Best Times to Visit

If you’re not visiting during the regular season, you probably won’t have any issues with taking a tour of Yankee Stadium.

The Classic Tour runs from 11 am - 2 pm during the offseason and on days when there is no home game.

Tours run once every 20 minutes for a total of 10 hours per day. These tours can sell out quickly, so you may want to consider purchasing your tickets ahead of time.

NYC Travel Tips & Hacks Facebook Group

However, if you plan to come on a game day , tour hours will change depending on when the game starts.

Most day games at Yankee Stadium start at 1:05 pm or 4:05 pm and night games will start at about 7:05 pm .

The gates will officially open about 2 hours before the game starts on most game days.

Pre-game tours often start before the gates officially open, giving you an opportunity to see the ballpark before anyone else.

For more details, check our Yankee Stadium tours section .

What to Expect

If you decide to take a classic tour of Yankee Stadium, there’s no way of knowing exactly which route you will take.

The only thing you can be assured of is that your tour guide will take you to locations such as the New York Yankees Museum, Monument Park, the Press Box, and the Dugout.

Tourists are welcome to take photos as they are shown around the stadium.

How long is the Yankee Stadium Tour?

Each tour will take you about an hour to complete.

Visitors who are coming only for the tour can reasonably expect to be done with their trip within 60-90 minutes .

However, if you’re planning on seeing a game afterward, you should set aside another 2-3 hours.

With recent changes to the rules of MLB baseball, chances are it will be closer to 2 hours.

What time does Yankee Stadium open on game days?

On game days, Yankee Stadium will open to all ticket holders 90 minutes before the game begins.

If you want to get in as early as possible, make sure to consider a pregame tour!

What is the best way to tour Yankee Stadium?

There are both guided and self-guided tours, and both have their positives and negatives.

The answer to this question will depend on what kind of experience you want to have.

Where does the Yankee Stadium Tour start?

All tours begin at Gate 6 of Yankee Stadium, E 161st St and River Ave, Bronx, NY.

How do you get the Yankee Stadium Tour with the New York Pass?

If you have either the New York Pass or the Explorer Pass , you'll have access to the Yankee Stadium Tour at no additional cost.

At the moment, you can just present your pass at the gate and you'll be granted admission as long as there is space.

Are there any special Yankee Stadium Events?

Yes, during the offseason and extended periods of away games, Yankee Stadium concerts are actually quite common.

These are usually pretty big concerts with very well-known performers.

TOURS OF YANKEE STADIUM

There are three different types of tours that you can take at Yankee Stadium. Each tour provides a different service and focus.

Depending on the availability of certain areas in the ballpark, your tour guide may choose to take a different route from one day to the next.

Classic Individual Tour

This is the perfect option for a casual fan. The classic tour is affordable and shows you quite a bit of Yankee Stadium.

During baseball season, you will get to see the following locations:

  • New York Yankees Museum – which displays Yankee memorabilia ( watch this tour preview )
  • Monument Park – an open-air museum containing retired numbers of past greats, plaques, memorials

You will also get to see other sites depending on availability.

In the off-season, you will see all of the above with the possibility of visiting areas such as the press box, the dugouts, the warning track (the edge of the outfield), and the Legends Suite (the seats closest to the field) as well.

It is highly recommended that you book these tickets in advance.

Ticket Prices

  • $38 per person (when booked in advance, taxes not included)
  • Kids 4 and under are free.
  • Buy tickets online here .

TIP: Free for New York Pass and Explorer Pass holders. To learn more, click here .

There are also combo tickets which include lunch from Hard Rock Cafe for just $10-$15 more.

They currently offer 3 menus with food items as varied as cheeseburgers and fries, pulled pork sandwiches, Caesar salad, honey mustard grilled chicken, and more.

They even have a kids' menu with hot dogs, mac and cheese, and other family-friendly dishes.

  • 10 am - 2 pm (every 20 minutes)
  • A bilingual tour (Spanish) is at 1 pm
  • This tour is not available when there is a day game.

Pregame Tour

If you already have tickets or plan to attend a game, but want a more immersive experience, this is a great option.

This tour visits Monument Park and the New York Yankees Museum before they open to the public.

It will also usually end in right field to watch batting practice and warm-ups before the game.

Please note that this tour does not include a ticket to the game.

  • Ticket Prices: $60.90 per person
  • Tour Hours: 3-4 hours before game time
  • Click here to purchase .

TIP 1: Viator occasionally offers a VIP Stadium Tour which includes lunch with a New York Yankee legend.

TIP 2: Pregame tours taking place before 1:05 pm games provide early access to the ballpark.

Pregame 'Glimpse of Greatness' Stadium Tour

In addition to the standard Pregame Stadium Tour offered at Yankee Stadium, there is also a self-guided option that might be preferable to some guests.

This tour is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to get early access to the stadium.

As with the standard Pregame Tour, you'll also have access to notable locations such as Monument Park, The Great Hall, Judge's Chambers, and Section 105 where you can see batting practice.

This tour does not include a ticket to the game, and you will need tickets to take a pregame tour.

  • Ticket Price: $35 per person (taxes not included)

TIP: These tours can start as early as 9 am on some game days.

Hands on History

When it comes to both the classic tour and the pregame tours, reviewers tend to take issue with the fact that their guides don’t often spend a lot of time in the Yankees Museum.

If you want to ensure that you’ll be able to see more in the museum, this Hands on History experience will be a must.

Guests who go on this tour will have the opportunity to actually touch and hold several famous New York Yankees artifacts.

Here are just a few of the items you may be allowed to hold during this trip:

  • Babe Ruth bat from 1922-1923
  • Mickey Mantle's game-worn jersey from 1963
  • Babe Ruth's 1927 World Series ring
  • Derek Jeter jersey from his 3,000th hit game
  • Home plate from the final game at Old Yankee Stadium and the first game at the present stadium

Needless to say, this is a pretty unique experience that die-hard Yankees fans should definitely consider.

However, there are only a few Hands-On History tours offered every month, so it will be important to plan any trip to NYC around this if you plan on attending.

Ticket Prices: $133.50 per person

Hands on History Tour Dates:

  • May 28th at 10:15 am
  • June 10th at 4:15 pm
  • June 25th at 10:15 pm
  • July 8th at 9:45 pm
  • July 22nd at 9:45 pm

Whether or not you are interested in a tour, there are a few places in and around Yankee Stadium that you should see.

Some of these locations are only included on tours, but others are available during games as well.

Check our Yankee Stadium Visitor's Guide for more details.

Babe Ruth Plaza

Before you head into the stadium, head to 161st Street to see this beautiful location. In the plaza, you will find murals depicting the story of the Great Bambino.

Monument Park

Tourists typically get to see this location before everyone else, but it’s also free for ticket holders to visit after the gates open on game days.

Monument park Yankee Stadium

Monument Park provides a lot of historical details and monuments to past Yankees legends.

If you want to see this area on game day, make sure to get there when the gates open, because they close Monument Park 45 minutes before the game begins.

Yankees Museum

Visitors who are interested in seeing some of the most historic Yankees artifacts and learning more about the team should definitely check out this museum in Yankee Stadium.

New York Yankees Museum

If you want to see both the Yankees Museum and Monument Park on game day, plan to spend at least 20-30 minutes in each area, and arrive when the gates open.

Check our best times to visit the section for more information.

During some Classic Stadium Tours, you will have the opportunity to visit the location where color commentators and reporters watch the game and record its events either for live television or for other media outlets.

Press Box Yankees Stadium

Depending on when you take the Classic Stadium Tour, you may have the opportunity to visit the dugout where Yankees players will sit during a game.

Dugouts

This is a great chance to discover a location that few will ever get to see up close.

Warning Track

Some tour guides may choose to take you to the edge of the outfield.

This is where the outfield grass ends and outfielders have only moments to stop before hitting the wall.

Legends Suite

These are the seats closest to the field, and they are typically reserved for special guests.

As a result, few people ever have the chance to see this area of the park.

If you're lucky, you might get to visit the Legends Suite on your tour!

Most of the comments about the Yankee Stadium tour are very positive. Even if you're not a fan, chances are the history of this ballpark and the Yankees will be enough to make it interesting.

If you're trying to figure out where to eat before or after the tour, and you want something quick, some recommend just grabbing some hot dogs from a street vendor.

To be honest, it's not a bad idea, especially if you're not interested in the Hard Rock Cafe.

A Rookie’s Guide to Yankee Stadium

yankee stadium tour reddit

Yankee Stadium is not rated highly by other baseball fans, but it is one of my absolute favourites! On 13 August 2012, the night before I got married in Central Park, I fell head-over-heels in love … with baseball. It was my first game and I have been hooked ever since. I am a Yankees fan, so there is some bias, but I’m hoping to persuade you it is well worth a visit. I aim to tell you the best features on the inside and outside of the stadium, plus the best places to get beer and food, so you can make the most of your trip to the ballpark.

Yes, it’s not the old stadium and some days lacks atmosphere, but when Yankee Stadium is rocking, it ranks up there with any ballpark I have been to for noise level and passion for the team. The fact that it is modern is a positive—expect plenty of legroom, facilities galore and new party deck options and features are added every year.

How to get there

To get to Yankee Stadium, you travel to the Bronx, on the subway, about a half-hour journey from the centre of Manhattan.

As a visiting fan, you are likely to be taking the train to the stadium and there are several options. From Grand Central-42nd St Station take the 4 train to 161 St-Yankee Stadium. From 42nd St Bryant Park take the B or D Train and get off at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

Travelling on the subway in New York is always an experience. Every time you travel, there is some sort of entertainment, planned or not. This could be a string quartet, a preacher on a soapbox, panhandlers with a story or dancers who use the metal poles in the carriages to pull off astonishing moves or poses. A trip on the subway is never dull!

Around the ballpark

There are some famous pieces of street art along River Avenue that you shouldn’t miss, including works featuring Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.

yankee stadium tour reddit

Yankee Stadium feels like you have stepped back in time, even though the stadium was opened in 20 09 . The exterior is made of granite and limestone in a nod to the original stadium. Around the top of the stadium is a white metal frieze, which replicates a feature from the previous ballpark’s design and adds to the older feel.

Player legends such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Mariano Rivera and Don Mattingly are pictured outside the stadiu m, so it’s worth a walk around, and you will also get a feel for where all the entry and exit gates are. My top tip is not to go in Gate 6, but walk down to Gate 8, where the queues are smaller— handy when it is Bobblehead Day! To get to this gate, you also have to walk past the players’ parking lot, so you might also get a glimpse of your favourite player’s ride!

Another tip before you go in is to pick up some cold bottles of water outside from the local vendors. You can take in unopened bottles and they are a lot cheaper than inside the ballpark!

Best bars to visit before you go inside

Stan’s Sports Bar – 836 River Avenue, Bronx

Stan’s is located along River Avenue, a stone’s throw from the stadium and is always an experience before a game! You’ll find die-hard Yankee fans to chat to in here and it is always packed to the rafters.  It is famous for featuring in a Gatorade advert that Derek Jeter made just before he retired, where he walks part of the way to the stadium and goes in the bar.  Ask inside and they’ll introduce you to the guy in the advert! It’s great for catching up with other games, as it’s got 12 TV screens around the bar. Grab a local Bronx Brewery beer, look at all the Yankees memorabilia on the walls and people watch!

Billy’s Sports Bar – 856 River Avenue, Bronx

Just down the street from Stan’s, Billy’s Sports Bar is always super busy before a game. This place is huge with seating on two levels and has a giant TV screen behind the bar. Even though it is busy, the loud crowd is always served food and drinks quickly. Billy’s also has an outside patio for summer evenings.  There’s a decent range of beer, including Founder’s All Day IPA and Brooklyn Lager.

When you get inside

Yankee Stadium has the best memorabilia collection of any ballpark, period! There are two places you must visit. Monument Park is open from when the gates open until 45 minutes before the first pitch. Head here first when you get in, as they close it off when they decide enough people are in the long queue. This is where you will find all the plaques of the retired Yankees, and the wall of faces reads like a who’s-who of baseball.

yankee stadium tour reddit

There is also an excellent museum, also chock-full of incredible memorabilia. You can see Thurman Munson’s locker, Babe Ruth’s bat, the World Series trophies and a wonderful statue of Yogi Berra. It also has a fantastic collection of signed baseballs, featuring almost every player who has played for the Yankees, plus managers and media people associated with the club. This place is open before and during the game, so you can nip in and out whenever you like.  Every baseball club would love a collection like this.

yankee stadium tour reddit

You will also find team stores dotted all around the park.  There is a huge one located next to the Hard Rock Cafe, but there are others located inside at field level and at kiosks on other levels.

Where to sit

This really comes down to how much are you willing to pay. You can get seats priced from $10 to $6000, depending on the level of luxury you want. My advice would be to wait until as near to the game as you dare and have a look on StubHub. Do some research on the face-value costs of tickets in different areas and you might find a deal.

The bleachers are a fantastic place to sit if you’re a Yankees fan. You can pick up tickets from around $20 and you get a gorgeous view of the stadium. It’s in the sun on sunny days and you will find lots of friendly fans to talk to. The stick dished out to the opposition outfielders can be brutal! You also get to join in with ‘roll call’, a tradition which takes place at the beginning of every game. Yankee fans call out each player on the field until he waves or makes a gesture back. It’s great fun. Be sure to remove your cap for the national anthem in this section, they’re a patriotic lot and you will definitely get called out if you don’t. The infamous ‘bleacher creatures ‘ sit in section 203 and provide a noisy backdrop to the game. Warning to families: the language in here gets a bit…industrial!

yankee stadium tour reddit

Field-level tickets at the Yankees are not cheap. Expect to pay around $75 and up to sit here, even in the outfield. You get what you pay for though. Some seats even have in-seat service and there is not a bad seat in the house. You also get access to the whole of the field-level concessions and some of the exclusive bars.

Legends Seating is the most exclusive seating in all of baseball. Prices start at $600 a pop and you will get access to the Legends Suite where celebrities hang out, plus you get all-inclusive food and drink options and a variety of clubs and restaurants to choose from. Seats here are ultra-padded and come with in-seat service. This is the nearest you can get to the players anywhere in the ballpark. Suffice to say, I have never sat here!

Upper-deck prices get gradually cheaper until you get to the top-deck nosebleed seats priced as low as $10. They usually sit school groups up here and the views are still great, if a little high! On the 300 level for families, there is a Kids’ Clubhouse which has been re-developed for 2020. There will be lots to keep children entertained, including a new climbing area with over-sized baseballs and baseball cards.

What to eat

Food options at Yankee Stadium are, like everything else, not cheap! All concession stands at Yankee Stadium have the usual baseball fare—hotdogs, chicken tenders, peanuts, fries, Cracker Jacks, popcorn. However, there are also some great unusual foods and Yankee Stadium has improved its range in the last few years.

The garlic fries are AMAZING! You get a large portion and they are very garlicky. Not the food to eat on a first date! You’ll find them in sections 108, 205 and 331.

Lobel’s is one of the most famous stands. Their steak sandwich is considered one of the very best items you can get in the ballpark and can be found in 133 and 321.

Nathan’s Famous are a Coney Island institution, but you can also eat them inside the ballpark.  Their hotdogs are delicious and come with crinkle-cut fries. The lines here are always long for a reason! Find them in sections 127, 225 and 313.

Mighty Quinn’s and Bareburger are newer options at the park that I’ve not tried, but got rave reviews from bloggers Bronx Pinstripes .

P.S. If you visit New York City over the Christmas period, the Pinstripe Bowl, a college football game, is played at Yankee Stadium on or around 27 December every year. I’ve been to two of these: Pitt vs Northwestern and Miami (FL) vs Wisconsin. If you have never seen college football, this is a cool experience, but wrap up warm!

yankee stadium tour reddit

Hope I’ve persuaded you, if you haven’t been to the Yankees yet on your baseball travels, that a) you really should and b) it’s not bad like stadium review sites say. Enjoy your trip!

Wow. Another gem. You are rapidly becoming my favorite baseball writer(and I’ve been around a looong time!). Even though I’m a third generation “Yankee hater,” I thoroughly enjoyed this article. Though a”hater,” I certainly respect theYankee history & tradition(much like football fans over there would Manchester United). I visited the previous Yankee stadium about 20 yrs ago, and could feel the history, but your article truly brought it to life. Also, your mention of the Pinstripe Bowl football game was a nice touch. Well done!

Excellent article. I was a baseball virgin until I snapped up a handful of $10 tickets and dragged the family to Yankee Stadium just for something to do while on holiday. I’ve been addicted to the game ever since. As someone who’s been to a lot of football stadiums in England and abroad I think Yankee Stadium ranks right up there in terms of atmosphere, location, facilities and value. It’s very friendly and welcoming for families and accessible. But the food did cost nearly as much as the return flights!

Boston Red Sox v New York Yankees

Every year, thousands upon thousands of Yankees fans flock to the corner of 161st Street and River Avenue. Yankee Stadium is the closest thing to holy ground for fans of the Bronx Bombers — indeed, one of its many nicknames has been “The Cathedral of Baseball,” and Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, has described his own St. Patrick’s Cathedral as “the Yankee Stadium of churches.” For many fans, particularly those who live far from New York City, a visit to the Stadium is a pilgrimage of sorts.

No matter how often you go to games, a trip to Yankee Stadium can be a daunting task. And that’s why we here at Pinstripe Alley have decided to put together a guide for attending Yankees games in the Bronx. What is the best way to get to the ballpark? Where can I find the best bang for my buck when I’m hungry? How do I get to Monument Park? Whether you’re heading to Opening Day this very week or are planning a future visit, we have the answers to all these questions — and then some — below.

Getting to the Stadium

The most important part of attending a game at Yankee Stadium is, of course, actually getting to Yankee Stadium. Realistically, you have three options: the subway, the Metro-North, and your car.

Yankee Stadium on the first night of overnight vaccines.

If you want the classic New York experience when you’re going to Yankee Stadium, take the subway; fans have been taking the train to the game for more than a century now, as the 161st Street Station, which services the 4, B, and D trains, opened on June 2, 1917. Fortunately, the subway isn’t just classic — it’s also extremely convenient for fans everywhere in the tri-state area. Because the 4 train stops at Grand Central Station in Manhattan, any fan with access to the subway, Metro-North, and Long Island Railroad has a fairly straightforward route to the Stadium via public transit.

As a heads-up: For the time being, you can still use a MetroCard to pay the $2.75 fare, but the MTA has announced that MetroCards will be phased out by the end of 2023 in favor of the new OMNY card system . At time of writing, exactly when this will happen has not yet been announced.

Fans in Westchester County and Connecticut can opt to take the Metro-North directly to the game. The Yankees-E 153rd Street station connects directly to the Hudson Line, and during weeknight and weekend games, the MTA runs special trains on the Harlem and New Haven lines that go to Yankee Stadium. Fares vary in price depending on distance and time of day. Use this trip planner to see the schedule and calculate the fare.

Last but not least, you can drive to the Stadium. Please note that, in addition to being more expensive — it costs $25-35 to park at one of the many lots near the Stadium — it can be time-consuming to leave the ballpark. Depending on the flow of traffic at the end of the game, the NYPD may direct you to get directly on the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) in a particular direction, forcing you to find an exit that will allow you to get back on in the way you need to go. That said, driving to the Stadium does give you more flexibility, particularly if you need to leave the game early.

Entering the Stadium

There are four entrances to Yankee Stadium — Gate 2 (left field), Gate 4 (home plate), Gate 6 (right field, leads into the Great Hall), and Gate 8 (center field, by the bleachers). Truthfully, I have found no gate to be quicker than the others at any reliable rate, so enter the Stadium wherever you wish. Gates typically open about two hours before scheduled first pitch.

Toronto Blue Jays v New York Yankees

What’s more important than knowing where to enter is knowing how to enter. Familiarize yourself with the list of prohibited items , and DO NOT BRING THEM TO THE STADIUM , as there is no checked baggage. You will be denied entry unless you throw them away, and while it’s no big deal to throw away an open water bottle, I highly doubt anyone wants to part with their laptop. Please note that the ban on masks refers to costume masks; medical masks that are used to limit the spread of contagious diseases are permitted at the Stadium.

In addition, you will go through a metal detector before even being asked to show your ticket. While the exact steps involved have occasionally changed, there will be a sign that will tell you what needs to be taken out of your pockets (usually some combination of your phone, wallet, and keys) before walking through the detector. If you have a bag with you, it will be searched; make things easier for yourself and those behind you by packing it in such a way that the guard can look through it without emptying it.

Yankee Stadium uses mobile tickets now, available either through the MLB Ballpark or StubHub app. While you are waiting on line to go through the metal detector, bring your ticket up on your phone so that you can enter the Stadium as quickly and efficiently as possible.

What to Do Before the Game

Now you’re inside the ballpark. Depending on how early you show up, you may have some time before the game begins. Unlike in the old Stadium, it’s unlikely that you will be able to see the Yankees’ batting practice. Many players do their work in underground cages, and even those who prefer to hit on the field may be finished before the gates open.

That said, you should be able to catch the visitors’ batting practice if you’d like, and you can often find some Yankees having a catch, stretching, and signing autographs in right field down the line. If you do not have tickets in the lowest level, the outfield corners during batting practice is your only opportunity to get close to the field.

Monument Park, open-air museum, Yankee Stadium.

If it’s your first time at Yankee Stadium, I highly recommend you visit Monument Park, located in center field. The line to enter the Park can be found on the first level, starting at the entrance in the tunnel behind the Mohegan Sun bar and wrapping around to the ramp in right field. Please note that, while the Park closes 45 minutes before scheduled first pitch, the line sometimes closes earlier. If going to Monument Park is something you want to do, I recommend you go there as soon as you enter the Stadium.

Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York, USA.

While not as well-known as Monument Park, the Yankee Stadium Museum is also a fun experience, particularly for history aficionados. As part of the permanent display, fans can see the Yankees’ 26 World Series rings and the pocket watch distributed to the 1923 squad, seven Commissioner’s Trophies, Thurman Munson’s locker, and 870 autographed baseballs representing 55 percent of the players, managers, coaches, and broadcasters that have donned the pinstripes over the decades (the wall gets updated once annually).

The Museum also has a pair of exhibits that change depending on what’s going on with the Yankees. At time of writing, that included a display featuring Yankees franchise records, an exhibit about historic home runs hit by members of the Yankees, and a display honoring Mariano Rivera’s, Mike Mussina’s, and Derek Jeter’s inductions into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Dining Options at the Stadium

Last week, I polled my friends, asking them what their go-to food when they visit Yankee Stadium is. All but one replied with “the chicken bucket!” Whether that’s a commentary on the price of food at Yankee Stadium or the taste buds of my friends, I will let you decide.

Still, the value of the chicken bucket cannot be overstated. For $20, you get a huge bucket of chicken — depending on the stand, it might be chicken tenders, it might be chicken sliders — and fries. It’s a good amount of food, plus you get a bucket that you can take home with you, too:

yankee stadium tour reddit

On top of that, if you pay with a MasterCard, you get a free half-liter of Pepsi. (This is not an ad; just a tip.) Like I said, dollar for dollar, it’s the best value at the Stadium. Please note, however, that it is not available at every stand — there’s usually about one stand per level that has it, so you might need to go find it.

Outside of the chicken bucket, there’s plenty of other options. My one friend who did not vote for the chicken bucket said that they usually get a “hot dog and lemonade from the closest stand,” and honestly, you can’t go wrong with that. In truth, there’s very few food options within the Stadium that I would consider to be “bad” — the buffalo wings have always had a good kick to them, the burgers and hot dogs have been consistently well-prepared, the sandwiches have been flavorful. The question has always been whether they’ve been worth the price, and to an extent, that’s become a bit of a philosophical question: Are you attending a baseball game and having some food while you’re there, or are you going out to dinner at the game?

For those who fall in the first category, your best value lies in the chicken bucket or in the Chickie’s and Pete’s crabfries (as anyone who has spent time in Philadelphia or gone to games at Citizens Bank Park can attest, these fries are delicious, and I strongly recommend them). If you’re approaching your visit to the Stadium as dinner and a show, your options open up quite a bit. If you’re lucky enough to be one of the first 99 to order the new Aaron Judge-themed 99 Burger , you’ll be presented with a high-quality burger made with Wagyu beef, carmelized onions, aged cheddar, and a signature sauce. In section 223, you can find a new Mac Truck with three types of mac and cheese; all three received rave reviews from Chris Kirschner of The Athletic , although I must warn, like most dining options at Yankee Stadium, the portion sizes do seem small. Elsewhere in the Stadium, you can find sushi, slow-roasted rotisserie chicken, and falafel. If it can be found in New York, you can probably find it at the Stadium, albeit at a markup.

Whether or not you should have dessert at the game depends entirely on how fancy you like your desserts. If you like your milkshakes and ice cream with extra toppings like M&Ms, cereal, and cookie crumbles, then you’ll absolutely love the options at Yankee Stadium. If you’re like me, and prefer a plain chocolate milkshake or ice cream with hot fudge, then I’d advise against it solely based on the price. Whether or not you get all the trappings, you’re paying for all the trappings; a plain chocolate milkshake costs the same as the Unicorn Shake that contains fruity cereal, whipped cream, and marshmallows.

New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles

If you’re looking to spend a little less for food or want a more authentic Bronx experience, there’s a number of dining options on the streets around the Stadium. For a more local vibe, there’s the 99-cent pizzeria that sells slices for $1.25 and a local deli just a block away from the 4 train.

If you’re looking for a Yankees-themed drinking or dining experience, there’s the Yankees Tavern, Stan’s Sports Bar, Billy’s Sports Bar, and the Drafthouse. Alternatively, take a trip on over to Arthur Ave and visit one of the many Italian restaurants and pizzerias that Paul O’Neill has talked about during YES Network broadcasts over the years — it’s just 20 minutes away. Full Moon Pizza, on the corner of 187th and Arthur Ave, is owned by Yankees fans.

Leaving the Stadium

As Frank Sinatra belts “New York, New York”, you’re going to want to start planning your exit from the Stadium. Unless you need to leave ASAP, wait a few minutes for the initial rush to die down. If you can, avoid the elevators and take the stairs instead, as the crowds around the elevators will make them take much longer.

Most likely, you will be leaving via the Great Hall. If you’re taking the train home, you’re in luck — that deposits you right by the subway station and in the direction of the Metro-North stop. If you drove to the Stadium, however, or are getting an Uber or Lyft home, you may need to walk around the perimeter to get where you need to go.

Must-See Baseball Sites in NYC

If you’re a resident of New York or visiting the area for a couple of days, Yankee Stadium is not the only place to experience baseball — and I’m not talking about Citi Field, either. Head on down to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where an exhibition on baseball cards will be on display until July 18th (if you miss it, continue checking the Met’s website; since the Museum owns the cards, they are part of the Met’s rotation of exhibits). If you’re driving in and passing through New Jersey, stop at the Yogi Berra Museum just outside Montclair along the way.

Back in the City, take a visit to the Great Lawn in Central Park, where if you’re lucky, you might just catch CC Sabathia playing rec league softball. Or, if you’d like to chase some history, search the grounds of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for the plaque commemorating Hilltop Park , the original home of the New York Highlanders. The plaque is located approximately where the stadium’s home plate was when it opened in 1903.

Ballpark Game Plan: New York Yankees & Yankee Stadium

Heather

Field: Yankee Stadium

Official Site: https://www.mlb.com/yankees/ballpark

Year Completed: 2009

Capacity: 52,000

Covered: No – Postponement/Rainout Policy

Mascot: None

The Game We’ll See: Sunday, August 6: Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees ( see all 30 here! )

Parking & Transportation:

Yankee Stadium does not manage its own parking. It is managed by City Parking . While there are parking lots in the area, fans in the Facebook Ballpark Chasers group report that the cost is high. The general recommendation from just about every sources is to park outside the city and take public transportation.

Oversized vehicle: There is no designated parking for RVs or oversized vehicles.

Public Transportation: Most reviewers agreed that the best way to reach Yankee Stadium is the subway. The No. 4 Train, the D Train, and, on weekdays, the B Train all serve the stadium. Several bus lines also serve the stadium. You can find a list of those lines and other transportation options here .

Stadium Tours :

Fans on Facebook’s Ballpark Chasers group report that the stadium tour is well worth the price. In addition to giving you early entrance to Monument Park, the tour gives you a peek at batting practice.

There are several tours on any given day. Game day tours are offered beginning about 3 hours before the first pitch. Tickets are about $105 each, and must be reserved in advance. The tour visits the Yankees Museum, Monument Park, and Section 105 to watch batting practice. Fans can also purchase a self-guided tour called the “Glimpse of Greatness” which includes Judge’s Chambers. These tickets are about $82 but are not available until closer to the game date.

General Information:

Bags: Yankee Stadium allows fans to bring a soft-sided bag that is no larger than 16” x 16” x 8”, plus a smaller clutch, purse, or grocery bag. However, no hard-sided bags are permitted. There is no storage available.

Food & Beverages: Fans may bring in their own food and water. Water must be in a factory-sealed, clear, plastic bottle no larger than 1 liter in size. Food that could reasonably be thrown, such as apples or oranges, must be sectioned.

Cashless transactions: All transactions are cashless.

Signs: Signs are permitted as long as they are baseball-related, don’t block views, interfere with the game, contain advertising, or contain offensive materials. Also, they may not be made of or with wood or metal.

Foul Balls: Fans may keep foul balls, as long as they don’t interfere with play or enter the playing area to retrieve them.

Cameras: Cameras are permitted, but selfie sticks, monopods, tripods, video cameras, and other equipment for the sole purpose of video and/or audio recording are not.

Umbrellas: Small umbrellas are allowed, as long as they do not impede another fan’s view of the game.

Gates: Gates open 90 minutes prior to the start of the game.

Where to Sit:

Bleacher seats at Yankee Stadium are the best value, as the seats are good and the fans engaged. It will be hot on a sunny day, but more pleasant in the evening. Sections 226 – 227 B on the third base side, and 213 – 214B on the first base side were highly recommended by the Practical Travel Guide.

If you are a dedicated Yankees fan and want to participate in Roll Call (shouting out the players’ nicknames), head for Section 203.

For shade, try the back rows of the 100 level (Sections 107 – 116).

Baseball Road Trips suggests that for better seats and a higher price, look for seats in the main sections, preferably between Sections 223 and 232B. For shade, look between Sections 208 and 217.

  • The trademark food at Yankee Stadium is Lobel’s Steak Sandwich. (Section 133 and 132)
  • The 99 Burger is an Aaron Judge-inspired Wagyu beef burger. The creation, introduced this year, includes two 4-ounce patties with cheese, pickles, special sauce, and a brioche bun. The catch is that only 99 burgers will be sold at each game. To get one, you’ll need to move fast! They are only sold in Section 223, near Gate 4.
  • The traditional hot dog choice is a Nathan’s hot dog.
  • While my focus for this post is really the food inside the stadium, one of the fans on the Ballpark Chasers group page insisted that John’s Pizza on 46 th St. in midtown Manhattan is the best. He is a high school teacher that has chaperoned almost a dozen trips to NYC, and he claims that the experience at this pizzeria is memorable and incredible. In fact, he was so confident in his recommendation that he offered a refund to the poster if she didn’t love it! Given the passion behind his review, I decided to include it.

First Time Visitors:

Visit Guest Relations near Section 128 to get a First Game Certificate. You can also go to Guest Relations in the Great Hall for a digital version that you can print when you get home.

Autographs:

While there is no written policy, Baseball Road Trips suggests that you may get lucky if you get to the stadium early!

Other Stadium Tips & Highlights:

Monument Park, in center field, celebrates Yankee legends as is open until 45 minutes before the first pitch.

The New York Yankees Museum is located adjacent to Section 210 on the Main level. It is open beginning 90 minutes before the first pitch through the eighth inning and is free to ticketed fans.

The Yankees are a partner in the designated driver program sponsored by Budweiser. If you’re the designated driver in your group, stop by Guest Services to sign up. They don’t advertise what their incentive is, just that they have one.

Before or after the game, cross the street to visit Elson Gene Howard Field and walk around the space on which the original Yankee Stadium once stood. The location is identified with a commemorative home plate.

According to one Ballpark Chasers Facebook group member, you can see players pull into the stadium at the red star on the map below. While they won’t stop for autographs, you do get to see them drive in and can wave at them.

Map of Yankee Stadium with a star near the entrance on the 3rd base outfield side of the stadium designating the entry point for players.

To get into the park more quickly, download the Clear app and take advantage of the special Clear entrance to Yankee Stadium.

  • 1 – Billy Martin
  • 2 – Derek Jeter
  • 3 – Babe Ruth
  • 4 – Lou Gehrig
  • 5 – Joe DiMaggio
  • 6 – Joe Torre

MLB's most affordable ballparks: Which stadiums offer the most bang for your buck?

“To sell volume, it must be affordable. So that’s my whole life, to make it affordable.” – Australian developer Harry Triguboff

Perhaps in Australia, you can drive down the rental rates of apartments by building lots and lots of them. At North American ballparks , a variation on that theme is at work. If a team wants more fans to attend games, they keep prices affordable.

It makes sense. On the surface, anyway.

While this axiom is true in Arizona and Florida, this formula doesn’t seem to apply in the Northeast or West Coast. There, the price to attend a game is high, but fans continue to show up anyway.

But how do you find out which parks are the most affordable to visit?

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

It turns out that a firm called Team Marketing Report conducts just such research. Their Fan Cost Index (FCI) database dates back to 1991, when the most expensive place to attend a big-league game was Toronto. It cost a family of four an average of $93.29 to see the Blue Jays that year.

Last year, the least expensive place to see a game was Chase Field, where a four-member family spent $170.09 to watch the National League champion Diamondbacks.

Talk about inflation!

You might assume that the Oakland A’s, the lame-duck franchise that is moving after this season, would be among the most affordable. Not so. They are middle-of-the-pack, with their FCI coming in at $260.02, which is 16th most expensive.

Chris Hartweg publishes the FCI for all of the teams in various pro sports. A lot goes into his research, including average ticket price, parking, beer, sodas, hot dogs and a hat. The resulting FCI for a venue represents the average cost for a family of four to attend a game.

His 2023 findings helped us select our rankings, because 2024 isn’t compiled yet. We evaluated those findings along with ticket specials and promotions by teams this season to arrive at our rankings. Thanks to Hartweg for allowing us to share his research with our readers!

So here now is our ranking of the eight most affordable big-league parks for 2024.

It’s not much of a spoiler to let you know that none of the eight are in New York, Chicago or Boston. As Colin Cushing of Washington, DC puts it, “Yankee Stadium is outrageously priced and it took us two full innings to get a beer and a dog. Ridiculous.”

By the way, the Yankees’ FCI of $376.54 is topped only by the Red Sox at $396.16.

1. Chase Field – Arizona Diamondbacks

No surprise here, as last year was the 15th straight season that Diamondback fans paid the least to attend games – despite the fact that their FCI jumped 11.7% from the previous year. It’s interesting that the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, whose home is in the western suburbs of Phoenix, have the most affordable NFL venue … although the cost for a family to attend a football game there is $513.14, compared to $170.09 for the D-backs.

2. loanDepot Park – Miami Marlins

The Marlins actually boast the lowest average ticket price in the Majors, coming in at $22.98. In fact, their FCI of $184.90 dropped a bit from the previous year. If you go on a Friday, Budweisers are $5 all game long.

3. Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati Reds

With exciting young talent and affordability, why would you not want to take in a game on the banks of the Ohio River? On Thursdays, there is a $30 ticket that gets you a field-box seat and a $10 concession voucher.

4. Tropicana Field – Tampa Bay Rays

The always-competitive but attendance-challenged Rays emphasize affordability, as seats near the left-field corner are only $10. The FCI for Rays games is $205.01.

5. Coors Field – Colorado Rockies

Watch for "HotRox" ticket specials where seats are only $7.99. Like some other teams around MLB, the Rockies have launched a ticket plan where if you pay $39.99 per month, you’ll get a “Ballpark Pass” that gives you standing-room access for every home game that month. Take the month of August, for instance. There are 15 home games at Coors Field, so if you use your “pass” to attend every one, each game would cost you only $2.67.

6. PNC Park – Pittsburgh Pirates

The future is very bright for the suddenly pitching-strong Pirates. Why not invest in a 10-ticket “flex plan” for $259 that allows you to get from one to ten seats to almost any game? Use it whenever you decide to. Plus you’ll be in an elite ballpark with the nicest view in the sport.

7. Comerica Park – Detroit Tigers

Watch for giveaways on Saturdays – caps, shirts, beach towels, sunglasses, bobbleheads and more. The Tigers also have one of the lowest average ticket prices in the Majors. FCI pegs it at $26.84, with an overall cost for a family of four to attend a game at $224.74.

8. Rogers Centre – Toronto Blue Jays

There is so much to like here, especially the rebuilt outfield with group social spaces, new food items (can you believe poutine on a hot dog?) and $20 Canadian “Outfield District All In” tickets that let you sit in bleachers inches away from the visitors’ bullpen. Be there when the gates open to get a spot on the front row!
