sweet Girl, we practiced Baby-Led Weaning, and plan to do the same with Pip.

This means a bit of fore-thought and planning on my part, especially during the travel phase. It also means warding off comments and interference from family members not familiar with the process.

I’m planning to take LOTS of snacks. Even more than I think we’ll need. Sweet Girl loves to eat, and you never know when you’ll be stuck on a plane for delays.

Advice: Check with your airline to see what is permitted in carry-on luggage in terms of food goods.

Right now, I’m back down to pumping once a day. Once Pip is eating food and cuts out his 10:30pm feed, I plan to go back to twice/day.

I’m really undecided on if I’m going to pump while we’re away or not. I’m most concerned about transporting frozen breast milk back home.

However, I don’t want my supply to go down if I quit pumping for 5 days (or more) while we’re away.

Advice: Talk to your airline to see what the regulations and accommodations are for frozen breastmilk. Take a hand pump vs electric to cut down on luggage and add versatility.

As you can see, there’s a lot to think about when traveling with kids, and especially when traveling with 2 under 2!

It’s not just a case of throwing a few sets of clothes in a duffel bag and heading out.

You’ll need to pack extra baby gear, have a plan for snacks and diapering, and think about how to handle grumpy little ones on long flights.

And, of course, as stressful as some moments might be, you’ll probably want to take plenty of photos of your kids’ first big trip, so that you can capture this milestone just like you do others !

For our family, this will be a nice test to see if Wales is a practical idea for next year. Wish us luck on our first adventure traveling with 2 under 2!

I’m Katelynn, an (almost) 27 year old stay-at-home-mama to 2 precious miracles – Sweet Girl + Pip, as well as our fur baby – a Blue Heeler x Great Pyrenese, Silver. I’m married to my best friend & love of my life (how cliché, right?). Together, we live on a very special yard, close to the family farm and my husband’s home “town” of about 25 people. We’re part of that community, as well as the one I grew up in (300 people), about 10 miles from home. I enjoy a simpler way of life – getting back to nature, reusing + recycling, gardening + preserving. My hobbies are sewing, dirtbiking, reading, spending time at the lake cabin, hunting and watching my kids learn and grow. Come visit me at Hampers and Hiccups and on Pinterest and Twitter !

Don't Forget Your Travel W-2 When Doing Your Taxes

Learn how to do your taxes

Did you do a Personally Procured Move , also known as a PPM or DITY move, in 2020? If so, be sure that you have the special travel W-2 when you complete your 2020 income tax return.

Many military families are eager to file their tax returns when the IRS opens the filing season on Feb. 12, 2021, especially when they are expecting a refund. Having this special W-2 is an important part of having an accurate income tax return filing.

Reimbursements for PPM moves are taxable income to the military service member. As such, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service issues a W-2 for that money. It's found on MyPay, in the tax document section, under Travel/Miscellaneous Tax Statement (W-2).

Thankfully, that money isn't always taxable, or at least not all of it. Active-duty military service members moving on Permanent Change of Station orders are the only group of U.S. taxpayers who are still eligible to deduct moving expenses from their income tax calculations.

You'll use the information on the travel W-2 to calculate your deductible moving expenses on IRS Form 3903, Moving Expenses. The IRS has pretty specific rules on which moving expenses can be deducted. If you're unsure what you can include in your calculations, consider getting free assistance from your installation's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, or get advice from the Military OneSource MilTax program .

If you've been reimbursed more than your actual expenses, you must include the excess as income on Line 1 of your 1040 tax form. This may increase your tax liability for the year, which means you'll either get a smaller refund or owe a larger payment.

If qualified service members moving on PCS orders have actual moving expenses that exceed their reimbursement, they can deduct the excess costs on Line 13 of the 1040 tax form. This may decrease your tax liability for the year, which means you'll either get a larger refund or owe a smaller payment.

Either way, it's important that you report the income listed on your travel W-2. It has been reported to the IRS, and not showing it on your tax return may cause it to be flagged for review or even audit. Plus, if your expenses exceed your reimbursement, you want to get the benefit of that moving expense deduction.

If you don't know that it exists, it's easy to miss the travel W-2. The first time I saw one, I had no idea what it was or what to do with it. We ended up just adding it to our taxable income and paying full taxes on it. Be smarter than me, and calculate your actual moving expenses so that your tax return will be as accurate as possible, and you won't have to pay taxes on the full amount of your reimbursement.

Travel2be have witheld cash reimbursed…

Travel2be have witheld cash reimbursed to them from Egypt air for a flight that was cancelled due to Covid in December in 2021. I have confirmed with egypt airlines that travel2be has been reimbursed, and I have contacted travel2be to get personally reimbursed. they requested banking details for payment; but never paid and never answer emails. It appears fraudulent and they refuse to even notify customers; seems like a scam. Reference : Re: [Ticket #4981956] REFUND FROM EGYPT AIR - CA - 104046

ive booked a flexible ticket

ive booked a flexible ticket, and i would like to change the return date but the website isn't working properly, their not answering any phone calls, and i cant change my flight in the flight company's site because i closed the flight through travel2be. booking ID 22071420

Do not buy flexible tickets from these…

Do not buy flexible tickets from these guys. We asked to change the date but they wanted $2000 extra double the ticket price (they were supposed to charge the difference only) and also didn't provide the proof of this cost. We then went to their website and found a ticket which was cheaper than our original ticket that also matched their requirements of flights and route yet they didn't change it even after providing multiple screenshots and email. They stopped replying to email. We then went to our bank to reverse the transaction according to visa rules that they didn't fulfill their promises. After a long battle the merchant’s bank finally accepted our claim and we got our money back. Avoid them at any cost

Dear customer, Thanks for your review. We would like to check your case in detail and answer accordingly. In order to check your booking, we would need you to provide us with your booking ID (8 digit code provided in the confirmation e-mail) or any other information (e.g. e-mail address, passenger names, etc.). You can write this down directly within this review. We look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

No contact and no reply

On 3rd of December 2022, I ordered 2 tickets from Tel-Aviv to SharmAl Sheikh from your website. I ordered and paid for one additional baggage (23kg) for each tickets (trolly up to 8 kg is included in the basic ticket price). Today I received an email from the airline company saying that I did not order additional baggage. I tried to contact Travel2be by phone in several phone numbers without any response (although you write that you are available 24/7). Also I sent a few emails but no one reply to me. There's no way to contact customer service

No way to contact customer service regarding my booking. I paid flights with booking number 21664306, received an email saying there's an involuntary flight change (from the airline). Tried to manage my booking through My Trips to no avail. Called the airlines, they said I have to contact the travel agent directly; they can't amend anything since it's a booking through a third party. I also paid seat selections for flights that I booked, and the airlines indicated that I might lose those seats. I want to have a confirmation regarding my booking and I want to know if both my tickets and seats are secured. Please contact me asap!

Travel Sax 2 review Sax School Online

Is the Travel Sax 2 the best practice aid for sax players?

We’re going to take a look at the Travel Sax 2 from Odisei Music.

Could this be the smallest and lightest electronic wind instrument there is?

Hey, Fred here from Sax School . You know, I’ve been wanting to check out the Travel Sax for a while so that I can practice when I’m on the road with Average White Band .

Our members at Sax School are always asking about ways that they can do silent practice or an easier way to practice when they’re on their holidays.

So if you’re looking for a silent way to practice or , like me, need a way to keep up your saxophone skills while you’re out on the road touring or traveling for work or just on holidays, then stick around. I think you’ll find this interesting.

So in this review, we’re going to talk about:

  • What the Travel Sax 2 is and what it is not
  • Does it do the job for me, and will it work for you?
  • How to use the Travel Sax app

Other options

Now, just before we dig into all the features of the Travel Sax and my likes and dislikes, I just wanted to say that over the years , I’ve tried several different options , like the Akai Ewi and the Roland Aerophone . And while both of these are cool instruments for performance, practicing on them doesn’t translate into saxophone playing. That’s because those instruments have buttons, not keys, and the key layout is not quite the same as the conventional saxophone.

There are also a couple of instruments out there that do use the same key layout and feel like a saxophone. But they’re also about the size of an actual saxophone.  I’m already traveling with a tenor sax, a computer backpack, and a suitcase. So, because I don’t have three hands for another saxophone case, I was intrigued when I heard about the Travel Sax 2.

So in this review, we’re going to talk about what the Travel Sax 2 is, and what it is not. Does it do the job for me and will it work for you? Stick around and find out.

What is the Travel Sax 2? Review by Sax School Online

What is the Travel Sax 2?

This is the second version of the Travel Sax. The first iteration was a 3D-printed instrument, and it had no internal sounds. It just used your smartphone as the tone generator.

Then in 2022, after some feedback from users and pro players, Odisei released the latest version. The Travel Sax 2 is injection molded in ABS plastic.

And it has real moving keys with stainless steel springs, which are meant to give you the feel of pressing the keys on an actual saxophone.

The Travel Sax 2 saxophone practice aid. Review by sax School online

The Travel Sax has 70 internal sounds. It uses a USB type C output for mid-output, and for charging the battery.

It has an internal speaker, as well as a mini-jack output for headphones .

You can connect a phone or tablet via Bluetooth or mini-jack to play backing tracks for practice.

What’s in the case?

The Travel Sax 2 comes in a nice compact case that holds the instrument securely. It comes with an alto mouthpiece, ligature cap, and a cane reed, but you can use synthetic reeds as well.

There are three adapters , so you can use most soprano, alto, tenor, or bari mouthpieces. It also includes a USB cable for charging or for mini output, a small pouch to carry your accessories, and a cleaning cloth.

Optional Accessories

There are also some optional accessories available. There’s an extension and a small curved neck, which allows you to hold the instrument a little farther away for ergonomic reasons.

And there’s also an alternate mouthpiece, which they suggest works a little better for midi-output. I didn’t find that to be the case, but your mileage may vary.

Now each of these accessories is available separately for about $15 each.

The Instrument

Okay, so let’s check out the instrument.

Now the first thing you’ll notice is that it is very light , just 400 grams. That’s a little under a pound.

And as you can see, the fingering layout is the same as a saxophone, including rollers on the pinky keys.

Now, the space between the right and left hands has been compressed to allow you to have an instrument that is just over eight inches long.

Testing the Travel Sax 2 by Odisei. Sax School Online

Having your hands closer together like this feels a bit odd initially, but you get used to it pretty quickly. And due to the stainless steel springs, there’s a nice bounce back from the keys, much like a regular saxophone.

I have found a couple of instances that require me to be a bit more deliberate in my fingering when I’m playing fast. But this is not a deal breaker. I think that working on cleaning up those little things will actually help my technique on the actual saxophone.

Travel Sax 2 different key colour options. Sax School Online

Now let’s talk a little bit more about the keys . They’re available in seven different colors and are extremely easy to replace. So if you should decide that you would like a different color set of keys, you can order a different set.

Or if a key should break, you can order a replacement key. It comes with a little tool that you can just use to pop out the old key and pop in the new one. This is good to know if you live somewhere where there are no repair techs.

Now, as I mentioned before, there are no onboard controls other than a power button. You control everything from the Travel Sax app . Now you link to the app via Bluetooth by pressing these two side keys. And then you’re connected.

From the app , you can choose your sounds , configure the settings, transpose the pitch , set up custom fingerings for altissimo , and record videos of yourself playing the Travel Sax 2. There’s also a fingering chart ,  about a dozen tutorial videos , and a couple of key shortcut tips. And coming soon, there’ll be a feature that will allow you to keep a record of your practice sessions.

There is no learning curve with the Travel Sax 2. If you already play the sax, there are no new fingerings to learn. You’re ready to go.

And if you’ve never played the sax before, I think it would be a great way to get started, because you can dive right into learning the fingerings without having to form an embouchure. Then when you’re ready to graduate to a real saxophone, you’ve already got all the fingerings down.

How about the Sound?

The Travel Sax 2 has 70 internal sounds , which are samples of real instruments and synthesizer sounds. Listen to a quick demo of a few of those sounds.

So as you can hear, some sounds are better than others. But that’s the case with pretty much every other electronic wind instrument on the market.

Now, it’s unlikely that anyone is going to mistake the saxophone sounds for an actual saxophone. But in my opinion, that’s not the point. The Travel Sax 2 is marketed as a tool for people to practice saxophone wherever and whenever they want, and I think it does a great job.

How I use the Travel Sax 2

I gave it a trial run by bringing it with me on a recent vacation to South America. It took up minimal space in my luggage I was able to hang out by the pool and practice, and that’s a big selling point for me. For working out technical exercises, getting things under my fingers, practicing, and playing over chord changes,  It worked well for me.

These are the things I wanted the Travel Sax for, and these are the things that this smallest electronic saxophone does the best.

Of course, if you have the opportunity and the ability to practice an actual sax, obviously, you should do that.

Now, your embouchure will not benefit from practicing the Travel Sax 2 or any other electronic wind instruments on the market. You can’t work on your sound or your pitch.

So what I do often is, I find a time in my day when I can work on tone and intonation exercises on my saxophone when no one is home. And then I work on the other stuff with the Travel Sax the rest of the time, so I don’t disturb the neighbors or my family.

Software Integrations

In addition to using it as a tool for practice, you can also use it to input music into notation software like Sibelius or Finale . This is great if, like me, you’re a better saxophone player than a piano player. Now if you do want to use it in live performance and you want access to a larger library of sounds, you can plug it into your laptop. Then you can trigger any of the sounds available in GarageBand, Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton , or any other DAW, as well as any VST plugins like Respiro or SWAM .

And with an inexpensive adapter, you can also use any of the myriad of software synthesizers that are available for iOS or Android.

Personally, I haven’t used the Travel Sax 2 in live performance , although I’ve seen some videos of players using it in live situations.  Now, I don’t feel it quite has the expressive capabilities that many of the other EWIs do. It doesn’t read bite pressure, so there’s no pitch bend or vibrato other than what is programmed into the actual sounds.

But if you want to dig deep, you can achieve those effects with pedals or additional controllers.

But again, that is not its main purpose. It’s designed as an instrument to practice saxophone anywhere . And with its key action and layout, as well as its weight and size, The Travel Sax 2 ticks all the boxes for me.

I Walked 26+ Miles at Disney in These Comfy $20 Sneakers With Zero Pain or Blisters

One shopper said they were like walking on air.

Ali Faccenda / Amazon

There’s one place I’ve traveled more than anywhere else on the planet — Walt Disney World. I’ve been there well over a hundred times, and I even worked at the Magic Kingdom park in 2016, so if there’s anything I know about traveling like a pro at Disney, it’s that you must have a reliable handbag and comfortable sneakers.

My latest shoe obsession is the Avia Elevate Athletic Sneakers from Walmart, which cost only — drumroll, please — $20 (yes, you read that right). The sleek, all-white shoes were my go-to on my latest trip to Florida and required zero break-in period.

Avia Elevate Athletic Sneakers

If there’s one thing you can count on at Disney, there will be a ton of walking. I walked over 26 miles in the Avia sneakers without a single ounce of pain or blister (averaging a little over 12,000 steps a day)  — I was shocked, especially at the affordable $20 price point. They feature a classic lace-up front, memory foam sole, and supportive arch that kept me comfortable during long days at the parks. I also didn’t notice any excessive foot sweat, and mind you, it was a blistering 90 degrees multiple days.

Ali Faccenda

In the past, I’ve often worn sneakers that didn’t have enough support, sacrificing comfort for style (I love a cute park outfit after all), and left me with shin splints and sore feet. Thankfully, this sleek pair of sneakers was stylish and comfortable, and the all-white colorway matched every outfit I packed. Aesthetically, they held up well and stayed looking like new even by the end of my travels.

Other shoppers had similar sentiments about the reliable footwear , with one shopper saying they felt like walking on air. Another reviewer couldn’t get over the affordability, praising the sneakers for being comfortable and accommodating for anyone with a wide foot.

Grab your own pair of Avia Elevate Athletic Sneakers for just $20 at Walmart, and keep scrolling for other affordable, shopper-loved styles.

Opportunities for industry leaders as new travelers take to the skies

Travel fell sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic—airline revenues dropped by 60 percent in 2020, and air travel and tourism are not expected to return to 2019 levels before 2024. 1 “ Back to the future? Airline sector poised for change post-COVID-19 ,” McKinsey, April 2, 2021; “ What will it take to go from ‘travel shock’ to surge? ” McKinsey, November 23, 2021. While this downturn is worrisome, it is likely to be temporary. McKinsey’s latest survey of more than 5,500 air travelers around the world shows that the aviation industry faces an even bigger challenge: sustainability.

The survey results indicate emerging trends in passenger priorities:

About the survey

We asked about 5,500 people in 13 countries, half of them women, to answer 36 questions in July 2021. Each had taken one or more flights in the previous 12 months. More than 25 percent took at least half of their flights for business reasons; 5 percent had taken more than eight flights in the previous 24 months. They ranged in age from 18 to over 75 and hailed from the US and Canada, the UK, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Germany, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Japan, Australia, and Brazil.

Topics included concerns about climate change and carbon emissions, carbon reduction measures, and factors influencing tourism stays and activities.

We compared the results to those of a survey asking the same questions that we conducted in July 2019.

  • Most passengers understand that aviation has a significant impact on the environment. Emissions are now the top concern of respondents in 11 of the 13 countries polled, up from four in the 2019 survey. More than half of respondents said they’re “really worried” about climate change, and that aviation should become carbon neutral in the future.
  • Travelers continue to prioritize price and connections over sustainability in booking decisions, for now. This may be partly because no airline has built a business system or brand promise on sustainability. Also, some consumers may currently be less concerned about their own impact because they’re flying less frequently in the pandemic. That said, almost 40 percent of travelers globally are now willing to pay at least two percent more for carbon-neutral tickets, or about $20 for a $1,000 round-trip, and 36 percent plan to fly less to reduce their climate impact.
  • Attitudes and preferences vary widely among countries and customer segments. Around 60 percent of travelers in Spain are willing to pay more for carbon-neutral flights, for example, compared to nine percent in India and two percent in Japan.

This article outlines steps that airlines, airports, and their suppliers could take to respond to changing attitudes and preferences. The survey findings suggest that airlines may need to begin with gaining a deeper understanding of changes across heterogenous customer segments and geographies. With those insights in hand, they could tailor their communications, products, and services to differentiate their brands, build awareness among each passenger segment, and better connect with customers.

Would you like to learn more about our Travel, Logistics & Infrastructure Practice ?

The survey findings point to fundamental and ongoing changes in consumer behavior.

After a decade of steady growth in passenger traffic, air travel was hit hard by the pandemic. International air travel immediately fell by almost 100 percent, and overall bookings declined by more than 60 percent for 2020, according to Airports Council International. At the time of writing, revenue passenger miles have returned to close to pre-pandemic levels in the United States, but still lag behind in other markets. 2 “COVID-19: October 2021 traffic data,” International Air Transport Association (IATA), December 8, 2021. In its October 2021 report, before the Omicron variant emerged, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecast that the industry’s losses would be around $52 billion in 2021 and $12 billion in 2022. 3 “Economic performance of the airline industry,” IATA, October 4, 2021.

Furthermore, travelers’ preferences and behaviors have changed sharply during the pandemic, particularly around health and safety requirements. An Ipsos survey for the World Economic Forum found that, on average, three in four adults across 28 countries agreed that COVID-19 vaccine passports should be required of travelers to enter their country and that they would be effective in making travel and large events safe. 4 “Global public backs COVID-19 vaccine passports for international travel,” Ipsos, April 28, 2021. And a 2021 survey by Expedia Group found that people buying plane tickets now care more about health, safety, and flexibility than previously. But, there is also renewed interest in travel as nearly one in five travelers expected travel to be the thing they spent the most on in 2021, one in three had larger travel budgets for the year, and many were looking for new experiences such as once-in-a-lifetime trips. 5 “New research: How travelers are making decisions for the second half of 2021,” Skift, August 26, 2021.

Comparing McKinsey’s 2019 and 2021 survey results, sustainability remains a priority as respondents show similar levels of concern about climate change, continue to believe that aviation must become carbon neutral, and want their governments to step in to reduce airline emissions. Some changes were more striking. The share of respondents who say they plan to fly less to minimize their environmental impact rose five percentage points to 36 percent. In 2021 half of all respondents said they want to fly less after the pandemic. Changes in opinion varied across markets. Passengers in the UK, US, and Saudi Arabia, for example, were more likely to feel “flygskam,” (shame about flying) while those in Spain, Poland, and Australia felt significantly less guilty about flying.

It is worth tracking these trends in each market and demographic, because passengers’ experiences and opinions are increasingly relevant: passengers spend far more time online, increasingly trust each other’s recommendations more than traditional marketing, and can reshape brand perceptions faster than ever. 6 “ Understanding the ever-evolving, always-surprising consumer ,” McKinsey, August 31, 2021. In some markets consumers may reward airlines that meet rising demands for environmental sustainability—and punish those who fall behind.

The Australian airline Qantas may be acting on a similar belief. In November 2021, it announced a new “green tier” in its loyalty program. The initiative, based on feedback from passengers, is “designed to encourage, and recognize the airline’s 13 million frequent flyers for doing things like offsetting their flights, staying in eco-hotels, walking to work, and installing solar panels at home”. Qantas states that it is one of the largest private-sector buyers of Australian carbon credits, and it will use program funds to support more conservation and environmental projects. 7 “Qantas frequent flyers to be rewarded for being sustainable,” Qantas media release, November 26,, 2021. “A look at how people around the world view climate change,” Pew Research April 18, 2019. Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation climate change survey, July 9 to August 5, 2019.

Given these shifting trends, it may be helpful for all industry stakeholders to maintain a deep and up-to-date understanding of consumer segments in each market that they serve. Three main findings about today’s travelers emerged from the 2021 survey:

Finding 1: Most travelers now have concerns about climate change and carbon emissions—and many are prepared to act on these concerns

Concern about carbon emissions from aviation did not rise much during the pandemic, probably in part because air travel declined so sharply. About 56 percent of respondents said they were worried about climate change, and 54 percent said aviation should “definitely become carbon neutral” in the future.

While these numbers have increased only one or two percentage points since 2019, the share of respondents who rank CO 2 emissions as their top concern about aviation—ahead of concerns such as noise pollution and mass tourism—rose by nine percentage points to 34 percent. More than 30 percent of respondents have paid to offset their CO2 emissions from air travel.

Finding 2: Price and connections still matter much more than emissions to most travelers

Of the nine major factors travelers consider when booking a flight, carbon emissions consistently rank as sixth-most important across customer segments. This may be partly because most airline marketing centers around low cost or superior service, and pricing and revenue management are targeted at price and best connection. Most booking websites allow prospective travelers to sort by price and number of connections, for example, but not by carbon footprint. Google Flights has made a first step, showing average CO2 emissions per flight and improving transparency for travelers.

Travelers might begin to make different choices if emissions featured more prominently in the booking process—particularly if more airlines offered CO 2 reduction measures that delivered genuine environmental impact.

Finding 3: Attitudes vary widely by demographics and geography

Beliefs about the seriousness of climate change, and how to respond to it, vary across demographics and geographies (exhibit). Although younger people are generally more aware of the predicted consequences of climate change, older cohorts have become more concerned about climate change since the 2019 survey. In some countries, large majorities see climate change as a major threat, while that represents a minority view in other countries.

The survey shows that frequent travelers feel slightly more shame about flying than other respondents—37 percent compared to 30 percent—but show a much lower intention to reduce their air travel to minimize their climate impact, at 19 percent compared to 38 percent.

According to Pew Research, more than 80 percent of people in Greece, Spain, France, and South Korea believe climate change is a major threat, compared to around 40 percent of those in Russia, Nigeria, and Israel. 8 “A look at how people around the world view climate change,” Pew Research April 18, 2019. According to 2019 polling by the Washington Post and Kaiser Family Foundation, more than three-quarters of Americans believe it represents a major problem or a crisis—but fewer than half are willing to pay to help address it. 9 Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation climate change survey, July 9 to August 5, 2019.

These numbers may change quickly in the next few years as discussions about climate change become less abstract as oceans rise and storms, forest fires, and droughts become more severe. Instead of being one topic of concern among many, millions more people around the world may come to see climate change as today’s greatest challenge.

This shift seems to be apparent in government action, especially in mature economies. The US, for example, announced its intention to exit the Paris Agreement in June 2017 but pledged to rejoin in April 2021. 10 “Climate change: US formally withdraws from Paris agreement,” BBC, November 4, 2020; “President Biden sets 2030 greenhouse gas pollution reduction target,” White House fact sheet, April 22, 2021. And in September, the White House set a goal for the country to produce 3 billion gallons of sustainable aircraft fuel annually by 2030—up from about 4.5 million gallons produced in the US in 2020—which would cut carbon emissions from flying by 20 percent compared with taking no action. 11 “Biden administration advances the future of sustainable fuels in American aviation,” White House fact sheet, September 9, 2021.

Taking stock of the pandemic’s impact on global aviation

How the industry can be cleared for takeoff.

Travelers’ attitudes and behaviors appear to be in flux, and will likely continue to change. Depending on the world’s progress in preventing and treating COVID-19, the industry will likely take at least a couple of years to recover from the downdrafts caused by the pandemic.

In this unique moment in aviation history, airlines may be able to communicate in new ways to inspire passengers to join the fight against climate change. Based on McKinsey’s experience in aviation and other industries around the world, there may be an opportunity for carriers to make it “easy to do good”. When following such an approach, experience shows that customers are drawn to straightforward language, demonstrations of what the industry is doing in this area, and the tangible benefits of those efforts. The most compelling stories are positive and connect with customers’ emotional needs.

As in the early days of travel advertising, airlines could reinforce the idea that the journey is the destination—that “getting there is half the fun.” By inviting customers to get involved in creating a greener future and own the solution, they could forge new partnerships and deepen loyalty.

Actual progress will be essential; organizations that talk about sustainability without demonstrating action may quickly be held to account. Simply keeping pace with trends or regulatory requirements will offer no advantages. Airlines that move boldly, such as by replacing rather than modifying a loyalty program with some kind of “planet-positive” scheme, will stand out from competitors.

The survey results and McKinsey’s work in the industry lead us to believe that the market is ready for a forward-thinking airline to chart a route to a cleaner future for the industry. Leading airlines that build a business strategy and brand promise on sustainability will likely attract a growing share of business and leisure travelers, fresh capital and talent, and new allies across the industry, government, and society at large.

In the years ahead, more customers will be willing to pay for sustainability, particularly if airlines can engage them with interesting approaches, such as gamification in frequent flyer programs, opt-out rather than opt-in offsets, “green fast lanes” for check-ins and security control, and customized emission-reduction offers. Decarbonization could become the standard to reach and maintain next-tier levels in loyalty programs. Passengers will be able to join the global decarbonization team and transform flight shame into flight pride.

Like many private flyers, corporate customers will look for ways to mitigate their CO 2 footprint. Passenger and cargo airlines could craft attractive decarbonization programs to engage the rising numbers of corporates aiming to significantly reduce their scope 3 emissions from air transport.

No single set of approaches will be effective in every geography or with every passenger segment. But airlines with a deep understanding of their customers’ changing needs and desires will continue to outperform those that don’t. Such organizations could recruit more of their passengers to the decarbonization team while protecting their brands, the future of aviation, and the planet itself.

Blinken to travel to Saudi Arabia amid renewed push for a hostage deal

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Saudi Arabia this week for meetings with regional partners, including Palestinian, Egyptian and Qatari leaders, to discuss efforts for securing the release of Israeli hostages and a cease-fire in Gaza, the State Department said in a statement . After participating in meetings of the World Economic Forum and Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, he will continue on to Jordan and Israel later in the week.

The foreign ministers of Britain, Germany and France are also expected at the WEF meeting, alongside the Saudi foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud, WEF President Borge Brende said at a news conference . “There is some new momentum now in the talks around the hostages and also for a possible way out of the impasse that we are faced in Gaza,” he said.

Blinken traveled to the country in March to discuss a U.S. plan to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, but leaders in Riyadh have said any such deal would require a pathway to a Palestinian state — a scenario rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

On this visit, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, “pushing for this temporary cease-fire” would be “right at the top of the list for Secretary Blinken.” Kirby told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that Blinken will “also be talking to the Israelis about their intentions and their thinking on Rafah military operations and where they are in the planning stages for that.” U.S. officials have repeatedly voiced opposition to a major military operation in Rafah, in southern Gaza, which Israel says is home to Hamas ’s last intact battalions but is also a refuge for more than a million displaced civilians.

Egyptian officials, who visited Israel on Friday for talks on a proposed cease-fire deal, are optimistic about the prospects of a truce being reached, according to a former Egyptian official with knowledge of the talks who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive subject. The former official said Israeli cabinet members accepted “for the first time” the idea of a long-lasting halt to the fighting and expressed willingness to hold off on attacking Rafah if a deal can be reached. The proposal is now with Hamas, he said.

On Sunday, President Biden reaffirmed the United States’ “ironclad commitment to Israel’s security” in a call with Netanyahu. In a statement, Biden demanded that Hamas release its remaining hostages to “secure a ceasefire and relief for the people of Gaza.” The two leaders also discussed “increases in the delivery of humanitarian assistance into Gaza including through preparations to open new northern crossings starting this week.”

In Israel, concern is increasing about the possibility of arrest warrants being issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza, Israeli media reported.

Netanyahu appeared to address the reports Friday, writing on social media that “Israel will never accept any attempt by the ICC to undermine its inherent right of self-defense.” Israel and the United States do not accept the jurisdiction of the ICC, but member states would be obliged to carry out arrests of anyone in their jurisdiction who faced a warrant. On Sunday, Foreign Minister Israel Katz instructed all Israeli embassies worldwide “to prepare immediately for a wave of severe antisemitism,” should the ICC issue warrants for senior Israeli officials.

Here’s what else to know

Blinken’s visit comes amid a renewed push for a deal with Hamas , which released videos of three hostages last week, including two Israeli Americans. The latest video, released Saturday, shows U.S.-born Keith Siegel, 64, and Omri Miran, 47, who were taken hostage on Oct. 7. The footage has added to pressure on Israel to negotiate a deal for their release.

Aid group World Central Kitchen said Sunday it would resume its operations in Gaza, following the deaths of seven staff members this month by an Israeli military strike. The D.C.-based nonprofit led by celebrity chef José Andrés said in a statement that a Palestinian team would begin delivering food Monday, including in the north of the enclave, where the hunger crisis is most acute. The group said it had 276 trucks with the equivalent of almost 8 million meals ready to enter through the Rafah crossing and will also send trucks into Gaza from Jordan.

Pro-Palestinian protests unfolded outside the White House correspondents’ dinner on Saturday night , with demonstrators posing as slain Gazan journalists outside the Washington Hilton. They laid out press vests to honor media workers who have been killed in the enclave and unfurled a Palestinian flag out of a window at the venue.

France’s foreign minister arrived in Lebanon on Sunday, in a bid to “pursue the objective of peace and stability in the region,” Stéphane Séjourné tweeted . Séjourné praised the United Nations’ peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon as he inspected troops. Reuters has reported that France is trying to ease tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, which have escalated their tit-for-tat border attacks in recent weeks.

At least 34,454 people have been killed and 77,575 injured in Gaza since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants but says the majority of the dead are women and children. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, including more than 300 soldiers, and says 261 soldiers have been killed since the launch of its military operation in Gaza.

Claire Parker, Lior Soroka, Hannah Allam and Steve Hendrix contributed to this report.

The war: On Oct. 7, Hamas militants launched an unprecedented cross-border attack on Israel that included the taking of civilian hostages at a music festival . (See photos and videos of how the deadly assault unfolded ). Israel declared war on Hamas in response, launching a ground invasion that fueled the biggest displacement in the region since Israel’s creation in 1948 .

Gaza crisis: In the Gaza Strip, Israel has waged one of this century’s most destructive wars , killing tens of thousands and plunging at least half of the population into “ famine-like conditions. ” For months, Israel has resisted pressure from Western allies to allow more humanitarian aid into the enclave .

U.S. involvement: Despite tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and some U.S. politicians , including President Biden, the United States supports Israel with weapons , funds aid packages , and has vetoed or abstained from the United Nations’ cease-fire resolutions.

Nearly 200 people sick in norovirus outbreaks on Princess, Royal Caribbean ships

travel 2 2

Nearly 200 people got sick in norovirus outbreaks on Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean International ships.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 94 of the 2,532 guests on Sapphire Princess reported being ill during its April 5 cruise, along with 20 crew members. The round-trip cruise, which left from Los Angeles with stops in Hawaii and the South Pacific, will end on May 7, according to CruiseMapper .

On Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas, 67 of its 1,993 guests reported being ill in addition to two crew members during a cruise that ended April 22, according to the CDC . The two-week voyage sailed from Tampa, Florida to Los Angeles with stops in countries like Colombia and Panama, according to CruiseMapper .

In both outbreaks, the guests and crew members’ main symptoms were diarrhea and vomiting.

Princess, Royal Caribbean and the ships’ crews implemented heightened cleaning and disinfection measures and isolated those who were sick, among other steps, the health agency said.

"At the first sign of an increase in the numbers of passengers reporting to the medical center with gastrointestinal illness, we immediately initiated additional enhanced sanitation procedures to interrupt the person-to-person spread of this virus," a Princess spokesperson told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. "Our sanitation program, developed in coordination with the CDC, includes disinfection measures, isolation of ill passengers and communication to passengers about steps they can take to stay well while onboard."

Royal Caribbean did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The CDC has logged six outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on cruise ships that met its threshold for public notification since the beginning of the year. Norovirus was listed as the causative agent in five, while one was unknown.

The illness is often associated with cruise ships but outbreaks occur in communities on land as well, according to Dr. Sarah E. Hochman, a hospital epidemiologist and the section chief of infectious diseases at NYU Langone Health’s Tisch Hospital.

“There's not something special or unique about cruise ships,” she said. “It's really any type of congregate setting, but it's also happening out in the community on a much smaller scale among households and household contacts. It just doesn't come to the attention of public health as much as it does for larger congregate settings.”

Hochman said the virus is “incredibly infectious” and congregate settings tend to have many shared surfaces, such as handrails in cruise ship stairwells or elevators. “And so, if you just have one person who's shedding the virus and touches the surface and then someone else touches it and then touches their mouth, that's how it can spread in those types of settings.”

Cruise ship medical facilities: What happens if you get sick or injured (or bitten by a monkey)

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer isn't as effective against norovirus, and Hochman emphasized that washing hands with soap and water “will do a lot to prevent the spread.”

The news comes after more than two dozen Silversea Cruises guests got sick in a gastrointestinal illness outbreak on the luxury line’s Silver Nova ship during a sailing that began in late March.
