The disney story behind the “chloe side-eye” meme.

“ We’re going to Disney! ” This should be every child’s dream to hear, right? Well, not so much for Chloe.

Known as the “Side-eyeing Chloe” meme , this one has made its rounds. Chances are you’ve seen Chloe’s meme pop up on numerous social media networks and had a chuckle as it fits in well for many scenarios. But, did you know it came from the news of a surprise Disney trip ?

Here’s the story behind the well-known meme along with the original video below!

In the video, Chloe is riding along in the car with her family, including sister Lily and Mom and Dad. Dad is driving Lily to school. Lily holds onto her Duffy Bear and attempts to convince her Mom who is videoing that Duffy should go to school with her.

As Mom videos, Dad drives past Lily’s school. Lily chants, “No school, no school…” (something all parents with young children have likely heard). Well, surprise, surprise! Mom announces the family is going to ditch school and instead are on their way to Disneyland !

Lily is beside herself. While it takes her a moment to realize what is happening, she begins to break down into tears with excitement. Meanwhile… here enters Lily’s little sister, Chloe.

Mom pans over to Chloe and catches a moment that little did she know would turn into a worldwide, iconic meme for years to come!

Chloe was likely too little to understand what exactly was going on and it’s surely her sister’s tears and random excitement that had the young girl extra confused.

The girl in the side-eye meme is all grown up and we're freaking out.

A couple of years ago Chloe and her older sister Lily became internet sensations when their parents surprised them with a trip to Disneyland and posted their responses on YouTube.

Lily had the reaction one might expect of a small child told they’ll be skipping school to spend three days surrounded by actors purporting to be their favourite Disney characters… she burst into tears.

Chloe, on the other hand, was a little underwhelmed.

Since 2013, the video has been watched more than 15 million times  and spawned a meme that’s basically just Chloe hating on stuff.

The girls have also clocked more than 699,000 followers on their shared Instagram account .

Anyway, the family recently went on holiday to Brazil and popped into the Google office in Sao Paulo where Chloe’s somewhat of a superstar.

Here she is looking a lot more grown up and standing next to an elevator with her face on it.

10 Hilarious Disney World Memes Only True Park Hoppers Will Understand

When Passholders and park-lovers hear someone mention Disney World, a million memories come to mind. If you’re a serious park hopper though, there are inside jokes that will come to you that casual visitors just will not understand.

Disney World’s most passionate fans know how to bond over inside secrets, relatable moments, and the crazy things they’ll do to ride an attraction. We’re here to take a look at all of it by covering some of the funniest Disney Park memes around.

Get ready to hop on the monorail; Here are 10 hilarious Disney World memes only true park hoppers will understand.

10. When Disney Changes Too Much

f you happen to be a Disney Parks fan and a Marvel fan, this will feel all too real.

Though Captain America has lived to the present, at the end of Avengers: Endgame, he ended up going back in time to live out his life with Peggy Carter. This joke imagines the pair going to Hollywood Studios in the ’90s, back before Disney both changed the name of the park and removed The Great Movie Ride .

Unfortunately, Steve Rogers knows all too well that the classic title will be given a makeover and the nostalgia-inducing attraction will be removed. The Great Movie Ride closed in August 2017 to make way for the forthcoming Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride.

9. When Disney Kills Off Another Attraction

The Universe of Energy was the fabulous home of Ellen’s Energy Adventure, a 45-minute slow-moving dark ride show starring Ellen DeGenerous and Bill Nye, in which they travel through time to learn about the planet’s energy sources. The show was a comedic staple of Epcot until, like The Great Movie Ride, it closed in August 2017 to make way for a new attraction.

A Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster will be moving into this space, unfortunately leaving Universe of Energy behind in the process.

8. When You Know The Lines Will Last Forever

Disney World’s new Star Wars-themed Galaxy’s Edge is set to open to the public on August 29. While passholders are crazy excited to see Disney expand its Star Wars portion of the park, if it’s anything like Avatar Land, they know they’ll be waiting in never-ending lines.

Is the line being all the way out to the Florida boundary sign a little bit of an exaggeration? Yes. Will it feel like it stretches that far? You bet.

7. When You Ride Disney’s Monorail Too Much

Disney’s Monorail system contains sleek trains in the sky that connect guests between the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and the resorts.

Every time you ride it, a voice booms through the speakers, telling you to stand clear of the doors. The announcer then repeats this line in Spanish, and even if you don’t speak the language, trust us — you’ll have the words ingrained in your head. Park hoppers hear them a lot.

7. When You Fall In Love With The Music

Epcot’s Future World is getting a makeover. This high-tech land positioned near the park’s entrance is going to become even trendier as many of its ’80s aesthetics will be replaced by a sleeker exterior and a more futuristic feel.

Although this is exciting, there’s one thing Disney lovers are terrified of losing: The soundtrack. While the music in many themed lands throughout the parks are loved, the songs of Future World invoke a sense of nostalgia that we will really miss.

This one hit me in the feels!

5. When Disney’s New Attractions Follow A Trend

Disney has been closing and constructing a lot of new attractions in the past few years, which has led to some gaps in entertainment. To fill in the empty spaces, the company keeps creating dance parties.

There have been dance parties with characters from all sorts of franchises, including The Incredibles, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Toy Story. And while none of the dance parties are particularly bad, they’re getting kind of predictable at this point — especially when the voids they’re filling in were previously held by incredibly thought-out rides and shows.

4. When You Go All Lion-King On Orlando

There are theme park fans, then there are Disney fans. Sure, Orlando is full of popular and fun theme parks. But does Universal have the groovy music of Tomorrowland? Does it have a castle that towers over all the attractions? Does it serve up Dole Whip?

Disney is stocked full of fun, and while Universal is fine, it’s not the same. Visitors can explore four beautiful theme parks, various districts, and tons of beautiful resorts to explore. You don’t need anything else.

3. When You’re Expecting This On Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a high-speed steel rollercoaster that takes guests on a journey through snow-capped mountains to track down a terrifying yeti. The only thing scarier than the Yeti himself is the crazy collection of hairbands sitting at the bottom of one section of the track.

The ride begins by slowly elevating guests through various twists and turns. When it reaches the top, the ride vehicle pauses before it descends back into darkness. This is where guests have been known to leave insane amounts of hair ties.

2. When You Eat At This Restaurant Too Much

Tomorrowland sits to the right of Cinderella’s castle in the Magic Kingdom. On the edge of it, you’ll find a fast-casual restaurant called Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, and in it is the world’s greatest singing space alien.

Sonny Eclipse is an animatronic robot that has been entertaining guests with a collection of original jazzy space tunes since 1995. Serious Disney fans can recall every single one. The total show lasts 27 minutes before it loops again, meaning if you eat a long lunch, you might hear the same song twice.

1. When You’re Waiting For A Ride

Posted above every attraction is a wait time. This wait time is also shown in the “My Disney Experience” app, which keeps guests up to date on the happenings in the park.

What’s the most frustrating thing in the world, though, is when the wait times update while you’re standing in line. Trust us, the five minutes make a huge difference.

Serious park hoppers will race from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom because of low wait time; if it changes, you can’t expect them to be happy about it.

The Side Eyeing Chloe meme was taken from a 2013 YouTube video by Katie Clem announcing the Utah family was going on a surprise trip to the Anaheim theme park.

“I think we should ditch school and go to Disneyland,” Katie Clem says in the video.

Her daughter Lily breaks into tears of joy as the camera pans to Chloe who gives a now-famous side-eye glance of disapproval that has since become a stock reaction meme for internet users. The YouTube video has been watched more than 20 million times with Chloe’s Instagram account now boasting more than 500,000 followers.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) tracked by blockchain represent ownership of digital art or other online assets — granting the buyer a digital certificate, but not the copyright.

The Clem family auctioned their NFT of the Side Eyeing Chloe meme on Friday, Sept. 24 for 25 Ethereum — a form of cryptocurrency — with an overall value of approximately $75,000.

The Clem family plans to use some of the proceeds from the meme sale on a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, according to the Washington Post .

“I’ve never been there before,” Chloe Clem told the Washington Post of the Disney World trip. “It’ll be my first time so we can go on like all of the rides.”

Chloe Clem also has a horse and a pair of AirPods on her wish list, according to the Washington Post.

The family plans to save the rest of the cryptocurrency to see what happens with the often-volatile market price.

“In an ever-changing world, it may be worth more next week,” Katie Clem told the BBC .

Prices for NFTs of internet memes have skyrocketed in the past year. Internet sensations like Doge ($4 million), Nyan Cat ($880,000), Charlie Bit My Finger ($760,000), Disaster Girl ($500,000) and Overly Attached Girlfriend ($411,000) have claimed eye-popping prices at auction.

Earlier this year, digital artist Beeple sold a collection of NFTs at auction for $69 million while Twitter founder Jack Dorsey sold an NFT of his first tweet for $2.9 million.

NFT sales, prices and overall market activity have plummeted since a peak in popularity in April, according to Mashable .

The Clem family watched the online auction of the Side Eyeing Chloe meme from their Utah home, according to the BBC.

“If we’re going based off meme sales before, it’s a bit lower, but we’re so grateful for what it sold for,” Katie Clem told the BBC. “The money is awesome, but it’s just the fact that we get to do this as a family is so much fun.”

The Side Eyeing Chloe meme has turned the young girl — now 10 years old — into a worldwide celebrity. In 2017, Chloe Clem was featured in a Google advertising campaign in Brazil with her famous face on elevator doors at the company’s Sao Paulo offices and posted throughout the city.

Buzzfeed once called Side Eyeing Chloe the “patron saint of Tumblr” due to the popularity of the meme on the microblogging and social networking platform, according to Mashable.

Chloe Clem became a viral meme after her mom posted a video of her children reacting to the news of a Disneyland vacation.

Lily Clem broke out into tears when finding out the news, and Chloe gave a now-famous side-eye to her mom that contrasts her sister’s reaction hilariously. In case you have never seen it, you can check out the video below, which has been seen over 20 million times!

The image of Chloe’s side-eye became a major meme, and now the Clem family decided to sell the non-fungible token (NFT). According to The Orange County Register, the bidding began at $15,000 and sold to Dubai-based 3F music production company for $75,000 — which has also bought other high-priced memes like Charlie Bit My Finger, Overly Attached Girlfriend, and Disaster Girl.

The Clem family has already said what they will be spending some of their money on, and it seems like a Disney World vacation is on the horizon. Chloe has never been to Disney World and said, “It’ll be my first time so we can go on like all of the rides.” Now 10 years old, Chloe would also like to purchase Air Pods and a horse with the newly earned money. Although this meme sold for much less than other NFT’s, the Clem family is still grateful that they were able to go on this journey as a family!

9 When Disney Changes Too Much

5 When You Fall In Love With The Music

Epcot's Future World is getting a makeover. This high-tech land positioned near the park's entrance is going to become even trendier as many of its '80s aesthetics will be replaced by a sleeker exterior and a more futuristic feel.

Although this is exciting, there's one thing Disney lovers are terrified of losing: The soundtrack. While the music in many themed lands throughout the parks are loved, the songs of Future World invoke a sense of nostalgia that we will  really  miss.

4 When Disney's New Attractions Follow A Trend

Disney has been closing and constructing a lot of new attractions in the past few years, which has led to some gaps in entertainment. To fill in the empty spaces, the company keeps creating dance parties.

There have been dance parties with characters from all sorts of franchises, including The Incredibles , Guardians of the Galaxy , and Toy Story . And while none of the dance parties are particularly bad, they're getting kind of predictable at this point -- especially when the voids they're filling in were previously held by incredibly thought-out rides and shows.

3 When You're Expecting This On Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest in Disney's Animal Kingdom is a high-speed steel rollercoaster that takes guests on a journey through snow-capped mountains to track down a terrifying yeti. The only thing scarier than the Yeti himself is the crazy collection of hairbands sitting at the bottom of one section of the track.

The ride begins by slowly elevating guests through various twists and turns. When it reaches the top, the ride vehicle pauses before it descends back into darkness. This is where guests have been known to leave insane amounts of hair ties.

2 When You Eat At This Restaurant Too Much

Tomorrowland sits to the right of Cinderella's castle in the Magic Kingdom. On the edge of it, you'll find a fast-casual restaurant called Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe, and in it is the world's greatest singing space alien.

Sonny Eclipse is an animatronic robot that has been entertaining guests with a collection of original jazzy space tunes since 1995. Serious Disney fans can recall every single one. The total show lasts 27 minutes before it loops again, meaning if you eat a long lunch, you might hear the same song twice.

1 When You're Waiting For A Ride

Posted above every attraction is a wait time. This wait time is also shown in the "My Disney Experience" app, which keeps guests up to date on the happenings in the park.

What's the most frustrating thing in the world, though, is when the wait times update  while you're standing in line.  Trust us, the five minutes make a huge difference.

Serious park hoppers will race from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom because of low wait time; if it changes, you can't expect them to be happy about it.
