Modern web browsers all follow a rapid release cycles. Newer versions of the browser are released every month or every few months which means new features and UI changes come often. Safari goes against the grain. It does not update nearly as often as Chrome or Firefox. In fact, it only gets a handful of updates in year.

Update Safari on iPhone and Mac

Safari is an app in its own right and it stands to reason that updates to the browser can be delivered like they can for any other app. On paper, this is true but Apple doesn’t develop Safari that way. It also doesn’t release updates to it directly i.e. as a stand alone app. Safari updates are bundled with OS updates.

Update Safari on iPhone

You cannot update Safari from the App Store on iOS. If there is an update for the browser, even if it’s a small one, it will be delivered via an iOS update. This means, you need to check for and install pending iOS updates to update Safari on the iPhone.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Go to General>Software Update.
  • Check for and install the available update.

Update Safari on Mac

Much like iOS, Safari on macOS updates via an OS update.

  • Open System Preferences on your Mac.
  • Go to Software Update (first preference on the fourth row).
  • Allow the app to check for updates.
  • Download and install the update.

Check for Safari updates

Apple normally does not include in the release notes if there is a Safari update. If your device is getting a major OS update e.g., iOS 14 to iOS 15, Safari will definitely get an update. If it’s a smaller update, you should check the link attached to the update message. This will tell you the type of update you’re getting e.g. a feature update or a security patch, and it will tell you if it includes a Safari update or not.

Apple does not force OS updates. On both iOS and macOS, users have to check for, download, and install updates via the Settings or System Preferences app. That said, these updates are often critical, especially if they are security updates. You should always try and keep your devices, Apple or otherwise, up to date. Updated software is secure software and Macs are prone to malware like any other computer. They may offer better security but better security doesn’t necessarily mean immunity from attacks.

iOS 18 Safari — biggest new features for your iPhone

Highlights and a redesigned Reader add some smarts to Safari on your iPhone

iOS 18 logo on an iPhone 15 Pro

Safari, Apple's built-in web browser across its different devices, won't get a radical overhaul as part of iOS 18 . But even just two big changes to the iPhone's default browser hint at Apple's larger strategy of leaning into machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Both major additions to Safari in iOS 18 promise to skim web pages and pull out the details you need. The idea, explains Beth Dakin, Apple's senior manager of Safari software engineering, in Apple's WWDC 2024 video is to offer "easier ways to discover content and streamline your browsing."

Even better, while the new Safari features do turn to machine learning, they're not part of the Apple Intelligence capabilities being introduced across Apple devices later this year. That means Safari's improvements will be available on more phones than just the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max , plus whatever iPhone 16 models come out later this fall.

With that in mind, here's what to expect from iOS 18 Safari once you upgrade to the new iPhone software, whether that's when the full version comes out later this year or Apple makes the iOS 18 public beta available in July.

iOS 18 Safari: Highlights

Highlights feature in iOS 18 Safari

Think of Highlights, the biggest of the two improvements to iOS 18 Safari, as a kind of hyper-focused summary tool. Instead of merely summarizing what's on the page, though, Highlights uses machine intelligence to identify the key bits on information on a particular page and calls them out in a pop-up window as you browse.

An example Apple uses throughout its iOS 18 preview shows a web page for a hotel where Highlights has called up a window showing the hotel's location on a map, plus quick links for driving directions or placing a call to the hotel. Other examples of Highlights include Wikipedia summaries of a person, playback links for songs, or summarized reviews for a movie or TV show.

It's unclear from Apple's demo whether Highlights appear automatically in Safari, or if you need to tap a button to get the Highlights window to pop-up. Footnotes on Apple's iOS 18 summary page indicate that the feature will only work with U.S. English sites, at least initially.

iOS 18 Safari: Reader

Reader in iOS 18

The Reader tool in iOS 18 Safari also picks up some summarization skills, giving you the opportunity to read a quick overview of a web page when you switch to Reader mode. Reader takes things a step further by generating a table of contents for a web article that lets you see how a page is organized. Presumably, you'll also be able to jump to specific sections of the article.

Galaxy AI tools on board the best Samsung phones add summarization features, so it's good to see them get baked into iOS 18 as well. A concise summary of a web page that you've stumbled upon can give you a better idea of what an article is about, while a table of contents can help you more easily drill down to the parts of a topic that interest you.

The summarization tools in Reader appear to be limited to English in the initial iOS 18 release, though regional support is far more extensive. Besides the U.S., Apple promises availability in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the U.K.

Other Safari changes beyond the iPhone

Safari preview at WWDC 2024

Safari is available across Apple's different platforms, and there are some improvements coming to the web browser that are available for Safari on other devices. Specifically, Mac users who upgrade to macOS Sequoia will get a new way of watching web-based videos with a new Video Viewer that automatically detects when there's video on a page. Video Viewer breaks that out into a separate window with its own playback controls; click away, and the viewer becomes a separate picture-in-picture window.

Along with the Highlights and Reader additions, Safari on macOS Sequoia also promises performance improvements. In fact, Apple says the updated Mac version will be the world's fastest browser, with up to four hours more battery life than Google's Chrome browser on streaming video.

iOS 18 Safari outlook

Safari's seen more substantial changes in previous iOS updates, but that's not to dismiss the importance of what Apple's doing in iOS 18. With both Highlights and Reader leaning heavily on machine learning to power their new summary tools, iOS 18 Safari offers a taste of what Apple hopes to deliver throughout the iPhone, only without the stringent system requirements that the Apple Intelligence features demand.

Most popular browsers, including Chrome, update automatically in the background when you close the browser and open it again. However, if you haven’t done so in a while, you will see the word “ Update ” at the top right of your Chrome window. Simply click it, and you’re done.

Besides that, you can also follow these steps to ensure Chrome is updated on your Mac:

  • Open Chrome and press the  Command + comma (,)  keys.
  • Click  About Chrome  from the bottom left.
  • Select  Update Google Chrome .

Note:  If you don’t see the Update Google Chrome button, that means your browser is already up to date. In such cases, it will say “ Chrome is up to date ” and the version number.

This is how you can have the latest versions of web browsers on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Even if you use any other browser not mentioned in this post, the steps to update it should be almost identical.

Updating web browsers on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS

Third-party browsers on Mac do an excellent job and update themselves periodically in the background when you quit and reopen them. This ensures a safe browsing experience with little to no manual labor.

Similarly, if you enable auto app updates on your iPhone or iPad, your third-party browsers will stay up to date with all the new features and security updates.

However, the trouble starts with keeping Safari updated , as its updates are handled by updating the entire operating system – iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Compared to regular app updates, full software updates take a lot of time to download and install. Not to forget, your device is unusable when the update is being installed. Plus, some people who have limited or slow internet connection or little free space may not bother to update their operating systems as regularly.

Still, to ensure Safari is always up to date, you can enable a setting that automatically updates your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Here’s how:

  • iOS and iPadOS:  Go to Settings > General > Software Update >  Automatic Updates  and enable  Download iOS Updates . Next, turn on  Install iOS Updates .
  • macOS:  Go to System Preferences > Software Update and check the box for  Automatically keep my Mac up to date . Click  Advanced  to get more control over downloading and installing macOS updates.

The rule in question – section 4.7 – was added to Apple's App Review Guidelines earlier this year and allows for some software, like video game emulators, to access and download content outside their designated container area. The latest review effectively acts as an exception to section 2.5.2 , which requires all apps to be self-contained and doesn't allow them to read or write data that introduces changes in functionality.

Chaoji Li, the developer of iDOS, said he was forced to re-submit his work for review of its suitability for the App Store after section 4.7 was added. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't think a rule designed for game emulators applies to his app.

update safari on my iphone

"[Apple has] decided that iDOS is not a retro game console, so the new rule is not applicable," Li wrote in an update to an earlier blog post last week. "They suggested I make changes and resubmit for review, but when I asked what changes I should make to be compliant, they had no idea, nor when I asked what a retro game console is."

UTM's developers reported a similar experience: they submitted a version of UTM that doesn't use "just in time" compiling to run on iOS without needing a device to be jailbroken, and did so when section 4.7 was added to the Review Guidelines. Apple’s reasons for rejecting the app were the same as those applied to iDOS.

"[Apple's] reasoning is that rule 4.7 … does NOT apply to UTM SE" because "'PC is not a console'," the developer wrote in a post on X. "We will adhere by Apple's content and policy decision because we believe UTM SE is a subpar experience and isn't worth fighting for."

Europe accuses Apple of preventing devs from telling users about world outside

Apple intelligence won't be available in europe because tim's terrified of watchdogs, how europe can force apple to support competition, european commission may be about to put the squeeze on apple for its app store rules.

UTM SE was also rejected from certification for third-party app stores in the EU , the developer said, based on section 2.5.2 because section 4.7 only applies to apps published in Apple's App Store.

Regardless, it seems possible Apple isn't being entirely consistent with its reasoning for the OS emulator ban. The rules concern apps being allowed to go outside their binary to fetch content that can alter their functionality – something both console games and OS applications are able to do.

Of course, there's an easy security argument to be made for why Apple doesn't want to allow users to emulate entire OSes on their iPhones. The iGiant has long opposed sideloaded apps and warned users not to use them on the grounds that any code Cupertino can't vet could carry security and privacy risks. An operating system is far more complex than a single app, and could introduce many more security issues.

We asked Apple to explain its rejection of the OS emulators and will update when/if we hear back.

Apple was also accused this week of violating the DMA by EU officials on grounds it hasn't complied with rules permitting app developers to steer users outside the App Store for purchases. ®

Updated to add on June 26, 2024:

UTM's developers told us that UTM SE was the only app they submitted. "Regular UTM requires entitlements that Apple does not provide to 3rd party iOS developers for JIT and so there is no way to submit it."

They added: "UTM SE will continue to be distributed in unsigned form for jailbreak users and owners of enterprise signing certificates and developer signing certificates."

How to update Safari on iPhone and iPad

From time to time, Apple releases new versions of Safari to support the latest iOS version. You should always keep your Safari browser updated for security purposes and because it just works better with new features and improvements. There is just one way to update the Safari browser on an iPhone or iPad.

One of the most used features of an iPhone is the web browser. The Safari web browser is fast, easy to use and easy to access on any iOS device. The Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad is simple, smart and fast. It adapts to the way you use the web, can handle the latest web standards, and offers great features like Reading List to save your page for later and Shared Links to see what others are reading. The latest version of Safari is also designed to work better with iCloud; it’s as if two browsers are better than one.

It is very important to Update Mac OS and Update safari on Mac for bug fixes. Also check if it is safe to Upgrade to the latest version of Mac OS .

Safari is the default browser on Apple devices and is used by billions of people. That makes it a popular target for hackers and scammers. When Apple releases an update to fix vulnerabilities in Safari, you should install the update as soon as possible to ensure that you’re using a secure version of the browser. You can update Safari manually or use Automatic Updates, which will keep your web browser up-to-date.

Steps to Update Safari on iPhone

Safari automatically updates with new features when you update your phone’s operating system. To update Safari browser on iPhone 8, iPhone, 11, iPhone X, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone SE and other Older iPhones follow the below steps:

  • Go to Settings
  • Open General

Settings srcset=

Steps to Update Safari on iPad (Air, Pro, Mini)

  • Plug your iPad Air, Pro, Mini into power.
  • Connect to a Wi-Fi network .
  • Open Settings > General,
  • Now tap on Software   Update .
  • If new software version is available, Tap Download and Install.
  • Enter Passcode and follow the instruction.

Update Safari on iPad Air, Pro, Mini

Your iPad Air, Pro, Mini Safari browser will be automatically updated to the newest version after the installation is complete.

Update Safari on Mac to the latest version (12.0.1)

Operating system software is designed to work best with the latest versions of its apps and services. Apple regularly releases new version of macOS, which includes Safari. However, it’s up to you to update your computer by installing the update.

  • Go to Apple menu  top left corner of your screen, Click on System Preferences .
  • Under System Preferences , click Software Update.
  • Install any updates or upgrades.
  • MacBook will now update the macOS and Safari version of your MacBook Air or Pro.

The latest version of Safari can help you browse the web faster. When you connect to the internet with your Mac, Safari checks for updates automatically by default. In certain situations, you can also manually check for updates. If a Safari update is available, it appears in Software Update, together with any other updates Apple provides for the macOS operating system.

Latest version of safari

Latest version of safari is the same as the latest iOS Version, which is iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1.

If you are using an older version of Safari, it’s time to update your browser immediately or face security threats.

This is a precautionary measure by Apple in order to protect users from potential malicious websites and phishing attacks that may be used by criminals to steal personal information such as credit card details and passwords from their victims.

Apple has also advised all users with devices running iOS 12 or earlier versions to update their Safari browsers immediately in order to secure their privacy and avoid being victimized by hackers who might use vulnerabilities in older versions of Safari for malicious purposes.

If you’re using any other browser than Safari then you don’t have to worry about this update because it doesn’t affect any other browser except Safari itself on all devices so you don’t have to worry about other web browsers not receiving updates or support after this one because they will be still receiving updates or support like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or others.

Why to Update Safari browser on iPhone or iPad?

You probably already know that Apple releases new iPhone software updates regularly. But did you know that regular Safari browser updates are also available right from your iPhone or iPad? This means that you get more privacy and security along with improvements to the speed and responsiveness of the Safari browser itself.

The Safari browser on your iPhone and iPad is designed based on the latest technologies to give you the best web browsing experience. Over time, bugs may be fixed, improvements may be made, and new features will be added. To get these improvements, you need to update your browser.

Does Safari update automatically on iPhone?

Simply stated, Safari is only updated with iOS updates. The reason why the newest version of Safari isn’t automatically updated on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is because the update is tied to iOS. You can only update Safari when you update your OS X or iOS.

Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your product’s security. Apple releases patches, or updates, for its product software to address issues discovered since the initial release of software and to fix issues that affect compatibility and other features are found in current versions.

Apple releases software updates to fix bugs, improve security, and add new features. And staying up to date is important because there are over one million iOS apps in the App Store, many of which use your operating system’s software as a foundation for their features and functions. Running an outdated version of iOS increases the risk that you could encounter an issue on your device that you can’t successfully troubleshoot.

How often is Safari updated?

Because Safari is part of macOS and iOS you don’t need to install separate updates. Updates occur in the Mac App Store or iOS and include the most recent version of WebKit. If you’re using a Mac and have automatic software updates turned on you’ll always have the most recent version of the Safari browser.

iOS 15.3.1 Update

Would you like to update? I have a new update for you. Today, Apple released iOS 15.3.1. This is only a minor update connected to the used one before. Easy to navigate and use is the main idea behind this new version. Say goodbye to iOS bugs and ensure you are secured against malware and other vulnerabilities that can harm you or your device.

iOS System Data bug stealing your iPhone storage? Here are 5 solutions [U]

Avatar for Michael Potuck

There’s been an iOS bug for years that gobbles up a big percentage of an iPhone’s available storage. The issue persists in iOS 17.5.1 (and beyond) but fortunately, there are solutions that don’t involve wiping your iPhone. Here’s how to fix the iPhone System Data storage bug.

Update 6/25/24: Bugs are normal for betas, but we’ve noticed the System Data issue remains with the second iOS 18 beta. My iPhone System Data use jumped up from 8 to 35 GB while one of my teammates’ usage rocketed up to 140 GB.

Across Apple’s Community forums , Reddit , and more, iOS users have complained about the iPhone System Data storage bug for years (some reports date back to iOS 13). I haven’t had trouble with the bug until iOS 17.3-17.5 where I’ve seen up to 60 GB of storage eaten up by iOS System Data.

And it’s not just a reporting bug, the storage used by System Data is unusable. Unlike the cache in individual iOS apps or Apple apps like Safari, there’s no button to quickly empty System Data. Here’s how Apple describes what it’s used for:

System Data includes caches, logs and other resources currently in use by the system. This value will fluctuate according to system needs.

Apple hasn’t offered an official solution to the problem, but there are several ways to resolve the issue. We’ll start from the simplest and quickest option to more involved tactics.

How to fix the iPhone System Data storage bug

You can see how much storage System Data is using on your iPhone by heading to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Go to the very bottom > System Data

  • Head back to iPhone Storage > System Data to see if that’s helped
  • This alone has worked to reduce my System Data by over 50 GB (but sometimes in days or weeks it will inflate again with further restarts helping)
  • Head to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages > 1 year or 30 Days
  • Some users report having success with deleting and reinstalling Apple TV to clear the cache and doing the same with apps like Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Slack, etc.
  • Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data (note: this impacts any sites you were logged into, etc.)
  • Via Reddit user Vertsix , there is a more complex “date trick” that seems to work reliably to purge iOS System Data – make sure to follow the steps as described to avoid losing iMessages in the process

iPhone System Data storage bug fix walkthrough

Above is my before and after power cycling my iPhone – 60.58 GB to 8GB usage for System Data.

Have you seen this issue? Just notice it for the first time after checking your settings? Share your experience in the comments!

how-do-i-update-my-browser-on-my-iphone

Introduction

With the rapid advancement of technology, keeping your iPhone’s browser up to date is essential for a seamless browsing experience. Updating your browser not only ensures improved performance and speed, but also enhances security and compatibility with the latest web technologies. Whether you use Safari, Google Chrome, or Firefox as your preferred browser on your iPhone, regular updates provide access to new features and bug fixes.

In this article, we will guide you through the process of updating your browser on your iPhone. We will cover the steps for updating Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox, three of the most popular browsers available for iOS devices. Additionally, we will provide some troubleshooting tips for common issues that may arise during the update process.

By keeping your browser up to date, you can enjoy a better browsing experience, access the latest web features, and maintain a secure digital environment on your iPhone. Now, let’s dive into the details of checking and updating your browser.

Understanding the Importance of Updating Your Browser

Updating your browser is not just about getting the latest design or interface. It plays a crucial role in delivering a secure and efficient browsing experience on your iPhone. Here are some key reasons why updating your browser is important:

  • Security: Browser updates often include important security patches and fixes that protect your device from potential vulnerabilities. Cyber threats and malicious attacks are constantly evolving, making it essential to stay ahead with the latest browser updates that address these security issues.
  • Performance and Speed: Outdated browsers can become slow and may struggle to handle modern websites and applications. By updating your browser, you can take advantage of performance enhancements and optimizations, ensuring a smooth and faster browsing experience on your iPhone.
  • Compatibility: Websites and web technologies are continually evolving. By updating your browser, you ensure compatibility with the latest HTML, CSS, and JavaScript standards. This ensures that you can access all the features and functionality of modern websites without any limitations or rendering issues.
  • New Features: Browser updates often introduce new features and improvements that enhance your overall browsing experience. These features can range from improved user interfaces to advanced privacy settings to better integration with other apps and services.
  • Bug Fixes: Like any software, browsers can have bugs that can affect their functionality. Regular updates address these bugs and provide fixes, ensuring a more stable and reliable browsing experience on your iPhone.

By understanding the importance of keeping your browser up to date, you can ensure a more secure, efficient, and enjoyable browsing experience on your iPhone. Now that we have grasped why updating your browser is crucial, let’s move on to checking the current version of your browser.

Checking the Current Version of Your Browser

Before proceeding with the update, it is essential to check the current version of your browser to determine if an update is needed. Here’s how you can check the version of Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox on your iPhone:

  • Safari: Open the Safari browser on your iPhone and tap the address bar at the top. Then, type “about:blank” (without quotes) and tap enter. Next, press and hold the refresh button in the address bar until the “Request Desktop Site” option appears. Once it appears, release the refresh button. You will now see the current version of Safari at the bottom of the screen.
  • Google Chrome: Launch the Google Chrome app on your iPhone and tap the three-dot menu icon in the bottom toolbar. From the menu that appears, select “Settings.” Scroll down and tap on “About Chrome.” Here, you will find the current version number of Google Chrome installed on your device.
  • Firefox: Open the Firefox app on your iPhone and tap the three-line menu icon in the bottom right corner. From the menu, select “Settings.” Then, tap on “About Firefox” under the “Help & Feedback” section. The current version of Firefox installed on your iPhone will be displayed.

By following these steps, you can quickly determine the current version of your browser. If you find that you have an outdated version, it is recommended to proceed with the update to ensure you have the latest features, security patches, and bug fixes. In the next sections, we will provide instructions on how to update each of these browsers on your iPhone.

Updating Safari on Your iPhone

Safari is the default browser on your iPhone, and updating it is a straightforward process. Here’s how you can update Safari:

  • Open the App Store on your iPhone by tapping the App Store icon on the home screen.
  • In the bottom right corner, tap on the “Updates” tab.
  • If an update for Safari is available, you will see it listed in the available updates. Look for “Safari” and tap the “Update” button next to it.
  • If prompted, enter your Apple ID password or use Touch ID/Face ID to authenticate the update.
  • The update will begin downloading and installing. Once complete, you will have the latest version of Safari installed on your iPhone.

It’s important to note that Safari updates are typically bundled together with iOS updates, so it’s a good practice to regularly check for and install system updates on your iPhone.

By keeping Safari updated, you ensure that you have the latest security enhancements, performance improvements, and compatibility with the latest web technologies. Now, let’s move on to updating Google Chrome on your iPhone.

Updating Google Chrome on Your iPhone

If you use Google Chrome as your preferred browser on your iPhone, it’s important to keep it updated to benefit from the latest features and improvements. To update Google Chrome on your iPhone, follow these steps:

  • If there is an available update for Google Chrome, you will see it listed in the available updates. Look for “Google Chrome” and tap the “Update” button next to it.
  • The update will begin downloading and installing on your iPhone.

Once the update is complete, you will have the latest version of Google Chrome installed on your iPhone, ensuring improved performance, security, and compatibility with the latest web technologies.

It’s worth noting that Google Chrome updates are separate from iOS updates, so even if you have the latest version of iOS installed on your iPhone, you still need to update Google Chrome separately through the App Store.

Now that you know how to update Google Chrome, let’s move on to updating Firefox on your iPhone.

Updating Firefox on Your iPhone

For those who prefer Firefox as their browser on the iPhone, it’s crucial to keep it updated to enjoy the latest features and security enhancements. Follow the steps below to update Firefox on your iPhone:

  • Launch the App Store on your iPhone by tapping on the App Store icon on the home screen.
  • If there is an available update for Firefox, you will find it listed among the available updates. Look for “Firefox” and tap the “Update” button located next to it.

Once the update process is complete, you will have the latest version of Firefox installed on your iPhone. This ensures that you can experience improved performance, security enhancements, and have access to the latest features offered by Firefox.

Just like Google Chrome, Firefox updates are separate from iOS updates. Therefore, even if you have the latest version of iOS installed on your iPhone, you need to update Firefox independently through the App Store.

Now that you know how to update Firefox, let’s explore some common issues that may occur during the browser update process and provide troubleshooting tips to help you resolve them.

Troubleshooting Common Issues During Browser Updates

While updating your browser on your iPhone is usually a smooth process, you may encounter some common issues along the way. Here are a few troubleshooting tips to help you resolve them:

1. Slow or stuck update: If the update seems to be taking a long time or appears stuck, try closing the App Store or force-closing it from the app switcher. Then, relaunch the App Store and check if the update resumes or if you can start it again.

2. Insufficient storage: If you receive a message indicating that there is not enough storage to complete the update, you can free up space on your iPhone by deleting unnecessary apps, photos, or files. You can also use iCloud or other cloud storage services to back up and offload files temporarily.

3. Wi-Fi or network issues: Ensure that your iPhone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network or a reliable cellular data connection. Slow or unstable internet connections can cause update failures or delays.

4. App freeze or crash after update: If your browser app freezes or crashes after the update, try force-closing the app and relaunching it. If the problem persists, you may need to reinstall the app entirely from the App Store.

5. Clear cache and data: If you experience persistent issues after the update, clearing the browser’s cache and data can often resolve them. You can do this by going to the Settings app on your iPhone, selecting the browser app, and choosing the option to clear cache and data.

If none of these troubleshooting steps solve your issue, consider reaching out to the browser’s support team for further assistance or consult online forums for possible solutions.

Troubleshooting, macos sequoia 15 beta 2 available to download.

MacOS Sequoia beta 2

MacOS Sequoia beta 2 has been released for users participating in the MacOS Sequoia 15 beta program for Apple Developers.

Technically speaking, anyone can enroll in the dev program and install MacOS Sequoia beta , but due to the nature of beta system software that is not advised for anyone who is not an advanced user or developer.

MacOS Sequoia 15 beta includes iPhone mirroring (assuming the iPhone is running iOS 18 beta as well), and has other new features like improved window tiling, dedicated Passwords app, AI Apple Intelligence features, changes to Safari and Photos app, and more.

Separately, iOS 18 beta 2, iPadOS 18 beta 2 , watchOS 11 beta 2, tvOS 18 beta 2, and visionOS 2 beta 2, are also available for developers to test.

How to Download & Install MacOS Sequoia 15 Beta 2

As always, you’ll want to backup your Mac with Time Machine prior to beginning any system software update, even beta updates.

  • Go to the  Apple menu and choose “System Settings”
  • Choose “General”
  • Choose “Software Update”

MacOS Sequoia beta 2

You’ll need to restart the Mac to finish installation of the latest beta.

*Note that some users are not yet seeing the MacOS Sequoia beta 2 update available yet, you might try refreshing the software update screen if so.

MacOS Sequoia Beta 2 Download Not Showing? Try This

If the download for MacOS Sequoia Beta 2 is not showing up in Software Update after you have tried refreshing the preference panel, open the Terminal and execute the following command:

softwareupdate --download --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.0

Hit return, and this will download the full installer for the latest beta version of MacOS Sequoia (currently beta 2). The installer will appear in the /Applications folder when the download has complete.

macOS Sequoia 15 Beta 2 Installer Direct Download Link & IPSW File

Users can also download the package installer for Sequoia beta 2, or the IPSW file for MacOS Sequoia beta 2, directly from Apple:

  • MacOS Sequoia 15 Developer Beta 2 InstallAssistant.pkg
  • MacOS Sequoia developer beta 2 IPSW

These files may be useful for advanced users who are looking to install MacOS Seqouia betas into a virtual machine, onto multiple Macs, restore Macs, create boot disks, and more.

Speaking of virtual machines, if you’re having trouble getting Sequoia beta to install into a VM, make sure you follow this trick to resolve that issue by installing the Xcode 16 beta onto the host Mac beforehand.

Safari not working after IOS-17 update on iPhone XR

I have recently experienced problems with Safari on an iPhone SE. After connecting to a webpage and choosing to go to the next level, Safari would hesitate and then jump back to the Home Screen.

I have exchanged the iPhone SE for an iPhone XR and moved all apps and data to the XR device. In the process of initializing the XR, I was prompted to update the software to IOS-17, without a bypass option.

After the software update and data/app transfer from the iPhone SE, the XR phone seems to work fine except for Safari. Each time I select the Safari app, a white screen will appear for several seconds and then the phone will revert back to the Home Screen . I am currently using the Google Chrome browser without issue.

Suggestions on how to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

In regards to Safari not working on iPhone XR after 17.2 update, had 2 hour session with Apple support and they could not resolve the problem. Apple support said they would issue an update to fix the problem. Apple did not indicate when the update would be available.

My problem is not just Safari. After the IOS 17 update, the entire phone goes into a non functional state periodically. I just tried to go into settings to view something and it froze, some apps freeze, safari is non responsive etc. I have to restart my phone multiple times a day and when settings is unresponsive, I have to do a hard restart. None of this was an issue before the update. Battery is life is suddenly a joke. Even something as simple as a phone call, I phone someone and they answer, I can't hear them. Other people phone me and I can't hear them. When I restart the phone and make the call everything works fine and same for receiving calls. I also get like batched functionality. To explain, my phone will be quiet for hours, which is strange as I am a businessman that constantly receive calls and texts on different platforms, then all of a sudden I get hundreds of notifications showing calls missed, texts sent hours before etc. etc. The phone seems to get hot as well more often. Is this Apple's way of forcing an upgrade by drowning older phones with software that it can't handle or is this truly a mistake that they need to rectify? I moved from Android to Apple, because of the consistency in performance and reliability, but if this is going to be the case, then Apple can kiss my business good bye.

Thanks to anyone that is reviewing my post or having similar problems. I just watched a YouTube video on the subject by Trevor Nance. One of his suggestions was to Clear History and Website Data under Safari in Settings. I thought I had already done the History delete but perhaps not the Website Data. Once done, Safari started working.

Hopes this helps someone else.

Same thing happened to me several months ago. Was never fixed!

Feb 20, 2024 1:59 PM in response to BobC38

iPhone 13 mini and iPad Pro 2020, similar problems on both. I can’t go back a page, or Safari will just reload the page I’m trying to leave. I have to close the tab and start a new one. This happens constantly, I essentially can’t go to more than one page per tab or use search, I have to close it and start a new one. It gets weirdly hot sometimes, loading seems slow and error-prone… it’s a mess.

I too deleted safari history and websites on my iPhone 11 after experiencing problems with safari after updating to iOS 17.2.1. It didn’t solve my problems. Any other suggestions?

I was having the same problem with Safari pages not loading on my iPhone 11 after the last IOS17 update. I deleted all history and restarted - problem solved

I finally fixed mine by deleting safari from my screen. It’s still in the library. Not sure why this works.

I finally got Safari working again. Deleted all history AGAIN and closed all open tabs. This time it worked. Hooray!

Mar 9, 2024 4:40 PM in response to BobC38

i gave up on safari. I would fix it but then it would stop working. I downloaded Google chrome. I made that my default and now i have no problems.
