During an interview last November, drummer Dave Rowntree said Blur’s Wembley dates were a “bucket list” dream : “We’re a band that’s done almost everything it’s possible to do… what an iconic place [Wembley Stadium is], what an iconic venue. It’s just incredibly exciting.

“It’s one of these iconic places that are secretly up on your bucket list, even though you pretend they’re not. I sincerely hope we are a band that can fill a stadium like that. I don’t want there to be four people and a dog.”

Additionally, Blur are scheduled to play  an outdoor gig at Malahide Castle in Dublin as well as sets at Primavera Sound ,  Roskilde , Lucca Summer Festival , Flow Festival and Japan’s Summer Sonic .

NME listed Blur’s 2023 comeback in its recent round-up of the biggest gigs and tours to look forward to in 2023 .

Review: Paul Weller at the Cambridge Corn Exchange

Paul Weller and his five-piece band stopped off at the Corn Exchange on Tuesday, March 29, to play a much-anticipated, by the looks of things, gig that had previously been postponed - more than once. He later thanked the capacity crowd for “hanging onto your tickets”. He also assured us that he and the others had “a lot of songs to play”.

Paul Weller. Picture: Sandra Vijandi

A positive sign ahead of the show, which helped the excitement build (for me at least) was the sight of two drumkits on stage. I love it when rock acts have two sets of drums going at the same time as it gives added power. Both bass drums were painted with the Ukrainian flag, and one of the amps had the flag of said country draped over it.

One of the drummers, Ben Gordelier, also played percussion and the other, Steve Pilgrim, also played guitar, meaning that not every song had that extra percussive kick - but one that did early on was the excellent Cosmic Fringes , off Weller’s 2021 album, Fat Pop (Volume 1) .

Paul Weller. Picture: Nicole Nodland

I felt it took a few songs for the sound men to get the sound balance just right, but once they did then the gig really started to take off. One of the impressive things about the effortlessly cool Mr Weller is that he never stops innovating, moving forward and striving to improve and surprise - and somehow the newer songs slot in perfectly alongside the older material.

“What a f*****g tune that was!” exclaimed Paul after the enjoyably strange Fat Pop , while the singer/guitarist/pianist, who was in fine voice throughout, introduced Stanley Road , the title track of his classic 1995 album, as “a song from the last century”.

Normally with stars of this vintage, I, like pretty much everyone else, usually prefer to hear the older songs, recorded when the artist was young and hungry for success - but in this case, I was really hoping to hear Woo Sé Mama , my absolute favourite Paul Weller song. The fact that it was a track on his 2017 album A Kind Revolution says a lot...

Thankfully it was played, bass player Andy Crofts describing it as one of the band’s favourite songs to play. I’m not surprised - what a tune it is!

That’s not to say that the older songs didn’t feature. Shout to the Top by one of Weller’s previous groups The Style Council was greeted with huge cheers, as was punchy Jam classic Start! .

Before playing the outstanding Old Father Tyme , a track from his 2020 record On Sunset , Paul explained that it was a song about the passing of time and joked that the stage lights were making him look older.

Further highlights - which were also spread out over two encores and welcomed with great enthusiasm by the lively audience members of various ages - included You Do Something to Me , Wild Wood , Jam songs That’s Entertainment and Town Called Malice (the last tune of the evening) and my favourite Paul Weller song for many years prior to Woo Sé Mama , The Changingman .

It was amazing to hear it live - time has not diminished the power of this absolute gem of a song - although personally I would have liked Paul’s guitar to have been a bit louder on the solos... Still, when taken as just a part of an evening’s worth of fabulous entertainment, one certainly can’t complain. Long may Paul Weller continue to make great music!

Paul Weller has rescheduled his summer UK tour dates for spring 2022 – see the new dates in full below.

The Modfather’s run of shows in support of his 15th solo album On Sunset were first supposed to take place last October . However, due to the coronavirus pandemic they were postponed to June/July 2021.

Now, following the government’s announcement that live music is set to return from June, Weller has rescheduled the dates again, this time to spring next year.

“Due to ongoing uncertainty through the pandemic, the decision has been made to reschedule Paul’s UK June/July Summer 2021 tour to March/April 2022,” a statement on Weller’s official Instagram page read. “If you currently hold a ticket, keep this, as it will remain valid for the new date.”

For any customers who are unable to attend the new dates in 2022, they are encouraged to seek a refund from their original point of purchase.

On Sunset was, typically, a critical and commercial success for Weller which claimed the No.1 spot in the UK to become his fifth solo album bestseller there . It was hailed by AllMusic as “fresh” and “distinctly belonging to Weller.” The Observer wrote: “There is warmth and succour here, undercut with a playful scattering of mischievous sounds.”

Last month, Weller announced a new album called Fat Pop (Volume 1) and shared its first single “Cosmic Fringes”.

It comes after Noel Gallagher claimed that Weller had been working on the follow-up to ‘On Sunset’ at home throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The musician started recording vocals, piano and guitar for his 16th solo LP on his own during isolation before sending the material to his core band members (drummer Ben Gordelier, guitarist Steve Cradock and bassist Andy Crofts) who fleshed out the tracks.

Weller then reunited with his band at his Black Barn studio in Surrey to complete the album when COVID restrictions were eased.

Discussing the upcoming album, Weller said: “It’s a celebration of music and what it’s given us all. No matter what situation you are in, and we’re in one now, music doesn’t let you down, does it?”

Fat Pop (Volume 1)  is released on May 14 and can be  pre-ordered here .

Paul Weller at Brixton Academy review: Two-hour musical marathon stays in the comfort zone

paul weller tour 2022 support act

After spending most of the last three years grounded by coronavirus restrictions, Paul Weller was on swashbuckling form as he completed a three-night run of London shows with a clobbering, ear-bashing, two-hour musical marathon in Brixton. As two drummers pummeled away behind a wall of clanging guitars, this was an impressively boisterous performance, albeit a little short on subtlety and variety at times.

Weller has kept busy during the pandemic, releasing two chart-topping studio albums, a superb live collection of old tunes clothed in new orchestral arrangements, and a quartet of experimental soundscapes. His musical horizons have certainly broadened over the past decade. Sadly, little of this adventurous eclecticism was evident during his Brixton show, which mostly conformed to the 63-year-old Modfather’s default setting of retro-leaning, analogue-era blues-rock. In Weller World, pop has barely evolved since the Beatles played their farewell rooftop concert.

Still a dapper and dynamic presence onstage, Weller struck a careful balance between new and old material, saving most of his much-loved early hits for later in the set. “Here’s a lovely song from the last century,” he nodded before blasting through the vintage Style Council track Headstart for Happiness. That was followed by the beefy bossa nova of Have You Ever Had It Blue, the voluptuous It’s a Very Deep Sea and the eternally joyous, uplifting Shout To The Top!

Jam classics were even more thinly deployed, just three in total: the heavily Beatles-influenced Start!, the heart-tugging working-class childhood memoir That’s Entertainment, and a rollicking A Town Called Malice. Each one earned a predictably rapturous sing-along reception, which only reinforced just how stingy Weller was to include so few in a 27-song set. His steadfast refusal to become a greatest-hits heritage act is admirable, but it meant too much of this show consisted of the pedestrian, blokey, second-division fare that has shaped much of his solo career. Burly Britpop bruisers such as White Sky or Woo Sé Mama sounded robust enough, but they hardly rank among Weller’s finest work.

That said, the recent solo material did contain some gems. Weller perched at his piano to perform the catchy soul-pop duet Shades of Blue with the song’s co-writer, his 30-year-old daughter Leah, who easily matched him in the talented tonsils stakes. Fat Pop had a pleasingly wonky, angular, robo-funk groove while Rockets was a true show-stopper, a wistfully soaring ballad that sounded like Damon Albarn channeling David Bowie. After more than 40 years of fame and acclaim, Weller needs no lessons in crowd-pleasing populism. But he could still afford to step outside his conservative comfort zone more often, challenging both himself and his audience.

LIVE REVIEW: Paul Weller at Royal Hospital, Chelsea

PAUL WELLER Announces London Outdoor Show for 2022 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, Home of the Chelsea Pensioners

When Tom Jones kicked off the 2022 Live at Chelsea festival at the Grade, I listed Royal Hospital Chelsea, the weather couldn’t have been more idyllic for the series of open-air concerts in the courtyard. The weather turned sour for the penultimate Simply Red performance but the Crowd spirit, Mick Hucknall’s voice and the gorgeous setting of the 300 years old setting home of Chelsea pensioners ensured a good time was had by all.

For the final evening, the audience was better prepared for the weather, with far fewer people dressed in shorts and t-shirts, and instead of tumultuous cloud bursts, there was light drizzle. Irrespective of the weather, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and producer Emma-Jean Thackray proved to be a fantastic crowd-engaging support act for Paul Weller.

With 17 solo albums, excluding greatest hits compilations and The Jam and The Style Council catalogue, Paul Weller had no shortage of material, and he could easily surprise the audience in the courtyard. Weller chose to open with two songs from 2015’s Saturns Pattern , “White Sky” and “Long Time”. Owing to the seal of the bass drums, material from Fat Pop (Volume 1) , his second number one album of the 2020s, was inevitably going to be played beginning with “Cosmic Fringes”.

When Weller began playing his hit singles, starting with “From The Floorboards Up”, the already standing audience descended evermore forwards towards the stage. Following this came the first of four Style Council songs beginning with “Headstart for Happiness”. The gorgeous use of saxophone was felt throughout. Paul would play and dedicate “It’s a Very Deep Sea” to The Style Council keyboardist Mick Talbot who was in the audience.

Paul also played three songs from his 2020 album,  On Sunset. This material included some of the most mellow and tranquil of the set with “More”, which introduced the flute, whilst “Rockets” was acoustic led and ended unexpectedly. Then came material from Weller’s first two solo LPs. “Above the Clouds” from his self-titled debut and “Into Tomorrow”, which laid down the roots for what would be “Sunflower” from his sophomore effort Wild Wood . Despite the audience being well acquainted with Weller’s material, “Wild Wood” would be the first song they would join in verbatim.

Once Paul began singing The Jam material, beginning with “Start!”, the courtyard was singing and dancing along with escalated elation. Singing and excitement continued to soar as Weller played Heavy Soul’s lead single, “Peacock Suit”. An encore followed, and Weller returned with Stanley Road’s mellow ballads “Broken Stones” and “You Do Something to Me”, which the audience sang along.

The BPM levels and crowd jubilations increased when Paul played “That’s Entertainment”. Ecstasy jumped further when Madness frontman Suggs joined Paul on the stage as they sang the brand new song they dropped earlier this year called “OOH DO U FINK U R”. The crescendo with the penultimate “Changing Man” and playout track “A Town Called Malice”.

Paul Weller, dapper and slick with a bright red shirt and black trousers, was well supported by his five-piece band, which included Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Craddock on guitar and wowed the Royal Hospital with a proportionate cross-section of five decades of original material.

He didn’t need to overindulge in specific albums as many, including his debut album turning 30 and The Jam’s The Gift becoming 40, reach poignant milestones. Nonetheless, based on audience reactions, most would opt for The Jam if they had to choose between more of The Style Council or The Jam material.

Unlike the night before where Simply Red played to the audience I cannot help feel that Paul Weller these days suits himself and to a certain extent rightly so. It took far too long for him to get the crowd on his side and who after being rained on were desperate to be uplifted. I can’t help feel that Paul Weller loves doing his thing on his terms but sometimes he misses the point.

At Rock in Roma 2023, the Modfather's long-awaited concert for an unmissable show: Paul Weller will perform Sept. 22 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone Cavea. In 2021, the British artist released "Fat Pop (Volume 1)," the album that took shape during the period of enforced hiatus, during which Weller felt the need to focus on new music and recorded solo with voice, piano, and guitar. He then sent the demos to his band members-drummer Ben Gordelier , guitarist Steve Cradock , and bassist Andy Crofts-so they could add their parts. The band was then summoned to the Black Barn Studio in Surrey, Weller's personal recording studio, to finish the work. His latest record release is "Will Of The People," a collection of b-sides and rarities featuring contributors Richard Fearless , Young Fathers , Straightface and Stone Foundation .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
