Packing a travel skincare routine can be tricky. On the one hand, you want to address all your regular skincare needs and be prepared for common travel-induced skin stressors such as drying plane cabins or extra time spent outside in the sun. On the other hand, limited luggage real estate and the TSA’s 3-1-1 rule for carrying on liquids will prevent you from piling all your favorite full-size skincare products into your bag.
When planning a trip, it’s wise to invest in a travel-size skincare set. All the items will already be in TSA-approved containers, so there’s no need for messy transfers into smaller vessels. Buying products as a set also simplifies the shopping process since the products are designed to be used in tandem. And you won’t have to worry about accidentally mixing incompatible skincare ingredients. Just consider testing the products before your trip to make sure any new ingredients don’t irritate your skin.
Keep reading to shop the travel-size skincare sets below, including several that I personally use and love.
Best Overall
Geologie travel skincare set.
It’s a full skincare routine (including SPF) designed by dermatologists.
If you’re new to retinol, spot-test the night cream before applying it all over your face.
Geologie’s sample set includes a full skincare routine without any extra fluff. Start your routine with the 2 percent salicylic acid cleanser, which promises to deeply cleanse your skin, unclog pores, and control excess oil. Next, the eye cream (powered by kojic acid, caffeine, and niacinamide) gently helps to banish any dark circles caused by lack of sleep on your red-eye flight. In the morning, you’ll finish with an SPF 15 niacinamide moisturizer for long-lasting hydration while controlling excess oil and shine. At night, your ritual culminates with a 0.2 percent retinol formula to target fine lines and wrinkles while hyaluronic acid and niacinamide boost hydration.
Since you’ll be using the cleanser morning and night, the set conveniently includes two tubes so you won’t risk running out. For short trips, you can leave one of the cleansers at home. The unisex set is best suited for oily, combination, or normal skin.
What’s Inside: Cleanser (2), SPF 15 moisturizer, night cream, eye cream
Best for Oily Skin
Origins 6-piece travel-size cleansing & moisturizing best-sellers set.
Five pore-clearing products are housed in a zippered carrying case.
It includes essential oils, which can irritate sensitive skin.
If you have oily skin, or if you’re overloading your skin sweat and/or makeup, you’ll want a skincare set that deeply cleanses your clogged pores. Origins’ five-step system does just that. It includes a frothy face wash, a soothing treatment lotion, a powerful anti-aging serum, and an oil-free gel moisturizer that won’t leave you feeling greasy. In addition, there’s a rinse-off charcoal mask that can be used once a week (or more, if needed) to purify and visibly reduce pores. There’s even a zippered carrying case included to keep all the items secure. Pro tip: apply the mask on the plane ride home to refresh your post-travel skin and give you an activity to help break up a boring flight.
What’s Inside: Cleanser, mask, treatment lotion, serum, moisturizer, carrying case
Best for Dry Skin
Drunk elephant the littles 7.0 travel skincare set.
The latest version of the fan-favorite set includes a new case and a tinted SPF moisturizer.
Three serums might be too much for skincare minimalists.
Plane cabins are notorious for drying out your skin, and if your epidermis leans dry to begin with, you’ll want to make sure you’re loaded up on deeply moisturizing skincare products. Drunk Elephant launched the latest version of their fan-favorite Littles kit, and it’s ideal for skin that needs extra quenching. It includes a provitamin B5-infused serum (to be used day and night) designed to flood the skin with intense hydration. Also along for the ride: a vitamin C day serum, a glycolic night serum, a makeup-removing jelly cleanser, a peptide moisturizer, and a sheer, tinted SPF 30 mineral cream that is made to blur imperfections while adding a layer of sun protection.
What’s Inside: Cleanser, moisturizer, tinted face sunscreen, day and night serums (3), carrying case
Best for Combination Skin
Fenty skin travel-size start'r set.
It includes multitasking products that help cut down your skincare haul.
It doesn’t include a non-SPF night cream.
Combination skin requires products that hydrate and nourish the dryer portions of the skin but also don’t exacerbate oiliness in the oily sections. This three-step skincare routine by Fenty Skin is ideal for those with combination skin because it includes products that are moisturizing and oil-free. The cleanser is gentle yet tough enough to eradicate makeup including waterproof mascara. A toner-serum hybrid dubbed Fat Water can tighten the look of pores, brighten, and reduce shine. The last step is a mineral SPF 30 hyaluronic acid moisturizer that won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. As a bonus, there’s also a single-use, sample-size packet of body cream to toss in your toiletry bag .
What’s Inside: Cleanser, toner-serum hybrid, SPF 30 moisturizer, body cream (sample size)
Best for Sensitive Skin
Tula discovery 5-piece essentials kit.
The no-frills skincare products can all be used morning and night.
It doesn’t include SPF.
Tula’s skincare products are powered by probiotic extracts, superfoods, and other ingredients designed to prevent irritating the skin. This travel-friendly set includes a turmeric-infused, makeup-removing gel cleanser, which is perfect for evening skincare routines. Next, a glycolic acid toner exfoliates and hydrates your skin, followed by an illuminating serum featuring Japanese mandarin. The last step is a non-comedogenic squalane-infused moisturizer. Since all the products can be used both day and night, you won’t need to double up on any of your items, ultimately giving you more luggage space.
What’s Inside: Cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, carrying case
Best for Acne-prone Skin
Paula's choice mini clear skin starter set.
The set includes salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to fight breakouts.
The active ingredients can irritate sensitive skin.
Traveling can exacerbate acne: air quality, change in humidity levels, and water quality (to name a few) can make your skin upset. If your face is prone to breakouts, consider vacationing with a set designed to stave off pimples, like this one from Paula’s Choice. It includes a salicylic acid cleanser, a two percent salicylic acid exfoliating solution, a two and a half percent benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, and an oil-free gel-cream moisturizer. Just remember that salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can both increase sensitivity to the sun, so it’s important to follow your skincare regimen with SPF 30 or higher (not included in this set) for daytime use.
What’s Inside: Cleanser, exfoliating solution, spot treatment, moisturizer
Best with SPF
Dermstore best of dermstore: the travel edit kit.
It includes a variety of mini products, from cult-favorite under-eye patches to whitening toothpaste.
It’s best for people who enjoy more extensive skincare routines.
No matter where you’re headed, SPF should be a top-tier item on your packing list. This 11-piece collection includes two SPF 30 products to shield your skin from harmful rays: a minty lip balm and a mineral sunscreen. Other delights in the zippered carrying case include a gentle gel cleanser, a brightening eye cream, two nourishing moisturizers, non-aerosol dry shampoo, and whitening toothpaste. For those who don’t mind a few extra steps in their vacation skincare routine, there’s also an exfoliating peel, a retinol serum, and under-eye patches. Travel + Leisure editors are big fans of using under-eye patches on long-hauls flights , so we recommend using those to arrive at your destination looking fresh and feeling hydrated.
What’s Inside: Cleanser, eye cream, two moisturizers, peel pads, retinol serum, sunscreen, lip balm, dry shampoo, under-eye patches, carrying case
Best for Lips
Laneige icons to go set.
The overnight lip mask can be used during the daytime, too.
It doesn’t include a cleanser or SPF.
This set helps deliver a surge of hydration to your skin and lips — which is likely much needed if you’ve just exited the dry atmosphere of a plane cabin. After cleansing, gently pat the ceremide- and peptide-filled cream-toner hybrid into your skin. Follow with the hyaluronic acid moisturizer, and finish with the leave-on water sleeping mask at night. Though the lip balm included in this set is technically an overnight lip mask, many people (including me) multipurpose it for daytime use as well. It’s thick without being sticky, and it has a delicious berry scent.
What’s Inside: Toner, day moisturizer, lip mask, night moisturizer
Best for Eyes
Kiehl’s on-the-go essentials gift set.
It includes a nourishing and creamy avocado eye treatment.
Retinol (in the serum) can irritate sensitive skin.
Red-eye flights can lead to tired, puffy eyes, but this six-piece set has the perfect antidote: Kiehl’s fan-favorite avocado oil- and shea butter-infused eye cream, which promises to hydrate, depuff, and brighten eyes. Other goodies in this bundle include a foaming squalane cleanser, a potent daily retinol serum, a squalane face moisturizer, and a nighttime face oil that targets wrinkles and fine lines. If your skin tends to get oily or break out, you’ll enjoy the included rinse-off face mask. The Amazonian white clay and aloe mask are designed to minimize pores and blackheads when left on the skin for 10 minutes (per the brand’s instructions).
What’s Inside: Cleanser, retinol serum, eye cream, mask, moisturizer, face oil
Best for Body
Alo glow system discovery set.
The six-piece set includes both face and body products.
Sunscreen is not included.
If your trip accommodation is not a hotel, you may need to pack your own body wash and lotion. In this case, this face and body set from Alo is a great option. It includes a brightening enzyme facial cleanser, which you’ll follow with an unscented facial moisturizer. For your body routine, there’s a hydrating vitamin C body wash and a destressing superfruit body lotion. There’s also a head-to-toe glow oil, which promises to deeply hydrate the skin and lock in moisture. A magnesium and vitamin C body spray that can relieve muscle tension will come in handy for adventurous types that have an activity-filled trip planned.
What’s Inside: Face cleanser, face moisturizer, body wash, body lotion, face and body oil, body mist
Tips for Buying Travel-size Skincare Kits
Consider size limitations and quantity.
The TSA limits the amount of liquids, gels, and aerosols that can be stowed in your carry-on to 3.4 ounces apiece. Beyond that, all of your liquids must fit in one quart-sized resealable bag. If you want to travel with more liquids or larger-sized containers, they must be packed in your checked bag .
When choosing a travel-size skincare kit, consider other liquids that you’ll need to add as well, including (but not limited to) toothpaste, sunscreen, bug spray, shampoo, and conditioner. If you’re having trouble fitting all of your items in a quart-sized bag, consider leaving behind some items (like body wash and shampoo) that are typically made available in hotel bathrooms.
Choose the best set for your skincare needs
When you travel, it’s important to consider your skin type (normal, oily, combination, or sensitive) and choose a travel-sized skincare set that’s tailored to your skin’s specific needs. You’ll also want to be mindful of your trip destination and any intended activities. For instance, if you’re traveling to a colder climate, be prepared for drier skin and chapped lips. If you’re headed to a beachy location, don’t forget to load up on sunscreen .
Any liquid, gel, or aerosol skincare products in your carry-on or personal item must be 3.4 ounces or less. If you want to carry-on a product that comes in a larger container, consider transferring it to a 3.4-ounce-or-less leak-proof vessel before your flight or packing it in your checked bag.
The air circulated in plane cabins is very dry, and therefore can leave your skin feeling dry as well. It’s advised to moisturize your face and lips before you board a plane. On long-haul flights, you may want to carry a travel-size moisturizer and lip balm with you to reapply hydration mid-flight.

A beauty editor’s tip? Visualize the entire routine you’ll practice once you land from start to finish. You’ll want at least one complexion product to even skin tone and veil imperfections, along with multitasking pigments to bring warmth and subtle color to the face—plus, whatever you use to awaken your gaze, like eyeliner or mascara. And if your plans call for glam, eyeshadows and lipsticks are worthwhile additions, too. Below, we’ve created the ultimate makeup packing guide for your summer holiday and beyond.
Trusted Organizers
First things first, determine what travel makeup organizers work best for you. Maybe you already own the best toiletry bag that can fit both your skin-care and makeup necessities, or perhaps you’d prefer to store them separately. July’s water-resistant case has spacious compartments, transparent pockets, and even a detachable wet pouch—perfect to secure in your carry-on . Otherwise, consider Telena’s zippered pouch, which is wide enough to fit all your cosmetics, yet still compact to pop in your purse or personal item for easy access.

From the Oscars red carpet to the Met Gala , experts routinely emphasize the importance of skin prep for glowing skin with or without makeup. Our takeaway? Rely on nourishing formulas and face primers to prep your base. We’d reach for an exceptionally hydrating and soothing serum first, then the French pharmacy favorite Embryolisse cream to restore moisture and ready skin for makeup.

Refreshing Mists
The best face mists can be used to give skin a generous moisture boost before makeup application, or even lock in hydration throughout the day. Either way, these formulas will always come in handy. La Roche-Posay’s is made with the brand’s soothing thermal spring water, which boasts skin healing properties; whereas Tatcha’s delivers ingredients like Uji green tea, Akita rice, and Mozuku algae to reveal a luminous glow.

Multitasking Tools
You might be fine with applying all of your makeup with your fingers; if you favor a more precise approach, don’t forget to pack the beauty tools you rely on at home to perfect your look. Consider taking a makeup brush set like this one by Hourglass which features 17 super-soft, vegan brushes designed for the face, cheeks, and eyes. Or, opt for a single dual-ended option that pairs two different brush types in one—a larger side for sculpting and a smaller end for deft blending of the under-eye or eyelids.

Flawless Complexion
Selecting your vacation complexion products is arguably the hardest part, with so many different types of foundations and tints to choose from—not to mention your own skin color potentially changing after spending time in the sun. You can't go wrong with Rare Beauty’s tinted moisturizer that even boasts sun protection plus soothing agents like lotus, gardenia, and white water lily, whereas someone after a more skin-like finish will appreciate the ever-evolving world of complexion balms . Anastasia Beverly Hills’s latest launch blends shockingly easy, making it seamless to swipe on and go.

Customizable Concealer
With your complexion set with an undetectable wash of skin tint or tinted moisturizer, next is to turn to a concealer to brighten dark circles and/or cover up blemishes. Merit’s The Minimalist stick will do just that. While many use it in lieu of foundation, I’m quite fond of it as a concealer—it is, after all, just small enough for deft application along the under-eye and never budges when swiped atop a pimple. For those interested in more traditional options, Natasha Denona’s concealer goes a long way. It’s very creamy but blends with ease, meaning you can cover whatever you like with just a dot of product.

Adaptable Color
The secret to keeping your makeup bag light is opting for versatile pigments that can quickly and easily awaken your complexion—instead of, say, carrying around several blushes and bronzers. Versatility is key on any kind of vacation! Make Up For Ever’s HD Skin Face Essentials palette is my favorite at the moment; it contains hues perfect for blush, bronzer, highlight, concealer, and foundation and cuts my beauty bag in half. Those partial to powders will love Chanel’s Healthy Glow powder. With a simple sweep, the formula creates a natural-looking flush that combines a blush, bronzer, and highlighter in one.

Set & Blur
Even on vacation, it’s important to lock your look in place appropriately. Charlotte Tilbury’s setting powder is excellent to have on hand to reduce shine and blur skin where you need it, earning bonus points for mess-free application (as opposed to loose setting powder options). Same goes for Kosas’s Cloud Set which delivers a soft blur and dreamy skin—so weightless, you’re likely to forget you’re wearing it.

Enticing Eyes
Play up your eyes by way of the a multitasking eyeliner or eyeshadow palette—both of which work wonders to make your eyes pop and enhance their shape. To perfect your signature wing or add dimension to your look, Victoria Beckham’s water-proof formula allows you to precisely etch color however you see fit, and even smudge it out for a more sultry, smokey effect. To amp things up a tad more, take your pick of two Ilia eyeshadow palettes—one Cool, the other Warm—to give lids a dusting of modern matte, satin, and metallic hues.

Fluffy Lashes
Even a lazy, post-beach look can benefit from several strokes of mascara. I mean who doesn’t want their eyes to pop? When it comes to fluffy, fluttering lashes on vacay, you’ll likely want something waterproof and flake-free. Makeup artists say L’Oréal's Lash Paradise is a classic that opens the eyes with a feathery bristled brush. Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara is equally as sought-after for its ability to deliver buildable volume, length, and fullness.

Tinted Lips
Makeup artists say that the key to nailing a minimalist makeup look is adding an accent of color. One of the easiest ways to do so while traveling is by keeping a tinted lip product on hand for a statement-making moment. Summer Friday’s lip oil has been a hit since its debut earlier this year; it leaves your pout softer and moisturized after each application. Not a big gloss fan? Reach for Westman Atelier’s matte lipstick for chic, buildable color no matter the occasion.

TSA-friendly favorites that fit nicely in your carry-on

What to Keep in Mind
Your questions, answered, why shop with us.
InStyle/Leticia Almeida
Imagine: You’ve spent months, maybe even years, trying out way too many makeup products to count, and you’ve finally curated your perfect collection of formulas, shades, and tools. You’ve lined them up across your vanity so beautifully that even a Sephora associate would envy the display. Then suddenly, you’re a week away from your vacation, and reality hits: How can I get my makeup stash there safely? There is a simple solution: Makeup bags.
Depending on your needs, beauty collection, and travel destination, the right makeup bag for you will differ from the next person. Destination bridal makeup artist, Tia Codrington , recommends having a clear makeup case. Not only “has it helped me with organization, but it’s useful during security checks in the airport because security officers have a clear view of what’s inside the bag without having to go through all your stuff,” she says.
For those who lack organizational acumen, we did our best Marie Kondo to see which of the buzziest bags out there were actually useful by filling them with bottles of lotions, creams, sprays, brushes, and powders. Then, we pretended each was a dodgeball and threw them around our NYC-based lab. The makeup bags that emerged victorious, with the fewest spills, breaks, or explosions, were then judged for material quality and compressive ability. And of course, we tested to see the amount of space it took up in a carry-on bag, design, usefulness of the compartments, and overall capacity. This list comprises our highest-ranking makeup bags we’d be happy to take with us for a long weekend or months-long adventure (we wish!).
Best Overall
Béis the cosmetic case.
What We Love: It comes with a mirror. What We Don’t Love: You can’t compartmentalize as much.
Out of all the makeup cases we tested, we found the Béis Cosmetic Case to be the most universally useful. It comes with a removable mirror that’s quite generous in size and stands upright to give us a view of our entire face so we could do our makeup on the go.
In terms of space, there’s a center section for brushes, which is removable, and we were able to get five brushes in comfortably without flattening the bristles. Then in the main compartment, we were able to fit all of our go-to makeup products with ease. There’s even a shallow zippered section attached to the top lid where we slid in our powder compacts and palettes. Even the hardware holding everything together felt luxe and sturdy, not to mention easy to wipe clean. We also loved how the case opened up completely, putting everything on full display and easy to access. That being said, there weren’t many compartments or straps to organize our products. When we tossed the bag around, the items remained protected and safe without spilling or coming loose.
Materials: Faux leather exterior, nylon lining interior | Compartments: None | Colors: 10 | Size: 9.5 x 4 x 7” inches

Best Budget
Narwey travel makeup bag.
What We Love: The quality feels much more high-end than what the price suggests. What We Don’t Love: We wish it was slightly more cushioned.
We love a good budget option when the product feels much more high-end than what it’s priced at—that’s how we felt about this Narwey makeup case. The lightweight option doesn’t lack in space, compartments, or even aesthetic appeal, making it a phenomenal option for everyday use.
Much like the previous Beis option, this bag opens up fully, giving us complete access to all our goods. On the lid-side of the bag, we could squeeze 20 brushes in the eight brush pockets (ranging in size)—there’s even a flap to cover and protect the brush heads. The bag comes with a fully removable pouch, where we kept our face palettes , a color correcting palette, three eyeliners , four lipsticks , a mascara , and a lash curler . Then in the main compartment, we stored our foundations , moisturizers , makeup removers , favorite dry shampoo , and more. Needless to say, nothing needs to be left behind with this bag, and yet it didn’t feel completely bulky—we were able to store this in our backpack and carry-on cases sans-problem.

Best Splurge
Cuyana travel beauty case.
What We Love: You can add a personalized monogram. What We Don’t Love: It’s only available in two colors.
Now onto something for the makeup gurus who don’t play about their beauty collection. The price of this travel case is on the higher side, but after thoroughly testing it we think it’s worth every penny.
Let’s start with the luxurious material, stitch, and zips. This bag is about as sturdy as it gets without having a full-on hard-shell makeup case. The leather is strong and sturdy, while the zippers glide smoothly all the way around and open in a clam-shell style. The lid portion features four loops for brushes and an elastic pocket to collect the ends. The leather divider in the middle helps to protect the brush heads from the items on the other side, where we placed our foundations, bronzers, blushes, and more. There was even a clippable pouch that we could remove and use on its own on a flight. Because of its sleek and long shape, we placed our waterproof mascaras , eyeliners, and brow products in there. We could even sneak in an eyeshadow brush as well. Knowing that it will last us well over a decade further makes this worth the investment. Slab on the fact that we could add a personalized monogram and it’s truly chef’s kiss.
Materials: Leather | Compartments: 4 | Colors: 2 | Size: 6.2 x 10.2 x 3.1 inches
Best Hanging
Béis hanging cosmetic case.
What We Love: There’s a removable pouch, making it easy to take essential items along during day excursions. What We Don’t Love: It’s very bulky and large, making it harder to pack.
This is for the beauty guru who needs to bring their entire beauty routine with them on the go, even if it means sacrificing a sweater or two in their luggage space. The Beis Hanging Cosmetic Case was truly made for the expert—even professional makeup artists will find great usage out of all the space, compartments, and hanging ability.
We first noticed how the outside has a stiffer material, making it absorb any drops and protecting the contents inside. Meanwhile, the interior is quite slick, so we would have no quarrels giving it a good clean should any powder or creams ever get spilled. The bag flaps open into three sections and has a little hook to hang for when we don’t have any counter space to lay it out flat. Thanks to all the zippers and netted pouches, nothing would fall out while being perfectly visible in its vertical position. We fit absolutely everything we could think of here—moisturizers, creams, foundations, makeup palettes, four eyeliners, five lipsticks and glosses, and still had room to spare. The pouch in the middle is also removable, which we found to be very useful when we wanted to head out for the day and bring a few essentials along.
Materials: Nylon, vegan leather | Compartments: 5 | Colors: 2 | Size: 9.75 x 7.25 x 6.5 inches
Best for Bottles
Dagne dover mila toiletry organizer.
What We Love: It comes with removable dividers to keep bottles cushioned and separated. What We Don’t Love: We wish the handle could be opened and closed so that we may loop it on a towel rack and save counter space.
Do you have any delicate perfume bottles , creams, or foundations you want to keep properly cushioned and separated? Then it truly does not get better than (or cuter than) this toiletry organizer from Dagne Dover. The circular and upright bag has a cushioned mesh fabric all throughout the interior, with six adjustable compartments to place individual items in securely.
More than just the six main compartments, we were able to place pencils and brushes (which fit perfectly upright) in the side slits as well. Then on the opening flap, we placed sunscreens , hair ties, lipsticks, and other miscellaneous items in the zippered mesh bag. Of course, removing the dividers altogether created even more space, but we liked how our glass bottles were protected inside the dividers—not even throwing the bag across the room could affect the interior. Because of the flexible cushiony material, it was easy to squish the bag down and save space in our luggage as well.
Materials: Recycled polyester | Compartments: 11 | Colors: 4 | Size: 5.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 inches
Best Organizer
Away the cosmetics bag.
What We Love: There is a discreet hidden black pocket for anything you want to keep private. What We Don’t Love: The makeup brush compartment clips off, but we’re not sure why as it does not conceal an extra compartment or save space this way.
A good makeup case for travel should be able to endure the rough handling of TSA, flight turbulence, and rolling over cobblestone streets. For this reason, the hard yet cushioned shell of the Away Cosmetics Bag is ideal. The neoprene exterior felt luscious and high-end, which is very on par with all of Away's products. Inside, there is a clear zippered main compartment, and underneath it hides a little black pouch, fit for eyeshadow palettes and medications. The clear compartment is spacious enough to hold just about anything, from creams to lash curlers to hydrating lipsticks . And because it’s made of plastic, it’s easy to wipe off any potential spills.
On the lid side of the bag is a detachable brush holder with five pockets. We will say, however, that we’re uncertain why they made the brush holder detachable, as it doesn’t conceal anything underneath or even save a bunch of space. The holder alone is of no use without the case either.
Materials: Nylon, neoprene | Compartments: 3 | Colors: 2 | Size: 8.3 x 6.3 x 3.9 inches
Best With Compartments
Relavel travel makeup case.
What We Love: The internal dividers can be adjusted to your liking. What We Don’t Love: It's too big to fit into a backpack, and will take a lot of space in a suitcase. If you’re a professional makeup artist and have to travel to see your clients, then this is the makeup case to opt for. More than just large, this case has been expertly designed with makeup artists in mind, giving us adjustable compartments made of mesh, smooth, and easy-to-clean material.
We consider ourselves on the higher end of neat and tidy, (Marie Kondo is our saving grace), and we can’t begin to describe how satisfying it is to have our un-shamefully large collection of foundations, eyeshadow palettes, lip kits and more, properly stashed in their own compartments. The brush compartment on the internal divider had scrunch pockets, and the flap that goes over the brushes sufficiently covered all of them for protection. Thankfully, the bag itself is very lightweight, as the weight of all our products is already heavy enough. The bag came with an adjustable strap, which we could wear as a crossbody or even turn into a backpack. That being said, it’s a little too large to comfortably fit into a backpack.
Materials: Nylon | Compartments: 9 | Colors: 20 | Size: 10.3 x 9 x 3.6 inches
Best for Brushes
Relavel small makeup case.
What We Love: We could fit at least 15 brushes in the bag. What We Don’t Love: There is no pouch over the brushes to protect them.
She may have small in the title, but this bag actually fits a ton of product—at least enough for your everyday makeup needs. The most notable feature of this bag however is how many slots there are for brushes. From big to small, there are two walls dedicated to just brushes, easily carrying at least 15 makeup brushes in various sizes.
The interior divider features a row of brush holders on one side, and mesh pockets on the other. Once we flipped that over, we were met with a large (but not very deep) space for all of our creams and cases. It could fit plenty of mascaras and lip glosses for everyday wear, but if you wanted to go full glam you may feel it’s not spacious enough. For the average consumer, however, we believe the soft bag is perfectly sufficient for a casual week away.
Materials: Nylon | Compartments: 5 | Colors: 21 | Size: 8.9 x 5.1 x 5.1 inches
Best Water-Repellent
Lululemon go getter pouch.
What We Love: It fits a lot more than it looks. What We Don’t Love: There aren’t any compartments to organize specific items into.
Not only is this makeup pouch small, but soft-shelled as well, making it easy to compress for travel. It’s made of the same materials as Lululemon’s infamous belt bag , which is water-repellent and durable.
The pouch consists of one main compartment, with a mesh interior pocket and an exterior zipped pocket. It didn’t seem like much at first, but once we started placing our foundations, creams, powders, and beyond in it, we realized just how much it could hold, which is a lot (two liters of stuff, to be exact). Thanks to the nylon material, it's easy to clean should anything ever spill—and spill it might, as there isn’t really a hardcover protecting any of the contents. There aren’t a plethora of compartments, and we did get a little lost trying to find specific items in what feels like a Mary Poppins bag, but we’re happy with how discreetly it can fit a bunch of items in a small size.
Materials: Recycled polyester, nylon | Compartments: 3 | Colors: 3 | Size: 8.7 x 3.3 x 6.3 inches
MZ Wallace Mica Cosmetic Case
What We Love: The cushiony exterior kept everything safe and protected. What We Don’t Love: We wish there were one or two more compartments.
We selected this option as our best pouch pick not because of how much this bag can hold (although that is a big point), but because of its cushiony exterior. Instead of a hard shell, this quilted bag felt like a protective pillow around our valuables, while being flexible enough to press down in our suitcases.
The top zips open almost fully, making it easy to access all of our makeup. There are only two compartments—the main interior and a not so little side zip. We were flabbergasted at just how much could fit into this little black hole: three micellar waters , two travel-size shampoo bottles, a large liquid concealer, a bronzer , five lipsticks, and about seven brushes nestled next to each other, and the bag still didn’t feel like it was filled up. The bag was almost like a flexible fleece jacket to our goodies, easily accommodating our large collection of beauty products without taking too much luggage space.
Materials: Leather, REC oxford | Compartments: 2 | Colors: 1 | Size: 9.49 x 4.02 x 5.98 inches
Best Train Set
Leatherology train case.
What We Love: There are organizational compartments on the interior side that don’t take up any space. What We Don’t Love: It’s very tall, so it may sit awkwardly in a suitcase.
A classic train case is a stylish way to hold all your beauty products on the go. We tested several, but found this full grain leather option the most practical. While at a first glance it looks like any other spacious rectangular box, a closer look revealed that each of the walls had a different organizational perk. Two sides had a pocket sleeve with an elastic strap, one side had a slip pocket, and the last had a zippered pocket. There was even a mesh zippered pocket on the lid, where we kept eyeshadow palettes and mascaras. We loved how these compartments didn’t take up any additional space (like a divider would), while still giving us the opportunity to organize a little.
The box is quite deep, so even our travel-size shampoos could stand upright. Unless we packed everything snugly side by side, these items would fall to their sides and look a little messy after travel. Should anything spill, however, the water-resistant lining made it very easy to clean.
Materials: Leather, nylon | Compartments: 3 | Colors: 14 | Size: 7.5 x 5 x 5.2 inches
Boacay Hanging Travel Toiletry Bag
What We Love: The pockets are all clear, giving us good visibility into the interior. What We Don’t Love: The cover is not that protective or sturdy.
It’s not enough for a bag to have great organizational capabilities, it needs to provide great visibility into our collection of products as well, and this bag does just that. It comes with a little rotating hook, which we used to hang the bag onto a towel rack.
Once fully folded open, it reveals four bagged compartments, all made of clear plastic. The two center pockets are larger than the outer ones, so we stored our hair spray, body lotions , and all other cream products in there. In the smaller pouches we hid our brushes, eye creams , and any other miscellaneous items in. Although it looked stuffed to the brim, once closed it did not bulk up any more than it did while empty. It still folded easily and zippered closed without putting up a fight. Celebrity makeup artist Katie Nova stresses how convenient it is to keep all her skin care and beauty products separate, but in the same container, “eliminating the need for a separate bag and simplifying my travel routine further.” With a water-repellent finish and light padding, it’s perfectly usable for everyday use.
Materials: Brushed, water-repellant | Compartments: 5 | Colors: 8 | Size: 11.4 x 3.8 x 7.5 inches
Best Makeup Pouch for Purse
Cuyana leather travel case set.
What We Love: It comes with two bags in one set. What We Don’t Love: The leather exterior and interior are difficult to clean.
If you want to have your beauty items close to you while on the go, then a pouch small enough to fit in your purse is the way to go. This Cuyana set, which yes, comes with two different sized pouches, was quick to steal our hearts with its beautiful pebbled leather design. The bag opened up so wide, it was easy to pack all our essentials in and get quick access to them. The larger pouch has one slit pocket on the side, although we have to admit, it’s more for the aesthetics than any functional purpose.
The second pouch is merely a smaller version of the large one, without the slit interior pocket. At first, we wondered why we would need two of the same bag, but then came to realize how useful it is to keep one in our check-in luggage and the other in our backpacks and close to us on the plane. Together, we could easily bring our entire makeup routine with us wherever we go. Because it’s made of full leather on the exterior and interior, it was difficult to clean the bag. One of our eyeshadow palettes popped open and stained the bag slightly. Luckily, Cuyana gives detailed instructions on how to care for the pouch.
Materials: Leather | Compartments: 2 | Colors: 16 | Size: Large pouch: 7 x 12 x 3.5 inches, small pouch: 5 x 8 x 2.5 inches
- Size: Before committing to a makeup case, take a look at your beauty products and consider how much you actually use on a daily basis. Next, consider the location you’re hoping to transport them to, and ask yourself what you need there. The answer to these questions will determine how large your makeup case should be. We tested a range of makeup bags, and found some big enough to suit a professional makeup artist, in need of carrying a bunch of products in various shades, and simple pouches fit to hold a good chunk of essentials for a weekend getaway. You also want to consider how you will be transporting your makeup case. Some bags are too large to fit in a backpack and take a ton of space in a carry-on, but will be great in a larger suitcase.
- Material: Makeup isn’t cheap, so you probably want the case to properly cushion and protect your collection. That being said, harder shells or even cushioned bags take up a lot of space in your luggage, so finding something that compromises between protective yet lightweight can be difficult. Factor in the ability to wash the bag, and it can become downright mathematical. Codrington finds bags that have both a semi-hard lid or bottom with cushioned sides the most useful, saying the bag she always uses “has some soft, breathable areas and a hard shell in the back to protect the components inside.” Other options feature quality leather all throughout the pouch, which certainly helps to protect the interior but is also more difficult to clean. If you are worried about spillage, something with a clear plastic case would be much more efficient. Professional makeup artist J. Guerra remarks that “bags made of nylon or other materials that are easy to wipe down in case of makeup spills while traveling are essential.”
- Compartments: Maybe you don’t care too much for compartments and just need a spacious pouch to throw all your things in, in which case, skip this section. For everyone else who gets a kick out of neatly separating your liquids from your powders, consider all the organizational capabilities of your future makeup case. Guerra says that a “space for brushes, separate compartments for liquids (to comply with airport regulations), and dividers to stay organized prevent delicate powders or eyeshadow palettes from breaking apart.” So not only do compartments make packing neater, but safer for your goods as well. “Some bags even have removable pouches or adjustable dividers for added safeguarding and flexibility, those are my favorite,” says Guerra.
What is the best way to pack makeup for travel?
On top of the above mentioned size, material, and compartments, you have to make sure you’re following TSA guidelines—like not including liquids that are more than 3.4 ounces and storing everything inside a clear container, if it’s coming with you in your carry-on luggage. Guerra, who frequently travels to meet his beauty clients, offers a few tips for traveling with makeup: “When flying, I’ll often wrap my powder palettes and compacts in bubble wrap or a small towel to prevent them from breaking en route.” If you’re absolutely worried about anything spilling, Guerra suggests “storing creams and liquids into Ziploc bags before placing them in your makeup case.”
What is the best professional makeup case?
Professional makeup artists are going to need a lot more space to accommodate their wide range of products and shades. They also require easy access to their products, so bags must open wide or offer a clear case. “I typically go for bags that have a wide opening and transparent compartments. This allows me to easily see and quickly access items for red carpet touch-ups or makeup adjustments on-set,” says Guerra.

There are many travel makeup bags designed to transport your beloved cosmetics for glam on the go. These products are made to keep your products intact and organized on your journey.
Beyond choosing a high-quality case, celebrity makeup artist Neil Scibelli suggests swapping out some of your usual products with multi-use alternatives. “Think of things like tinted moisturizers with sunscreen, lip, eye, and cheek products, and perhaps a palette that offers multiple colors that you can use across your trip,” says Scibelli. Another travel tip from Scibelli is to replace powder items with creams. “Items like powder bronzers and blushes can easily crack during travel, so if you can switch to cream bronzers and cream blush — that can be super helpful."
We tested 26 of the most popular travel makeup bags based on durability, design, portability, capacity, and price to see which held up the best. After the eyeshadow dust settled and liquid foundation explosions were cleaned up, we found our best overall picks.
Read on for the best travel makeup bags that PEOPLE tested and expert advice on how to pack your makeup for your next getaway.
Best Overall
Relavel travel makeup case.
- Ease of Use 5 /5
- Quality 5 /5
- Capacity 5 /5
- Design 5 /5
- Portability 5 /5
External padding keeps makeup from breaking
Zipper top opens fully so all products are visible
Easy to clean
Bulky shape is harder to pack
Backpack straps not super stable
This Train Case from Relavel blew us away during testing. We love how easy it is to store, organize, and access the makeup and brushes. The zipper top opens fully so you can see everything at a glance. We really appreciate the individual brush holders and easy-to-clean plastic protective cover, too.
This travel makeup bag is an organizational dream. The individual dividers can be moved around and customized to best fit and secure all your products. During testing, this case fits an impressive seven palettes, a whole makeup brush collection , two foundation bottles, five toiletry bottles, over 15 lipsticks, an eyelash curler, hair spray, and a travel-sized moisturizer bottle. The exterior and interior fabrics on this case feel high quality and durable, and the waterproof surfaces are easy to clean.
The internal organization will keep your products securely in place, while the exterior padding will provide a safety cushion. In our drop and shake tests, none of the makeup products broke or spilled. The only possible drawback for us is that the bulkier, square shape would fit best in your checked luggage instead of a backpack.
How It's Held Up
After five months of use, this Relavel case has become our tester’s everyday makeup bag. She appreciates how it neatly stores her most-used makeup tools in pockets and a double-layer compartment. Even when she fills the case, it’s still easy to zip. She has packed the Relavel in a duffel bag, carry-on suitcase, and backpack, and it has adequately protected all her products during travel. After five months, the exterior still looks great, and the zippers operate smoothly.

Best Overall, Runner-Up
Béis the cosmetic case.
Faux leather exterior still looks new after multiple drop tests
Main storage compartment keeps products protected
Super easy to clean
Not much organization or separation of the main compartment
Takes up a lot of backpack space
Shay Mitchell's brand, Béis, is known for its beloved Weekender Bags — and its cosmetic case was also a front-runner in our tests, scoring high marks across the board. This case is super easy to open, close, and pack. We love the wide-open central compartment that makes tossing in all your hair and makeup essentials an absolute breeze.
We really like the removable compartment for storing brushes and the additional zip pocket for added storage. The bottom of the case has two smaller sleeve pockets but doesn’t offer any other organization. While it doesn’t have many compartments, this case can really pack in the products. The luxurious feel of the faux leather elevates this travel makeup bag. We also love that it is available in nine different colors to match your style and mood.
Overall, it feels sturdy and durable and is easy to clean. During our drop and shake tests, nothing broke or spilled, which really impressed us, considering the main cavity didn’t have any additional compartments to keep products in place. This Béis makeup case offers ample storage, so its bigger size fits best in suitcases or luggage.
This Béis case has come in handy during the three trips our tester has taken in the past five months. She previously traveled with two cases, one for skincare and another for makeup, but this spacious bag holds it all. Through all her travels, it has remained clean and sturdy, with no noticeable imperfections.
Size: 9.5 x 4 x 7 inches | Weight: 1.38 lbs. | Material: PU leather, PVC, lining: poly with water-resistant finish | Closure: Double U-zip
Best Budget
Narwey travel makeup bag.
- Design 2 /5
Impressive capacity but still easy to pack in a backpack or carry-on
Full zipper closure gives easy access to contents
Kept makeup secure during testing
No separate organization compartments or padding
For a super inexpensive price, this Narwey Travel Makeup Bag will get your makeup to and from your destination safely and with ease. This bag has a full zipper closure that is easy to open and provides full access to everything. The exterior fabric is water-resistant and easy to clean.
The main compartment of this travel makeup bag is 3.5 inches deep, which is generous compared to some other bags we tested. Separate brush pouches with a PVC protective cover and an additional smaller zipper pouch offer some organization. There isn’t any designated organization to the main compartment, but we still found it holds quite a bit. We were able to fit two full sets of face and eye brushes (19 brushes in total), two face palettes, a color-correcting palette, three eyeliners, four lipsticks, a mascara, and a lash curler . The capacity for the case is phenomenal, while still being compact enough to put into a day pack.
Size: 9 x 6.7 x 3.5 inches | Weight: 7.8 oz. | Material: Not listed | Closure: Full double zip
Best Organization Features
Dagne dover mila toiletry organizer.
- Capacity 4 /5
Dividers keep products organized and secure
Compartment dividers are removable for added space
Upright design is easy to pack and fit into smaller luggage and backpacks
Narrow, upright design couldn’t accommodate as many products
Dagne Dover bags are loved for being high-quality, aesthetically pleasing, and eco-conscious. Their Mila Toiletry Organizer continues in that legacy and delivered an impressive organization throughout our testing process. Available in six colors, we love the upright design that proves much more spacious than it appears. The full zipper top opening makes packing, viewing, and accessing the products super easy.
The separate compartments make organizing simple and keep the products securely in place. Even better, the compartment dividers are removable for easy cleaning and maximum storage. The padded exterior not only gives a hint of that trendy athleisure aesthetic but also offers added protection in transit.
During testing, we fit four makeup brushes, two makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, three lipsticks, four small toiletry bottles, and one hairspray in this bag. This is impressive, considering the size. We did note that the bag's narrower design didn’t hold quite as much as other larger bags we tested. (The brand does offer a larger size ).
During five months of use, our tester became more and more impressed with the Mila bag. While the bag isn’t very wide, its height and the removable and adjustable slots make organization a breeze. She appreciated the high-quality material and capacity of the bag, which fit more than expected. The bag is easy to pack and keeps all her products secure and protected during travel.
Size: 5.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 inches | Weight: 6 oz. | Material: Repreve recycled polyester exterior and interior | Closure: Zip
Best Hanging
Béis hanging cosmetic case.
- Portability 4.5 /5
Fit more products than our standard packing list
Sturdy structure and shape kept all makeup secure during the shake and drop tests
Includes a removable clear zipper tote that's ideal for smaller toiletries
Bulky shape takes up a lot of room and isn't as malleable as others we tested
In vertical position, clear zipper pouch in main compartment doesn’t stay in place
It's not fun to do your hair and makeup in a tiny bathroom with no counter space for your stuff. The Béis Hanging Cosmetic case is our top pick to solve this common travel challenge. We love how easy this case is to open and pack. It unfolds and lays fully flat, which makes packing a cinch.
We were so impressed with how much we could fit in this bag. We packed four makeup brushes, six makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, five lipsticks, seven toiletry bottles, one hairspray, and four eyeliners.
The construction of this case feels sturdy and durable. The nylon fabric feels super easy to keep clean. During our shake and drop tests, all of the products remained intact and secure. This hanging case is on the bulkier side and would take up a lot of room in a carry-on backpack or tote. It’s probably best for larger suitcases. We appreciate the middle compartment came with a clear zipper tote you can remove and use as a TSA-friendly toiletry case for a smaller carry-on or underseat luggage . The only drawback is the clear zipper pouch can fall out when the back is stored vertically, so it’s best to store it elsewhere when hanging.
This hanging case has been ideal for longer trips our tester has taken because it holds a ton of products. She loves that it hangs on the back of a door, so it’s easy to access everything at once. The bag is very durable and easy to wipe clean, and she hasn’t noticed any damage during the past five months of use. Her favorite thing is the bag’s capacity and numerous organization pockets. Because it is bulky, she doesn’t take the entire case on short vacations, but she loves that it includes a removable makeup pouch that she can bring on weekend trips.
Size: 9.75 x 7.25 x 6.5 inches | Weight: 1.14 lbs. | Material: Nylon twill, vegan buffalo leather, polyester lining, pouch-clear TPU | Closure: Double U-zip
Best Hanging, Less Expensive
Boacay hanging travel toiletry bag.
- Ease of Use 4.5 /5
- Quality 4 /5
- Capacity 3.5 /5
- Portability 4 /5
Products visible in plastic compartment pockets
Products stayed intact during shake and drop tests
Exterior fabric is not as luxurious as others
Bulkier silhouette is better for large checked suitcases
This hanging toiletry bag from Boacay offers the convenience of vertical storage for an affordable price. The fold-out design makes packing and viewing the products very easy. This bag includes four separate zipper compartments that stay securely closed when hanging.
We packed a lot into this hanging case. We were able to fit four makeup brushes, three makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, two lipsticks, four toiletry bottles, and two hairspray cans. We tested the medium size, however, this product also comes in a larger size for those who need even more space.
The structure of this bag provided protection throughout our multiple shake and drop tests. Some of the products moved around a bit, but the fold-up design helped keep most things in place. We also appreciate the elastic loops in the middle two compartments that can help secure items.
Our tester has been using this hanging travel bag every day for the past five months. This convenient bag has become her regular makeup case. The hanging bag is durable and hasn’t sustained rips or tears. A small amount of powder that spilled in one of the pockets was easy to clean. She also loves the elastic straps inside two of the pockets that keep tubes and bottles separated and upright. Her one issue with the bag is that the plastic pockets bend quite a bit when full, which sometimes allows items to fall out.
Size: 11.42 x 3.78 x 7.48 inches | Weight: 12.3 oz. | Material: Exterior fabric not listed, PVC inner pockets | Closure: Full zip
Best Compact
Lululemon go getter pouch.
- Design 4 /5
Fits easily in backpack and smaller carry-on
Pliable exterior is easier to pack and squeeze into a fuller backpack or suitcase
Water-repellent and easy to wipe clean
Needed to rummage at bottom to find items
Exterior is thin and less protective than others we tested
If you’re looking for a sleek and portable travel makeup case that you can throw in any bag, the Lululemon Go Getter Pouch is the one for you. Don’t let the compact silhouette fool you, we were able to fit quite a few beauty products into this case. In the small front compartment, we fit four small/medium-sized brushes with room for more. We packed two palettes in the mesh pouch and five brushes, one more palette, two lipsticks, one foundation bottle, and three micellar travel bottles in the main pouch.
The outer water-repellent material made from recycled polyester looks stylish and, better yet, is also easy to clean. It feels thinner than other bags we tested — no extra padding here. After shaking and throwing the bag a few times during testing, a few caps came off some products, but thankfully, there were no spills or breaks. The tops of some lipsticks were a tad smushed. The design of this pouch is simple and straightforward without much internal organization. While the bag was able to fit many products, the lack of organized compartments made it difficult at times to find a specific product needed.
The compact size of this big is a major highlight as it easily fits in a backpack, weekender bag , carry-on luggage, and a checked bag. We especially like the flexible fabric exterior, which makes squeezing it into an already full bag much easier. The price point is affordable for a well-known brand and makes it a great choice for those prioritizing portability in a travel makeup bag.
Since she started using this pouch five months ago, our tester has taken the bag on a week-long trip. Because of its small size, she found it was a tight squeeze to fit her makeup and other items like an eyelash curler and brushes. While the bag is durable and didn’t rip during use, she found that her foundation left a stain on the fabric. Her least favorite thing about the bag is the lack of organizational features, which left her digging around or dumping everything out to find what she needed.

Best Leather
Leatherology train case.
Square shape and deep main compartment hold a lot
Impressive internal organization
Water-resistant lining is easy to clean
Available in 12 colors and can be personalized
Not as sturdy feeling when empty
More expensive than others
Looking for luxury and durability? Leatherology’s classic, square-shaped train case will transport your makeup safely and in style. This bag’s full-grain leather exterior feels and looks like a dream. We appreciate the water-resistant lining that will be easy to keep clean. The full-zip-around closure allow for easy packing, access, and viewing of all the products. The main compartment is deep enough to pack some bottles standing up. We packed four makeup brushes, three makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, three lipsticks, seven small toiletry bottles, and one hairspray.
Despite initially feeling less sturdy when empty, this bag feels very secure once packed with products. The thin padding between the exterior and interior layers also adds additional protection. It fared well in all our shake and drop tests. No makeup or toiletries were broken or spilled, and the leather still looked great. The price is higher than some of the other bags we tested, but the genuine leather exterior, easy-to-clean interior, and loads of pockets make it well worth the cost.
This small train case from Leatherology has been our tester’s go-to bag for weekend and week-long trips. It fits everything she needs and then some, including larger eye shadow palettes. The case is super durable, and the interior still looks practically new. The outside has a foundation stain, but since it’s made of leather, our tester expects to get it out with a little elbow grease. She loves the size for longer trips but feels like it takes up too much room in her weekender bag to make it feasible for short trips.
Size: 7.5 x 5 x 5.2 inches | Weight: Not listed | Material: Full grain leather exterior, water-resistant synthetic interior | Closure: Zip-around

Best Makeup Case Set
Cuyana leather travel case set.
Wide opening easy to pack and access
Genuine leather is easy to clean
Sleek and elegant
Not as much padding as other bags we tested
This Travel Case Set from Cuyana is ideal for those wanting additional storage and the option of different sizes. The materials on these sleek, elegant leather cases feel durable and high quality. We learned the width of the opening can be a bit deceiving. We had to remove some products we initially packed in order to fully close the bag. In the larger bag alone we were still able to pack four makeup brushes, two makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, one lipstick, four toiletry bottles, and one hairspray and definitely had room for several more products. The second smaller case would be great for brushes, jewelry, or essential toiletries for your carry-on.
At first, the soft leather exterior of these cases didn't feel as sturdy as the other ones we tested, but they still kept the products secure in our tests. A little bit of eyeshadow was the only makeup to spill during multiple drops and shake tests, but it was easily cleaned up. Getting two genuine leather travel makeup cases for this price is a great deal. We also like the option to choose which size feels most appropriate for different types of travel.
As a self-proclaimed overpacker, our tester was not able to store everything she needed in this set for a longer trip. For short, local trips, she found the small pouch to be ideal for carrying all of her essentials in a backpack. She appreciated the high-quality, durable material and how the two cases fit into one another for easy storage. After five months of use, the bags showed no signs of wear, and the few smudges that appeared were easy to wipe away.
Size: 7 x 12 x 3.5 inches (large), 5 x 8 x 2.5 inches (small) | Weight: 1 lb. | Material: 100% sustainable, Argentinian leather | Closure: Zip
Best Investment
Cuyana travel beauty case.
- Quality 4.5 /5
Removable leather pouch provides extra storage and protects fragile items
Opens fully and is easy to pack and access
Pockets and elastic loops for organization
Minor scuffs on exterior after drop tests
The Cuyana Travel Beauty Case is the epitome of fashion and function together in one beautiful bag. The Italian leather exterior elevates the classic design of this travel makeup bag. The rectangular case opens up fully (like a clamshell), and we found it was super easy to pack.
The internal organization is both super functional and beautiful, thanks to the matching leather interior. We appreciate the designated elastic loops for makeup brushes along with the leather flap to secure the brushes in place. The bonus removable leather zipper pouch adds another level of organization. An additional pocket at the bottom of the main compartment secures even more products. We were able to fit eight makeup brushes, two makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, four lipsticks, four toiletry bottles, and one hairspray.
The leather exterior and interior protected our makeup well during our shake and drop tests. Only a few items shook loose, but nothing broke or spilled. We noticed a few minor scuffs after dropping and throwing the bag a few times, but they were easily wiped away with our fingers. While the high price is certainly an investment, this travel case will be a beautiful piece to add to your travel collection for years to come.
During the past five months, our tester has used this Cuyana case for every trip she has taken. She was able to fit a ton inside and found the smaller pouch to be ideal for bringing a couple of things along for touch-ups. She appreciates all the organizational touches, from brush straps to a large compartment with a sleeve, and how protective the case is. The case has kept her eye palettes damage-free on trips around the world. She generally checks the large case and keeps the small pouch with her. The exterior of the bag is durable, easy to wipe clean, and looks as good as new.
Size: 6.2 x 10.2 x 3.1 inches | Weight: 1.6 lbs. | Material: Italian pebbled leather | Closure: Metal zip, internal metal button clasps
Other Travel Makeup Bags We Tried
- Away The Cosmetics Bag : We love the sleek and low-profile design of this cosmetics bag, and the soft-molded cube shape fits nicely into a backpack and varied sizes of suitcases. While we were able to pack a substantial amount of makeup in this case, the caps came off several products during our shake and drop tests, leading us to fear some inevitable spills during travel. We also think the price tag is a bit steep compared to similar bags we tested.
- Calpak Terra Hanging Toiletry Bag : We love the durability of this bag’s material, not to mention its cute aesthetic. The compact size is super portable, and its ability to hang vertically makes it an all-around space-saver. While this hanging toiletry bag held ample products, several makeup items fell out during our shake and drop tests, which forebodes potential broken and spilled makeup. Plus, it is more expensive than similar and more secure bags we tested.
- Mark & Graham Concourse Cosmetics Case : We love the option to remove the smaller zipper pouch and use it on its own. While the larger case is easy to open and pack, we wish there were a few more organizational features to separate and secure items. Unfortunately, after a few shake and drop tests, several caps came off some bottles, and one compact even broke.
What to Know About Travel Makeup Bags
Functionality .
Just like when looking for a travel backpack or a carryon, when shopping for a travel makeup bag, functionality is your friend. You want a bag that can easily store, organize, and protect your beauty products while traveling. Consider how much makeup and toiletries you usually travel with and what type of products. If you’ve got lots of brushes and smaller size items, you’ll want a bag with plenty of internal organizational options like the Relavel Travel Makeup Train Case , which has customizable dividers. Choose a bag that’ll easily fit everything, but be wary of a bag that’s too big because extra space will let your products get jostled around in transit.
Look for any special features in a travel makeup bag that are a good fit for your usual travel experience. Perhaps a hanging bag, such as the Béis The Hanging Cosmetic Case , will work best for small hotel bathrooms or tiny guest areas. Or maybe a removable pouch, like the Lululemon Go Getter Pouch , is something you’d prefer to keep essentials within reach in your carry-on. Consider other design elements like material and hardware finishes that can elevate your travel makeup bag from another utilitarian piece of luggage to a chic design piece.
Price Range
We tested travel makeup bags that range in price from around $12 to almost $300. You can find a quality makeup case at any price, including the budget-friendly Narwey Travel Makeup Bag , depending on the materials and features that are most important to you.
In our PEOPLE Tested Lab, 26 buzz-worthy makeup cases were tried, inspected, and evaluated for ease of use, quality, capacity, design, and portability. Each bag was packed with the same standard packing list, and additional products were added if possible.
- Packing List: Our standard packing list included the following: 4 makeup brushes, 2 makeup palettes, 1 bottle of foundation, 1 eyelash curler, 1 mascara, 1 lipstick, 2 toiletry bottles (pre-filled with micellar water and sunscreen), 2 toiletry bottles (pre-filled with lotion), and 1 hairspray bottle.
- Drop and Shake Tests: After each bag was fully packed, our testers vigorously shook and dropped each case multiple times. The condition of the makeup afterward was observed and documented.
- Portability: To test portability, each makeup case was then packed into three different-sized bags: a backpack, a carry-on suitcase, and checked luggage.
- Scoring: Combining considerations for the quality of materials and special organizational features, each case was given an overall score on a scale from one to five. The makeup cases with the highest average scores were selected for this article as our top picks.
Frequently Asked Questions
“For starters, I like to minimize the general bulk of my products so that I'm not overpacking,” shares Scibelli. “And, of course, keeping the sizes to 3.4 ounces and under, if I'm not checking a bag.” He also recommends using a padded cosmetics case that offers an additional layer of protection.
Pro travel tip: “Use your other items in your suitcase as armor for your makeup bag, and position it in the center or with softer items around it for protection," he says.
“A typical toiletry bag is pretty simple, consisting of a one-pocket zip pouch,” explains Scibelli. “Travel makeup cases have become so much more intricate now with multiple pockets and travel features like having detachable pockets, being water resistant, and added padding for safety.” Makeup cases will often have specific features to hold beauty products and makeup brushes and easy-to-clean fabric in case of spills.

How to Pack a Makeup Travel Kit
Only pack what you think you really will need and use. Use our suggestion to downsize your beauty products into smaller containers.
When it comes time to pack your makeup, you’ll want to consider a makeup bag to keep it separate and neat in your luggage. Consider a small cosmetic bag that can fit easily into your toiletry bag.
We recommend a toiletry bag that will hold all of your necessities and keep you organized. Some travel toiletry bags can hang in your accommodation, for extra convenience.
Get our free toiletries packing list here!
You also can wrap your makeup bag in clothing and add to your packing cube in your suitcase for further protection. Even if you travel carry-on only, your bag may be put into an overhead bin, under a seat, or hauled up flights of stairs. You don’t want to break your products.
However, if something does happen to your makeup or beauty supplies, if you forget something, or if you need something, you can buy products at your destination.

Hi, my favorite makeup for travel or everyday. Is Christina cosmetics color pallette number one. It is a powder base makeup pallete that can be applied in under a minute with 4 shades that can be used individually for blush or eyeshadow. Or applied together as a total face, natural looking finish. Having oily skin like mine, these compacts are perfect.
Thank you for sharing your recommendation wit us!
A fantastic brand where you can truly creat a pallet of what you exactly need is by sustainable brand Elate Beauty in Canada. Definitely worth checking out.
Thanks for sharing your recommendation with us Melanie!
I love the Lancome one.
Hi Meeh, thank you for sharing! Happy travels! ?
What is the palette featured in the main picture for this blog post, the one with ten (?) colors including blue, lavender, grey, etc.? I use an Eagle Creek Specter quarter-cube for makeup. I fill it with stick foundation, travel-size powder, 2 blushes, 2 eye palettes, and brushes corralled in a snack-size ziplock. After flying I transfer mascara, concealer, and primer into the cube.
Hi Dianne, I am afraid that the image at the top of the article is a stock image so I am not sure of the brand. Here are some makeup palettes which are similar to the one in the image: https://amzn.to/2Ug8MyS and https://amzn.to/2UvG5x9 . Sorry I could not have been of more help. 🙁
I have an Estee Lauder one I bought from Schiphol airport. comes with kohl eyeliner, mascara, 4 eyeshadows (a nude palette with shimmer shades as well as matte shades), lipsticks (in 4 colours you’d actually wear ranging from peach to red), face powder (with a little plastic hinged lid) and you can take the palettes out of the case – and a mirror. I use it for my regular makeup routine, super easy!
I LOVE The palettes you find in airports- AWESOME recommendation!
My favourite is from Jane Iredale make up and is a little starter kit. You can get it in light, ledium or dark and it includes: PurePressed Base, PurePressed Blush, 3 shades of PurePressed Eye Shadow, Circle\Delete Concealer, PureMoist Lipstick, PureGloss Lip Gloss, Blush Brush and Dual Ended Eye Brush. Everything you need except mascara and eyeliner all in one! And good for your skin too.
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing 🙂

HAIR FORCE ONE
Hydration heroes, body builders, meet the editors, danielle james, elle.com beauty director.
“I’m Trinidadian and grew up in Florida, so I’m used to warm weather and enjoy spending time in the sand, sea, and sun. Because of this, I’ve perfected my selection of waterproof, transfer-proof, and sweatproof products. Whether it’s a skin tint for a Paris filter-like finish or sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast, I like products that perform while making me look effortlessly put-together. As I gear up for fun in the sun, these picks have become staples in my carry-on. Keep reading; I’m sure you’ll find your travel companion below.”
Nerisha Penrose, ELLE.com beauty commerce editor
“Summer is the season I come alive. I’m miserable in the winter and am typically tucked away, correcting, repairing, and nourishing my skin, so it can shed any dead layers ahead of the warm months. The moment the temperature soars to the 80s or 90s, I’m only focused on wearing less and going out more, which means my legs need to be polished and hair-free, my body needs to be glowing and protected by SPF, and my makeup needs to be sweatproof. If there’s one thing I know how to do best, it’s fake a vacation look with all the bronzing and radiant formulas I keep in my arsenal—and now you can, too.”
Carol Lee, ELLE.com associate beauty e-commerce writer
“As a summer baby, I’ve truly claimed the season as my own. I thrive on sunny days, whether I’m relaxing on a faraway beach or enjoying a picnic with friends in a local park. But no matter what, sun protection is top of mind; my mainstays include big hats, beach umbrellas, and more SPF-filled tinted moisturizers, lotions, and sprays than one might deem necessary. There’s also nothing like a fresh scent to enhance my warm-weather euphoria. When I smell as good as I feel, I’m ready to take on the world.”
Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp & Edge Cleansing Oil
“Baby hairs are not the easiest to master, and excessive manipulation of the edges can cause thinning or breakage. The same way we use a cleansing oil to thoroughly break down all our face products from the day, this one was created specifically to do the same for edges. Following the success of the viral Rosemary Mint Strengthening Oil , this cleansing oil removes old, dried-up edge control, courtesy of rosemary, mint, biotin, and witch hazel, to keep hair refreshed until wash day.” —NP
Oribe Gold Lust Dry Heat Protection Spray
“My poor hair has suffered through years of heat styling without protection. It’s so much happier now that I spray it down with this heat protectant before straightening it. I can barely tell that I’ve applied anything, but the spray does soften my strands and prevent frizz—and, of course, supplies protection against up to 450°F. The scent is something to behold, too; I’ve gotten multiple compliments on how my hair smells with this product in it.” —CL
Dae Fairy Duster Volumizing Dry Shampoo Powder
“Dae makes you feel good about what you’re putting into your hair. Whereas some dry shampoos typically come in aerosol spray form, this one is a talc-free powder that sops up oil on the strands and blends into the hair seamlessly, regardless of your hair color, with no residue left behind.” —NP
Color Wow Money Mist Leave-In Conditioner
“Spending hours in the sun and swimming in the salty sea can’t be beat. However, you’ll find that your tresses are often dehydrated and frizzy after your adventures. Enter: The Color Wow Money Mist Leave-In Conditioner. Because it’s so lightweight, it won’t weigh down fine strands like mine; instead, it provides a burst of moisture and protects against heat and UV rays. I even find that the spray helps my natural waves retain their texture and resist frizzing up, and detangling is a breeze when I spritz it on right after a shower.” —CL
Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangler Plant Brush
“Let me spill the beans: Tangle Teezer’s latest launch is composed of 85 percent castor beans in an effort to cut down on unsustainable materials. The brush is still just as gentle and deft as the brand’s other offerings, and it has two layers of teeth: a longer one to undo wet tangles and another to smooth the strands. I dread brushing my hair wet, because I can hear the tears as they happen, but I’m never afraid with this one.” —CL
Sol de Janeiro Rio Radiance SPF 50 Body Oil
“Is it your natural Brazilian tan, or did you get some help from Sol de Janeiro’s Rio Radiance Oil? No one will ever know. This body oil contains SPF 50 and gives your skin the gift of glow. It’s going to be my travel companion all summer long.” —DJ
Vacation Orange Gelée SPF 30
“Fans of the original Orange Gelée rejoiced earlier this year when Vacation brought back the classic orange-tinted SPF. Due to its gel-to-oil formula, rich with shea butter and coconut oil, the sunscreen leaves behind a sun-kissed glow without any stickiness or residue. The formula doesn’t smell like sunscreen, either; its scent is a blend of sophisticated notes of bergamot, patchouli, and sandalwood.” —CL
Glossier Invisible Shield
“This chemical sunscreen won’t leave your skin dull, gray, or greasy. I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it to my face and didn’t need to follow up with a primer. This lightweight formula plays so well with my makeup and doesn’t make me break out.” —DJ
Seaweed Bath Co. Hydrating Clear Mineral Lip Shine SPF 20
“If you’re anything like me, you’ll apply sunscreen everywhere before stepping onto the beach and often neglect your lips. Now that I have Seaweed Bath’s lip SPF on hand, I have no excuse; the zinc oxide-powered lip balm feels so moisturizing and comfortable on the lips that it’s never a chore to reapply.” —CL
Live Tinted Hueguard
“Finding a mineral sunscreen that says it works for all and actually does is a tedious process—but that all ends with Live Tinted’s Hueguard. With a slight tint and hydrating ingredients, Hueguard works in three parts: it primes, protects, and moisturizes.” —NP
Routine Queen
Element Eight O2 Growth Factor Eight Active Cream
“This cream is the result of over a decade of research and development, bringing science to your skin. The formula includes bio-placenta growth factors and lab-grown peptides that mimic human growth factors to rebuild collagen and reverse visible signs of aging. It has a yellow tint, but rest assured, it hasn’t gone bad. It gets its hue from the nutrient-rich blend, which includes sea buckthorn oil, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and a peptide complex. I highly recommend incorporating the O2 Niacinamide Eight Active Serum and O2 Caffeine Eight Active Eye Cream alongside this product for a simple but effective skin care routine. It’s been a game changer for my skin.” —DJ
La Mer Deep Purifying Mask
“La Mer’s Purifying Mask serves one purpose: ridding your skin of the deep-seated dirt and debris that could wreak havoc come morning. Formulated with La Mer’s signature Miracle Broth —a mélange of vitamins, sea kelp, minerals, and more—and a clarifying ferment made of antioxidants and enzymes, your skin will appear clearer and pores more refined.” —NP
Rhode Pineapple Refresh
“We’re told to eat our vegetables, but don’t forget about the powers of fruits as well. In this formula, pineapple stars as the potent enzyme working to slough away dead skin while polyglutamic acid, a humectant, restores moisture. Even pitted against a full-glam face, Rhode’s pineapple cleanser can take on the challenge—and succeed—in just one wash.” —NP
Byroe Pro-Berry Pore Refining Toner
“Although every day doesn’t require a double cleanse, I turn to this superfood toner when I want to ensure my skin is free of leftover makeup and environmental impurities. The two-in-one formula also exfoliates and nourishes, and it’s packed with antioxidants from the fermented berries.” —DJ
Medik8 Super C Ferulic Serum
“We all love the warmth of the sun’s rays, but they can be responsible for some of the most visible signs of aging. Medik8’s potent vitamin C serum contains a powerful and stabilized form of the antioxidant, along with ferulic acid , which work to brighten skin as well as diminish and prevent dark spots and wrinkles.” —CL
EltaMD UV Daily Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40
“I come from a Caribbean family and spend a lot of time at the beach and on boats. EltaMD UV Clear 46 is a mainstay in my morning rotation , so I was elated when the brand released a tinted version. It blends seamlessly into my skin, resulting in an even tone that’s protected from the sun.” —DJ
Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Huez
“A true bad gal doesn’t have to forgo her flawless makeup look for sun protection. Marrying skin-soothing ingredients with the superb finish of its skin tints, Fenty Skin’s Hydra Vizor Huez matches your complexion, smooths skin, and imparts a sheer-yet-buildable coverage that makes you forget you’re wearing sunscreen.” —NP
Saie Dew Bronze
“I tend to shy away from liquid bronzers, because they leave my skin looking muddy, instead of adding warmth and a sun-kissed glow. Not this one—Saie’s bronzer is perfect for beginners as it blends easily and provides a dewy finish. Start with a few dots, because it’s highly pigmented.” —DJ
Make Up For Ever HD Skin Face Essentials
“The trick to mastering vacation makeup isn’t a skin tint or mattifying setting spray . While both are important, an all-encompassing face palette in a bi-fold case is the true must-have. Compact and lightweight, this product features six shades for easily customizable concealer, foundation, or even contour. Housed on the opposite side are blush shades to make your makeup work for you, not the other way around.” —NP
Olaplex Browbond Building Serum Eyebrow Enhancer
“Olaplex has been keeping our hair healthy for years, and it’s finally designed a product to boost our brows. Not only does this serum promote new growth and definition, it also works as a brow gel to keep those little hairs in place—perfect for no-makeup-makeup days. You’ll notice that your eyebrows feel softer over time.” —CL
Ami Colé Soft Shape Waterproof Lip Liner
“This waterproof lip liner won’t budge once you apply it. There are five flexible shades to choose from; my go-to is Café Touba, a hickory brown that gives me a natural, effortless look when paired with my favorite lip treatment oil .” —DJ
Bobbi Brown Extra Plump Hydrating Lip Serum
“A vacation is the perfect time to change up your look with a bold lip color or two. The new shades of Bobbi Brown’s Extra Plump Lip Serum include a juicy raspberry, a bright red, and other eye-catching hues. However, there are plenty of softer ones if you’d like to stick to those. Plus, the botanical oil-rich serum is so sheer and forgiving that I reapply it throughout the day sans mirror.” —CL
Tower 28 Beauty SOS LipSoftie Hydrating Lip Treatment Balm
“I can’t stand lip balms that feel thick and goopy. I want the formula to sink into my skin and moisturize it, but I don’t want the balm to suffocate my lips. Tower 28’s SOS LipSoftie fits the bill with its non-sticky formula and an ultra-hydrating blend of jojoba oil, lysine, and shea butter. The product gets bonus points for the round applicator, which makes it fun and easy to apply.” —CL
Guerlain Kiss Kiss Bee Glow Lip Oil
“This lip oil has earned a permanent spot in my everyday tote bag, because it feels so nourishing on my lips. With 92 percent natural origin ingredients, this skin care-makeup hybrid coats my lips with a beautiful, soft tint and leaves them moisturized with a subtle sheen. Plus, it’s not sticky like other lip oils— another reason why I always keep it around.” —DJ
Tom Ford Slim Lip Color
“You know what pairs well with a tequila-soaked mojito? A soft kiss of color on the rim from your new favorite lipstick. The Slim Lip Color Shine coats your lips with an emollient-rich wash of color that’s pigmented with just one swipe.” —NP
Urban Decay Face Bond Self Setting Waterproof Foundation
“I love nature and spend a lot of time outside in the summer. But when temperatures turn hot and humid, it can be disastrous for your makeup. When I don’t want to risk my foundation sliding off, I’ll opt for this formula for photo-ready skin. It’s buildable but dries quickly, so make sure your skin is hydrated, and apply it intentionally with a beauty blender—otherwise, your makeup might look splotchy.” —DJ
Benefit Cosmetics Dew La La All-Over Glow Liquid Highlighter
“Lately, I’ve been wearing this highlighter under my skin tint to give my face a subtle glow. It has skin-loving ingredients, including hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, which immediately hydrate your skin and brighten it over time.” —DJ

In-Flight Facial
111Skin Wrinkle Erasing Retinol Patches
“Botox isn’t for everyone—and by everyone, I mean me. I’m not quite ready for injections, but I do want to minimize and prevent fine lines and wrinkles . Each of these treatment sets contains semi-circle patches to target crow’s feet, strips for your forehead expressions, and a patch for frown lines. The blend of retinol , vitamin C, and a peptide complex keeps my skin smooth and bright.” —DJ
Fur Dark Spot Vanish Patch
“Have you ever finished shaving only to discover spots of hyperpigmentation left behind from body acne and pesky ingrown hairs? The Fur Dark Spot Vanish Patch is dotted with microdarts full of brightening ingredients, like niacinamide and tranexamic acid, to banish those dark spots for good. It takes at least six hours for the microdarts to dissolve, so the patches are perfect for leaving on during an international or cross-country flight.” —CL
MyKirei Soothing Steam Eye Mask
“Can’t go to the spa? Try one of these eye masks, and the spa will come to you. The self-warming mask comes with hooks for your ears, so you can sit back and relax. The packaging says it steams , and while I didn’t experience that, it still had a calming effect.” —DJ
Knesko Gold Repair Hand Mask
“No need to run from aging, but there are a bevy of products available to delay those early signs, including these golden collagen-boosting and elasticity-restoring hand masks. The serum is comprised of hyaluronic acid , peptides, and more to keep your hands soft, youthful, and bright.” —NP
U Beauty The PLASMA Lip Compound
“This isn’t your everyday lip gloss. This formula plumps and hydrates, instantly minimizing fine lines, and leaves my lips super soft. It comes in 14 different shades, my favorite being Shanghai, a vibrant red.” —DJ
AKT The Deodorant Balm
“While natural deodorants are arguably better for you, many fall short of staving off body odor. AKT is the only natural deodorant that lasted through my Saturday morning Orangetheory workout, followed by a day of errands. My favorite of the scents is Orange Grove, which reminds me of Fruit Loops. If its efficacy doesn’t impress you, its presentation sure will. Packaged in a tube, you can squeeze it onto your fingers or apply it with AKT’s gold applicator for a luxurious experience. Pro tip: Purchase the golden key to roll down the tube, and squeeze out every last drop.” —DJ
SheaMoisture Moisturizing Antiperspirant Deodorant
“Shea Moisture is one of my go-to hair brands, so I was excited when it expanded into deodorant. The Even Tone formula contains vitamin C and niacinamide and will have your armpits summer-ready in no time.” —DJ
Dove Whole Body Deo

Saltair Santal Bloom Skincare Deodorant
“There’s nothing unsexy about deodorant, especially with Santal Bloom in your arsenal. A proven ally, even in the most stifling heat, your pits have never been treated better. Salicylic acid eradicates odor and keeps the pits clear of hyperpigmentation or painful ingrown hairs with a long-lasting formula that’s perfect for every lifestyle.” —NP
By Rosie Jane Wake the F*ck Up Deodorant

Outside of its eau de parfums, it offers natural deodorants that are all aluminum-free with a pleasant smell to match. Each spray kills odor-causing bacteria via a blend of aloe vera, glycerin, and sugar cane alcohol.” —NP

Patrick Ta Major Glow Crème & Powder Light Reflecting Translucent Highlighter Duo
“This cream and powder highlighter duo can be used in multiple ways. When I want a dewy finish, I start with the cream and lightly press it into the high points of my face. For a bolder look, I apply the powder directly. If you mix both, you get a beautiful depth that’s unmatched.” —DJ
Mutha Body Butter Glow
“Mutha might as well have named this cream Mutha Body Butter: Vacation Edition. Inside the purple jar is the same rich concoction of cocoa, shea, and mango seed butters from the beloved original formula, but the cherry on top is the sprinkle of mica that glimmers and glows when applied to the skin. Feel free to tell everyone you woke up like that—it’ll be our little secret.” —CL
ThisWorks Perfect Legs Skin Miracle
“Are your legs looking a little dull in that bikini? A few swipes of this tinted serum will do the trick. This isn’t quite a tanning lotion , but it gently enhances your natural skin tone to reveal a filter-like finish worthy of a magazine cover.” —NP
Irene Forte Pistachio Face Oil
“Last summer, everyone wanted to smell like pistachios. This summer, Irene Forte wants you to put them on your face. This is the final step in my nighttime skin care routine, and I wake up with smooth, soft skin without fail.” —DJ
Sunny Scents
Phlur Soft Spot

“If you can’t make it to St. Barts this summer, you can still create the vibe via this heavenly aroma. In one sniff, this tropical scent will transport you to the Caribbean. I can’t get enough!” —DJ
Ourside Moon Dust Eau de Parfum
“For the uninitiated, this is a floral, citrusy fragrance with an earthy, green finish. It’s fun and playful but not overpowering, making it the perfect airy scent for schmoozing at an outdoor soirée.” —DJ
Fulton & Roark Thousand Palms Solid Fragrance
“The first word that comes to mind when I smell Thousand Palms is green. Inspired by a lively oasis in the middle of the Mojave Desert, its notes of bell pepper, coriander leaf, and patchouli conjure visions of lush palm trees swaying in the wind. The scent is available in a chic, TSA-friendly solid, but I always have a bottle of the extrait waiting for me at home, just in case.” —CL
L’Occitane Almond Delicious Shower Cream
“What’s better than snacking on almonds? Smelling like them. L’Occitane’s body wash packages the same heavenly aroma found in its cult-favorite shower oil and body milk in this creamy whipped formula that nourishes the skin with sweet almond oil.” —NP
Smooth Operators
Sara Happ The Lip Scrub
“Sara Happ is an ELLE favorite—our entire team loves the brand’s various lip balms and glosses. But the sugar- and oil-based lip scrub is our most prized possession. Dry flakes stand no chance against the formula, which gets our pouts smooth, silky, and ready for lipstick within seconds.” —CL
EADEM Cashmere Peel Gentle Exfoliating AHA Toner
“Properly prep your skin ahead of makeup application with this gentle face exfoliator . EADEM’s signature FastFade technology smooths and brightens with AHAs and PHAs , reducing texture and upping your makeup game. The formula also soothes the skin using rice water and colloidal oatmeal, preventing irritation or a weakened skin barrier.” —NP
Naturopathica 10% Glycolic Acid + Aloe Vera Resurfacing Pads
“My skin care sin is that, sometimes, I don’t regularly exfoliate, leading to dull and textured skin. But these resurfacing pads make exfoliating a breeze. They are powerful, so if you are new to acid exfoliation, I’d use this product every three days to start. If you have sensitive skin, opt for Naturopathica’s Pumpkin Purifying Enzyme Peel instead.” —DJ
Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Find Comfort Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash
“Why not wake up and start your day with a burst of citrusy goodness? The exfoliating properties of the plant-derived konjac jelly in this body wash tackle dead skin and reverse dullness, sans any harsh stripping. Follow up with the fragrance mist and body lotion to keep the good vibes going.” —NP

Mane It’s Giving Body Medium Hot Thermal Round Brush
“I rave about this round brush to anyone who will listen. I’m currently growing out a bob, and it’s reaching all of those awkward lengths where the most manageable way to wear it is to straighten it, instead of wearing my natural-but-unpredictable waves. But that doesn’t mean I want to spend a lot of time styling, especially while on a trip. That’s where Mane’s Hot Round Brush comes in. Minutes into running it through my tresses, my hair is smooth and bouncy, with no tangles but plenty of shine.” —CL
Althaea Skin C∙A∙R∙A Multi-Modal Tool
“Although at-home (or at-hotel room) treatments can’t come close to an in-office treatment, Althaea Skin’s C∙A∙R∙A Multi-Modal Tool is an impressive on-the-go alternative. With powerful blue and red lights, the device works to fight acne, plump skin, and repair the harm that sun exposure and pollutants wreak on our face during the day. Because it’s so compact, I don’t hesitate to slip the tool into my carry-on, even on weekends away.” —CL
Silk'n SilkyAir Pro
“I usually prefer to bring my own hair dryer rather than rely on the device that may or may not be in my hotel room. After all, I have no idea how it’ll perform or how much dust—or something worse—has been stuck in the dryer for months. The SilkyAir Pro works for pretty much everybody since it has three magnetic attachments: a diffuser, a small concentrator, and a wide concentrator. Heat damage is kept to a minimum too, since the tool constantly assesses the air temperature and tweaks it automatically when things are getting too hot.” —CL
SmoothSkin Pure Mini Lite
“Lightweight and compact, this laser device is the at-home hair removal companion you’ve been looking for to upkeep maintenance. Powered by 133 flashes per minute, the Pure Mini Lite is suitable for the body and face and reduces hair growth, when consistently applied, in about 12 weeks.” —NP
Polished Perfection
Pink Friday On My Tippies in Almond
“Calling all Barbz! Nicki Minaj collaborated with her longtime nail artist Yvett G to dream up a collection of stunning press-ons inspired by the rapper’s famously attention-grabbing sets. The first collection features nearly a dozen designs in various classic shapes and lengths to match any outfit and vibe. I tried a French manicure set, and they were so thin and nicely molded. Everyone thought I had gotten a gel mani on my natural nails!” —CL
Glamnetic Jelly Bean
“Glam girls, you don’t have to hit up the salon before hopping on a plane to your next destination. Pop this kit in your bag and apply the press-ons during the ride—you’ll land with a fresh and fun set that makes it look like you spent an hour with your favorite nail tech.” —CL
OPI My Me Era Nail Lacquer in Pricele$$
“If you’re headed to a balmy, verdant paradise, it only makes sense for your fingertips to match. OPI’s Pricele$$ is a creamy green that echoes the leaves of thriving flora. The polish dries quickly to prevent accidental smudging and can stay chip-free for up to seven days.” —CL
Manicurist Active Glow

Jones Road Beauty The Nail Polish Kit
“Sometimes, my feet don’t necessarily need another pedicure, but rather a polish change. This nail polish kit, which is great for weekend trips, contains the perfect shade of red, a ballerina pink, a two-in-one top and base coat, and a nail file—everything you need for a DIY mani-pedi. Bonus: The polish lasts a long time.” —DJ

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Solid Perfume Compact
Even if you love your signature scent, we're guessing you're not super into the idea of it spilling all over the contents of your suitcase. That's where this compact comes in: It houses a mirror and a balmlike solid vanilla-violet-and-sandalwood fragrance that's completely drip-proof.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray
The company took its OG salt spray for creating perfect beachy waves and put it in tiny 1.7-ounce bottles to make it both adorable and conveniently portable.
Lavanila the Healthy Deodorant in Pure Vanilla Mini
Meet the rare natural, aluminum-free deodorant that actually works—in fact, it's so good, we've given it a Best of Beauty Award. This compact version packs all the same wetness- and odor-fighting power in a less bulky package.
Su:m37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick
A solid cleansing balm in stick form that a) won't leak or drip and b) couldn't be easier to use. This antioxidant-packed pick, made by innovative Korean skin-care brand Su:m37, is a favorite of Soko Glam founder Charlotte Cho. Just twist the dial at the bottom (like you would a Chapstick), then massage it into your skin and rinse or wipe off. It's so simple, you could even do it on an airplane.
The Honest Company Hand Sanitizer Spray
Most hand sanitizers smell like obscenely cheap vodka. These spritz-on ones smell like lemongrass, lavender, and oranges. And if that weren't enough of a minor miracle, they're also way less drying than most other formulas we've tried, thanks to a dose of aloe and glycerin.
La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye and Lip Perfection á Porter
On-the-go skin care doesn't get much more luxurious than this eye and lip duo. It combines a creamy, superthick—but not at all sticky—lip balm that melts into lips with a lightweight yet quenching eye cream, packaged together in one mirrored compact. Both formulas are gentle, so they won't further agitate skin that's been through a lot (say, a transatlantic journey).
EOS Every Day Hand Lotion
The slim, rounded tube can squeeze into even the tiniest pocket of your carry-on. Plus, it's lightweight and nongreasy, so it soaks in in seconds, leaving a pleasant scent and softness in its wake.
MoRoCcanoil Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is a travel must: Who wants to waste precious vacation time washing and styling her hair? The formula in this 1.7-ounce can smells heavenly, degreases strands, and comes in two different tints, so there's none of that chalky cast other versions can leave.
Laneige BB Cushion
We've all seen that "Oh, no! My nudes leaked!" meme that's a photo of a drippy foundation bottle—and for anyone who's ever had a makeup-bag travel mishap, it's all too real. This compact contains a cushion soaked with a thin BB cream that is about as leakproof as it gets. It also hides blemishes, evens skin tone, hydrates, and offers sun protection.
Grown Alchemist Hydra-Mist+ Desert Lime & Amino-Peptide
Aerosols can sometimes do weird things in pressurized airplane cabins. And so can your skin. This non-aerosol mist is spiked with hyaluronic acid, pomegranate, and bilberry-leaf extracts to calm inflammation, as well as peptides and antioxidants to protect and bolster skin during even the longest flights.
Coola 4-Piece Organic Suncare Travel Set
This kit is basically a dermatologist's dream. It contains every kind of sunscreen you could possibly need: a spray-on natural one that smells like coconuts, a smaller bring-with-you-to-the-beach lotion, and a lip balm—all with SPF 30. There's also a tube of aloe-laced after-sun moisturizer to help rehab skin in case you (somehow) miss a spot.
Fresh Seaberry Restorative Body Cream
In case we haven't made it clear: Traveling makes your skin really freakin' dry. And that doesn't just mean your face. This buttery, paraben -free 2.2-ounce cream helps it bounce back with a blend of four different omegas, plus seaberry oil and cranberry-seed oil.

TripSavvy / Leticia Almeida
There’s nothing worse than arriving excitedly at your destination to find that your toiletries have spilled all over your suitcase. Or to be the person who holds up the line at security while the TSA agents discard your oversized liquids. Both of these scenarios are easily avoided by investing in a set of appropriately sized, 100 percent leakproof travel toiletry bottles. There are lots of options out there in terms of bottle quantity, size, and design, with the right one for you depending on factors such as how long you’ll be traveling and the complexity of your beauty routine.
To help you narrow down the choices, our team of travel experts put 14 toiletry bottle sets to the test. Each one was scored for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value, with average scores used to determine the winners of categories ranging from “best budget” to “most durable.”
Final Verdict
How we tested.
- What to Look For
Why Trust TripSavvy
Best overall, liquisnugs premium silicone travel bottles.
- Ease of Use 5 /5
- Quality 5 /5
- Design 5 /5
- Performance 5 /5
Very secure, with no leaks during testing
Stick to vertical surfaces
Easy to stay organized
Lack of variety
The LiquiSnugs Premium Silicone Travel Bottles offer flawless performance at a price so reasonable our tester was shocked by it. The set includes two 2-ounce bottles and two 3-ounce bottles, both of which adhere to TSA carry-on regulations. We liked the flexibility afforded by the two different sizes since there are always products we need more and less of on vacation. We were able to easily fit all four in a quart-sized Ziploc bag simultaneously without placing pressure on any of them. All bottles are made of flexible, food-grade, BPA-free silicone, making them easy to pack and dispense.
With a dripless valve and bottleneck design, the bottles are advertised as 100 percent leakproof—a claim we can support, with no spillages even after being dropped and thrown around repeatedly during testing. We liked that the bottles’ wide mouths made them simple to fill, empty, and clean as needed. Other highlights include the suction pad on the back of each bottle (great for attaching them to the bathroom wall) and the changeable labels. Options for the latter include shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, soap, and lotion, enabling you to switch up the uses on each trip.

Best Budget
Vitog travel bottles kit.
- Ease of Use 4 /5
- Performance 4.5 /5
Multiple dispensing methods
Comes with several functional extras
Good value for money
Capacity could be larger
Retailing for half the price of our already affordable overall winner, the Vitog Travel Bottles Kit is a no-brainer for budget-conscious buyers. It includes six 1.4-ounce bottles and two 0.4-ounce bottles. The larger ones consist of two pump bottles with a removable clip to prevent accidental deployment, two spray bottles, and two flip-cap bottles. The smaller ones are miniature cream jars. All eight are made from clear PET plastic, which we found durable yet lightweight enough for travel. We also liked that we could easily see how much product was left.
We appreciated the thoughtful inclusion of a pipette, a funnel, and a spatula to help with decanting products from their original containers. They made the bottles relatively easy to fill, although we did experience some spillage when decanting thick body lotion. Nevertheless, there was no leaking or visible wear and tear after our intensive testing process. The set also includes a sheet of labels and a clear plastic toiletry bag. The only real drawback? None of the bottles are particularly big, making this option suitable for short trips only.

Cadence The Originals Set
- Design 4.5 /5
- Performance 4 /5
Unique design
Performed well throughout testing
Customizable
More of an investment than others
Limited capacity
The Originals from Cadence are small, hexagonal capsules with screw-top lids that connect magnetically together in any shape or configuration you like. Aesthetics are at the forefront of this brand, as you can choose different colors for each capsule as well as printed, switchable, magnetic labels. In fact, they look so cute that you could even buy toiletries in bulk and decant them into these capsules for use at home. Sustainable practices like these are reinforced by the fact that the capsules are made from 20 percent recycled ocean-bound plastic.
We love that the capsules’ wide mouths and rounded interiors make them effortless to fill, use, and clean. They’re also 100 percent leakproof, waterproof, and airtight, as proven by our testing process. We found them incredibly durable and can’t imagine a scenario that would result in them being punctured or crushed. They are small (each one carries just 0.56 ounces), which could be a drawback. However, a capacity calculator on the brand website suggests you can carry approximately a week’s worth of products, depending on how regularly you use each one.

No diversity in size or design
If your primary concern when packing liquids in your hand luggage is leaking, you’ll love the Mrsdry Travel Bottles Set. It consists of four 3-ounce bottles, each made of thick silicone that feels ultra-durable, and they stood up perfectly to our squeeze and drop tests. We were particularly impressed with the bottles’ no-drip valves, which successfully prevented leaks. All four bottles use the same shape and dispensing method—a pro for those who want lots of capacity for fewer products, and a drawback for those with a more complex personal care routine.
Having said that, we did feel that this set is so reasonably priced, there’s nothing to stop you from buying multiple sets if you have more products to pack. Instead of labels, the bottles come in four separate shades to distinguish between them. We also liked that their wide opening makes them easy to fill, even with thicker liquids and gels. And when it comes to cleaning them, the bendable silicone easily accommodates a bottle brush. All colorways include a transparent carry case.
Number of Bottles: 4 | Sizes: (4) 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone
Best Variety
Morfone 16 pack travel bottles.
- Ease of Use 4.5 /5
- Quality 4.5 /5
Good array of containers
Burly silicone handles rough treatment
Jar lids are weaker than expected
Multicolored style may not suit everyone
The Morfone Travel Bottles Set caters to travelers with an extensive beauty routine. With 10 containers in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and dispensing methods, you can take a broad range of products in just the right quantities for your time away. Options are as follows: two 1-ounce spray bottles, two 3-ounce squeeze bottles, two 2-ounce squeeze bottles, two 1-ounce jars, and two 0.3-ounce jars. We were impressed by the capacity of the largest bottles, which we felt could easily hold at least four washes’ worth of shampoo and conditioner.
The bottles are made of durable yet flexible food-grade silicone, with wide mouths for easy filling and cleaning. We appreciated the inclusion of two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush to help with these tasks, as well as a sheet of labels. Most of the containers held up well to our durability tests with no leaks or spills. The only exception was one of the jars, which suffered a broken lid. The set comes in a transparent carry bag and could fit into a quart-sized Ziploc (a TSA requirement) with some skillful maneuvering, although it was tight.
Number of Bottles: 10 | Sizes: (2) 0.3-ounce, (4) 1-ounce, (2) 2-ounce, (2) 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone
Best for Larger Capacities
Insfit tsa carry-on approved containers.
Great value for money
Well-designed lids
Choice of cute color palettes
Can be finicky with certain products
The INSFIT set is ideal for those who like to keep things simple with only a handful of essential products but also tend to travel for longer and need as much capacity as TSA will allow. It features four identical 3-ounce silicone bottles large enough to hold at least one to two weeks’ worth of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and sunscreen (or similar). The bottles are squeezable, which makes dispensing simple, although we found that thicker lotions and gels were easier to squeeze if the bottle was at least half full.
Other highlights include fully removable caps and wide mouths for mess-free filling and easy cleaning, and three-layered lids that are essentially leakproof. Even during our pressure test, caps remained securely in place, and afterward, the bottles still looked brand new. In fact, we were shocked to find out how affordable this set is given its evident quality. We also liked the stylish, see-through carry bag and the fact that there’s a special place on the caps to stick the included labels so that they adhere properly.
Best for Backpacking
Matador flatpak toiletry bottle.
Ideal for reducing heft and bulk
Thoughtful design elements
Proved durable during our testing
Difficult to fill with thicker consistencies
Made of waterproof 30D Cordura ripstop nylon with proprietary welded construction, the Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles are by far the most technical option on this list. With their flat-pack design and sturdy quality, they’re designed especially for adventures and expeditions where saving on space and weight is a priority . With a capacity of 3 ounces each, they’re five times lighter and 3.5 times more compact than standard silicone bottles, and pliable enough to fit into tight spaces: the ultimate backpacking companion.
We found them easy to fill with any liquid that was the consistency of shampoo or thinner. Thicker gels and lotions were tricky since the mouth wasn’t as wide as that of standard travel bottles. Still, any mess is easy to clean off the waterproof exterior. They fit easily into a quart-sized Ziploc, and we love the snap hook for attaching to the outside of your backpack for on-the-go use. The loop also features a spot for writing a description of the contents with a permanent marker. As expected, the packs survived all our tests with zero leaks or signs of damage.
Number of Bottles: 3 | Sizes: (3) 3-ounce | Materials: 30D Cordura ripstop nylon
Our overall favorite was the LiquiSnugs Premium Travel Bottles set. These bottles stood out for their durable, leakproof silicone construction and thoughtful extras including adjustable labels and individual suction pads. For the most budget-friendly option, choose the small yet sturdily versatile Vitog Travel Bottles Kit .
Upon receiving the bottles, our first step was to examine their overall quality and design and note any unique features. Then, we filled at least three of the bottles in the set: one with lotion, one with micellar water, and one with shampoo. For each one, we noted how easy it was to fill without spilling, how easy it was to clean if spillage did occur, and how appropriate each bottle would be for holding different types of liquid. We also tested how easy it was to open the bottle and dispense the product inside.
Next, we compressed the bottles in our palms to mimic pressure. We shook them, rolled them, squeezed them, and threw them to stimulate rough handling in transit, noting how well they withstood this treatment. Our final test was to put all of the bottles from the set into a quart-sized Ziploc bag, and then inside a toiletry bag. Then, we dropped them from waist height three times, always from different angles, to see whether any breakages or leaks occurred and whether the bottles showed any signs of wear and tear.
Each set was scored on a scale of one to five for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value. Average scores were used to determine our category winners.
Other Travel Toiletry Bottles We Tested
GLOBEGEAR Travel Bottles : This nine-piece set features a solid range of containers and tools made of hard plastic that doesn't feel flimsy. We deducted points for the skimpy capacity of the bottles, which would only last a few days or applications (and made filling the bottles difficult), though the affordable price makes this a good option for the infrequent traveler.
Kitsch Travel Containers : Fans of variety will appreciate the range of products included in this compact kit. It won't set you back much and, accordingly, we feel it also won't last long. We like the idea of the flat containers but found them somewhat difficult to fill.
Cosywell Travel Containers : The Cosywell Containers are all the same shape in 10- and 20-milliliter capacities. We found the plastic and silicone jars easy to fill and well-designed, but they're more suited to thick liquids such as gels and creams.
What to Look For in Travel Toiletry Bottles
Durability is key when choosing travel toiletry bottles since containers that are easily punctured or cracked will result in a mess that’s at best inconvenient and at worst potentially expensive or upsetting depending on how much product is wasted and whether any other items in your carry-on are affected. Look for options made out of sturdy hard plastic or thick, flexible silicone, then check user reviews to get an idea of how the construction holds up under real-life travel conditions. If you’re planning an extreme adventure, technical options like the waterproof flat-pack bottles from Matador may be worth the extra expense.
Leakproofness
A bottle doesn’t have to break for leaks to occur—all it takes is a poorly constructed seal or lid. Look for bottles with a triple-layered leakproof cap and jars with a secure screw top. Pump bottles should come with a removable clip that prevents them from being deployed accidentally. Again, user reviews help check how efficient these measures are (it’s easy for a brand to advertise their product as leakproof, even if it’s not). Some brands, like Cadence, actually guarantee the efficacy of their leakproof design. Just in case, we always recommend storing toiletry bottles in a waterproof bag or Ziploc as a second line of defense.
If you plan on packing your toiletry bottles in your carry-on bag, you must make sure that none of them exceed the TSA-approved limit of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Some sets are made up of identical large bottles of around 3 ounces, giving you the maximum allowable capacity for each of your products. However, because all bottles must fit in a single quart-sized Ziploc bag, this limits the number of bottles to around four.
If you have more products to pack, you may prefer a set that divides this capacity between a greater number of smaller bottles and containers—especially if you only require some of your liquids in very small quantities. The length of your trip will also dictate how big you need your bottles to be unless you only plan on using your carry-on liquids as a backup in case the full-size versions in your checked luggage get delayed.
Toiletries can be stored in opaque, translucent, or transparent bottles of any color as long as each individual bottle does not exceed the maximum capacity limit. For carry-on bags, most authorities including TSA set that limit at 3.4 ounces. Liquids can be in their original container or decanted into any container of your choosing (even one that’s labeled incorrectly), as long as these size restrictions are adhered to.
Most airport authorities—including TSA—rule that bottles containing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes cannot exceed 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) if you wish to pack them in your carry-on luggage . In addition, all of these bottles must fit inside a quart-sized Ziploc bag and be screened separately from the rest of your luggage at security. Containers that exceed this limit will not be permitted, even if the volume of the product inside is less than 3.4 ounces (for example, if you have a half-used bottle of conditioner). Note that these restrictions do not apply to checked luggage.
Although toiletry bottles don’t have to be labeled from a legal perspective, many people like to do so to ensure they don’t end up brushing their teeth with expensive moisturizer, or vice versa. Some travel bottles come with waterproof stickers, especially for this purpose, and you can also purchase them separately online. This is a better option than writing on a standard office label by hand since toiletry bottles frequently get wet and ink can run and cause staining or become illegible. Alternatively, a permanent marker applied directly to the bottle could be an option if you’re always going to use the same container for the same product.

Legendary beauty products seller Avon files for bankruptcy
Avon filed for bankruptcy to address its debts and legal liabilities from talc-based product lawsuits.

Avon Products on Monday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as the beauty brand looks to address its debt and legal liabilities stemming from lawsuits that alleged its talc-based products were contaminated with cancer-causing substances.
The holding company hasn't sold Avon products in the U.S. since it divested its North America business in 2016, but remains the holding company for the Avon brand's operating entities outside the U.S.
Avon is known for selling cosmetics , skin care, perfume and personal care products, as well as the company's door-to-door saleswomen.
"Today's action and the proposed sale of Avon's non-U.S. operations will maximize the value of our assets and enable us to address our obligations in an orderly manner," John Dubel, chair of Avon Products, said in a release.

Avon CEO Kristof Neirynck said the company is "focused on advancing our business strategy internationally, including modernizing our direct selling model and reigniting the brand to accelerate growth. Since becoming CEO earlier this year, I am increasingly energized by our strength and opportunities, supported by our valued Associates and nearly 2 million Representatives around the world."
Avon's operations outside the U.S. are excluded from the legal proceedings and will continue to operate as normal while the process plays out.

Natura & Co., a Brazil-based firm that acquired Avon in 2020, entered into an agreement to buy the equity interests in Avon's non-U.S. operations for $125 million in a credit bid that's subject to a court-supervised auction process.
Natura also committed up to $43 million in financing that would, subject to court approval, provide liquidity for Avon Products to cover its obligations during the sale process.

I Wore These Baggy Jeans to the Office. Now My Co-Workers Can't Stop Buying Them.
Plus, we asked a fashion stylist to share her best tips for nailing the trend.
We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.
Luckily, fashion stylist Catherine Bibeau sees no signs of the baggy jean trend slowing. "Baggy jeans with more of a fitted waist and a bell bottom are super popular right now with TikTok trends and throughout editorial magazines," according to the stylist. "You’ll notice a mix of dark wash and light wash throughout the season this year as denim is going to be hot!"
I also gathered a brain trust of style experts, including our own in-house textiles pro Emma Seymour , and tapped their impeccable taste and styling tips. From wide-leg to low-rise options or boot cut to tapered, these picks puddle into our curated list of baggy jeans for every body type.
Abercrombie Low Rise Baggy Jean
Banding a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants among staffers on my floor, these Abercrombie jeans flattered across different heights and sizes , becoming part of an unofficial work uniform. It comes in five (!) inseam lengths — extra short to extra long — to ensure anyone from below 5 feet to over 6 feet can find their ideal fit. I also love dialing up the slouchiness with the Ultra Loose version of these.
TESTER NOTES: When I think of the quintessential baggy jeans, nothing quite compares to these. The low-rise pair has quite literally stopped my co-workers in their tracks to ask me where to get one of their own. When I get dressed in the morning, I can't help but reach for these pants because of A) how easy they are to style with a basic tee and B) how comfortably and loosely they fit on my hips. For sizing, I sized down one full size and opted for the short — as I do for all of Abercrombie's bottoms — even though I'm 5'4. Upon finding the right size, they fit perfectly!
Universal Thread Women's Mid-Rise 90's Baggy Jeans
At under $22 , Universal Thread makes some of our favorite baggy denim for less. They're made with 100% cotton for a more structured silhouette. And we're impressed by the Target brand's size range, which spans sizes 00 to 30 and three different inseam lengths. It also has a mid-rise fit, so you can easily style it with cropped tops or full-length shirts.
TESTER NOTES: "I always struggle to find a pair of jeans that hugs my curves right without being too tight, too loose or just has a weird look. I love styling these gray high-rise jeans with a T-shirt for an edgy and chic look! They are so comfortable and versatile!" — Valerie Agyeman , contributing dietitian
Levi's Ribcage Wide Leg Women's Jeans
Maybe you already own a pair or two of Levi's. Since 1853, the brand has been a trailblazer for jeans, weaving good quality denim with timeless silhouettes . This ribcage style fits the bill, rising high on the waist and billowing into a loose fit.
I love the vintage-inspired design. And its dark blue wash pairs well with a plain button-up for work ensembles, while its classic medium wash dresses down for off-duty outfits.
TESTER NOTES: "I have owned these jeans in the white color for a few years, and I love them. They look more beige/tan than white, which makes them perfect with a nicer blouse or sweater to wear to work and paired with a crop top or tank top to wear out and about. I used to wear these jeans all the time to internships in college because they're so loose and comfortable but still looked somewhat professional. Now they are my favorite pair of jeans for autumn because they fit the dark academia type of style!" — Isabella Cavallo , assistant commerce editor
American Eagle Dreamy Drape Stretch Super High-Waisted Baggy Wide-Leg Jean
All ages raved about these Dreamy Drape jeans when we put a call out for the best baggy jean recommendations. American Eagle is one of our favorite clothing brands for size-inclusive pants , underscored by this pair's soft, lightweight denim that ranges from 000 Short to 20 Long. True to the style's name, it has a slouchy fit and ends with a frayed hem for a fringe of casualness.
TESTER NOTES : "I love how chic and stylish these jeans look, especially with a simple tee. They're so easy to style and so comfortable. I've even worn these on a few flights! I reach for them year-round, even in the summer because of how breathable and lightweight they are (without feeling flimsy). They still look new after a year of frequent wear." — Courtesy of a Good Housekeeping tester
Universal Standard Donna High Rise Curve Straight Leg Jeans
Spanning sizes 0 to 40, Universal Standard's sample size is 18. It's constructed with a bit of stretch to prevent gaping in the waist or sagging at the hips. These jeans feature a straight-leg shape that bags at the ankles, so I'd opt to pair these with slim footwear like loafers and mules.
TESTER NOTES : "These baggy straight-leg jeans are super comfortable and offer a loose fit, thanks to the stretch fabric. I'd recommend even sizing down one size! I love the look, but one thing to note — the open holes on the legs can easily catch on drawer knobs and rip the fabric (I've had to patch up a couple of spots.)" — Lauren Matthews , group executive digital content director
Free People We The Free Good Luck Mid-Rise Barrel Jeans
Consider "barrel jeans" a new take on wide-leg jeans. Falling into the oversize category, the exaggerated silhouette has extra volume throughout the leg area, tapping Western trends, per Home & Apparel Reviews Analyst Amanda Constantine .
These pair well with simple flip-flops or sandals to keep the jeans the focal point. Not to mention, it comes in 18 styles, including cargo green to chic black.
TESTER NOTES : "I was searching for the perfect pair of baggy jeans and finally found them. These jeans have been my go-to since Day One, with the cut and shape being ideal for my shorter frame. They're incredibly flattering and versatile, easily dressed up or down. I sized up for a more low-rise look, but the rise is highly adjustable with a belt. Whether worn low-rise or adjusted higher, these jeans consistently deliver on style and comfort, making them my favorite and most versatile pair." — Sophie Park, commerce content strategy manager
Gap Mid-Rise Cargo Baggy Jeans
Gap takes the thing I love most about baggy jeans (i.e. comfort) and kicks it up a notch. Made from a Tencel blend, its u ltra-soft fabric — reminiscent of jeggings — feels lightweight and flowy and less structured than other jeans on this list. They hit mid-waist, meaning you can experiment with different shirt lengths. Whether you wear regular, tall or petite, the pair also comes in three coordinating inseam lengths.
TESTER NOTES : These pants put the "wide" in wide leg. Combined with its comfy, drapey fabric, the exaggerated silhouette looked chic and flowy. I'm obsessed with the dark indigo wash because it looks professional around the office. Contrasting elements can easily elevate an outfit, which is why I paired the casual button down and jeans with a pointed kitten heel. They hit the perfect length, but were an inch too long when I wore them with flats. That said, I found the perfect fit by sizing down from my typical size and opting for a short.
Reformation Cary High Rise Slouchy Wide Leg Jeans
Don't make the same mistake I did by sleeping on Reformation's jeans. Many know the brand for its coveted dresses that seem straight out of a bridal catalog. However, their denim is well-crafted and equally stylish. This pair's relaxed fit lends an effortless coolness that can be amped up with a pair of strappy heels.
TESTER NOTES: Within mere seconds in the dressing room, the fit of these jeans had me sold. They hug my waist and hips like they were made for me, yet fit slouchy in the legs. They strike a harmonious cord of effortless comfort. I love wearing my pair to the office, balancing professional elements — like a blazer and heeled boots – with casual denim. Good news for tall folks: These jeans run on the long side. Regular or short-sized wearers, like me, may need to get their pants hemmed a little bit.
DL1961 Lucila High Waist Ultra Wide Leg Jeans
Baggy meets wide leg with this DL1961 pair. The jeans' light wash and ultra-flared bottoms nod to retro styles that look straight out of the '70s. The sanded front crease adds to the worn look of it all. These fit extra high and tout a 33-inch inseam. I love pairing bell bottom-esque styles with platform shoes because they give the illusion of mile-long legs.
TESTER NOTES: "I've always been apprehensive about wide-leg and baggy jeans, especially in a lighter wash, but I instantly fell in love with this pair the first time I tried it. The legs are some of the widest I've seen, and may even feel like "too much" at first glance, but they make for an effortless, showstopping look. I love pairing them with everything from sneakers to heels and a simple T-shirt and like that I don't need to think too hard to make them look good. Note that I hemmed these because the 33-inch inseam was a little too much for me." — Grace Wu , product analyst
Zara TRF High Rise Wide Leg Jeans
Ever bought a pair of jeans only to tug them on and discover they look like capris? That's not even a concern with these Zara jeans. Made with tall shoppers in mind, this high-rise, wide-leg pair has an extra-long pant leg . Those with more height will have more room to play with billowing shapes, as this style won't drown their frames as much. These jeans fit great on our 5'8 staffer, without any hemming required.
TESTER NOTES : "I randomly bought these a few years ago and they are my most worn pair. They have a snug fit through the waist that creates a great shape, while the long inseam fits my tall frame perfectly. I have a distressed pair, and I love the ripped look, too." — Emma Seymour , Textiles Lab associate director

Kitchen tools for all.
“Every time a friend asks me what to get to outfit their kitchen, I point them to this,” recipe developer and chef Jane Morgan told the Strategist’s kitchen and dining writer Emma Wartzman. The Goldilocks Utensil Set is just as useful for the serious home cook as it is for the recent college graduate learning to fry an egg. This professional-grade 12-piece array includes a standard wooden spoon, tongs, a silicone spatula, a fish spatula, a ladle, and a grater as well as items rarely found in other sets, like measuring cups and a colander. Morgan said the pieces are “no frills but high quality—like, you could find them in a restaurant-supply store.” The set is also the least expensive of its size on our list.
This Thing’s Incredible
How i turned my iphone into a 2007 blackberry.
In the early days of smartphones, devices with physical keyboards (like my beloved BlackBerry Bold) were the norm. Of course my iPhone can perform all the functions my BlackBerry did, but it’s also loaded with distractions that make it hard to stay on task. However, since plunking my iPhone into a Clicks Keyboard case , I feel as productive as I did in my BlackBerry days. The case has a keyboard that sits just underneath the phone’s screen. Its keys have the same satisfying click and adjustable backlight BlackBerrys were known for. I now type onto a screen unobstructed by a digital keyboard. This lets me see more search results on a single web page and keep tabs on a long text while I’m replying. The main downsides: Clicks isn’t waterproof and is too large for my back pocket. Still, I’m a fan. Pretty soon I’ll be typing without looking, just like I could in the aughts. – Jordan McMahon

“I’m Black, so I can’t be going outside all ashy. You know, rubbing your elbows together and starting a fire. You take a shower, you exfoliate, you got your skin-care routine. My girlfriend introduced me to Bio-Oil for my skin. It gets rid of scars and bumps, and a bottle lasts you a long time.”
Suzie Kondi’s Matcha Whisk
“Back when Cha Cha Matcha made its entrance in New York City, I saw them using an electric whisk, and it was a moment of like, How brilliant is that? I was on line and asked them where they got it, and now I have the whisk everywhere.”

Harry Potter Squishmallows launched in 2023 and made our list of the year’s hottest holi- day toys. The latest batch from the Wizarding World is now available for preorder and features Dobby the house-elf, a mandrake, Fawkes the phoenix, and the Sorting Hat.
A lot of collaborations feel contrived, but this one from artist and author Phoebe Wahl and the brand Sarah’s Silks just makes sense. I love how each silk scarf could double as a framable piece of art.
This year is the 50th anniversary of Hello Kitty, and this plush key chain, featuring Ms. Kitty as she looked in 1974, is my favorite piece of celebratory merch so far.
LEGO releases brand-new themed building sets on a regular basis. This replica of Bumblebee, the Transformer that turns into a VW Bug, is my pick of its recent drops.
Strategist Explains
Why are halloween decorations already on shelves.
Our resident Halloween obsessive Jen Trolio explains why skeletons are for sale—and selling out.
These days, all real Halloween heads know that July 5 is the start of spooky season. Decorations first hit shelves at arts-and-crafts stores like Jo-Ann Fabrics and Michaels, quickly followed by T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Target, and Home Depot. If you see something you want, buy it—products go fast. Around now is also when Halloween fanatics start to share stuff online with the hashtag #CodeOrange, which means the frenzy has begun. This year, the hot item everyone wants is the Costco Giant Ground Breaking Skeleton. It started to go viral the weekend before July 4, when people began noticing it in warehouses and sharing pictures of it online. I recently called my local store to check on a restock, and the person on the phone said, “Are you calling about the skeleton? You must be the 3 millionth person today.” It was 10 a.m., and the store hadn’t even opened yet. She said the phone had been ringing since 7:30.

Especially nice-looking catchalls.
I’ve collected catchalls for years, and as their name suggests, they are a place for everything—from loose coins and receipts to tubes of lipstick. I found a few for all sorts of tastes. – Ambar Pardilla

Antiques dealer Erica Weiner has a habit of swiping restaurant-branded ashtrays, including this one from Paris’s famous Café de Flore . “Turns out if you’re not drunk and emboldened to steal, you can buy one,” she says.
Maraschino cherries and candy- cane stripes make for one maximalist dish.
If you blink, you might think these hyperrealistic bugs are actually crawling across the plate.
These plates apparently celebrate the Palio horse race, held twice a year in Siena, Italy. They are a lovely and wacky take on the “slow and steady” motto.
Beauty Brief
My lash extensions last almost a month with this serum.
I have very oily eyelids and lashes, so when I get lash extensions, I get less than two weeks of peak fluttering fullness. Around day ten, I start finding fake lashes everywhere: on pillowcases, in the sink, even nestled in the cotton fibers of my bath mat. My favorite lash artist, Clementina Richardson, owner of Envious Lashes in midtown, developed a serum that’s supposed to help extensions stick around, so I decided to give it a try. The formula protects the glue from skin oils and moisture. “It’s kind of like a nail-polish topcoat— a topcoat for glue,” she said. You’re supposed to apply it twice a day, in the morning and before bed. I started to notice a difference around day nine, when I realized I hadn’t seen any errant lashes on my cheeks or on my desk, and by week three my lashes were at about half-fullness, which is huge for me. So far, I’ve tested the serum on three sets of lashes, and the results are consistent: a solid extra week of near-full flutter. – Crystal Martin
