What people say about our tours

tripadvisor certificate

First, we went to Dubrovnik since we are huge Game Of Thrones fans and then we visited Montenegro this august and we are so happy we had Miro from Miro and Sons to show us around. He was such a nice gentleman full of knowledge and passion for his country. We learned so much and the best of all now we have friends in Montenegro!!

Magdalena K.

My wife and I spent a week in Montenegro and booked a few tours with Miro and Sons. All of the tours were amazing with beautiful views and we learned a lot from our tour guide, Stefan! We loved his passion and his knowledge of this part of the world! This was a great choice and we would recommend this travel agency to anyone visiting Montenegro!

Really nice hospitality and a really good offer. We first visited Herceg Novi but decided to stay longer in Kotor. I would recommend it to everyone. The tours are good, and the guides are very knowledgeable. For wintertime, it was great, and the guys helped us to find a place for nightlife.

What people love about kotor tours.

Excellent tour, our guide Ergys was very friendly, well informed and professional throughout, budwa and kotor both are fairytale places. Recommend this tour 10/10
What a wonderful way to see Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia. Small group meant we could customize as we went, and make stops whenever - it was like traveling with friends. Amazing scenery! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Ana and Serge went above and beyond with the tour. We totally loved every aspect including their knowledge of the area and best places to buy. They were a lovely couple who ensured that all our needs were met. The vehicle for the tour was perfect - new and roomy. Unfortunately the second day tour which included a cave tour was unfortunately closed due to a death. That limited our experience but we enjoyed viewing the landscape and various border crossings. The hotel in Trebinje would normally be lovely except we were put in the last room #309 - an attic without windows and A/C that was set at 25 degrees and hotter than reasonable. The included breakfast in the hotel was lovely except if you are vegetarian or vegan.

Best Walking Tours of Kotor, Montenegro

Wondering what to do in Kotor?

A Kotor walking tour is an excellent way to get to know this charming and picturesque town in the Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

There’s so much history, culture and heritage contained within these ancient walls, a Kotor walking tour is a must if you want to get the most out of your visit to Montenegro’s extraordinary walled city.

I visited Kotor dozens of times before I finally did a walking tour of the old town. And when I did, I was amazed at how much I didn't know!  It's well worth investing an hour or two of your stay to explore Kotor with a guide.

In as little as an hour, a Kotor walking tour will give you a great insight into this medieval town. 5 Best Walking Tours of Kotor, Montenegro

1. kotor walk tour.

St Luke's Church Kotor Unsplash

RATING: 5 / 5 (11+ reviews) | TOUR LENGTH: 1.5 hours | BOOK NOW

This group tour takes 1 ½ hours and visits all the top sights in Kotor old town. Unlike shorter tours, it includes a guided tour of 9th century St Tryphon Cathedral, which is one of the top sights in Kotor and well worth visiting.

It also includes a complimentary charcoal coffee experience - this is the only place in the world you can try this kind of coffee!

"I picked the private tour and my guide, Radosav, was very good. He patiently answered all my questions, gave me some useful tips and even walked me to the only vegan restaurant in Kotor. The tour was just the right duration - not too long and not too short - and was a great way to start my holiday in Kotor. As a local, Radosav gave me some insight into what it's like to live in Kotor and he didnt just rattle off history/facts like most guides do. This felt more like a walk around Kotor with a friend. I recommend doing a private tour because some of the group tours I saw had very large groups. And if you can, ask for Radosav!" - Rohan V. ( read more reviews )

2. Private Tour of Kotor

Best Walking Tours of Kotor, Montenegro

RATING:  5 / 5 (28+ reviews) | TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours | BOOK NOW

This tour is a 2-hour journey through Kotor's 2,000 year history' with one of Montenegro's top guides, Ana Badnjar. It includes guided visits to St Tryphon Cathedral and the Maritime Museum, during which you can learn about Kotor's role as an important trade hub for the whole Mediterranean.

You can also customize this tour to add in any other interesting sights you'd like to see, for example Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks. Ana's has many more popular tour itineraries that include visits to wineries, olive mills and on speed boats. You can see her selection of itineraries on this page .

"Ana was a joy to spend the day with. She was friendly, conversational, fun, professional, and we really felt cared for. She had excellent knowledge of the history of Montenegro and Kotor, and geared the tour to our wishes. Ana's English is highly proficient, and she has a wonderful personality. We're hoping to hire her on our next trip to Montenegro - which I hope is quite soon!" - Holly B., United States

3. Kotor Private Walking Tour with WIne and Food Tasting

Best Walking Tours of Kotor, Montenegro

RATING:  5 / 5 (15+ reviews) | TOUR LENGTH:  2 hours | BOOK NOW

This gives you the chance not only to discover Kotor's beautiful old town, but also to try traditional Montenegrin cuisine.

The tour starts with a 1-hour walking tour of Kotor old town. It also includes a visit to Kotor's open-air market. Kotor's market has been popular since the town was an important trade port. Today, the farmers market is still the best place to buy local produce like figs, olives and fish.

This tour ends with a chat with your guide over a delicious platter of cured meats and cheeses paired with Montenegrin wines. Traditionally, this kind of platter is served to guests in Montenegro as a sign of respect and welcome.

"The tour was incredible, very informative, interactive and interesting. Enjoyed every moment and the food tasting of the local cuisine was fun and delicious. Bogdan the guide was amazing, knew every bit of the area, very knowledgeable, smart and funny. Highly recommended if you don’t have much time to spend and want a short but to the point." - Saar Ben, Israel ( read more reviews )

4. KOTOR: OLD TOWN 1-HOUR PRIVATE WALKING TOUR

7 Best Kotor Walking Tours You Can't Miss

RATING: 4.8 / 5 (71+ reviews) | TOUR LENGTH: 1 hour | BOOK NOW

This 1-hour private tour is the tour featured in my video above. It takes you around the highlights of Kotor in just an hour and it's perfect if you only have a few hours to spend in the town.

On the tour you'll see the main sights but you don't go inside them. This leaves you the freedom to come back and visit the ones you want to see if you have time. Even if you don't go inside any of the attractions you still get a great overview of the history of Kotor and you see the most important and beautiful places in the old town.

"Very interesting tour of the old town. Lots of information about the buildings and the history. Something about Montenegro

Montenegro (Black Mountain is the dramatic title in English) is one of the smallest countries in Europe – and one of the oldest! Situated on the western flank of the Balkan peninsula, our country has an area of just 13,612 sq. km (5255 sq. miles) and a population of 625.000 people. Montenegro has huge, rugged mountains (dotted with ski resorts), Adriatic beaches that are among the best in the world, glacial lakes, deep canyons, remarkable Mediterranean “Blue Caves” and medieval towns, fortresses and churches all steeped in fascinating, and at times turbulent, history. The mountains plunge almost vertically into fjord-like Kotor Bay and sailing into the bay is an unforgettable highlight of most Mediterranean cruises these days. This surreal journey leaves every passenger stunned into awed silence as their huge ship edges through the bay’s impossibly narrow entry and glides under towering cliffs so close you feel you could reach and touch them.   While the scenery is exhilarating, so much of the real Montenegro experience lies beneath the surface – in its culture and fascinating history. For that experience, you’ll need to go exploring with a local, professional and friendly guide… and we are pleased to be at your service.

  • Montenegro is the smallest country in the world to ever qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup (China, 2019).
  • Local folklore has it that when God created the world he forgot to give Montenegrins some land… so He gave them the land He had saved for himself!

The first book ever printed in the cyrillic language was printed in 1453 in Montenegro’s former Royal Capital, Cetinje.

We want your visit to be the amazing experience you deserve. We want you to take home great memories that you’ll want to share with friends and family.  So, please, a small word of caution: be aware of sham agencies, fake tour guides and taxi services illegally offering tours. Unfortunately they are too easily encountered today, especially on-line, despite the best efforts to stop them with regular, random licence checks, inspections and heavy penalties.

Only licensed, registered tour operators can offer travel and guiding services in our country.

Please check carefully that your guide and/or the agency they work with is properly licensed (guides are required by law to wear their licence at all times). You can check any agency or guide’s credentials on-line at the Ministry for Sustainable Development and Tourism ( http://www.ctr.mrt.gov.me/Portal/faces/master.jspx?_adf.ctrl-state=18oumsntcd_4) or just ask to see their licence.

Illegal operators undermine our visitor industry, leaving visitors disappointed and upset (for example, when they fail a random inspection and the tour has to be abandoned).

You deserve the best, our country deserves the best – don’t be discouraged, just please be cautious and…

Let’s go exploring!

Virgin Voyages' guide to Kotor, Montenegro

Where Europe’s southernmost fjord enters the east.

A river canyon’s medieval maze

While Kotor’s history is steeped in medieval lore, its past extends all the way back to both ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Like the age of a vintage Hollywood starlet, an exact date to the city’s origins is impossible to pinpoint, but with the 12th-14th centuries being widely accepted as the golden age of Montenegro’s development, this is probably a good starting place to fix your mind upon entering the city’s renowned gates.

Shore Excursions

Rugged beauty to refined luster

Morning sailing — our lady of the rocks.

In the morning, explore Montenegro's rugged shoreline and charming coastal villages on a catamaran. Sail over to one of Kotor's greatest highlights, Our Lady of the Rocks, the tiny islet said to be built around a rock where an image of the Madonna was found in 1452 — locals pay tribute every year by bringing over a stone. With sweeping views of this historical gem, you'll sail into a secluded bay where the boat will drop anchor for you to take a dip in the Adriatic sea.

Lovcen Hills ATV Safari

Feel the thrills of driving an ATV on a one-of-a-kind adventure through Montenegro's wooded valleys and remote areas, starting at the bottom of Lovcen National Park. Drive on steep asphalt streets, take it off-road, zoom along the coast, and ride over the rugged hills on a scenic trail that reaches 1,380 feet above sea level. At the end of the ride, it will be hard to tell what took your breath away — the epic views over Kotor or the hairpin turns along the way.

Underground Hanger Wine Experience

Visiting the Šipčanik Wine Cellar is a must for any wine lover and history buff. Set in a secret Yugoslav-era underground aircraft hangar partially destroyed by a NATO bombing in 1999, the revamped hangar is now a majestic, 75,347 ft2 wine cellar operated by Plantaže where two million liters of wine are left to age. See the largest single vineyard in Europe from above before going 98 ft underground for a one-of-a-kind, expert-led wine tasting experience and divine lunch.
