Whether you’re a new paddler or have been SUPing for years, the Bluefin Cruise Lite paddle board is perfect for all abilities. But what makes this board so likeable is how compact and lightweight it is (35% lighter than all of Bluefin’s other paddleboards, in fact). Plus, everything you could possibly need comes packaged in a waterproof, roll-down backpack, so it’s ideal for taking on your outdoor adventures, near or far. But does it make the cut as one of the best inflatable paddle boards on the market? Read on to find out.

Bluefin Cruise Lite review: Design and features

The Bluefin Cruise Lite is available in two sizes: 11’4” or 10”, for this review I tested out the 11’4”. You can’t purchase the board separately, which is why I think it’s particularly ideal if you’re new to SUPing and are after the entire kit, or, if you love going on adventures and are in need of something compact.

I loved that everything I could possibly need for my SUP experience came neatly packaged in a waterproof wet bag – including the board, pump, paddle, fin and safety leash. Weighing just 12.2kg, it was very easy to carry and made all the more comfortable by the padded straps. Plus, there’s a handle at the top so you can manoeuvre the bag around once you’ve found your perfect paddling spot. The bag isn’t crammed full either, so there’s definitely some spare room for a couple of sandwiches and drinks.

More than half of the board is covered in non-slip croco-diamond material for enhanced grip, which I really liked and think is beneficial for any type of paddler, particularly newbies who may be feeling a little less confident. Other standout features include patent-pending reflective D-ring mounts to improve visibility on the water, the fixed camera mount at the front of the board and the extra-long bungee cords to keep your belongings securely in place while cruising.

Bluefin Cruise Lite review: inflation and set up

The Bluefin Cruise Lite took a total of 30 minutes to set-up. This time probably would’ve been even quicker, but I did experience a couple of niggles along the way.

There weren’t any instructions for setting up the board, but this wasn’t a big deal as everything was pretty straight forward (e.g. putting the pump together and attaching it to the valve). Blowing up the board itself was easy, too, and I think it’s really useful that around the valve, Bluefin has written what PSI you should pump the board up too, so you’re not left questioning whether you’ve done it enough.

As the board is very light and has a neoprene handle on the side, it was easy to flip over to attach the fin. Although, this is where I encountered the second niggle and instructions at this point could have been useful, as attaching the fin wasn’t as straightforward as I’d imagined. Slotting it into place was easy enough, but there’s a small screw that you also need to twist into it to secure it. Once this was done, there were no problems at all, but without instructions, it ate into my set-up time.

The paddle comes with different numbers on, so you just attach the pieces together accordingly. The safety leash I’d been given wasn’t a coiled one, as shown in the picture online. Instead, you had a bum bag with a clip inside and a very long piece of rope. On one end was a clip to attach to your paddle board, but you had to tie the other end in a knot around the clip in the bum bag. I personally didn’t like this, and if you’re not good at tying knots, then it’s pretty pointless.

Bluefin Cruise Lite review: out on the water

I took the Cruise Lite out for a paddle on the canal. Lifting it into the water presented no problems as it’s so light. The water was calm, so I expected to be speeding along, although I was surprised by just how quickly this paddle board moves. This may be down to its ultra light paddle, made from fibreglass and polyurethane, which is a lot lighter than aluminium paddles. The nose of the board hovers just out of the water also, so that it can swiftly change direction (which it does).

As previously mentioned, more than half of this board is covered with grip, which really helps you feel stable and confident on it. Although I didn’t stand up (due to having a bad back) I was very comfortable on my knees and I think the board is wide enough to give beginner SUPers that little extra confidence to stand. However, the 10' Cruise Lite may be an even better option as it's slightly wider.

In terms of using it on the sea, I’d feel more than confident doing this, as the board is very sturdy and, even though the water would be choppier, you’ve got all that additional grip on the board to prevent you from slipping and sliding all over the place.

Bluefin Cruise Lite review: verdict

I think the Cruise Lite is a fantastic inflatable paddleboard for beginners , as it comes with everything you need to get you going on the water, as well as experienced SUPers. If you're someone who likes to take water sports equipment with you when you travel or like heading out on outdoor adventurers, this is exactly what the Cruise Lite is for, as it's so compact and lightweight.

As well as being pretty straightforward to inflate, it's even easier to deflate, and you won't have any trouble packing it away either (the key here is to roll up the paddleboard as it'll leave plenty of room to slot everything else around it). It's not the cheapest beginner SUP, but I think the Cruise Lite is excellent quality and is worth the price. I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere with me.

Bluefin Cruise Lite review: also consider

In terms of price, the Cruise Lite 11'4' is slightly more expensive than some of the other paddleboards we've reviewed, such as the Two Bare Feet's Entradia 10'10' paddleboard, but is still significantly cheaper than the Red Paddle Ride MSL .

BLUEFIN CRUISE LITE 10’0 TEST REVIEW

  • Brand Channels

The Cruise Lite delivers surprises on and off the water. This ingenious little compact board can turn its hand to surfing your local beach, day touring or fitness paddles. At 10’0 x 30” x 5”, it will suit most adults and be especially useful for younger riders since it weights so little! The Cruise Lite packs down very small, has a clean, glossy look and feels lively on the water.

Cruise_Lite-10_Annotated_Images_EN-01 copy 2

Unpacking the Cruise Lite was a real surprise. At just 7.2 kg, it’s a very light board. This is made possible due to the single-layer drop-stitch construction and reinforcing stringer. The Cruise Lite is also very compact, thanks to the split EVA deck pad and flexible US centre fin box. The material itself feels supple and has a nice lustre to it; of course it rolls up tightly without crinkles and creases.

This board has three strong carry handles at the nose, midpoint, and over the tail. This gives great portage and towing options, big tick. The cargo bungee is sleek and can be quickly unclipped (for surfing). You also get a camera-mount on the nose and a handy reflective D-ring behind the bungee for clipping valuable items or securing a tow line.

This is a comprehensive package with pump, compact backpack, 5-piece carbon paddle, leash and touring fin.

Brand Claim

Our lightest board to date. Designed by industry specialists for a SUP that is light as well as robust and flexible. Perfectly suited to all your adventures. The Bluefin Cruise Lite SUP package, weighing just 13.6kg, includes a high-quality board, a five-piece carbon fibre paddle, a Swift mini pump, a waterproof bag, and a unique touring standard SUP fin, promoting enhanced paddling speed and distance. Ideal for travellers and adventurers due to its lightweight and compact design, it employs a 5” drop stitch core and light accessories for effortless carriage. It’s especially suitable for families and varying skill levels, ensuring stable and manageable paddling with its all-rounder hull shape and full-length deck pad, while prioritizing safety with reflective D-ring mounts and an included ankle leash.

Performance

The Cruise Lite carries a more ‘surfey’ template than a standard all-rounder; it shows a bit more sweep in the nose and a squared off tail. With the 5” rail thickness (compared to ubiquitous 6”) this makes the Cruise Lite good fun for hopping onto some rolling beach break swells.

This board feels nimble on the water and holds is composure nicely thanks to the encircling stringers. It will take a maximum 28 psi but we found 15 psi to be perfectly adequate. With a maximum payload of 125 kg, the Cruise Lite will float most adults nicely but as we found, it’s also a great board for kids. The light weight, lower ride height and slightly smaller dims than a regular all-rounder make it less intimidating for smaller riders off and on the water.

The Cruise Lite is a featherweight at 7.2 kg. This makes a big difference in the day-to-day practicalities of loading it into or onto the car or carrying it up the beach and really reduces the chore factor of paddling. Another plus point for families with kids!

Bluefin’s shiney, compact and nimble Cruise Lite was a real surprise and the entire package is currently available for around £449 on their website.

Loved & Trusted By Thousands

This thing is really stable

This thing is really stable also. I was able to teach my lab puppy to ride on it with me. Took a little balancing on both our parts, and trust me, we got wet a few times, but it is my first ISUP, so that’s part of the fun learning process. If you are on the fence about getting one of these, I say don’t hesitate. I am very impressed with it so far.

This board was worth it

This board was worth it. Everyone loved it and had so much fun. It was easy to manage on the water and very durable for many different sizes of people. Great inflatable board!

Pleasantly surprised

This was easy to set up. The kids set it up easily and we're out on the water in no time we didn't need to refill it in the 5 days it was used and that is with multiple uses. I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised with this purchase. It was also easy to deflate and store back in the bag it came in.

I love this SUP!

I love this SUP! A friend of mine had one and I loved the look of it so much that I bought one for myself. It also happens to be incredibly sturdy, super light, and easy to paddle standing up or sitting down, I use it for both. Great investment!

Well worth the money.

The board is lightweight enough I can carry it with no problem. My husband and I are beginners to SUP and this is a great board for open water. Inflates fairly quickly with an electric pump (a must-have) well worth the money.

Very pleased with the product

I purchased this for my husband and he has just had it a week now but has been out a few times and so far is very pleased with the product.

I recommend this 100%

This product is wonderful, I and my family use this paddle board quite often and we have no complaints. This paddle board is very stable and easy to carry around. It is wonderful to go out on the lake with this product. I recommend this 100% to everyone.

Francis Laird

Very stable

I’ve taken my board out on the river and lakes. Very stable, so much fun and easy to pack up and go! Love it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cruise Lite Range comes in sizes 10' and 11'4. If you're a solo paddler who is under 6ft and weighs under 125kg the 10' would be best suited for you. On the other hand if you or you and your crew weigh over 125kg the 11'4 would bebest suited. If you want friends or SUP Pups to join you on the water the 11'4 would be the best choice.

The Cruise Lite range has been designed for both still lakes and sea waves. Its construction is made up of single layer drop stitch, and can be used on still lakes or sea waves. Compared to the carbon range the Cruise Lite SUPs won't preform best on choppy waters due to their lighter construction. Just make sure you have your lifetjacket and safety leash attached whenever you get on the water.

The Cruise Lite package is over 35% lighter than our Cruise range, to achieve this the board has been designed with a single layer woven dropsitich. Without compromising the Lite range still maintains Bluefins high quality materials and design and can support a user weight of up to 150kg.

Bluefin Cruise Paddleboard Review (2024)

Bluefin Cruise Review New

The new Bluefin Cruise is a tidy update of its predecessor that we reviewed last year. With its award-winning design, the Cruise continues to be a perfect all-round beginner board and at £599, we think it’s a worthwhile investment.

Bluefin have worked hard to update the Cruise range, with the most notable change being the aesthetics of the new design . Bluefin have taken a huge leap in this department, launching 6 new colourways which are far more exciting than the previous model. We opted to try the Gecko Blue which looked great against the water and really popped. There’s a cool logo print across the board featuring a triangle and paddle, which we loved – kudos to the design team on this one!

Along with how the board looks, t he new model is 10% lighter and although we didn’t get this SUP on our bathroom scales, we really felt the difference when it came to carrying and manoeuvring the board. It makes everything that little bit easier including packing up and storage.

The new Cruise again comes with all the accessories you need to get straight out onto the water, including your paddle, carry bag, pump and waterproof mobile phone case. The new range doesn’t come with the kayak seat and extra paddle blade conversion like previous models, but we don’t see this as a deal breaker and think the improvements in design and build offset the additional extras. We definitely prefer updates to build quality over free extras we might not use! There have been some great updates to those accessories included , so please read on below to get more information on these.

The 10’8 Cruise is available from £359.99 – View boards on Bluefin’s website >

Bluefin Cruise 10'8 Review

Table of Contents

Who is the board for?

The Bluefin Cruise is for the keen beginner who wants a great all-rounder that will last them years. It’s more of an investment than other boards on the market, like the Wave Tourer , but you’re getting a far superior board in terms of quality.

If you just want to use a paddleboard for the odd summer weekend with friends, then you can probably get by with a cheaper brand. But if are serious about getting into the sport and plan to use the board regularly, then you need to buy one that can withstand constant inflation, deflation, getting dragged on stones and hot cars in the summer.

When you order the Bluefin, it comes with everything needed right out the box. It’s already packed neatly away in the carry bag, so you can literally take it out of the box and head straight to the beach.

So this board is the perfect first-time inflatable paddleboard purchase for beginners.

However, like most all-rounders, it’s ok at everything but great at nothing so you will outgrow this board at some point, this is when you decide if you want a tourer, race or wave SUP. If you’re already at a more experienced level, then I’d recommend looking at something a little more exciting, like the Bluefin Rouge Tourer.

Bluefin Cruise 10’8

I’m 85kg and 6’2ish and found the 10’8 easy to use. The 10’8, which is the length of the board, is the classic beginner size because it’s stable enough for most beginners, but manoeuvrable so you can practice turning with ease.

On Bluefin’s website, they say anyone under 6′ & below 85kg should be fine for the 10’8, and that’s probably about right.

Bluefin’s recommendation is not too far off the truth, and I’d say any beginner over 90kgs might want to consider the 12’, which has a lot more buoyancy.

  • Length: 324cm
  • Width: 82cm
  • Thickness: 16cm
  • Recommended rider weight: – 85kg

Bluefin Cruise 12’

Whilst the 10’8 is fairly manoeuvrable, the 12’ is better at tracking (going in a straight line), which makes it more enjoyable for longer distances. This is the inherent benefit of a longer paddleboard, the more rail (side of the board) in the water, the greater the resistance and the more likely the board is to glide in a straight line.

If you are a nervous beginner, weigh over 90kgs or want a board that glides nicely, then it’s probably worth getting the 12’.

The 12’ is the same width as the 10’8, so although the board can carry more weight, it feels very similar in terms of side-to-side wobbliness. Yes, that’s a non-technical term but hopefully that makes sense! So it’ll be wrong to think the 12’ is much more stable.

Another reason to buy the 12’ is if you are planning on using this as the family board. If you’re likely to have a little one sitting on the front or multiple children splashing around on the board at one time, you will have far more fun with the 12’.

Bluefin Cruise Testing

Company overview

Bluefin is a UK based company, with its HQ in West Yorkshire. They are a trading company who are doing very well at sourcing great products, from fitness equipment to hoverboards and paddleboards. They sell their products directly on various websites they run, which means they can sell for a lower cost as they don’t have to pass any margin onto the retailer middle man.

Bluefin launched their first paddleboard in 2018 (This surprised me a little because it feels like they’ve been around for longer). You can see on their website that even within the first year their Cruise model went through 3 different versions, which shows their commitment to continual improvement of their products. They are currently at version 7 of the Cruise.

What I admire about Bluefin is their drive to make the best equipment possible that will last, all for a reasonable price. They have not cut corners on materials and their 5-year warranty is just outstanding.

The warranty shows that Bluefin is really confident its product is well made and can last. I love this mentality because it shows Bluefin care about the customers’ experience, plus it’s better for the planet not to have plastic paddleboards thrown in the bin because they aren’t well made.

Detailed UK Bluefin Cruise review

We tested the Bluefin Cruise on a stunning July morning in Emsworth, Chichester Harbour. The wind was very light and perfect for paddleboarding.

A design feature of any board that helps with stability is the width, especially across the midpoint of the board where you stand. A wider board will feel more stable than a narrower board.

The payoff for a board that is very wide is that it won’t ‘cut’ through the water and will feel like a barge, slow and unresponsive. On top of that something that is too easy to use means that you won’t progress your technique which helps with balance and board control.

Both the 10’8 and 12ft Bluefin Cruise are 82cm wide, which is pretty normal for an all-round beginner board. I like that Bluefin didn’t make the 12ft wider, because it would really affect its performance on the water and wouldn’t be fun to use.

The only downside of the Bluefin Cruise, which is the same for all 6-inch thick rail boards, is any wind or chop that hits the side can unsettle it very quickly. The sheer surface area of the rail means a strong gust can push the board off course, or a bit of awkward side chop can make it feel rather wobbly for a second or 2.

By ‘glide’ we mean how does the board feel cruising in a straight line. Some boards will feel sluggish, whilst others effortlessly fly through the water. With a few hard paddle strokes, some boards will veer off course but others will be able to track well and stay going in a straight line.

I think glide is important to know when choosing a paddleboard, especially if it’s your first purchase. You’ll want a board that does a good job paddling in a straight line because probably your goal as a beginner is to try to get from A to B without any issues.

This of course changes if you want to get into SUP surfing, then you’ll want a board that is small and very manoeuvrable, which means it won’t glide at all well.

I found the Bluefin Cruise, especially the 12ft, tracks nicely through the water. I could put in some aggressive paddle strokes but the board kept its course well. Being able to put a huge amount of PSI into the board helps with glide, this extra rigidity allows the board to cut through the water and doesn’t flop and wobble around at all.

Construction

Bluefin continues to stand out with the construction and development of their iSUPs.

They use ESL (Exo Surface Laminate) technology, which gives the board its rigidity and durability and is key to the Bluefin design. As a quick overview, ESL PVC is the layering of materials that forms the board. Bluefin build boards with layers of PVC to provide strength, unlike cheaper boards which only have one layer. Although this makes the Bluefin boards slightly heavier than your average beginner iSUP, you get a more resilient construction and are less likely to suffer from a bendy banana board! The top layer of PVC is UV resistant too, protecting the board from degradation through sun damage.

The board is also reinforced with a 1000 denier drop stitch, which are the internal threads holding the top and bottom of the sup together. This reinforced stitch is the densest on the market, giving the bluefin more credentials on the build design of their boards.

I’ve seen a fair few posts on Facebook groups with people saying ‘the Bluefin Cruise is heavy’ . Although they’ve made it lighter, you know why it’s heavier than other similarly priced boards. Bluefin has used double the amount of materials to build their boards, so it’s no surprise they weigh a little more.

Bluefin Cruise Paddle

Board features

Along with the super solid construction, Bluefin has added some nice features to its board that makes it stand out from similarly priced competitors.

The kickpad is the raised piece of foam on the deck near the tail (back) of the board.  You can wedge your foot against it when trying the more advanced step back turns, which Bluefin say on the website is a quicker way to turn around.

There are a few reasons the kickpad is a useful addition. Having this raised gives you more confidence that you aren’t going to slip off the back of the board when doing the step back down. It also help give you a point of reference for where your foot should go, so instead of having to look back and down at where your feet are, which can make you unbalanced, you can just feel it instead.

The ability to pump up the Bluefin to high pressure and the rigidity that comes with it means the Kickpad is a welcomed feature that can actually be used. Many cheaper inflatable models add a kickpad, but you cant use the thing for step back turns because the board just isn’t rigid enough. So when you try to raise the nose out of the water the board just wobbles and flops around. This isn’t the case with the Bluefin Cruise.

Action camera mount

The new design now features 3 camera mounts, one at the nose and two on the cargo handles, making it easier for you to get the perfect shot when you’re out on the water. You could always use multiple cameras at once if you were really going for it!

If you attach the camera to face you, it becomes a great training tool that will record your technique and body position. We think filming yourself is one of the best ways to improve, because you can really break down what you’re doing and what’s going wrong. You’ll be surprised that most of the time you aren’t bending your knees as much as you thought you were or reaching as far forward as you could for that paddle stroke.

Kayak D rings

The kayak D ring adds another dimension to this package and will enable you and your family/friends to have even more fun on the water. Bluefin knows exactly who will be buying and using this board and fully know you aren’t a committed, professional paddleboarder… yet.

They also know you’re likely to take this board to the beach where others will want to play on it. If it’s slightly choppy and the sea breeze kicks in, add the kayak seat and you can still have a great time on the water.

On this Cruise version, Bluefin have added a bonus safety feature by making the D rings reflective. This is a small but fantastic addition, and we’d like to see more of this on future ranges, particularly as it’s not detrimental to the aesthetics of the board.

Bluefin Cruise in the box

Accessories

Two great updates to the pump for this model:

  • Dual action – this time we were able to use the pump to deflate the board as well as inflate it. Hurrah for this Bluefin!
  • Detachable handle and feet – one of the most difficult parts of using an inflatable paddleboard has to be putting everything back in the bag. Being able to remove the handle and feet make it that bit easier to put away.

Their electric pump was easy and simple to use, and helped get the board started whilst I was faffing around getting changed. It’s not the most powerful electric pump but did OK.

The carry bag is big and comfy to wear with plenty of space to pack everything away. It has some internal straps to support the SUP and a front pocket for smaller items like the fins which is really handy.

Only thing we’d like to add would be some wheels, so we had the option to pull as well as carry.

We were super impressed with the paddle in this package as it’s really developed from the previous range; the paddle is still fibreglass but is much lighter and more dynamic than before.

It feels high quality and is far from the thick, dense paddles you’d typically get in a beginner sup package and more like an expensive carbon model. It seemed to perform better too, with less bend than the previous version. The new black blue design also looks more expensive.

The three-piece paddle is easy to assemble and disassemble, with little logos to guide you along the way and a handy height guide for adjusting the length correctly. You can get an extra blade to convert to a kayak paddle, however this isn’t included in the package.

The coiled ankle leash is comfortable and perfect for the style of paddleboarding you’ll do on the Bluefin.

Bluefin Cruise Review Bag Update

What I don’t like about the Cruise

In my last review , I commented on 2 things I disliked about the Bluefin, the way it looks and the fin mechanism. I’ll keep the fin mechanism in here, but I personally think the Bluefin Cruise range looks great now.

The fin mechanism

I asked my beginner friend about the fin mechanism and she loved it because it was so quick and simple to install. So maybe I’m being a bit harsh and this might be a little irrational but I don’t quite trust the fin box ‘Smart lock’ system.

I’m used to the screw in Powerbox, US or FCS fin systems that feel super secure and I have 100% confidence my fin isn’t going to fall out during the session.

Final comments

So are Bluefin Paddleboards any good? For the price, the Bluefin Cruise is a great value beginner paddleboard package that comes with everything you need to have a lot of fun on the water. Also have we mentioned that for every board purchased, Bluefin plant a tree? Great environmental credentials from this UK based business – it’s a thumbs up from us.

Keep your eyes peeled for offers on Bluefin’s website, I’ve seen them give a free electric sup pump or a free action camera with a paddleboard purchase.

Bluefin Cruise 10’8″ Review

  • Build: Inflatable
  • Skill: Beginner
  • Brand: Bluefin
  • Our score: 10 | Read our conclusion
  • This board can be used for:

The best all-around paddle board for beginners

The Bluefin Cruise 10’8″ is an amazing all-around inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board that comes in a very complete package where even a kayak seat and 2-in-1 fiberglass paddle are included. The board is very stiff and will last for ages, and the same goes for high-quality accessories . Next to the paddle and the seat the board includes a coiled leash , triple action pump , backpack , waterproof phone case and a repair kit . This is more than what you need to get started with paddle boarding . This board is a bargain that you should want to get your hands in before they start raising the price!

This year Bluefin released the new&improved Cruise 10’8,” and I was lucky enough to get one of the first boards to test. We have tested the two versions of these boards extensively, and you will see a lot of personal pictures of us on these two boards. The latest Bluefin Cruise 2023 version is the ORANGE SUP while the old Cruise version is in BLUE. In this review below, we will show you how we experienced these paddle boards.

This link below will take you to the old version:

The Bluefin Cruise is Most Suitable For:

This board is great for anyone who wants a versatile paddleboard that can handle a variety of conditions.

Want to know more? Check out my FULL REVIEW of the NEW Cruise ↓

The Bluefin Cruise is a very high-quality stand-up paddle board for a very competitive price that includes more than everything you need to go out for a great trip on the water. I have also tried the more luxurious version, the Bluefin Cruise Carbon before, which is perfect but more expensive and quite a bit heavier. That is why I think the Bluefin Cruise is the better board for beginners in paddle boarding. This board is all-around so it is suitable for basically every activity you are looking for on a Stand Up Paddle board. The board could be used for a maximum weight of 287 lbs / 130 kg , for the new version this has been updated to 150 kg / 331 lbs . But I honestly think that is underestimated and you could surely get on this board with two people that have my weight (about 80 kg).

Bluefin Cruise new

Although if you’re looking to go out on a tour or going out for paddling together, you should surely check out the 12′ version and the 15′ version of this board ! These offer all the same advantages and the complete package that this board also offers, but with increased stability for longer tours due to the longer board. There is even a children’s version of this board with the Bluefin Cruise Junior . Are you looking for a Stand Up Paddle Board for children to get started with SUP boarding? Then check out that board instead, as it is smaller and will be easier to control for younger children.

The board is very stable and has a size of 10’8″ long and 32.9″ wide . This is why the board is very suitable for beginners, it is less likely that you will fall off of your board. The thickness of 6.3″ supports this and makes sure the board does not bend in the middle.

As for speed, it is clearly not a racing board, but the shape of the board allows you to navigate through the waters quicker than with a completely rounded board.

This board offers amazing value for money and I can personally guarantee you that for this money you will not be able to get a better board. Bluefin offers an amazing 5 year warranty on all of their boards ! (only matched by Red Paddle ). They also offer 1 year manufacturing warranty on the included accessories.

So it is clear that the company itself also has a lot of faith in the product and that they are willing to back it up. If you are looking for an all-around inflatable stand up paddle board of high quality in a very complete package for a good price, this is your best choice by far!

Max Rider Weight

Max air pressure.

Primary use All Round / Relaxing / Yoga / Touring / Pets

Speed on the water The board is designed for every paddler with an all-around purpose, so speed is not the main focus. But because of the pointy nose it is possible to reach some higher speeds than the regular shaped all-around paddle boards.

Transport The NEW Cruise has a weight of 24 LBS / 10.9 kg and is not hard to carry in the supplied backpack with comfortable padded straps. This is about 5 lbs less than the old Cruise, which is commendable !

Stability The 32.9″ width makes the board more stable than an average 30″ width board, which is good for beginners to start on. The 6.3″ thickness and the sturdy material offer even more stability and support.

My experience with the old and new versions of the Cruise

I tested both the old&new Bluefin Cruise for a whole day and filmed it. Check it out to see what this awesome beast of a board has to offer 🤩

Want to compare the old version? Here’s the video when I tested the “old” Cruise:

I was very happy when I received the board and couldn’t wait to go out on the water. In these times when everyone is inside a lot, it is great to get out on the water for a bit. As you can see in the picture below, it was really quiet, and I had the whole lake to myself. Some peace & quiet away from the city always feels good.

Bluefin-Cruise-2021-Tom (9)

When unpacking the board, it felt like I was getting gifts over and over with all the included accessories, all of them of great quality. ( Small note to Bluefin, your packing is a bit too amazing, tone it down on the plastic wrappings ;-))

With the lastest 2023 version of the Cruise , what I find especially super is that you have a choice of colors . I have to say that I was blown away by the durability of this board as well ( but that’s nothing new with Bluefin boards ). The military-grade PVC construction held up like a champ. I took it out in some pretty rough water and bumped into a few rocks, but it didn’t even leave a scratch.

After I unpacked everything, I went on with inflating the Bluefin Cruise. It took me exactly 3.5 minutes to inflate this board to 18 PSI, which is really quick! I do have the video to prove it but I don’t reckon anyone is interested in a 3.5-minute video of me inflating a paddle board, so I will not bother you with that.

The Bluefin Cruise was easy to carry to the water, and it felt super stable, and it was easy to paddle. As I tested the Bluefin Cruise on the same day that I tested the Bluefin Cruise Carbon it was good to see the differences between the models. The Bluefin Cruise is easier to carry than the Carbon, but the light paddle of the Carbon felt better than the fiberglass paddle of the “normal” Cruise.

For this price, a fiberglass paddle is perfect, though, and a thousand times better than an aluminum paddle. Maybe I am just getting a bit spoiled after getting used to the fancy Carbon version 😉

Compare Bluefin Boards to Make the Best Choice ↓

Compared to the new Carbon , the Bluefin Cruise, both old and the new version of 2023, have only one bungee cord system in the front, whereas the new Carbon has bungee cords in the front and back. I did not take that many supplies this time, and one bungee cord for a big waterproof backpack is more than enough, to be honest.

Bluefin-Cruise-2021-Tom (6)

The croco-diamond grip deck feels great and I never felt like losing my grip while paddling. It does not only feel great, but it also looks really cool with the look of crocodile skin (hence the name).

The kick pad on the back allows you to lean back a bit and lift up the front to make those sharper turns. I did not fall in the water ( surely I must be a pro ) so I don’t know how this would be with a wet board, but I trust the grip would still be wonderful.

Bluefin Cruise new

It is nice and relaxing to tour around on this board, but I also managed to build up quite a bit of speed by paddling hard. The size is maybe not perfect for speed, but the pointy front of the board helps to cut through the water quicker than with a rounded board.

The three-fin system made sure I stayed in a straight line when paddling at higher speeds.

Bluefin Cruise new

The Old Bluefin Cruise Comes With a Kayak Seat 🙌🏻

Besides the normal paddling, I have even tried sitting down and kayaking on this board , which felt very relaxing.

The option to sit down and have some back support ( with my back I can surely use that ) is great and I could paddle like this for hours without any effort. That this is included for free in a package is rare and an incredible addition to an already unbelievable bundle.

Both, The Old and The New 2023 Cruise Come with a Complete Package

Bluefin Cruise new

Whether you get the previous version or the 2023 Cruise, this will be the best paddle board you’ve tried on the market, and both are available at a marvelous price. I would recommend the Cruise for any beginner that wants to get started right away with a complete package. With the 5-year warranty , you can be sure you will not need to purchase more things anytime soon!

Both boards are constructed with thick layers of PVC and the side reinforcement prevents any damage when bumping into things in the water. The board even has a UV-resistant coating, so it will not get damaged by the sun that quickly. (I still recommend using 303 protective spray to be sure, read more about paddle board maintenance here ).

If you have more than enough money and only want the best of the best you can check out the Bluefin Cruise Carbon instead, but if you are looking for the best value for money and a complete package to use for the years to come, the Bluefin Cruise 2023 is the SUP you are looking for!

and don’t forget to…

Fins The Bluefin Cruise board has two small fins and one big fin, of which the big fin is removable. The fins are high quality and very strong. The big fin is easily attachable and removable without tools due to the US Box Fin System.

Material The new version of the Bluefin Cruise board is made out of 1000 Denier Exo Surface Laminate PVC & Pro Weave Drop Stitch. 11200 stitches of 500 denier space yarn per square meter make for one rigid board. The fact that this material can take up to 28 PSI inflation makes it clear that it is incredibly strong!

Inflate / deflate The Bluefin Cruise Paddle Board is inflated in only 3,5 mins (or at least I can!) with the supplied Triple Action Hand Pump. The board can be inflated up to 28 PSI, but the recommended pressure is 15-18 PSI.

Warranty Bluefin offers an amazing 5-year warranty on the board and a 1-year warranty on the accessories (manufacturing warranty for accessories). You won’t possibly get this better anywhere.

Design This board has a nice blue an white design with a big black Croco-Diamond Deck pad + Kick Pad. The new version made this model even better and slicker, a board you will want to show to everyone.

Bluefin Cruise NEW

Three-Piece Paddle

Bluefin Cruise NEW

The three-piece paddle from Bluefin was upgraded with some new features and a completely new design to match the new SUP board.

You can adjust it from 175cm to 210cm , which makes it suitable for people of different heights. The grip on the paddle is made of a rubberized material , which feels comfortable in your hands and does not slip when wet.

The shaft is made of lightweight fiberglass , so it’s easy to handle, and the blade is made of glass-filled nylon , which helps reduce water resistance and makes your strokes smoother and more efficient.

The paddle is incredibly light, which is great for longer periods of paddling because the weight won’t tire your arms.

Bluefin Cruise NEW pump

This is a high-pressure pump that makes inflating and deflating the paddleboard quick and easy.

Bluefin Cruise NEW pump

It comes with a hose that attaches to the already stand-up paddle board and a gauge that lets you know when you’ve reached the optimal pressure.

Bluefin Cruise leash

The leash is another important accessory that comes with the Bluefin Cruise 10’8 paddleboard. It’s a coiled leash that attaches to your ankle and the board. Leashes ensure that the board doesn’t get away from you if you fall off but having a coiled leash is a much better option than a regular one.

The coiled leash is shorter and stretches only when needed, so it automatically does not get entangled between your legs when paddling.

Bluefin Cruise fins

The Bluefin Cruise 10’8 paddleboard comes with a tri-fin setup, which consists of three fins that attach to the bottom of the board. These fins help with stability and maneuverability and are removable so that you can adjust the setup to your preference.

Bluefin Cruise fins

The board comes with one center fin, two side fins, and two spare parts for the side fins.

Bluefin Cruise repair kit

A repair kit is included with a lever for the valve and two extra pieces of PVC material. Unfortunately, no glue is included, but for the sake of quality, I understand. What is nice is that you can stick reflection stickers on the board that Bluefin provides for better visibility in the dark.

Waterproof phone case

Bluefin Cruise phone case

This is a great accessory that isn’t included with the older Cruise version.

The waterproof phone case lets you bring your phone with you on the water without having to worry about it getting wet. It’s completely waterproof , so you can take pictures or use your phone without any worries, and it’s big enough to store any phone inside .

SUP Backpack

Bluefin Cruise backpack

The bag that comes with the Bluefin Cruise 10’8 SUP is an improved version of the old backpack they had with the previous Cruse SUP. This one is super spacious and has plenty of room for everything you need to bring with you on your paddleboarding adventure.

Bluefin Cruise backpack

The main compartment seems even larger, and there’s a front pocket where you can store all of your accessories. Plus, on both sides of the bag, there’s enough space to store your paddle, which is super convenient.

In The Package of The Old Bluefin Cruise

The paddle that is included with the Bluefin Cruise is a Bluefin 4-Piece adjustable and convertible paddle , which is lightweight and very strong and durable because it is made out of fiberglass. It can not only be used as a SUP paddle, but also as a kayak paddle. Which is perfect together with the supplied kayak seat .

The T-bar handle of the normal SUP paddle has a very good ergonomic grip, so you hands will not start hurting when paddling. The shaft has a bit of a grainy texture for extra grip, which makes it very comfortable to paddle with this SUP paddle.

Bluefin-Cruise-2021-Paddle

The Bluefin Cruise includes a very easy and comfortable triple action hand pump, so it inflates both on the upstroke and the downstroke. True, this is not as effective as the Triple action pump that is included with the Bluefin Carbon Cruise. But since I inflated this board in only 3.5 minutes with this pump do you really need a better one?

The pump has a clear pressure gauge as you can see on my picture below. It goes up to 21 PSI, which is a bit strange since the board should be able to take up to 28 PSI. But since 15-18 PSI is recommended and stiff enough I don’t think this will be a problem. (If you are actually inflating this to 28 PSI I want to see a video of how long it takes you :-P!)

The handle has a nice ergonomic grip on the handle and on the foot, so even if you went for a quick swim before you will not lose grip with wet hands or wet feet. The pump easily fits into the backpack and is very light, so easily transportable .

Bluefin-Pump-Pressure-Meter

The Bluefin Cruise paddle board leash is a coiled leash , which is great because it only extends if you actually fall in the water . So it is never in your way when you are paddling. The leash can easily be connected to the D-ring on the back of the board.

The neoprene padding on the inside of the Velcro ankle attachment makes it feel comfortable around your ankle and will not start irritating.

Besides humans it also attaches perfectly to tree stumps as you can see, in case you want to go paddle boarding with Groot ( sorry for the non-geeks who don’t get this one ).

Bluefin Cruise 10'8" Review 13

The Bluefin paddle board backpack is very comfortable because of the extra back and strap padding on the extra wide straps. It has some handy outside pockets and the zippers are webbing reinforced . This can easily hold your Bluefin Cruise paddle board and all accessories.

You can also use this bag to pack stuff you want to take on your trip with the Bluefin Cruise. The bag fits under the front luggage cord, so you have a nice cargo holder right with you and you do not need to worry about what to do with the bag.

The backpack has a space of 100 x 37 x 30 cm / 39.4″ x 14.6″ x 11.8″, with a total volume of 111 Liters. It has more volume than the board really needs, so you’ll always be able to fit it in there, even when not rolling the board very tight like some bags require.

Also need a small dry bag to take some of your things along? Read more about dry bags here .

Bluefin-Backpack-Tom-Front

The paddle board Kayak seat is very comfortable and feels like it supports your back well. The feeling is nice and soft and sits great. It would have been great if the seat was waterproof, because if you tip over this seat will be soaking wet. Although it will be very hard to tip over when your balance is right on top of the board, so if that happens you should blame yourself instead of the seat 😉

Paddling while sitting in this seat is very relaxing and easy to do when you are using the supplied dual blade paddle. If you are looking for a true canoeing experience you can just use the normal SUP paddle.

Installing the seat on the D-rings was a bit of puzzling for me to be honest, but I managed with my MacGyver skills. I would recommend everyone who gets this paddle board to try this option out at least once to experience it.

Bluefin Electric SUP pump For those who don’t want the exercise before getting on the board.

Difference between an Inflatable board and a Hard board

Advantages inflatable board.

  • Easy to take on holiday (even on the plane)
  • Easy to store in the winter days
  • Much cheaper
  • Technology has improved greatly over the past 10 years. For this reason, these boards are now  almost hard to distinguish from hard boards

Advantages Hardboard

  • More speed, which is important if you are a professional
  • Easier to make sharp turns on the water because the board is thinner
  • No inflation needed, you can get on the water right away

Update: What is the difference between the Newest 2023 Bluefin Cruise and the Bluefin Cruise 2021?

Bluefin-Cruise-2022-Sizes

Bluefin has released the new version of the Bluefin Cruise, with an updated design and some more upgrades compared to the 2021 version. Just when I thought it could not get any better they still manage to surprise me! Just see how many more colors and sizes have been added to the Bluefin Cruise range now!

Soon I will update this review with new pictures of the new version of the Bluefin Cruise, it is currently on its way to me, wondering which colors I will get 😉

As you can see up here the design is more modern and over 10% lighter than the 2021 version . For me, this is surely an improvement. It might seem like the accessories have not changed at all, but this is actually not correct. Let me tell you about the differences between the new Bluefin Cruise and the Bluefin Cruise 2021.

New colors options: Where before you only had one color option, now you get to choose from six different colors . Besides that new sizes have been added to the collection, the 9’8 and the 10’4 boards.

Lighter board: The Bluefin boards are known for being heavier than others because of the high quality material. Without compromising in that they have made the boards over 10% lighter. The Bluefin Cruise 10’8 went from 12.3 kg to 10.93 kg! Bluefin now relies on a lighter, modern Fusion superstructure (MSL) for the new Cruise models.

Other features: The equipment has also changed quite a bit: There is now a removable luggage net with reflectors on the front D-rings and 2 additional action cam mounts on the rear rings. The deck pad has been extended to the rear and the valve is now integrated into the rear part of the footprint.

Accessories: A new backpack for your paddle board, a new pump, a new paddle, lots of new stuff. But unfortunately Bluefin has removed the 2nd paddle blade and the kayak seat from the package, which to me personally is a big disappointment as this was a huge plus of the package compared to competitors.

As you can see the new version of the Bluefin Cruise offers quite some small improvements. For me especially the design is a lot more attractive. I appreciate how they are still working on making small improvements on, in my opinion, the best Stand Up Paddle Board on the market.

Conclusion – Should I buy the Bluefin Cruise?

For this money, this is the best all-around inflatable Stand Up Paddle board for beginners that you can buy. The Bluefin Cruise is of insanely high quality and made out of super tough material. The fact you get an excellent package with everything you need included is what makes this in total the best board available for beginners at this price . With the 5 year warranty you know you are secure and in the unlikely event that something ever happens to the board, you can contact the superb customer service of Bluefin who will solve your problem easily. A repair kit is also supplied with the package in case an immediate repair would be necessary. As you have seen above there are many advantages to the Bluefin Cruise. The incredibly strong and stiff board , the convertible fiberglass paddle , kayak seat , triple action hand pump, backpack and coiled leash , 9 D-rings , the big grip deck with kick pad , action camera mount , 3 grip handles , 3 fins (all of which are removable), incredible customer service and 5 year warranty …. It has everything you could possibly ever need! When you want to start paddling and you are looking for a beginner’s board that is high quality and complete this Bluefin Cruise is your top pick. Are you more advanced in paddle boarding and looking for an upgrade? Probably you should look at the Bluefin Cruise Carbon instead if you have the budget available or the Bluefin Sprint for higher speeds and longer tours. Along with the Bluefin Cruise Carbon this is one of the very few high quality Stand Up Paddle board that has a kayak seat and 2-in-1 paddle in the package for free and this makes the choice for this board even more obvious. Even if you cannot stand up for a bit ( I’m feeling my back again ) or just want to sit down and relax, you can do this while having your back supported. The price is impeccable for this quality of a package and unrivaled by any other brand in Stand Up Paddling. Anyone purchasing a new Stand Up Paddle board should consider one of the Bluefin boards because of the unmatched value for money . Nothing is missing in the package and the 5 year warranty is the best you can possibly get. Check out the online reviews and you will see how much praise this board gets and that it is a guarantee for years of fun. Or better yet, order it and find it out for yourself!

This one or Aqua marina Beast/Magma ?

The Bluefin Cruise has a complete package with a 2-in-1 fiberglass paddle, a kayak seat and offers a 5 year warranty. So I would always say the Bluefin Cruise in this case. Maybe if you already have a very good fiberglass or carbon paddle, you don’t want to use a kayak seat and you can get the Beast or Magma for a lot less money you should pick one of those instead. This depends on the circumstances, but generally the Bluefin Cruise wins it easily!

Hope you find your right SUP board!

Thanks for review! According to that, just ordered 10.8 / 2020 model. Hope will be statisfied! Thanks again.

Thanks for bringing my attention towards the Bluefin Cruise. The center fin box does not seem to be a standard fin box, but seem to use proprietary fins. Is this correct?

Bluefin does indeed have the smart lock fin system, which for me works a whole lot easier than the US fin box system really. The only disadvantage is that you cannot just put in fins from other brands, you will need the specific Bluefin ones. Hope this helps you out on this question.

Have a lot of paddling pleasure!

Irocker fins, smart lock system and gopro mount, fits great with Bluefin SUP-s. (they are the same, but different colour) and can be bought separately from Irocker-s’ website, wich is great.

Hi, thanks for the review. Do you think the 2021 version would be suitable for me; 5’9 but 100kg…? Thanks for your help and advice, Andrew

You should easily stay afloat on the 2021 version and be stable, I have tested this board a lot of times and even together with my girlfriend this board is very stable. I would recommend to go for it.

Let me know how your paddling adventures go!

Very helpful reviews! I am less than 5ft tall and about 100 lbs. I could easily fit in the junior, but would the additional length on the 10’8 help me with speed or will the larger volume make it more difficult given my size? Thanks!

Hi Sheila. The additional length might be an issue in the beginning until you get a hold of the board. Otherwise, overall a 10’8 shouldn’t be too much of a hassle and will increase speed.

I am 6ft 2″ and weigh 85kg I am lookiing to purchase the The BLUEFIN CRUISE 10’8! is this the correct board or should I go for 12ft?

The Bluefin Cruise 10’8 will surely be enough for normal paddling and your adventures on the water. Only if you are going on long tours and want to bring some extra stuff or if you sometimes want to bring another person along I would recommend the 12′, but it is not necessary with your weight and height.

Hope you have fun on your board!

Hello Tom, thanks for your extensive review, which helped me in buying this board. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks now and it is indeed as great as you say! The bluefin cruise board is very stable and the kayaking option is nice and relaxing. Sometimes my back starts hurting when I paddle for too long, maybe it is the wrong technique I have. Sitting down is a great solution to still continue then.

Hi Tom, thank you for the great and complete review. I have purchased this board recently and it indeed works very well. It feels very stable compared to the budget board I had before this. For this upgrade the price honestly isn’t too much, especially with the high quality paddle that comes with it and the comfortable kayak seat. Looking at your other blogs to find some more gear to make my trips even more comfortable!

Great review, a good read and interesting to see the upgrades to the previous model.

So I bought one of these direct from Bluefin a couple of months ago. There were some issues regarding shipping (UK, probably Brexit related as it came from NL) and when it ~eventually~ arrived, we all loved it. My eldest teen was stood up paddling within 5 minutes from never having been on a solo watercraft of any description; it really is that stable and confidence inspiring. She cannot wait to get out and have another go.

Due to weather that was the only outing to date… didn’t stop me picking another up today via Amazon and a hefty Black Friday discount! Delivery within two days too.

They’re brilliant bits of kit for the money; well made, good features and visibly smart.

This board is perfect! I was able to inflate it on my own with the manual pump, and once inflated it is SOLID. Feels like a regular board. The size is perfect and will fit me and my German shepherd. And the whole thing fits in the backpack!!

I love this board!

I love this board! Instructions were very easy to follow and the board is very easy to pack up and put away after use if you don't have the space to keep it inflated all the time. Very easy first board - takes me about 20-30 minutes to inflate but it's a decent warm-up!

There’s no exact science to matching a board to your size & weight & there are exceptions to the rule, but as a rule of thumb – then if you’re under 6′ & below 85kg then you should go for a 10'4" or 10’8″. If you’re over 6′ & 85kg – then a 12" is usually ideal. If you want even more length & width, then the 15′ tandem works perfectly as a solo option, as well as taking tandem. The simpliest way to find out which size is best for you is by visting our size matters page that is filled with useful hints and tips.

Yes! The Cruise range has been designed to glide across still lakes or sea waves. Patented ESL (Exo-Surface Laminate) technology means our boards are designed to never sag, ensuring optimal stability and performance on unstable water conditions. Just make sure you have your lifetjacket and safety leash attached whenever you get on the water.
