Taylor Swift concert madness hits Chicago Bears after practice

From justin fields to dante pettis, the bears had some impressive renditions of taylor swift's greatest hits, by alex shapiro • published june 4, 2023 • updated on june 4, 2023 at 12:36 pm.

Taylor Swift madness has gripped Chicago since her residency at Soldier Field began on Friday. It apparently worked its way north to Lake Forest and Halas Hall, too.

The Bears released a video of their players leaving the practice field with a simple question: “What is your favorite Taylor Swift song?” The players not only came through with a great mix of tunes, showing off their Swiftie status. Some also sang, showing off their impressive pipes.

Things start strong with Dante Pettis playing air guitar while providing a stirring rendition of “Our Song.” This may be the closest Swift fans in Chicago get to hearing the song live, since it was not included as one of the “surprise songs” on Friday or Saturday night.

Pettis leaves frame, which allows Justin Fields to start into the smash hit “You Belong With Me.” But the jam draws Pettis back, and he duos with his QB while showing off some unique dance moves.

“I know all of them, I’m a Swiftie,” Pettis said in the video.

New defensive end DeMarcus Walker gets the first solo of the show with his take on “Blank Space.” Although Walker probably won’t be accused of being a bigtime Swifthead any time soon, because he could only recall one line from the song.

From there, it’s a rapid round of Bears firing off their favorite songs.

Swift’s single “22” from her album “Red” got votes from Khalil Herbert, Velus Jones, Josh Blackwell and Andre Szmyt. “Shake It Off” was the pick for Braxton Jones and Tyson Bagent. The big winner was “You Belong With Me,” which received votes from Fields, Chase Claypool, Roschon Johnson and Noah Sewell.

Trenton Gill gave his nod to “Love Story,” then specifically requested it in the hopes Swift may see the video.

“I’ll be there Saturday night, Taylor,” Gill said. “Sing that song for me. I’ll be in the stands.”

Lucky for Gill, “Love Song” was included in Swift’s setlist on Saturday night.

DeMarquis Gates didn’t have a favorite song, but shared a favorite Swift storyー or rather meme. When the internet was flooded with fake stories of Swift dating obscure athletes, Jack Sanborn was jokingly linked to the pop superstar.

Finally, we must recognize some superlative performances from the Bears. Daurice Fountain showed off his truly incredible falsetto on his rendition of “Bad Blood.” However the top award must go to Patrick Scales for putting together an evocative performance of “Call It What You Want,” complete with choreography.

Swift wraps up her three-night residency with a show at Soldier Field on Sunday night.

Taylor Swift is taking “Midnights” on the road.

Just a day after making Billboard history , the “Lavender Haze” singer announced Tuesday on “ Good Morning America ” that she will embark on her sixth concert tour.

“Good morning, America, it’s Taylor,” she said. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

Swift will launch the tour in U.S. stadiums on March 18, 2023, in Glendale, Ariz. — the same place she kicked off her 2018 Reputation tour. So far, 27 dates have been announced across the country that will take the tour into August when she closes out the first leg with two shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on Aug. 4 and 5.

She will release international dates later.

The Grammy winner has also tapped a number of “brilliant opening acts” for the tour, including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, Muna, Haim, Gayle, Gracie Abrams, and Owenn.

“And really, I’m just so excited that I get to look you guys in the eye and say thank you for everything,” she added.

Prospective concertgoers will have to sign up for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program to register for presale tickets now through Nov. 9. Once they receive a code, they will be able to purchase tickets on Nov. 15. Those tickets will start at $49 and go up to $449. VIP packages start at $199 and go up to $899.

Verified fans from Swift’s Lover Fest tour will also receive preferred access to participate in the TaylorSwiftTix Presale once registered with the same Ticketmaster account as the previous purchase.

All other public ticket sales begin Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. local venue time.

Swift’s announcement comes more than a week after she released her tenth studio album, “Midnights,” on Oct. 20 . The singer announced the album back in August during an acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards.

In a statement after the show , she described “Midnights” as a “a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.”

Leading up to the release, Swift teased fans by trickling details about the album — including writing credits for boyfriend Joe Alwyn and “The Batman” star Zoë Kravitz.

“Midnights” made its grand entrance by briefly crashing Spotify and treating fans to bonus tracks and a companion music video for the single “Anti-Hero.”

Times critic Mikael Wood wrote that “Midnights” “returns to an earlier Swift mode in both sonic and lyrical terms.”

Adding to the excitement around “Midnights” was the album’s commercial success. Swift’s new album broke records on Spotify last week and on Monday, the singer became the first artist to fully occupy the top 10 spots of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“10 out of 10 of the Hot 100??? On my 10th album??? I AM IN SHAMBLES,” Swift tweeted on Monday.

'Midnights' madness: Taylor Swift announces Detroit concert date

The show is a part of swift's first concert tour since 2018..

taylor swift tour madness

Taylor Swift is returning to Ford Field as part of her first concert tour in five years.

The chart-topping singer-songwriter-world dominator will perform at the Detroit Lions' home on June 10, according to tour dates rolled out Tuesday when Swift appeared on "Good Morning America." Tickets go on sale Nov. 18 and start at $49 to $449, according to a tour release. VIP packages are $199 to $899.

Fans can register for pre-sale tickets here through Nov. 9. Fans who receive a code will be able to purchase pre-sale tickets starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 15.

Fans who purchased tickets for Swift's 2020 Lover Fest, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will receive "preferred access" to the presale, according to a release.

Capitol One cardholders will have access to a separate presale that starts at 2 p.m. Nov. 15.

The show is part of Swift's "Eras Tour," her first concert tour since her "Reputation Stadium Tour." That outing hit Ford Field in August 2018 , and found Swift paying tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died earlier that month.

On "GMA," Swift called the Eras Tour "a journey through all of my musical eras of my career." The 20-city tour kicks off March 18 in Glendale, Ariz. and wraps Aug. 5 in Los Angeles, with international dates to follow.

"Really, I’m just so excited that I get to look you guys in the eye and say thank you for everything," Swift said on "GMA."

The tour comes on the heels of Swift's latest album "Midnights," which has been smashing all sorts of records since it was released Oct. 21.

The album sold 1.58 million copies its first week, the first album to sell more than 1 million units in a single week since Swift's own "Reputation" in 2017. It's her record-breaking fifth time selling 1 million-plus albums in a week; "Speak," "Red" and "1989" also achieved the sales feat.

"Midnights" entirely blankets this week's Billboard Top 10, with Swift taking all 10 top spots on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, making her the first artist to ever do so. Her "Anti-Hero" leads at No. 1, followed by "Lavender Haze" (No. 2), "Maroon" (No. 3), "Snow on the Beach" (No. 4), "Midnight Rain" (No. 5), "Bejeweled" (No. 6), "Question...?" (No. 7), "You're On Your Own, Kid" (No. 8), "Karma" (No. 9) and "Vigilante Sh-t" (No. 10).

The album also set a new record for first week vinyl sales, selling 575,000 copies, obliterating the previous record holder, Harry Styles' "Harry's House," which sold 182,000 vinyl copies its first week earlier this year.

OWENN and girl in red will open the Ford Field show.

Ford Field has been Swift's concert home in Detroit for more than a decade. In addition to her 2018 concert, she played the venue in May 2015, May 2013 and June 2011.

Travis Kelce Had Five-Word Answer for What He's Learned By Watching Taylor Swift Perform

  • Author: Kristen Wong

In this story:

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is putting on a show in Kansas City—the musical kind. And who better to serve as his muse than his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift?

Months after his latest Super Bowl win, Kelce is expected to host his second annual “ Kelce Jam ” music festival at the Azura Amphitheater in Kansas City on May 18. The seven-hour festival will include performances by Lil Wayne, Diplo and 2 Chainz as well as feature local restaurant pop-ups.

In an interview about his upcoming music festival, Kelce was asked whether he learned anything from attending Swift’s widely acclaimed Eras Tour.

“Don’t try and be Taylor, that’s what I learned,” Kelce told The Hollywood Reporter . “Yeah, she’s on a whole other stratosphere. She’s the best at what she does for a reason. It’s because she’s so articulate and just very dialed into every single thing that she does. And that’s the beauty of it.”

💬| Travis Kelce when asksd what he's learned from Taylor Swift putting on The Eras Tour as he's producing the second year of his festival, Kelce Jam, this year: "(laughs) I did: Don't try and be Taylor, that's what I learned. Kelce accompanied Swift to several Eras Tour shows within the past year, including sets in Argentina, Singapore and Australia. He is also expected to support her when she continues her international tour in Europe this summer.

“I’d be silly if I ever tried to take anything from what she does, other than just enjoy the people that show up,” continued Kelce. “I think that’s one thing I could probably take away: She really relates to the people she’s performing in front of, and so I’ll take that.”

Why the Taylor Swift debacle could lead to renewed scrutiny of the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger

  • Lawmakers and Swifties are calling for the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger to be reexamined.
  • The Department of Justice was reportedly investigating the merger prior to the Eras Tour madness.
  • One potential thing that the DOJ could consider in its investigation is monopsony power.

Insider Today

As the dust settles on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour ticket madness, some fans — and lawmakers — are still pushing for a systemic change: They want to unwind the 2010 merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation.

Look no further than the lawsuit that some Swifties have filed, where plaintiffs allege that "anticompetitive behavior has substantially harmed and will continue to substantially harm Taylor Swift fans."

—Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 15, 2022

Lina Khan, the chair of the Federal Trade Commission, said that the Eras Tour debacle "ended up converting more Gen Z'ers into antimonopolists overnight than anything I could have done."

Now, the Department of Justice is reportedly investigating the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger, a probe that began even before the Eras Tour debacle. A DOJ spokesperson declined to comment on reports of an investigation.

"As we have stated many times in the past, Live Nation takes its responsibilities under the antitrust laws seriously and does not engage in behaviors that could justify antitrust litigation, let alone orders that would require it to alter fundamental business practices," Live Nation Entertainment said in a lengthy statement on competition.

Swifties coming up against high resale prices and difficulty securing tickets led to calls to reexamine the merger, which critics and musicians say has cost fans and artists.

"Because of Live Nation's market dominance, artists, venues, and consumers simply have no choice but to use the platform notwithstanding its flaws and failures," Sens. Richard Blumenthal, Amy Klobuchar, and Ed Markey  wrote in a letter  to the Department of Justice.

Related stories

In the most extreme outcome, the investigation could lead to an unwinding of the merger.

The FTC and DOJ are keeping a close eye on mergers, and their impact on consumers and workers alike

The problem with the merger, critics say , is it's led to higher costs for music fans and leaves little opportunity for artists or venues to use a different vendor.

Currently, the FTC and DOJ have been focused on modernizing guidelines for mergers, with a particular focus on what's called "monopsony power." That's the kind of merger critics argue happened with Live Nation and Ticketmaster. It means an employer holds outsized power in the labor market, including an ability to do things like set wages across industries.

Another example is the blocked merge r of publishing houses Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster, in which the DOJ argued that the merger would lead to one company holding too much power over author advances.

For musicians encountering a shrinking industry with stagnant wages , that might sound familiar. Artists told Insider that touring has broadly become more financially untenable, as payment to artists stays low but costs are high — and fans are spending more money on ticket fees that they could be spending on other shows.

At the time of the proposed merger back in 2010, the Department of Justice put Live Nation under a consent decree, a legally binding agreement. The terms of the consent decree dictate that the company can't retaliate against concert venues for opting into a different ticketing service, or threaten them.

But, despite that judgment being the terms that allowed the merger to take place, "Live Nation repeatedly and over the course of several years engaged in conduct that, in the Department's view, violated the Final Judgment," according to a 2019 release from the Department of Justice . In 2019, the Department of Justice specifically prohibited Live Nation  from threatening to withhold concerts for venues using a different ticket service — and specifying that Live Nation  would rack up a $1,000,000 penalty for every violation. Live Nation has not incurred any of those penalties.

As part of that 2019 judgment, the DOJ's antitrust division was appointed an independent monitor "to investigate and report on Live Nation's compliance."

"We strongly disagree with the DOJ's allegations in the filing and the conclusions they seek to draw from six isolated episodes among some 5,000 ticketing deals negotiated during the life of the consent decree," Live Nation Entertainment said in a statement. "Nevertheless, in keeping with our decision to settle, our focus is now on bringing this matter to its conclusion and continuing to deliver the best live event experiences to fans everywhere."

Taylor Swift en route from Tokyo to watch Travis Kelce in the Super Bowl, will join their families in luxury suite

Taylor Swift is officially en route to Super Bowl LVIII after finishing her fourth and final concert at the Tokyo Dome on Saturday night.

She’s now crossing nine time zones in her direct flight to Las Vegas, expecting to make it in time to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in the big game.

Swift reportedly rushed to her jet at Haneda Airport after wrapping the Tokyo leg of her international Eras Tour and is already in the air for her 12-hour flight.

The 14-time Grammy-winner will be joining both her family and Kelce’s in a luxury suite at Allegiant Stadium, for which Travis is reportedly footing the bill, according to TMZ.

Sources close to the situation say Taylor’s mother, Andrea, father Scott, brother Austin and Austin’s girlfriend, Sydney, are all going to be in attendance as well, sitting with Travis’ mother Donna, father Ed, brother Jason and sister-in-law Kylie Kelce.

The news comes despite Donna Kelce saying earlier in the week she’d likely be sitting in the stands instead of a box suite at the game.

“As far as I know I’m in the stands with everybody else because it is a pricey Super Bowl,” the 71-year-old said during her Wednesday interview on “Today.”

According to Allegiant Stadium representatives, the suite costs well over $1 million, and the Chiefs tight end is reportedly covering the whole thing. He joked about it earlier in the week on his “New Heights” podcast , telling brother Jason he was “counting how much money I’m spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come.”

Some of Swift’s closest friends will also be at the game on Sunday, according to TMZ’s sources, though it’s unclear whether they’ll be joining her and the families in the suite.

The pop star is currently making the 8,900-mile flight on a $54 million Dassault Falcon-9 business jet , reported NBC News.

Because Tokyo is 17 hours ahead of Las Vegas, Swift is expected to land around 1 p.m. local time on Sunday, with plenty of time to make the 3:30 p.m. kickoff.

Any fans interested in tracking her progress until then can follow her flight in real time on FlightRadar24 or other public tracking sites.

Golf fans are in love with this taylor swift themed masters shirt, share this article.

The Masters gets underway at the iconic Augusta National on Thursday, and the excitement for pimento sandwiches and azaleas is high. Jon Rahm took home the green jacket in 2023, but Scottie Scheffler is the favorite this time around, even if you maybe shouldn’t take that bet .

While the legendary green jacket is the fashion item most associated with teh Masters, there’s another piece of clothing garnering attention at Augusta. Sportsnet’s golf reporter Adam Stanley took to social media on Wednesday to share a new tee-shirt, and immediately people were clamoring for one of their own.

The sea foam green tee features six, differently colored boxes — which feel very Taylor Swift-inspired — that have images associated with the Masters.

  • Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour 2024 International Schedule

The Eras Tour is slowly shaping up to be one of the biggest music tours in the world. It is certainly Swift’s biggest and most important tour to date, and how could it not be? It celebrates all 10 albums (called eras) of Swift’s incredible career.

The tour began in March this year, but it’s not going to end anytime soon – it’s going to last well into November 2024!

If you want to see the whole schedule for the 2024 era of the Eras Tour, scroll down.

A Brief Wrap up of the Tour So Far

The tour, Swift’s sixth and biggest tour so far, officially started on March 17, 2023. The first show was held in Glendale, Arizona, and it was rapidly followed by a string of highly successful shows across the USA.

However, the last two segments of the tour so far took place outside of the USA, as Taylor headed to Mexico in August for a four-day fest, after which she made a brief break. The tour is set to continue briefly in November again, with three scheduled shows in Brazil.

At the end of the tour, Swift will have held 146 shows in total across 5 different continents. The social and economic impact of the tour is difficult to predict, but it is said that the concerts even affected the US economy – which is more than can be said about most concert tours in history.

The Eras Tour 2024 Dates

The tour hits a pause in November after Swift finishes with the three shows in Brazil, after which she goes on a break until February. The first concert in February is on February 7, and the location? Japan. The final show of the Eras Tour will take place in Toronto, Canada. In October, Taylor Swift is also releasing a film called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, a concert film documentary that is already smashing records worldwide.

Experts weigh in on her fanbase loyalty, skills as songwriter, businesswoman as her albums, tours break financial, popularity records

Whether you’re a fan of Taylor Swift or not, it’s hard to deny the cultural and financial juggernaut the pop superstar has become this year. Her album “Midnights,” released in late 2022, was the year’s top-seller at 1.8 million copies, twice that of the second-biggest by Harry Styles. Her latest, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” debuted in July at No. 1, giving Swift her 12th in the top spot, surpassing Barbra Streisand for the most No. 1 albums by a woman artist.

Swift’s 131-date “Eras” world tour, currently packing stadiums across the U.S., is on track to be the highest-grossing concert tour of all time, at $1.4 billion, when it ends next year. Analysts estimate the tour will also have a total economic impact from tour-related spending of $5 billion on host cities. Even the Federal Reserve noted the effect her tour is having on regional economies.

To better understand the Swift phenomenon, the Gazette asked some Harvard and Berklee College of Music faculty to assess her artistry, fan base, the tour’s economic impact, and her place in the industry. Interviews have been edited for clarity and length.

‘Very few people have her songwriting talent’ Stephanie Burt, poet and Donald P. and Katherine B. Loker Professor of English

Gazette: How good is Swift as a songwriter?

Burt: She has a terrific ear in terms of how words fit together. She has a sense both of writing songs that convey a feeling that can make you imagine this is the songwriter’s own feelings, like in “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and a way of telling stories and creating characters. She can write songs that take place at one moment, and she can write songs where the successive verses give you a series of events, like in “Betty” or “Fifteen.”

She has a lot of different gifts as a songwriter, both at the macro level, how the song tells a story or presents an attitude, and at the micro level, how the vowels and consonants fit together, and she’s able to exercise that range, along with quite a lot of melodic gifts, and in a way that does not make her seem highbrow or alienate potential audience members. I would not be surprised to discover that her body of songwriting altogether had a larger number of words than any body of comparable hit songs by a comparable songwriter, except for someone like Bob Dylan.

One of the things that’s really remarkable for me about her is that harmonically, she’s not usually that interesting. It’s pretty normal pop chord progressions and pretty standard varieties of pop arrangement. Her great genius and her innovations and her brilliance as a songwriter is melodic and verbal. And, of course, she’s also very good at singing, which is not to be sneezed at. But she’s able to do that within the fairly tight constraints of existing, easily recognizable chord progressions and rhythmic setups.

She’s able to create verbal hooks, “I’m only 17. I don’t know anything, but I know I miss you.” They stick in your mind, and you spin stories out from them. That’s just being a good writer. She’s a celebrity with a complicated personal life that has been lived in the public eye for quite some time, and so, people speculate about the meanings of her songs, both because they are complex and meaningful works of art, and because some of them do speak to public facts about her life outside the songs.

“Fifteen,” which is a terrific song, gains resonance if you know that it’s about a real person and they’re still friends. But no one would care if it weren’t a brilliantly constructed song. Take something from “Speak Now”: It’s nice to know that “Dear John” is about John Mayer, who really had no business dating a 19-year-old, but it’s also a song about a pattern [of behavior], and it works in itself.

There’s all kinds of celebrity gossip about pop stars who maybe have her level of vocal talent and performing talent but happen not to have her level of songwriting talent. Very few people have her songwriting talent.

Gazette: Which songs would you count among your very favorites?

Burt: There’s so many good songs. I find the ones that speak to me the most are the ones whose topics are closest to my own life. I’m a queer lady. She writes wonderful songs about falling in love or falling out of love with various guys. Those are not, by and large, my favorites even though they’re some of her biggest hits. “Fifteen,” “Betty,” “seven,” “It’s Nice to Have a Friend.”

I actually really like “The Last Great American Dynasty.” The two indie folk albums [“Folklore” and “Evermore”], almost everything on them is amazing. It’s so hard to sustain that level of success artistically while changing that much. Few can do it. “Nothing New” is amazing. “Anti-Hero,” which is the big hit from “Midnights,” is an absolutely fantastic and extraordinarily self-conscious song about being the kind of celebrity that she’s become.

4 albums in Billboard top 10

Taylor Swift is the only living artist to have four albums in the Billboard top 10 at the same time since Herb Alpert in 1966. Following his death in 2016, Prince had five albums in the top 10. (Swift is the only woman with four albums in the top 10 at the same time since the Billboard 200 was combined from its previously separate mono and stereo album charts into one all-encompassing list in August of 1963.)

Source: Billboard

‘Strong social and emotional bond that people feel with her’ Alexandra Gold , clinical fellow in psychology at MGH and Harvard Medical School

Gazette: Swift appears to have a devoted fan base who feel intensely connected to her and her music. Why is that?

GOLD: There is a strong social and emotional bond that people feel with her. And in general, when people become super fans or part of the fandom, it’s often because there’s something about the object of that fandom, the public figure or celebrity, that does connect back to their identity in some way. That’s often the link.

In the case of Taylor, there’s a couple of things going on. The first piece is relatability. Even though there’s aspects of her that maybe don’t feel very relatable — she’s a celebrity and lives a very different life from her fans — what she is singing about — the lyrical content as well as the emotions that underlie the lyrical content — are very relatable to a lot of people. There’s something that is very common to the human experience.

Another piece is a lot of Millennials, as well as Gen Z now, are fans of Taylor Swift. With the Millennials, a lot of people grew up alongside her. When they were having some of these first experiences, maybe with relationships or entering adulthood, she was doing that at the same time and singing about that. Her life story mapped onto their life story, in some way.

For Gen Z, during the pandemic, there was a lot of TikTok content about her, she was putting out many albums, so a new generation discovered her, and they’re also having similar experiences. Overall, she’s been really important for identity development and growth for a lot of people.

@taylorswift That’s my whole world 💕 #tstheerastour #swifttok ♬ So it goes x Miss Americana – 🪩

A third piece is aspirational. She is a role model. She is a great example of someone who sticks to their values and shows their fan base that they can reach their goals, whatever those might be. For instance, she’s claiming ownership of her work and has been successful in putting out re-recordings [of her older albums] and doing that despite barriers or obstacles that might be in the way. Seeing someone do something like that could be inspiring for a lot of young people.

And then, lastly, the fan community is a big part of this. People often form their identity around relationships not just with a celebrity, but also with other fans. The fan community that Taylor has around her, people meet their friends through it and people become part of something bigger than themselves. That is really important for them as they grow up and as they go through life.

Gazette: Swift has had to tell some fans to stop harassing people she once dated. Where’s the line between fan and fanatic?

GOLD: I think fandoms are, overall, very positive. That is an important message, that being a fan is a very positive thing. It’s important to be aware of when it’s interfering in other aspects of one’s life — not engaging in other areas that might be important, other relationships, whether time spent online is causing anxiety or stress or negative feelings for people. Trying to defend Taylor against other celebrities, for instance, that’s when it maybe goes into a category of “OK, let’s take a step back and think about what we can do to bring this back to a place where it feels more positive.” Recognize while this is a relationship that’s important to you, it’s not a friendship. And so, if someone starts to feel like there’s a two-way relationship when there’s no evidence that’s happening, that’s also something to be aware of.

‘The kinds of gains you see in an event like a Super Bowl’ Matthew Andrews , Edward S. Mason Senior Lecturer in International Development at Harvard Kennedy School

GAZETTE: You and some colleagues examined the effects on cities and regions hosting mega events. The total economic impact to host cities of Swift concerts on her current tour is expected to hit $5 billion. Does that sound plausible?

ANDREWS: Those numbers, I think, are completely accurate. I would be in agreement with those numbers because those are the kinds of gains you see in an event like a Super Bowl. The thing that is so amazing about the Taylor Swift concert, in particular, is that it goes from city to city, and you see the same kind of impact in city after city. You do see it with some other musicians, as well. But this is something that’s on a scale and a consistency that we haven’t really seen before.

Swift’s 131-date “Eras” world tour, currently packing stadiums across the U.S., is on track to be the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. Pictured is a June show at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Benjamin B. Braun/Pittsburgh Post-Gazette via AP

Gazette: Which industries typically benefit when a major concert tour or sporting event takes place?

ANDREWS: The main beneficiaries in the private sector are people involved in tourism and the support network around the entertainment industry, so it is going to be hotels, restaurants, tourism agencies. It’s going to be anything to do with transportation hubs. They are going to be the primary beneficiaries.

The costs to the public sector can be quite significant. And the cost for people in these areas who are not directly benefiting can be quite significant in terms of congestion, use of roads, just wear and tear, in terms of policing. This is a really important one — the cost of public order. Unless the government really thinks this through and charges for this as part of its permitting process, the government can end up on the short end after these kinds of events.

The other thing about these events that is increasingly attracting attention, from a public policy perspective, are climate change concerns. You have many, many people transporting themselves to a small area and a lot [are] coming through the air and through vehicles. This is something we worry about a lot more with prolonged mega events like a World Cup than with something like a Taylor Swift concert, but you do need to think about what those costs are.

‘Standing up for … rights and doing good business’ Ralph Jaccodine , assistant professor of music business/management, Berklee College of Music

GAZETTE: What are the factors that make Swift a successful performer from an industry perspective?

Jaccodine: First of all, if you’re going to talk about Taylor Swift, you’ve got to talk about the power of great songs. It all starts with the power of great songs. That’s why we’re still listening to The Beatles, and Bob Dylan, and Frank Sinatra. And like Bowie and Gaga and Dylan, she’s not afraid to stretch. She’s not afraid to bring her audience for a ride. We’ve seen her grow up in real life, from a young girl to a woman with power, and she’s owning it.

Number two, and this is really important: You’ve got to be great live. My students come to me and say, “We have 53 likes on this video, and we’re not selling tickets.” They don’t understand the power of going in front of people and blowing them away. In my business, as a manager, 80 percent of the income comes from live performances, so I want them to change lives live. I’m a massive Springsteen fan. I’m going to be seeing Springsteen at Gillette. I’ve seen him 12 times. I don’t need to see Bruce anymore. I’m an old guy, but I’m still going to rock concerts for artists to change my life. Taylor Swift’s songs, combined with how great she is live, is a powerful combination.

She’s always had a good team around her, smart people around her, good publicists, and good management. When you’re that good, you have the best in the industry. Her team is great: They build anticipation; they create a buzz about things. She’s imprinted her fans in such a way that they want everything about her. The day before a big stadium show, the T-shirt stand is open and there’s thousands of people in line. They hang on to every word of her social media posting, look at all the pictures. They share it; they talk about it; they have groups. That’s really hard to pull off.

GAZETTE: Has her advocacy for better artist compensation from streaming platforms and record labels and her fight to reclaim control of her back catalog made a difference?

Jaccodine:   Absolutely. First, in the awareness of these topics. The general music fan isn’t aware of streaming revenues or master rights or re-recording rights. They don’t know or really care, but she shines a light on all these things. She shines a light on management contracts and what labels are or what labels aren’t. The whole master recordings topic has been spotlighted by Taylor. She had the budget and the resources and the talent to re-record things. The whole exercise was done in public; the whole exercise was reported on. So now, students are studying that, and they’re questioning that for the first time.

I do know she’s empowered and imprinted serious numbers of people that are fans of music or musicians themselves because of her influence. I look at Rihanna; I look at Beyoncé; I look at Taylor Swift. These are the biggest artists on the planet. They’re all women that are empowering girls and standing up for their rights and doing good business. I love it; I love it.

Taylor Swift Concert Film Hits Streaming: Here's How To Watch 'The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)'

Zinger key points.

  • A concert film from Taylor Swift set records at the box office.
  • The movie hits streaming this week. Here's how to watch the Taylor Swift concert film.

A concert film from Taylor Swift smashed box office records in 2023.

The film now heads to streaming. Here's how fans can watch the highly anticipated streaming release of the Taylor Swift concert film.

What Happened: Media giant The Walt Disney Company DIS shared alongside its first-quarter financial results that it landed the streaming rights to the Taylor Swift concert film.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the streaming release will be “Taylor’s Version,” featuring a rendition of “Cardigan” and four acoustic tracks, debuting in the concert film for the first time.

Officially titled "The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)," the concert film hits Disney+ on March 14 at 9 p.m. ET. This sets the release date a bit earlier than Disney’s initially announced March 15.

Why It's Important: The original version of the film, without the additional songs, was released in theaters through a partnership between Swift and AMC Entertainment Holdings AMC .

The film grossed $180.8 million domestically and $261.7 million worldwide, breaking records for concert films. The film was also the 11 th highest grossing film domestically in 2023.

AMC Entertainment and Live Nation Entertainment LYV are among the companies that have benefitted from increased demand for the concert film and tickets for Swift concerts.

With the exclusive streaming rights to the highly anticipated concert film, Disney could join the list of companies to benefit from the global superstar.

Disney ended the first quarter with 149.6 million Disney+ subscribers. The company offers several pricing tiers for its plans and could see a brief boost in subscribers during the current quarter thanks to Swift fans wanting to watch the film over and over again.

DIS Price Action: Disney shares trade at $112.55 versus a 52-week trading range of $78.73 to $115.19.

Travis Kelce is reflecting on the early days of his courtship with Taylor Swift .

Speaking on the latest episode of his and his brother Jason Kelce ’s podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce , released April 10, Travis, 34, confessed that he’s still not sure how he ended up dating the pop superstar, also 34.

After Jason, 36, told the brothers’ guest Lil Dicky that their podcast had “a lot of new fans called Swifties,” the rapper, also 36, quizzed the siblings on how they were finding the extra attention that has come with the couple’s relationship .

While Jason admitted that “it’s not changed that much for me,” Travis went on to note that "it’s fun” and “he’s having a blast in life, baby.”

"Just flying high, enjoying it all,” he continued. “Bringing new lives to the football world and opening up the football world up to new things.”

The comedian then called the duo’s romance “the best thing ever,” adding, “I think there’s just something that makes everyone feel like the world is like high school, where your most popular pop star beloved musician somehow how met your most popular beloved athlete and they actually fell in love and it’s just real. Anyone who hates on it is a bitter loser."

“I appreciate it, man,” Travis responded, before going on to admit with a laugh, “I don’t know how I did it because she wasn’t into sports, so I don’t know how the f--- I did it.”

Lil Dicky interjected, “Well you did because you called her out on…"

"No, I know exactly how I did it," Travis continued with another laugh.

The Kansas City Chiefs star and the “Karma” singer first sparked dating rumors in September 2023 after the musician attended a handful of Kelce's games .

While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show podcast that same month, Travis revealed that he invited Swift to attend one of his games and " threw the ball in her court ” after seeing her perform at Arrowhead Stadium during her Eras Tour in July 2023.

Morgan Wallen defended Taylor Swift after getting an unexpected reaction to a comment he made Friday night during his show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The moment came after he told the crowd that they had set an attendance record for his two-night stadium stand. He then quipped that he would likely hold the title “until Taylor Swift comes to town.”

“We ain’t got to boo, we ain’t got to boo,” Wallen said as the boos continued.

Wallen then thanked his fans for their loyalty.

Wallen’s defense was appreciated by Swifties posting online.

Swift is scheduled for three sold-out shows at the Lucas Oil Stadium at the beginning of November.

Will Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Make Their Met Gala Debut?

By Elizabeth Logan

Will Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Make Their Met Gala Debut

Could Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce go to the Met Gala together ? Yes! He doesn't have to report to NFL training camp until July, and the gala is on May 6, three days before Swift resumes the Eras Tour in Paris.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

But are Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attending the Met Gala? The answer there is…maybe? As a rule, Swift does not walk red carpets with her boyfriends, and the Met Gala is also sort of a loaded event in the Swift-verse. It's where she met and danced with Tom Hiddleston, on the same night she met Joe Alwyn , whom she would date right after Hiddleston, and for many years. To put Kelce into the mix might be too much…or a way to wipe the slate clean? He does like clothes.

This year's dress code is “The Garden of Time,” which can be interpreted in many ways, though we suspect plenty of attendees will take the “garden” part literally with some botanical elements. Swift has attended six Met Galas , looking pretty and polished in a floor-length gown at each, save for the 2016 event, to which she wore a metallic Louis Vuitton minidress and dark lipstick. That's where she met the aforementioned boys. It's also the last gala she attended.

If she attends, even solo, it would be a nice way for the billionaire to cap off the promotional run for her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department , before she goes back on tour. And she'd have her pick of designers to partner with, not having any fashion contracts in place. Personally, fingers crossed that she would go with Gucci, the brand she wore to the Golden Globes. Oh my God, she looked so good in that green dress!

But given that, in the eight years since Swift last showed up, the Kardashians have all but taken over the steps, it might not be high on her to-do list. Friends modeling for Skims is one thing, but actually running into Kim is another.
