Africa Safari Tours & Vacations

  • Africa Safari Tours & Holidays

Take a walk on the wild side on an African safari.

The word “safari” means “journey” in Swahili. And a safari in Africa is all about the journey. While seeing a leopard munch on a freshly caught gazelle or spying a curious lion cub venture away from its mother’s protective embrace will be highlights of your trip, you’ll discover the journey is as much a part of your trip as the destination.

The road-trip games you play with your new travel mates, the feeling of the wind (and maybe a little dust) in your hair when you’re travelling down long, winding roads, and the young Maasai boy who waved at you as you passed him along the road will stay with you long after you return.

Elephants in Kruger National Park

Spot the Big 5 in South Africa

Go on safari through Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Southern Africa . This massive park is one of the premier safari spots in all of Africa and for good reason; it’s home to over 500 bird species, 100 species of reptile and 150 mammal species, including the Big Five and the endangered African wild dog.

Gorillas in Uganda

Go gorilla trekking in Uganda

Venture deep into the steamy jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of the rare mountain gorilla. With a local guide to lead you, you’ll trek into the forest to spend one unforgettable hour watching and hanging out with a family of gorillas. A close encounter with these gentle giants is an extraordinary African experience that will always stay with you.

giraffes on the Serengeti in Tanzania

Float over the Serengeti

The only thing more magical than witnessing the great wildebeest migration across the Serengeti? Seeing it from the sky in a hot air balloon. As the herds of wildebeest and thousands of other animals travel from Serengeti National Park to the greener pastures of the Masai Mara National Reserve, you can watch their journey and enjoy incredible views from a unique perspective.

Okavango Delta

Canoe in the Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta has a unique system of waterways that are home to an immense array of wildlife. The best way to explore it is in a mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe. Visit in May to September, when animals are confined to small islands created by the annual flood, making it easy to spot great herds of elephant and antelope, hippos, crocodiles, lions, cheetahs and more.

Where we stay on safari.

Camping in Africa

On our safari trips you’ll stay in billion-star accommodation. That’s our way of saying you’re sleeping under the night sky, camping in the great outdoors. On our Basix and sections of Original trips, you’ll stay in two-person canvas tents that our crew will help you set up. And on our Comfort trips, you’ll be staying in permanent tented camps and lodges (think glamping instead of camping).

Campsite facilities can sometimes be basic, but wherever possible, we make sure there are Western-style toilets and warm water available. But you’ll find it’s worth sacrificing a warm shower or two when you’re waking up to sunrise over the Masai Mara.

How we get around

Africa overland truck

On our safari trips, your main mode of transport is an overland truck, a purpose-built vehicle made for driving through Africa’s winding, and sometimes bumpy, country roads. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The trucks are also equipped with power outlets to charge your camera, phone and other devices on the go.

For more info on our overland trucks, see our Africa overland page .

African Safari FAQs

When is the best time to go on safari.

Generally speaking, January, February and June to October are the best times to go on safari in Africa. This is the dry season, so animals tend to come out into more open spaces in search of water, making them easier to spot. However, you’ll be able to spot animals all year round and you’ll enjoy fewer crowds if you travel outside peak season.

Read more about the best time to go on safari .

Where is the best place to go on safari?

The best place to go on safari depends on what kind of animals you’d like to see and what other activities you’d like to do in destination. We offer safaris to some of the best safari destinations in eastern and southern Africa, like Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and more.

Read more about how to choose your ideal African safari .

Am I guaranteed to see animals on safari?

While we can’t guarantee you’ll spot the Big 5, you’d have to be profoundly unlucky to see no animals at all. On our trips, you’ll explore some of the best game parks and national reserves in the world. These protected areas are filled with a huge variety of different species and your expert driver and local leader will help you spot animals.

What are the “Big 5”?

The “Big 5” used to refer to the five big game animals that were the most difficult to hunt. Now that most shooting is done on a camera, the Big 5 are the most exciting animals to spot while on safari: the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo.

What should I pack for safari?

Loose, light clothing in neutral colours is the best attire for a safari (dark colours will get hot in the sun and can attract the Tsetse fly). You’ll also want a sun hat, some good walking shoes, a camera, sunscreen and bug spray. For more details, check out our ultimate Africa packing guide .

What type of food will be served on safari?

On our Basix trips you’ll have a cook travelling with you while you are on safari who will whip up a variety of local flavours and Western-style dishes. Along your route, your cook will stop to purchase fresh, locally sourced food for your meals. You can expect a variety of things for breakfast like fruit, eggs, toast and cereal; lunch is often sandwiches and salads; and dinner is usually a hearty meal like pasta, curry or a BBQ.

On our Original and Comfort trips there will be more meals at camps and lodges along the way. No matter what you’re craving, you definitely will not be going hungry on safari.

What are the toilets and showers like on safari?

Most of the permanent tented camps will have a private bathroom with flushing toilets and showers with warm water.

Many of the campsites we stay at have communal facilities with flushing toilets and showers with warm water. However, in some of the more remote areas, there may only be basic facilities (toilets and cold running water).

Can you accommodate accessibility requirements on your safari tours?

We are committed to making travel accessible to everyone, so we will work with you to assess whether you will be able to complete an existing itinerary, or whether we will be able to make reasonable adjustments to meet your needs before you book. Please see our accessible travel page for more information.

What is internet and phone access like on safari?

Some of our hotels and campsites will have Wi-Fi, however Internet and phone access may be limited in more remote areas. But you won’t miss it when you’re watching a pride of lions prowl through long grass or enjoying a drink around the campfire with your group.

Responsible travel

go 4 safari

Our stance on Animal Welfare

This world and the animals that call it home are precious, and we believe it’s our responsibility to help preserve them. We do not include or condone any activities that exploit animals on our safari trips, including hunting, feeding or interacting with animals in any way. We believe that wild animals should be observed in the wild, from a respectful distance.

Some tips for being a wildlife-friendly traveller include never buying animal products, not participating in activities that include contact with the animals, and not including location tags on social media posts (some poachers have gone high-tech and use social media to track rare animals’ locations).

Read more about our Animal Welfare Policy here .

Privacy is built in.

Online privacy isn’t just something you should hope for — it’s something you should expect. That’s why Safari comes with industry-leading privacy protection technology built in, including Intelligent Tracking Prevention that identifies trackers and helps prevent them from profiling or following you across the web. Upgrading to iCloud+ gives you even more privacy protections, including the ability to sign up for websites and services without having to share your personal email address.

go 4 safari

Intelligent Tracking Prevention

go 4 safari

Safari stops trackers in their tracks.

What you browse is no one’s business but your own. Safari has built‑in protections to help stop websites and data-collection companies from watching and profiling you based on your browsing activity. Intelligent Tracking Prevention uses on‑device intelligence to help prevent cross‑site tracking and stops known trackers from using your IP address — making it incredibly difficult to learn who you are and what you’re interested in.

Privacy Report

Safari makes it simple to see how your privacy is protected on all the websites you visit. Click Privacy Report in the Safari menu for a snapshot of cross-site trackers currently prevented from profiling you on the website you’re visiting. Or view a weekly Privacy Report to see how Safari protects you as you browse over time.

Customization

Putting the you in url..

Safari is more customizable than ever. Organize your tabs into Tab Groups so it’s easy to go from one interest to the next. Set a custom background image and fine-tune your browser window with your favorite features — like Reading List, Favorites, iCloud Tabs, and Siri Suggestions. And third-party extensions for iPhone, iPad, and Mac let you do even more with Safari, so you can browse the way you want across all your devices.

go 4 safari

Safari Profiles allow you to separate your history, extensions, Tab Groups, favorites, cookies, and more. Quickly switch between profiles for topics you create, like Personal and Work.

go 4 safari

Web apps let you save your favorite websites to the Dock on Mac and to the Home Screen on iPhone and iPad. A simplified toolbar and separate settings give you an app-like experience.

go 4 safari

Safari Extensions add functionality to your browser to help you explore the web the way you want. Find and add your favorite extensions in the dedicated Safari category on the App Store.

go 4 safari

Save and organize your tabs in the way that works best for you. Name your Tab Groups, edit them, and switch among them across devices. You can also share Tab Groups — making planning your next family trip or group project easier and more collaborative.

Surf safe and sound.

Strong security protections in Safari help keep you safe. Passkeys introduce a safer way to sign in. iCloud Keychain securely stores and autofills passkeys and passwords across all your devices. Safari also notifies you when it encounters suspicious websites and prevents them from loading. Because it loads each web page in a separate process, any harmful code is always confined to a single browser tab so it won’t crash the entire application or access your data. And Safari automatically upgrades sites from HTTP to the more secure HTTPS when available.

go 4 safari

Passkeys introduce a more secure and easier way to sign in. No passwords required.

Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and safe from phishing and data leaks, and they are stronger than all common two-factor authentication types. Thanks to iCloud Keychain, they work across all your Apple devices, and they even work on non-Apple devices.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Right Safari for You

go 4 safari

TripSavvy / Jess Macdonald

Africa is a vast continent, and the possibilities for exploring it are endless. From gorilla-trekking expeditions in Uganda to Big Five game drives in Tanzania , safari experiences are equally diverse. There are many steps to consider when planning your African safari - including deciding what you want to see, how you'd like to travel and how much you're willing to spend. In this article, we take a look at a few of the different safari options on offer, so that you can decide which one best suits your personal preferences.

Step 1: Decide What You Want to See

The first step to finding the perfect safari vacation is to think carefully about what you want to see. This will dictate when you travel, and also where you travel - after all, you're unlikely to see elephant and rhino if you opt for a camel safari in the Sahara Desert. Similarly, some animals prefer a very specialized type of habitat and can only be found in a handful of different countries. This is true for the critically endangered mountain gorilla , which lives exclusively in the forests of Uganda, Rwanda , and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

For many first-time safari-goers, ticking off the Big Five is a priority. This term refers to the most iconic large mammals of Southern and East Africa - including lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. Only a few game reserves have sufficient space and the right mix of habitats for all five species to co-exist in harmony. For the highest chance of success, consider booking your safari to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya; Kruger National Park in South Africa; or the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.

If watching predators in action is at the top of your bucket list try Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park , which spans the border between South Africa and Botswana. East Africa's annual Great Migration is another good bet, as the vast herds of migrating wildebeest and zebra inevitably attract a pantheon of hungry lions, leopards, cheetah, and hyena. Namibia's Etosha National Park is one of the best places in the world to spot the critically endangered black rhino; while Botswana's Chobe National Park and Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park are famous for their enormous elephant herds.

Note:  If you're more interested in birds than mammals, check out this list of Southern Africa's best birding spots .

Step 2: Decide on Your Mode of Transport

The most traditional mode of safari transport is, of course, an open-sided 4x4 Jeep. However, if you're looking for a more unique way of getting around, this may become a factor in choosing your destination. Walking safaris are a wonderful way of experiencing the wilderness up close, giving you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and scents of the African bush. Zambia's South Luangwa National Park is well-known as one of the best options for walking safaris in Southern Africa.

Water safaris (usually conducted in a small boat or sometimes even a canoe) are another memorable option and can be an especially good choice for those with an interest in birds. During the dry season, birds and animals of all descriptions flock to the nearest water source, giving you ringside seats to the action. For river safaris, consider Namibia's Caprivi Strip , or the Chobe River in Botswana . The Okavango Delta (also in Botswana) offers opportunities for dugout canoe safaris, while Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe specializes in houseboat safaris.

Some game reserves also give you the chance to explore on horseback, or even on the back of an elephant. For something a little different, head to North Africa for a camel safari in an arid country like Morocco or Tunisia. While you may not see the same volume of wildlife in the Sahara Desert, the region's magical dune landscapes, and ancient Berber culture more than make up for it. If you've got cash to burn (or if you're saving up for a special anniversary or birthday celebration), a hot air balloon safari is one of the most memorable options of all. The Serengeti is particularly famous for hot air balloon rides.

Step 3: Decide on Your Desired Level of Independence

The final decision you need to make is whether you want to travel as part of a group, as part of a private guided tour or on your own. There are benefits and drawbacks to each option, and deciding which best suits your personality is important.

Group tours involve a planned itinerary with set activities allocated to each day of your trip. You'll share your vacation with strangers - which can either be a great way to meet new people or could see you stuck with people that you don't particularly like. One major benefit is the price - shared gas bills and group discounts on accommodation and activities help to reduce the final cost of your trip. Another is the ease of traveling with a guide, who will organize park fees, accommodation, food and routes for you.

Private guided trips can be a good option for those that want to leave the task of arranging bookings etc to an agency, while also benefiting from the expertise of a knowledgeable guide in the bush. You'll have the freedom to tailor your itinerary to suit your exact interests, and you don't have to worry about group dynamics. The drawback is the cost - private guided safaris are the most expensive option of all.

On the other end of the spectrum, self-drive safaris offer complete independence for a fraction of the cost. You'll be able to go where you want to when you want to. However, some parks may not allow self-drive tours; and you'll need to be entirely self-sufficient when it comes to booking accommodation, organizing your food and gas and choosing your routes. South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana are the best destinations for self-drive safaris .

Safari experience in a lodge, tented camp

Everything you need to know before booking your first African safari

For many, a safari represents the optimal escape and lifelong travel dream. If you’re going to invest in turning this dream into reality, there are some things worth considering. Plus, we recommend five incredible wildlife itineraries for 2023.

From the first waft of dewy morning air to the gentle owl hoots that drift into camp after dark, there’s a satisfying natural rhythm to a day on safari in Africa. Even if you’re not normally an early riser, you’ll quickly fall into the routine of pre-dawn starts, lazy lunchtimes, active afternoons and mellow evenings, making the most of the best hours both for wildlife-watching and for chilling out. Deep at night, if you’re lucky, you may hear the distant whoop of a hyena, the rasping call of a leopard or the bassy roar of a lion.

But more often than not, you’ll sleep soundly, drunk on fresh air. Soon after you wake, you’ll head out into the wild, eager to discover what the day will deliver. Perhaps you’ll find yourself inching up on some rhinos, watching boisterous elephants bathe in a waterhole or spotting the youngest, cutest members of a mighty big cat dynasty.

If this sounds like the kind of escape you’ve been craving, but you’re puzzling over possible itineraries, what’s the best way to choose?

Green means go

While every luxury safari offers unforgettable wildlife encounters, there are plenty of options to consider. High-end African trips and settings vary hugely in their atmosphere and style.

Some itineraries, for example, are much greener than others. If you’re passionate about nature, you’ll want to make ethical choices, mindful of climate change and biodiversity, perhaps by minimising your time in the air. While every long-haul trip has a high carbon footprint, you can limit your safari’s impact by choosing a destination near an international airport and sharing a vehicle rather than continuing by taking domestic flights.

With superb wildlife-watching opportunities within driving distance, Nairobi makes an excellent starting point for a low-airmiles luxury safari. “You could head for the stunning mountains and waterfalls of the Aberdare range, where lions hunt giant forest hogs”, says Kenya specialist Richard Trillo of Expert Africa. “The tree-dotted plains of the Maasai Mara, which host East Africa’s annual Great Migration, are also within reach,” Richard adds.

There are other ways to dial down the net impact of your trip without compromising on quality, however. While carbon offset schemes can help compensate for your emissions, for a more targeted approach, you could book your trip through a specialist safari operator that has established working partnerships with African conservation charities.

“We’re proud to support South Africa’s all-female Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit, and Greenpop, a non-profit Sub-Saharan forest restoration and urban greening organisation,” says Marcelo Novais of luxury operator Ker and Downey Africa.

“We give all our clients the opportunity to donate to these worthy causes, since leaving a positive legacy is one of our core values,” he adds. Other deserving organisations include African Parks, the African Wildlife Foundation, Tusk and the World Land Trust.

Another effective way of maximising the benefits of your trip is to choose lodges that go the extra mile in their vicinity, doing more for environmental protection, community partnerships and rural development than   merely covering park fees and basic wages. In Tanzania, the Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge invites guests to visit the craft project they support, Shanga, where locals with disabilities upcycle glass, textiles and fishing wire into cute elephant cushions, jewellery and clothing.

When it comes to shortlisting properties, membership of Ecotourism Kenya, Responsible Tourism Tanzania, Fair Trade Tourism and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council are generally useful indicators.

Settling in

Once you’ve arrived in the bush, what will your surroundings feel like? Anyone who’s cautious about camping in the wilderness will be relieved to discover that most top-end operators put their guests at ease by focusing on creature comforts: cool drinks, gourmet dining, indulgently appointed private bathrooms and sumptuous beds, for example. As a rule, their staff — from the head guide to the housekeepers — are superb at their jobs.

That said, there are significant differences between, on the one hand, intimate, minimalist camps with just a handful of canvas tents and, at the other extreme, sizeable lodges featuring swimming pools, gyms and perhaps even a spa, photography hide, editing suite, research centre, library and observatory. It’s a matter of weighing up how close to nature you’d like to feel — hearing all those thrilling sounds in the night, for example — against the range of facilities and creature comforts you’d like to enjoy.

When deciding, honest opinions from people who know the properties well can be invaluable. “Our safari specialists always have detailed conversations with our clients to understand their preferences and offer advice”, says Liberty Gilmour of Audley Travel. “Conventional aircon, for example, is rarely essential: Zambia in May and high-altitude destinations such as Ngorongoro can be quite cool, particularly at night. If it’s hot, natural ventilation may be sufficient, but many camps also have solar-powered cooling systems.”

Whether opulent, nostalgic or quirky, surroundings that suit your aesthetic aspirations can elevate your experience. The family heirlooms that decorate Camp Jabulani in South Africa’s Kapama Reserve, for example, create a uniquely cosy atmosphere, while Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana’s Okavango Delta is so proud of its collection of original pieces by contemporary African artists and artisans that staff offer art and design tours of the premises. To strike a contemporary note, Loisaba Lodo Springs in Kenya’s Loisaba Conservancy has rooms dotted with hand-stitched West African textiles and elegant upcycled Edwardian furniture.

Expedition Camp for exploring the local wildlife

Peaceful days

Almost every safari programme revolves around guided excursions called game drives, a name dating back to the days of Big Five hunting trips, but the style of the vehicles you ride in isn’t discussed as much as perhaps it should be. While some outfits settle for basic open-sided 4x4s, others invest in supremely comfortable, easy-access vehicles with charging points, dustproof storage space and a fridge. If you’re a keen photographer, top quality private vehicles are a must. Electric safari vehicles offer a particularly smooth ride; while still rare, they’re the future, and are starting to catch on.

Ila Safari Lodge in Zambia’s Kafue National Park offers the rare luxury of total peace and quiet. Founder Vincent Kouwenhoven, who has pioneered electric transport at Ila and its sister lodges in Zambia and Malawi, explains: “Our love for Africa led us to develop technologies that enable guests to experience the bush in near-silent, pollution-free vehicles, charged by our own solar panels. It’s an ecologically conscious way to watch wildlife and very calming, too. Instead of the engine, you hear birdsong.”

Some safaris also promise near-solitude in a vast natural landscape — an intoxicating feeling. One way to dodge the crowds is to travel during low season, the dates of which vary from location to location; alternatively, you could choose private reserves where the only vehicles you’ll see will be those of your fellow guests. As well as providing daytime activities, guides may offer night drives, using spotlights to search for nocturnal activity, such as birds roosting or lions stalking their prey.

For the ultimate in exclusivity, it’s possible to book an entire camp or lodge, with the staff handcrafting everything to your precise specifications, from wake-up times to the cocktails and canapes. According to Ash Jarvis of Best of South Africa Travel, exclusive-use properties work particularly well for mixed-generation families: “With their private game drives, multiple living areas, private pool and the undivided attention of the whole staff, including the chefs (fussy eaters welcome), they eliminate stress and ensure that nobody has to compromise. That’s what good family holidays are all about.”

The ultimate adventure

If serenity is your scene, you may be dreaming of floating over herds of zebras and wildebeest in a hot-air balloon, or wandering across the savannah on a bushwalk or cycle ride. The most interesting safaris offer a mixed programme of imaginative guided activities such as these, enlivening the days with little surprises: picnics in beauty spots, perhaps, or lantern-lit barbecues.

The possibilities depend, to a large extent, on your choice of location. In Kenya’s northern conservancies, for example, you could explore the semi-desert by camel, while in Rwanda or Uganda, the activity you probably won’t want to miss is venturing into the depths of the rainforest on foot for a precious one-hour audience with mountain gorillas.

On a gorilla trek, you’ll be guided by rangers at the top of their game — a hallmark of an excellent safari. A knowledgeable, communicative guide can transform any trip, keeping you safe, entertained and intrigued.

“The inside track is what you really want, whether that’s in guiding, photography or conservation”, says Will Bolsover of Natural World Safaris. “In-depth knowledge leads you beneath the surface, for true insights into how conservation works, how wildlife benefits and how you can contribute.”

Since quality time with experts is one of the ultimate luxuries you can enjoy on safari, some top-end safaris, particularly in Kenya and South Africa, include a philanthropic element, whereby in exchange for a substantial donation to a conservation fund, you gain access to specialists in the field, perhaps even helping collar predators or collecting DNA samples from juvenile rhinos. Conservation safari companies such as Great Plains and AWF Safaris can assist with this. There’s no better way to start unlocking the mysteries of the African wilderness.

10 Mistakes to Avoid on a Safari, According to Experts

Lions, leopards, and elephants, oh my! The allure of a safari is enticing — but so is falling prey to these amateur moves. So, we talked to experts to ensure the antics are left up to the animals.

go 4 safari

The night before my first safari drive in Nepal's Chitwan National Park in 2017, my tour guide pointed at me. Thinking he was about to make an example of me for my white ExOfficio BugsAway Damselfly jacket, I was shocked when he said my outfit was too bright for the game drive.

In my head, white was the ultimate neutral color, which I knew we were supposed to wear. But what I didn't realize was that, in the context of safaris, neutral meant shades that blend into the surroundings, like greens and browns.

On top of that, a few of my fellow travelers were taking malaria pills — something I hadn't even thought of. Needless to say, I was beyond unprepared.

Then, last year, when I saw a single spot left on my dream itinerary, G Adventures' National Geographic Journeys' Explore Southern Africa , I went for it, even though departure was only a few weeks away. Of course, I immediately went to my doctor for the right medication and pulled every camouflage item out of my closet. However, I still found myself covered in dirt and fumbling with binoculars and cameras when I should have been focused on searching for the Big Five.

To ensure your safari experiences go smoother than my trip-ups, I talked to experts about the biggest mistakes people make when they head into the wild. Here are the 10 biggest mistakes pros say you should avoid on a safari vacation.

1. Not Doing Proper Research

Not all game reserves and safari lodges are created equal — and if checking the Big Five off your list is a priority, then you should understand exactly what you're booking. "It's important to do your homework on the quality of the game viewing, qualifications of the guiding team, and the standard of the accommodations," says Royal Malewane director Juan Pinto, who has more than 20 years of industry experience, including as a field guide and master tracker. "The general rule is that you get what you pay for, from the number of guests in a game drive vehicle to the personalization of the experience." He also says to consider the access you'll get at a private lodge with guides who can go off-road any time versus at a national park, where there are set hours and restrictions on the number of vehicles. "Sightings can be very congested," he adds.

2. Wearing the Wrong Colors

"Every time you see photos of people on a safari, they are decked out in khaki, cargo 'safari' outfits, but it's really not necessary," says Carrie Maldovan, cofounder of Above Safaris . But the right colors can help you blend into the setting, so that you don't distract the animals. "It's a good idea to pack neutral colors, like olive green and beige," says Pinto, adding that if your itinerary includes a bush walk, it's essential to avoid black or white, which are considered "danger" colors. Maldovan also says to avoid blue and black on game drives since tsetse flies and other insects tend to gravitate toward those shades.

3. Packing the Wrong Types of Clothes

While the impression is that safaris usually take place in warm weather climates, the temperatures do drop from day to night, so layers are key. "It's easy to forget about the crisp evenings and those really crisp early mornings when packing for a safari," says Samantha Couture, G Adventures ' director of product for Africa. "Nothing too formal is required. In general, even upscale lodges have a relaxed, casual dress code, so no need for anything fancier than pants and a clean shirt." Maldovan also reminds travelers of the conditions. "Most roads are dirt roads, so there is a lot of dust flying around — it's better to rewear your game drive gear and save your clean clothes for back at the lodge."

4. Not Listening to the Guides

"The expertise and knowledge of the guides make a critical difference to the safari experience and the safety of guests," says Pinto, advising people to inquire about the FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) qualifications of the guiding team before your trip, if you're headed to that region. Once you pick a company you trust, it's essential to listen to the guides. "From cultural misunderstandings to dangerous animal encounters, the biggest mistake that people can make on a safari is assuming they know best instead of listening to their professional safari guides and staff," says Maldovan. "These guides have extensive training that enables them to be the experts in all situations that can come up in the wild. Their job is to keep clients safe and give them an amazing experience. All the clients need to do is sit back, relax, and follow the directions of their guides."

5. Expecting to See Animals at Every Turn

Keep in mind that this is the animals' home turf — and not a theme park attraction. The animals' jobs are far from trying to entertain guests. Most of the game drives will take place in the (very) early morning and late afternoon to catch the animals at their most active. "Remember that you are in the wild and the animals are not tame," says Pinto. "Most guests are extremely respectful of their surroundings, but they often forget to put their phones on silent mode. Some even try to make noises to get the attention of animals for a photo. It's not a space to be brave or reckless."

6. Not Respecting the Locals

A major aspect of traveling to a safari destination is learning about the local culture. "The people I meet along the way are the reason I fall in love with a place," says Couture. "With this in mind, when taking photos of anyone, it's so important to ask for permission first… It's an instant way to convey respect and show your appreciation for the people around you sharing their story."

7. Fussing With New Equipment

As exciting as the idea of being a wildlife photographer is, a safari probably isn't the best place to try out brand-new equipment. "If you're not an experienced photographer, don't waste your money on a fancy DSLR camera," says Maldovan. "You'll end up wasting tons of time trying to figure out the camera and will probably not end up with very nice photos." She suggests sticking with a point-and-shoot camera and making sure you're familiar and comfortable with the device before the trip. Couture adds, "The quality of the camera on our phones these days is incredible, but it's important to remember that you will be in a vehicle most of the time on safari and may not have access to a charger, so battery life will come into play as well."

8. Forgetting Sunscreen and Bug Repellent

Even when it doesn't necessarily feel hot outside, you'll still be exposed to the elements, so remember to bring sunscreen — and reapply it throughout the day. Also, these locations are often home to insects. "Mosquito-borne illnesses are possible to contract in many safari destinations, but even more likely is the discomfort of having a ton of itchy mosquito bites," says Maldovan. Check with your doctor a few weeks before departure to see what is recommended for the particular area. That will give you plenty of time to get prescriptions, like malaria pills, some of which require a first dose 48 hours before travel.

9. Expecting the Comforts of Home

The hotels and lodges in safari destinations can be luxurious and stunning in terms of design and quality, but it's important to realize that you're also likely in a remote area without the strongest infrastructure. "Be open to the unique charm of a lodge," says Maldovan. "But you might need to wait for solar water to heat up your shower." That also means leaving some of your normal essentials, like a blow dryer or hair styler, at home, she adds, since lodges are often on solar power all around. Also, Wi-Fi and connectivity will often be patchy and limited to certain hours, so use it as an opportunity to truly disconnect. "A safari is an adventure, and if you embrace it, you'll get amazing hospitality and a truly wild experience, which will be much more memorable," she says.

10. Staying Behind the Camera

While it's so thrilling to snap photos of the incredible wildlife, Couture reminds travelers why they came so far. "Don't forget to get out from behind your camera," she says. "Making memories is what travel is all about — and photos are a huge part of that. But it's equally as important to smell, see, and feel the trip in real time. A safari can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and walking away with both photos and impactful moments is the best of both worlds."

These 4 New Jeep Safari 2024 Concepts Run From Retro To Outright Rude

I n Moab, Utah, from March 23 to 31, Jeep is once again holding its Easter Jeep Safari event. Easter has always been the time of year when Jeep shows off whatever wacky concepts it's working on, and the 58th annual event is no different. For this year, Jeep brought out four concepts: the Low Down, the Willys Dispatcher, the High Top, and the Vacationeer.

Starting from the least crazy, the Willys Dispatcher has the bones of a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and is supposed to call to mind the first generation of Jeeps meant for regular people who weren't in service in the European of Pacific Theaters of World War II. The powertrain is the same: a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor that outputs a combined 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

The body and aesthetics, however, are a different story. The paint is a color that Jeep is calling Element 115 Green, and the steelie-inspired wheels are 1950s cream-colored. The inside is saddle leather and cloth seats. To further give it a retro look, the headrests were removed because why not? It's a convertible with only the slightest impression of a conventional "roof." A huge embossed "Willys" logo on the hood completes the Jeep's classic vibe.

The Vacationeer And The High Top

Next is the Vacationeer. It's based on the Grand Wagoneer, only with a fairly substantial lift and the obligatory 35-inch tires. It sports a number of skid plates underneath for overlanding aptitude. But the centerpiece is the huge rooftop tent supplied by RedTail Overland, called the Skyloft. The interior temperature is adjustable (because, of course, it is), and can fit up to two people. It's powered by the twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engine that makes 510 horsepower (the same engine that will feature in the upcoming new Dodge Charger), and it's finished in a color called "Spearminted." A rooftop tent on a luxury SUV isn't that unusual, but in this case, the factory roof of the Grand Wagoneer has been removed, making Vacationeer essentially a two-story camping spot.

The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon High Top concept is fitted with 40-inch tires and an adjustable air suspension system. According to a Jeep press release, it was made to show the Gladiator's off-road credibility. It sports a "Ginger Snap" paint scheme and the tried and true Pentastar 3.6-liter V6.

The Jeep Low Down

Lastly, the Jeep Low Down Concept takes the cake for the most insane Jeep the automaker will show off. It's powered by the soon-to-be departed 392 V8 and is based on the Wrangler Rubicon 392. It has 42-inch tires on 20-inch wheels and is completely absurd, whatever angle you look at it. To make matters weirder, there's a clear cover on the hood so you can see the engine. Plus, there's no infotainment system to speak of. Jeep exterior designer Chris Piscitelli points out, there's a two-mode exhaust that can be set to "loud and entirely obnoxious: that's all the entertainment you need in this one." That's about as unambiguous of a reason you can have.

There's little chance the Jeep-buying public will see cars like the four Easter Safari concepts hit dealership lots anytime soon, and the event really acts as a testing ground for both Jeep engineers and the Jeep Performance Parts division. That said, it's hard not to get at least a little excited to see goofy factory Jeeps with wild (and in some cases impractical) modifications thrashing about the desert.

To much scams…please READ!

So whenever I use this app/ Safari it get these trackers and scammers to get my location and this is making me nervous. I installed ad blocker I think it’s called and I blocked some trackers which made me feel better. Every time you search something you usually get a scam or tracker. I do not like when people track me down. I rarely use this app because of the scams and risks. I think it is an OK app in general because it’s the people making these small BAD websites. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it could use work but it is pretty much like google. I use google way more because I feel like it is much safer than safari. I could be wrong… Safari could use some work with all these BAD websites. Can you block these bad websites? I would love to block these websites cause they are scary. Also watch out for nine anime/ 9anime websites… I searched up 9anime on safari and clicked a link. It looked safe but then these inappropriate pop ups kept coming. I immediately got off. I checked my ‘ How much trackers we have prevented’ or whatever it’s called it said that it had prevented 14 trackers from getting my IP address. This was good and bad news. I’m glad that safari and google can prevent these trackers but it is bad because this is dangerous. BE CAREFUL ON SAFARI!!!

Your Underrated Prince, Safari

In my humble opinion, Safari is the underrated king among multiple web browsers on the market. I was a PC devotee from ‘95 to ‘16, since then, it’s been all Tim Cook 🍎 all the time. My only regret is not purchasing a smartphone back in ‘07 from Steve Jobs. Presently, I own an iPhone 6s Plus in rose gold (2016), iPad Mini (2016), iPad Pro (2019) & MacBook (2018) in rose gold with matching Beats By Dre headphones. All four are set up with Safari, not Chrome, TOR, Brave, Edge, or DDGo. I love the ability to quickly save favorites, add to reading list & share content to other platforms. My favorites are alphabetized for quick reference & the reading list keeps all articles & pages in chronological order for quick recall. Also, I learned Safari quickly because it’s extremely user friendly. The browser helped my navigation of Apple when switching from PC. I’ll admit, learning MacBook isn’t easy, but, Safari keeps things familiar for me on the desktop. When lost, just go back to Safari & start over. It’s surprising no one in tech media mentions Safari more often as a go to source for navigating the internet. Chrome is the reigning king of, Land Of Browsers, without an heir apparent. I nominate Safari as the prince with future king potential. Citizens of Land Of Browsers don’t like their chrome-plated dirty laundry aired, sold or tracked.

This new layout is better IMO, but there are a few other problems that kinda bug me

Unpopular opinion, but this new layout is better. I don’t even remember the old layout since I’m not even a long-time iOS user (this is my first iPhone). I looked up the old layout or the “cascade” layout and it looks more painful to me than the new one. By the looks of it, it’s definitely easier to miss a tab you’re looking for in the older version, and then you will have to spend like 10 more minutes scrolling to find the tab you’re looking for. Sure, it may be “faster”, but it’s definitely harder to find the certain tab you’re looking for if most of the tabs are only viewable by a little area at the top. This app is mostly fine except for a few problems I get from time to time. Today I’m having a problem where I was trying to look at some Google images and then I tried to look at more but it was just stuck on loading. It wouldn’t even finish loading. This happened only on like 2 searches thankfully though. I’d probably give it a 95% since it has some minor lags and problems.

Paramedic sentenced to 4 years probation in connection with Elijah McClain's death

Three of the five first responders involved were convicted in McClain's death.

Former paramedic Jeremy Cooper has been sentenced to a four-year probationary sentence Friday after being found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the final case connected to Elijah McClain's 2019 death.

Prosecutors accused the Aurora, Colorado, paramedic and his co-defendant Peter Cichuniec of administering an excessive amount of ketamine to sedate the 23-year-old McClain after an encounter with police on August 24, 2019. According to department policy, administering ketamine to sedate a suspect is intended "to minimize time struggling."

The paramedics were accused of improperly assessing McClain medically before and after administering the dose of ketamine.

Both men were found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in December. Cichuniec and Cooper were both acquitted of assault in the second degree with intent to cause bodily injury causing serious bodily injury. Cooper was found not guilty of assault in the second-degree unlawful administration of drugs.

Both had pleaded not guilty to their charges.

As part of his sentence, Cooper will serve 14 months in a work release program and complete 100 hours of "useful public service," according to Judge Mark Warner.

Elijah McClain's mother, Sheneen McClain, held back tears as she read an impact statement before the sentencing. She said Cooper "followed the crowd of cowards," and did not show any remorse for his actions.

"I have already experienced so much and I am sure I still have much more to endure for my son," she said.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said in a statement that with the sentence there was "a measure of justice for Elijah McClain, his family, and loved ones."

"There were many things that the officers and paramedics could have done the night of August 24, 2019 to prevent this deadly encounter," he said.

Warner said it was "somewhat unusual, after being on the bench for 18 years, in criminal for at least half or more of that, being faced with such a situation where you have somebody who has really dedicated his life to helping other people, and yet being involved in a case of this nature, where a young man died for really no reason."

The judge added that Cichuniec was sentenced to five years in prison with a three-year period of parole for assault in the second-degree unlawful administration of drugs and criminally negligent homicide.

He received one year on the criminally negligent homicide conviction that will run concurrent to the five years for the assault conviction. The sentence for his offenses was reportedly expected to be between 5-and 16 years behind bars.

The death of the young Black man in an encounter with white police officers became another rallying cry for police reform in the wake of George Floyd's 2020 death.

Mcclain's death.

The 23-year-old was confronted by police while walking home from a convenience store after a 911 caller told authorities they had seen someone "sketchy" in the area.

McClain was unarmed and wearing a ski mask at the time. His family says he had anemia, a blood condition that can make people feel cold more easily.

When officers arrived on the scene, they told McClain they had a right to stop him because he was "being suspicious."

In police body camera footage, McClain can be heard telling police he was going home, and that "I have a right to go where I am going."

Officer Nathan Woodyard placed McClain in a carotid hold and he and the other two officers on the scene moved McClain by force to the grass and restrained him.

When EMTs Cooper and Cichuniec arrived, McClain was given a shot of 500 milligrams of ketamine to sedate him and he was loaded into an ambulance where he had a heart attack, according to investigators.

McClain's cause of death, which was previously listed as "undetermined," was listed in an amended autopsy report as "complications of ketamine administration following forcible restraint." The manner of death remained listed as "undetermined" as it was in the initial report.

McClain weighed 143 pounds, but was given a higher dose of ketamine than recommended for someone his size and overdosed, according to Adams County coroner's office pathologist Stephen Cina.

Cichuniec and Cooper diagnosed McClain with "excited delirium," after approximately two minutes on the scene, according to the indictment.

Excited delirium is characterized by the FBI as a "potentially deadly medical condition involving psychotic behavior, elevated temperature, and an extreme fight-or-flight response by the nervous system."

State attorney Shannon Stevenson explained to the jury during the paramedics' trial that the only time paramedics are allowed to administer ketamine is if the patient is suffering from excited delirium and is a danger to themselves and others.

The prosecution argued that Cichuniec and Cooper failed to give McClain adequate medical assessments before administering the ketamine when they arrived at the scene. Prosecutors also criticized the paramedics for waiting 6 minutes before checking McClain for a pulse after administering the ketamine.

"They intentionally injected Elijah McClain, who was laying on the ground, barely moving, struggling to breathe, with an overdose of ketamine without following a single step of their training and protocols," Stevenson said during Cichuniec and Cooper's trial. "They conducted no assessment. They didn't speak a word to Elijah. They didn't put a finger on him. And then they overdosed him with 150% of the dose someone his size should have gotten. And then they failed to even check on him until this pulse was gone. They knew better."

Cooper's defense attorney argued there is a lack of protocol for the situation these paramedics found themselves in, citing the aggravated police presence, the way paramedics say they had to estimate McClain's weight with police on top of him, the way to determine who had authority at the scene, and the protocols to accurately assess if a patient is suffering from excited delirium.

McClain died on Aug. 30, 2019, three days after doctors pronounced him brain dead and he was removed from life support, officials said.

Former police officer Randy Roedema was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide and assault in the third degree in McClain's death. He was sentenced to over one year in the county jail in January.

Two other officers, Jason Rosenblatt and Woodyard, were found not guilty on charges of reckless manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Rosenblatt was also acquitted on charges of assault in the second degree.

Ben Rothwell explains why he spars ‘religiously’ but doesn’t go full Sean Strickland with teammates

go 4 safari

Sparring used to be a staple for every fighter competing in combat sports. But in recent years, with more and more information available about injuries and brain trauma, many athletes have cut that out of their consistent training regimens.

Don’t count Ben Rothwell among them.

The BKFC heavyweight, who spent more than a decade competing in the UFC, swears by sparring as a major part of his fight preparation, but he’s adamant about the kind of work he’s doing with his teammates. While there are countess videos out there of fighters beating the hell out of each other in sparring sessions, which leads to knockouts and unnecessary damage, Rothwell insists that’s not what happens in his gym.

“I spar religiously every week,” Rothwell told MMA Fighting. “I know a lot of people get away from sparring. I’m really good at sparring. I enjoy it. It’s a great way for me to get cardio.

“It’s not about, ‘I’ve got to hit them as hard as I can!’ I wouldn’t have any sparring partners then. It’s the work. It’s the speed, the movement, and getting very exhausted. Doing that type of technical work, that I’ve been doing for the last couple of years heavy.”

Rothwell explains that he’s very specific about the people he invites into his sparring sessions, but despite having a significant size advantage, he even counts flyweights among the people he uses for rounds to get ready for his fights.

That might sound nonsensical, but Rothwell says there are looks he gets from bigger and smaller sparring partners that pay dividends. It also speaks to training safely so everybody walks away unscathed.

“I love the reaction time, defense, all the things that come with it that pad work, a bag, they cannot give you,” Rothwell said. “They cannot give you that reaction and the things that I have to work on with a sparring partner. The thing is, I don’t just have random people. I’m very lucky. I have two main heavyweights, both are bigger than me. One is a Golden Gloves [boxer], one is going pro in boxing, so really solid guys. I’ve got a few other guys in the wings that come and go, here and there. And then my group of guys, my fight team, who are 205 [pounds] and underneath, I spar with all of those guys too. That’s kind of fun to do. I can spar with 170, 155-pound fighters.

“I pride myself on sparring dudes bigger than me all the way down to Cody Linne, who is 125 pounds. I spar all those people, for a whole hour, and everybody walks away healthy. To me, that’s a win.”

While some teammates have praised the methods of former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland , his approach has become synonymous with those jaw-rattling sparring sessions. Ex-UFC champion Luke Rockhold accused Strickland of going too hard during sessions where “he’ll try to kill you” , and described how Strickland wobbled one training partner during a round then spent the last 30 seconds throwing head kicks trying to score the knockout.

Rothwell has never spent anytime training with Strickland, but he promises that’s not the kind of sparring that happens in his gym. In fact, he knows if Strickland or anybody like that tried to throw down with him like that in the ring, it wouldn’t end well for them.

“I’m really particular about who I let in,” Rothwell said. “I don’t just let certain guys from other gyms come in, because if they have Sean Strickland mentality — if Sean Strickland and I started sparring and he acted like that, I’m putting him down. I’m putting the dude down and he’s staying there. He’s 100 percent going to get hurt.

“That’s not good for anybody. I lose a training partner, somebody’s injured, it’s stupid. You get paid to fight on fight night. You leave that for fight night.”

Of course, Rothwell finds time to test his power and improve on those skills as well, but he’s not doing it against the partners he wants to come back to work with him on a daily basis.

“When do I hit my hardest? Yeah, that’s when we work on the pads and the bag work, those things can take it,” Rothwell said. “You let that full power go so you can get used to that conditioning.

“But none of those things can mimic a person who is randomly throwing things, moving things, doing things. I love that reaction. The technique, the defense. As long as you have people who have learned how to spar, it’s technical sparring, it’s an awesome tool. It’s great to have.”

Since moving to BKFC, Rothwell implemented sparring as a main part of his training camps because he’s no longer putting his body through the rigors of a full MMA workout, which can be incredibly grueling.

As he prepares to fight Todd Duffee at BKFC KnuckleMania 4 on Saturday, Rothwell has largely prepared the same way he has for everybody else in bare-knuckle, while implementing some specific looks from his training partners to mimic Duffee.

That way, he gets what he needs to prepare for Duffee, and his sparring partners are learning from him along the way, but nobody is getting beaten up, knocked out, or worse.

“That’s rogue sparring,” Rothwell said. “[People who say,] ‘I’m going to do what I want, I don’t care who I’m going with.’ You’re just fighting without getting paid.”

Cowboys draft Marshawn Kneeland: Dallas sees 'similarities' between No. 56 pick, DeMarcus Lawrence

Kneeland didn't expect to hear from the cowboys, and he didn't hear much about his future role.

NFL Combine

FRISCO, Texas --  The Dallas Cowboys and their first round pick (29th overall) Tyler Guyton had eyes for each other seemingly the entire draft process .

That was not the case for their second-round pick, Western Michigan defensive Marshawn Kneeland , the 56th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft .

Kneeland categorized his level of communication with the Cowboys leading up to his second-round selection, 56th overall as "decent." The fifth-year senior, who is 6-foot-3, 267 pounds with 34 1/4-inch arms and a 4.75 40-yard dash, possesses the ideal build for an NFL edge rusher. Dallas' front office sees a lot of their own four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence in Kneeland, which is some lofty praise.

"The number one thing about him is the high effort and motor that he plays with," Cowboys VP of Player Personnel Will McClay said Friday night. "Then to be talented, physically talented enough to play at this level. We noticed him early on. [Brett] Maxie is the area scout who brought him to our attention early, and the more you watched him, the more you see NFL traits and the traits that we are looking for on the defensive side; playing hard all the time and having the ability to rush the passer outside and inside. We've talked about it before, as hard as DLaw [DeMarcus Lawrence] played at Boise State, there are some similarities there. That is what we thought about him."

An informal visit at the NFL Scouting Combine and a Zoom call made up all of his communication with Dallas during the pre-draft process. Kneeland had a short and sweet answer when asked if he was surprised to receive the draft night call from the Cowboys.

"Yes," Kneeland said with a laugh on a conference call with local media.

However, once the surprise faded for the 2023 Second-Team All-Mac selection, excitement kicked in.

"Excited, definitely excited," Kneeland said. "Surprised because obviously it's always a surprise. You're like 'whoa, I just got picked.' [I'm] Just excited. Just happy to be here."

He is now set to join the NFL's top pass rush (45% quarterback pressure rate in 2023), led by three-time All-Pro Micah Parsons who totaled a league-best 103 quarterback pressures last season.

"Very excited, glad to be able to go there and get to work with some obviously talented, hard-working guys, and I'll be able to go and expand and do what I can to impact the team," Kneeland said.

"We didn't specifically go over it too much," Kneeland said when asked if head coach Mike McCarthy or general manager Jerry Jones mentioned what his role in Dallas will be. "I'm assuming probably defensive line; move around there. Wherever they need me."

Kneeled was close to transferring to Colorado for his fifth year of college football , but he returned to Western Michigan after the team's director of strength and conditioning, Grant Geib, and assistant strength and conditioning coach Kyle Murray were retained in Kalamazoo. The loyal pass rusher described his style of play as "violent, physical, high motor, high motor, high effort." The Cowboys concurred, which is why they drafted him.

"The thing that attracted us to D-Law [DeMarcus Lawrence] back when he was coming out [in 2014] was the incredible effort that he played was that same effort that you see on Sundays now still, after as many years as he played. That shows he loves the game. When that attracts you, it's something that you put in your rolodex and go if I see that, I know what it looks like and what it can do. Just watching him play, he's bouncing off of people and he's chasing screens down. All of those things are some of the things that D-Law [DeMarcus Lawrence] did when he was at Boise State. Plus, there's rush upside, there's the ability to play outside and controlling the C gap and the rush ends. There's a lot of things that you can count on because that motor is always going to be there."

Now, the player Cowboys hope can be DeMarcus Lawrence 2.0 gets to spend his rookie year with the all-star, original version.

"I mean there's nothing like veteran leadership and veteran leadership carries you so much further than you've ever been," Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said. "I think that's a really strong focal point for us. We have the rookie orientation here in two weeks. We spend a lot of time just make sure that the rookies are ready to be acclimated to our environment and how we do things. From the day they walk in there with the veterans on that Monday, that's the biggest door that they'll walk through. The connection that they'll have with the locker room. Yes, definitely. To have the D-Law's ... On the other side of it, talking to [Cowboys first-round pick] Tyler [Guyton] before the press conference this morning, the ability to be able to sit next to Zack Martin and Tyler Smith to ask those questions. There's nothing like veteran leadership, and I think we have an incredible group to lead them."

Police officers and university administrators have clashed with pro-Palestinian protesters on a growing number of college campuses across the country in recent days, arresting students, removing encampments and threatening academic consequences.

The fresh wave of student activism against the war in Gaza was sparked by the arrest of at least 108 protesters at Columbia University on April 18, after administrators appeared before Congress and promised a crackdown. Since then, police interventions on several campuses, including in some of America’s largest cities, have led to more than 600 arrests.

Here is where arrests have been reported as the authorities attempt to break up protests or encampments:

Columbia University : The New York City Police Department arrested 108 demonstrators while clearing an encampment at the Manhattan campus on April 18.

Yale University in New Haven, Conn.: The police arrested 48 people on Monday, including 44 Yale students, after they refused to leave an encampment on campus.

New York University in Manhattan: Officers made dozens of arrests late Monday after students occupied a plaza on campus.

University of Minnesota in Minneapolis: Nine people were taken into custody after they erected an encampment on Tuesday. All of those affiliated with the university were allowed back on campus and civil trespass warnings were “set aside.”

University of South Carolina in Columbia: Two students were arrested after a protest on Tuesday, according to a police report.

University of Southern California in Los Angeles: The police arrested 93 people at a demonstration on Wednesday afternoon.

University of Texas at Austin : The police arrested 57 protesters on Wednesday. A spokeswoman for the county attorney’s office said charges against many had been dropped after the office found legal “deficiencies” in their arrests.

Emerson College in Boston: The police arrested 118 people as an encampment was cleared on Wednesday night, the authorities said.

Ohio State University in Columbus: A university official said that 36 people, including 16 students, were arrested on Thursday. Earlier in the week, two students were arrested during an on-campus demonstration, university officials said.

Emory University in Atlanta: At least 28 people were arrested on Thursday morning, an Emory official said; 20 had ties to the school.

Indiana University in Bloomington: The university police department said 33 people were removed from an encampment on Thursday and taken to jail.

Princeton University in New Jersey: Two graduate students were arrested after pitching tents on Thursday.

University of Connecticut in Storrs: Campus police officers removed at least one tent from a rally on Thursday and took at least one person into custody, a university official said.

California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt : Protesters have occupied two buildings on the campus in Arcata, Calif., university officials said. Three people were arrested there this week.

Auraria Campus in Denver: About 40 people were arrested on Friday at a campus that houses facilities for the University of Colorado Denver, the Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Community College of Denver, the campus police said.

Arizona State University in Tempe: A university official said three people were arrested on Friday after protesters set up an encampment.

University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign : Social media posts on Friday showed police officers detaining at least one person and taking down an encampment.

Northeastern University in Boston: The Massachusetts State Police said that 102 protesters were arrested on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the university said that among those who were detained, students who showed their university IDs were released.

Halina Bennet, Nicholas Bogel-Burroughs , Robert Chiarito , Jill Cowan , Matthew Eadie , Colbi Edmonds , Jacey Fortin , J. David Goodman , Johnna Margalotti, Erin Nolan , Jenna Russell , Edgar Sandoval and Jonathan Wolfe contributed reporting.

Because of an editing error, an earlier version of this article misstated when students at Princeton started to pitch tents. They erected tents on Thursday, not Wednesday.
