Berlin visitors have a choice of several city passes to help them navigate the city by public transport and offer discounts for museums, sightseeing tours, attractions, bars, restaurants, and clubs.
Finding the right pass can be confusing, but we’ll do our best to provide you with highlights and insider tips to help you find the best choice for your trip.
The first step to finding your pass is to figure out as best you can what you want to do while visiting Berlin. It's best not to let any single tourist discount pass or card dictate to you what you will see.
Secondly, you should decide whether you will use a public transport ticket .
There are many different tourist passes to choose from in Berlin, but none offer exactly the same benefits as another.
A discount pass , such as the Berlin Welcome Card, provides free travel on the Berlin public transportation system along with deals on various tours and attractions (think al-a-carte).
Your savings are more limited with these cards, but they are less expensive and you have more flexibility than an all-inclusive pass.
An all-inclusive pass , such as the Berlin Welcome Card All Inclusive, will allow you free entry to visit certain attractions (think all-inclusive resort).
These passes are limited by the # of days that you choose and one of the options o
So, you can visit as many attractions and tours as you can fit in that timespan.
These are the most expensive options, but you have the potential to save the most money with them.
There are two all-inclusive passes to choose from and we compare them below .
Meanwhile, the Museum Pass will give you free admission to more than 30 different museums in and around the city, but it does not include transportation or any other discounted attractions.
If all else fails, you can also save money on various activities in Berlin by taking advantage of combo deals offered by bus tour companies.
DISCOUNT PASSES
If you don’t feel like spending a lot of money on an all-inclusive pass, or maybe you are not sure that you would use the all-inclusive card enough to make it worth buying, then you might want to consider one of the following discount passes.
These services typically include free public transport along with discounts on several popular attractions.
This is a great option for travelers who want to take control of the places that they visit and save money on transportation.
If you are considering this opportunity, make sure to read about how the AB/ABC Zone tickets work in Berlin.
Berlin Welcome Card
This Berlin Welcome Card offers a discount pass that can help you save a lot of money on admission to several popular attractions.
It also offers an option to include all 5 museums of Museum Island.
With 25% to 50% off at over 200 venues and a public transport pass included, the Berlin Welcome Card is made for travelers who don’t want to miss out on anything.
This pass provides discounts for 48 different museums, 26 attractions, and at least 44 interesting tours in Berlin.
The Welcome Card offers various options in terms of duration and tariff zone.
Travelers can choose either Berlin city centre (tariff zone AB) or Berlin and surrounding areas (tariff zone ABC).
You could also print the voucher at home and obtain the transport tickets and discount pass at any of a number of tourist offices, including BER Airport and most major train stations.
It also comes with a handy guide to the city and the pass's benefits that can fit in your pocket.

While the discounts they offer aren't necessarily as good as their competitors, it's easy to see how you could easily save quite a bit of money using this pass.
Berlin Travel Pass
Each of these discount passes includes a ticket for public transportation throughout Berlin.
The lower-priced options include an AB Zone ticket while the higher-priced passes have an ABC Zone ticket.
No matter which transit pass you choose to purchase, it is important to understand some basic details about these public transport tickets.
Be sure to read our guide on how to use Berlin's mass transportation system .
Useful for Several Services
The transport ticket is valid on all subways (U-Bahn and S-Bahn), suburban trains (RE and RB), buses, night buses, trams, and also for two ferries.
With this card in hand, you shouldn’t have much trouble getting around the city of Berlin.
AB or ABC Tariff Zones
It’s important to understand the difference between the AB and ABC Fare Zones.
While the AB Zone pass will provide transportation within the inner city, the ABC Zone is useful for traveling around the suburbs of Berlin as well.
This might come in handy if you intend to visit any locations on the outskirts of Berlin, such as Potsdam or Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp , or if you plan to use the BER Airport.
However, a single-ride addon ticket for Zone C costs only €1.80 per ride.
Kids Ride for Free
With each of these discount passes, an unlimited number of children up to the age of 6 can travel for free.
They also allow up to 3 kids between the ages of 6-14 for free with each pass.
Luggage Is Also Free
Visitors are welcome to bring one piece of luggage or one bag per person on public transport.
Certain Items Might Cost Extra
If you have a bicycle or similarly sized item, you may be asked to pay extra as these types of items are not included with the pass.
That being said, both the Berlin Welcome Card and the Easy City Pass will allow you to bring a dog on board.
Transport Ticket Must Be Validated
Before you can use your AB/ABC Zone ticket, it must be validated by stamping it once.
You will find machines to validate your ticket near most metro stations and other areas where you can find public transport.
You only need to stamp your ticket once – if you stamp it again, it will be void.
ALL-INCLUSIVE PASSES
All-inclusive passes are the most expensive option, but they also offer the widest range of activities and the most potential for savings.
If you have the time and the desire to experience a bunch of different museums, tours, and other attractions, this is likely going to be one of your best options.
Rather than worrying about which sites you can visit, these all-inclusive passes will allow you to explore dozens of notable locations at your leisure.
There are two All-Inclusive passes offered in Berlin: The Go City Berlin Pass and the Welcome Card All-Inclusive .
Although both services provide access to a lot of entertaining activities, you will notice a few differences between each tourist pass.
Specifically, there are some attractions that are offered on one pass, but not the other.
Bearing that in mind, we’ll do our best to highlight in red tours and attractions that are exclusive to either card.
The Welcome Card All-Inclusive
Although this card doesn’t provide as much variety, the Welcome Card All-Inclusive does provide admission to some museums and historic sites that aren’t offered by the Berlin Pass (see below).
You can also get this pass from 2 up to 6 days as opposed to the 3-day option above.
Overall, this pass is less expensive, so depending on what you want to see, this card might make more sense for you.
What they lack in variety, they make up for in overall value.

Perhaps it needs a different name, but it's definitely worth considering if you want to save money at any of these locations.
Alexanderplatz Pass
If you're planning to visit Alexanderplatz, this pass will cover the cost of a few popular activities in the area.

Tips From Locals and Travelers
While we do our best to provide the most unbiased reviews of discount passes, the best way to make sure you're getting the truth is to check and see what actual locals and travelers have to say about these services.
One of the best places to find this kind of information is on Facebook groups such as Berlin Travel Tips .
A lot of people who have either lived in the area or travel there frequently will share their own thoughts on various tourist pass options.
Here are a few of the best tips we could find.
When it comes to the Welcome Card, it seems that most people are split on whether or not it's worth the money.
One thing most travelers agree on is that it's good if you plan to visit a lot of the included attractions, but if you're not interested in a majority of included activities, it might not be worth it.
Some commenters suggest buying a travel pass instead, because it's definitely a good way to get around the city with ease.
That said, some travelers feel that the Berlin Welcome Card isn't worth the cost, and they note that you can often save more money through other methods.
This is certainly true, because most museums offer discounted rates to students and young adults, so you might actually save more just by getting a different kind of ticket!
As John notes about the Museum Pass, most museums will give you the student discount if you have a student ID from other parts of the world.
This is a valuable tip, because most museums around the world only offer student discounts to local students, but that doesn't seem to be the case in Berlin.
Even so, as Anieze suggests, you should probably check with each museum before heading out.

Is the Berlin Welcome Card worth it?
May 5, 2023 | Posted in: Germany
Berlin in Germany is one of those cities where you can't just do it all in one trip. There are so many museums, shows, and activities that it can be a bit overwhelming not just when you're planning but to your budget too.
Fear not, because if you're someone who likes to visit a bunch of places and not just wander around outdoors (which is fun in summer but way too cold in winter), the Berlin Welcome Card lets you do just that for a fixed price.

The EasyCityPass Berlin covers less sights and activities but it does offer free public transport. If you're going to Berlin for at least three days and plan to use public transport at least twice per day, get the EasyCityPass Berlin to save money.

The second kind of card is the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive. This includes everything that you get with a classic card, plus some extra goodies. In addition to discounts at over 200 sites, you will also get free admission to over 30 of the city's top attractions.
The third type of Welcome Card is the Museum Island Berlin Welcome Card, which includes all the benefits of the classic welcome card plus free entry to one museum on Museum Island per day. These museums are: Alte Nationalgalerie, Altes Museum, Bode Museum, Neues Museum, and Pergamon Museum.
If you plan your days meticulously and can fit plenty of attractions in each day, the all-inclusive card could save you over €100 in admission fees.
The Berlin Welcome Card 2023 benefits: activities and sights included
For the purposes of brevity, I will focus on the all-inclusive card as it includes everything that the standard card includes, plus a bit extra. If you plan on buying the standard card, just ignore the first section about free entry to attractions.

To compare prices, a Berlin travel card day ticket without the Welcome Card costs 8,80 EUR for Zone AB and 10 EUR for Zone ABC. This entitles you to unlimited access to all of Berlin’s public transport within the designated zone.
If you are not planning on entering any of Berlin’s attractions and just want to wander around the city (which is also fun), buying public transport day tickets is more economical. However, once you throw a few museums into the mix, the Welcome Card starts to make a difference.
Take note that with the all-inclusive card, you also get access to the hop-on-hop-off bus tour, which is a fun and easy way to get an overview of the city.

Your itinerary for a two-day trip could look a little something like this:
- Morning – Berlin Dungeon
- Afternoon – Berlin on Bike
- Evening – Berlin Television Tower
- Morning – German Spy Museum
- Afternoon – The Wall Museum
- Evening – Komische Opera House
That’s three activities each day, making for a fun-filled but not over-packed weekend break. You will, of course, be able to take public transport between all of the destinations. Now, is the Berlin Card worth it?
Let’s do the maths. If you go all out and buy the all-inclusive Welcome Card, your savings will be as follows:
On day one, you will only pay for the TV Tower (20 EUR- 25%, which will be 15 EUR), and on day two, it will be free apart from the opera ticket, which will be discounted by 25%. Tickets are usually around 50 EUR for the opera, so after the discount, it will be around 37,50 EUR. So both days will cost 141,50 EUR (89 for the 48h all-inclusive card, 15 for the TV tower, and 37,50 for the discounted opera ticket).
With the classic Welcome Card, the price will be 58,70 EUR for day one, 55,90 EUR for day two, and 23 EUR for the Welcome Card. This totals 137,60 EUR for the weekend.
Without either of the cards, the total will be 59,50 EUR for day one, 74,50 EUR for day two, and 14 EUR for a day travel ticket for each day. This comes to 148 EUR for the weekend.
As you can see, you can save around 6 EUR with the all-inclusive card in this situation. Remember, that doesn’t include discounts you can enjoy if you eat in the restaurants mentioned above (I haven’t included them in the itinerary as everyone will spend different amounts on meals, so it is hard to judge what kind of saving you could have).
Of course, this is just a sample itinerary. You could save even more if you plan your days carefully and cover four or even five activities in a day. How much you save is ultimately in your hands once you buy the card.
While the card is predominantly aimed at tourists, there is nothing to stop someone living in Berlin from purchasing one. There is something rather charming about being a tourist in your own city for a day or two.
You should also ask yourself if you ever plan to return to Berlin. For Europeans, getting to Berlin is easy, and the likelihood of a return trip is pretty high. This means you don’t need to cram everything in one go. If you’re coming from further afield, like the USA or Australia, you might only have one opportunity to experience Berlin. In this case, you will probably want to grab yourself a Welcome Card so you can really make the most of your time there.
How to choose the best Berlin Welcome Card for you?
For the All-Inclusive Berlin Welcome Card and Berlin Museum Card, the prices are as follows:
Adult with public transport Berlin travel pass:
- Berlin Welcome Card 48 hours: 89 EUR
- Berlin Welcome Card 72 hours: 109 EUR
- Berlin Welcome Card 4 days: 129 EUR
- Berlin Welcome Card5 days: 149 EUR
- Berlin Welcome Card 6 days: 169 EUR
Adult without public transport:
- 48h: 79 EUR
- 72h: 95 EUR
- 4 days: 105 EUR
- 5 days: 119 EUR
- 6 days: 139 EUR
- 48h: 55 EUR
- 72h: 59 EUR
- 4 days: 69 EUR
- 5 days: 75 EUR
- 6 days: 79 EUR (note that children’s tickets do not include public transport as up to three children may travel for free with an adult)
For the classic Berlin Welcome Card, the prices are as follows:
- 48h: 25 EUR
- 72h: 35 EUR
- 72h + Museum Island Card: 53 EUR
- 4 days: 43 EUR
- 5 days: 48 EUR
- 6 days: 53 EUR
- 48h: 30 EUR
- 72h: 40 EUR
- 72h + Museum Island Card: 56 EUR
- 4 days: 47 EUR
- 5 days: 52 EUR
- 6 days: 56 EUR
If you want to get your culture fix but don’t have the budget to splash out on the all-inclusive card, opt for the 72h + Museum Island card. The Museum Island card lets you see the city and some of its top attractions without breaking the bank.
Bear in mind that you don’t need to purchase a card for the whole duration of your trip. If you have a week in Berlin, you could buy the 48h card and spend two days rushing around sightseeing and the rest of your journey chilling and being more leisurely. The choice is yours.
However, if you would prefer to purchase your Welcome Card in person, they are available in all the Berlin tourist information centers, big hotels, and public transport stations throughout the city. You can also purchase them at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
Once you have bought your card, you will be given a plastic discount card and a separate public transport ticket. Simply write the date on the back of the plastic card and hand it over whenever you need to pay for something at any of the places listed above. It couldn’t be simpler.
Another important thing to remember is not to overbuy your ticket. In other words, if you are there for two and a half days, opt for the 48h option rather than the 72h option. Having less time with the card is better than paying for time you can’t use.
After your 48 hours runs out, there are still plenty of things to do in Berlin that are free or cheap, regardless of whether you have a Welcome card or not.

Public transport is included in the price of your EasyCityPass Berlin. This provides unlimited access to all of the city’s public transport for the duration of your pass in Zone AB or for a little extra – zones ABC. If you buy the zones ABC ticket, it even includes transport to and from the Schönefeld Airport and Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
Note that the pass covers up to three children aged 6-14 years for every adult pass purchased.
A day ticket for public transport costs:
- Zone AB: 8,80 EUR
- Zone ABC: 10 EUR
A 7-day public transport ticket alone costs:
- Zone AB: 36 EUR
- Zone ABC: 43 EUR
So say you were going to take the 6-day EasyCityPass Berlin for just 9 EUR more than you'd pay for a weekly Zone ABC public transport ticket. You'd have access to all the discounts mentioned above.
On the flip side, if your plan is to chill out and meander around the city with a bratwurst in hand, then the EasyCityPass Berlin is a waste of money. Everyone will have a different motivation for visiting Berlin, so think about what you want to get out of the city and let that determine whether or not you buy the EasyCityPass Berlin.
You can buy the EasyCityPass Berlin online or you can purchase it from one of these locations:
- All ticket machines and points of sale of the S-Bahn Berlin
- Schönefeld Airport: vending machines and points of sale of the S-Bahn Berlin
- Tegel Airport: DB ticket vending machines
- Central Station: vending machines and points of sale of the S-Bahn Berlin
You should also take logistics into account. Berlin is a fairly big city, so if there are a few attractions you want to see that are all in the same area, try to cover them all in one go. This will save you time going back and forth.
Now, for the crux of the entire article. With your Berlin trip looming, it is time to decide: which card do you buy, if any at all? Hopefully, my analysis of the two cards above has gone some way towards showing you which card might be for you, but I will do a little summary here to bring it all together.
EasyCityPass Berlin vs Welcome Card The Berlin Welcome Card has a few notable advantages. The first is that it offers a much more comprehensive range of discounts, in addition to the free entry that comes with the all-inclusive and Berlin Museum island pass. The second is that some of these discounts are available at restaurants, which could significantly reduce your trip's total price as you will most likely eat out two, if not three, times each day.
The third benefit of the Welcome Card is that you can choose the card's duration to fit with the length of your vacation. Berlin is generally considered a weekend, city break type of destination. If this is how you plan to visit the city, you will probably only have 48 hours there, meaning the 6-day EasyCityPass Berlin is too long and won’t be worth the money.
However, the EasyCityPass Berlin also has its advantages. While the list of perks is shorter, the pass itself is much cheaper and automatically includes public transport. If you plan to travel all over the city and maximize the use of public transport, you will get a lot of use out of the EasyCityPass Berlin.
Neither of the cards is cheap, and the amount you will save by purchasing one depends on how much you intend to do with it.
If you are going to Berlin for a weekend break or a longer period (5/6 days) and you think you will do some activities and will use public transport a lot, purchase the classic Berlin Welcome Card .
Alternatively, go for the 72h+ Museum Island Welcome Card. This gives you access to Berlin’s main five museums and public transport but is still very reasonably priced and doesn’t put you under pressure to visit a million attractions just to get your money’s worth.
If your plan is the same as above, but you think you will do loads of activities, then purchase the all-inclusive Berlin Welcome Card.
Finally, if all you want to do is sip a beer in the park and walk along the river, then don’t bother with either of the cards.
I hope that sums it all up nicely for you. Enjoy your trip!

Save with the Berlin Welcome Card and the Berlin City Tour Card
For a city with over 30 different kinds of public transportation tickets , having a single discount card for tourists was always going to be too simple. Berlin thus has two major official tourist discount passes: the Berlin Welcome Card and the Berlin City Tour Card. These two tourist discount passes are very similar and similarly priced but the slightly more expensive Berlin Welcome Card generally gives the best value.
Both standard Berlin discount cards include unlimited use of public transportation and give discounts to various sights, restaurants, tours, and entertainment. Both cards are available with validities of 48 hours, 72 hours, or four to six days. (Note that the four to six days cards expire at midnight on the final day, irrespective of what hour it was originally validated.)
Both discount cards may be bought with transportation for either zone AB or ABC (or without transportation being included). The ABC card is sometimes referred to as Berlin-Potsdam as it includes transportation to and discounts on sights in Potsdam and Oranienburg , as well as transportation to Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER).
The Berlin Welcome Card (72h and 6 days) and 24-hour City Card are also available as a basic option without transportation included.
The Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive is much more expensive but an excellent choice for especially first-time visitors as many very expensive sights are covered in full. See Save with the Berlin Welcome Card All-Inclusive for more details.
Families Save with the Discount Cards in Berlin
In contrast to previous policy, families may now save with both the AB and ABC zone cards. Up to three children aged 6 to 14 may travel for free with an adult using a Berlin Welcome Card. Discounts are also applied for these children at many sights.
Children under six (as well as one dog per cardholder) travel for free with any adult tickets on Berlin public transportation.
Differences between the Berlin Welcome and City Tour Cards
The main differences between the Berlin City Tour Card and the Berlin Welcome Card are that the Welcome Card gives discounts to over 180 partners and the City Tour Card at just over 70. The Welcome Card comes with a 150-page guidebook while the City Tour Card comes with a fold-out brochure and map. Anyone may download the Welcome Card booklet for free and it is worth doing even if not buying the card itself.
The standard Welcome Card is marginally more expensive than the City Tour Card but is valid at many more attractions and often gives bigger discounts. Most visitors will probably find the best deal by using the Berlin Welcome Card, although the discounts offered by the City Tour Card are probably of more interest to younger travelers.
The special and very popular Berlin Welcome Card Museum Insel is valid for 72 hours and adds admission to the state museums on Museum Island . (Free time-slot reservations are still required for visiting the Neues Museum and Pergamon Panorama (The Pergamonmuseum itself is closed until at least 2027.)
Buying the Berlin City Tour Card & Berlin Welcome Card
The Berlin City Tour Card with a foldout brochure and map is available from BVG (Berlin bus) and S-Bahn ticket offices as well as around 300 hotels in Berlin. If the ticket is bought from vending machines or from bus drivers, the brochure can be collected later from a BVG or S-Bahn ticket office. It is also sold online but must usually be exchanged in Berlin for a paper ticket, or request an email a print-at-home option.
The Berlin Welcome Card is generally available from the same venues as well as from the Berlin Tourist Information Offices and DB German Railways ticket windows. The five-day Berlin Welcome Card cannot be bought on buses or from vending machines. The cards are also sold online but a paper printout is usually required and not just a mobile phone screenshot.
The Welcome Card can conveniently also be bought on arrival in Berlin at:
- Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) from the Berlin Info Store (Ground Level, Europa Platz exit);
- Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER): Welcome Center tourist information office in Terminal 1, Level E0;
- Berlin Tourist Info Centers in the Humboldt Forum or at the Brandenburg Gate
Discounts Offered by the Berlin Welcome & City Tour Cards
The largest portions of the price of these tourist passes are for public transportation. However, further savings can be significant too. Discounts of at least 25% are given on admission ticket prices at many museums including the DDR , German History, German Technology, Wall, and Berlin Jewish Museum.
Discount pass holders generally also save at least 25% on city sightseeing bus tours of Berlin and cruises on the Spree River and other Berlin waterways. Similar discounts are granted to most walking and cycling tours including the very popular English Berlin Walks and Berlin on Bike tours. The biggest single discounts are for theatre shows but it may be difficult to actually cash in on these discounts as the tickets may usually only be bought on the same day or a few days in advance.
The Berlin Welcome Card and City Tour Card are generally good value for money. The difference between two standard Berlin public transportation day tickets and the 48h tourist discount cards can easily be made up by the savings offered on a single admission to Madame Tussauds Berlin, or a visit to two or three other museums. See also Tips on Public Transportation Tickets in Berlin for more ideas on how to use the buses and trains in Berlin as well as suggested bus routes that pass by Berlin’s top sights.

The Berlin Welcome Card includes a travel ticket for the public transport service (such as bus & rail) and the Berlin Welcome Card guide . The Berlin Welcome Card is available as an online ticket and a printed ticket by mail or as a voucher . When purchasing the Welcome Card, each visitor will also receive the practical Berlin Welcome Card guide. One guide is sufficient per group (maximum 4 people), another guide is needed for each additional person.
Upon presentation of the ticket and the guide, visitors will receive the respective discounts & rebates. When purchasing the Berlin Welcome Card including Museum Island, the visitor gets once-daily free access to the museums on Berlin’s Museum Island (special exhibitions are excluded) during the period of validity.
The printed tickets are valid for the purchased ticket period (48h, 72h or 4, 5, 6 days). Online tickets do not have to be separately validated before being used for the first time . Their period of validity depends on the specified travel date and the time on the online ticket. As regards tickets for 4, 5 or 6 days, the Berlin Welcome Card expires on the last day of validity at 12am.
The Berlin Welcome Card is available as a public transportation ticket with discounts on numerous partners:
- Berlin (fare zone Berlin AB, valid for one adult and up to 3 children between the ages of 6 and up to and including 14 years old)
- Berlin+Potsdam (fare zone Berlin ABC, valid for one adult and up to 3 children between the ages of 6 and up to and including 14 years old)

Important : for journeys from/to Berlin-Brandenburg BER Airport, you will need a Berlin Welcome Card for the zone ABC. Unfortunately, an extension of the Berlin Welcome Card AB to include a connection ticket for tariff zone C is not possible.
Any number of children up to their 6th birthday can travel free with all types of Berlin Welcome Card. What’s more, up to 3 children between the ages of 6 and 14 can also travel free on their parents’ ticket or when accompanying an adult. Prams, luggage and one dog can also travel free of charge. A reduced-fare travel ticket is required for each additional dog. You need an additional bicycle ticket if you want to take your bike.
Before your arrival in Berlin As an online ticket, ticket voucher or physical ticket in our online shop
On-site At Berlin tourist information centres, many Berlin hotels as well as at sales outlets and public transport companies' tickets machines (S-Bahn Berlin GmbH and BVG). You can also get the Berlin Welcome Card directly upon arrival in the arrivals area at the Berlin airports. You can then get the associated guide at the Berlin tourist information centres as well as at BVG and S-Bahn sales outlets.
The sections A and B each cover the actual urban area, whereby the outer limit of section B is largely identical to the city limits. Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) is located in fare zone Berlin C . For this reason, tourists arriving at the Berlin-Brandenburg airport needs the Berlin Welcome Card for the fare zone ABC in order to have unrestricted use of public transport. Section C extends – measured from the city limits – up to a distance of 10 to 15 km into the surrounding areas. Exceptions here are tourist and special lines and journeys with Deutsche Bahn. Unfortunately, an extension of the Berlin Welcome Card AB to a connection ticket for tariff zone Berlin C is not possible.
Visitors to Berlin who want to travel to Potsdam or Sachsenhausen need the Berlin Welcome Card for fare zone ABC in order to use the public transport service without any restrictions. An extension of the Berlin Welcome Card AB to a connection ticket for tariff zone C is unfortunately not possible.
It is possible to validate the card up to 31/12 of the calendar year in which the purchase was made. However, the latest period of validity is up to 02/01 (48-hour ticket) or 03/01 (72-hour ticket) or 03/01 at midnight (4-day ticket) or 04/01 at midnight (5-day ticket) or 05/01 at midnight (6-day ticket) of the following year.
The public transport ticket must be validated once before starting the journey in the ticket validation machine . The discounts included in the guide are exclusively valid combined with your Berlin Welcome Card travel ticket and only after its validation.
The guide belongs to the Berlin Welcome Card and must always be presented when claiming discounts. You will receive the guide upon presentation of your Berlin Welcome Card ticket (from the machines) at Berlin tourist information centres as well as at BVG and S-Bahn sales outlets. The guide is also available as a downloadable version .

If you’re planning a trip to Berlin, you might have come across the terms “Berlin City Tour Card” and “Welcome Card.” These cards are popular among visitors because they offer a convenient and cost-effective way to explore the city’s attractions, museums, and public transportation system. In this guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about these cards and how they can enhance your Berlin experience.
What is the Berlin City Tour Card?
The Berlin City Tour Card is a travel pass that provides unlimited access to public transport in Berlin, including buses, trams, U-Bahn, and S-Bahn trains, within specific zones. It also offers discounts to various attractions, museums, and restaurants in the city. The card is available for different durations, ranging from 48 hours to 6 days, allowing you to choose the option that best fits your itinerary.
What is the Berlin Welcome Card?
Similar to the City Tour Card, the Berlin Welcome Card also includes unlimited travel on public transport within specific zones. Additionally, it offers discounts at more attractions, museums, and restaurants compared to the City Tour Card. The Welcome Card is available in durations of 48 hours, 72 hours, 4 days, 5 days, and 6 days, giving you flexibility in planning your sightseeing activities.
Which Card Should You Choose?
The choice between the City Tour Card and the Welcome Card depends on your preferences and itinerary. If you’re mainly interested in visiting the major landmarks and using public transportation, the City Tour Card is a great choice. However, if you plan to explore many attractions and visit museums during your stay, the Welcome Card provides more extensive discounts, making it a better option for you. Assess your needs and itinerary to make an informed decision.
Benefits of the Berlin City Tour Card
- Unlimited travel on public transportation within specific zones.
- Discounts at selected attractions, museums, and restaurants.
- Free city map and guidebook.
- Flexibility to choose different durations.
- No need to purchase individual tickets for public transport.
Benefits of the Berlin Welcome Card
- More extensive discounts at attractions, museums, and restaurants.

- Additional discounts on tours and cruises.
How to Use the Cards
Using both the City Tour Card and the Welcome Card is straightforward. When you receive the card, make sure to fill out the details on the back, such as your name and the date of activation. You can activate the card by simply validating it on your first journey via a ticket machine or at a ticket counter in a station.
Once activated, the card is valid for the chosen duration. To use public transportation, show your card to the ticket inspectors when requested. For attractions and discounts, present your card at the entrance or while making a reservation to avail the discounted rates. Always check the partner establishments’ terms and conditions to ensure you’re eligible for the discounts.
Where to Get the Cards
Both the City Tour Card and the Welcome Card can be purchased online in advance or at various sales points throughout the city. These include airports, train stations, tourist information centers, and some hotels. Buying online allows you to skip the queues and have the card ready when you arrive in Berlin, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
The Berlin City Tour Card and Welcome Card are excellent choices for visitors who want to explore Berlin with ease and save money on transportation and attractions. Assess your needs and itinerary to determine which card suits you best. Don’t forget to take advantage of the discounts and benefits these cards offer to make the most of your trip to this vibrant capital city.
