Flying high: cathay pacific business class.

Discover just what makes Cathay Pacific's business class service such a coveted choice among ... [+] travelers.

There’s a reason that you’ll likely elicit “ooh and ahs” if you tell someone that you’re flying on a long-haul flight aboard Cathay Pacific — especially if you’re flying business class. With a well-deserved reputation for impeccable service and attention to detail, the airline's business class offering promises a prized premium travel experience. Discover just what makes Cathay Pacific's business class service such a coveted choice among travelers.

Usage: All media worldwide Expiry date: Perpetual

First Impressions

From the very moment you arrive at your gate for your flight, you can tell Cathay Pacific prioritizes customer experience. The airline’s thoughtful approach is evident even before boarding. The carrier organizes passengers into separate lines based on their boarding groups, ensuring a smooth and orderly process. Each line is clearly marked and (unlike most airlines) thoroughly spaced apart, preventing confusion and avoiding the chaotic, mob-like scenes often experienced with other airlines. This organized system reflects Cathay Pacific's commitment to providing a seamless and stress-free experience from the very beginning.

As you step into the business class cabin on the Airbus A350-1000, there’s a welcoming atmosphere. (Keep in mind that business class specifics will differ somewhat depending on the aircraft you’re on). The business cabin's sleek design, featuring a soothing color palette and subdued lighting, is designed to put you at ease. Soon after settling into your seat, travelers are greeted by friendly and attentive cabin crew, who offer a choice of welcome beverages, including champagne, and provide a refreshing hot towel service. This warm welcome sets the tone for the level of service you can look forward to on the rest of the flight.

The seating in Cathay Pacific's business class is a highlight, both for its comfort and their ... [+] storage features.

Bitcoin Price Suddenly Soars Over $60,000 After Trump Assassination Attempt Sends His Odds Of Victory To All-Time High

Why richard simmons rejected pauly shore’s idea for a biopic, ufc denver results: highlights, finishes and scorecards.

The seating in Cathay Pacific's business class is a highlight, both for its comfort and their storage features. They are configured in a 1-2-1 seating arrangement. The spacious reverse herringbone seats emphasize both comfort and privacy. However, unless you’re traveling with someone, try to get a window seat, as the two seats in the middle surprisingly lack a divider or partition. If you want some separation from your neighbor your only choice is to leave open the door of the small storage cabinet that houses your water, amenities and headphones. That being said, the seat is far back enough that you still have privacy from your neighbor when not leaning forward.

Every business class seat converts into a fully flat bed, ensuring ample legroom for a restful sleep. The seats feature an impressively large footwell and are equipped with multiple storage compartments a large side console table, and advanced seat controls. The seat controls are intuitive, so you can easily adjust your seating position and lighting.

The seats also feature a retractable armrest that can be lowered for additional space when sleeping. The large, adjustable tray table is perfect for both dining and working, and the personal reading light is a thoughtful touch for those who wish to read without disturbing their neighbors. The USB and plug power outlets are set inside the storage compartment, which can be a bit inconvenient especially as when you plug your phone into the USB outlet the headphones make an annoying static buzzing sound, making it impossible to charge your phone and use the headphones at the same time.

It’s worth noting that Cathay Pacific recently revealed a new ‘Aria Suite’ for its Boeing 777-300ER business cabin that is being progressively introduced. The Aria suites will include personal 24-inch 4K widescreen TVs with Bluetooth connectivity, a curated selection of artwork and high-speed charging ports and wireless charging stations. They will also include partitions between seats.

It’s not often you hear an airline praised for its palate-pleasing concoctions but Cathay Pacific is ... [+] especially famous for its bespoke inflight dining.

Food and Drink

It’s not often you hear an airline praised for its palate-pleasing concoctions but Cathay Pacific is especially famous for its bespoke inflight dining. Passengers can enjoy a variety of dishes, that offer a mix of Hong Kong favorites, as well as other Asian and international dishes. The airline has also partnered with Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred restaurant Louise and Michelin-starred restaurant Duddell’s (talk about an elevated meal service!) to present several reimagined French classic dishes.

No matter your food preferences, meals are designed to wow your tastebuds even at 35,000 feet and include dishes like braised Iberico pork belly with bacon jam, braised beef with port wine, and prawns with chili garlic lobster sauce, as well as exquisite desserts like vanilla panna cotta with green apple compote and Persian orange polenta cake. The airline also provides lighter options for those not wanting a full meal, as well as plant forward dishes.

The beverage list is equally as impressive. Cathay Pacific offers an award-winning wine selection meticulously curated to complement its onboard menus. The ever-expanding array of wines is expertly paired to match the diverse inflight cuisines and is sourced from top wine regions around the globe, including France, Italy, Austria, South Africa, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.

Cathay Pacific has also introduced Chinese wines to its inflight wine selection, showcasing top-tier offerings from renowned Chinese vineyards to complement its diverse onboard menus. It’s quite a unique experience to be able to explore a new and blossoming wine region aboard a plane! Other highlights include freshly brewed coffee (including cappuccino and café latte), non-alcoholic cocktails, the airline’s very own handcrafted pale ale, Betsy, and a refreshing signature drink.

The kit includes essentials such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, eye mask, earplugs, and skincare ... [+] products, all presented in a stylish pouch.

The amenities provided in Cathay Pacific's business class include high-quality noise-canceling headphones, a generous entertainment screen, and a well-stocked amenity kit featuring skincare products by UK luxury brand Bamford. The kit includes essentials such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, eye mask, earplugs, and skincare products, all presented in a stylish pouch. The lovely bag comes in four different colors. The inflight entertainment system offers a strong selection of international, multi-language movies, TV shows and games, ensuring there is something for everyone. A surprisingly engaging way to whittle away a few hours is to watch the fascinating live feed from the plane’s tail or underbelly camera. The view is riveting, especially during takeoff and landing.

Wi-Fi is available at a reasonable price, ensuring passengers can stay connected throughout their flight. Additionally, the plush bedding, including a soft mattress pad, duvet, and pillow, ensures a comfortable sleep. When you’re not sleeping, head up to the galley to enjoy delectable snacks like ice cream, caramel popcorn and “anytime” meals like a burger or Chinese roast duck and noodles.

Service on Cathay Pacific's business class is generally commendable, with attentive and friendly ... [+] staff.

Service on Cathay Pacific's business class is generally commendable, with attentive and friendly staff. The cabin crew is always more than happy to prepare you a drink or a snack when requested. However, aside from when your order is first taken for a pre-dinner drink and your meals, service is best described as passive, meaning outside of set meals and beverage service, you’ll generally have to request anything additional. You won’t really get frequent passthroughs in the cabin with offers of snacks or beverages. Though, when requested, staff respond in an incredibly friendly and welcoming manner. This more reactive approach to service can be particularly appealing for those who appreciate a minimum amount of disruption in the cabin, especially during sleep time.

The Wing First Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport is a luxurious sanctuary for Cathay ... [+] Pacific's premium passengers

The Wing First Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport is a luxurious sanctuary for Cathay Pacific's premium passengers. This expansive lounge has exactly what any harried passenger needs to escape the exhausting, nerve-wracking experience of a typical airport.

One of its standout features is the stylish Cabanas, which offer private spaces equipped with large baths (yes, soaker tubs in the airport!), rain showers, day beds, and ample working areas. These Cabanas, along with serviced shower suites stocked with luxury Bamford amenities, ensure passengers can relax or catch up on work in complete privacy and comfort.

In addition to its private relaxation areas, The Wing boasts a range of dining options to cater to different tastes. The lounge includes a full-service restaurant, Haven, with an à la carte menu, a champagne bar, a bar, freshly cooked snacks (including a delicious warm Cuban sandwich) private workstations and plush, comfortable seating. It’s the kind of lounge that succeeds in that most miraculous of accomplishments: making you look forward to a long layover.

Overall, Cathay Pacific's business class offers a superior travel experience with its comfortable seating, excellent dining, and top-notch amenities, not to mention the indulgent lounges. It certainly deserves its reputation as one of the world’s best business class offerings.

Editoral Review of Gate 1 Travel

Founded in 1981 with three employees and based in suburban Philadelphia, Gate 1 now employs more than 200 people worldwide with offices in 20 countries, ranging from Hungary to Cambodia, Argentina to Israel.

What Makes Gate 1 Stand Out?

  • Escorted tours & river cruises
  • Good value
  • High quality guides

Gate 1 offers a variety of tour packages and river cruises around the world, promising to provide exceptional value for the price. They focus on North American travelers who seek “high quality, yet affordable” guided trips, with accommodations ranging from superior tourist to moderate deluxe class.

They have a lot of different choices when it comes to destinations, durations, and inclusions. Most tours have additional offerings for meals, activities, and excursions available for additional fees.

Traveler reviews for Gate 1 oscillate between 5 star and 1 star experiences. Those that have had an excellent time cite the tour pacing, guides, and extensive sightseeing opportunities as positives.

Those for whom these same factors contributed to a negative experience may have had higher expectations than is available or offered for the competitive budget prices that Gate 1 is known for.

Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Gate 1?

  • Low to mid budget travelers
  • Those open to simple accommodation and meal plans

Gate 1 is the perfect travel choice for families, couples, and friend groups seeking a cost efficient journey. As Gate 1 is a strictly budget minded brand, it’s important to be fully aware of the trade-off when you choose to travel with them.

You will see a lot, and be out and about visiting several sites - however keeping costs low is one of their main priorities. This means hotels will be basic, meals won’t be 5 star, and your coach will have fewer amenities. In addition tours with Gate 1 feature several optional add ons and sightseeing tours, not included in the base price. Average tour price is around $2,000, often less.

If you’re flexible, open minded, and are interested in maximizing your sightseeing above all else, Gate 1 could be for you. Knowing what to expect is key for enjoying the trip to the fullest.

Top Destinations

Gate 1 tours

Gate 1 trips cover much of the world, including destinations in North, Central, and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Itineraries focus on the top sights, historical attractions, and national parks.

Gate 1 Travel Style

In a nutshell, the Gate 1 travel style is “see a lot for a little”. Hotels and accommodations are usually 3 star hotels. Expect basic comforts, with fewer amenities available. However if you’re the kind of traveler for whom a bed and some coffee in the morning is a fine trade-off for busy days outside and tons of sightseeing, the trade-off will be worth it.

You will be met on the ground with a dedicated tour leader, available to assist throughout your travel experience.

Escorted group bus tours are a big part of their business - between 24-42 people. These coaches are again, more utility focused than amenity focused, but you will be comfortable. And in general bus tours take frequent stops to allow for stretching legs and using of facilities.

Gate 1 also offers small group tours (with a maximum of 22 people), river cruises on two continents, independent city stays and fly and drive packages, rail packages, customized vacations, and combination bus/cruise tours -- something for almost everyone interested in a budget vacation.

Why Choose a Tour With Gate 1?

For the budget traveler, Gate 1 is a fantastic choice. They offer several types of trip package to choose from, including rail, river cruise, and small group tours, at competitive rates. Their escorted tours are extremely popular, and customers repeat trips with them regularly.

While Gate 1 is the primary brand, and they are all about giving a positive and packed international travel experience on a budget, other brands associated with Gate 1 are more premium focused. These include the Signature collection, offering luxury tour options and smaller groups.

Pandemic Zoom Boom: Airline Travel Impact

  • Last updated Jul 14, 2024

Susan Meyers

  • Category Travel

does zoom affect airline travel

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the aviation industry, with many airlines relying on revenue from business travellers to subsidise discounted tickets for leisure passengers. In this context, the rise of video conferencing platforms such as Zoom has led some experts to predict a permanent decline in business air travel. However, others argue that the desire for in-person interactions and the limitations of virtual meetings will lead to a strong revival of business travel in the coming years. While it is technically possible to use Zoom on an aeroplane, the quality of the connection can be variable and there may be restrictions due to bandwidth limitations or to maintain a quiet environment for all passengers.

What You'll Learn

Zoom's impact on business travel, the future of business travel, zoom's effect on airlines' revenue, using zoom on a plane: practicalities, zoom's competition.

quartzmountain

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on business travel, with many companies embracing remote work and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet. While these platforms have enabled businesses to maintain operations and connections during the pandemic, they have also sparked debates about the future of business air travel.

Before the pandemic, business travellers contributed significantly to the revenue of airlines. For example, in the US, business travellers accounted for 30% of trips but generated half of the airlines' revenue, according to Airlines for America. However, the convenience and cost-effectiveness of video conferencing have led some experts, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, to predict a permanent decline in business travel. Gates forecasts that companies will be reluctant to send their employees on business trips post-pandemic, opting instead for virtual meetings and remote work.

While the aviation industry has largely dismissed Gates' prediction as overly pessimistic, there is a consensus that some portion of business travel may not return. A study by Idea Works found that 19-36% of airline business travel could be lost, with intra-company meetings and commutes being prime candidates for cost-saving measures and remote work. This potential loss of business travellers could deal a significant blow to airlines, especially those that rely heavily on this segment, such as Lufthansa and British Airways.

However, proponents of business travel argue that face-to-face interactions and handshakes are essential for building trust and forging new partnerships. They suggest that "Zoom fatigue" will drive a strong revival in business travel once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, as seen in China and Germany. Additionally, certain challenges associated with virtual meetings, such as technological limitations and the need for private and secure discussions, may further encourage businesses to revert to in-person meetings.

In conclusion, while video conferencing platforms like Zoom have undoubtedly impacted business travel, the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Businesses will need to weigh the benefits of virtual meetings against the value of in-person interactions as they navigate the post-pandemic landscape.

Exploring Baldur's Gate: The Benefits of Solo Travel

You may want to see also

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the way we live and work, and the aviation industry is no exception. With the rise of video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, businesses have embraced remote work and reduced their reliance on air travel for meetings and conferences. This shift has led to a decline in business air travel, dealing a significant blow to an industry already struggling due to the pandemic.

While it is clear that video conferencing has played a role in reducing business air travel, the extent of its impact is still debated. Some experts, like Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, predict that more than 50% of business travel will permanently disappear in a post-pandemic world. However, others argue that the importance of in-person interactions and the limitations of virtual meetings will lead to a strong revival of business travel.

One key factor to consider is the financial impact of business travel on the aviation industry. Business travellers, particularly those in business class, tend to pay higher prices for tickets and contribute significantly to airline revenues. With the decline in business travel, airlines may need to re-evaluate their business models and find new ways to attract leisure travellers or corporate clients who require remote work solutions.

Additionally, the effectiveness of video conferencing for different types of business interactions varies. While virtual meetings can be useful for regular check-ins or information-sharing sessions, their limitations become apparent when it comes to building trust, forging new partnerships, or repairing client relationships. The personal connection and serendipity of in-person interactions are difficult to replicate virtually, and this may drive a return to business travel, especially for relationship-building purposes.

In conclusion, while video conferencing platforms like Zoom may have contributed to a decrease in business air travel, it is unlikely to signal the end of business flights. As the world moves forward, the aviation industry will need to adapt to the changing needs of businesses and find a balance between virtual and in-person interactions. The future of business travel will likely involve a more selective approach to air travel, with companies weighing the cost-effectiveness and convenience of virtual meetings against the value of face-to-face interactions.

Traveling Therapy: Know Before You Go

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the airline industry, and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom have been predicted to affect airlines' revenue streams further, particularly in the business travel sector.

Before the pandemic, US airlines generated half of their revenue from business travellers, despite these travellers only accounting for 30% of trips. Business travellers tend to pay full-price, flexible tickets, and their loss would significantly impact airlines' profits. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates predicted that over 50% of business travel would be lost to the aviation industry permanently, as companies become more accustomed to remote working.

However, some experts disagree with this prediction, arguing that the need for in-person interactions and the limitations of virtual meetings will lead to a revival of business travel. A McKinsey survey showed that business travel rebounded strongly in China once COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, and a German Travel Management Association (VDR) survey found that 46% of German firms view business travel as necessary.

While video conferencing platforms may have an impact on the number of business travellers, they can also be used during flights. Many airlines now offer in-flight Wi-Fi, allowing passengers to stay connected and attend virtual meetings at 35,000 feet. However, the quality and speed of these connections vary, and some airlines may restrict video calls to maintain a quiet environment or due to bandwidth limitations.

The use of Zoom and similar platforms during flights can be beneficial for business travellers, but it also presents challenges. In-flight Wi-Fi may not always be consistent, and passengers may experience interruptions or poor call quality. Additionally, most airlines only allow Wi-Fi use when the plane has reached cruising altitude, and using Zoom on long-haul flights can be more challenging due to limited device charging options.

Overall, while Zoom and other video conferencing platforms may reduce the number of business travellers, they also offer opportunities for business travellers to stay connected during flights. The impact of these platforms on airlines' revenue streams is yet to be fully determined, as the post-pandemic landscape of business travel continues to evolve.

Alerting Visa: Travel Plans

Using Zoom on a plane is possible, but there are a few things to consider before joining that video call at 35,000 feet.

Firstly, not all airlines offer in-flight Wi-Fi, and of those that do, the quality and speed of the service can vary. Some airlines may offer sufficient bandwidth to support a Zoom call, while others might only provide enough for checking emails or web browsing. It's important to check with your airline about their Wi-Fi capabilities and policies before booking your ticket if you plan to Zoom during your flight.

If your airline does offer in-flight Wi-Fi, you'll need to sign up for the service and purchase a data plan. Some airlines offer complimentary internet service with limited data, while others charge for access or offer tiered pricing. The cost of using Wi-Fi on a plane varies, with some airlines offering different data packages at different price points.

Once you're in the air, you may find that you can't access Wi-Fi during takeoff and landing, as most airlines only allow its use when the plane has reached cruising altitude. And even when you're connected, the internet speed may not always be consistent, leading to interruptions during your Zoom call. It's recommended to switch off your video and use only audio to save bandwidth.

Additionally, remember to put your device in airplane mode before taking off. This will turn off your cellular connections, but you can still turn on Wi-Fi and connect to the plane's network.

Other things to keep in mind when Zooming on a plane include using a VPN to improve call quality, wearing headphones to avoid disturbing fellow passengers, and being mindful of time zones and in-cabin lighting—you don't want to be the only one on the call with the sun blazing in on your face or with everyone around you trying to sleep.

So, while it is possible to Zoom from the sky, it requires some planning and adjusting your expectations.

The Benefits of Traveling Before Starting a Family

Zoom is a California-based cloud platform that offers video communication solutions for sectors such as education, finance, and healthcare. It has a market share of 71.88% with more than 172,043 companies using the software. Some of Zoom's top competitors include:

  • Skype for Business (formerly Lync)
  • GoToMeeting
  • Cisco Webex Meetings

Frequently asked questions.

Yes, but the quality of your connection will vary depending on factors such as your airline, flight route, and in-flight Wi-Fi options.

The quality of your call may be lower than if you were using ground-based Wi-Fi. You may also want to use a VPN to improve the quality of your call and a calling app such as WhatsApp, which uses less data than Zoom.

No, but an increasing number of airlines are starting to. For example, American Airlines, Delta, and United all offer some form of in-flight Wi-Fi.

The cost varies depending on the airline. Some airlines, like United, offer different tiers of pricing depending on how much data you want to use. For United U.S. domestic and short-haul international flights, Wi-Fi costs $8, or 1,600 miles, or $10 for everyone else.

No, you will need a stable internet connection to use Zoom.

Gate.io is a global cryptocurrency exchange and leverage trading platform for high-risk traders. It's no longer available in the United States. However, The business announced in 2022 its plans to reintroduce itself to United States-based investors with a new trading platform called Gate US . There's no official launch date at this time.

Business Insider's personal finance team compared Gate.io to the best cryptocurrency exchanges and found it lacked transparency and access for States-based investors.

Gate.io is a global cryptocurrency and NFT exchange offering comprehensive trading and leveraging services s for active traders. It offers thousands of digital coins, tokens, and other investable securities. However, Gate.io is no longer available to investors based in the United States.

It employs blockchain solutions to keep its users' assets and transactions safe. These strategies include cross-cryptocurrency address technology, hot and cold wallet storage, multi-signature security protection technology, and real-time asset transfer technology.

Despite Gate.io's beginner-focused content and access to research and trading guides, the platform is difficult to navigate and may not be accessible to crypto newbies. Beginners might find reading the platform's trending charts and market updates difficult while sorting through the multiple landing pages, programs, and services.

In March 2022, the business launched the website for Gate US, which will offer many of the same trading features as its parent platform. There's no official launch date and little to no updates over the last couple of years. That said, Gate US still has an active homepage and X (formally Twitter) account.

Gate.io: Overall Rating

Here are some of Gate.io's most notable features and investment strategies:

Gate.io Individual Account

Gate.io lets you trade cryptocurrencies, futures, ETFs, and NFTs for other cryptocurrencies (e.g., exchanging bitcoin for dogecoin and vice versa). Its ETFs comprise mainstream cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The platform offers instant trading of multiple types of fiat money .

You can also use trading bots, which use a variety of quantitative strategies (auto and customized options), to mimic top Gate.io earners. With Gate.io, you can buy cryptocurrencies using a credit card or through your bank. You can also trade cryptocurrencies directly with crypto-to-crypto trading (aka spot trading).

The exchange's "push transactions" feature allows you to transfer a crypto asset to another account. The "flash swap" functionality lets you swap one currency with another within minutes. Futures trading, ETF trading, margin trading, and crypto lending.

Gate.io users can open a sub-account for more investment and asset management strategies in addition to their main investment account. Main accounts are now referred to as "master" accounts, and users can easily move assets between them.

Margin Trading

You can choose between two margin levels:

  • Isolated margin: Users assign a margin to a certain position, and it only liquidates if the margin falls below the desired maintenance level.
  • Cross margin: Users can assign the margin between two positions within the same cryptocurrency. The margin then takes funds from the account balance as needed to avoid liquidation.

Copy Trading

If you'd rather rely on the expertise of other experienced traders, Gate.io explains copy trading as a feature that allows you to mirror successful traders' strategies. You can easily view other users' performance to decide whether you'd like to copy their investment strategies, and Gate.io also offers daily copy-trading strategy recommendations.

Gate.io Magic Box NFT

You can create and purchase NFT s with Gate.io's Magic Box NFT platform. It allows for auctions and the trading of NFTs in many areas, including art, games, music, and more. Plus, creators can minimize gas fees by minting (the process of creating an NFT and adding it to the blockchain) for free.

Gate.io Fees

Gate.io 's tiered fee structure determines discount rates on spot trading, futures trading, crypto lending, and interest rates. It's based on your 30-day trading volume, with lower rates on higher trading volumes. This is a standard structure followed by many crypto exchanges.

That said, Gate US may use a different structure or charge additional fees. At this time, Gate US has said little about what to expect from its United States-based exchange.

Pros and Cons Gate.io

Gate.io trustworthiness.

Business Insider typically assesses trustworthiness in part by reviewing each investment platform's Better Business Bureau profile. BBB ratings range from A+ to F and reflect the bureau's opinion of how well a company interacts with its customers, but Gate.io doesn't have a BBB profile at this time.

In June 2023, Gate.io shut down alleged rumors of liquidity issues and a possible bankruptcy filing that sparked panic among Gate.io users. In a tweet , the business threatened legal action against the crypto investors that spread the rumors.

In recent years, crypto publications have widely reported that Gate.io was hacked in 2018, according to an alert from blockchain security tracker CertiKAlert . Crypto user ZachXBT, an account with over 600,000 followers,  tweeted about the same hack. Gate.io has not responded to these allegations nor disclosed a hack to customers.

In October 2022, Gate.io's official Twitter account was hacked. Fake giveaways were tweeted out to users, asking for folks to connect their digital wallets to a suspicious link. The scam was caught early and shut down.

Gate.io vs. Other Cryptocurrency Exchanges

Gate.io vs. coinbase.

Gate.io  and Coinbase both offer a vast collection of cryptocurrency products and NFTs.

Coinbase is one of the largest States-based crypto exchanges, offering hundreds of coins and tokens with a beginner-friendly interface, cold wallet storage, and an NFT marketplace. While novice crypto traders can use the platform, it's best for experienced investors interested in using Coinbase Advanced or signing up with Coinbase One.

Gate.io isn't currently available in the US. Plus, its inaccessible and convoluted platform makes it difficult to navigate and find up-to-date information. In general, Coinbase is the better overall exchange.

Coinbase review

Gate.io vs. Kraken

Like Gate.io, Kraken is a cryptocurrency exchange that offers a large selection of coins and tokens, account perks, and futures trading.

Kraken is a better choice for advanced users overall due to its Pro version, which offers margin trading, lower fees, and advanced charting tools. Kraken is also available in the United States, while Gate.io is not.

Kraken review

Gate.io FAQs

Gate.io is a safe exchange. There have been no public lawsuits against the business, and no official hacks reported in the last few years. However, some users have reported possible account hacks and suspicious activity.

Fees on Gate.io are based on users' 30-day trading volume. Like many crypto exchanges, the more you trade, the lower the fees. Some fees include spreads, transactions, and management fees.

Gate.io offers copy trading and daily strategy recommendations for users to follow and easily mimic successful investing strategies from other users. Users can view their performance and apply their strategies to their own portfolios.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Reviewed Gate.io

Gate.io cryptocurrency exchange was reviewed using Business Insider's rating methodology for investing platforms to examine investment options, ethics, fees, and overall customer experience when reviewing investing platforms. Platforms are given a rating from 0 to 5.

Cryptocurrency exchanges generally offer multiple assets, trading tools, and other educational resources. Some exchanges are better for more advanced or active investors, while others may be better for beginners and passive investors. Gate.io was evaluated with a focus on how it performs in each category.

Why you have to walk so far to your gate at the airport

Heading to the airport ? Make sure to wear comfortable shoes.

As travel comes roaring back , people are walking longer distances from the curb to the gate — past Hudson News, Chanel and Estée Lauder duty free, lounges, Auntie Anne’s, and Starbucks. And that’s just the first leg. These days, your concourse walk never seems to end.

“I have just travelled thru the new LaGuardia airport. It confirms a theory of mine,” former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers recently observed . “The newer the terminal, the less convenient it is to use because all the walks are longer. I wonder why?”

Treks at the airport have been getting worse ever since security changes were implemented after the September 11, 2001, attacks. More changes came during the pandemic. Larger aircraft — which mean planes tend to be spaced out farther for takeoff and landing safety — have made hikes at the airport even longer.

But it’s mostly because bigger is better for the airport business, even if it’s harder on your feet. In Newark, Chicago and other cities’ airport terminals, moving walkways have been removed to make room for more shops and restaurants.

“You get to the gate and you’re exhausted,” said Henry Harteveldt, who covers the travel industry for Atmosphere Research Group. “You are dealing increasingly with airports that are designed around financial objectives and safety. The traveler gets lost in the dust.”

Designing 21st-century travel

Many US airports were built during the middle of the 20th century, and have undertaken massive expansion plans in the 21st. New gate extensions and recent renovations have made concourses longer.

After September 11, security checkpoints were added to existing terminals and essentially divided terminals in two, increasing the space travelers need to walk, said Alexander Thome, who leads design firm Stantec’s US airport work.

Airports have added more retail and concession stands in terminals as airlines pull back on in-flight meals. This has pushed airports to offer more amenities in their terminals that aren’t offered on-board, he said.

Airports bring in revenue in two main ways: Aeronautical revenue, such as fees airports charge to airlines to use runways, taxiways and parking. And non-aeronautical revenue — parking and rental car fees, retail rents, and advertising.

Airports are trying to increase the portion of non-aeronautical revenue they draw. Operators have added more stores, restaurants and bars, especially as more travelers take mass transit and rideshares to airports and parking income declines.

“People joke that today airports are shopping malls that have airplanes parked outside,” Harteveldt said. “If you look at design of terminals, much of the added space is given over to retail services.”

Planes have also gotten bigger to cram more passengers on board — known as “upgauging” — and airlines have retired some of their smaller planes. United, for example, is replacing 200 smaller regional jets that carry about 50 passengers each.

Larger planes mean they need to be spaced farther apart on the tarmac.

“There’s a much better business case for larger planes. That’s pushing airlines to upguage their fleet,” said Wilson Rayfield, executive vice president of aviation at Gresham Smith, an architectural firm. “When you park 10 planes next to each other and they’re 75 feet, it naturally translates to a much longer walk.”

‘Fitness trail’

Sprawling airports also create hassles for crews and airport employees trying to make flights take off on time.

Some airports have added electronic signs that estimate for travelers how many minutes it will take them to get to their gate or how long it will take terminal-linking monorails to arrive.

The longest airport trek in the United States is at Dallas Fort Worth, where the walk from an entrance in Terminal B to Terminal E is 2.16 miles, according to a study by shoe company Kuru Footwear. (Luckily, the airport has a train.)

Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport has a “fitness trail” where travelers can view mountains, parks and other city landmarks from the concourses.

Some new airport terminals have recently opened without moving walkways. Travelers were not happy.

Last year, Orlando International Airport opened a new $2.8 billion terminal , but it left out moving walkways. Airport leaders are now voting on a plan to install them, after multiple complaints from travelers.

Salt Lake City International Airport in 2020 opened a new terminal, but it has been a major source of criticism for its walks to the gate, which can take more than 20 minutes. The airport is now building a tunnel to shorten the walk from security to the concourse.

So, are people missing flights now because they have to walk so far? Well, that’s the good news, sort of. Weather-related flight delays have been so common over the past year that millions of people are still being left waiting at the gate.

I wanted to find out so that you'll have the essential info on its tours, prices, destinations, and more! This way you'll be making a decision with lots of valuable knowledge.

What Is Gate 1 Travel?

If you're not a fan of traveling with strangers, my advice is to go with a travel agency or plan your own trip. Don't go with Gate 1 Travel or other travel groups. Plan and go discover on your own instead with Pilot!

That's because you will definitely be exploring with a group if you book with with Gate 1 Travel.

Numbers fluctuate, but if you're keen on staying in a smaller group, be sure to check out Gate 1's Small Group tours . Also known as Discovery Tours, there are no more than 22 travelers on these trips, so you won't have to worry about there being too many people with you.

‍ Discovery Tours also allow you to get up close and personal with the country you're visiting in a way that often isn't possible in larger, escorted tours.

How Large Are Gate 1 Travel Groups?

If you're not a fan of traveling with strangers, my advice is to go with a travel agency or plan your own trip. Don't go with Gate 1 Travel.

How Do I Book a Tour?

If you're interested in booking a tour with Gate 1 Travel, you'll first need to make an account.

You can head to the login page to do this. Once you've done that, you can start booking!

You'll select your tour region, followed by the country you want to visit and the tour that appeals most to you.

Choose your departure date, and decide whether you want flights included. You can then select those flights and any optional tours you may want to do during your trip.

What's Included in Gate 1 Travel Tours?

When booking a tour with Gate 1, you want to know what's included.

Something I liked to see is that every trip offers a "land only" and "air & land" price, so you can decide whether to have your flights included. Flights do only go to and from select cities, depending on your tour dates.

Escorted tours will include the following:

  • Accommodation for the nights of the tour
  • Hotel taxes and service charges
  • Transport between cities
  • Certain meals (what's included will be outlined in the tour details)
  • Sightseeing per the itinerary in an air-conditioned coach with a guide!

Not included is airfare for land-only trips, any visa-related fees, and optional extras you may decide to add to your tour.

How Do I Contact Gate 1 Travel Customer Service?

Whether you have a question or a complaint, it's never a bad idea to know how to contact customer service.

If you're traveling soon, you can get ahold of the team by phone. The company has 24-hour assistance line can be reached in the US by calling 215-572-7676.

Cancellation Policy

If you find you can no longer join your Gate 1 Travel tour, how can you cancel your trip?

Cancellation fees will then be applied based on how much time remains before your trip and will be applied as a percentage of what has already been paid.

Customer Reviews

Overall, travelers seem to be satisfied with Gate 1's services and its tours.

Many of the complaints speak to packages booked with flights and how flight cancellations or changes have upheaved entire trips. Others have also mentioned the mismatch of travel credits promised versus ones they actually offer.

Other travelers have complained about Gate 1's customer service as being difficult to reach and not entirely helpful. It sounds like quite a few individuals had a tough time getting a full refund for their trip, even with travel insurance, when booking with them.

Whether it's that explanations can't be given, refunds are not fully issued, or travelers are sent in circles, it sounds like customer service is a hit or miss.

Other complaints have also touched on the itineraries being too packed to truly enjoy what you're seeing or to feel rested enough for them.

Is Gate 1 Travel Worth It?

After all my reading, my advice is to proceed with caution. Here's why.

My first impression when I got onto the website is that this is mainly targeting an older audience, with their branding outdated to the 2000s. That's not a judging criteria, but just a red flag in my opinion.

While Gate 1 Travel offers a lot of packaged tours, the volume of travelers who have had their trips impacted by flights booked through Gate 1 is concerning.

Instead, I would avoid the flight risks by opting for land-only tours. If you go this route, Gate 1 does offer tours all over the world, so it's a good place to at least browse through when you're trying to make a decision.

They also offer other kind of tours like independent vacations, European river cruises, and customized international vacation packages, but it's honestly not for me. The price is way too expensive and I can frankly plan it myself.

They also seem to charge a bit more than the actual ticket for many attractions, which to me seems like a dealbreaker unless it is actually hard for me to get the travel reservations myself.

In Gate 1 Travel's benefit, they sure do have tons of locations. From Paris to Peru, From Ecuador to Budapest, their tour packages extend to many destinations around the world. They also offer discount travel packages there and here, so that's something to consider for all you deal-seekers.

Keep in mind that some comments were made about the itineraries being a bit packed. So, if you're more of a relaxed traveler, I would be very careful going with Gate 1 Travel.

That being said, if you want to do and see as much as humanly possibly, Gate 1 could be the tour company for you!

If you like the idea of booking a tour but still aren't convinced that Gate 1 Travel is right for you, make sure to also check out companies like EF and Intrepid !

Our Rating: 3.1/5

  • Tours all over the world
  • Small group options for more immersive experiences
  • Includes accommodation, and guided coach tours
  • Options for smaller group tours
  • Flight cancellations can result in trip cancellation
  • Poor customer service
  • Some feedback of packed schedules
