Why You Should Consider The Trek 1000

There are numerous reasons why the Trek 1000 is a great bike for riders of all levels. One of the main contributing factors is its 7005 series aluminum frame, which keeps the weight low at just over 1.5kg for the frame only.

Its lightweight and durable wheels offer stability while minimizing the bike's overall weight, making climbs and descents more enjoyable. Moreover, the Trek 1000's comfortable and adjustable geometry ensures a great fit for a variety of riders.

Delivering Speed

When it comes to speed, the Trek 1000 road bike does not disappoint. The skinny tires and 14-speed configuration make for a nimble and fast ride.

Furthermore, the carbon fiber components add to the bike's overall lightweight, allowing riders to pick up speed and easily tackle various terrains.

The Trek 1000's vacuum tires, paired with the ability to maintain higher tire pressure, set it apart from many bikes. This combination ensures smoother rides, even on challenging terrains, offering both comfort and speed.

The higher tire pressure increases efficiency and gives the rider a significant performance advantage, especially when aiming to win races or outpace fellow cyclists.

Enhancing Endurance

For riders looking to push their limits and improve endurance, the Trek 1000 road bike is a fantastic option. In addition to its lightweight, its responsive handling makes tackling long distances and challenging rides more enjoyable.

This provides a road bike experience allowing riders to push their boundaries confidently.

  • Responsive Handling: Smooth and swift, making navigating different types of terrain easier

  • Light Weight: The aluminum frame and carbon fiber components make the Trek 1000 easier for riders to maintain their pace and power over long distances

Riding the Trek 1000 requires and fosters consistent rational thinking. Its shifting style and the Bontrager sport components demand an engaged rider who is constantly attuned to the bike's responses and the road's demands.

Investing In Trek 1000

Price and value.

Investing in a Trek 1000 road bike is wise for those seeking a versatile and affordable option. This popular road bike offers great value for money, with many riders enjoying its performance and durability.

While the Trek 1000 used to sell for under $1000, new additions have slightly increased the price. However, the Trek 1000 remains affordable compared to many modern bikes.

When it comes to value, the Trek 1000 delivers. The aluminum frame ensures longevity, while the lightweight and quality components provide an enjoyable cycling experience. Cyclists seeking a good road bike without breaking the bank will find the Trek 1000 a great choice.

Maintenance And Durability

Many riders prefer road bikes that require minimal maintenance and can withstand the rigors of daily use. The Trek 1000 is one such bike known for its durability.

With its sturdy aluminum frame, resilient components, and quality construction, the Trek 1000 appeals to cyclists who demand a combination of longevity and performance.

Maintaining the Trek 1000 is relatively simple. We recommend regular upkeep on the bike, such as checking tire pressure, lubricating the chain, and making minor adjustments to the gears as needed.

By performing these routine maintenance tasks, cyclists can ensure the Trek 1000 remains in optimal condition for miles of riding enjoyment. In the long run, the Trek 1000 offers an excellent balance between low-cost investment and consistent performance.

Is The Trek 1000 Road Bike Worth Buying?

The Trek 1000 road bike is definitely worth considering for multiple reasons. First and foremost, Trek is a renowned brand with a reputation for producing high-quality, durable bicycles.

This entry-level road bike offers a great balance between price and performance. Its lightweight aluminum frame provides a smooth ride and is ideal for both beginners and more experienced riders looking for a reliable road bike.

The components, including the gear shifting mechanism and brakes, are consistent and dependable. Additionally, the ergonomic design ensures comfortable long rides. Finally, the value for money is impressive.

Trek SL1000 review

Half a grand is a lot of money for a lot of people - luckily it can get you a lot of bike

Paul Vincent

2004 trek 1000

Half a grand is a lot of money for a lot of people - and luckily it can get you a lot of bike. There's a huge range to choose from at this price, from commuting cycles to long-distance tourers, but if you're looking for something a little lighter and sportier you'll be pleased to know that for around £500 you can buy a machine that'll easily cope with distance rides such as sportives, as well as your day to day cycling, with a good dose of style thrown in.

The Trek SL1000, was a winner in Cycling Plus' 2006 budget race bikes of the year. >

Frame >The Trek frame is based on 7005 series aluminium tubing with butted main tubes and is 1,551g in the 56cm size tested. The welding is plain without any smoothing of the joins, and the paint and decals are an improvement on the previous year's model. We like the neatly executed mudguard bridge detailing between the chainstays.

The distinctive and unusual forward-sloping top-tube (it's higher at the seatpost) is an aspect of the 1000-1500 series that you'll either like or loathe, but the short head-tube enables a low riding position for time trialling that simply isn't possible on the Specialized with its taller head-tube. The handlebar height can be altered considerably by flipping the stem through 180 degrees to point upwards, and further adjustments can be effected in small increments by using the headset spacers provided. The inclusion of rack and mudguard eyes is a major plus point as far as versatility for commuting and general cycling is concerned, meaning that this frame is a good all-rounder.

> Equipment >Given that the £500 price point is largely focused on those who are just getting into their cycling, it is appropriate that Trek have specified the SL1000 with a triple chainset, because the range of gears this provides is more important than the small weight saving of a double chainset. The anatomic 'pistol grip' handlebars have a slightly deeper and lower bend than those of the Specialized, and the radically sloping stem provides a greater than average range of handlebar height settings, though it doesn't win points for style. The Shimano Sora levers work well with your hands rested on the hoods, but it's a long reach to the brake hood button levers when your hands are on the drops.

>An eight-speed Shimano cassette means the transition to a smaller gear is a noticeably bigger step than with a 10-speed system, but the testers felt that it hardly affected their ability to maintain a constant pedalling cadence on undulating roads.

> > Wheels >The Trek wheels are of the traditional variety in using 32 spokes per wheel, laced in a 3-cross pattern to strong, reputable Alex rims - each spoke is crossed by two others, between hub and rim - with unbranded but smooth-running hubs. This year's wheels are 115g heavier per pair than those of the previous year's model that were outwardly similar but used Rigida Chrina rims instead. Trek have retained the tried and trusted Bontrager Select tyres that are probably the best budget tyre we have come across for vertical compliance, and they grip tenaciously in the wet. Their slightly larger 25mm width means they are more resistant to pinch punctures than 23mm tyres, but they'll need to be changed for a 23mm tyre if mudguards are to be fitted to provide enough clearance.

> Handling

The Trek's butted tubes make for a lively performance out on the road and were it not for the weight of the components, this could easily be confused with a bike costing twice the price. There really is very little to criticise when ridden on the flat, but at a shade under 21lb its bulk, which is mainly centred on the wheels, makes it harder for the rider to change tempo on a climb. That said, the fun and lively nature of the ride makes you want to take the long way home on a warm balmy summer evening.

Though odd looking, the system of using spacers stacked to give the greatest handlebar height didn't cause our testers any worries, and the time triallists will warm to the fact that the spacers can be omitted completely to get a low, aerodynamic riding position. > > Verdict

The Trek won our budget race bike of 2006 award by virtue of its versatility and now receives a carbon seatpost, but it's 115g heavier overall because of the new wheels. Compared to the previous model year, the Specialized has seen the biggest raft of improvements which, like the Trek, include a carbon seatpost in place of an aluminium one, together with a higher spec and marginally lighter wheels. >Iit's hard to ignore the Trek's inclusion of mudguard and rack eyes. These make the it a very versatile bike, a quality that can't be overlooked if the bike is to be used year-round for different types of riding. If versatility is your bag, the Trek should be right up your street.

Is Trek 1000 A Good Bike Or Not Worth It?

Trek 1000 is a bicycle that was first introduced in the 1980s and gained a lot of popularity in the 1990s when it seemed like everyone in the middle class owned and rode them. However, is Trek 1000 a good bike?

Trek 1000 is a good bike because it embodies a comfortable seat, a lightweight Alcoa 6061 T6 Aluminum frame, and a Tange Seiki Sealed headset. In addition, it has a Trek EnerGel Lycra saddle and a host of other qualities, making it one of the best masterpieces that any road enthusiast would cherish.

Trek 1000 is neither a speed bike nor a mountain bike. The bike is designed for folks who enjoy long-distance riding on the road rather than mountain biking, even though it isn’t flawless.

The Trek 1000 is practically an ideal bike for those who enjoy riding on the road, and it delivers good performance. If you’re thinking about purchasing a Trek 1000, this walk-through can help you determine whether it’s a vintage worth spending your money on.

Is Trek 1000 A Good Bike

Trek 1000 Bike Specifications

is trek 1000 a good bike.

Let’s Investigate The Features

The Trek 1000 is equipped with a variety of high-quality components that work together to create a dependable mountain bike. These are:

1. An Excellent Lightweight Frame And Fork

In the 1990s, the Alcoa 6061 T6 Aluminum frame was among the lightest. With a weight of only 20 pounds, the Trek 1000 was a portable marvel for those who sought flexibility and seamless performance above everything else.

Carbon fiber bicycle frames are now available and are said to be potentially more robust than aluminum. However, it isn’t easy to match the capabilities of the Alcoa 6061 T6 frame.

Despite having a lighter frame than other models, the Alcoa 6061 T6 remains one of the most durable and dependable products in the market.

The riders were thrilled by the bike’s performance thanks to high-quality craftsmanship as well as the incredible incorporation of the frame and Tange Cro-Moly fork.

Trek 1000 qualities

Furthermore, enthusiasts appreciated Trek 1000 not only because it was extraordinarily light compared to other models in its price range but also because of its reliability in terms of suspension, shock absorption, and other features. The sturdy frame is designed for speed and rapid handling.

2. An Elegant Design

A good frame may boast strength and dependability, but it will come short in terms of aesthetic appeal in most cases. Trek 1000 isn’t blemished by that since its lightweight frame produced some of the best painting jobs back in the ’90s and still does.

Almost no one could find fault with the bike’s design or construction as a whole. Seeing a Trek 1000 on the street is an instant appraisal for those who are familiar with it.

Its electric blue color appears wet with a black splattering which adds to its allure. It is even more attractive when combined with white decals, which add a touch of excellence.

3. Low Maintenance Cost Coupled With Good Performance

Long-distance cycling needs a bike that requires minimal maintenance, and that’s precisely what the Trek 1000 gives you. The fact that the Trek 1000 could be used for hours without mechanical issues cropping up was probably one of the most appealing features for most people. It is ideal for any cyclist who fancies long road rides.

When it comes to continuous use on the road, very few bikes edge out Trek 1000 at the mid-range level.

4. Shimano 400 EX7-Speed SIS Indexing

Trek 1000 is easier to ride up hills than similar bikes in its class, thanks to its gearing Shimano 400 EX7 gearing configuration. Similar bikes will not be able to compete with it when riding downhill or sprinting.

The positioning of the shifters will, however, not go unnoticed. Shifters are typically found on the handlebars of classic bikes. The Trek 1000, on the other hand, has these shifters located below, making it a little more difficult for riders to shift appropriately hence resulting in instability.

Trek 1000 weight

However, after a few rides, the shifters would no longer be an issue.

5. Additional Features

Trek 1000 incorporates SR Anatomic Alloy handlebars, Bontrager Approved stem, Shimano 500 EX 7-speed Front Derailleur, Shimano 400 EX 7-speed Rear Derailleur, among other incredible features, which make it ideal for long-distance road biking.

When it comes to the fork, this bike has an aluminum one, so there won’t be much extra weight added to the bike. However, they are not so stiff as carbon forks are.

When it comes to wheels, the 1000C bike is equipped with the 700c aluminum model. These are the most popular wheels for road, aero, gravel, cyclocross, race, and gravel bikes. However, while they give you great speed and control, these wheels are not so bump-friendly.

For your safety, it is important to have quality breaks on your bike. Trek 1000C has Rim brakes installed. Rim brakes are cheaper than hydraulic brakes, and also easier to maintain. However, they have problems in wet conditions.

Power Rankings: Watch Out for Siblings (and Ireland) and Zurich Classic's Team Event

The Zurich Classic has returned to New Orleans for the annual two-man team event. Here are the duos our model likes this week.

  • Author: Jim Stracka

Welcome to Power Rankings, a weekly feature on SI Golf from our partners at KeyCompete . This week the PGA Tour drops into New Orleans for the Zurich Classic . Here’s how our model sees this week shaping up:

2024 Zurich Classic Preview

Nestled in Avondale, just outside New Orleans, TPC Louisiana was designed by Pete Dye in 2004. Known for vibrant wildlife, sprawling wetlands and majestic cypress trees, the course is a par-72 charmer that stretches over 7,425 yards.

The course cleverly utilizes the natural landscape, incorporating more than 100 bunkers and undulating Bermuda greens. This event is once again a break from traditional stroke play, where two-man teams will play alternating-rounds of four-ball (rounds 1 and 3) and alternate shot (rounds 2 and 4). Here are the teams our model likes this week:

KeyCompete 2024 Zurich Classic Power Rankings

1) Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry (+700) - A formidable Irish team, McIlroy's long drives and Lowry's exceptional short game make them our favorites. They seem especially equipped for four-ball, and their ability to perform under pressure, coupled with their strong friendship, make them the pair to beat.

2) Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay (+450) -  They’re frequent partners in team competitions, and Schauffele’s precision paired with Cantlay’s consistency make them a threat here as well.

3) Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris (+1000) - Theegala’s impressive adaptability and Zalatoris’s powerful tee shots make this young team a good bet on paper. Interested to see how the click in foursomes.

4) Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama (+1600) - Morikawa’s elite iron play and Kitayama’s rise make this team intriguing. Their combined skills could mesh well, especially in alternate shot.

5) Nicolai Hojgaard and Rasmus Hojgaard (+2200) - The Danish twins have similar playing styles and an innate understanding of each other's games that provides a unique advantage.

6) Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin- (+4000) - A Canadian pair flying under the rade from some of the flashier duos, their consistent play and mutual compatibility make them as strong bet. Solo runner-up here last year.

7) Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith (+2800) - Another Canadian duo and former college teammates at Kent State, Conners and Pendrith combine stellar driving accuracy and length.

8) Matt Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick (+2500) -  The brothers from England not only share a surname but also a deep understanding of each other’s games. Matt, a U.S. Open champion, and Alex, a rising star, could leverage their rapport.

9) Keith Mitchell and Joel Dahmen (+4000) - The runaway favorites to have a good time on Bourbon Street. But they also have a solid history here, albeit with different partners.

10) Billy Horschel and Tyson Alexander (+5000) - Horschel and Alexander bring experience and grit. Horschel’s track record in team events paired with Alexander’s solid all-around game could surprise. Horschel is also fresh off a win in last week’s alternate-field event.

 About Last Week

Not enough can be said about Scottie Scheffler’s current dominance, as he prevailed on a rain-delayed Monday for his fourth title in five starts, and another $3.6 million payday. Sahith Theegala moved up for a solo runner-up that should give him some nice momentum this week.

KeyCompete moved its season record to 69-50 on match-up bets.

2024 Zurich Classic odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions by model that's nailed 11 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the zurich classic of new orleans 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks.

rory-mcilroy-pga-golf-getty-images.jpg

Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay look to reclaim some team magic when they pair back up for the 2024 Zurich Classic. The PGA Tour's yearly team event tees off Thursday at TPC Louisiana in New Orleans, and 80 two-man teams will be in attendance for tee off on Thursday. Schauffele and Cantlay were the winning duo back in 2022 and they are the 5-1 favorites on the 2024 Zurich Classic odds board. Should you back this pair of California natives with your 2024 Zurich Classic picks? Or should you back Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry at 8-1 odds?

Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala are listed at 11-1 in the lastest 2024 Zurich Classic odds, and Collin Morkiawa and Kurt Kitayama follow at 16-1. Defending Zurich Classic champions Nick Hardy and David Riley are 80-1 longshots to have repeat success. Before making any 2024 Zurich Classic picks, be sure t o see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, and the RBC Heritage this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Zurich Classic 2024 field is finalized, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2024 Zurich Classic predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Zurich Classic 2024: McIlroy and Lowry, who've combined for 26 wins on the PGA Tour, barely crack the top five. McIlroy is set to play in his fourth consecutive event when he tees off at TPC Louisiana. He's failed to crack the top-10 in seven of his eight starts on the PGA Tour this season, while Lowry has finished T-19 or worse in six of his past eight events.

Both players have struggled mightily on the green this season. McIlroy enters the 2024 Zurich Classic ranked 78th in strokes gained: putting (0.119) and 72nd in putting average (1.758), a big reason why he ranks 98th in scoring average (70.44). Lowry, meanwhile, ranks 99th in strokes gained: putting (-0.012) and 143rd in putts per round (29.38), which doesn't bode well for their chances to finish on top of the leaderboard this week.

Another surprise: Rasmus Højgaard and Nicolai Højgaard, 35-1 longshots, make a strong run at the title. The twin brothers have a much better chance to win it all than their odds imply, so they're a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

The Danish twosome has been making headlines abroad for years now, becoming the first brothers to ever win events in consecutive weeks on the European Tour back in 2021. They are now making noise on the PGA Tour as Nicolai finished second at the Farmers Insurance Open back in January and finished T16 in his first ever Masters appearance earlier this month. Nicolai also played this event last year, so his experience makes the duo an under-the-radar competitor at the 2024 Zurich Classic.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 Zurich Classic picks

The model is also targeting three other teams with odds of 35-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 Zurich Classic, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the Zurich Classic 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected Zurich Classic leaderboard , all from the model that's nailed 11 golf majors, including the last three Masters.

Responsive lively comfortable bike.

Not a bike for 'life' as the frame completely sheared at the down tube just above the gear cable bosses.

I have had the Lemond for well over 10 years now. It has been a great bike although over the years only the frame and forks are original. The frame failed on a normal ride, no crash, no encounters with a pothole. No warning at all. THe previous day someone had stopped me to say what a great bike it was!!! Talk about jinxing it. No idea if there was any warranty on the frame but I have had the bike for so long and the last I heard Lemond was out of business so I am getting any hopes up. A great bike and I will miss it.

It's comfortable and very beautiful.

Plastic sleave logo. Mine ripped in a boke case. Would love to get a new one, but I don't know how.

I've had this 2004 model since the 2005 season. I love it. I bought it with upgraded wheels (Race light - Bontrager) + full Ultegra 10spd. Now I have Fulcum Racing 3 wheels. Just competed a 200Km ride. It was perfect. I'm not the lightest rider; so I'm not looking for the lightest bike.

Similar Products Used:

Lemond Geometry, Smooth ride, Quick handling, Nice colors (I have the yellow)

None for me

This is a great frame! I got his frame used on ebay for $550. I've built it up with Dura Ace 9 spd and Cane Creek wheels. This is not the lightest bike available, but it may have the best ride. It does a nice jobe of absorbing the road bumps but still has a very lively feel

Older LeMond Ti (litespeed from the 90's) Trek 5500 Litespeed Several Steel bikes over the years

Lemond Gemetry Titanium for under a grand once parts sold on eBay.

Ultegra-105 mix

This bike is great as mentioned above the worst part is the parts spec on the bike. I have replaced all but the frame from this purchase it now has a full Campagnolo Chorus drivetrain with Zipp 303's for racing and Mavic Open Pros to Chorus hub with DT Revolutions. The bike had the feel of steel yet responds much better.

Ti brushed finish will look good down the road. Lifetime warranty. With the outboard bearings bottom bracket really stiffened the bottom bracket up.

Cheaper decales, welds on the frame are not top notch. Stock Bontrager Race wheels are junk.

I have had this bike for over a year. This is one great Ti bike. To bad Lemond over priced the bike for what you got and this killed the bike. This is the 2004 model. Lemond only made this bike for 2 years 2003, 2004. The frame has an oversize down tube which helps making the frame stiffer. All tubes Reynolds straight gauge tubes. This frame is not a sprinters frame but if you are going to ride long miles/tour stages this is what it was made for. Ti is super smooth and has a ride quality all on its own. I have changed everything out on the bike. The stock fork is a straight blade which helps make the bike fall into turns faster. The stock wheels Bontrager Race wheels are junk and the TTT The The stem and bars are made for someone with small hands. Why Lemond stop making full Ti bikes is dumb on their part. They should have at least one full Ti bike in the line up. The reason this bike did not sale very well was that is was way over priced for what you got. 2003 was $2750.00 retail and it was not full Shimano Ultegra some 105 thrown in and had crappy Bontrager Race wheels. 2004 price was dropped to $2500.00 and still same as 2003 model. This bike would be a great deal at $1999.00 full Ultegra and use Bontrager Race Lite wheels. Lemond are you reading this... Build it correctly and we will buy it...

Greg LeMond and his geometry- he knows a thing or two about racing bicycles. Handbuilt by Greg's two builders in the USA. Titanium - what it may SLIGHTLY lack in terms of stiffness or lightness, it well makes up for in ride quality and longevity. Ultegra - just about as quick and snappy as top drawer Dura Ace, it's bombproof and has a down to earth pricetag. Bontrager Selects - spin up like eggbeaters and compliment titanium well. Shrewsbury Bicycle Shop, NJ - thanks for finding me the right bike!

Stick on decals have no place on a handbuilt ti frame; otherwise, the bike is flawless thus far.

I didn't plan to purchase the LeMond Arrivee from Shrewsbury Bicycle Shop. My recent purchase from them was a carbon fiber road bike. To my surprise and disappointment, I couldn't appreciate the ride quality of carbon because it didn't provide any feedback from the road. I brought the bike back and explained to Warner that I was looking for a bike which could absorb road shock, yet remain stiff and provide communication between the rider and the road. I must compliment Warner and his staff. They took the bike back without question and placed a special order for the LeMond. What a fantastic bike this is! The LeMond has classic road geometry and styling which is similar to a club racer's bike of old, yet it's thoroughly modern. The brushed Ti finish shines up like a new coin, and the welds are meticulous. The only disappointment with the frame was the cheap stick on decals. They have no place on any ti frame. I have a 55 cm frame, which boasts a roomy 56.5 cm top tube. I swapped the 110mm stem for a 90mm stem before my first ride. The bike is spec'd with mostly Ultegra parts, with a few 105 bits dotting the drivetrain and BB shell. The LeMond's maiden voyage was a fast century at the Jersey Shore. I knew after the first corner that this was MY bike! It literally rides like a magic carpet. It's very compliant, so much in fact that you think it might be a tad mushy or sluggish. Not so. The bike flies up climbs because the frame is actually quite stiff under heavy pedal pressure. The laid back seat angle places the rider behind the BB shell, which recruits the large hip extensors and generates more force with each pedal stroke. Despite the laid back angle, the bike is well behaved in the corners. It is very responsive, but it waits for the rider's input, rather than taking off by itself. It glides along the flats at speeds that are much higher than I perceive, because it does an excellent job at soaking up the vibes. The Bontrager paired spoke wheels are an excellent compliment to a ti frame. They are laterally rigid, which counterbalances the softer ride quality of ti. At the end of a century on a hot and windy day, I felt very strong without any soreness because of the bike's silky ride quality. This bike is pure butter!

Trek 1000 Road Bike ... 2004. Strength: This was my brother's first training bike when he began racing. It was handed off to me and I used it as a commuter class in Syracuse NY, commuting every day of the winter, snow and all. 10. Trek 1000C Road Bike user reviews : 3.5 out of 5

The bike has proven to be very reliable, fast, and most of all, comfortable. The "c" designation doesn't mean that the bike isn't a true road bike. BTW, Trek has stopped making the 1000c, and now makes the Pilot 1.0 in it's place. The geometry is the same, as well as most of the features and specs. A note on the Alex rims and the spoke issue.
