GREY WOLF 26 DBH Travel Trailer Review (with pictures!)

This post is a little belated, but we’re excited to announce we recently traded in our sweet Bessie (a Coachmen Apex Nano 193 bhs) to the new Grey Wolf 26 DBH travel trailer (name TBD – we’re taking suggestions in the comments section below!).

When we bought Bessie, a couple of factors were at play: 1) our tow vehicle could only tow 4500 pounds, which drastically reduced the number of travel trailers we could choose from. 2) We were new to the whole “glamping” thing, and wanted to make sure we really enjoyed it before we invested too much time and resources.

After a couple of years of camping in our travel trailer, we were hooked. And also realized we needed something slightly larger. Our two boys are growing like weeds, and the single bunk model just wasn’t comfortable for them anymore. Plus, we needed a little more sitting room for those days when rain or other weather elements force you inside for more than just sleeping.

We went to Bob Ledford’s Adventure Motorhomes in Greer, SC, and once again, they got us exactly what we needed. We looked at a new used and new models, and ultimately landed on the 2019 Grey Wolf 26 DBH travel trailer.

Here were the things we liked most when we saw it for the first time:

• Double over double bunk beds mean our growing boys have more room to sleep and spread out
• Larger bathroom with separate shower and sink area (instead of connecting from the shower to the sink with a hose)
• Comfortable dinette area, which converts into a bed
• Two-person couch which also converts into a bed (this was key, because our boys want to start to bring friends along on trips, and this gives us extra sleeping areas to put them!)
• Kitchen area featuring an oven, stove and more counter top space
• STORAGE! Lots more storage than we had before, including a pantry right near the kitchen area
• Separate bedroom for us, the parents, with a queen bed, and more storage options
• And last, but not least, a built-in electric “fireplace.” This was included in the model we selected – and we certainly could’ve done without it. But I’m not going to lie, this has been one of our favorite things to use on chilly mornings and cool nights! It even has a remote control to operate it, and make it change LED colors. Totally unnecessary and fun.

You might be wondering how we’re able to tow this larger travel trailer. Gib traded in his Jeep Wrangler for a Toyota Tundra, which gave us a lot more towing capacity. The Grey Wolf clocks in with a 6500 pound dry weight, so we had plenty of room to work with – a blessing for Gib who had some white knuckle moments trying to get my little SUV to go up a hill carrying our old camper!

Other fun features the Grey Wolf offers are:

• Awning with blue LED lights (the LED lights are also inside – it sort of gives the whole thing a Vegas nightclub feel, which we think is kind of funny).
• Indoor/outdoor speakers connected to Bluetooth
• Two large under trailer storage bays
• Outdoor shower connection (good for hosing off feet or the dog when coming back from an adventure)
• Dual entry way – one in the rear of the trailer near the bunks and one off of the bedroom
• One slide out making the trailer feel really spacious
• Electric tongue jack (my husband might like this the best after our previous manual tongue jack!)
• Double propane tank (great in case one goes out in the middle of the night)

This particular model does NOT have an outdoor kitchen. We did look at some travel trailers with this feature. But after talking about it, we just weren’t sure we really needed it and/or would use it.

In our old travel trailer, even though it was a newer model, the decor was just hideous (think 1970s, and not in a fun way). We had to do some redecorating just to make it tolerable.

But this model came nicely equipped – I love all of the windows that let in so much natural light. We don’t have to do much at all in the way of decorating to make it feel like home.

We’ve already taken the Grey Wolf on a couple of trips this year, and I can already tell this is going to be our home on wheels for a while. We never felt cramped, even after a week at the beach. Everyone had plenty of room to spread out, and it didn’t get as cluttered as quickly since there is so much storage to put things away.

We can wait to hit the road on some more adventures in 2019! What features do you like most about your travel trailer, fifth-wheel or RV? This light weight couples camper is something special! A well designed open floor plan makes this unit feel spacious even with a small footprint. The extra-large U-shaped dinette and huge rear window makes this unit stand out from its peers. Add in modern kitchen appliances, full sized bathroom, walk around queen bed, and ample storage space to give you a dynamic and space saving RV.

Specifications Definitions

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) – is the maximum permissible weight, including cargo, fluids, optional equipment and accessories that can be safely supported by a combination of all axles.

UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight)* - is the typical weight of the unit as manufactured at the factory. It includes all weight at the unit’s axle(s) and tongue or pin and LP Gas. The UVW does not include cargo, fresh potable water, additional optional equipment or dealer installed accessories. *Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity)** - is the amount of weight available for fresh potable water, cargo, additional optional equipment and accessories. CCC is equal to GVWR minus UVW. Available CCC should accommodate fresh potable water (8.3 lbs per gallon). Before filling the fresh water tank, empty the black and gray tanks to provide for more cargo capacity. **Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

Each Forest River RV is weighed at the manufacturing facility prior to shipping. A label identifying the unloaded vehicle weight of the actual unit and the cargo carrying capacity is applied to every Forest River RV prior to leaving our facilities.

The load capacity of your unit is designated by weight, not by volume, so you cannot necessarily use all available space when loading your unit.
