One Day in Antalya Itinerary – Top Things to do in Antalya, Turkey

While Turkey is known for the Grand Bazaar and minarets of Istanbul or the Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia, the resort city of Antalya provides an experience you don’t want to leave out from your itinerary. Antalya is an urban metropolis like Istanbul but has the laid back charm that only a city with world-renowned beaches can offer.

antalya one day tour

Stroll around the charming old quarter and sip on Turkish coffee while gazing at the Mediterranean or take your swimsuit out for a day at the beach that ends with listening to jazz or dancing at a club playing the latest hits. If you’re more of an adventure buff, go hunting for ruins, trek the towering Taurus Mountains or take the bus to the nearest waterfall. Antalya boasts the best of the Turquoise Coast and is also an excellent base for excursions. Even if you find yourself in the city for just one day, it’ll be the highlight of your trip!

What’s The Best Time To Visit Antalya?

The best time to visit Antalya is during the springtime, which is from March to May . During this time of the year, the temperature ranges from 16 to 25 degrees Celsius, so the summer heat has not yet taken over. The pleasant weather means that you can roam all over without worrying about the heatwave and the resorts are open for you to lounge in. The month of Ramadan also falls during this time, which means that you can indulge in the delicacies of Iftar and see the celebrations up close.

Old Marina, Antalya

The summer months from June to August can get unbearably hot with occasional rain, which can put a damper on your plans. However, if you’re looking to go easy on your budget, visit the off-season months after August. This is when most of Antalya is gearing up for its winter months which sees a small amount of snow and almost no tourists.

For the most part, Antalya is a coastal city most active during the months where the sun is out, and the beaches are filled with tourists. You will have the best luck with festivities, resorts and liveliness during these months. However, winter months have their own peaceful charm, should you wish to avoid the crowds and enjoy the cut in prices.

A Few Facts About Antalya

In the words of the Turkish Republic’s founder, Ataturk, “Without a doubt, Antalya is the most beautiful place in the world!”

This exclamation about the city’s heavenly atmosphere is now endorsed by the number of blue flags it holds. As of 2020, Antalya has 206 beaches and five marinas that hold the blue flag. This is the highest number of blue flags held by a county in Turkey and the world.

Old Marina, Antalya

Ever since its inception, Antalya has been a haven surrounded by the Taurus Mountains and the Mediterranean sea. The city also hosts the Antalya Aquarium, which houses diverse fish and the world’s biggest tunnel. When you visit Antalya, you are bound to step into a natural wonder or an essential remnant of history on every corner.

One Day In Antalya Itinerary

Start your day by relaxing on the pebbled konyaalti beach.

Start your morning right by visiting one of the two prime beaches in Antalya. Konyaalti is a stretch of cerulean with pebbles instead of sand rimming the waters. It’s the perfect place to dip your feet into the water and go for a swim or to grab a towel and lay back in the shade of your umbrella. You can also grab drinks at the nearby restaurants and enjoy the views of the sea and the Taurus Mountains.

Konyaalti Beach, Antalya

Since Konyaalti Beach is a popular tourist attraction, visiting in the morning means you will have beat the crowds and have the beach (almost) to yourself. After your swim, grab breakfast at one of the chic cafes and restaurants that line the beach. If you’re looking for a traditional breakfast, order a batch of menemen , an egg dish prepared in the Turkish way.

Menemen, Antalya

Don’t forget to grab slippers for walking the beach, as walking barefoot might hurt your legs.

Shop at Lara or MarkAntalya

After breakfast, you can take the bus to Lara, which is a premium neighbourhood in Antalya. Lara has a white sand beach with stunning views if you want to continue your beach escapade. Here you can rent paddle boards or make use of the amenities of the surrounding resorts to lounge in luxury. If not, you can visit the humongous shopping centres like TerraCity and shop till you drop. If you want to stay closer to the city centre, visit the lively MarkAntalya to shop brands such as Berhska, H&M and Zara and then get a sugary treat of Nutella dough balls (a Turkish favourite) at the nearby dessert shops.

Gorge on Turkish delicacies

We’re all familiar with baklava and Turkish delight , but if you sat down to sample all Turkish delicacies , you would never want to leave. Turkey has a myriad of food choices, from street food to grand dinner table dishes. When you grab lunch in Antalya, make sure to sample some of these. You can grab doner kebabs or pilav (rice) at any of the street food shops or go for a Turkish lunch with several small plates and a bottle of Raki (local alcoholic beverage). For a lavish dinner, we’d suggest heading to the docks of Lara or the old harbour, but if you’re looking for something more down to earth, the street food at the university park or near MarkAntalya is your best bet.

Doner Kebab, Antalya

Take a stroll through Karaalioglu Park

Head to the Karaalioglu Park , close to Kaleici , the old quarter, and take in the view of Antalya from up top. The modern park interweaves walkways through the natural scenery of Antalya and is perched upon cliffs overlooking the cerulean Gulf of Antalya. You can also sit in the chic cafes and sip on Turkish tea while gazing upon the ancient Hidirlik Tower or simply have a picnic in the grassy area or on the picnic tables.

Karaalioglu Park, Antalya

Nostalgic Tramway and Antalya Museum

While trams are common public transport in Antalya, this tramway runs only in the city centre and is worth the 2L fee. The nostalgic tramway takes you back to the past as you sit on the rickety old-fashioned tram. The ride offers quite the juxtaposition as you sit in the transport of an older generation and gaze out at the urban landscape. You can end this trip down memory lane by getting down at the Antalya Museum and taking in more of the city’s history. The Antalya Museum is located in the heart of the town and is a great place to see the best of the excavation adventures around Antalya showcased in all their splendour. This tour will take you through the rich timeline of the Turquoise Coast, from the Roman capture and Greek history to Ottoman remnants and more recent finds.

Antalya Museum

The museum is shut on Mondays, so plan your trip accordingly.

Rediscover the charm of the Old Quarter

After you dig into the past, ease into the present with a stroll through the charming Old Quarter, Kaleici . The old quarter is the centre of all the activities in Antalya and is always abuzz with an event or twenty. The place is a blend of old architecture with urban activities with cycling tracks, cafes and pubs alongside old covered markets and antique gems. Enter the old quarter through Hadrian’s Gate, a three-arched marble archway and one of the most opulent entrances to the quarter.

Hadrian’s Gate, Antalya

Kaleici and its alleys are almost made to directionlessly stroll around as you browse through the shops and peddlers wares. After your walk, you can head towards the Old Marina, where you can grab a Turkish coffee and watch the yachts bob in the Mediterranean or hop into one of the “pirate” boats for a sunset tour. Once you’re back you can end the night at one of the famous clubs of Antalya, which are also located in Kaleici or go for dinner at the charming outdoor cafes or hole in the wall retreats.

Old Quarter Market

If you’re shopping for rare finds, make sure that it doesn’t fall under the ‘antiques’ section with immigration as the exports for such items is prohibited.

Explore the lively Antalya in the AM

If the clubs are shut, or you’ve completed your dinner but don’t want to end the night just yet, take the taxi to the university neighbourhood. You can do so from Republic Square, which is eerily empty and hauntingly beautiful at night. Here, the shops don’t close before 4 AM, and the streets are always crowded with students staying up till the wee hours of the morning. You can relax at any of the cafes that also serve hookah or gorge on delicious food if you get midnight munchies.

Day Trips From Antalya

Go digging into the past at aspendos.

Aspendos is one of the many ruins that are spread across the Turquoise Coast and easily accessible from Antalya. What makes this one particularly special is the fact that it is one of the most well-preserved ruins in the world. The 96 metres wide theatre has also doubled up into a movie set on many occasions. While the theatre was built when the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius ruled, it has distinct Greek styles incorporated in its architecture.

From Antalya, you can take the tram to Perge (Aksu Stop) and then take a 20-minute bus ride or take a direct bus from Antalya Otogar (Main Bus Station) takes over an hour.

Witness the beauty of Duden Waterfalls

Visiting the Upper Duden Waterfalls doesn’t take more than an afternoon from Antalya. The site is inside a nature park just 10 kilometres from the city centre. The park is built around the flow of the waterfall, and you can walk to its base and even grab a meal while you’re at it! If you don’t fancy a lunch break, grab a bit of warm corn to accompany you on the walk to the falls and then climb over the stones to reach the Cave of Wishes . While the rocks may be slippery on the way to the cave, you will be privy to a mystical view from the back of waterfalls once you reach there.

Note: You might get a little wet on your way to the cave.

To reach Duden Waterfalls, you can take any of the buses that regularly ply from MarkAntalya.

See the ever-burning flame in Olympos

Olympos is Turkey’s answer to a place where the young roam free and living amongst nature is the norm. While Olympos is most renowned for the ever-burning flame of Chimera, which is a short hike from the town, it’s a symbol of freedom amongst Turkish youth. The town is riddled with 20-somethings partying till dawn and hanging around in tree houses or trekking at the break of dawn. If you want to experience a night in the wild or an adventurous retreat, a day trip to Olympos from Antalya is your best bet.

To reach Olympos, you can take the bus from Antalya Otogar, which leaves every half an hour. It will take you approximately an hour and a half to reach Olympos.

Extra Tips for Visiting Antalya

When you visit Antalya, make sure to grab a card for the bus and tram services. The card, called AntalyaKart, is rechargeable and available at kiosks at the airport and all over the city. You can also track the stations around you, the routes and the arrival time of the buses (live) on the app of the same name. However, the app only works with the internet, so make sure you have a stable plan when planning to travel around. Websites like booking.com and Wikipedia are also banned in Turkey, so you won’t be able to access them unless you’re on an international data pack.

Remember that the public transport is only operational till midnight, after which you may have to rely on taxis. Ensure that you only go by the meter as the taxis may charge you an exorbitant amount for a short distance otherwise.

Make sure you have everything you need

What to pack for your next trip.

Make your next trip as simple and as enjoyable as possible by packing smart. It’s amazing how much stress top travel items can save you, so choose carefully. Things like lightweight travel backpacks, for example, are ideal for short trips and allow you to move around with ease, and a passport holder will make sure you keep your documents safe at all times. Check our travel checklist guide for 2021 to make sure you haven’t missed anything, and travel to your next destination in style and with maximum comfort.

Antalya Aquarium is one of the family friendly excursions. There are ten underwater tunnels. There is a shark and ray pool, and an educative learning centre. Take your family to see over 1,500 species of marine life worldwide.

The most popular boat trip to take in Antalya is the pirate boat tour . You can enjoy swimming in the stunning turquoise waters. You can relax as you sip ice-cold drinks.

What are the best attractions in Antalya for couples?

Antalya offers plenty of attractions that are perfect for couples. One of the most memorable experiences is a hot air balloon ride . You can float over the unique landscapes of Cappadocia or Pamukkale. You will float above the mesmerizing rock formations or terraced pools. It is once-in-a-lifetime experience you can have with your partner.

For a more relaxing activity, you can try Turkish hammam treatment . These unique treatments from traditional hammams begin with sauna. Next, you will visit to a vast marble room. In the marble room, a masseuse will scrub you and your partner. Next, you will receive a foam and oil massage. Traditional hammam treatment is a way to experience Turkish culture.

Suluada island boat tour from Antalya is among the best tours. This guided tour from Antalya will take you to the Maldives of Turkey. You can soak up the sun and relax on the white sandy beaches. Antalya Maldives suluada island is perfect for snorkelling. It’s an excellent way to spend a day with your partner. You can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the region.

What are the best beaches around Antalya?

Lara Beach: Lara beach has been a favourite of locals and tourists for years. It has crystal-blue water and soft, smooth sand.

Konyaalti Beach: Konyaalti beach is famous for the water sports. The beach here is vast and offers much room to spread out. You will feel at home if you like to take up much space.

Antalya Turkey - All you need to know before visiting

Top things to do in Antalya

Let’s jump right in and see all the top things to do in Antalya.

1. See Lower Duden waterfall (Karpuzkaldıran)

Lower Duden waterfall, or Karpuzkaldıran in Turkish, is one of Antalya’s highlights and a top thing to do because it falls directly from the cliff into the ocean.

You can easily see this unique sight from a sidewalk in Duden Park.

Find on Map

To get to the Lower Duden waterfall, you can use bus lines KL08, KL21, LC07, and LC07A from Lara Beach and Kaleici, the old town of Antalya.

Tip : There are two Duden waterfalls, the upper and the lower, so don’t confuse them. The lower one is the one falling into the ocean.

The coolest way to see the Lower Duden waterfall is by boat tour, which takes you directly in front of the waterfall from the ocean.

Schedule

Book your tour: Antalya City Tour & Boat Trip to Lower Duden Waterfalls .

RECOMMENDED TOURS

We had to skip the boat trip this time, but it seemed like a fantastic experience, judging from the boats approaching it on the water.

Photo tip: There is a fence along the cliff for safety reasons, and you need to cross the fence to get the best photos. Many people do this, and it’s not dangerous because there are a few meters of grass between the viewing platform and the cliff’s edge. If you’re comfortable with stuff like this, go ahead, but we didn’t do it. 😀

2. Explore Kaleici, the Old Town of Antalya

Kaleici, the Old Town of Antalya, has a long, rich history and many preserved ancient ruins and artifacts from the Roman era.

Taking a stroll around Antalya’s Old Town is one of the best things to do, as you can enjoy the beautiful streets full of stunning architecture and colorful shops.

Check out these important landmarks while wandering around the Old Town:

Hidirlik Tower

The 14 meters high Hidirlik Tower was built in the second century during Roman Emperor Hadrian but is unfortunately closed to the public, so you can only watch from behind the park’s fence.

Yivli Minare Mosque

One of the first Islamic buildings in Antalya is the Yivli MInare Mosque, built at the beginning of the 13th century and its fluted minaret is a perfect example of minarets in Anatolian Turkish Architecture.

The entrance to the Yivli mosque is free, and you can visit it anytime except during prayer.

Antalya’s harbor was one of the most important ports on the Anatolian south coast. Today, it serves as a modern marina full of restaurants and cafes and a starting point to many boat tours.

Tip : Start your walk at the harbor, climb the city walls, and walk around the Old Town of Antalya towards the Karaaliouglu Park for sunset. You can also park your car near the harbor.

3. Enjoy the beaches of Antalya

The Turkish coast is breathtaking, and Antalya offers beautiful beaches. However, to enjoy the best ones, you’ll need to stay in a resort with a private beach or drive outside the city.

The most famous beaches in Antalya are:

  • Konyaalti beach: long pebble beach with lots of water activities and rich nightlife
  • Lara beach: the closest one to Antalya airport
  • Mermerli beach: a small beach located right next to the marina

4. Explore the waterfalls

Antalya’s surroundings have some beautiful waterfalls that are worth checking out. So, if you’re a nature fan, make sure to include these on your list.

  • Kursunlu Waterfalls , located about 20 km away from Antalya. You can combine it with the visit to the Ancient City of Termessos.
  • Upper Duden Waterfalls , where you can also go behind them in a cave to get a unique perspective.
  • Uçansu Waterfalls : located around 60km away from Antalya, where you can even swim in one. There is also an upper waterfall to which you’ll need to trek for about an hour.

We had these waterfalls on our list but didn’t have enough time, so we decided to skip them. However, they’re pretty small or even dry in the summer, so this is something to keep in mind. 🙂

The best month to see the waterfalls of Antalya in their full power is in April and during more rainy months (autumn, winter).

5. Day trip to Pamukkale and Hieropolis

Pamukkale and Hierapolis are two fascinating attractions in Turkey and are easily reachable from Antalya.

Pamukkale is a natural site known for its incredible white travertine terraces and hot springs, while Hierapolis was once a significant center of trade and culture.

Pamukkale pools day trip from Antalya, Turkey - best day trip

In addition, the ancient city sat atop hot springs which release mineral-rich water into pools below, forming an unusual structure that looks like a cotton castle! These two wonders have been attracting tourists for centuries.

Pamukkale, Antalya

Pamukkale is around 3,5 hours (approx. 240 km) drive from Antalya. You can drive to Pamukkale by yourself or book a tour that includes Hierapolis and a buffet lunch.

Book your tour: Full-Day Pamukkale & Hierapolis from Antalya

A day trip to Pamukkale is absolutely one of the top things to do in Antalya.

Important: Keep in mind that the photos of Pamukkale going around social media are mostly heavily photoshopped and don’t show a realistic picture of the place. While we think it’s still very much worth seeing Pamukkale and Hieropolis, if you only plan to visit for “the Instagram shot,” it’s better to skip this place.

6. Day trip to Salda Lake

Salda Lake, or Salda Golu in Turkish, is often referred to as the Maldives of Turkey because of the white sandy beach and crystal clear turquoise water. Locals even refer to it as “Saldives”.

Aerial view of Lake Salda in Turkey

The bathing season in Salda Lake is between June and September, but you can still visit it outside those months because the scenery is gorgeous, even with being too cold and windy to swim.

Salda Lake is around 160 km away from Antalya, and if you’re driving by yourself, you can combine a visit to Pamukkale and then Lake Salda on the way back. It will be a lot in one day, but it’s manageable and definitely worth it.

Arijana Tkalčec at Lake Salda in Turkey

There are not that many tours that you can book online that include a visit to Lake Salda, but we have found one Lake Salda & Pamukkale tour on GetYourGuide (choose pickup in Antalya).

Remember: Joining an organized tour from Antalya means you will be picked up very early in the morning, around 4 am, and dropped back at your hotel late in the evening, around 10 pm. And you can’t really avoid that.

7. Day trip to Kas

Kas is one of the cutest coastal towns in Turkey and should definitely be added to your Turkey itinerary.

It’s home to one of the most stunning beaches in Turkey – Kaputas beach. The drive from Antalya to Kas is also spectacular, and you can add Kemer to stop at as well.

Read our Kas travel guide to see all that Kas offers.

If you visit Kas, make sure to take one of the fantastic boat tours through the stunning bays.

8. Day trip to Aspendos

Aspendos holds one of the best-preserved ancient Roman theaters. Even though it’s the highlight of the archeological site, you can also walk around to see a few more ruins around (agora, castle, basilica).

Book your tour: Aspendos Tour (includes Perge and Side)

The ticket price for Aspendos is 60 TL, or around $4.

Aspendos is 50km away from Antalya, and it takes about 40 minutes to get there by car.

The road to Aspendos, Turkey

We wanted to see Aspendos on the way to our next stop, Konya, but unfortunately, we only managed to get in front of the theater. Unfortunately, we got followed by a storm and heavy rain from Antalya, so we didn’t go in.

9. Day trip to Termessos

Termessos Ruins are 40 km away from Antalya. It’s a much less visited attraction than some other archeological places around the area, but there is no public transport to take you there.

The easiest way to get to Termessos is to drive there in a car or on tour.

The ticket price for Termessos Ruins should be approximately $2.

Book your tour: Termessos Tour

10. Day trip to Alanya

Alanya is another resort town with beautiful beaches and historical landmarks on the Turkish coast. Alanya is a popular day trip from Antalya, located around 130 km away from Antalya’s center (about 2 hours drive).

We didn’t manage to visit Alanya the last time we were there, as we plan to visit the city next time and stay for a few days to enjoy the area thoroughly.

Alanya is famous for scuba diving, and we plan on doing that on our next visit, as there are some really cool dive sites to check out.

Book your tour: Scuba Diving in Alanya

11. Go paragliding

If you’re an adventure enthusiast, you will be thrilled to know that you can even go paragliding on your visit to Antalya.

Although the paragliding is actually done in Alanya (about 2 hours away), you can arrange a transfer from Antalya with the paragliding company (paid extra, about 50 euros one way). Or you can add a night or two in Alanya and do it from there.

12. Go rafting and canyoning in the Koprulu Canyon

One of the most exciting things to do in Antalya is to get your adrenaline pumping on an adventure-filled day of canyoning, rafting, and ziplining at the nearby Koprulu Canyon National Park.

13. Have fun at the Land of Legends Theme Park

Visit the famous Land of Legends Theme Park, an immense complex near Antalya full of thrilling roller coaster rides, an exciting water park, over 150 stores, and restaurants and bars.

14. Sail to the beautiful Suluada Island (Turkish Maldives)

Join a day trip to the beautiful Suluada Island, also known as Turkish Maldives from Antalya, which also includes a few swim and snorkel stops at other beautiful bays of the Mediterranean Sea.

Suluada Island looks beautiful, and we would love to go there on our next visit.

15. Visit the Green Canyon and Emerald Lake

Head out from Antalya to the fascinating Green Canyon for a boat tour, where you can swim in the beautiful waters of the emerald lake while surrounded by lush nature.

16. Hop aboard one of the boat trips on the Mediterranean

Antalya is famous for boat trips to nearby Mediterranean bays like Phaselis, and there are different options you can choose from.

The most famous one is the Pirate Boat Trip to Phaselis Bay, but it’s more like a party cruise and is mostly quite crowded, so it might not be the best option for families.

On the other hand, cruises like the Mega Star Cruise are a better option as they’re much more comfortable. And they also visit the same beautiful spots and offer plenty of snorkeling and swimming opportunities.

And if you’re looking for a more private experience, you can charter a private boat trip around Kas with a pickup from Antalya.

Click here to read all about our Kas Kekova boat trip. (we went on a shared boat)

17. Explore the Taurus Mountains

The glorious Taurus Mountains are another must-do thing in Antalya, and they’re the easiest to explore on a full-day Jeep Safari.

Note: This is not an actual safari, and you won’t see any animals except some chickens or goats, but you will get a sightseeing trip to the charming mountainous landscape.

18. Get a traditional Turkish bath and massage

While in Antalya or anywhere in Turkey, pampering yourself with a traditional Turkish bath and massage is an unmissable thing to do.

19. Take in the views from the Olympos cable car ride

One of the best ways to take in the views of the Mediterranean coast and the mountainous landscape near Antalya is by taking the Olympos cable car ride up to 2365m height on top of Mount Tahtali.

The starting point of the Olympos Teleferik (Olympos Cable Car) is about 1 hour and a half drive south of Antalya’s downtown, near Kemer.

You can book a skip-the-line Olympos cable car ticket online or buy a combo ticket that includes a transfer from either Kemer or Antalya.

At the top of Mount Tahtali, after completing the 10-minute ride with the Olympos cable car, you are rewarded with gorgeous views, and there’s also a cafe and a restaurant, and you can even go paragliding.

Note: The top of the mountain is much colder than the area below, so even in summer, it’s wise to take a light jacket!

By the way: If you’re visiting Fethiye/Oludeniz, take a ride on the Babadag Cable Car! You can have spectacular views of the turquoise waters of Oludeniz bay below and can also go paragliding.

Best time to visit Antalya

Antalya has a Mediterranean climate which means summers are hot and dry, and winters cool and mild.

Therefore, the ideal time to visit Antalya is in spring, from mid of March to June, and in fall, from mid-September to mid-November, when the temperatures are pleasant and the area isn’t too busy, like in the peak summer season.

June to September are the hottest months in Antalya, Turkey, and temperatures average from 21 Celsius (the lowest) to 35 Celsius (the highest). Summer is the most popular time for tourists to visit Antalya, which means the area will be crowded and the prices will be the highest.

Colder weather in Antalya starts in November and lasts till the end of March. January is the coldest month in Antalya.

We swam at the Konyaalti beach at the end of October, and we’ve heard of many people enjoying the beaches even further into the end of the year, up until January.

Where to stay in Antalya?

In Antalya, you can stay at one of many beachside resorts or base yourself in Kaleici, the old town.

If you want some better deals or bigger apartments with a kitchen, opt for going a bit outside the central area.

Antalya is pretty big, so there are plenty of accommodations for all budgets.

The bigger beach resorts are mostly found along the Konyaalti and Lara beaches, and there are plenty of resort hotels with great amenities. And budget hotels are also easy to find, especially in the old town.

Where to eat in Antalya?

Antalya offers a lot of restaurants of all kinds and for all budgets. It’s easy to find something just by walking around Kaleici, the old town, from cheap and tasty food in local restaurants to exquisite meals in fine dining restaurants.

There are even a few vegan options in Antalya, such as Vegan House . We really wanted to go, but it was closed on a Sunday when we wanted to visit, so we didn’t manage to. If you’re vegan (or not) and you go there, let us know how you liked it. 😉

Stay protected on public WiFi

We’ve been using NordVPN for over 5 years now and can highly recommend the tool for protecting your privacy and freedom while browsing the internet.

It encrypts your connection and hides your data from potential hackers . Also, with a VPN, you can access blocked/restricted content like some Netflix movies or booking sites.

Public transport is also the most convenient way to get around Antalya during peak season, as you don’t have to worry about parking.

Like any bigger city, Antalya also offers bike rental, and you can rent a bike for as low as $0.5 for a few hours. We found one bike rental spot at the Konyaalti beach, and we’re sure there’s plenty around the major spots of the city.

How long should I spend in Antalya?

One or two full days in Antalya is enough to see the city’s main highlights.

However, if you plan to base yourself in Antalya and explore some fantastic towns and nature spots, count on spending at least four or five days here. But, of course, everything more than that is perfect if you also want to relax a bit.

Perfect Old Town Antalya 1 Day Itinerary – Exploring Kaleiçi Attractions, Restaurants & more!

Visiting Antalya? No doubt you will be visiting Kaleiçi Antalya Old Town, a charming maze of cobbled streets filled with historical sites and, without a doubt, the most popular area in the city. In this post, I’ll be sharing the perfect Old Town Antalya 1 day itinerary, with plenty of things to do in Antalya, including attractions, restaurants and unique ancient sites.

Boat-Sailing-at-Sunset-Antalya-Old-Town

Please note, this Antalya blog post is specifically about the Old Town, known as Kaleiçi, if you are looking for an overall guide to the region of Antalya, check out my post about How to Spend 4 days in Antalya , which gives you all the ancient cities, attractions and restaurants I visited in Antalya.

This Antalya Old Town itinerary has been compiled following a recent press trip package holiday to Antalya with Jet2Holidays , which included activities, towns and restaurants recommended and sourced by GoTürkiye Tourist Board. However, as always, my honest opinions are contained in this post. Thanks for supporting my content!

Kaleiçi Antalya Old Town Things To Do

The best part about visiting the city of Antalya is without a doubt the region’s quaint old town, Kaleiçi located in the heart of the city, which is car-free and under restoration to bring it back to its former glory.

Kaleiçi is perched upon steep, sheer cliffs facing onto turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea which stands testament to the name, Turquoise Coast. Shielded by towering fortified city walls, which until recent times confined the entire city, the cobbled streets are where you will find Ottoman-era konaks with unique shops, restaurants and historical artefacts from Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and Anatolia Seljuk periods.

Mermerli-Beach-Antalya-Itinerary-4-Days

Of course, if you’re limited in time, one of the best ways to explore is by booking an Antalya Old Town walking tour as a local guide will be able to give insight on the Old Town Antalya attractions worth seeing and the intriguing history behind some of the iconic sites. However, the Old Town is walkable without a guide, even with the labyrinth of streets.

To enter Kaleiçi Antalya Old Town, you can walk past the Town Hall, which is now used as a concert hall and hosts photography exhibitions and walk along Kaleiçi Park, or you can enter the Old Town through the most imposing and dramatic entrance.

Hadrian’s Gate Antalya

Like many other destinations, the most well-travelled Roman Emperor Hadrian also made his mark on Antalya by building Hadrian’s Gate in 130 AD to commemorate his trip to Antalya.

Hadrian’s Castle Gate is the principal entrance to Kaleiçi Antalya Old Town and is beautifully preserved despite being built 2,000 years ago. If you look closely, in the middle arch floor you can still see deep chariot wheel tracks ingrained in the stone as you walk through.

This popular Antalya photo spot looks particularly atmospheric at night if you get a chance to revisit it during your day in Antalya.

Antalya-Hadrians-Gate-at-Night

Umbrella Street

If you like finding Instagrammable photo spots during your travels, head to Umbrella Street located in the centre of the Old City, which you may have guessed contains a street lined with umbrellas, similar to Umbrella Street in Dublin, Bratislava and Pink Street in Lisbon !

Whilst not unique to Antalya, you never know when you’ll need an umbrella when visiting Antalya in Winter – early Spring! In Umbrella Street you have over 600 brightly-coloured umbrellas to make the perfect backdrop for your Instagram photos!

Keçili Park

The beautiful park areas in Antalya Old Town are lovely places to unwind and enjoy picturesque views outside the bustling streets. Keçili Park, named “Goat Park” after two wooden goat sculptures found in the park, has a fountain and a glass viewing platform over Mermerli Beach out to the Mediterranean Sea.

Keçili Park is filled with carob trees, with visible seedling pods hanging from its branches which are often used as a substitute for cacao.

This peaceful area is a nice place to relax with the sounds of birds chirping away adding to the serene atmosphere (as you can hear from my Antalya Instagram Stories ).

Mermerli Beach Antalya Old Town Beach

After witnessing the aerial views of Mermerli Beach from Keçili Park it would be rude not to visit!

Access to this small private beach requires an entrance fee of 140 liras (5 euros) and it’s possible to enjoy a coffee or lunch on the beach from the bar. The crystal clear turquoise waters are perfect for snorkelling and a little paddle.

If you would prefer to visit a free public beach, you can visit the golden sands of Konyaalti Beach or Lara Beach nearby.

Antalya Old Town Monuments

Antalya Old Town has an array of monuments within its walls, aside from the iconic Hadrian’s Gate (mentioned earlier in this post!)

If you’re interested in uncovering some Antalya history, then you’ll want to check out these iconic sights:

Hıdırlık Tower

The Hıdırlık Tower overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and is thought to have been built in the 2nd Century AD, though its purpose is quite a mystery. Some say the tower is a lookout point, whereas others believe it was the tomb of someone important in Antalya.

Hidirlik-Tower-Kaleici-Old-Town-Antalya-Turkey

All I know is, the grounds were currently being dug for archaeological purposes during my recent trip to Antalya…

Kesik Minaret (Broken Minaret)

The Kesik Minaret, a former meeting place, contains three generations of uses, from a Pagan Temple, Byzantine Church, to an Ottoman Mosque before it was destroyed in a fire in 1846. Now restored, the minaret is no longer broken!

Inside the building today you will find the Ethnographic Museum containing traditional tapestries and embroidery.

Kesik-Minaret-Old-Town-Antalya

Attalos II Monument

Located on Republic Street, opposite the Clock Tower is where you will find the Attalos II Monument.

A symbol of Antalya’s ancient history, Attalos II the ruler of the Kingdom of Pergamum ordered the construction of a city named Attalia in his honour. The city was founded with a port and later became Antalya.

The Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi)

Antalya’s Clock Tower dates back to the 2nd Century Byzantine period and was part of the original fortress gate forming the main entrance to Kaleiçi.

Atatürk Monument

Celebrating  Atatürk’s rise to power which resulted in the creation of the Turkish Republic, the monument built in 1964 features Atatürk riding on a horse with a boy and girl by his side.

Republic Square

Republic Square is one of the busiest spots in the Antalya Old Town area as it enjoys great views over the harbour and is also used as a meeting place for Antalya tours, where you may also encounter live musicians.

Kaleici Old Town Antalya shopping

The Old Town area of Antalya offers a unique shopping experience where visitors can browse unique boutique shops, ranging from independent clothing and jewellery shops to souvenir shops and traditional Turkish shops.

There’s no Turkish souvenirs like a traditional Turkish kilim rug to take home! If you’re flying with a low-cost airline that does not offer the same great luggage allowances you can get with Jet2, the carpet shop can ship your rug to your place of residence.

Carpets have been traditionally woven in Turkey for hundreds of years, and are considered to be one of the most important arts and crafts of the nation. It is not unusual for different areas and regions to have their own symbolic rugs made – for instance, the carpet of Antalya crafted by nomads includes camels, which were used for transportation, eagles to demonstrate freedom, and scorpions to highlight the pride of the region.

The Explorer Marco Polo famously remarked that the most beautiful carpets he’d ever seen were from the Central and Eastern parts of Turkey. In fact, the blue carpet shown below is a design replica of an award-winning carpet.

There are a variety of carpets and rugs to choose from, both traditional hand-crafted kilim carpets and normal carpets and rugs.

To identify a real kilim carpet, you should be able to see hand-crafted visible stitching on the reverse side of the rug, as opposed to normal carpets which have knots.

Antalya Old Town Bazaar

If you enjoy visiting traditional shops on your travels, similar to the Turkish carpet shop in Kaleiçi, Explore the vibrant stalls of the Old Bazaar (Kaleiçi Çarşı) or head to the Antalya Bazaar (Antalya Kapalı Çarşı), where you will find everything from colourful carpets, souvenirs and clothes, whilst taking in the aromas of the spices and fresh food.

Ideal if you want to take in the sounds and smells of traditional Turkish culture, whilst mingling and haggling with the locals.

Places to Visit in Antalya Old City & Beyond

If your Antalya itinerary allows, I’d recommend visiting the places detailed below, which are within close proximity to Antalya Old Town.

7 Mehmet Restaurant

Whilst, there are certainly a good range of Kaleiçi Old Town Restaurants, one of which we visited for dinner and I’ve shared further in this post. For lunch, our press trip group headed to 7 Mehmet Restaurant located a short distance from Antalya Old Town.

7 Mehmet Restaurant had a humble beginning operating as a soup kitchen serving local tradesmen in the 1940’s. These days Chef Mehmet Akdağ reimagines traditional Turkish recipes with local Mediterranean flavours to create a seasonal menu with naturalness and sustainability in its foreground.

We enjoyed an array of beautiful dishes, from creamy yoghurt dips topped with pomegranate, beef served on a bed of rice and raisins, and for pudding, a surprising, but delicious nonetheless, serving of cottage cheese topped with fresh pumpkin and sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts and a tahini sauce. Let me tell you, despite having some reservations, this dessert was absolutely delicious and is a popular Turkish dessert!

Antalya Old City Marina

Antalya’s Old City Harbour was the first harbour built in Antalya and dates back 2,000 years. With views of the Mediterranean Sea to the Taurus Mountains and beyond, it is still an active marina where local fishermen venture out to capture the catch of the day.

The Old City Marina is where you will see a beautiful array of traditional wooden boats called “gulets” amongst the huge modern yachts lining the harbour.

Kaleici-Park-Aerial-View-of-Mermerli-Beach-Antalya

To easily reach the harbour area, you can take the Kaleiçi Panoramic Elevator, a glass lift that takes you to and from Antalya Harbour back to the popular tourist area of Republic Square.

Antalya Harbour Cruise Tour to Düden Waterfalls

After taking a stroll along Antalya Harbour, you have the option to hop on a 2 hour boat tour to Aşağı Düden Waterfall also known as Karpuzan Waterfall, which is the only seaside waterfall in Turkey (Türkiye) and considered to be one of Antalya’s top tourist attractions.

A boat tour to Düden Waterfalls enables you to admire the cascades of the Lower Düden Waterfalls as they plunge directly into the Mediterranean.

Visiting Düden Waterfalls is quite spectacular and a boat tour is well worth doing, particularly if like me, you’ve never seen a waterfall go directly in the sea.

Duden Waterfalls Antalya Turkey

Our group took a minibus to see the Lower Düden from the Düden Park viewing area, which is free to access from the top level of the park

If you have the opportunity to explore the Düden Waterfalls, you can walk around the beautiful park area for a small fee to explore the waterfalls under the shade of trees and explore the Düden Cave .

Alternatively, if you would prefer to visit the falls by bus, this is also possible from the Kaleiçi area. If you are staying in the Lara Beach area, the Lower Düden Waterfall is a short westerly walk along the coast.

For other spectacular waterfalls, check out:

Antalya Sunset Spots You Won’t Want to Miss!

It doesn’t matter where I travel, I love nothing better than the golden hour of sunset. Here are some sunset spots in Antalya Old Town to add to your itinerary:

Karaalioğlu Park

This Antalya Old Town park offers the most picturesque sunset views over the Mediterranean Sea with breathtaking views of the Taurus Mountains beyond, as you can see from my Antalya Reel:

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jaz 🦋 UK Travel Blogger (@jaz_butterfly)

Another Antalya photo spot, the park is a haven for local cats who are cared for by the community and love nothing more than a fuss and a cuddle.

Tipsy Old Town Bar

Prefer to enjoy your sunsets with a drink in hand? Head to Tipsy Old Town Bar at sunset for rooftop terrace views offering the golden hour glow and cocktails!

Whilst lacking the sunset views of Tipsy Old Town Bar, another bar I noticed was popular during my day in Antalya Old Town was Luna Garden, which seemed popular with both locals and tourists with some great-looking cocktails being served.

Kaleiçi Old Town Restaurants

There are a variety of restaurants in Kaleiçi Antalya Old Town to choose from, our group dined at Seraser Restaurant during our day trip to Antalya City.

Seraser Restaurant

Located in a former 300-year-old mansion, Seraser Restaurant offers a timeless Turkish dining experience in the heart of Kaleiçi.

Access to the restaurant is via a pretty courtyard decked out with tables, lights and various trees and seating next to an open fire, where you can choose to dine al fresco.

antalya one day tour

Inside the restaurant exudes both charm and grandeur, with stone walls, wooden beamed ceilings and floors, with an assortment of trinkets adding to the intrigue.

Our group enjoyed a variety of dishes to suit every palate, including sushi, stuffed vine leaves, shrimp casserole, tandoori lamb with a creamy chickpea mash and finished off with the most delectable Turkish coffee crème brûlée dessert.

Antalya Day Trips

If this Antalya travel guide hasn’t given you enough to do in a day or you have more days to explore in Antalya, don’t miss visiting these ancient cities:

I’ve shared more about these Antalya attractions in my Antalya 4-Day Itinerary !

Is it Worth Spending a Day in Antalya Old Town?

Visiting Antalya City can be quite the contrast to Antalya Old Town, as upon arrival to the City you will see modern building structures and commercial coffee chains and restaurants, which you will find across cities in the world – you know the ones! But, don’t let these put you off exploring!

Kaleiçi is the nicest area in Antalya City as it has so much timeless history, unique shops and restaurants with lots of pretty sights to admire. I hope the travel tips and recommendations included in this Old Town Antalya 1 day itinerary have provided you with plenty of inspiration for your own Antalya trip, with plenty of Antalya day trips to visit too!

Happy travels!

Antalya tours

Antalya tours - The Mediterranean Sea of amazing beauty is rightly considered the city of Antalya — the administrative center of the province of the same name, spread out on the southern coast of Turkey. Vacation in Turkey with Antalya tours the object of lust for the inhabitants of all earthly continents! The reason for this is the high concentration of tourist delights and the mild hospitable climate in the direct and figurative senses. Here you will find fascinating testimonies of ancient times and contrasting urban landscapes of the modern generation. The original nature of the wild sea, rivers and mountains is adjacent to the work of the best landscape designers, creating a cozy atmosphere on the territory of hotels and capital streets. Gentle relaxation on the beaches resists extreme types of free time. Impressive festivities for children and entertainment, the prices of which are very democratic, for every taste for adults just do not count.

Tours in Antalya

Antalya activities

Antalya activities - It is hard to believe, but even in such a mega-popular an inquisitive traveler manages to find enough funny places outside the tourist trails. There you can taste the local flavor, and merge with the flow of citizens and legitimize with ordinary people in a normal environment To understand foreign life “without bills” — an undoubted deficit, and there is something in it! Take at least a trip on the only mode of transport in the region, moving on the railways — a tram. Modern forms of railway express will take a route for only 2 lira s, which is a third cheaper than bus fare. Moving on separate sections of the underground way, you can imagine yourself in the subway, which in the city simply does not exist. I wonder where we can enjoy the sunbathe and picnic? One of these public beaches on the Waterfront Lara Beach is 18 km from the center. Here the sloping descent into the water is especially loved by families vacationing with kids.

Antalya Turkey

Antalya city.

The popular resort of European tourists with warmth called Antalya, although the spelling involves uttering and writing a word with a soft sign. The historical roots of the city stretch back to an incredibly distant 159 BC. The port settlement was founded by the Greek king Attal II and was originally named Attalia. Citizens and guests honor the memory of the founder and worship the exquisite statue erected in his honor at the crossroads of Hesupka and Hindirlyk central square. The legendary outpost was at all times a tidbit of conquerors and therefore repeatedly passed from hand to hand from the Greeks to the Romans and Turks.

Official statistics show that as of 2015, 2 million people lived in the region. 288 thousand their number has increased. Just over a million of them live in the capital. In the summer season, due to the rise of tourist activity, The population is doubling. However, this does not create any collapse: to receive guests here are prepared with special care.

Climate conditions

In this region the weather is a real gift of nature. The subtropical climate of the Mediterranean combines a short, mild winter with heavy rains and a long sultry summer. in winter is very insidious, because cyclones dominate, they are prevented from transiting to the north of the Taurus Mountains. Summer precipitation is a rarity. Atmospheric humidity fluctuates throughout the year in the range of 55-65%. Top 5 sandy shores

The beaches of the coast's are worthy of special attention, first of all, as a healing factor. Some of them will make you feel like a particle of nature, others — to merge with a cheerful company in the cycle of communication. But both, thanks to the pure surface of the marina help vacationers to restore the lost was mental and physical balance: Mermerli Beach in Kaleici is one of the oldest and is located in the historical part. It is only 100 m long, so holidaymakers have to crowd. The shore is rocky and precipitous, but lovers of pristine nature are delighted. Among them: Archaeological - contains about 30,000 exhibits of ancient history and art; Ataturk Museum, the first president of the Republic of Turkey. Breath of antiquity

The old town of Kaleici, spread over 35 hectares, keeps almost in its original form many ancient buildings that survived the recent restoration. Buildings of different civilizations, epochs and styles — mute witnesses of the history of the ancient settlement. A few compact hotels and friendly cafes have turned the district into one of the most popular among tourists. Discovered views of the sea and mountains evoke philosophical reflections on the meaning of existence. The entrance to Kaleici is the Hadrian's Gate, a triple triumphal arch of antiquity. To this day, unfortunately, only the first tier of the building has been preserved. Behind the gate, a 38 m high minaret rushing to the sky opens. The monument of Islamic architecture was erected in the 13th century and can be seen from many points in the surrounding area. Hidirlik tower appeared in the 2nd century. It is a stone 14-meter building, about the purpose of which is still disputed: whether it is a lighthouse for ships, part of the fortress wall, or the tomb of a noble Roman. The relatively young historical landmark of the Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi) is of genuine tourist interest. The uncomplicated stone tower, consisting of two tiers, is decorated with facade clocks presented to the Sultan by the Emperor of Germany in the 19th century. monument is considered a symbol of the city. A one-day tour will lead to the famous ruins of the city of Perge, who knew life as early as the 15th century BC..

Natural attractions

Duden Waterfalls (upper and lower) is formed by the Duden River, which originates high in the mountains, 30 km from the city. The power of the lower waterfall is caused by the fall of water into the abyss from the 45-meter cliff. You can observe the phenomenon not only from the shore, but also from the deck of the ship. Kursunlu Waterfalls, together with centuries-old evergreen cedars and pines, envelops travelers with the coolness of the oasis just 22 km from the metropolis. On an excursion from Antalya to the old city, you will get acquainted with the most iconic places of the city. The famous shopping streets of Gulluk and Ishiklar, as well as the legendary food and clothing market of arshamba in Antalya, will finally complete with a touch typical for shopping passions the portrait of a English guest before returning home from the fabulously beautiful and hospitable capital of the Mediterranean.

After you see the sights of Antalya, I suggest you get a tour guide and go on a sightseeing tour to one of my suggestions below. You can skip ahead to book one here if you already know what you want to see.

1. Antalya To Kekova Island Excersion

Best Islands In Turkey - Kekova Island and Kalekoy from Simena Castle, Kas Antalya Turkey

When staying in Antalya , make sure you find the time to head to Kekova Island, one of the best Turkish islands near Kalekoy village. Here, you’ll find underwater ruins that date back to Lycian times, and you can visit them directly by boat tour or kayak. The ruins were thrown into the sea by a massive earthquake believed to have occurred during the 2nd century. The ruins are now known as the “Sunken City.”

It’s impressive to see first-hand, but the whole island is nothing short of beautiful in its own right. This part of Turkey is packed with ancient ruins, and even a quick visit to Kalekoy will allow you to see the ancient ruins of Simena and a massive fortress on the hilltop.

You can find day trips that tour to Kekova easily from most beach resorts in the Antalya region, with Kas being the closest.

2. Excursion From Antalya To Düden Waterfalls

What To See In Antalya - Waterfall Duden at Antalya, Turkey

Every year, millions of visitors head to the Antalya region , but few know about the beauty of the waterfalls that are just a stone’s throw from Antalya International Airport! These coastal waterfalls are arguably among the most beautiful places in Turkey to visit.

The waterfalls are formed from the cascades of water spilling down Mount Taurus before heading to the sea. As the light fades and the sun sets, the water begins to glisten and forms beautiful waterfalls that you must catch on film.

A rainbow is shining over Duden waterfalls, Antalya

Duden Waterfalls are situated in a protected park, so there’s plenty of greenery to chill out in, and it’s never too crowded, apart from during important national days in Türkiye when locals head out with their family members to spend some time together in the sun.

You can reach the waterfalls on your own steam by hiring a car ; they’re only around 15 minutes from the airport, or you can book a tour, which is probably the easiest way. Tours take you to the foot of the waterfalls, or you can go on a full-day boat trip and see them cascading into the sea for yourself.

3. Day Trip From Antalya To The Land Of Legends Theme Park

Best Day Trips From Antalya - land of legends theme park

Enjoy a day of family-friendly fun by exploring the excitement of the Land of Aqua and Waterfront Kingdom, two distinct zones. This is our recommendation for the kids, but adults can enjoy it, too. No judgment.

You can have all-day access to high-speed rides, four roller coasters, water slides, animal shows, and a 5-dimension cinema. Try the Hyper Coaster, which takes you from 200 feet (61 meters) to a 142 feet (43,5 meters) diameter loop at speeds of 72 miles per hour (115 kilometers per hour), or the Deep Dive slide, which sends you almost vertically down. Later, unwind by gliding down the Lazy Floats River’s gentle currents or having a blast with the family at the Secret Lagoon’s Spray Action multi-level playground.

Find local tour options here.

4. antalya day trip to alanya.

The popular seaside resort, Alanya, is nestled in front of the Taurus mountains. With beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich culture, there is so much to see and do in this beautiful destination. Here are some ideas of what to do in Alanya and on the way there:

Antalya Paragliding Experience

Once ready, the instructor will attach you to his body, and you will take off from the edge of a cliff. From there, you will experience a fantastic sense of freedom.

The paragliding flight is approximately 20 – 30 minutes long and ends at the beautiful Cleopatra Beach.

Cleopatra Beach

Sandy Beaches In Turkey - Cleopatra beach

Cleopatra Beach, a long beach named after the Queen of the Nile, boasts golden sand and an incredible ocean. Often crowded, due to its popularity, you can pay to rent sun loungers and enjoy food from one of the many restaurants and cafes lining the beach.

Ancient City Of Perge & Aspendos

Just outside Antalya, you will find the spectacular ruins of Perge and the amazingly well-preserved Aspendos Amphitheater.

Alanya was once home to many Lycian settlements. This ancient civilization left its marks on every corner of the area through the ruins of ancient cities, such as Perge. Founded in the 13th century BCE, the settlement kept evolving and prospering until the 11th century CE. Around the time Seljuk Turks invaded the area, the city became abandoned. Today, it offers an insightful glimpse into the lives of early Anatolians.

Ancient Damlatas Cave

Close to the beautiful beaches of Cleopatra and Damlatas is the marvelous Dalamatas Cave. With incredible stalactites and interesting geology, this is a great place to explore.

Ölüdeniz is one of the most famous beaches of Fethiye. The extraordinary landscape of the beach combines green hills covered in forests, golden sands, and turquoise waters. Fethiye has a long and rich history; thus, ancient ruins, monuments, and historic structures are in every corner of this historic territory. Few, however, are as intriguing as Kayaköy Ruins. An abandoned church and old houses that once belonged to local Greeks contribute to the mysterious ambiance. Visiting this ancient settlement may help you better understand the local history.

7. Hierapolis & Pamukkale From Antalya

Pamukkale is not a “real” village; it is more like a base for visiting the site with many hotels, restaurants, and small shops. The drive from Antalya to Pamukkale takes around 3 hours. You can go there by car, public transport (a one-way ticket is usually about 20 euros) or with travel agencies which  will organize a private minibus or luxury van.

Here are our suggestions for what to see and do on a Pamukkale tour from Antalya:

Pamukkale Hot Air Balloon Tour

How To Get From Pamukkale To Cappadocia - Hot Air Balloons Turkey

These hot air balloon tours are organized regularly all year long, but only in good weather conditions. You will watch how the crew prepares the balloons and may take as many pictures as you like.

I suggest you start the balloon ride early in the morning, as the most beautiful views will be at sunrise – so make your trip to Pamukkale in the wee hours before the sun comes up.

The Hot Air Balloon flight will take around 1 hour, and you will witness the beautiful sceneries of Pamukkale and the remains of the ancient city of  Hierapolis . Prices for the ride start from 99 euros.

Discover The Ancient City Of Hierapolis

9. Marmaris & Icmeler Tour

Things to do in Marmaris Turkey

Located on the gorgeous Turquoise Coast, Marmaris is lapped by the beautiful blue waters of the Aegean . There is a lot to see and do around this part of the country , although when the heat is on (and trust me, it’s hot during the summer), you’ll probably want to chill out around the pool or lay on the beach!

Marmaris and Icmeler run into one another and are less than 10 minutes apart. For that reason, Icmeler is often called Marmaris because it’s much smaller. However, it’s worth pointing out that they are two different resorts if we are being technical! During your stay, zig-zag between the two because Icmeler is so beautiful and worth more than one visit .

Marmaris is home to myriads of picturesque beaches , crystal-clear waters, and spectacular sunsets. The long stretch of sandy beach runs along the town’s promenade and is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

Another popular feature of Marmaris is its active nightlife, with a range of pubs, nightclubs, and restaurants offering something for everyone. You can enjoy traditional Turkish music at one of the town’s many taverns or sample local dishes at a seafood restaurant.

Marmaris is located 4 hours from Antalya, and a bus departs several times daily from Antalya to Marmaris.

10. Antalya To Konya Day Tour

Cities in Turkey - Konya, Beysehir stone bridge view in town.Historic stone bridge on Beysehir lake

More off the beaten path, Konya is about 4 hours from Antalya.

Konya is a romantic place , the kind that would entice poets and dreamers alike. It’s no surprise that Mevlana Rumi, the famous Sufi poet and whirling dervish, wrote his famous, heartfelt verses here in the 13th century. The Mevlana Museum, which is decorated with beautiful roses and houses the tomb of the renowned poet, should undoubtedly be your first stop.

Its Semahane houses a museum of religious artifacts from the period. For an evening walk and a cup of Turkish tea , visit the Alaeddin Tepe Park.

The Tile Museum and the Museum of Wooden and Stone Carving represent the other fine arts in Konya, ensuring that all art lovers have a great time!

This is also a great place to watch a whirling dervish performance, which takes place weekly in the main square each Saturday.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Colorful hot air balloons before launch in Goreme national park

Türkiye is packed with memorable experiences, but without a doubt, one that features on many Turkey bucket lists is going on a Cappadocia hot air balloon ride and enjoying the fantastic, fairytale-like landscape from the sky.

It’s a sight featured in many travel magazines and websites, so millions of people head to this central Turkish area every year. The Goreme National Park is packed with colossal rock formations that look like fairy chimneys, and gazing over the park is not only Insta-worthy but a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Tourists love visiting here because of its fantastic yet easy hikes, beautiful sunset spots, historic cave dwellings, ancient churches, and splendid nature surrounding the landscape.

What makes this site so accessible is that it is only a 30-minute walk from Goreme, which also happens to be the center of amazing restaurants, excellent hotels, and shopping.

Explore Derinkuyu Underground City

Derinkuyu Underground City, Cappadocia Turkey

You’ll find tunnels and entire cities that exist underground throughout the area. The reason is that this particular part of the country was subject to invasion after invasion throughout history, so these cities were built underground to keep everyone safe . You’ll find churches and schools, even cellars and kitchens too.

While there are many of these underground spaces, Derinkuyu is the best preserved and, therefore, the best if you want to get a realistic view of what life was like back in the day. Walk the highlights of the Lycian Way

I would have liked more hiking and less stopping for lunches at restaurants. I prefer to be on location with a flexible approach to lunch stops. I thought our guide could have explained the routing better and should have been more engaging. I enjoyed the views, the culture and the locations chosen. The standard of accommodation varied and I was disappointed not to have hot water on arrival (especially having hiked and had a swim in the sea) and first thing in the morning. Otherwise, all good.

Gulet Cruise, Kemer – Kekova – Kemer Tour

Gulet Cruise, Kemer – Kekova – Kemer

Lovely relaxing trip, beautiful scenery and nice boat. Captain and his wife were pleasant and kind. Food was lacking both in variety and amount and dietary requirements, despite having been made aware of previously were not catered for. Drinking water was charged for despite being told it was inclusive at meal times and there were no fishing or snorkelling equipment, again after being told that these were available. It’s a shame as these few tweaks would have made all the difference from it being a good experience to a great one

Antalya City Break-4 Days

It was a well planned tour, but wasn’t entirely what I expected. Rather than being with one group of people throughout the whole tour, it was more like they were a travel agency booking day trips for me. There were other people on the day trips, but none overlapped from day to day. Traveling alone, I was hoping to have a group to travel with throughout the tour, which was not the case. I did receive communications each day through WhatsApp with the pickup time for the next day’s events, so communication was good. The Best Western Khan was quite nice with amazing breakfast, but make sure you ask for a room on the pool side, as the other side is right next to a mosque so you can hear the call to prayer loudly through your window at 4:30 am. The boat tour was nice, but was more a ride than a tour. They did not visit any ancient ruin sites or even go back to shore. The boat was totally open and had no AC, and the “bar” was just a few soft drink options and water. The lunch served was edible, but not amazing. The boat stopped in 3 places just for swimming. Also, the van that took me to and from boat was overcrowded with terrible AC and took about 2 hours (not short as described). It was really an unpleasant ride. The Antalya city tour was wonderful - I quite liked that day. Our guide was funny and knowledgeable. FYI Antalya is unbearably hot in the summer (over 100 F each day). I would recommend going during another season.

Absolute Turkey Tour

Absolute Turkey

Fabulous affordable trip around Turkey with Gadventures. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient and patient. The trip was busy but I would not change anything. Group meals are optional and usually not included but always great restaurants and local specialties were available. The home visit and overnight homestay were delightful. The hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia should not be missed. The boat trip and day on the Turkish riviera were fabulous. This was our first Gadventures trip but definitely not our last. The hotels are comfortable but not luxurious. Locations were always perfect! The 15 seater bus was not luxurious but perfect for the trip. Group size of 15 is great and instantly made 13 new friends.

I was really annoyed that I was not given any instructions on how to find my transfer from airport to hotel. Also was really brassed off that you could not make alternative arrangements when my hotel on Istanbul was cancelled 24 hours before I left New Zealand for the start ofy trip

The Turkish Tour Tour

The Turkish Tour

Overall the sights and the guides were excellent however t I will not be using this tour company again. On three occasions there was a change of guests embarking and disembarking from the tour as well as change of tour guides creating uncertainty, confusion. In my case I had three different guides and I was also left alone with a guide visiting sites in a taxi. I cancelled two events that were paid for purely because I was unsettled by the whole process. If I wanted to sightsee just with a guide I would not have booked an organized tour. Also there was no headphones or voxboxes on the bus so that you can block out the non English information so you had to listen to everything being said by the tour guides twice once in English and again in Spanish.

Istanbul to Mediterranean Gulet Cruise 5 Days Tour

Istanbul to Mediterranean Gulet Cruise 5 Days

I booked a tour to Pamukkale as a way of getting from Selcuk to Fethiye in Turkey being picked up from my hotel and delivered to my next destination. The pick up was prompt, the guide was very knowledgeable on Pamukkale and the Roman ruins, unfortunately as only 2 of us were travelling onto Fethiye we were offered a choice of public bus or private car, we opted for the private car which took us and one other person onto Fethiye from Pamukkale, my only criticism was that the guide did not know anything about where we were to be collected when asked which led to me being concerned for the duration of the trip, I arrived back at the meeting point early as I was worried about being collected for our onward journey, the bus driver was very helpful and we then learned that we were to be collected from the village of Pamukkale rather than the actual site. I would happily use the company again for future tours, it would probably have been helpful to have explained up front when I booked that if numbers were low then alternative arrangements would be made so that it was not a shock.

What people love about Antalya Tours

This tour package offered seamless pick-up and drop-off transfers to and from the airport, along with three diverse tours daily, each with different groups, which added to the experience. Included were lunches which was simple but better than nothing and a delightful three-night stay at a fantastic hotel, complete with breakfast. The punctuality of the pickups was commendable despite the busy holiday season in Turkey, making for smooth travel experiences. Among the highlights was the exploration of the Ancient city of Perge, Aspendos Theater, Manavgat Waterfall, and Side, which left a lasting impression. Communication through WhatsApp was efficient and convenient, enhancing the overall trip experience. Antalya captured my heart, and I look forward to returning in the future.

Antalya is one of our favorite regions in Turkey because it offers so much to see and do. It’s the perfect combination of historical landmarks, beaches, incredible natural beauty, hiking experiences, and more.

With so much to see and do, it can be a challenge putting together your Antalya itinerary, especially as the attractions you see will largely be determined by how long you have to spend and who you are traveling with.

To help you out, we’ve listed how we would spend 3, 4, 5, or 7 days in Antalya and our preferred route, so you can make planning your trip to Antalya an easy breezy process.

How many days is Enough For Antalya?

The amount of time you spend in Antalya will largely depend on how much time you have on your vacation.

If you’re planning an extended Turkey itinerary and visiting other parts of the country, you can see the highlights of Antalya in three days.

However, if you have more time at your disposal, do use it. We can think of enough attractions and activities to fill your diary for a week here, maybe even more.

But we would say that the optimal amount of time to spend in Antalya is 5-7 days, which gives you enough time to see the highlights of Antalya and take a couple of day trips.

Where to Stay In Antalya?

Before we get into the attractions and how to organize your Antalya itinerary, let’s quickly discuss the best neighborhood to stay in Antalya to maximize the use of your vacation time.

There are two places in Antalya you might consider staying. The first is the Old Town, which is ideal for first-time visitors, solo travelers, and those traveling on a budget.

The Old Town is the beating heart of Antalya and it’s well connected to many of the top attractions, such as the Hadrian’s Gate, Antalya Clock Tower, and some of the best dining options.

Antalya-Old-Town-Ruins

The second place you want to consider is along the coast. There are many world-class beach resorts in Antalya and they are not all located in the city of Antalya.

What many people don’t realize is that Antalya is a province, and has a city named Antalya after the province – I know, confusing right?

So if you opt for a beach hotel make sure you have booked one in Antalya city OR you’ve hired a car. If you hire a car, it doesn’t really matter which hotel you book.

The Best Antalya Itinerary for 3 Days

We mentioned earlier that three days is the minimum amount of time you need in Antalya, and this is how we would spend those three days…

Day 1: Old Town Antalya

We recommend you spent your first day exploring the Old Town of Antalya and the attractions within Antalya City itself. After that, we can go and explore further afield.

Stop 1: Tünektepe Teleferik (Antalya Cable Car)

cable-car-in-Antalya

Perhaps the biggest attraction in Antalya is the cable car to the summit of Tünektepe, which sits at 1706 meters above sea level.

The cable car takes you to a viewpoint that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Antalya and the Mediterranean Ocean.

Before making your way back down, enjoy the restaurants with a view. You have your choice between a Pizza House, Tea House, or a traditional restaurant in Antalya , each offering incredible views from the building.

Or simply get an ice cream if you’re visiting during the summer. It only takes 10 minutes to reach the top (and back down again) so it’s something you can do either at the beginning or end of the day.

Stop 2: Walk Around the Old Town and Old Roman Harbor

antalya one day tour

The Old Town in Antalya is simply stunning. Also known as Kaleiçi , the historic center brings Antalya’s rich heritage to life.

The historical city center, called “Kaleiçi” (or Old Town in English), sheds light on the cultural heritage of Antalya, where you can feel the spiritual and historical influences on the city.

Here you will find centuries old buildings and quaint cobbled streets, with mosques and parks around every corner. Simply wandering around the town is inspiring in itself.

Since the Old Town was built during the days before cars, you don’t see many vehicles here, so it makes for the perfect place to stroll around, delve into coffee shops and boutique stores, bazaars and antique shops, and simply soak it all up.

Of course, the most iconic feature of Old Town is the Roman Harbour, which was built more than 2,000 years ago as the base for the Turkish Navy.

Be sure to check out the glass elevator that connects the old town with the new.

Stop 3: Check Out Hadrian’s Gate

antalya old town

Located in Old Town Antalya, Hadrian’s Gate is one of the most historic landmarks of Antalya. The archway was built by the Roman Emporer, Hadrian, in the year 130. It’s the only remaining entrance from the Roman era.

The gate sits about 8 meters tall and dates back to the Roman era, but the upper part was rebuilt during the early 13th century by  Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat I .

The gate is free to visit, but though it is small, don’t rush to see it. The ornate detailing of the gate is beautiful and tells the story of the Emporer and his family through statues and entablature.

Stop 4: Antalya Museum

antalya one day tour

Antalya’s history is long and storied, and the best place to learn all about it is at the Antalya Museum, otherwise known as the Antalya Archaeological Museum. The museum is one of the largest archeology museums in Turkey and features an impressive collection of ancient artifacts from the region, including Greek and Roman sculptures and mosaics.

One of the standout pieces was the statues from the city of Perge , depicting the Roman Emporers such as Plancia Magna, Emperor Hadrian, the Emperor Septimius Severus. The museum has thirteen halls, but these were found in the Hall of Imperial Statues.

I was also intrigued by the sarcophagi from ancient Roman burial grounds in the Sarcophagus Hall, each with unique carvings and inscriptions. The most beautiful was the Domitias sarcophagus, which is decorated with reliefs showing the twelve labors of Hercules. The hall features the sarcophagi of Heracles, Domitius Julianus, Domita Philiska, Aurelia Botiane and Demetria.

Overall, the Antalya Museum provided a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history. I highly recommend a visit for any history or culture enthusiasts. If you only have one day in Antalya to spend looking at museums, make sure it’s this one.

Stop 5: Suna & Inan Kirac Kaleici Museum

Located in the historic Kaleiçi district of Antalya, the Suna and İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum is a combination of two lovingly restored homes from the 19th century, a Traditional Antalya House and the Aya Yorgi Church.

The houses contain a diverse collection of artifacts, ranging from traditional clothing and furniture.

One highlight is the Hagios Georgios Church, which contains Çanakkale ceramics that belonged to the Suna & İnan Kıraç collection.

With its unique blend of cultural treasures, the Suna and İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum offers something for every history lover.

Stop 6: Visit Karaalioglu Park for Sunset

antalya one day tour

Karaalioglu Park is a large urban park that overlooks the Roman Harbor and Mediterranean Ocean. It’s full of green spaces, with colorful and exotic flowers, squares, and statues.

It also has three terraces overlooking the ocean, which has become a hotspot for locals and tourists alike to gather and watch the sunset.

Pack a picnic and watch the sun go down, after that, head to the famous Bar Street to experience Antalya’s amazing nightlife.

Day 2: Boat Trip from Antalya

For the second day, you’re going to need to pack your swimwear and towel because we’re going on a boat trip! There are many boat trips in Antalya , but we recommend the Pirate Boat Trip to Phaselis Bay because it’s the perfect combination of history and snorkeling, which is what boat trips are all about.

Stop 1: The Ancient Greek and Roman City of Phaselis

antalya one day tour

If you’re looking for a more historical boat tour, then the pirate boat from Kemer Beach to Phaselis Bay is the bout tour for you. As you discover the stunning bays around the Mediterranean ocean, you’ll be transported by a pirate-themed Gallion, which looks like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The ship will take you to the ancient Greek and Roman city of Phaselis, which is now an open-air  museum in Antalya . The city is now in ruins, which are said to date back to the 7th century BCE.

Wander around the agora and amphitheater, former Roman Baths, and aqueducts, before heading back to the ship to do some more exploring.

Stop 2: Snorkelling at Paradise Bay

Phaselis-Beach-Antalya-Flickr

You’ll have some time to swim in the shallow waters of Phaselis, before having lunch. Then, you’ll sail to Paradise Bay, which as you can imagine by the name, is a stunning beach. You might also get to see the beautiful Mehmet Ali Bükü bay for swimming if there’s time.

Stop 3: See the coral reefs at Alaca Water

The final stop on your journey is the Alaca Water, a gorgeous inlet filled with coral, which is the perfect spot to do some snorkeling before returning home.

The entire tour takes around 6-8 hours, so do plan for a full day.

Day 3: Beach Day

Bordering the Mediterran Sea, Antalya’s beaches are some of the best in the country. Matter of fact, the Turkish Riviera has the nickname Turquoise Coast. It would be a shame to come to this stunning coastal region in Turkey and not spend a day at the beach.

Here are a few beaches we recommend adding to your 3-day Antalya itinerary…

Stop 1: Konyaaltı Beach

Konyaalti-Beach-Antalya

The first beach we suggest you visit is one that’s close to the city center. Konyaalti Beach is a stunning beach that stretches for 13 km, and gently declines into the clear turquoise water of the Mediterranean Sea, perfect for swimming!

Its gentle waves mean it’s a great beach to visit for families, and because it’s so large, you’ll find even when it’s crowded there is enough room for everyone.

The most magical part of swimming at Konyaalti Beach is having the dramatic Beydağları Mountains in the foreground. At certain times of the year, the mountains are topped with snow, which is a site to behold.

Konyaalti Beach is a pebble beach, meaning the water stays clean and clear. You will find plenty of bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers available to use here too.

Stop 2: Lara Beach

Lara-Beach-Antalya

Lara Beach is one of the most popular blue flag beaches on the Turkish Riviera. Boasting a long, sandy stretch of beach with crystal-clear turquoise waters, it is no wonder why Lara Beach in Antalya is so popular with visitors.

Lined with sun loungers and umbrellas that are available to rent for a low fee, this soft-sand beach is perfect for sunbathing and a must-visit on your trip to Antalya. You will be spoilt for choice with beach clubs and nice dining options to enjoy lunch overlooking the beach.

Located east of the city center, you can easily reach Lara Beach within 50 minutes using public transport or by car in 30 minutes. There are many facilities nearby, such as showers, bathrooms, and places for you to change.

Stop 3: Archaeological Museum in Side

side museum

To break up the journey from Antalya to Cleopatra Beach, we recommend stopping in Side. There are some fantastic beaches in Side, but it’s also a great place to grab some lunch or visit the iconic Side Museum, the archeological museum here.

Side Museum is a fascinating museum set in a former ancient bath house (Agora Bath) which is thought to have been built in the 2nd century AD.

The rectangular bathhouse is made up of five rooms; a cold room, a sweat room, two warm rooms, and hot room.

Today the museum is no longer a bath, but a museum showcasing the artifacts uncovered during exvacations of sites in the Side region between 1947 – 1967.

The museum contains statues, sarcophagi, ceramics, and glass and bronze findings. You can also see coins belonging to both the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.

Stop 4: Cleopatra Beach

Cleopatra-Beach-Alanya-Antalya

Lastly is Cleopatra Beach, which is the furthest beach from Antalya city, but is definitely worth the trek.

Named after the Egyptian queen herself, Cleopatra Beach is renowned for incredible blue waters, swimming, water sports, and great facilities. This famous blue-flag beach is situated in the small town of Alanya, a  popular destination for families  and international travelers alike.

The main characteristic of Cleopatra Beach is that it is a white sand beach. As well as the beach, there are many things to do in Alanya that make it worth a couple of days of your time if you can spare it. You will easily find great hotels, restaurants, and bars along the promenade, all of which are located near the beach to maximize the summer holiday experience.

The main beach is around two kilometers from the center of  Alanya  and is reachable by public transport.

If you are looking to partake in some water sports on your summer holiday then head to Cleopatra Beach and try your hand at sailing, kite surfing, or scuba diving.

The Best Antalya Itinerary for 4 Days

If you’re planning a 4-day Antalya itinerary, we recommend following the itinerary above, and on the fourth day, we are going to travel outside the city of Antalya.

We’re going to take a day trip from Antalya to some of the most fascinating historical landmarks in the area, and step back in time (metaphorically) to the Ancient City of Perge…

Day 4: Ancient City of Perge, Temple Of Apollo, and Aspendos Theatre

Visiting the Ancient City of Perge is a full day trip from Antalya, so set aside a full day to explore the city and its nearby historic attractions.

Stop 1: Ancient City of Perge

antalya one day tour

The Ancient City of Perge is a short distance outside Antalya city and was originally an ancient Lycian city, which later became the ancient Greek city of Pamphylia.

Pamphylia was the capital of the Roman province which is now called the Antalya Province, and so was a hugely important city in ancient times. It was even the birthplace of the famous Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga.

Today the city lies in ruins, but it’s still possible to make out where buildings, temples, and rooms once were by the remaining columns and walls.

Although you’re tempted to look up at the imposing columns of The Agora or be amazed at the well-maintained amphitheater, be sure to look down, and take a glimpse of the long central water channel that runs through the middle of the main street.

This channel contained a series of pools that were used to keep citizens cool in the arid climate.

Stop 2: Aspendos Ancient Theater

antalya one day tour

Located not too far away near the city of Side, is the Aspendos Theater . Aspendos was an ancient Greco-Roman city, and though much of the city is in ruins, the ancient theater is remarkably well preserved.

It is said that the construction of the theatre was the result of a competition by Marcus Aurelius, the Emporer of the time. The competition was to build a structure that would bring prosperity and wealth to the city, and the winner of the competition got to marry his daughter.

According to legend, two competitors made it to the finals, one of them constructed the aqueduct and the canal system which supplied the city with running water, and the other built the theater.

When the ruler came to inspect the theater, he stood at the highest point of the structure and heard a whisper, telling him that his daughter was to be the wife of the builder. When he turned to the stage, he saw the builder standing there and was so impressed by the acoustics, awarded him the winner.

Stop 3: Temple of Apollo

antalya one day tour

Back towards the city of Side, lies The Temple of Apollo, a Roman temple built roughly around 150 A.D. It was dedicated to Apollo, the Greek and Roman god of music, light, and harmony.

Today only five columns remain of the temple, which stands tall against a backdrop of the Mediterranean Ocean behind.

There is not much to see, but it’s worth swinging by since it’s on the way back to Antalya.

Stop 4: Kursunlu Waterfalls

kursunlu-waterfall-Antalya

The Kursunlu Waterfall is the perfect place to cool off after a day of exploring. On your way back towards Antalya, stop off at the Kursunlu Waterfall Nature Park, a 587-hectare green space with plenty of trails, picnic areas, and recreation space.

Inside the park stands an 18-meter waterfall that empties into 7 smaller pools, and is surrounded by gorgeous natural beauty. Unfortunately, this is not a place where travelers can swim in.

The water that flows down the river is a deep, rich, blue color and offers visitors a nice backdrop for their photos. Another beautiful feature is a green, mossy wall behind the waterfall.

The walk to the waterfall is around two kilometers. However, for those who are keen hikers, there is a longer option through the national park that takes three hours and follows along the river. Visitors can even go behind the Kurşunlu Waterfall to a hidden cave to take photos and cool off with the spray from the water.

There is a small fee to enter, but the park is well equipped with toilets, paved paths, free parking, Turkish restaurants, and more for visitors to enjoy.

The Best Antalya Itinerary for 5 Days

If you have 5-days in Antalya, then we recommend following the Antalya itinerary above and spending your fifth-day hiking. Antalya is surrounded by mountains and stunning nature, so go out and explore it!

Day 5: Hiking and Whitewater Rafting in Koprulu Canyon

You’ll need to allow a full day to explore the beauty of the Kaprulu Canyon. Make sure you pack a change of clothes as you’re going to need them after you’ve been white water rafting!

Stop 1: White Water Rafting

antalya one day tour

The Koprulu Canyon National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty just outside the city of Antalya. It’s filled with pine forests, mountainous hiking trails, and of course, the beautiful Koprulu Canyon with the Köprü River running through it.

One of the most popular things to do at Koprulu Canyon is to engage in watersports, such as white water rafting, kayaking or canoeing.

Whitewater rafting is certainly the most adventurous, and if you have never done it before, this is the perfect place to try it.

The white water rafting route splits into two canyons, one is a narrow canyon with warm water and surrounded by sheer rock cliffs, while the other is wide, with cold water and surrounded by forested cliffs and natural waterfalls.

antalya one day tour

The diversity of the route makes it incredibly fun. You get the thrill of adventure mixed with the serene beauty of nature around you.

Some of the water is quite rocky and has fast-flowing water, so children under 10 are not allowed with most tour companies.

As you sail down the waters, be sure to keep your eyes on the lookout for the Oluk Bridge and Bugrum Bridge on the Kocadere Stream, which are some excellent examples of Roman engineering.

Stop 2: Quad Bike or Hike in the Pine Forest

After white water rafting, it’s time to explore the natural beauty of the park. Head out on one of the several hiking trails, or better yet, climb on a quad bike and soar through the trails in the pine forest!

antalya one day tour

Stop 3: Zip Line Experience

If you haven’t had enough adrenaline for one day, finish off with a zip-line experience! The zip line course in Koprulu Canyon has a 250-meter rope that extends over Kopru Cay.

Whizz through the air and soar above the canopies of the trees and take in the scenes of the river below. The whole ziplining experience only takes about half an hour so it’s the perfect end to an action-packed day!

Seven Day Itinerary for Antalya

If you have a full week at your disposal, then we recommend you follow the itinerary for Antalya above, and on the sixth day go West towards Kemer and visit the Lycia Rock Tombs and The Sunken City of Kekova.

These are two iconic historic landmarks in Turkey and offer a unique glimpse into another era in the past.

antalya one day tour

Use your seventh day as a buffer day to see the attractions you weren’t able to get to and do all the things you missed. There are always more beaches to see, or you can go and take a refreshing dip in one of Antalya’s waterfalls , such as the Upper Duden Waterfalls.

We all need a little relaxation, and no doubt you’ve got your eyes set on one of Antalya’s world-class resorts. So why not enjoy the facilities a little?

We’re not the type of traveler to spend the whole time in the hotel, but if you’re paying for the facilities, make sure you use them. Spend the morning splashing in the pool or check out the spa.

Getting Around Antalya

Antalya is very easy to get around. The city of very walkable, since most of the main attractions is located in the Old Town, which is also within walking distance of the main beach in Antalya.

There is a public bus network that takes you out of the main city to some of the beaches in the Antalya region, and it’s also possible to do some of these day trips on the public bus too.

Antalya-Tram

However, we don’t recommend it. Buses don’t run as frequently as you would need them to in order to maximize time and they also run on Turkish time, meaning they might not show up at the time they are scheduled.

If you can, we recommend hiring a car. This way you can easily drive from place to place without having to worry about whether the bus will turn up or not.

Of course, if you don’t drive, it’s entirely possible to do it all using public transport but there may be some attractions on this list you will need to skip – or you just stay longer.

Tips for Visiting Antalya

To help you have the best trip to Antalya, here are a few words of advice:

  • Go slow and don’t try to pack it all in. I know these itineraries are jam-packed, but you’re going to exhaust yourself trying to see every beach and historical landmark.
  • Hire a car. It will honestly save you so much time and stress by doing everything yourself and driving.
  • Download the MapsMe App. This is an offline satellite GPS and is perfect for those who are planning on hiking around Antalya as you can follow the trails offline.
  • Prepare for hot weather. Being by the coast, Antalya has a lovely sea breeze which can often make you forget about how hot it is. Wear sun protection and a sun hat and make sure you drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel like you need it.
  • Take out cash . Some establishments in Antalya don’t accept credit cards.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Antalya?

Hidirlik-Tower-Antalya

Antalya is an all-year-round destination, so the best time to visit Antalya largely depends on your preferences for weather and crowd sizes.

If you prefer warm weather and don’t mind the heat and big crowds, the best time to visit is between June and September. July is the hottest month with daily maximum temperatures averaging around 35°C.

However, if you’re looking for more mild weather, the periods from March to May and October to November are considered ideal. During this time, the weather is generally pleasant throughout the day and you can enjoy all the things to do in Antalya including swimming in the sea, sunbathing on the beach, exploring the Old Town, and much more.

How To Get To Antalya, Turkey?

There are many ways to get to Antalya, but for the majority of the travelers, you’ll be getting to Antalya with one of the following three ways:

Flying to Antalya is perhaps the easiest way to get to Antalya. Antalya has its own airport called the Antalya Airport (AYT) and it is about 13.5 km (8.4 mi) away from the historic center – Kaleici. It takes around 30 minutes to drive from the airport to the Kaleici, however, it could take considerably longer when there is traffic, which is quite often.

Getting From Antalya Airport To Historic City Center

Getting to Antalya Airport to the historic center is very easy, especially since there is a tram line that takes you within walking distance from the Kaleici. The T1A AntRay Tram departs just outside of Antalya Airport and takes a little over an hour to get to the city center. It is the cheapest and most efficient way to get into the city.

Turkey has an extensive network of long-distance buses and minibusses that can take you to pretty much anywhere you want. If you want to get to Antalya by bus, you’ll need to take a long-distance bus from anywhere in the country to Antalya Şehirlerarası Otobüs Terminali , Antalya main bus station.

From there, you can take a tram straight into the city center.

By Rental Car

If you have rented a car in Turkey, then it is easy to get to Antalya. Turkey’s highways and roads are generally in good conditions, but please beware of reckless drivers. There tend to be a lot of aggressive ones.

Renting a car in Antalya is also a good option, because there are many day trips and attractions in the surrounding region worth checking out. Hidden gems like Kas, Side, Alanya, Aspendos, and Kemer are great to visit for those with a car.

Hi is antalya good to visit in november… beaches can be seen .. what do you recommend for november

Hi Chaya, yes Antalya would be good to visit in November. The weather is usually warm in the day time and good for a couple of hours on the beach, though it can get cold in the evenings. There’s not much chance of rain. It will be quiet in terms of tourism that time of year, but tours will still operate so you can see all the attractions. I definitely recommend visiting the Ancient City of Perge – it was a highlight on our trip to Antalya. If you like walks, it’s the perfect time of year to do hiking. You can hike a portion of the Lycian Way in a day.

Amazing Antalya

The beautiful city of Antalya on the Mediterranean coast from year to year opens its warm arms to a huge number of tourists. The city has a very stable and mild climate, thanks to which tourists can rest here for as many as 300 days a year. Moreover, the city is famous for its amazingly beautiful hotels and complexes, which look like huge modern castles or fortresses with a huge Turkish flavor and wealth. Also, one cannot fail to mention the amazing `` old city '', which is filled with buildings of the Romans. Separately, guests are attracted by the clear turquoise sea and the picturesque nature of the powerful mountain ranges.

How did the history of Antalya begin? The Greeks in ancient times began to build a huge number of cities for foreign and domestic trade. In 133 BC, the city became a base for surprise attacks on the nearby fortresses of the eastern Mediterranean coast. Well, at the beginning of the 14th century, the city was successfully conquered by the Ottomans, and Antalya rightfully became the capital of the Sanjak. More recently, about half a century ago, the city was completely gray and not developed in terms of tourism, but in just a couple of decades absolutely everything has changed, and Antalya has become an ultra-modern resort with luxury hotels.

Day trips from Antalya

day trips from antalya

The city itself is very conveniently arranged and in almost every area you can find day trips from Antalya to see. We suggest beginning your holiday by starting from the main entrance to the Old Town, through the Hadrian's Gate. The site was built in 130 when the Roman emperor decided to visit Antalya in the past. The building was truly magnificent white marble all around, huge columns, in which were carved images of members of the imperial family.

Above Kaleici, you can observe the huge Yivli minaret, which is 38 meters high. This is the so-called monument of Byzantine Antalya, which was built in 1230. Still, in the old town, not far from the minaret, there is another local attraction - the clock tower, which is the youngest architectural monument in the city. It was built in the 19th century by the order of the German emperor. The chapel consists of several levels and was built of durable polished stone. Have you already wanted to look at these architectural wonders with your own eyes? We will help you with this, choose Excursions in Antalya in 2024 from the travel agency My Antalya Tours and travel with comfort.

Beaches in Antalya

Every corner of Antalya is strewn with a huge number of beautiful beaches that have different landscapes and coastlines. In the west of the resort, beaches of various pebbles in the areas of Konyaalti and Liman spread their arms, and closer to the east, on the beaches of Lara, guests will find warm and soft sand. If you like more secluded places, then we suggest visiting the Liman area, where you can find quiet wild bays, the beauty of which will excite your mind. But keep in mind that on such wild beaches there will be no unnecessary amenities in the form of sun loungers or changing rooms. Well, if you prefer crowded places and soft sand, then go to the east coast of Antalya, where you can truly rest comfortably. You will not find beaches in the city center, there will be only small slopes to the water.

Never Ending Footsteps

How to Spend Four Splendid Days in Antalya, Turkey

antalya one day tour

Antalya is one of the Crown Jewels of the Mediterranean Sea and the perfect place to live the slow life. One of my favorite destinations in Turkey and a place I am dying to go back to.

Shimmering waters greet you with stunning hills in the backdrop. The old town is steeped in history and is exceptionally charming. Antalya’s surrounding areas are filled with ancient Roman ruins that rival anywhere outside Italy itself, fantastic beaches, and water sports galore. As if this place didn’t have enough going for it, the cuisine is unbeatable.

Many expats have chosen to make this city their home and after being here it is no surprise why. Antalya is an ideal place to stay busy with activities or do absolutely nothing at all. Over the two weeks I did a whole lot of both and enjoyed immensely. The whole energy of the city is simply laid back and upbeat and what makes this place what it is is the people. From smiling shopkeepers, helpful strangers, incredible chefs and musicians and new drinking buddies, Antalyans sure know how to make a visitor feel welcome and the legendary Turkish hospitality is on full display.

In my opinion four days is a great amount of time to spend exploring Antalya and the surrounding areas. If you want to spend even more time here I would say definitely go for it but for sure not less!

A typical Turkish breakfast

Day 1: The Town

Are you up bright and early because you are excited as all hell to explore? Well, you should be, because the first thing that you need to do is start with a traditional Turkish breakfast to fuel up for the day.

Because these breakfasts? They’re incredible.

Turkish breakfasts might be the tastiest breakfasts you can have. If you have taken my suggestion on accommodation below, feel free to have all your breakfasts there as the food is amazing, but if not then I have a great alternative at Sirali Kebap. With a spread so large it is likely to fall off of the table, you might have a hard time eating throughout the day. Did I mention it has a stunning view of the Mediterranean to boot?

antalya one day tour

After you are thoroughly stuffed, head down and explore the old town and there is no better place to than start at Hadrian’s gate. A three arched feat of engineering was built almost 2000 years ago and is still as beautiful as the day it was erected.

Mosey down the cobblestone streets and take it all in. Not only are there tons of cute little souvenir stores, cafes, and shops, but also beautiful pieces of history. Some of the highlights include the Kesik Minare, the lone structure standing from a 2nd century building that flip flopped between a between a church and mosque over history depending on the occupying force at an given time, the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque, which is beautifully minimal and an oasis of peace from the bustling streets surrounding it, as well as the marina which has fabulous views of not just the ocean but the surrounding hills that provide a stunning backdrop to the picture.

For lunch stop at one of my favorites, Ayar Meyhanesi, an unpretentious seafood place with relaxed vibes and great grub. Let’s be honest, being a seaside paradise, you are going to be eating a lot of seafood, and out here that is simply a treat. The octopus and shrimp are the stars here. Get the platter to enjoy everything that the ocean has to offer.

antalya one day tour

When you have finished your meal, grab a bus or Uber and head to the other side of town to ride the cable car. I am a firm believer that the best way to see a city is to find the highest point that you can and look down on it from above. I feel like it just puts everything into perspective and gives you a greater sense of the city, and there is nowhere that is better suited for that purpose than the Tunektepe Teleferik or Antalya Cable Car. Going up a mountain just on the outskirts of town and with unbelievable views of the town and sea below. At the top there is a cafe where you can watch the setting sun before you go back down.

After coming back to the old town stop and get some food and wine at No.14 Kaleici. The mezze are superb and the live music keeps the vibe going till 1.

antalya one day tour

Day 2- Olympos

The town is fantastic and there is always something to do, but you came to the beach to go to the beach, so let’s get going! Although there is Lara beach in town, the best stretches of shore are out of the city.

My recommendation for a day out for fun in the sun is going to the sleepy town of Olympos. Now I admit, it doesn’t have the powdery white sand of the Maldives or Bahamas, but the vibe is just right and there is so much to see and do in the area I have decided to classify it as a must visit. The backdrop and deep blue waters aren’t too shabby either. You could even spend a few days there in one of their iconic treehouses like I did, and have the absolute best time.

This place is about 80 KM out of the city so you are going to want to get an early start, so have a quick breakfast at your hotel and hit the road. The easiest and most hassle free way to get there is by private taxi. You can get your hotel to make the reservation for you and they will ensure you get the best price. You can also rent a car if you have an international license and want to take on the gorgeous seaside drive on your own. Besides being more comfortable, these options will allow you to come back at your own time as well instead of being dependent on the timing of public transportation.

If you would like to take public transportation, go to the bus station and look for buses going in the direction of Kumluca-Fethiye and get off at the Olympos stop. If in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask someone as people are extremely eager to help. The buses leave quite frequently, and they take about two hours to arrive, but the journey is part of the adventure! Looking at the cliffs, sparkling water and clear blue skies will entrance you and you might even reach before you are ready!

antalya one day tour

When you get to Olympos, there is a small entrance fee that you will have to pay to enter this ancient city. The place is much more untouched compared to other beaches in the area and that is part of its charm. No chain hotels or restaurants here, just mom and pop guesthouses and mid-sized bars and restaurants. The reason for the lack of development is that this is a protected area due to the endangered sea turtles that lay their eggs in the pebbles from May to October. The government tries to track where they are and surround the areas with wire, but they sometimes miss things so make sure to watch your step.

Take a short dip and then head in to have lunch and map out the rest of your day. My favorite restaurant is the Dione Restaurant Beach Bar. While the most meals in Turkey I have had have been excellent, I have usually been disappointed by the hummus which seems to be on most menus but has nothing on its eastern neighbors. Nevertheless, this was the best I had in Turkey. The staff are also fantastic and is located right on the beach, so you don’t have to go far.

After lunch the world is your oyster. I would say that usually the ruins of the old town are a must see but as we will be seeing a myriad of ancient ruins tomorrow, you can decide if that is something that you need to see.

antalya one day tour

The other item that is on the top of almost everybody’s Olympos list is to see the undying fires of Chimera. Again, you can decide if you want to go see it but I will say that it is not for everyone.

First of all, it is about an hour and half walk uphill from the beach and the same time back and it is not easy at all. When you reach the top, you will see several somewhat small flames that are burning on the face of a rock. The flames never go out due to a natural gas leak.

While it is a super cool natural phenomenon, it is not very visually exciting and will take a minimum of three-and-a-half hours of your day to visit. Since you only have one day here, unless you are looking for a trek I would advise you to give it a miss.

There are tons of activities that can be organized by the local guest houses that are tons of fun. I went on a boat tour with some friends and had a blast visiting different coves, snorkeling, and engaging in general merriment. This is definitely a great option for you.

If that doesn’t appeal to you there is so much more to do. You can also find kayaking, scuba, yoga, rock climbing, paragliding, bungee jumping, and many more things I’m sure I’m forgetting.

Or, just sit on the beach, look out at the ocean, grab a book and do absolutely nothing, you do you, no judgments here! If you cannot find anything to do until you go back in the evening, or get bored, I hate to say it, but you might be the problem.

When your activities are finished, get your tired and tanned butt off the beach and with the sun setting have an early dinner before you get back. Walk over to Kadir’s Tree House, probably one of the most innovative hotels/hostels I have ever seen. Even though you won’t have time to stay in one of these amazing treehouses you can eat in one. There are two bars and two restaurants on the premises. The food is pretty good but not incredible nonetheless the atmosphere is outstanding, and the beer is cold. You will find it extremely hard to pry yourself away to get back to Antalya, but you need to because tomorrow is another full day!

Pamukkale travertines

Day 3 – Hierapolis Ruins/ Pamukkale

Today is going to be a long day but so, so worth it. We are going to visit one of the best-preserved Greek ruins in the world and a place in Pamukkale that looks almost out of this world.

One of the most popular tours to take from Antalya itself, you can find tours either in tour offices in town, or through online platforms such as Get Your Guide. If you go with the tours advertised on the street, you will be able to score a much better rate but it’s very hit or miss as some of the more unscrupulous companies will promise you anything to get your business. The online tour providers cost more but you can read reviews and pick the experience that best suits you. It really just depends on what your priorities are.

The Get Your Guide tour we did was fantastic, with amazing guides, a smooth ride and sumptuous lunch.

They do drop you at a couple overpriced souvenir shops during the ride but that is par for the course when it comes to group tours worldwide and there wasn’t any added pressure to buy. If you are more of a DIY traveler like I usually am, you can self-drive. I didn’t do that here, as with the car rental, entrance fees, and gas you will end up spending even more money, plus the whole day trip takes around 10- 12 hours and that is a lot of driving for one day on top of walking around the sites. I undoubtedly enjoyed the naps in the bus on the way back instead of fighting back my eyelids.

It is about a three-hour car ride to get to Pamukkale which is the first stop of the day. If Instagram or Tiktok recommends you any travel videos at all, you will almost certainly have seen these dreamlike pools. Not just famous in the modern day but even in the ancient world as it is said that even Cleopatra herself came to take a dip in these cooling pools and test their mineral healing properties. Very cool to see and swim in but the time I was there was near the end of peak season, so the crowds were still somewhat overwhelming, but still worthy of being a bucket list item.

antalya one day tour

Next, you will go over just nearby, to the ancient city of Hierapolis. When I say that I was amazed at the scale of the city, that is no exaggeration. Obviously it’s a sliver of a shadow of its former magnificent self, but the ruins are intact enough that you can still see, feel and be able to picture how life used to be here.

I’m usually not a tour guide person but I was glad to be with a group here as there was so much interesting information, I would have missed out on just wandering around by myself. The main road and massive theater were by far the highlights for me.

Take a nap on your way back and get ready for dinner. Seraser was probably the best food I had during the whole trip, everything was amazing, but the beef was the star. The carpaccio is melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the wellington would make even Gordan Ramsey say something nice.

Tomorrow is a relaxing day so feel free to enjoy yourself tonight. I personally love Holly Stone for drinks and live music, but if you are into more house music then Up Shot bar is the place to be.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Pablito (@pablitobistro)

Day 4 – Relaxation

Last night was fun and you might need a bigger than normal breakfast at the Pablito Bistro. The spread is bigger than you can probably eat but give it your best shot! After that head over to a traditional Hammam spa to get in a nice steam and sweat out the rest of the wine and Raki. Most people just think of Istanbul when they think of Turkish spas, but Antalya has some hidden gems.

If you are looking for a more private and luxurious experience, then I loved going to Sefa Hamam Spa. The massage and spa therapists are world class and I left refreshed and smoother than a wet hard-boiled egg. The rooms are works of art in and of themselves and are the ideal backdrop for the treatments.

It seems like most of the massage therapists here are male, so if that is not something that you are comfortable with feel free to look elsewhere, as there are many fantastic venues around. If you are looking for a more public, cheaper, or culturally immersive experience, the Demirhan Bath has exactly what you are looking for. A place that feels stuck in time with a much more local vibe, rub shoulders with everyday Antalyans and get clean.

antalya one day tour

After that head to my favorite beach that is not actually a beach to get some lunch and much needed vitamin D.

Mermerli Beach is a private beach located right in the heart of the old town. It is a private beach, but the entrance is pretty affordable. It is less of a beach and more of a pebbled natural jetty. It is attached to the restaurant up top that you have to go through, and they provide everyone with a chair and umbrella.

Not only is it a perfect place to dive straight into the water without getting sandy, you can also order food and drinks that will be brought directly to your table; what other beach does that?

Swim and then eat, then sunbathe, or sunbathe swim and eat, do whatever feels right in the moment. I probably have never been as relaxed and pampered on any beach as this one.

antalya one day tour

When you are sufficiently roasted and stuffed, head on over to the Antalya Archaeology Museum, one of the largest in Turkey. With 13 exhibition halls chock full of beautiful and fascinating artifacts, you could spend hours here just getting lost in the history. I particularly loved going through the mosaic exhibition.

As the sun sets, end your trip to this picturesque city with a shopping and street food spree at the nearby bazaars. Buy stuff for your walls, your family, your friends, and your dogs back home — they have affordable goodies for everyone. Try Balik Ekmek while you’re there (the ubiquitous fish sandwich), Lahmacun (Turkey’s delicious answer to thin crust pizza), and Adana kebab (smokey and one of the best uses of beef I can think of).

antalya one day tour

Where to Stay

If you want to make full use of your time in Antalya, staying in the old town of Kaleici is a must. This place oozes charm, is centrally located, near all the shops and restaurants and is home to the best hotels in the city. And best among them in my humble opinion is the White Garden Hotel . Smack dab in the middle of all the action but still maintaining a serene atmosphere, the White Garden Hotel is ideal for a relaxing vacation or a romantic getaway. Beautiful heritage style rooms and an incredible Turkish breakfast, what more could you ask for?

As with the vast majority of places the best time to visit is during the shoulder season. This would be around April- May and October- November. This is when the sun is shining, the summer rush of tourists are gone but the heat is at a manageable level. I visited during late August/ early December and while I had a blast it was truly sweltering, and as with anywhere near the sea the humidity only exasperated the problem, and the crowds were a little large for my liking. Nonetheless it was amazing weather for getting in the water.

The winter is a little cold for beach and water activities so while it is still worth traveling to for the old town, you will be missing out on a huge part of the Antalya experience. It is also a little more rainy this time of year so take that with a grain of salt. On the plus side, rates for hotels and tours will be much more affordable than they already are.

How to Get Around

Getting around Antalya is pretty easy. Buy an AntalyaKart card for access on the trams and buses, these are really cheap, and you can top up at many stores or at any tram stop. The tram is also the most convenient and cheapest way to get into the city from the airport or bus station. If your destination is anywhere on the tram line, I would highly recommend using this method of transportation as it is clean, moves fast and comes every few minutes.

The only problem is that it doesn’t go to many parts of the city and for the other areas your options are pretty limited to buses and Uber. The buses are also nice, but the only problem is they are not very regular but if you don’t mind waiting they are a great alternative.

When all else fails Uber is your friend, I wouldn’t try hopping in a normal taxi as many don’t have the meter running and I can almost guarantee you the price will not be the local one. I traveled over a month in Turkey and while being amazed at the hospitality of the Turks, that does not extend to taxi drivers apparently.

Tips and Tricks for Visiting Antalya

  • I say this for almost everywhere but buy a sim card! Trying to figure out where you’re going without Google Maps is not fun. Sim cards are easy to find and can be bought anywhere. Uber is also very helpful here so being able to access Wi-Fi can be a lifesaver.
  • Learn a little bit of the local language to ingratiate yourself with the locals. Turkish people are renowned for their hospitality and most people you encounter will have some level of English. However, trying or even butchering a little bit of their local language will go a long way. Merhaba is the word for hello while thank you is teşekkürler (Teh-sheh-kull-erhz). It looks intimidating, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it!
  • Ask before you take someone’s photo, especially women, as many Turkish people are not comfortable with their photos being taken by strangers (something we have in common).
  • If you are buying something in the local market, just assume the price is around half of what they are trying to sell it for and bargain hard! They expect it but make sure you’re still friendly and don’t take the negotiation process too personally.
  • Clothes in local retailers (not the open-air markets) are extremely cheap and fantastic quality as well. I stocked up on so much while I was there, and it was a great place to refresh my wardrobe during long term travel.
  • If visiting a local mosque, make sure to respect customs and take off your shoes before entering. You’ll need cover your head, shoulders, and knees if you are a woman.

And That Was Antalya!

Antalya is one of my favorite places to visit and the kind of place you can keep coming back to again and again.

Whether as a base during in depth travel of southern Turkey or a place to come for a cheeky holiday weekend, there is never a wrong reason to come here.

Tour of Turkey: Fabio Jakobsen takes first win of 2024 on stage 1

Fabio Jakobsen (dsm-firmenich-PostNL) took his first win of 2024 at the Presidential Tour of Turkey in Antalya, where the Belgian rider beat Sasha Weemaes (Bingoal WB) into second place with Simon Dehairs (Alpecin-Deceuninck) claiming third.

The Tour of Turkey has been heavily anticipated as a test of form for a returning Mark Cavendish , and Astana-Qazaqstan were dominant at the front of the peloton in the final kilometres alongside Alpecin-Pimapen - the temporarily renamed Alpecin-Deceuninck for the duration of the Tour of Turkey.

However, Mark Cavendish was distanced from the front of the sprint and boxed in within the final few hundred metres, as Alpecin-Pimapen inadvertently positioned Fabio Jakobsen for a perfect sprint into the finish line.

Jakobsen stretched out a relatively easy lead over Belgian sprinter Sasha Weemaes, while Alpecin-Pimapen’s Simon Dehairs took third.

The 134.7km stage from Antalya to Antalya was a relatively orderly day for the sprinters from the outset. The early kilometres saw a breakaway form consisting of Marcel Camprubí (Q36.5 Pro Cycling), Jambaljamts Sainbayar (Burgos - BH), Filippo Ridolfo (Novo Nordisk), Julian Borresch (REMBE Pro Cycling Team Sauerland), Aljaz Turk (Adria Mobil), Tomasz Budzinski (Mazowsze Serce Polski) and Emre Yuca (Sakarya BB).

The seven riders enjoyed a leading margin of several minutes through the middle of the race but were pulled in with 21km remaining, allowing the sprint teams to coordinate their lead-out trains.

“Today, we managed to stay together in a hectic final, and everybody helped me really well, especially Bram [Welten] and Toby [Andresen] at the end,” Jakobsen said after the race finished.

“I am standing here as a happy guy to take the win for the team.”

Asked whether he was confident ahead of the race, Jakobsen said, “You never know for sure, but we always give 100%, and I did a good training camp after the start of the season in Spain to really prepare myself for this race and also towards the Giro d'Italia.”

Jakobsen reflected on the significance of the race to him. “It's just a really special race. I remember the first win I took here was against this and Bennett and Cavendish, who back then were the best printers in the world. And then this was my first race back together with Mark Cavendish after the crash in Poland.

“It’s nice to be back here again.”

Was Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Detroit bigger than NFL draft crowds? It's complicated

antalya one day tour

How does the record-breaking attendance for the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday compare to other peak days in Detroit? It's hard to tell given the crowd estimates are created with different methodologies and geographic boundaries.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour visit to the Motor City last June spanned two days, with two sold-out shows of about 60,000 fans each day at Ford Field. But that is the number of people attending the concert, not the number of people estimated visiting Detroit's business district. All told for just one day Swift was in the city, June 10, nearly 350,000 people flocked to Detroit's Central Business District. Motor City Pride Fest was that day at Hart Plaza, too.

That's higher than Thursday's draft crowd of about 275,000 fans — the largest daily NFL draft attendance on record, according to NFL officials. But 275,000 is the NFL's estimate, which is measured differently over a different geographic area. Magnetometers or metal detectors that fans walk through to enter the draft areas provide real-time crowd estimates, according to an e-mail from an NFL spokesperson.

Swift day data was compiled by the Downtown Detroit Partnership from Placer.ai , a firm that analyses foot traffic data from mobile phones.

The daily estimates include the number of people visiting or working in Detroit's Central Business District − an area bounded by the Lodge Freeway (west), Interstate 75 (north), I-375 (east) and the Detroit River (south). The median number of people visiting or working in the central business district between April 1, 2023 and April 7, 2024 was 102,000; foot traffic was higher at about 122,000 people on weekend days.

Back to the draft

Thursday's 275,000 attendance figure includes fans spanning from Campus Martius Park to Hart Plaza and satellite viewing areas such as the Corner Ballpark (Detroit's former Tiger Stadium). If the draft attendance in Detroit continues at this pace over the weekend, Detroit is on track to break the 600,000 record for total attendance, previously held by Nashville in 2019.

Nashville previously held the NFL draft record for daily attendance, too, with about 200,000 fans in 2019 .

Within the last year, people visited Detroit for a variety of jam-packed concerts, sporting and other events. Pink set a record for a reserved seat concert at Comerica Park , with more than 45,000 fans and 207,955 people in the central business district; Detroit Lions' home games extended into the playoffs ; Taylor Swift, Beyoncé , Metallica and many more brought thousands of people to downtown Detroit.

Where the record NFL draft in Detroit stands in relation will have to wait until the draft is over and more comparable data is available next week.

DETROIT (AP) — The NFL draft tour has not had a stop quite like the one in Detroit .

“We watched 32 amazing players join the NFL family in front of a record 275,000 people ,” Commissioner Roger Goodell told fans who flooded downtown Detroit on Friday for a second straight day. “Guess what? Another 230,000 are already here tonight.

“So Detroit, you’re within 100,000 of breaking the all-time record.”

Nashville drew 600,000 fans over the three days of the NFL draft in 2019 to set the mark the Motor City will shoot to surpass on Saturday. Nashville had the previous first- and second-round records, drawing 200,000 fans each day.

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore, assistant coaches and players he has returning from last season’s national championship-winning team were introduced on stage by Goodell, and the crowd sang the school’s fight song before the second round kicked off.

“It’s super special to be here,” Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland said. “Detroit showed out, for sure.

“There’s lot of bodies here.”

Streets, restaurants, bars and hotels were filled for a second straight day as fans of the 32 teams gathered for a party that showed no signs of slowing down.

Larry Kordosky traveled from Arizona to attend his second NFL draft and left no doubt who his favorite team is, wearing red and blue pants with Bills logos and a Buffalo jersey under black shoulder pads.

“You couldn’t ask for a better crowd or host,” Kordosky said, standing in a rare open space in the middle of Campus Martius Park. “I had never been to Detroit. I love it. It’s an amazing city.

“I went to the draft in Las Vegas two years ago, but it was nothing like this. There are fans everywhere, especially Lions fans.”

Lions season-ticket holder Reiner Calderero of Warren, Michigan, and Christopher Guiao of Sterling Heights were in the first row up against a barricade just beyond the covered theater area where the picks were announced.

They were easy to pick out in the crowd.

The men wore the same Honolulu blue and silver masks they put on for home games at nearby Ford Field.

Guiao said the NFL draft experience exceeded his high expectations.

“All day, both days, the whole area has been packed,” he said. “Hopefully, the world sees what we see. Detroit is a beautiful city with warm people.”

In addition to the intangible benefits of showing the city in a good light for visitors and 50-plus million people watching on TVs, phones and tablets, the economic impact was expected to exceed $160 million and that’s when local organizers were expecting 400,000 fans to attend the three-day event.

More than 20 teams have inquired about hosting a future NFL draft and Green Bay will be on the clock after the seventh round concludes Saturday.

The Motor City, which was once one of the nation’s largest and most powerful cities, has bounced back from filing for bankruptcy in 2013 and has made the most of an opportunity to shine.

“A special thank you to everybody here who came from across Michigan and across the United States to help Detroit set new attendance records for the NFL draft,” Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan , joined by Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, said on stage before announcing the Lions had drafted Missouri cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the second round.

The NFL draft is giving Detroit a chance to show the world how far it has come, according to Dan Gilbert, whose real-estate company, Bedrock, was among the private and public entities to land the league’s annual event.

“The city, it’s got an energy to it,” Gilbert said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I think that’s one of the reasons we’re able to convince the NFL to do the draft out here. They could feel the energy as we took them on tours here.”

ISPS HANDA - CHAMPIONSHIP - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from day three in Japan.

Casey Jarvis edged ahead (with a bit of luck), Sebastian Söderberg was landing big birds and Keita Nakajima was hitting it miles in round three of the ISPS HANDA - CHAMPIONSHIP .

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at Taiheiyo Club Gotemba Course.

Jarvis opens up narrow lead

Jarviswill take a one-shot lead into the final round after an adventurous bogey-free 64 on day three. The South African was three shots back after completing his second round early in the morning but was in a share of the lead at the turn after making four birdies on the front nine. He rode his luck at times on the way home but two further gains moved him to 13 under and gave him a slim advantage over Germany's Yannik Paul, who signed for a 68. Swede Söderberg, locals Nakajima and Ryosuke Kinoshita, China's Li Haotong and Frenchman Tom Vaillant were then at 11 under, with 16 players within three shots of the lead.

How's your luck?

After getting a fortunate bounce out of the trees on the 11th, Jarvis was at it again on the 14th. But there was nothing lucky about his second shot.

What. A. Shot.

From 287 yards to six feet. Take a bow Sebastian.

Nakajima nails one
