Last Minute 2024 Cruises – Mexico and The Bahamas

Fun fact: Travel Weekly selected Carnival for several honors in 2023 , including Best Short Itinerary and Best Domestic Cruise Line for the eighth year in a row! That means you always have the chance to book a getaway cruise you’ll never forget.

Just south of the border, Mexico is a great destination choice for anyone looking to escape the daily grind. On your way, you’ll also get the chance to explore and experience Catalina Island — a breathtaking locale just 22 miles from the California mainland. Once you’re back on board and headed for Mexico, kick back, look out for humpback whales in the azure waters, take a dance class, bask by the pool and explore dreamy ports of call.

With multiple dates on quick getaway cruises, Carnival is also your ticket to Bahamian bliss . Stroll through local markets, sink into powder-soft white sand, or conquer the sandstone marvel of Queen’s Staircase in Nassau . A little secret for forward-thinkers: starting in 2025 we invite you to add Celebration Key to your Bahamas adventure, Carnival’s exclusive island for ultimate fun in the sun.

So, what do you say? Let’s make this the year of turning daydreams into decked-out reality. Ready, set, cruise— 2024, here we come!

The Valley of the romantic Rhine, the Moselle and the Main (port-to-port cruise) Tour

The Valley of the romantic Rhine, the Moselle and the Main (port-to-port cruise)

Booking through TourRadar was easy and convenient. This was our third European river cruise with three different cruise lines ( Gate 1 and A-Rosa were the others). We sailed on the Lafayette. The best thing about this cruise was the staff. They were all excellent. Special mention to Eniko, Anna, Mailyse, Isabella, and Katia. The cabin was a fair size and the bathroom was large. Water pressure in the shower was excellent. The dining room was rather small and cramped. The breakfast was buffet while lunch and dinners were set menus of French cuisine. There was no choice of menu items (other than vegetarian meals arranged in advance). Breakfast coffee was surprisingly average to poor. Unlike our previous cruises there was no self-serve specialty coffee machines on board. As previous reviewers have mentioned most of the passengers speak French and there is little English translated even when the tour is advertised as being in both languages. My biggest complaint woul be the lack of food choices at dinner. While I’m in the minority of people who don’t appreciate French cuisine exclusively I believe the cruise experience would have been better if we were given some choice each night for meals.

What people love about Rhine River Cruises in May

The cruise was beautiful and very scenic especially the loreley strip. The restaurant staff were extremely friendly and warm. Special mention of Ida, Kenan and Sugana . The rest of the crew were very accommodating too. The tour leader Jessica and Jordi was super and helpful although we were the only few English speakers she made us feel included. On the whole it was a very beautiful experience although the rooms are a bit old design and the boat is not a very new but the staff were phenomenal .
I went on this cruise with my 83 year old mum, and we had the best time. The ship was very nice and the crew were all so friendly, from the Captain, to the mangement and reception staff, to the bar and wait staff, kitchen staff and room attendants - they felt like family by the end of our cruise. They also made a big celebration for my mum’s birthday ? Also a big shout out to Jessica, our cruise guide, and Renata the on board entertainer - both beautiful and accommodating ladies ❤️ We saw amazing places and beautiful scenery. The food was first class and the cocktails amazing. I would recommend this cruise to anyone.

Itineraries

Brindisi, italy.

Known as the “Gateway to the East,” Brindisi is one of the largest cities in Italy’s Apulia region and one of the most active trading hubs in the country. Located on the Adriatic coast of Southern Italy, Brindisi will greet you with its crystal-clear waters and historic city views. After the bombings of World War II, the city spent many years rebuilding and now hosts a unique mix of historic and contemporary architecture, including churches and castles like Castello Alfonsino, the Church of Santa Maria del Casale, Santa Maria del Casale, and the Forte a Mare Castle. Beautiful beaches, like Lido Azzurro and Torre Guaceto, are also close by and will offer you a great place to relax.

Bordeaux (Pauillac), France

A destination for wine-lovers, food-lovers, and city ramblers, southern French city and wine region Bordeaux will offer you much more than only its famous red wine. With stunning classical, neo-classical, and urban architecture, historical monuments, incredible art museums, and a buzzing dining and drinking scene, this port city and UNESCO World Heritage site rivals the likes of Paris.

Kavala, Greece

Tucked into the northeastern coast of mainland Greece, just below the Bulgarian border, the hillside city of Kavala overlooks the Aegean Sea and is the main seaport of eastern Macedonia. Kavala will offer you a surprising mix of history, culture, and architecture—archeological sites, monuments, cobblestone streets, wooden balconies lined with flowers, colorful palaces, and hilltop fortresses—as well as diverse landscapes like lush wetlands, lagoons, inland lakes, beaches, and diverse flora and fauna.

Trieste, Italy

Old-World Trieste—a city that draws attention from travelers around the world—sits at a northeastern corner of Italy and brings together the Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures of the Adriatic Sea. The Roman and Byzantine empires ruled here once upon a time, and their influences can be seen in the different types of architecture of the cityscape. You can experience Trieste's many cultures through its cozy coffeehouses, seafood restaurants, open-air plazas, Old World churches, and museums.

Volos, Greece

Volos, Greece's newest port city, is located at the foot of Mount Pelion and the innermost point of the Pagasetic Gulf. As an important industrial center and bridge between Europe and Asia, this lively seafront destination offers you many things to discover—local cultural activities, museums, cafes, restaurants, and an exciting nightlife area. You will also enjoy its unique architecture, nearby lush mountain ranges, and golden beaches.

Virgin Voyages to Announce Plans for Brilliant Lady

  • April 29, 2024

Brilliant Lady

Virgin Voyages is preparing to announce plans for its forthcoming ship, the Brilliant Lady. The 2,770-guest vessel was delivered to the company earlier this year but has remained out of service in Europe.

Now, Virgin appears ready to disclose more details about Brilliant’s inaugural season and future deployment.

In its social media profiles and main website, the company recently published teaser videos that promise “something brilliant coming.”

Virgin Voyages said that the announcement will include “epic news,” as well as new ports. The video also shows silhouettes of destinations landmarks across North America, including Seattle’s Space Needle, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Sign and New York City’s Statue of Liberty.

The news will be unveiled on May 1, 2024, during a live transmission on Virgin Voyages’ website.

Built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the Brilliant Lady is the fourth vessel in the company’s Lady Ship series.

Initially scheduled to debut in late 2023, the 140,000-ton cruise ship had its inaugural season canceled in September .

At the time, the company stated that unexpected construction, supply chain and staffing challenges led to the decision.

“We want to make sure that when the ship launches, we can deliver the standards our Sailors have come to expect from an award-winning brand like Virgin Voyages,” the company added.

A new launch date was not immediately determined, and the vessel has remained out of service in Italy since its delivery.

With three ships currently in service, Virgin Voyages offers year-round itineraries in the Caribbean and seasonal programs in the Mediterranean.

After cancelling its upcoming winter season in Australia, the company also revealed plans to return to Northern Europe in August with a series of cruises departing from the United Kingdom onboard the Resilient Lady.

The company offers an adults-only product designed to provide “the intimate and elevated experience of a boutique hotel at sea.”

Cruise Conference 2024 - 13th - 16th May Stockholm

I am delighted to welcome our loyal members, cruise line executives, press and other stakeholders to Stockholm. Following very successful Cruise Europe Conferences in Edinburgh and Lisbon, our members have decided that this years port of call is Stockholm. Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe located right between the lake Mälaren and the Baltic sea. You are never far from the water in this fantastic city, and the archipelago is a must see attraction. Stockholm is also a vibrant and modern Scandinavic city with Michelin star cuisine, bars and nightlife. Add cultural attractions like the Vasa Museum and you have a world class destination. Stockholm is a marquee cruise port, and is very often included in itineraries to the Baltic sea. At Cruise Europe, we want to support our loyal Baltic members who have seen a reduction in the number of calls since the Ukraine war started. We will highlight the many benefits of taking a cruise in the Baltic sea in our 3 days Cruise Europe Conference in Stockholm. Welcome to the Cruise Europe Conference.

Jens Skrede, Managing Director of Cruise Europe

Destination Stockholm

Built on 14 islands surrounded by vast open water, Stockholm has a unique and unforgettable character. You might be in a cosmopolitan capital city but you’re never far from a picturesque park or other scenic walking spot. We have an impressive selection of historic sights and attractions, art galleries and museums - many within easy walking distance of one another.

Not to mention, our city is widely publicized as one of the world’s most dynamic, creative and exciting metropolises. Stockholm is the birthplace of cutting-edge fashion and design, a gastronomic hotspot with myriad bars and restaurants, and a capital of culture where music and art flourish.

Ports of Stockholm make the perfect choice for cruise calls. Situated in the heart of the Baltic region, there’s everything you need for pre- and post-cruise stays in close proximity, including first-rate hotels, frequent overseas flight connections and effective ground handling and tour services.

Among the world’s largest passenger ports, Ports of Stockholm provides facilities and services for ferry, cruise and freight traffic in Stockholm, Nynäshamn and Kapellskär. In a normal year, 16 million passengers pass through the ports, the majority of them sailing to and from Finland, the Baltics, Poland and Sweden’s largest island, Gotland. Approximately half of all cruise liners visiting Stockholm each year call at Frihamnen. Stockholm Cruise Centre Frihamnen is a modern cruise terminal dedicated to turnarounds, with the Freeport Cruise Terminal equipped to accommodate high numbers of passengers simultaneously arriving and departing. Welcome to Stockholm!

Norwegian cruise mogul’s success secrets: Focus on the wealthy and absolutely no kids allowed

Viking cruise at the French Mediterannean port of Marseille.

Torstein Hagen founded his cruise line with a few simple principles in mind. Among them: focus on the wealthy and intellectually curious; no nickel-and-diming; and no kids.

Almost three decades on, his Viking Holdings Ltd. is among the world’s biggest luxury cruise operators, and Hagen’s fortune will surpass $5 billion as the company completes its initial public offering in New York.

Viking  raised  $1.54 billion from the oversubscribed share sale, showing that investors are willing to pour money into a sector that was decimated by the Covid pandemic and now is rebounding.

The shares  priced near the top  of the marketed range, according to a  regulatory filing , valuing the company at around $10.4 billion. Hagen controls roughly half of the shares, making him the second-richest person in the industry after Carnival Corp. Chairman Micky Arison, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The listing also marks the pinnacle of an endeavor that, in Hagen’s  words , began with “two guys with two mobile phones and four river ships” seeking to woo customers who sought “more than just a vacation.” As the 81-year-old chief executive officer has often told journalists: Viking cruises are for the thinking person, not the drinking person.

Viking representatives didn’t respond to requests for comment on Bloomberg’s calculation of Hagen’s fortune.

Physics Degree

Born near Oslo, Hagen earned a degree in physics from the Norwegian Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard University. After a stint in management consulting, he entered the cruise industry in the 1970s. Around two decades later, following multiple failed attempts to help buy or otherwise take control over cruise lines with different investor groups, Hagen led the purchase of the four river ships and formed Viking.

The company initially focused on cruises along rivers up and down Europe before expanding into ocean travel and special expeditions to places like Antarctica and the US Great Lakes. Based in Bermuda, Viking today operates 92 vessels and employs more than 10,000 people.

Its target customers: affluent English speakers aged 55 or older, with time and money to explore the world. Last year, 90% of its clients came from North America, according to the company’s registration statement. In the US, the 55-plus cohort holds around three-quarters of the country’s household wealth, Federal Reserve  data  show.

In recent years, Viking has sold stakes to the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and alternative-asset manager TPG Inc. Both offloaded more shares in the offering than initially anticipated, according to a  filing .

Read More: TPG, CPPIB Are Said to Weigh Offering More Shares in Viking IPO

Hagen didn’t sell stock. His daughter, Karine, who has been working for Viking since it was founded and is now executive vice president, will control a small stake of less than 1%.

Viking said proceeds from the offering will be used to “increase our capitalization and financial flexibility” given its “substantial indebtedness.” It had $5.4 billion of debt at the end of 2023.

In a letter to shareholders included in the registration statement, Hagen noted the company sees big growth potential among consumers in China and elsewhere around Asia. That would go beyond “China Outbound,” the cruise offering in Europe with full crews of Mandarin speakers that Viking launched in 2016. The firm is also exploring safaris and land tours.

“We view Viking as the premier provider of travel experiences for thinking people,” the billionaire wrote in the letter. “We do not try to be all things to all people.”

Princess Cruises Sails to Prime Viewing Spot for 2026 Total Solar Eclipse in Europe

By downloading this image you agree to the Princess asset use terms and conditions

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.,  (May 3, 2024) – Astrotourism is top of mind for travelers making special trips for phenomenal experiences in the sky—and with the recent “take-your-breath-away” total solar eclipse, thousands of cruisers onboard Emerald Princess and Discovery Princess off the coast of Mexico caught a glimpse of the astounding total darkness event.

The next, not-to-be-missed total solar eclipse takes place on August 12, 2026, and once again a Princess cruise ship will be perfectly positioned, this time in northern Spain, to witness this bucket list event - two minutes and 18 seconds of totality. The 3,660-guest Sky Princess departs Southampton August 8, 2026, on a 14-day Mediterranean cruise, highlighted with total eclipse viewing while the ship is in its path at sea off the coast of Spain.

“The best way to see a total solar eclipse is via cruise ship, and our guests who recently experienced this rare occurrence on Discovery Princess and Emerald Princess were simply blown away,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “We make it easy for guests to come aboard, relax and meet other eclipse enthusiasts. It’s truly a special opportunity.”

The Total Eclipse Sky Princess Voyage goes on sale May 23, 2024, with rates starting at $2,199* per person. During the eclipse, Sky Princess guests will gather on the top decks with Princess safety glasses for viewing, as well as enjoy lectures from astronomy experts, themed treats and drinks, stargazing at night, solar system trivia and more.

This incredible, 14-day Mediterranean cruise sailing takes place August 8-22, 2026, roundtrip from Southampton (London), and visits seven historical and vibrant ports, including:

  • Cherbourg, France - one of France’s greatest ports with art and history museums, its basilica, the Ravalet castle and the Cité de la Mer maritime museum.
  • Bilbao, Spain – located in northern Spain, Bilbao is surrounded by green mountains and is the de facto capital of Basque Country, with a skyscraper-filled downtown. It’s famed for the Frank Gehry–designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
  • Malaga, Spain - famous as Picasso's birthplace and the gateway to Spain's Costa del Sol, Malaga mixes warm vacation vibes with Andalusia's indomitable spirit.
  • Cartagena, Spain - founded by the Carthaginians around 220 B.C., the city boomed during the Roman period. Among its many Roman ruins are a 1st-century B.C. theater and Casa de la Fortuna, a villa with murals and mosaics.
  • Gibraltar – this British Overseas Territory and headland is located on Spain's south coast. It’s dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 1,398-foot limestone ridge.
  • Lisbon, Portugal – the capital and largest city of Portugal, Lisbon is mainland Europe's westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast.
  • La Coruña, Spain – in the Galicia region of northwest Spain, it’s known for its Roman lighthouse, the Tower of Hercules, which has sweeping coastal views.

“Our recent solar eclipse cruises were completely sold out so interested guests should book this Sky Princess cruise as soon as it opens on May 23. It truly will be an experience to remember,” Padgett added.
