David Guetta is a French dance-pop DJ and producer who has sold over 15 million singles worldwide. Guetta learned and perfected his craft in Paris nightclubs throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

DJing professionally from the age of 18, and after spending years on the French club scene wowing crowds and winning fans, David Guetta formed Gum Productions in 2001 in partnership with DJ and producer Joachim Garraud. He subsequently released his first hit single “Just A Little More Love” which charted across Europe. The success of this single afforded Guetta the opportunity to release his debut album of the same name on the Virgin Records Label.

Two studio albums later, David Guetta began to find some success within the UK and across mainland Europe with the release of his album “Pop Life”. But it was his 2009 album “One Love” which bought him international success with singles “When Love Takes Over” and “Sexy Bitch” storming the charts worldwide.

The success of Guetta’s collaborations with Kelly Rowland and Akon on “One Love” paved the way for a mountain of collaborations for his fifth studio album “Nothing but the Beat” which features Nicki Minaj, Sia, Snoop Dogg and Taio Cruz, amongst others. The album hit the number one spot in the UK and reached number five in the US, with “Where Them Girls At” and “Titanium” performing well in the US and beyond.

David Guetta has toured all over the world – both on solo stints and alongside Rihanna in 2013. He has literally travelled over a million miles to bring his dance anthems to all four corners of the globe, and is known for releasing the party animal in his fans.

With two Grammys already under his belt and a strong legion of fans from across the globe, David Guetta’s fame and success will continue to balloon. It is without doubt a success produced of hard work, and is more than deserved.

Live reviews

The man behind some of the biggest anthems of the past few years, David Guetta is probably the best of his kind.

Previously not a house music fan, my mind was changed after a friend bought me a ticket to see David Guetta at Alexandra Palace in 2012. Reluctantly I went along, little did I know that after a 3 hour set, I would be converted forever!

Opening with ‘Titanium’ and following up with by blasting out hits like ‘When Love Takes Over’, ‘Sweat’ and ‘Wild Ones’, the crowd were sent into a frenzy as the energy in the room just kept on rising.

Clearly displaying why he is so respected by fellow DJs and artists alike, it may sound cheesy, but it really seemed like this is what David Guetta was born to do, as his permanent smile revealed just how much he was enjoying every minute. Huge production, made up of fireworks and confetti cannons, made the show even better.

It has always astounded me how DJs are able to sell out arenas, even stadiums in some parts of the world. The secret is in the infectiousness of their beats, something the David Guetta has perfected, making him one of the best. He has definitely converted me into a lifelong house music fan.

One of the biggest names in dance music has collaborated with a huge string of stars of the past decade to create some momentous world-wide hits. Now the French DJ has collated these into one massive live show where he drops in some of his personal favourite dance/pop records from a variety of eras.

You cannot fault David's charisma when playing to a live crowd, he visibly enjoys what he does as the more energy the crowd give the more animated Guetta becomes within his DJ box. As he drops the likes of 'Shot Me Down' and 'Titanium' he hypes the crowd further by dancing along with the masses.

His sets often feature numerous tracks from a variety of genres, recently he has been known to spin hits from Iggy Azeala, Linkin Park, Bastille, Hozier and Oasis. It is fair to say there is something for almost everyone during Guetta's set and you assured to dance along to at least one piece of music during sets that often last for 30 songs or more.

Usually finishing with 'Sexy Bitch' or 'Dangerous', the smile on David's face mimics the audience as he feels assured he has played a great show.

I have fun of my life everything was perfect

David Guetta was wonderful as always but also before him the others DJs were very good too and Songkick is so good for, because they keep noticing us about it very often and we brought the tickets there and very safe and in two to three days we received our tickets. No better app out there better than Songkick so I wanna thank you so much from the bottom of my heart

David Guetta is a French DJ and record producer, he was born on November 7, 1967, in Paris, France, where he was raised and started his career in 1984. He and Sidney made a single "Nation Rap" in 1990.

He is one of my favorite artists, and I love him as a DJ and I am so excited to be his biggest fan on earth.

It was just amazing, perfect show, with amazing lights effects and a perfect set !

The first part was really cool too.

Everything in the Halle Tony Garnier was cool, well organized and easy. No wait to enter, and no wait too to exit !

I’ve been to over 20+ shows this year and David Guetta was the worst. He started off great and absolutely downhilled and plateaued. Many people started leaving and the venue also oversold tickets. Waaaaaay too crowded.

Loved the show and music, but got the feeling that David was not "living in the moment"

It was a dream come true to see David, and i loved it. But if he were to get ant better he should take in more guest artists

David Guetta's Stacked '7' Tracklist Commences Countdown To New Album

With names like Bieber, Sia, Derulo, Minaj, Rexha, and more, the GRAMMY winner's upcoming album is filled with landmark collaborations and next-gen stars

Long in the business of exceeding expectations, EDM super-artist David Guetta has announced the tracklist for his upcoming album 7 , and the vista of the album's lineup is breathtaking. Due out Sept. 14, 7 is bound to excite. Let's take a closer look, track-by-track.

<iframe width="620" height="349" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XeKoCLVXKNo" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

7 leads off with "Don't Leave Me Alone" featuring Anne-Marie, who has been opening for Ed Sheeran this summer. Its official video was released Aug. 20, but we wrote about the lyric video when it surfaced late last month and that's already racked up more than 24 million YouTube views. The second track is "Battle" featuring the less-known up-and-comer Faouzia, winner of last year's Unsigned Only competition.

Third up in this more-than-a-showcase is GRAMMY nominee Sia 's collaboration on "Flames." "Anything she does, I love," said Guetta in our exclusive interview . "It's almost hard for me not to like anything that she's singing." The lyric video was a hot appetizer and its official video took the action over the top. It's followed on 7 by "Blame It On Love" with Madison Beer, and fifth on the list is "Say My Name," Guetta's collaboration with J Balvin, who has been nominated for many Latin GRAMMY Awards, and Bebe Rexha. Such great talents in a mix that's bound to spark stamina for more to come.

<iframe width="620" height="349" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/J75enyWdbBM" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Position six is Guetta's collaboration "Goodbye" with Jason Derulo, to be released on Aug. 24, featuring Nicki Minaj and Willy William. It's followed in auspicious position seven on 7 by "I'm That Bitch" with rapper Saweetie. Next stop is the "Like I Do" collaboration with Martin Garrix and Brooks, which was released in Feb. — the lyric video for that has already topped 78 million YouTube views.

<iframe width="620" height="349" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3X3xtRNb20s" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Rounding out the single-digit slots at position nine is "2U" in collaboration with GRAMMY winner Justin Bieber . That track made it to No. 16 on Billboard 's Hot 100 last year. GRAMMY winner Jess Glynne and Stefflon Don are featured on Guetta's tenth track "She Knows How To Love Me." Next up with two GRAMMY nominated artists is the "Motto" collaboration with Steve Aoki featuring Lil Uzi Vert , G-Eazy and Mally Mall.

The final four on this 15-track spectacular begins with "Drive" — out on Aug. 24th — in collaboration with Black Coffee and featuring Delilah Montagu. Lucky thirteenth is a Spanish-language track featuring J Balvin titled "Para Que Te Quedes." It means "for you to stay" and this track lineup is keeping us glued. Up-and-comer Ava Max is featured on the penultimate "Let It Be Me" and then the finale is another collabo with Sia titled "Light Headed." Not everyone might feel light-headed here, but this tour is talent-packed enough to be tiring if it weren't so inspiring. This will be fun.

David Guetta's album 7 is available for pre-order now and tomorrow, as mentioned above, "Drive" and "Goodbye" will arrive. It is certainly part of the power of EDM that it provides a platform for artistic talent to combine with unexpected energy, like particles in an accelerator. It's not like it's really the big bang but this is a great look at what's new and we expect 7 to deliver more dance-tacular booms to come.

New Music Friday: Listen To New Songs From ATEEZ & G-Eazy, Shawn Mendes, Latto, & More

Check out some of the new music that dropped on Aug. 9, from Elvis' hometown recordings to Katy Perry's latest bop.

As August temperatures remain hot, so does the new music. With fresh tracks spanning all genres from dance to rap, there's plenty to explore this New Music Friday.

Check out albums like NIKI's Buzz , Logic 's Ultra 85 , and Little Big Town 's Greatest Hits , as well as first tastes of forthcoming projects from Kelsea Ballerini , Katy Perry and Leon Bridges . Plus, there's plenty more new songs from the likes of The Kid LAROI and beabadoobee, as well as thrilling collabs from ATEEZ and G-Eazy, and J Balvin and Feid.

No matter what genre you gravitate towards, there's something new to discover. Be sure to check out these 10 musical offerings before you kick off your weekend.

Shawn Mendes — "Why, Why, Why" & "Isn't That Enough"

Just hours before New Music Friday hit, Shawn Mendes celebrated his 26th birthday with a gift to his fans: not one, but two new songs.

The first taste of his upcoming fifth studio album, Shawn , the two tracks — "Why, Why, Why" and "Isn't That Enough" — present a folkier side of Mendes' musicality, leaning into the acoustic sound of his early music but with an indie flair. Mendes also released the official video for "Why Why Why," which sees shots of the singer playing his guitar in nature transposed with footage of him performing on stage.

In celebration of the release, Mendes played an intimate show at Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, New York, performing Shawn in its entirety two full months before its Oct. 18 arrival. He'll play five more full-album shows: London, U.K. on Aug. 13, Nashville, Tenn. on Oct. 14, Brooklyn, New York on Oct. 18, Los Angeles on Oct. 22, and Seattle on Oct. 24.

Clean Bandit, Anne-Marie, and David Guetta — "Cry Baby"

After scoring hits with Clean Bandit and David Guetta respectively, Anne-Marie brings them both together for another vibrant, upbeat electronic anthem. "Cry Baby" takes inspiration from early 2010s dance music, reminiscent of the era when the genre dominated the airwaves.

Featuring a haunting whistle hook and Anne-Marie's powerful vocals layered over pulsing instrumentals from the dance giants, "Cry Baby" is a powerhouse collaboration showcasing some of the best talents in electronic music.

Polo G — 'Hood Poet'

Three years after 2021's Hall of Fame , Polo G is back with his fourth studio album, Hood Poet . The album was shelved for over a year due to outstanding circumstances, but it's finally here, and rap fans couldn't be more hyped.

The four singles that teased the project include "Barely Holdin' On," "Distraction," "Angels In The Sky," and "We Uh Shoot," featuring Lil Durk . These tracks feature a range of instrumental backgrounds, from soft piano layers to thumping beats, all showcasing Polo G's powerful and passionate vocal lines.

Although the wait was long it was no doubt worth it, as the tracks on Hood Poet represent some of Polo G's finest work, from the refined production to his evocative, creative storytelling.

Katy Perry — "Lifetimes"

Continuing to tease songs from her forthcoming seventh studio album, 143 , Katy Perry delivers her latest dance-pop track, "Lifetimes." The song is a lively, upbeat anthem representing unconditional love.

On Instagram , Perry posted a photo with her partner, Orlando Bloom, using a filter that aged her 50 years, with the track playing in the background. However, Perry recently revealed to The Sun that the song is actually about her 3-year-old daughter, Daisy – a sweet ode to the unmatched feeling of maternal love.

"Every night, before we go to sleep, I say, 'I love you', and then I ask, 'Will you find me in every lifetime?' and she says, 'Yes'," Perry revealed.

ATEEZ and G-Eazy — "WORK Pt. 4"

Two months after ATEEZ released their 10th mini album, GOLDEN HOUR: Part 1 , the K-pop group is still breathing new life into the project's single "WORK" — this time, with the help of G-Eazy. Titled "WORK Pt. 4," the song's latest version features some steamy lines from G-Eazy on the second verse, bringing a risqué edge to the punchy rap-pop track.

"WORK Pt. 4" follows two electronic reimaginings of "WORK," as "Pt. 2" featured a remix by Dutch producer Don Diablo and "Pt. 3" was reworked by ATEEZ's production team, Eden-ary. While "WORK Pt. 4" is the closest to the bumping original, a press release teased that the newest version "reflects the ever-challenging spirit of ATEEZ."

Elvis Presley — 'MEMPHIS'

Following the 70th anniversary of Elvis Presley's debut single, "That's All Right," RCA Records and Legacy Recordings have released a sprawling 111-track box set, MEMPHIS . The career-spanning collection features recordings from his earliest sessions at Sun Studios through his final works from the Jungle Room in Presley's Graceland home.

Aside from the Sun Studios recordings, all of the tracks were newly mixed by four-time GRAMMY winner Matt Ross-Spang , who removed all of the overdubs to highlight Presley's original vocal recordings. MEMPHIS offers a new perspective on the King of Rock and Roll, providing a clear listening experience that further immortalizes his one-of-a-kind vocal prowess.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard — 'Flight b741'

With their 26th studio album, Flight b741 , King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard dive into a classic blues-rock sound, a departure from their usual psychedelic, experimental garage rock style.

The album features the Australian band's admirable response to current world issues, such as climate change, set against music that embraces the spirit of traditional rock. The concept focuses on how the music translates during their live performances.

Just after the album's release, the band will embark on a massive world tour, beginning Aug. 15 in Washington, D.C., and concluding at the end of November in Miami. The tour includes four shows billed as "marathon sets," where King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will perform for three hours each night.

Latto — 'Sugar Honey Iced Tea'

GRAMMY-nominated rapper Latto pays homage to her Southern hip-hop roots on her fittingly third studio album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea . The LP boasts an impressive list of collaborators, including Playboi Carti, Megan Thee Stallion , Ciara , and Cardi B .

Latto told Billboard that after a decade in the rap game, she feels she's already proven herself. Now, she is returning to her roots and making music that speaks to her, regardless of whether she receives additional flowers for it or not.

"I feel like what I'm doing has not been done before, so let's start there. [Aesthetically], I've been pulling from Mariah Carey , Beyoncé , and Lil' Kim . [Musically], I've been pulling from Kelis , but obviously with a Southern hip-hop twist," Latto says. "They have very feminine energy, but masculine in the sense of confidence."

DannyLux — "Soltera"

Embracing both sides of his Mexican and American cultural identity, 20-year-old DannyLux blends elements of Western house music with his tender Spanish lyricism on "Soltera."

Produced by Mexican-American producer 8onthebeat, the track is a fast-paced earworm perfect for hitting the dance floor. In the music video, DannyLux dances around different rooms of a house and singing along — setting the example for what listeners are bound to do once they press play.

LA LOM — 'The Los Angeles League of Musicians'

If you haven't heard of LA LOM yet, prepare for that to change. The Los Angeles-native trio is on the rise, earning an opening slot for Vampire Weekend earlier this year; now, they are unveil their debut album, The Los Angeles League of Musicians .

The project is a guitar-focused masterpiece, drawing inspiration from traditional Peruvian cumbia music. Featuring a diverse range of tracks, listening to The Los Angeles League of Musicians offers a unique sonic experience. The album takes listeners on a journey from laid-back, lo-fi tunes to uptempo dance tracks, perfect for a get-together with loved ones or a night out on the dance floor at your favorite hole-in-the-wall venue — a perfect weekend soundtrack.

New Music Friday: Listen To New Songs From Charli XCX And Billie Eilish, Saweetie, Sam Smith & More

As August begins, the summer jams prove to continue thanks to new music from Kacey Musgraves, Sam Smith, Jack White, and many more. Check out some of the most exciting Aug. 2 releases here.

Another month has passed us by, and August brings us closer to the end of the season. However, several new tracks and albums have dropped to lift our spirits. With brand new projects like Khalid 's Sincere , Maren Morris ' Intermission , and 49 Winchester's Leavin' This Holler , the beginning of August promises bright things ahead.

A slew of singles dropped, too, from exciting collaborations like Charli XCX 's "Guess" remix with Billie Eilish and Jessie Murph's new track with Teddy Swims to new offerings from Big Sean , Jhené Aiko , Jelly Roll , Suki Waterhouse, and more. Whether you're looking for full projects or a few new playlist additions, you will not be disappointed.

As you prepare to close out summer, be sure to check out these 10 new songs and albums.

Charli XCX & Billie Eilish — "Guess"

Just 24 hours after Charli XCX set the internet ablaze with a tease of her next collaboration, she not only unveiled the special guest, but she also dropped the track as a New Music Friday-eve gift: a remix of "Guess" with her fellow pop queen, Billie Eilish.

The pulsating song keeps the same club-ready aesthetic of the original from Charli XCX's brat , but taps into the sexual fluidity of Eilish's HIT ME HARD AND SOFT with the "LUNCH" singer adding a new verse (fans particularly went into a frenzy over Eilish's line "Charli likes boys but she knows I'd hit it"). The track offers a raunchy brand of girl power, further emphasized by the underwear-strewn video, as the unworn undergarments will be donated to survivors of domestic violence through I Support the Girls.

Kacey Musgraves — 'Deeper into the Well'

Seven-time GRAMMY-winner Kacey Musgraves is expanding the well she first introduced in March. With the release of Deeper Well , Musgraves showcased a softer side of herself that she discovered during periods of self-introspection following significant changes in her life.

Now, with Deeper into the Well , she takes us further along on her journey. Musgraves gave a taste of the additional seven songs with the release of her single "Irish Goodbye," which narrates the tale of someone struggling to find forgiveness for someone who abruptly left. The extended edition also includes two new features, "Perfection" with Tiny Habits and "Superbloom" with Leon Bridges.

The release comes one month before Musgraves is set to kick off her Deeper Well World Tour in Pennsylvania; she'll hit cities on both coasts, and conclude in Nashville in December.

Four years after her smash "Dance Monkey" took over the world, Tones and I releases her second studio album, Beautifully Ordinary . The follow-up to 2021's Welcome to the Madhouse , the 16-song project reflects the artist's growth, exploring themes of nostalgia, love, and self-acceptance. Each song invites listeners to embark on an emotional, personal journey with Tones and I, offering a source of catharsis for those who relate to her experiences.

Tones and I first gave listeners a taste of the project in June with lead single "Dance With Me," a track that delves into themes of heartbreak and desperation. Despite its underlying message of loneliness, the track retains Tones and I's signature upbeat rhythms and vibrant instrumentals — and the rest of Beautifully Ordinary follows suit, offering intimate and heartfelt narratives through her radiant musicality.

"I feel so incredibly lucky to be celebrating this milestone with you," Smith wrote on Instagram . "My team and I have created this beautiful anniversary edition for us all, and for the last 10 years."

Killer Mike — 'Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival, Songs For Sinners & Saints'

Fresh off going three-for-three at the 2024 GRAMMYs, Killer Mike delivers another potent project, Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival, Songs For Sinners & Saints . A follow-up to his autobiographical album 'MICHAEL', the 10-song collection dives deeper into his personal narrative, offering an epilogue filled with introspection and celebration — including the poignant track "HUMBLE ME," which reflects on his arrest after winning his GRAMMYs in February.

Killer Mike provided fans with a gift, releasing the album as a free download for the first 48 hours. In support of the release, Killer Mike electrified audiences with six performances over three nights at the legendary Blue Note jazz club in NYC, including a live-streamed show that attracted nearly 100,000 viewers. This project is a testament to Killer Mike's ongoing dialogue with his audience, addressing both tribulations and triumphs. As the tour continues with a stop at Lollapalooza just one day after the album's release , fans can engage further with tracks like "NOBODY KNOWS" and "HIGHER LEVEL," which offer a glimpse into the rapper’s evolving journey and continued impact on hip-hop.

Tiera Kennedy — "Cry"

Still riding high from her vocals featured on Beyoncé 's COWBOY CARTER , country star Tiera Kennedy releases her latest single, "Cry," which samples Justin Timberlake 's 2002 Timbaland -produced hit "Cry Me A River." It's another taste of Kennedy's forthcoming debut album, which she dubs "R&B/country."

"I've been really inspired by the music I grew up listening to," Kennedy shared in an Instagram video. "Timbaland had a hand in a lot of those songs."

Known for her distinctive approach to blending genres, Kennedy invites listeners to immerse themselves in her world of creative storytelling with her latest track. "Cry" explores the narrative of someone who has made their bed and has to lie in it, while Kennedy has already moved on.

Gryffin — 'PULSE'

Returning with his third studio album, electronic artist Gryffin embarks on a new era and unveils a fresh side of his artistry with PULSE . The 14-track album features collaborations with a range of artists, including Rita Ora, Disco Lines, MAX, and more.

"PULSE is a return to why I fell in love with dance music in the first place, and this is the most creatively inspired I've felt in years," said Gryffin on Instagram . "I can't wait for you all to hear the new sound and feel the passion I've put into these tracks."

John K — "Lost"

After more than a year of not releasing music, John K is back with a new single, "Lost." It's a song that vulnerably reveals feelings of completeness after finding the right person — a fitting narrative for the happily married singer, who is expecting his second child with his wife, Lenée.  . Becoming a father is one of the several major life changes John K has experienced in the past few years, all of which have shaped his upcoming music and brought his musical artistry to the next stage.

"I was writing with the aim of challenging myself to do something I hadn't done before," John K said in a press statement. "I shattered the box of what I thought I had to be, and it allowed me to get to deeper levels of honesty and really gain even more confidence. I took risks, and I honestly expressed myself.

Jack White — 'No Name'

After releasing two albums within four months in 2022, Jack White has essentially gone silent since — until now. Just two days after announcing his sixth studio album, No Name , the rock icon unveils his latest masterpiece.

The 13-track album stays true to White's DIY philosophy, with the recording, production, and mixing all handled by the artist himself at his own Third Man Studio. Even before the album dropped on Aug. 2, reviews were already glowing, with Variety calling it the album "fans have been lusting for" due to its parallels to the rip-roaring rock of his former band the White Stripes — but "without seeming retro or leaning too heavily on nostalgia."

Bootsy Collins — "Pure Perfection"

Ahead of his forthcoming album, Album of the Year #1 Funkateer , Bootsy Collins has released "Pure Perfection," a smooth, sultry track featuring German rapper FANTAAZMA and rapper Giz. The track also features one of the funk icon's legendary alter-egos, "Bedroom Bootsy," who brings a sultry tone to the tune.

Due Oct. 25 (the day before Collins' 73rd birthday), Album of the Year #1 Funkateer includes an 18-song track list with contributions from Snoop Dogg , Wiz Khalifa and more. And if the smooth, thumping vibe of "Pure Perfection" is any indication, the funk vet is ready to take fans on a trippy musical journey — one that only Bootsy Collins can moderate.

7 Artists Bringing Reggaeton Mexa To The World: El Malilla, Bellakath & More

Pulling from the genre's underground roots in Puerto Rico, these fast-rising reggaeton Mexa artists infuse their own culture and grit into a globally-appealing sound.

Música Mexicana isn't the only sound of Mexico that's blowing up; the country's artists are now starting to make their mark in reggaeton. Imbued with the essence, swagger, and lingo of Mexico, reggaeton Mexa i s the next big Latin sound that's going global.

Originating in the Caribbean, reggaeton evolved from Panama’s reggae en español and Jamaican dancehall of the 1980s. Puerto Rican acts like DJ Playero and DJ Nelson shaped the sound of reggaeton in the island's underground scene during the '90s, while Daddy Yankee , Tego Calderón , Don Omar, and Ivy Queen pushed the genre into the mainstream at the dawn of the new millennium.

Boricua acts Tainy , Bad Bunny , and Ozuna pushed reggaeton into the next decade, though Colombia also brought about the genre's second wind. J Balvin 's success solidified Medellín as a reggaeton hotbed, spawning Maluma , Karol G , and Feid as global stars.

In the 2020s, Mexico is becoming the next hub for reggaeton as artists who grew up listening to the Puerto Rican OGs  — as well as Mexican acts Ghetto Kids and Pablito Mix — are now putting their own stamp on the genre. In late 2022, Bellakath put a spotlight on reggaeton Mexa with her viral hit "Gatita"; the following year, Yng Lvcas took the sound to new heights with his "La Bebé " remix featuring Peso Pluma , which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Reggaeton Mexa pulls from the genre's underground roots in Puerto Rico, infusing its songs with Mexican culture and grit. Lyrics are full of Mexican slang that reflect life in the barrios .

"Reggaeton Mexa is reminiscent of the sounds of the '90s and 2000s from Puerto Rican DJs like Playero and Joe," El Mallila , one of the reggaeton Mexa leaders, tells GRAMMY.com. "The songs, the beats, and rhythms are more or less similar to that flow. The difference here is the Mexican jargon. Reggaeton Mexa is spicy. We play with Mexican profanities without being offensive."

The emerging genre has gained traction among the larger reggaeton community with Jowell y Randy, Maldy, and J Balvin recently featuring on their songs. Following the success of Yng Lvcas , Bellakath , and El Malilla , Mexican acts like Peso Pluma (who dedicated part of his Éxodo album to reggaeton) and pop star Kenia Os are embracing the wave. As the tide continues to rise for reggaeton Mexa , GRAMMY.com is highlighting seven of the sound's leading artists.

Guadalajara, Jalisco native Yng Lvcas noted that no one around him could name a Mexican reggaeton artist, so he decided to fill that void.

An early encounter would make for auspicious beginnings. As he was signing a record contract with Warner early last year, Yng Lvcas crossed paths with Peso Pluma. The música Mexicana star's first foray in reggaeton was with Yng Lvcas and their global hit, a sensual remix of "La Bebé ." Their collaboration became the first reggaeton song by Mexican artists to enter the Hot 100 chart.

Last October, Yng Lvcas released his album Super Estrellas to put a spotlight on more reggaeton Mexa acts. The LP included songs with El Malilla and El Bogueto . Puerto Rican OG Maldy later teamed up with Yng Lvcas for the hypnotic " Diviértete ."

The first artist to get the global conversation started about reggaeton Mexa was Bellakath . After earning a law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Mexico City native became a social media personality. Bellakath leveraged her following to start her music career, which exploded in late 2022 with the frisky "Gatita." The song went viral on TikTok and the music video has over 144 million views on YouTube.

In the male-dominated reggaeton Mexa scene, Bellakath is continuing to keep women on top. Last year, she released her debut album Kittyponeo with the hit "Reggaeton Champagne" featuring Dani Flow. After signing with Warner in May, Bellakath dropped " Sandunguea ," which sampled the reggaeton classic "Mayor Que Yo " by Luny Tunes. On July 15, Bellakath released her second album, Sata 42, where she ventured into dembow music with artists from the Dominican Republic.

El Malilla proudly represents the chakalones (Mexican slang for "bad boys") in reggaeton Mexa . Hailing from Valle de Chalco, El Malilla remembers his first encounter with reggaeton as a teen came from the pirated CDs that were sold at the tianguis , or open-air markets.

Now, El Malilla is bringing Mexico's version of reggaeton to the forefront. He recently released his debut album ÑEROSTARS , which includes his viral hit "B de Bellako " with Yeyo . Back in May, Puerto Rican OGs Jowell y Randy jumped on a remix of the quirky banger.

El Malilla also wants to make reggaeton Mexa more inclusive. Reggaeton has historically excluded LGBTQIA+ folks , though queer artists such as Young Miko , Villano Antillano , and La Cruz are changing that tune. On the Mexican front, El Malilla wanted to be an ally to his queer fans with the 2000-inspired " Rebote " music video, which was shot at the gay club Spartacus with Mexican drag queens.

Within his album, El Malilla is also stretching the bounds of his artistry by exploring merengue in " Coronada " and experimenting with house music in "Todo Tiene Su Final." " ÑEROSTARS is a call to all the reggaeton Mexa artists to dare themselves to make new music and try different sounds," he says. "Don’t stay in your comfort zone just making perreo ."

Veracruz native Yeri Mua is keeping a high heel firmly planted on the neck of the genre, holding it down for the women in reggaeton Mexa .

Mua started out doing makeup tutorials on YouTube and later grew a massive social media following. Last year, she launched her music career on Uzielito Mix's reggaeton romp "Línea del Perreo ," which has over 103 million streams on Spotify. In songs like " Chupon ," Mua brings a fierce femininity to reggaeton Mexa while flipping the genre's explicit lyrics from a woman's perspective. In April, Kenia Os tapped Mua and Ghetto Kids for her reggaeton Mexa banger "Mamita Rica." With a laugh, Os told GRAMMY.com at the time, "[Mua] sounds very sexy and makes noises like meowing. It felt very great to work with her." Last month, Mua signed a record contract with Sony Music México.

Alongside El Malilla , El Bogueto is one of the OGs of reggaeton Mexa . The Nezahualcóyotl native has scored a number of hits since 2021, including "Tu Favo " and "G Low Kitty," which has nearly 60 million streams on Spotify.

The title of El Bogueto's 2023 debut album Reggaetoñerito is an amalgamation of the words reggaetonero and ñero , which is Mexican slang for a person from the hood. El Bogueto has continued to rack up millions of streams with his LP, which include hits like the freaky reggaeton romp " Piripituchy " and "Dale Bogueto ." In May, J Balvin gave his co-sign to El Bogueto and the reggaeton Mexa scene when he jumped on an all-star remix of "G Low Kitty."

Among the artists on this list, Yeyo is the freshest one on the reggaeton Mexa scene, but he's fast becoming one of the genre's brightest stars and the go-to artist for a hit collaboration. The Zacatepec , Morelos native is a protege of Ghetto Kids' Luis Díaz , who also serves as his manager.

Yeyo's playful and infectious flow as a Mexican reggaetonero has translated into million of streams in songs like "B de Bellako " with El Malilla and "Mami Chakalosa " alongside Bellakath . He has also flexed a romantic side to his distinct voice in Ghetto Kids' recent hit "En El Ghetto #5 (La Discoteca)." Yeyo has also shined on the electronica-leaning reggaeton of " Maldad " and the sensual " Tentación ."

Uzielito Mix

Many of the songs mentioned in this list wouldn't have been possible without Uzielito Mix. Following in the footsteps of Ghetto Kids and Pablito Mix, the Mexico City-based producer has become the backbone of the sound of reggaeton Mexa . Uzielito Mix produced Yeri Mua's hits like "Línea del Perreo " and " Brattiputy ." He also co-produced El Bogueto and El Mallila's "G Low Kitty" with DJ Rockwell, which J Balvin later hopped on.

In his stellar collaborations, Uzielito Mix is known for uniting many of the reggaeton Mexa stars. He continues to push the sound of the genre into the future like in the spooky " Espantan " remix with El Bogueto , Alnz G, Dani Flow, and Tensec . In 2022, Bad Bunny tapped Uzielito Mix to open his World's Hottest Tour stops in Mexico City.

On 'Paragon,' Steve Aoki Keeps Pushing: "This Is By Far The Most Innovative Dance Album I've Ever Done"

From techno to electro, 'Paragon' runs the gamut of dance sounds.Out June 28, the LP is decisively for the dance floor and reflects "a newer sound of Steve Aoki."

The title of his ninth studio album is an apt description of Steve Aoki himself.

The cake-throwing DJ/producer — best known commercially for his 2012 remix of Kid Cudi , MGMT , and Ratatat’s "Pursuit Of Happiness" — can very well be called a paragon of longevity in dance and electronic music. And like his stature as one of the world’s highest-paid DJs ( Forbes regularly cites him on its annual list), this status is hard-won.

"[The dance music industry] is…not forgiving," he tells GRAMMY.com on a Zoom call from his home in Las Vegas. He appears in quintessential Aoki fashion: shirtless, his long, dark hair cascading down his shoulders. "Yes, I have a safety level where I can continue to play shows based on old tracks, but that doesn't last very long. You have to constantly stay ahead."

Akin to HiRO — the protagonist of the HiROQUEST graphic novel series that he created to pair with his last two studio albums, HiROQUEST : Genesis and HiROQUEST 2: Double Helix — Aoki is on a quest of his own. HiRO (a genetically augmented meta-human) is tasked with traveling into the multiverse 400 years into the future to save Earth from an unavoidable disaster. Aoki’s charge — continuous innovation of his craft to sustain his longevity in dance music’s ever-saturated and rapidly-moving market — is no less dire nor significant to the Dim Mak Records founder.

"I've always had this starvation complex where I have to keep doing my s—, or else I'm going to die," he muses casually, phone in hand as he paces around his house, as he’s done since he joined our call. Judging by the deadpan manner in which he delivers this line and the laugh that caps it off, this is not a revelation for Aoki. As the Greek maxim goes, "know thyself." Assuredly, he does, and well enough to know he has to keep doing his thing, hence Paragon .

The 18-track project, out June 28, harkens back to Aoki’s dance floor roots following 2023’s Latin-influenced HiROQUEST 2: Double Helix and 2022’s alternative- and punk-guided HiROQUEST . It teems with high-profile crossover collaborations, like "Heavenly Hell" ( Ne-Yo ), " Electrowavebaby 2.0" ( Kid Cudi ), and "Get Lower" ( Lil Jon ). Most importantly, though, it reflects "a newer sound of Steve Aoki" — a compelling and contemporary means of extending his "safety level" in the dance space.

Ahead of Paragon ’s release via his own imprint and an international tour, Steve Aoki spoke with GRAMMY.com about the album’s relationality to his artistic identity and HiROQUEST and why, even after nine albums, he’s still "very excited and very hungry to get back in the studio and continue to write music that matters."

This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Why was now the right time for you to go back to your true dance roots?

An album is always about where I am at that moment. I look at each album in a way where I don't want to think too deeply about it. I want it to be more of a timestamp that, in 10 years’ time, reflects that moment in time for me.

This time, a lot of the collaborations I was doing just fluidly became more of the same synergy. It’s a flow, and Paragon is also directly reflective of the kind of music I'm playing at my shows.

Dance music is certainly on a rise , especially the newer sounds of dance music. Sonically, the climate's changing a lot, which challenges me as a producer who was more dominant in the 2010s. I was putting out a lot of music then, and those songs were more prolific in the electronic dance music community.

Now, I'm challenged to stay ahead of my own production. The DNA of your sound stays with you, but you’ve got to always innovate, and this is by far the most innovative dance album I've ever done.

What, in your opinion, makes 'Paragon' so innovative?

When I go back into Paragon and I listen to each song, it's a newer sound of Steve Aoki; it's very dynamic and diverse. There’s house records, there's techno records, there's different beats-per-minute ranges — it's not just hard-hitting festival records.

I think it's forward-thinking for me as a producer, and I'm already working on the "Part B." I distinctively made it shorter than my previous three albums, which were over 20 songs each. This is more of a traditional album length because I look at it as a two-part story musically.

I have a bigger story that I've been attaching to my albums, like HiROQUEST and HiROQUEST 2 . I wrote a book that joins those two albums into a full-length science fiction fantasy anime storyline with art and cards and collectability factor, all that fun stuff outside of music.

Paragon is going to be an Easter egg or precursor to what's to come — the continuation of HiROQUEST . I just wanted to not use the name HiROQUEST because I wanted to do something different.

How does the album’s title fit into this larger narrative?

The Paragon Aura is a huge theme of Book 2 of HiROQUEST — it's what brings HiRO back from the "lost world" where he's been stuck. He essentially dies at the end of Book 1 and gets stuck in this lost world. This aura brings him back.

The HiROQUEST is a quest of 10 rings and HiRO is trying to obtain all 10, so he gets this power that’s going to be discussed in Book 2.   In order to forge the 10 rings to this omnipotent god ring, he has to use the Paragon Aura. The Paragon Aura is an extremely powerful tool and it's a big theme of the second book.

You’re certainly a paragon of longevity in the dance space, which is rare. How have you maintained such an enduring and continuously expanding presence?

The hunger needs to be there. It doesn't matter how successful you might be to the world. Yes, I have a safety level where I can continue to play shows based on old tracks, but that doesn't last very long. You have to constantly stay ahead.

I think dance music is a bit different from rock or other genres where you can tour off your old catalog. Blink-182 never has to make another new song if they don't want to; they're going to sell out stadiums based on their catalog. Radiohead , Coldplay , they never have to make another new song — they're going to sell out.

There's certain artists in the dance world that are veterans in the space . They’re household names. Like Tiësto or David Guetta …they don't have to release any more music, but they do. When they drop new music, it's still consistently part of culture, which is so exciting. I think that's exciting about the dance world; we still have a strong fingerprint.

Do you count yourself among the veteran dance acts who don’t have to release more music if they don’t want to?

There are definitely people who might think I'm in this category, but I don't personally think about myself like that. Not doing so keeps me fighting for it. I'm still very excited and very hungry to get back in the studio and continue to write music that matters.

The baseline has to be that you're giving all of yourself to this. I still remember touring in a band with four sweaty dudes, showering once a week, and staying at people's houses. Not once in those 14 tours did we ever stay in a hotel. All the money went to gas and feeding ourselves.

We’d be broke by the end of the tour, and I’d be ready for the next one. I still remember the feeling of okay, we’re broke, we’re stinky, and we’re back in our town. Now we gotta write more music to get back on the road again , and I loved it. I did like 14 full tours by the time I was 21. It's a lot more luxurious these days but doing what you love has to be the foundation or else you can't survive the hard.

I've been doing my record label, Dim Mak, for almost 30 years now. The people who have worked for Dim Mak…it's a lifestyle. Yes, they're working to get a paycheck, but they're working first and foremost because they believe in the culture. You have to be down with the culture first and the paycheck second.

What can fellow DJ/producers take from the example you’ve set?

I think the most important thing is to never stop making music and leveling up your shows because those are the two most important things as an artist in any space. The live experience is really important . Your music is number one, though, because if your music's not good, no one's even going to go to your live show. You need to build your sound to a point where people know your music as you, and then you better show up and make your show really good . And not even just good — you’ve got to make it your own show.

A Steve Aoki show is a unique show, and in some cases, it's outperforming my music. People will talk more about my cakes than my new album. I'll take it though, because I just want people to have a great experience.

There are a lot of artists who find their sound, develop it, people latch onto them, and then they just fizzle out for whatever reason. When it fizzles out, that's when the real test comes and it’s to go back to it. If you really care about the long game, you’ve got to keep putting more cakes in the oven.

Nine albums is a tall tally, especially for the dance genre, where the album is not the dominant format. Why is it important to you to continue making albums despite this dynamic?

I've always been an album guy because I was a band guy. When you're in a band, the most important thing is to make an album, not a song. You have to make a collection of music that defines you.

When I was in bands, I listened to albums, and I’d listen to every single song. I know people don't do that anymore, but I still like to follow that, I can't help it. I collect vinyl; I do certain things in the old-school sense that you can't kick out of me.

I know people aren't listening to the full album. I know they're listening to the song that's probably the main song of the whole album. And even if one one-hundredth of my fans listen to the full album, I don't actually care. I'm still going to make the album. It goes back to the most important thing: I'm doing it for myself first.

I love telling a story . All the attention to detail and my intention to create this moment in time means so much to me. I know one one-hundredth of the people are going to be there for it, and I'm totally fine with that. I've grown a community of fans because I care so much about the detail; I go so deep into the story. I do it for them too. And the people who are in and out and come just for the quick hit, that's fine. They're absolutely welcome and invited to be part of it.

That one one-hundredth appreciates the concept-driven approach to album-making, especially because this genre isn’t exactly known for that compared to other genres.

Yeah, and I think a lot of stuff that I'm doing, especially with HiROQUEST , has not been done before, like bringing in anime culture, card culture, comic books, and manga. No one's doing that in [dance music]. The Weeknd did a comic book and so did Kid Cudi. I'm following the same practice of combining these worlds.

And I went deep in HiROQUEST : Book 1 . It's 50,000 words. I spent like 16 months writing this book; it’s 250 pages. That’s a big ordeal, but what's great is we’ve already sold out two printings. We're already in our third printing now, which is incredible for a story that had never been heard before.

I love my fans for that. It allows me to have the courage to keep going. To step out like this is a lot of work and a lot of time, and you don't want to fall on deaf eyes and ears. I'm already writing Book 2 .
