21 Top Cruise Songs to Get You in the Mood for Cruising

Do you have a particular song that plays in your head when you think of cruising? Maybe you even have more than one, like a Cruise Playlist.

I don’t know about you, but as my cruise approaches, I get “prepared” in a couple of ways.

1. The practical

I’m all about the packing lists, shore excursion planning (plus some pre-cruise shopping).

2. The psychological/emotional

I’m serious about this one. I get myself (and my family) in the mood by having a fun attitude and playing some cruise music.

Sometimes I even sing, although not well, so I won’t be entering any cruise karaoke contests.

Favorite Cruise Inspired Songs

It got me thinking, so many cruisers have a cruise playlist of favorite cruise inspired songs. They can be great to listen to before your cruise, as you travel to your cruise ship, or even during times you’re not cruising if you’ve got a little bit of the post-cruise blues .

If you’re creating a cruise vacation video, you may want to use some cruise songs to go along with your fabulous photos, videos and cruise memories.

After scouring the internet and cruise message boards, I’ve put together a cruise playlist. It includes some popular current songs, as well as some cruising classics.  Plus, I’ve included my favorites too!

Top 21 Favorite Cruising Songs

1. cruising together.

By: Huey Lewis and Gweneth Paltrow

This is my very favorite cruise song that I listen to when I’m thinking about cruising (which could be anytime). It’s sweet, it’s romantic, and I love it. Corny and all.

“Music is played for love, cruisin’ is made for love. I love it when we’re cruisin’ together…”

2. The Love Boat

By: Jack Jones

Did you know that there is a long version of The Love Boat Theme Song as well as a short version? Oh, and there’s more than that.

If you look this one up on YouTube, you’ll be able to find many of the show openings, where the guest stars appear. It’s pretty fun to go down memory lane like this.

“The Love Boat, soon will be making another run…”

3. Cupid Shuffle

If you’ve cruised in the last 10-15 years, you’ve definitely heard this one!

The Cupid Shuffle is the ultimate cruise line dancing song at Embarkation Day Sailaway Parties. I have to admit, if I hear it, I’m on the dance floor!

“They got a brand new dance, you’ve got to move your muscle. They’ve got a brand new dance, it’s called the Cupid Shuffle…”

4. Cha Cha Slide

By: Mr. C. The Slide Man

I actually just came off an 11 day Celebrity Cruise, and even danced to this there as part of the sea day pool activities .

For real, I’m not a great dancer and not super coordinated, but I can follow directions ;-).

Sing it with me now “Freeze – everybody clap your hands! ”

5. Come Sail Away

How can you not get wistful when you hear Come Sail Away?

“I look to the sea, reflections in the ways, spark my memories. Some happy, some sad. I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had…”

6. My Heart Will Go On

By: Celine Dion

I have a confession. It took me years to finally see The Titanic. But when I did, it was better than I thought it would be!

That moment, Jack and Rose at the bow of the ship. Chills.

“Near far, wherever you are, I believe that the heart does go on…”

*Bonus Cruise Fact

Did you know that the Titanic movie is integral to the origin story of today’s Cunard Line?

Micky Arison (chairman of Carnival Corporation) was convinced by his daughter, after she saw Titanic, that people wanted and craved the nostalgia of old world cruising.

Take a look at this video below and listen to Micky tell the story better than I can:

7. Margaritaville

By: Jimmy Buffet

If you’ve cruised the Caribbean, you know that Jimmy Buffett IS the Caribbean.

I think of Jimmy Buffet every time I have a frozen cocktail at 11 am on a cruise. Seriously, it’s 5 O’clock somewhere , right?

“Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville, Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt…”

By: The Beach Boys

If you love the beach, crystal clear waters and a good time, I know you love this song!

How many places have you been?

“Aruba, Jamaica, oooh I wanna take ya. Bermuda, Bahamas, come on pretty mama…”

9. Soak Up the Sun

By: Sheryl Crow

A light summer song, Soak Up the Sun makes me think of sea days by the pool and gorgeous days on the beach.

Does life get better than that?

“I’m gonna’ soak up the sun, gonna tell everyone to lighten up…”

10. (Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay

By: Otis Redding

Oh, I love this. What a classic! “Sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away…”

The Dock of the Bay has be remade several times, by several artists, and I love the original by Otis Redding.

However, I thought I’d share one of my favorite versions in video by Playing for Change. It’s interesting to see and hear from different musicians all over the world.

11. Sailing

By: Rod Stewart

Sailing by Rod Stewart is a must-listen for anyone who loves to cruise and sail. It’s a pretty one.

“I am sailing, I am sailing, home again across the sea…”

12. Under the Sea

By: The Little Mermaid (Walt Disney Records)

This one’s for the kids, (or anyone who feels like a kid sometimes and still loves it).

Plus, there are some wise words… “The seaweed is always greener, in somebody else’s lake…”

13. 3 Little Birds

By: Bob Marley

Close your eyes and imagine the pool band playing…

“Singing don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing’s gonna be all right…”

14. La Isla Bonita

By: Madonna

This is where my “eighties girl” really shows through. I love some old school Madonna including Holiday (right?) and Cherish, but La Isla Bonita seems to be a favorite of many cruise fans.

That beat…

“Tropical the island breeze, all of nature wild and free. This is where I long to be, la Isla Bonita.”

15. Somewhere over the Rainbow

By: Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole

This is a beautiful and version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, with a tropical sound.

Sadly, Israel has passed away, but he’s left his music, voice and hopeful message for us to enjoy.

“Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly. and that the dreams that you dream of, dreams really do come true…”

16. Escape – The Pina Colada Song

By: Rupert Holmes

This fun song with possibly controversial lyrics is a cheesy favorite of mine.

It got me at “If you like Pina Coladas”. Yup! Anyone else?

17. Sailing

By: Christopher Cross

Imagine sitting at the back of your cruise ship staring into the wake. Doesn’t this song just say it all?

“Sailing takes me away to where I’ve always heard it could be…” The rest of the song is pure poetry!

18. Voyage Voyage

by: Desireless

This French song just gets me. While it’s not exclusively about cruising, it talks of the adventure of travel and has a fun eighties sound that totally sticks in my head.

If you don’t know it, give it a listen.

“Voyage, voyage. Plus loin que la nuit et le jour…”

Translation: “ Travel, travel. Further than the night and the day…”

19. Sea Cruise

By: Frankie Ford

An oldie but a goodie. Sea Cruise by Frankie topped the charts in 1959!

“Oo-ey, oo-ey, baby, oo-ey, oo-ey baby… won’t you let me take you on a sea cruise.”

20. Toes (in the Water)

By: Zac Brown Band

Here’s one for Country Music fans!

Confession: I have NEVER heard this song before. However, this is definitely a favorite cruise playlist song for many! I’ve got to say, I could get into this!

“Got my toes in the water, a** in the sand. Not a worry in a world of cold beer in my hand. Life is good today.”

21. No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems

By: Kenny Chesney

Does this make you think of a relaxed beach day and some time at the beach bar? Sounds like a great vacation day ahead!

“The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand…”

Affordable comfort: why inside cabins are perfect for cruisers.

' src=

Have you ever come across a type of cabin that can significantly reduce your cruising expenses by hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars? Allow me to introduce you to the ideal choice: interior cabins. These hidden gems are the essence of affordable luxury. Not only are they the most cost-effective option available, but they also offer a snug retreat for a restful night’s sleep.

And here’s the best part: they have no natural light, making them ideal for those of us who are easily woken up by daylight. Now, you might be thinking, ‘But won’t I feel claustrophobic?’ Not at all! Inside cabins offer just enough space to feel comfortable, and let’s be honest, most of the time on a cruise is spent outside the cabin anyway.

So why spend extra for a larger room when you can save that money for other aspects of your vacation or even book another cruise? Inside cabins are the way to go for solo travelers too, providing a cost-effective and spacious option. Trust me, you won’t regret choosing an inside cabin for your next cruise adventure.

Key Takeaways

  • Inside cabins are the cheapest option for booking a cruise, saving hundreds or thousands of dollars compared to other categories.
  • Inside cabins provide ideal sleeping conditions with no natural light, making them perfect for those who get woken up by daylight.
  • Inside cabins are not minuscule and offer enough space to be comfortable, with some cabins able to accommodate up to 4 guests.
  • Inside cabins are a cost-effective option for solo travelers, families, and budget-conscious travelers, providing a comfortable and affordable option for sleeping.

Benefits of Inside Cabins

I love inside cabins because they provide affordable comfort and are perfect for cruisers who prioritize activities over room size. When comparing inside cabins to balcony cabins, the price difference is significant. Inside cabins are the cheapest option, saving you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

This means you can use the money you save for other aspects of your vacation or even another cruise. Inside cabins are also ideal for light sleepers. With no natural light, they offer perfect sleeping conditions. You won’t be woken up by daylight, ensuring a restful night’s sleep.

So, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option that still offers comfort and a good night’s sleep, inside cabins are the way to go.

Space and Comfort

With enough room to stretch out and relax, inside cabins create a cozy sanctuary for weary travelers, like a warm embrace after a long day. Inside cabins may not have windows, but they’re not as cramped as some may think. They offer enough space for a comfortable stay, maximizing every inch.

Here are four ways inside cabins provide cozy accommodations while maximizing space:

Inside cabins provide affordable comfort without compromising on space or coziness. They’re a smart choice for cruisers looking to maximize their vacation experience while staying within their budget.

Cost-Effective Option

Opting for an inside cabin can be a budget-friendly choice for travelers seeking a cost-effective option. Not only do inside cabins offer affordability, but they also provide excellent sleeping conditions. Without any natural light, these cabins create a dark and quiet environment, perfect for a good night’s rest.

And let’s be honest, when it comes to a cruise vacation, most of our time is spent outside the cabin. Whether it’s exploring the ship or enjoying the various activities onboard and on land, the cabin becomes a place to sleep, shower, and get dressed. So why spend extra money on a larger room when you won’t be spending much time there?

Inside cabins are the ideal choice for solo travelers or families looking to save money without compromising on comfort.

An image that showcases a cruise ship's deck, revealing a variety of cabin options with different sizes, layouts, and views

I have always fantasized about embarking on a lavish cruise journey, yet selecting the ideal cabin can sometimes seem daunting. However, worry no more, as I am here to offer guidance!

When it comes to selecting the right cabin, there are several factors to consider. From cabin types and cost, to vacation style and special groups of cabins, each decision plays a crucial role in creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

So, let’s dive in and explore the key factors to consider when choosing the perfect cruise cabin.

  • Different cabin types offer different experiences and prices increase as you move up in cabin type.
  • Consider your vacation style and special groups of cabins that align with your preferences.
  • Cabin location and noise can affect your sleep quality, so choose a quieter spot and consider the location on the ship.
  • Deck level and cabin size/layout are important factors to consider for convenience and comfort.

Cabin Types and Cost

I’m considering the different cabin types and their costs to find the perfect fit for my cruise.

When comparing cabin sizes, I have a few options to choose from. The interior cabin is the smallest and doesn’t have any windows, but it’s also the most affordable.

If I want a view, I can opt for an oceanview cabin, which features a window and offers more space.

For a little more luxury, I can choose a balcony room with a small private balcony.

And if I really want to splurge, I can go for a suite, which can vary widely in size and amenities.

When it comes to choosing the right cabin location, I need to consider my preferences.

Rooms at the ends of the ship have less foot traffic and are quieter, which is great for those who value peace and quiet.

The location of my cabin on the ship, whether it’s forward, middle, or aft, can also affect my convenience and access to amenities.

Vacation Style and Special Groups of Cabins

For my specific vacation plans, I should consider if a nicer, roomier cabin is worth the extra cost.

When it comes to vacation style and special groups of cabins, there are two options that stand out: Haven rooms and Havana rooms.

Haven rooms are available on Norwegian Cruise Line ships and offer a more luxurious experience with exclusive amenities like a private pool and concierge service.

On the other hand, Havana rooms are found on Carnival ships and provide a unique experience with access to a private Cuban-inspired outdoor area.

When deciding between an interior room and a suite room, it’s important to consider your preferences and budget.

Interior rooms are more affordable, while suite rooms offer more space and amenities.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if the extra cost is worth the added comfort and luxury for your vacation.

Cabin Location and Noise

Having a cabin located at the end of the ship’s hallway can provide a quieter spot for my room, as there is less foot traffic and noise. This can significantly enhance my cruise experience and ensure a better quality of sleep. When choosing the right deck level, it is important to consider convenience and easy access to amenities. Staying on a medium to high-level deck is ideal, as it offers a good balance between shops, restaurants, activities, and outdoor features like pools and bars. It is also important to take into account the size and layout of the cabin. Larger cabins provide more space and comfort, while the layout can affect the functionality and overall comfort of the room. By considering these factors, I can choose a cabin location and deck level that suits my preferences and ensures a more enjoyable cruise experience.

Deck Level and Cabin Size/Layout

When selecting a cabin, it’s important to take into account the deck level and the size/layout of the room. Choosing the right deck level can provide convenience during your cruise.

Staying on a medium-level deck offers easy access to shops, restaurants, and activities, while still allowing you to enjoy outdoor features like pools and bars on higher decks.

Consider the size and functionality of the cabin layout as well. Larger cabins provide more space and comfort, allowing you to move around freely. The layout of the cabin can also affect your overall experience, with some cabins offering unique features or amenities.

Additional Cabin Amenities and Overall Experience

I prioritize cabin amenities that enhance my overall cruise experience, such as private balconies or hot tubs. When choosing a cruise cabin, it’s important to consider the additional amenities and how they can contribute to your overall enjoyment. Here are a few key factors to keep in mind:

Considering these amenities when choosing your cruise cabin can ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience onboard.

Proximity to Amenities and Attractions

When choosing the perfect cruise cabin, it’s important to consider the proximity to amenities and attractions on the ship. Being close to the things you enjoy can enhance your overall cruise experience.

However, it’s also important to be aware of potential drawbacks. Cabins near noisy areas like nightclubs or basketball courts may be subject to more noise disturbance. Additionally, rooms adjoining loud public spaces may also be less ideal.

To make an informed decision, it’s crucial to conduct thorough research. Look at the ship’s deck plan to see what is around your chosen cabin and consider any potential pros and cons.

Noise Considerations

The location of a cabin on a cruise ship can significantly impact the level of noise experienced during the trip. Noise reduction techniques are important to consider when choosing a cabin. The impact of cabin location on noise levels can vary depending on factors such as hallway traffic, proximity to amenities, and the ship’s layout. To provide a deeper understanding, let’s take a look at a table comparing the noise levels in different cabin locations:

As shown in the table, cabins located in the forward section of the ship generally experience lower noise levels, while cabins in the aft section tend to have higher noise levels. The middle section falls somewhere in between. It’s important to consider your preferences for peace and quiet when selecting a cabin location. Additionally, noise reduction techniques such as soundproofing materials and insulation can also play a role in reducing noise levels inside the cabin.

Cabin Size and Accommodations for Groups

Booking for three or more people ensures cabins that can accommodate everyone. When booking a cruise cabin for a group, it’s important to consider the cabin configurations and group booking options available.

Some cruise ships offer cabins specifically designed for larger groups, with multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas. These cabins provide the perfect solution for families or friends traveling together, as everyone can stay in the same space while still having their own privacy.

Group booking options also often come with additional perks and amenities, such as priority embarkation, dedicated dining areas, and exclusive access to certain onboard activities.

It’s essential to discuss your group’s needs and preferences with the cruise line or travel agent to find the best cabin option for your party.

Accessible Cabins for Passengers With Mobility Issues

When it comes to choosing the perfect cruise cabin, it’s important to consider the needs of all passengers, including those with mobility issues. Cruise ships offer accessible cabins that are designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities and provide a comfortable and convenient experience. These cabins come with a range of accessible features, such as wider doorways, accessible bathrooms with roll-in showers or grab bars, and lower closet rods and light switches.

Booking an accessible cabin is usually a straightforward process. Most cruise lines allow passengers to book these cabins online, just like any other cabin type. However, due to limited availability, it’s recommended to book accessible cabins early to ensure availability.

To summarize, here are some key points about accessible cabins and their booking process:

  • Accessible cabins come with features like wider doorways and accessible bathrooms.
  • Booking an accessible cabin can usually be done online, like any other cabin type.
  • It’s important to book accessible cabins early due to limited availability.
  • Accessibility features in these cabins ensure a comfortable and convenient experience for passengers with mobility issues.
  • Cruise lines are a great option for passengers with special needs, as they provide accessible cabins and prioritize the comfort of all passengers.

Choosing Your Own Cabin Vs. Letting the Cruise Line Select

I prefer to select my own cabin on a cruise rather than letting the cruise line choose for me. When it comes to choosing a cabin, there are two important factors to consider: vacation style and cabin location.

Your vacation style should influence your choice of cabin type. If you won’t spend much time in the cabin, an interior room may be suitable. However, if you enjoy peace and quiet or plan on a longer cruise, a nicer, roomier cabin may be worth it.

In terms of cabin location, rooms at the ends of the ship have less foot traffic and are quieter. Additionally, choosing the location of your cabin on the ship, whether it’s forward, middle, or aft, can also impact your overall experience.

Are There Any Discounts or Promotions Available for Booking Certain Cabin Types?

Yes, there are often discounts and promotions available for booking certain cabin types. It’s important to check with the cruise line or your travel agent for current availability and any special offers.

Can I Request a Specific Cabin Location on the Ship?

Yes, you can request a specific cabin location on the ship. It’s important to communicate your cabin location preferences to the cruise line when booking. Availability may vary, but they will try to accommodate your request.

Are There Any Age Restrictions for Certain Cabin Types or Special Groups of Cabins?

There are no age restrictions for certain cabin types or special groups of cabins. However, it’s important to check with the specific cruise line or ship to ensure that all members of your group are eligible to stay in the desired cabin.

Is There a Limit to the Number of People Allowed in a Cabin?

Yes, there is typically a limit to the number of people allowed in a cabin. Cabin size varies, but most cabins on a cruise ship can accommodate two to four occupants comfortably.

What Is the Process for Upgrading or Changing Cabins After Booking?

To upgrade or change cabins after booking, contact the cruise line directly. They will assist you in finding available options and provide information on any additional costs or fees.

The best songs for your cruise ship playlist

As anyone who has been on a cruise knows, the music on the ship can make or break your experience. While some ships have great DJs and live bands, others stick to pre-recorded music that can get old fast. If you’re in charge of the music on your next cruise, make sure to mix things up with a variety of genres and artists to keep everyone happy.

The type of music you play on a cruise ship can have a big impact on the overall atmosphere of the trip. Up-tempo, energetic songs will get passengers out on the dance floor and help them to work up an appetite for dinner. If you want to create a more relaxed atmosphere, then softer, slower songs may be more appropriate. At night, you might choose to play some classics that passengers can sing along to as they enjoy a drink at the bar. Ultimately, the best way to select cruise ship music is to consider the overall tone that you want to set for the trip. By carefully curated your playlist , you can ensure that your music sets the perfect mood for your cruise.

The mood you want your music to set on a Caribbean cruise

While the Caribbean is known for its relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, there’s still a lot of variety in the types of moods that can be found from one island to the next. When choosing music for a Caribbean cruise, it’s important to consider the overall tone that you want to set for your trip. If you’re looking for a party atmosphere, then upbeat reggae and calypso are sure to get passengers on their feet and dancing. For a more romantic vibe, smooth jazz and Bossa Nova provide the perfect soundtrack for sunset strolls on the beach . And if you’re just hoping to relax and soak up the sun, then some mellow island tunes are all you need to set the right mood. No matter what kind of atmosphere you’re hoping to create, there’s sure to be some perfect Caribbean music to match.

Music for Cruising the Norwegian Fjords

If you’re planning a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords , one of the first things you’ll need to decide is what kind of music to pack. While the scenery alone is enough to take your breath away, the right soundtrack can enhance the experience and make it even more memorable.

There are a few factors to consider when choosing the best music for your Norwegian Fjords cruise. First, think about the type of atmosphere you want to create. Do you want something relaxing and mellow to enjoy while sailing through tranquil waters? Or are you looking for something a little more upbeat to get you excited for days spent exploring onshore? Second, consider the length of your cruise. If you’re only sailing for a few days, you might want to focus on packing a few key songs that will really set the mood. But if you’re embarking on a longer voyage, you’ll have more time to explore different genres and styles of music.

Cruising through the Norwegian Fjords

Norwegian cruises offer a wide variety of destinations and activities, so there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to choosing the perfect playlist. However, we’ve put together a list of some great songs that are perfect for setting the tone on a Norwegian cruise. Whether you’re looking for something soothing or upbeat, these tunes are sure to get you in the cruising spirit.

List of Songs for Cruise Ship Playlist

Here are some suggestions for songs to include on your cruise ship playlist:

  • Come Sail Away – Styx
  • Margaritaville – Jimmy Buffett
  • Cha Cha Slide – DJ Casper
  • Wouldn’t It Be Nice – Beach Boys. The Beach Boys are a California rock band formed in 1961. They are one of the most influential rock bands of all time. They are known for their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented themes, and singing about surfing and living the good life . They drew inspiration from older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B music to create their unique sound. Karaoke Song List

I always try to visit the karaoke bar, and have several songs that I like to sing and that I do a pretty good job on. They didn't have karaoke books on my cruises on the Breeze in December 2021 and February 2022 (probably a pandemic thing), but had a system where we would tell the DJ what song we wanted and the DJ would look it up in a database. There were a lot of songs they didn't have. Several of us waited forever after turning in our choices, only to be told that we had to pick alternate songs or that they were out of time. I was lunching at Cucina del Capitano in February and heard the Blake Shelton song Some Beach piped in over the PA, but when I asked for it at karaoke that night, they didn't have it. Don't get me wrong, Mustang Sally is a good song for me because it's in my range and is a crowd pleaser, but I like variety in my karaoke. I would like to know if they have a song before I fill out my slip and wait my turn.

Does anyone know which database Carnival uses for its karaoke?

BTW, they didn't have Blake Shelton's Some Beach or Hugh Jackman's The Greatest Show , but they did have Kyu Sakamoto's version of Sukiyaki in the original Japanese. The crowd was not that into it though.  🤪

You know that no one would have any idea or clue  to your question above unless they were the karaoke DJ and even then it could vary from ship to ship and  dj to dj.

Thank you for your input. Putting you down as a "No" then. LOL!

I don't know how you'd find out, but I'll agree that the song selection is really small. We even found our RCCL cruise a few months ago to be even smaller (like a 3 page binder). I'm not sure what's keeps them from subscribing to a service like your local karaoke bar. It is a pretty big draw daily on ships.

I can verify that they do have Rapper's Delight - the 8 minute version  😀

I learned last month that the song list was reduced because Carnival didn't want to pay more for the rights to use certain songs. This came from our fun squad person doing our karaoke.

Thanks

Thanks everybody. Other songs that they had on the Breeze were Tina Turner's Proud Mary , Irene Cara's Fame , and Etta James At Last . If I can remember some others, then I'll post them here.

I think I'm banned from singing Karaoke.   I don't want to say I'm a bad singer but when I sing in the shower, the water stops!

Cole, try requesting my favorite karaoke songs, Tequila and Pipeline (the Hawaii 5-O theme).  My critics never criticize my performance of those songs!

The Hawaii five-0 theme is not Pipeline. It was composed for the

tv show by Morty Stevens, who was an executive at CBS. The Ventures were the group he use a lot for TV themes. Don Ho sang a ballad version called "You Can Come with Me, and Sammy Davis Jr sang a fast tempo version he called "You Can Count on Me."

I enjoy karaoke in Manilla where they sing "Peelings, Nothing but Peelings," and also Tokyo where the favorite is "The Gleen, Gleen, Glass of Home."

The 1st time I did karaoke on a Carnival ship, after I was finished, the DJ remarked "You tried"  🤣

Yeah, it's a VERY limited database that is shared across all the ships. You're not going to find a whole lot of popular "park and bark" offerings from Adele, Whitney, Amy Winehouse, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, etc., so have a good three or four songs in mind right away.

I'm on the Vista right now, so I'm happy to ask later today. Also, if you're a karaoke person ... I'd advise you go to one of the later night karaoke sessions and chat with the host (it's almost always the same Fun Squad member throughout your cruise) and they'll be plenty happy to search through the database with you. I've got three songs now that I know will be available on any Carnival ship and while they aren't my favorite, I know I can perform them pretty well even when I'm at my Cheers limit.  🤣

I still have an old High Sea Karaoke song list posted by a CC member in 2018. The list was quite extensive, about 10 pages long with many popular hits old and new. Likely a collector item now due to ongoing cutback.

I like a lot of RR from the late 50's and 60's but they have very few songs there. SO, I do older country stuff but even that is limited. When i do find something I can sing it's usually a little over 2 minutes. Since a lot of the **** the younger people sing is often 5-8 minutes I should get to sing 2 songs. Anyway, even in my 70's I can hold a tune and enjoy singing a few numbers and I know how to get the crowd going.

INSIDER

I sailed on Carnival's new cruise ship. See all of its amenities — and why some are better than its pricier competitors

Posted: July 9, 2024 | Last updated: July 9, 2024

<p>But not being immediately upfront about the $1.50 tea bag and otherwise free options felt unecessarily deceitful.</p><p>In the company's defense, not everything had a price tag. Fun activities like the mini-golf course, waterslides, and fear-of-height-inducing ropes course were complimentary and great for forgetting how annoyed I was about "tea gate." </p>

  • I spent four nights on the new  Carnival Firenze cruise ship  in May.
  • The ship has plenty of free activities alongside enticing up-charged options.
  • Take a look at all the amenities on Carnival's new Italian-themed vessel.

Carnival's new Firenze cruise ship is filled with upcharged options. But if you look past them, you'll be pleasantly surprised by their complimentary activities.

The company's second Italy-themed ship came highly anticipated. In early April, Firenze's naming ceremony "triggered a step up in bookings," Josh Weinstein, the president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Line's parent company, Carnival Corp, told analysts in late June.

Two weeks after the ceremony, Carnival Firenze set sail on its maiden voyage from its homeport in Long Beach, California, marking the 27th vessel to join the cruise line's fleet.

This boost in bookings might not come as a surprise after seeing its prices.

New cruise ships generally command an inflated fare. But it seems the new 5,245-guest Firenze ignored this tradition, with 2024 fares currently starting at almost $360 per person for a four-night cruise.

Not too bad , given all of its amenities.

Firenze is more than just another towel animal-toting Carnival cruise.

In 2022, Carnival acquired Firenze and its sister ship from Costa Cruises. Firenze then underwent a two-month refresh to be outfitted with the "Carnival Fun Italian Style" theme.

If you're an American who loves campy European-themed venues — think a cheaper version of the Venetian in Las Vegas — Firenze could feel like an Italian getaway. The theme is hard to miss, from the white statues to the giant photos of Florence, Italy.

<p>I previously wrote a less-than-glowing <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-i-wont-sail-carnival-cruise-again-firenze-food-2024-6">review of Carnival Firenze</a>, although I was impressed with the vessel's complimentary activities, a rarity on many popular cruises.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-review-new-11-billion-norwegian-prima-cruise-ship-2022-10">Norwegian's newer ships,</a> for example, have $10 mini-golf courses and VR arcades that cost $29 for an hour of play. I went on Firenze's four-night cruise about two weeks after its maiden voyage.

I previously wrote a less-than-glowing review of Carnival Firenze , although I was impressed with the vessel's complimentary activities, a rarity on many popular cruises.

Norwegian's newer ships, for example, have $10 mini-golf courses and VR arcades that cost $29 for an hour of play. Similarly, Royal Caribbean's new ultra-giant, ultra-popular Icon of the Seas has a $49-per-person ropes course that can be completed in less than a minute.

Carnival Firenze also has a mini-golf and ropes course — but they're both free, albeit not as exciting or modern as the cruise line's competitors.

Unfortunately, the arcade isn't free. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a complimentary one anywhere.

<p>On Norwegian's newer ships, this includes slapping a $10 fee on the mini-golf course. On <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/royal-caribbean-icon-of-the-seas-cruise-ship-photo-tour-2024-1">Royal Caribbean's latest vessel</a>, this means paying $49 for a ropes course that could be completed in less than a minute.</p><p>But on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/carnival-cruise-lines-private-island-beach-destination-celebration-key-photos-2024-2">Carnival</a>, even complimentary venues had pay-to-play options.</p>

Like Icon of the Seas, brave guests must be harnessed in before walking Firenze's ropes course.

But unlike Royal Caribbean's adrenaline-pumping walkway, Firenze's course takes several minutes to complete. And while it's less showy and dramatic than Icon's, it is free to go on as many times as you'd like — and for that, a better deal.

<p>Nearby, there's also cornhole, a giant chess set, and an outdoor sports court for an afternoon of shooting hoops. If you're lucky, you can also claim one of the open-air foosball tables.</p>

Want to keep the adrenaline going? Carnival's new ship has waterslides near the children's water playground.

Nearby, there's also cornhole, a giant chess set, and an outdoor sports court for an afternoon of shooting hoops. If you're lucky, you can also claim one of the open-air foosball tables.

<p>Speaking of indoor-outdoor options, Firenze has two pools, one outside and another under a glass roof.</p><p>The latter is also home to the makeshift nighttime movie theater, so long as viewers are OK with paying $4 for popcorn and the background sound of screaming children at the pool.</p>

If not, there's an indoor foosball table near the ping pong table and a collection of board games and books.

Speaking of indoor-outdoor options, Firenze has two pools, one outside and another under a glass roof.

The latter is also home to the makeshift nighttime movie theater, so long as viewers are OK with paying $4 for popcorn and the background sound of screaming children at the pool.

<p>Or go to the adult-only outdoor lounge outfitted with rows of lounge seats, two hot tubs, and, most importantly, no children in sight. It's also where you'll also find the ship's salad bar — one of Firenze's 15 dining options.</p>

If you want to escape the kids, Firenze has the obligatory cruise ship spa, casino, and boutiques.

Or go to the adult-only outdoor lounge outfitted with rows of lounge seats, two hot tubs, and, most importantly, no children in sight. It's also where you'll also find the ship's salad bar — one of Firenze's 15 dining options.

<p>But the two complimentary dining venues that catered to these needs — the Fresh Creations salad stand and La Strada Grill with sandwiches and sides — were only open during the last day of the sailing. At that point, the lack of fiber had already done its damage.</p><p>I even tried ordering off the vegan menu for breakfast one morning. Unfortunately, I was denied my meatless dish: The waiter said vegan breakfasts had to be ordered the night before, a restriction I've yet to see on another cruise.</p>

Of the 16 restaurants, nine venues are complimentary

But there are some caveats.

Some included options, like the pizza kiosk and buffet, have up-charged items. Others, like the aforementioned salad bar and grill stand, remained frustratingly closed until the last day of my cruise.

But if you don't consider these stipulations, Firenze's free-to-upcharged restaurant ratio isn't abnormal. About half of competitor Icon of the Seas' 21 dining venues also cost extra.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Carnival Cruise Line is well known for its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cruise-stateroom-compared-margaritaville-vs-explora-journeys-2023-11">relatively affordable fares</a>.</li><li>But my recent Carnival Firenze cruise was filled with enticing pay-to-play amenities.</li><li>Even the complimentary venues had up-charged options, making it easy for travelers to blow past their budget.</li></ul><p>If you aren't careful, your Carnival cruise could quickly become as expensive as an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/oceania-six-month-around-the-world-cruise-new-luxury-ship-2024-3">Oceania</a> one.</p><p>Peruse any of the "US' most budget-friendly cruise lines" lists, and you're sure to find <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/carnival-cruise-new-private-island-celebration-key-royal-caribbean-cococay-2024-5">Carnival</a> somewhere near the top. In 2024, its most affordable itinerary is $164 per person for a four-night sailing from Miami — more than $20 cheaper than Royal Caribbean and Norwegian's least expensive ones.</p><p>That's about $40 a day for food, accommodations, onboard entertainment, and the ability to see several destinations in one vacation.</p><div class="read-original">Read the original article on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/carnival-ultra-cheap-cruises-but-endless-up-charged-amenities-2024-6">Business Insider</a></div>

Carnival Firenze's specialty options include an empanada stand and classics like sushi, teppanyaki, and Italian restaurants.

Travelers ready to splurge on food could pay as little as $1.50 for an empanada or almost $50 for a steakhouse dinner.

Dining at the free buffet but eyeing the up-charged chicken wings? They'll be $5 for six pieces. Having breakfast at the free main dining room? A fresh juice will be $5.

Want a dinner lobster roll from the seafood shack? It'll be another $18.

<p>The Guy Fieri-branded burger joint accrued lines before it opened for lunch. I, drawn to hyped food places like a moth to a light, was excited by its popularity.</p><p>Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy it for long. I hit a food coma about four bites into the decadently greasy pepperoni pizza burger, served with a thick slab of fried mozzarella.</p>

During the day, the seafood shack serves as a complimentary chicken stand, joining eight other free options.

Cruisers can live out their "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" dreams at the Guy Fieri-branded burger counter, where heavy accouterments like fried mozzarella slabs and onion rings are commonplace.

Or, head up a deck to Il Mercato for grab-and-go Italian sandwiches.

Firenze has two main dining rooms for a more formal sit-down dinner. Just note that the dinner buffet serves the same menu as these restaurants. And while the food is fine, it's not great — and I did find a piece of plastic hidden in my pasta.

<p><span>Cocktails are about $13, while beers and seltzers are about $9. But if you can't cruise without booze (it is Carnival, after all), the new ship has plenty of venues for your needs.</span></p>

As with any mass-market cruise ship, alcohol isn't free.

Cocktails are about $13, while beers and seltzers are about $9. But if you can't cruise without booze (it is Carnival, after all), the new ship has plenty of venues for your needs.

While not technically a bar, the coffee shop also sells boozy milkshakes and floats for almost $12.

But then again, everything at JavaBlue Cafe has a price tag, from the $4.50 latte to the icy $7.25 frappe. And if you want a sweet treat with your pick-me-up, it'll be $4 for a doughnut or cupcake.

(If you don't want to pay for caffeine, the buffet has free black coffee, Bigelow's green tea, and Lipton tea.)

Is the entertainment better on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean’s newest ships? Yes.

Does Carnival Firenze have as many pools as its competitors' latest vessels? No.

But is Firenze's mini-golf and ropes course free? Yes.

Plus, with four-night voyages starting at almost $90 a night, Firenze's 2024 itineraries are both shorter and cheaper than several other new cruise ships on the market. (Norwegian Viva's cheapest 2024 itinerary is more than $1,520 per person for an 11-day sailing, while Icon of the Seas starts at almost $1,770 per person for eight days.)

So, if you can resist the enticing upcharges, Carnival's new Firenze could be a great pick for families looking for a cheap and fun vacation at sea .

I sailed on a Carnival cruise for the first time and saw why they're so popular for budget vacations

Carnival Corp experienced record bookings in the second quarter of 2024.

Its latest and 27th ship, Carnival Firenze , is a great budget option.

But the food was mediocre, and the enticing upcharges could quickly push guests past their budget.

I love falling for the hype , whether it be clawing for a table at a new buzzy restaurant or queueing for a limited-edition clothing drop.

Unfortunately, the one craze I can't get fully behind is Carnival, specifically its new 5,245-guest Carnival Firenze ship . Because as much as I like a bargain, I love a quality vacation more.

Carnival's floating hotels have never been this popular. Bookings for the rest of 2024 are "the best on record" with higher occupancy rates, fares, returning cruisers, and new guests compared to the year prior, the cruise line's parent company, Carnival Corp, said in its second-quarter earnings report in June.

And it's looking like business will only get better from here, with the cruise giant already reporting stronger booking levels at higher prices for its 2025 voyages.

Carnival is beloved in part for its affordability.

Like other cruising powerhouses, Carnival Corp has been raising ticket prices amid a boom in demand. But even with this jump in fares, its eponymous cruise line's cheapest 2024 itinerary starts at just $246 per person for a three-night Australia sailing on Carnival Luminosa.

To compare, competitor Norwegian Cruise Line's most affordable three-nighter in 2024 is $553 per person for a Caribbean voyage , while Royal Caribbean International's is $352 per person for a roundtrip cruise from Los Angeles to Ensenada, Mexico.

With these price differences, it's easy to see why travelers have been clawing at Carnival's voyages.

Inflation has been hard on many American's household finances .

So, if you can afford to travel this year, wouldn't you want to spend your precious, hard-earned cash on an enjoyable and relaxing vacation — instead of one that could have you stressing about your budget throughout the day?

Carnival acquired Firenze and its sister ship from fellow Carnival Corp-owned Costa Cruises in 2022.

Two years (including a two-month dry dock) later, the Italy-themed ship's naming ceremony was held in early April, "triggering a step up in bookings," Josh Weinstein, the president and CEO of Carnival Corp, told analysts in late June.

Firenze set sail on its maiden voyage shortly after, marking the 27th vessel to join the cruise line's fleet.

The new ship's fares may be relatively affordable, but you get what you pay for.

Firenze's cheapest 2024 itinerary is a four-night roundtrip voyage from its homeport in Long Beach, California, to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico, starting at $90 per person and day.

It's the same sailing I did, although I paid double that for my solo interior cabin booked last-minute.

The complimentary food was second-rate, but the free, family-friendly amenities were plentiful, and there were ample opportunities to splurge.

About half of the ship's 16 dining venues are complimentary, a ratio that's become increasingly commonplace on new mass-market cruise ships .

But there are some caveats to Firenze's list.

Two free eateries — the salad bar and grill — were closed until the last day. Others, like the pizza stand and buffet, had tempting up-charged dishes.

Some new cruise ships have complimentary food as good as, if not better, than the specialty restaurants.

But none of Firenze's free meals wowed me — even in the main dining rooms, where I had all my dinners.

Crowds assembled in front of the restaurant's doors every night before opening. But the hype never matched the quality.

My fried calamari was chewy, the desserts were too sweet, and I found a piece of plastic in my clams and linguini.

Kids could love the dining experience.

Service was interrupted nightly by some variation of a loud announcement, louder music, photo ops with pirates, or, on one night, a waitress who serenaded the restaurant with her rendition of "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran.

It was confusing and jarring but, for the most part, entertaining.

The dinner buffet served the same dishes as the dining rooms.

But it wasn't exactly a hot spot for great food during the day. Nor was it pristine, thanks to some of the stained booths.

The honey mustard dressing from the lunchtime salad bar was unbearably sweet. But at least it was edible, unlike the dry-as-a-rock chicken.

You could stroll to the buffet's chicken wings station for better poultry options — where you'll pay $5 for six pieces.

Popular cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Carnival have been increasingly outfitting their newest ships with pay-to-play amenities . Even then, I've never seen a cruise buffet with paid options.

Breakfast at the buffet and dining rooms were average.

The same goes for the breakfast burrito at the Italian-Mexican fusion kiosk.

Annoyingly, if you want a vegan breakfast from the dining room, you must order it the night before.

But if your only requirement is a quick morning meal, I suggest grabbing one of the biscuit sandwiches from the chicken stand, which becomes an upcharged seafood shack at night.

You'll have to pay $4.50 for a morning latte with your breakfast sandwich.

The buffet has free black coffee, Lipton, and Bigelow's green tea. If you're craving any other pick-me-up, you'll have to buy it at the onboard coffee shop.

For lunch, there's the pizza, Guy Fieri-branded burger, and Italian sandwich stands.

If you didn't second-guess your budget for the buffet's chicken wings, you might at the pizza stand. The $6 teriyaki chicken and Korean barbecue steak pies could catch your eye amid the sea of free pepperoni and four-cheese slices.

Fortunately, there were no paid options at the burger or Italian sandwich counters. Grabbing a plate at the latter will involve playing a round of sauce roulette, with the truffle mayo being one of the yummier bites on the ship and the salsa verde being one of the worst things I've eaten recently.

The grilled vegetables at La Strada Grill were a divine and necessary counterpart to the ship's heavy meals.

Unfortunately, the open-air stand remained closed until the final afternoon of the voyage.

In retrospect, I wish I had paid for the specialty restaurants. Maybe my meals would've been more memorable.

I could've spent $40 for the teppanyaki lunch or snacked on the $1.50-a-piece empanadas.

A $30 sushi boat dinner for two didn't sound too bad, either.

But would it still be a truly budget cruise if you end up splurging on specialty dining?

After all, a 2024 Firenze cruise starts at $90 per person and day, and dinner at the steakhouse would add another $50 to that day's cost.

There are plenty of free, family-friendly amenities.

Competing cruise lines have started charging for simple activities like mini-golf. (I'm looking at you, Norwegian ).

But besides the arcade, none of the ship's top-deck amenities required additional payments.

You could spend all day at the mini-golf course, adrenaline-pumping ropes course, sports court, and waterslides without paying a cent. If that gets boring, there are foosball and ping-pong tables, too.

I've seen flashier versions of these amenities on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean ships. But unlike its competition, all of Firenze's were free.

Or, you could spend your time splashing around the two pools.

The indoor one doubles as the nighttime movie theater, where you'll encounter your next budget roadblock — $4 bags of popcorn.

Movie time snacks aside, there are more than enough free activities to keep your family entertained during sea days, especially if you plan on catching nighttime shows like the "Dear Future Husband" song-and-dance production.

Onboard programming like trivia, dance classes, and karaoke also helps pass the time, free of charge.

But if you're on a budget, I suggest avoiding the "Deal or No Deal" game show, which starts at $25. And if you plan on joining the afternoon tea event, ask for the complimentary tea bags from the buffet. Otherwise, you'll have to pay $1.50 per bag.

Or, save your money for a few fun beverages.

Firenze has plenty of places to drink, from the bubbly-forward Frizzante bar to the live music-centric Piano Bar 88.

Craving a Negroni? Head to Amari. Looking to catch the latest game? Heroes Tribute Bar and Lounge is for you.

But be warned: Cocktails hover at around $13, while beers and seltzers are about $9.

If you don't want to pay for the bars, casino, or spa, you could escape the kids by going to the adult-only lounge.

Just be ready to trade the sound of screaming children with loud music. (The ship is devoid of any quiet spaces.)

And whatever relaxation you manage to sneak in will quickly be gone on port days, thanks to an unnecessarily confusing disembarkation process.

I admittedly don't have the best sense of direction. It didn't help that there were no signs pointing guests to where they could disembark the ship.

A crew member even accidentally led me in the wrong direction, seemingly unsure of where to go, too.

I wasn't annoyed. Firenze is a 1,061-foot-long vessel, after all.

However, I was annoyed when I stepped off Firenze in Ensenada, Mexico, and saw that the provided portside bus to downtown would cost another $4 per person.

Carnival Firenze could be great if you're planning a tightly-budgeted family vacation.

Its cheapest $90-a-night option is still far more affordable than its competitor's newest ships. (This year, Norwegian Viva's most inexpensive cruise is an 11-day voyage for $138 a day, while Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas starts at $221 a day for a weeklong sailing.)

It takes buying a latte or two, reserving a steakhouse dinner and teppanyaki lunch, snacking on a half-dozen wings, and having two beers daily for Firenze's per-day cost to be closer to Norwegian's.

So, there's no denying that Carnival's latest ship is a good deal, even if the food is lackluster, and you'll have to think about your spending at almost every turn of the vacation.

With that being said, if you have some cash to spare, I'd suggest going with another ship or cruise line.

Royal Caribbean and Norwegian's newer ships are undeniably pricier, but both had complimentary meals that were better than the specialty options. And yes, their pay-to-play activities can be steep — like a $15-per-person go-kart track on Norwegian — but they're more modern and flashy than Firenze's amenities if that matters to you.

I don't blame you if Carnival's latest ship lures you in with the affordable fares. But a word to the wise: Pay for a specialty restaurant or two, and save some cash to spend onboard. It'll make the trip more memorable.
