Callaway Diablo Edge Driver

The head of the Callaway Diablo Edge driver is made from ultra-thin four-piece titanium with aerodynamics helping generate higher ball speeds and its 'chemically-milled face making it more forgiving.'The Diablo Edge standard driver is available in 9-, 10-, 11- and 13-degree lofts as well as a draw version. And 8.5-, 9.5- and 10.5 in a Tour model.

Having already propelled Alvaro Quiros to become the longest driver in world golf, Callaway is now planning to help the rest of us discover our inner big-hitter with the launch of a new line of drivers for 2010. But power is only half of the story, I claims, with the new Diablo drivers (standard and Tour versions) offering both distance and forgiveness.

As you might expect, the new drivers feature the sort of technical advancement we’ve come to associate with Callaway. Far from being a simple cosmetic touch-up, this is a full-blown overhaul with updated geometry, improved aerodynamics and a new four-piece design helping to create what the company claims is the most weight-efficient all-titanium driver it has ever produced.

The fusing of crown, sole, face and internal weight enabled Callaway engineers – led by Briton Dr Alan Hocknell – to make the body of the driver much thinner than would have been possible with a standard casting. The weight saved was then moved lower and further back in the head, with a carefully positioned weight chip lowering the CG (centre of gravity), improving the launch conditions and even giving a slight draw bias. If you want to bomb drives these, surely, are your ideal conditions.

With so many restrictions on size, dimensions and materials, engineers have also identified aerodynamics as an area where performance improvements can be made. By streamlining the clubhead design, this year’s Diablo produces 8% less drag than its predecessor. In a game of fine margins, the extra 1mph of ball speed that equates to is not an insignificant gain.

A new process of ‘chemical reduction’ has also been used to remove unwanted material and vary the thickness of the hyberbolic face. The result is a more consistent ball speed, even on off-centre hits. Again, it’s a small improvement, but factor in all the other developments and it becomes clear this club is greater than the sum of its parts.

Thankfully, it’s not just a question of seeing the benefits in a laboratory. Take the Diablo Edge to a driving range and you’ll soon realise just how much better this club is than what went before. Not to say that the BB Diablo was lacking – for the high-handicap slicer it’s excellent – it's just that the new version is an improvement.

As well as the revised aerodynamics giving it a sleeker look, the bulge on the toe portion of the club is far less pronounced at address and it sits beautifully behind the ball. The graphics on the sole are more subtle and the  Diablo logo on the crown makes alignment easy.

But how does it play? Will it turn Albert the hacker into Alvaro the crusher in three swings? The answer, encouragingly, is maybe. Like all Callaway drivers it’s easy to hit, goes straight and will quickly become a faithful companion. Better than that, the ball tends goes 'miles'! Even without my own personal choice of loft and shaft, it was easy to get out there using a standard stock shaft and loft. A properly-fitted Diablo would surely be a match for anything.

It makes a loud, crisp sound at impact and produces a towering flight -not overly high but enough to ease any worries about getting the ball airborne consistently. Better players will perhaps favour the more penetrating ball flight of a Tour model that sits one degree open, has a more conventional, pear-shaped head and a full-length hosel.

The higher lofted versions of the standard Diablo Edge (11 & 13) are one-degree shut to help counteract a slice.

A resounding success from Callaway. The new Diablo Edge is better than the original in every way and really delivers on its promises. Higher handicappers will love the easy-to-achieve high ball flight and generosity on mishits, while the better player will love the more traditional looks and feel of the Tour version. Something for everyone.

Features & benefits.

callaway diablo edge tour driver

The new Callaway Diablo Edge Tour Drivers are designed to give golfers a distance advantage every time they tee it up. They offer superior face technology, a higher MOI, a deeper CG, better aerodynamics — and it all adds up to the longest, most accurate all-titanium drivers Callaway Golf has ever made.

  • Distance Enhancing, Penetrating Ball Flight: Fused Titanium in a 4-piece modular design produces the most weight efficient titanium driver we’ve ever created. Each part is precision formed and accurately fused together, allowing weight to be positioned optimally.
  • Our Most Consistently High Ball Speeds Ever: Chemically Milled Hyperbolic Face Cup uses a chemical reduction process to selectively remove unwanted material for precision thickness control.
  • Reduced Drag in Downswing for Higher Impact Speeds: The Aerodynamic Body Design refines and optimizes all edge transitions, reducing drag up to 8% vs. other 460cc driver heads.
  • Looks and Performance Preferred by Accomplished Players: A Conventional Head Shape with a Full Length Hosel, less face progression and more forward center of gravity are designed for highly skilled golfers.
  • Incredible Feel and Performance: High performance Aldila Habanero shafts are engineered as the ideal complement to the Diablo Edge drivers.

As with the original Diablo, the head design of the Edge encourages an
in-to-out swing path that will help
to eliminate a bad slice. Callaway’s ‘Hyperbolic’
face design continues to offer impressive levels
of forgiveness and shots from the middle
sounded great.

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

A four-piece titanium head allows the accurate positioning of weight to help improve forgiveness. The aerodynamic body reduces drag to help improve clubhead speed.

The Callaway Diablo Edge driver should suit golfers who want an all-out forgiving driver, need to straighten out shots off the tee, and/or need a long-game confidence boost.

Callaway Men’s Diablo Edge Tour Driver

460cc club, compared to standard.

Callaway Men's Driver Club, Tour vs.

The idea is to extend the sweet spot across the entire face. By using chemicals Callaway can effectively make the clubface one big giant hotspot.

Swing away because no matter where you catch the ball, this design provides consistent ball speeds across the entire clubface. The Edge series has now been updated to become the Diablo Octane series. You can see our review of that club here .

The Tour version of the Edge club has a low launch, penetrating and running ball flight. The ball takes off like a heat-seeking missile and slowly rises. As it drops back to the earth it runs out another 10 to 15 yards. What’s more is the driver makes it very easy to turn the ball over. For those dog leg lefts, I found it very easy to play a low draw around the corner. And of course for the dog leg rights, I cut it high over the trees.

In addition, I was surprised how forging the Tour version was. It is very forgiving throughout the face. That goes back to the ginormous sweet spot that I already told you about. Off-center hits travel a decent distance. They still don’t go quite as far as when you catch in clean in the middle but the distance is negotiable.

And if you want even more forgiveness, try the Standard version. The only thing I would worn you about is sound at impact is a lot louder and very annoying. It has a metallic “TINK” sound that is reminds me of the last time I watch a college baseball game.. Interested in the Standard? You can find it on Amazon here .

My favorite thing about the club is the way it looks at address. Looking down at it, it sets up well, and the huge face gives me a lot of confidence. I feel like I could swing with my eyes closed and still make contact. I suppose that’s not always a good thing. (The last time I swung with my eyes closed, I was eight and I bashed my poor grandpa clear in the left shin.)

To summarize, both the Tour driver and the Standard driver are very forgiving. The Tour is more workable but the Standard is more forgiving. I like the look, feel, and sound of the Tour driver better than the Standard, but unless you are a low handicapper, you better stick with the Standard. Just grab a set of ear plugs.

Finally, the only other thing I would complain about is the lack of alignment aid on the driver. As big as the 460CC head is, I still would like a good guide to help me set up at address. Perhaps it’s just a safety blanket for me, but I like to have something.

A challenging course with blind tee shoots and undulating fairways tstoto

none . . . .

My driver's SS is about 82 mph so in theory I have no business of playing this DET 9.5* Aldila Habanero S-flex. Took a chance because it's $48 shipped 99% brand new. Tested it against my beloved Cleveland 460cc Launcher, 55-g Fuji R-flex. I hit the DET as long if not longer and straighter at a local range. 90% of shots were either straight or baby fades, 10% leaks so I could not be any happier. So, take it from me, don't be afraid of S-flex, especially S-flex from Cally drivers. I called and talked to Cally office and the guy I talked to confesses that S-flex from Cally in general is a little bit less stiff than after market shafts like ProForce V2 etc... I am very happy with this club

I bought this club (10.5deg) for the reason it had a open clubface to tone down my draw. I bought the X Flex. Well i soon snapped the shaft (factory shaft was too lite and too much torque). I installed a penley sfs 90 gram x flex 265cpm. 44 1/2 in, D6. WOW!!! 13-14deg launch, 3000 spin and the longest drives ever. This club hit in the sweet spot is crazy looong!. I am swinging 100-105 max, but a solid smash factor, with this length I can hit draws and fades easy. This driver is very good for the money and has distance = to the ping g15, just a bit less forgiving 'but not much'. I would recommend a heavy shaft / 44 1/2-45inch set up to get max control for the x flex players. The heavy shaft is 'laser beam' straight and more control. I am actually getting more distance because i am confident to 'go all out'. This Driver set up with a good shaft is Awesome!. Now i am splitting fairways, drawing doglegs, and powerfading where needed. I am shooting birdies once again because i have given myself many chances at a good second shot to the green. Hope this helps.

Over the last year, I have had a hard time with drivers. Whether it was cracked faces (Ping i15), seperating face (Callaway FT Tour), Or just not for me (R11, Cobra S9-1 Pro D). Well, it might be honeymoon phase, but I love this driver! The first time I hit it was on the first hole at the course, and it delivered nicely, slight draw, and great ball flight. It only got better from there..I couldn't swing this thing to hard, I have never seen a driver you can just go all out and it does what you picture before the shot. I hit the ball pretty far, and I was NOT dissapointed in the disatance of this driver. And most importantly, it is accurate. I have it paired with the Habanero X flex stock shaft. I actually ordered a pulled Project X shaft from an Octane driver to put in it when I ordered this driver just because going by the shaft specs and reviews, I thought I would have to reshaft it immediately. I was wrong, and now I have an extra shaft. The torque on this shaft is high, and my swing speed hovers around 115, so it doesn't make sense that it would work at all for me, but..It just shows that specs mean nothing, and you have to hit 22,000 combinations to find the right one. I think I have finally done that. I would recommend it very much.

No idea, i took the FT Tour back to the shop I bought it at and they gave me credit.

I bought a Callaway Tour Edge driver from Callaway Preowned in like-new condition for a great price. I decided to try it because it has a 1 degree open face and I was hoping it would help me to avoid my hook. After several months using this driver, I'm very happy with it. I've been able to hit it very straight, and as far as distance, it's been about as long as any driver I've had. The sound at impact is very solid -- not a tinny hollow sound like some big head drivers. For me, the Callaway Tour Edge driver is working well and I'm likely to have this in my bag for a while.

In the past, I've had some experience with Callaway Preowned customer service and they have been very good.

Srixon Z-RW, Cleveland Hi-Bore XLS, Adams BUL 5000, Callaway C4, numerous Golfsmith/Snake Eyes driver, and others.

Bought this to replace my Mizuno MX-series driver, which was accurate but nothing special. First swing with the Diablo Edge Tour, wow! Launched a drive 245 yards, easily 20 yards longer than the Mizuno. Mine has the Aldila Habanero R flex shaft and it fits my swing perfectly. Great sound at impact, great solid feel. Just a great product from Callaway.

Mizuno MX-630, many others

Let me preface by saying I am a 6 handicap who has ALWAYS fought off hitting the driver way too high with too much spin. This club has me cured....I was fit a Callaway Demo Day which feautured the Tour Van on site. This driver is your key to a more penetrating ball flight. The combination of the heavier head with the Aldila Habanero shaft drops bombs! I was always able to hit it 270-275 but never got any roll, my drives are now flying 280-285 and getting another 10-15 yards of roll from there. I cant say it enough, if you need help getting your ball flight down, check this out! It may not be for everyone due to the slightly open face and smaller head but if you can put a consistent pass at the ball, this club will reward you BIG TIME!

If you ever get a chance to experience the Callaway Tour Van do it, great fitting system and the club is built for you right on site!

Titleist 905R w/Graffaloy Blue Stiff, TaylorMade R9 460 w/ Motore Stiff, Ping G10 with ProLaunch Red Stiff,

First off everyones swing is different so you have to try any club for yourself to really know if a club will work for you. With that said, for me this is the best Callaway driver I've ever hit by far. It offers enough forgiveness to help on the shots that are less than perfect so they still get you out there pretty far and close to your intended line. They don't make a magic driver that will hit the ball down the middle know matter how bad your swing is so if that's what you're looking for save yourself some money and time and get any driver and fix your swing. For me my bad shot is a hook so I got the tour model for the 1 degree open face and it has helped me on my bad shots to not have quite as bad of a hook that most of the time I can keep in play depending on the hole. When I hit this driver pure it's probably 10 to 20 yards longer than the others I tested which were titleist 909 d2, d3, taylor made r9, supertri and the ping i15 and g15. Ive never been a big fan of callaway drivers so I was really skeptical about getting this one so much so that I went to or local golf store 4 or 5 times testing drivers with the diablo edge tour coming out on top each time before I finally decided I should purchase it. Boy am I glad I did, First time out I hit all but one fairway and was longer all day than I'd ever been on that course. On one par 5 that has water crossing almost all the fairway I hit it in the water, thing is I was never concerned with that water before because I couldn't reach it even on my best shot. I'm not going to tell you this driver will be the best driver you've ever hit because I can't, but I will tell you that if you don't give this driver a try no matter how bad you've hit callaway drivers in the past you will be making a mistake. It's unlike any callaway driver thats ever been out and like I said I tried not to get it, I really wanted one of the titleist drivers but the results don't lie so I guess I'll just have to keep a mixed bag with titleist irons, wedges and putter and callaway woods. I also can't find anything to take my big bertha 2004 model fairway woods out of my bag. Good luck and give it a try.

Martins PGA Tour Superstore is the greatest golf shop in the world. Everyone is always so helpful there and I've been a loyal customer for about 8 or 9 years and everytime I go there it's kinda like being at my home away from home. Everyone goes out of their way to talk to me or help me with any questions or concerns.

I've tried just about every driver thats been out in the last 8 or 9 years that I've played golf they are all similar but none of them are comparable this one is miles ahead of anything I've hit.

Callaway Diablo Edge Driver Review

Martin Hopley

Callaway have a reputation for making excellent woods and it’s a real pleasure to find that the Callaway Diablo Edge driver has all the usual hallmarks of excellent sound and feel. Callaway promised extreme forgiveness and they have certainly delivered, this is a club that will boost your confidence every time you step on to the tee.

Better players will probably been keen to investigate the Diablo Edge Tour version because it offers more control and the effortless high ball flight of the standard version is likely to appeal more to the higher handicappers looking for some help off the tee. Our one concern was that all the technology and forgiveness, and the effective and impressive sweet spot, require space and the clubhead does look quite large.

If you are looking for confidence on the tee then that is unlikely to be a problem and it certainly doesn't harm the performance of what is a very impressive driver.

Traded it in a few years ago, too much back spin. Drop and stop off the tee with no roll out. My new Ping i25 is the bomb.

Callaway Diablo Edge Tour Driver Review

We’ve been busy with the Tom Wishon guest posting Q&A postings .  If you haven’t had a chance to read the 50 Q&A Compilation , please do so.  Some good stuff!

Anyway, getting back to the business at hand and what we do best, reviews!  And tonight is a good one.  The Callaway Diablo Edge Tour is certainly not a new driver, but definitely should be on the short list for some!

Callaway fused four pieces of titanium (crown, skirt/sole, internal weight and cupface), to create a head that is downright explosive!  In addition, Callaway engineers added a acid chemical reduction process used to form the variable thicknesses of the face, making this a very, very aerodynamic driver.

Don’t get me wrong though, this driver is not for everyone.  Even though Callaway took many of the gems from the Big Bertha lineage and, most will like the looks and address of this driver, higher handicappers would be better suited to the standard version of the Diablo , or even the new Diablo Octane .

“The shape of it is very nice and is one of the best looking heads on a driver in my opinion. I really was looking for a driver that would look, feel, sound good and this one has done it. I have finally found a driver after hitting about 8-10 different ones and mixing up the shaft combinations in the drivers trying to get everything just right”

“I had a Diablo Draw and the Diablo Edge has improved my driving overnight. The absence of the draw biased face allows me to set up more consistently and my slice has been greatly reduced”

[review pros=”Definitely the four piece construction has captivated the audience . The new Callaway cupface is the most carefully calibrated to date.” cons=”Again, this is not a driver for the masses.  Most likely the mid to higher handicappers will benefit from a more “playable” standard version.” score=99.6]

Overall Rating-

The Callaway Diablo Edge Tour driver may not be for everyone, but it will capture the hearts of many.  This is a driver worth checking out.  I’m not sure what Callaway’s plan is for 2011′ season, but even if they do nothing and simply bring it back as is, it’ll compete with new ones.

I’m looking for a driver with a shorter face height, something that looks more like a 3-wood or 5-wood than a HUGE softball-size face (like the Burners of the world). I just feel more confident that I can hit the middle of the sweet spot with a shorter face.

I hit my Burner driver 260 yards – my burner 5-wood 240 yards and MUCH straighter.

Any recomendations out there?

Callaway Diablo Edge Tour Driver

Mmmmmmbuddy.

The driver is very unlike anything that Callaway has done in the past, and I mean that in a good way. The Edge Tour driver features a slightly open face to promote a fade off of the tee. The club looks smaller than 460cc, which seems to be the direction that most companies are moving with their players drivers. Gone are the radical geometric shapes and colors. This club looks like it belongs in the hands of a skilled player.

The Edge Tour driver has a slightly longer than standard (45 inch) shaft, but not nearly as long as some of the offerings out today. the club has nice balance and heft. The all Titanium head produces a solid crack at impact, with no metallic ringing.

PERFORMANCE

I had a chance to take this club through it's paces on our FlightScope Kudu launch Monitor. I hit the 9.5* with the stock stiff flex Habanero shaft. The launch monitor numbers were amazing!!! It is Feb, and 45* outside, but I was still able to achieve higher than normal ballspeeds while having lower than normal spin rates. This driver might be as close to the holy grail for me as I have been able to find. More extensive testing will follow, but I can very easily see myself gaming one of these drivers this year.

The Callaway Diablo Edge Tour driver is an excellent mix of classic look and feel with cutting edge technology that increases ball speeds and reduces back spin. However, this driver is not for everyone. If you struggle with shots that leak to the right, or don't hit the ball very solidly, there might be other options out there that would fit your game better. But if you are a strong player who moves the ball right to left, and has trouble with the dreaded "balloon ball", give the Diablo Edge Tour a try.

I haven't really been down with the Diablo line. Its one of the unwritten rules of golf club design... never name a club after its ugliest feature! And the shape of the regular Diablo head is just weird.

So, its good to see that Callaway is rethinking their approach. They are probably casting an eye towards Nike with the success of their Str8-fit and Victory Red lines. Talk about another company coming back from the brink. LOL.

We got our Demo Club of this last week and I must say it was.... disappointing! Looks awesome, feels average at best. Maybe its because there are so many good drivers around at the moment, but its behind the Cobra ZL, the R9 SuperTri, the Nike VR and the Ping i15 as far as I am concerned...

Did you hit it outside, or on a launch monitor, or both?? Or was it on course??

Just on the launch monitor so far, courses are still under snow here in Scotland so not had a chance to play with it outside...
LM inside?? take the thing outside, and you will not be disappointed. Sooooo much more consistent than Nike VR, and Cobra ZL. Outdoor testing is the thing.

Guys, I have heard a lot of good things about both this driver and the Diablo fairway clubs.

Yes, they seem to be very popular. The Edge driver isn't as high handicapper oriented as the original Diablo, and the forged irons are a solid option for mid to high handicappers who want some good feel.

TWShoot67

I agree with the testing outside. Until we play golf indoors, the only way to get real results is outside in real golf conditions. If you want all the data use a Trackman outside, the only way to fly. JMO

It sure is a very nice looking head, personally I'll be playing the Daddy the Tour Issued FT9 TA which is a low spin monster. Best driver out there to date and by far the best driver Cally has ever made! But this head looks very nice.

I am just not good enough to play such a low spin head. I generate almost too little spin on some of the newer drivers, so for me, The Tour Edge Diablo (intended) is really really good.

This looks similar to the FT-Tour that I saw at GG today. I really like that they both have actual hosels. Besides the Fusion Technology and some dollars, what are the major differences between the Diable Edge Tour and the FT-Tour?

Follow me on Twitter: @MattSaternus

Is the face on this one a little bit closed?

FT-Tour uses Fusion Technology, meaning Carbon in the crown, the Diablo is all Titanium. Different sounds, Different shafts. FT looks a bit smaller at address, but both look amazing. FT is much more difficult to hit, but produces higher ballspeeds on center hits for me. (if only I could find the center) FT spins it a bit less as well.

Diablo tour is open 1*.

Thank goodness they did - this actually looks like a players driver and performs like one. I am a high spinner and this driver helped reduce spin under 3000 rpm, pretty good for me. Smash factors were higher than normal as well, 1.45 - 1.47. enjoy

you should see the FT Tour - 430 to 440 cc very hot!!!

Finally! That is one fine looking driver for sure! Good job Callaway.

Those 2 offerings should clean up next year...... this is how drivers should look.

Is there a specific reason that Callaway seems to be gravitating towards drivers with traditional hosels lately? I know they have made one for their Tour Authentic line the last few years, but isn't the Diablo Edge the first one to be available for the general public?

Any major difference between the Diablo TA and the Tour Edge Diablo aside from stock shaft?

Meanmachinemoe

I understood that Callaway was using I-Mix technology on all of their new drivers. Too bad, this looks very good.

Can't wait to hit these, Callaway has stepped it up a notch.

Very nice! Like the Diablo

So whats the real difference here? To me they look extremely close to each other, one with the no weld on the face and one with.....is the Diablo closed face or something? I get that there is probably a size difference albeit tiny, but what else is really different?

Both look great; what is the face angle of the Edge? Thanks...BB

Callaway Edge Driver Review – Is it Forgiving for High Handicappers?

callaway diablo edge tour driver

“Callaway is a brand that everyday golfers can depend on. But are their older drivers still worth a look in 2023?”

When the Callaway Edge debuted, there was no secret that it was geared towards high handicap players. Even looking at it today, it has a deep face profile and a sizable head that just screams “game improvement.”

And in 2023, you can get the Callaway Edge driver for well under $100 which makes it a target for budget-conscious players. However, just because a club is affordable doesn’t mean that it belongs in your bag.

We went out and revisited the Callaway Edge driver. We tested it to see what, if any, benefits it still holds for high handicap players. Read on to learn what our test session revealed.

The Callaway Edge Driver in 50 Words or Less

“The Callaway Edge driver gives off a very pleasing sound and feel thanks to the titanium body.”

It is incredibly forgiving and high-launching. Behind the ball, it looks very reassuring if you’re a high handicap player.

First Impression on the Range

callaway diablo edge tour driver

“Our first impression of the Callaway Edge driver was that it looked easy.”

The size of this club is both reassuring and manageable. We liked the matte black finish on the crown because it reduced glare – and it just so happened that we tested the Callaway Edge driver on a clear and sunny day.

The Callaway Edge we tested was 10.5° so we were able to get plenty of air under the ball. It was consistent too. In very short order, we were nailing the sweet spot consistently and getting very consistent launch.

What’s New With the Callaway Edge Driver?

“While the Callaway Edge doesn’t boast the latest technology in golf club manufacturing, it has a winning formula if you are a high handicapper.”

The main story here is the titanium body. Titanium is very light but also very strong. That means the head won’t weigh a ton but it will still stand up to warping at impact. The face could have been a little more consistent; but overall the MOI of this club was very favorable.

Unless you hit near the extreme heel or toe, you can expect your ball to fly straight. And if you are able to keep the ball on-line, you will also be able to squeeze a few extra yards out of your drives.

What Handicap is it for?

There’s no doubt that the Callaway Edge was made for 20+ handicap players. It’s a big, forgiving driver that doesn’t leave much room for workability. The sweet spot is expansive and once you find it, it’s hard to miss. That was the case for our testers anyway.

They also remarked that it didn’t take very long to find the sweet spot – they were hitting it consistently after 3 or 4 swings. The Callaway Edge launches high and you can’t really keep it low even if you’re an experienced player.

For players with faster swing speeds, the launch will almost certainly come at the cost of carry distance. But for 20+ handicappers, the launch will add distance because you aren’t likely to swing the driver fast enough to capitalize on a lower launch.

How Does it Compare to the Callaway Mavrik Driver?

“The Callaway Mavrik is the more recent driver and as such, it has updated features.”

For instance, the Mavrik has the Flash Face SS20 stainless steel face design which, in our experience, is a bit more consistent than the face used for the Callaway Edge driver. The Mavrik also has the Jailbreak internal bracing bars which improves the MOI.

However, in terms of forgiveness, there isn’t a lot of difference between these two drivers. The Callaway Edge is just as forgiving – if not more forgiving – than the Mavrik.

Overview of the Callaway Edge Driver

callaway diablo edge tour driver

“The Callaway Edge driver is still a worthwhile gamer if you’ve just started playing golf or are struggling with accuracy from the tee.”

The titanium construction makes for a very satisfying sound and feel. It’s like a high-pitched “ping” when you pure the ball. While it can’t be worked very much at all, it will help you get the ball in the air, keep it straight and improve your swing speed.

  • Reduces glare
  • Looks very good behind the ball
  • Effortless launch
  • It’s not workable
  • Face is prone to twisting

Distance: 95/100

Workability: 92/100, feel & sound: 96/100, forgiveness: 97/100, value: 97/100.

Is it Worth it Overall?

“Considering the price, it’s hard to say that the Callaway Edge isn’t worth it in any circumstance.”

But of course, if you are a mid to low handicapper, you simply won’t like the Callaway Edge driver. But if you are trying to break 100, the Callaway Edge is definitely worth it because it will help you start every hole the right way. You’ll stay on the fairway and likely see distance increases.

Other Drivers to Consider in 2023

Cobra ltdx driver.

callaway diablo edge tour driver

“The Cobra LTDx driver features forward-oriented weight and a variable thickness face.”

This driver felt incredibly stable and the ball speed was very good even when we mis-hit near the heel. It has a carbon fiber crown and sole panel so the overall weight is very similar to the Callaway Edge. The CNC milled face also feels amazing when you nail the sweet spot and is forgiving when you miss it.

Ping G430 Max Driver

PING G430 MAX DRIVER

“The Ping G430 Max driver features a forged titanium face and a 25-gram adjustable rear weight.”

This is a very versatile driver that will help you launch the ball properly even when you mis-hit. It’s a bit heavy; but that can be remedied by the right graphite shaft. A great play for a wide variety of players.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver

callaway diablo edge tour driver

“The CG of this driver was nice and low.”

Our testers remarked that the Callaway Rogue ST Max was easy to swing and produced near-effortless launch.
