Google 360 Tour Guide to Virtual Walkthroughs for Businesses

Google Street View

Have you heard about a Google 360 Tour?  Whether you’re an SEO enthusiast or simply a digitally savvy small business looking for ways to bring in more customers, you already know the importance of optimizing for local search.

Google Street View

Through the technology of Google Streetview , a Google 360 Tour is a virtual representation of your business. These tours will help boost your local search rankings, expand your audience, build trust among your customers, and is a downright essential tactic for getting found online.

As a retailer, we can agree that having an online presence is excellent, but it isn’t the same as visiting a storefront in person.

For all the local customers ready to buy what you’re offering, without seeing the actual business, it can be hard for them to get a good sense of what you’re like to help them make a good decision.

And the truth is, that can lead your ideal customers to keep on looking elsewhere for what you’re selling.

That is until Google 360 Virtual Tours .

A Google Maps Virtual Tour will let you showcase what it’s like being at your brick-and-mortar store in person. And it’s a powerful way to bring more of your perfect customers right through your front door.

This guide takes you through everything you need to know about Google 360 Virtual Tours, including what they are, how they can help, what they cost, and much, much more.

Let’s jump in.

Panorama Image For A 360 Virtual Tour

A Google 360 Virtual Tour is a series of panoramic images that take users through your business’s physical storefront.

Multiple panoramic photos together (stitched) create a full 360-degrees “walkthrough” of your business, just like Google Street View.

Visitors can move forwards or backward, go into rooms, and enjoy an entire field of view, just like if they were there in person.

The images for Google 360 Virtual Tours are taken either by a Trusted Google Photographer or a Google Trusted Agency using special equipment called 360-degree cameras (or omnidirectional cameras).

These virtual tours can also be connected to and listed on (among other places) your Google Business Profile (GBP), formerly known as Google My Business —an essential part of any local SEO strategy .

You can also place them onto your website and social media outlets using a simple snippet of code.

Google 360 Tour Example

Google 360 Virtual Tours are more than just a simple glance around your business.

There are plenty of ways this innovative marketing tactic can help your business grow and thrive.

Below are some of the most impactful benefits a Google 360 Virtual Tour can have on your business.

Better Promotes Your Business

First and foremost, a Google 360 Tour brings more clients and customers to your door (isn’t that the point of anything you do?).

There are a few ways a virtual tour accomplishes this.

Leads To Better Google Map Rankings

A better and more complete Google Business Profile is more likely to rank higher on Google Maps and other local searches.

Adding a virtual tour to your page is another great tactic to add to your profile and boost your keywords rankings. And this means more customers :)

Expands Your Brand’s Reach

Google 360 virtual tours are a fantastic way to ramp up your business’s digital presence. As of the 4th quarter of 2021, there are 37,000 local searches a second (or 1.17 trillion each year).

Your ideal customers are looking for businesses online. And adding a virtual tour to your digital marketing efforts is just one more way you can bring more ready-to-buy searchers like these into your store.

Causes More Engagement

The average session duration across industries is about 4 minutes and 25 seconds . But the longer your customers spend researching your business, the more likely they’ll be to buy your product or give you a call.

A virtual tour keeps your users engaged with your website’s content and increases session duration, giving you more time to win them over.

Builds Trust With New Customers

As they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words. But you don’t have to do the math to know that a virtual tour is far and away more effective at showcasing your business than a word-by-word description. And it’s more effective at building trust.

Think of it like this. Say you were looking for an accounting service equipped to handle businesses with 150+ employees.

After a bit of research, you finally land on one. But when you head to the address, you find that the service is just a single accountant renting out a one-room suite.  It doesn’t seem like a match now.  Not that there is anything wrong with a single-staffed company.

Instead, a Google 360 Virtual Tour gives your customers a behind-the-scenes look at your business to help them feel more comfortable.

But when your potential customers digitally walk through your store, they’re not just getting a feel for your business. They’re also getting closer to trusting you as a possible, reliable provider.

And the more they trust you, the more likely they’ll be to buy from you.

Is Very Cost-Effective

One of the best things about Google 360 Virtual Tours is that they can be an incredibly cost-effective way of promoting (and running) your business.

Despite an initial upfront investment in the proper hardware, there aren’t any additional expenses.

There’s minimal software needed for editing and stitching images together, they’re not too hard to post to Google Business Profile, and they’re a valuable piece of marketing collateral you can use across plenty of platforms.

The biggest financial hurdles are the equipment and the time investment, so many businesses decide to leave it to the professionals .

Keeps You Visible (Open 24/7)

Like other digital marketing assets, a virtual tour lets you keep your business’s doors open 24/7—digitally, at least.

A 2020 report found that the peak hours for buying products online were from 8 pm to 9 pm. But this doesn’t just apply to online stores. People are researching businesses after closing time, too.

A well-made website will, of course, help educate your potential customers about your products and your business.

But a Google 360 Virtual Tour will help them see what it’s like inside your doors.

And for those who can’t make it during your open hours, this glimpse inside could be what they precisely need to pull the trigger the next day.

Available Across All Devices

Virtual Tour on a Mobile Device

The age of desktop-only searches is long gone. Today, mobile searches are averaging 60%.

Tablets, smartphones, and even hot spot-connected laptops make up the bulk of how people are finding your business online.

And if you aren’t optimizing for mobile, you’re dealing your revenue numbers a severe blow.

Plus, experts predict mobile traffic will continue to grow.

Luckily, Google has made virtual tours especially optimized for mobile.

Some virtual tours even allow searchers to “look around” your business by changing the position of the smart device.

When you create your Google 360 Virtual Tour, you’re capitalizing on this growing trend by adding one more layer of mobile optimization to your business.

Now that we’ve outlined some of the most significant benefits of Google 360 Virtual Tours, let’s get into some statistics.

Take a look at the stats below from Google and Visual Objects to get a better perspective on just what Google 360 Virtual Tours can do for you.

  • Listings with photos and virtual tours are 2X as likely to generate interest.
  • Complete listings (e.g., ones that feature virtual tours) inspire trust and are 78% more likely to be viewed as well-established.
  • Listings with photos and tours motivate customers to purchase 29% of the time.
  • More than 3 out of 4 consumers look for a company’s online presence before visiting a business in person.
  • On average, 41% of business searches on Google Maps result in an onsite visit. That number tends to be even higher for businesses that feature a virtual tour on their Google Business Profile listing.
  • A whopping 62% of visitors prefer listings with views of business interiors through images or virtual tours.

People research businesses online before visiting them in person. And it’s also clear that a complete Google Business Profile, virtual tours, and a robust online presence, in general, all help bring in more ready-to-buy customers.

Ricoh Theta Z1 51GB Camera

Virtual tours require a 360-degree camera, also known as an omnidirectional camera.

Most cameras typically only cover, at most, a 180-degree field of view in a single shot.

On the other hand, an omnidirectional camera covers about 360-degrees—sometimes it’s a bit less and is compensated for by the equipment.

With that said, not all omnidirectional cameras are of the same quality.

And while shooting with a budget 360-degree camera can get you the type of images you want, they certainly won’t have the quality to make your business look great along the way.

That’s why we recommend using cameras with, at minimum, the following specs:

  • 23MP (6720×3360, 7K) still image shooting
  • Lenses that reduce ghosting, flare, and purple fringe
  • Aperture offers F2.1, F2.5, and F5.6 for great depth of field, even in low light conditions
  • 4K (3840×1920, 29.97fps) quality spherical video
  • a 1.0″ in back-illuminated CMOS image sensor for superior noise reduction performance
  • Dual format simultaneous saving (RAW DNG and JPEG)
  • 4-channel microphone to independently record sound from 4 different directions when shooting video

The answer here is this—probably less time than you’d imagine. A basic tour takes a few days, start to finish.

The total cost, and time, are dependent on the number of viewpoints (number of steps in the tour).

In most cases, recording a single 360-degree viewpoint will take 1-2 minutes.  The crew could essentially be in and out of your business in just a few hours.

For larger shoots (e.g., 40 viewpoints), allow for around a half-day of shooting alone.

On average, from consultation to publishing, expect one to two weeks for a professional to create a beautiful end product.

That’s the beauty of it—you can publish your Google 360 Virtual Tour almost anywhere online.

The most important place you’ll want to publish first is on your Google Business Profile listing.

Your listing is how Google learns about your business, understands what you have to offer, and directs customers to you on platforms like Google Maps.

Few things are more impactful for small businesses than having an accurate and content-rich GBP listing. And adding a virtual tour to yours is a fantastic way to rank higher and increase traffic coming your way.

Beyond GBP, you can also publish your virtual tour on:

  • Social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram
  • Your website
  • Video hosting platforms like YouTube

The best agencies will be able to handle integrating your new Google 360 Virtual Tour throughout all of these platforms.

Star Buds, a Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Use the menu to quickly browse.

Above & Beyond Wellness Spa

The cost of your Google 360 Virtual Tour comes down to which agency you choose. Some will base their rate on the number of rooms. And others will use the number of viewpoints.

Some agencies will also charge you based on the types of services you use. For instance, they may charge a premium for editing and stitching.

Or they may upcharge you for posting your video to your website or Google.

In the end, many business owners find an all-inclusive fee of not more than $35 per viewpoint to be fair.

They should include onsite shooting, editing, stitching, and uploading your video to your marketing platforms, including GBP, of course.

Here again, it depends on which agency you hire. Some may provide just a few of the services below in their package. Adding on any others may require additional charges.

However, the best agency packages should include:

  • Free consultation via a phone call
  • An onsite walkthrough (walk through each viewpoint to tally project scope)
  • Travel time to and from your business to our office
  • Viewpoint recordings “a-la-carte” as needed
  • Individual viewpoints (still photos) shot
  • Finalized 360° Virtual Tour of your business
  • Google Street View integration
  • Google Maps integration
  • QR Code to 360° Virtual Tour
  • Enhanced Google Search Results
  • Free snippet to display 360° Virtual Tour on your website
  • No recurring fees – one-time fee

Since most business owners will choose to work with a professional virtual tour company instead of handling it themselves (typically cheaper), let’s go through what you can expect from that process.

Every agency will handle the process differently. But for most, the process will look something like this:

  • Consultation – This is when you’ll learn more about what to expect from your virtual tour and the process.
  • Site Walkthrough – Many agencies will conduct an onsite walkthrough to explore the details of your location, what viewpoints should be covered, and more.
  • Estimate – After adding up the number of viewpoints that’s right for your location, assessing the editing involved, and factoring in other price considerations, you’ll receive a custom estimate for the process.
  • Approval & Scheduling – After you’ve accepted the terms, you’ll work together to figure out a proper time and date to schedule your Google 360 Virtual Tour.
  • Onsite Recordings – On the shoot, the photography team will move from viewpoint to viewpoint capturing 360-degree images of your business.
  • Edit, Stitch & Complete – Once shooting is over, your team will head back to their space to edit the photos together and send the tour through quality assurance for the best outcome.
  • Delivery – Last but not least, your team will deliver the custom code for the tour so you can use it right on your website. Some agencies will even post it to your Google Business Profile listing for you as a part of the process.

A lot of work goes into creating a Google 360 Virtual Tour. But when done correctly, it can bring a massive boon of new customers to your door.

And though some SEO management agencies provide the service, not all will be able to create an end product that does your business justice.

Creating a 360 Virtual Tour: A Comprehensive Guide

Introduction.

In the age of digital innovation, 360 virtual tours have become a powerful tool for businesses, educators, and marketers to provide immersive experiences. Unlike traditional photos and videos, 360 virtual tours allow viewers to explore environments interactively, creating a sense of presence and engagement that static media cannot achieve. Whether you’re showcasing real estate properties, museums, or educational institutions, creating an effective 360 virtual tour requires careful planning, precise shooting, and meticulous post-production. This guide will take you through the entire process, from planning and preparation to shooting and post-production, ensuring you create a captivating and professional virtual tour.

Table of Contents

Planning and Preparation

Steps to plan a 360 virtual tour.

The first step in creating a successful 360 virtual tour is thorough planning. A well-structured plan helps streamline the production process and ensures that the final product meets your objectives.

  • Define Your Goals: Determine the purpose of your virtual tour. Are you showcasing a property, a tourist destination, or an educational site? Understanding your goals will guide the content and structure of your tour.
  • Identify Your Audience: Knowing your target audience is crucial. Consider their preferences, interests, and technological capabilities. This will influence the style, content, and technical aspects of your tour.
  • Choose Locations: Select the locations you want to include in your tour. Ensure they align with your goals and provide a comprehensive experience for your audience. Consider factors such as lighting, accessibility, and the relevance of each location.
  • Create a Budget: Establish a budget that covers all aspects of the production, including equipment, software, personnel, and post-production costs. A clear budget helps manage resources efficiently and avoid unexpected expenses.
  • Schedule the Shoot: Plan a detailed schedule that outlines the dates and times for shooting each location. Consider factors such as weather conditions, availability of locations, and any special events that might impact the shoot.

Storyboarding and Scripting

Storyboarding and scripting are essential steps in the planning process. They help visualize the tour and ensure a coherent narrative.

  • Develop a Script: Write a script that outlines the flow of the tour, including key points of interest, transitions, and any narration or voiceover. The script should align with your goals and provide a clear, engaging narrative for your audience.
  • Create a Storyboard: A storyboard is a visual representation of your script. It includes sketches or photos of each scene, along with notes on camera angles, lighting, and other details. The storyboard helps visualize the tour and serves as a guide during shooting.
  • Plan Interactivity: Decide on the interactive elements you want to include, such as hotspots, informational overlays, and navigation links. Plan their placement and content to enhance the user experience and provide valuable information.

Shooting 360 Content

Best practices for capturing 360 photos and videos.

Capturing high-quality 360 photos and videos requires attention to detail and adherence to best practices.

  • Use the Right Equipment: Invest in a high-quality 360 camera that meets your needs. Consider factors such as resolution, image stabilization, and ease of use. Popular options include the Insta360 Pro 2, Ricoh Theta Z1, and GoPro Max.
  • Stabilize Your Camera: Use a tripod or monopod to keep your camera steady and avoid shaky footage. Ensure the tripod is stable and level to capture clear, consistent images.
  • Consider Lighting: Proper lighting is crucial for high-quality 360 content. Avoid harsh shadows and overexposure by shooting during the golden hours (early morning or late afternoon). Use portable LED lights if necessary to illuminate indoor spaces evenly.
  • Mind Your Positioning: Place the camera at eye level to provide a natural perspective for viewers. Avoid positioning the camera too close to walls or objects, as this can distort the image.
  • Capture Multiple Angles: For comprehensive coverage, capture multiple angles of each location. This provides flexibility during post-production and ensures you don’t miss any important details.

Tips for Different Environments

Different environments present unique challenges for capturing 360 content. Here are some tips for common scenarios:

  • Indoor Spaces: Indoor lighting can be tricky. Use additional lighting to brighten dark areas and reduce shadows. Pay attention to reflections and mirrors, as they can create unwanted artifacts in your images.
  • Outdoor Locations: Weather conditions can significantly impact your shoot. Plan for good weather and avoid shooting in harsh sunlight or adverse conditions. Use ND filters to manage exposure in bright environments.
  • Crowded Areas: Capturing 360 content in crowded areas can be challenging. Plan your shoot during off-peak hours to avoid crowds. If this is not possible, use editing techniques to remove unwanted people from the final images.
  • Small Spaces: In tight or confined spaces, careful camera placement is crucial to avoid distortion. Use a monopod to position the camera in areas where a tripod won’t fit.

Post-Production

Editing and stitching 360 content.

Post-production is where your 360 content comes to life. This process involves stitching images or videos, editing for quality, and adding interactive elements.

  • Stitching Images and Videos: Use specialized software to stitch the images or videos captured by your 360 camera. Popular options include PTGui , Autopano Giga , and the software provided by your camera manufacturer. Ensure the stitching is seamless and free of visible lines or artifacts.
  • Editing for Quality: Use photo or video editing software to enhance the quality of your 360 content. Adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation to achieve a balanced look. Remove any unwanted elements or imperfections, such as dust spots or lens flares.
  • Color Correction: Consistent color is essential for a professional-looking tour. Use color correction tools to ensure all scenes have a uniform color balance and match the intended look and feel of your tour.
  • Audio Editing: If your tour includes audio, ensure it is clear and well-mixed. Remove background noise and balance the levels of narration, music, and ambient sounds.

Adding Interactive Elements

Interactive elements enhance the user experience and provide additional information. Here are some key interactive features to consider:

  • Hotspots: Hotspots are clickable areas within the tour that provide additional information or navigation. Use hotspots to highlight points of interest, provide detailed descriptions, or link to external resources.
  • Navigation Links: Allow users to navigate through the tour using interactive links or buttons. This can include directional arrows, thumbnails, or a map interface.
  • Informational Overlays: Add informational overlays that provide context and details about specific locations or features. These can include text, images, videos, and audio.
  • Multimedia Elements: Enhance your tour with multimedia elements such as background music, narration, and embedded videos. These elements add depth and engagement to the tour.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) Integration: For an immersive experience, consider integrating your tour with VR. Ensure your content is compatible with VR headsets and provide users with the option to view the tour in VR mode.

Create FREE virtual tours with Google TourCreator! (See a sample; and see which camera to get)

Create free virtual tours with Google TourCreator

At Google I/O 2018, Google announced the launch of a new free tool for creating virtual tours, called TourCreator!  You can build a tour using your own 360 cameras, or the 360 photos on Street View.

The tours can include points of interest and image overlays, and will be easily shareable.  The key is that TourCreator is simple enough for anyone to use and doesn’t require coding.

Google TourCreator features 360 photos, points of interest, image overlays, and easy sharing

Virtual tours will be hosted on Google Poly .   In the future, virtual tours can be exported to Google Expeditions, Google’s VR teaching tool.  I’m not sure if Google will eventually allow tours to be posted on Street View.

If you’d like to shoot your own 360 photos but don’t have a 360 camera, check out the most affordable good quality 360 camera, the Samsung Gear 360 , which takes 30mp photos but is now under $70.  The Gear 360 was designed to work with high-end Samsung phones (Samsung S6 and above) but you can actually use it to take 360 photos with any phone, whether Android or iOS!

The trick is to use the Google Streetview app (available on iOS or Android).  From the Streetview app, you can take a photo with the Gear 360.

Ok. I was so excited about this I was up till 1am getting a tour I had done back in 2000 up onto this simple tours website. A few notes; 1) It is absolutely the easiest tour maker I have ever used. 2) You must do this on desktop or laptop, trying to create a tour on mobile directs you to try again on desktop or laptop. 3) I did mine on in the Chrome browser, however looks like you can do it on IE or Edge as long as you login with your Google ID. However….. 4) looks like finished tour panos do not work in IE or Edge, just loads the about and title, however the panos themselves are just black areas. Works like a champ on Chrome. Even works on iOS with the Safari browser, although the Google cardboard mode is not available in Safari. (I don’t know if Chrome on iOS would support the cardboard mode…) 5) Even though my panos are 2000×1000 pixels, exactly 2:1 aspect ratio, there is obvious pinching at the top and bottom nadir. Seems this is just me.. not sure. Maybe it’s the low resolution of my panos. 6) The order you load each pano is the order they are presented in the finished tour, however you can shift the order around during editing. 7) There does not seem to be any pano to pano linking, or top-down mini-map ability. The panos are run in a sequence, you design and the order can be revised any time and then the tour re-published, but skipping from living room directly to the back laundry room is not possible, you have to go through the hall, then the kitchen, then the back laundry room. 8) Hotspots support a single static image per hotspot and supporting text. No audio or video hotspot support so far. Is a Google Virtual Tour Worth It?

Is a Google Virtual Tour Worth It? 9 Reasons It Can Benefit Your Business

No matter how unique your services and products are and how significantly they contribute to people’s lives, your brand’s online image still matters. All of us judge books by their cover, and that’s why the first impression has become such a central concept in marketing. When viewers search for your business online, the first thing they notice is the way you present your brand.

Many factors contribute to a long-lasting first impression. For instance, a well-designed website can be a determining factor in convincing prospective leads to purchase your products. Social media presence is another great example where you can capture people’s attention and provide a compelling offer to impact a prospect’s decision.

But few marketers appreciate the role of having a 360° virtual tour on your Google Business Listing. And that’s what we’re talking about today. Here, we will explore some of the benefits you can expect from a Google Virtual Tour. So, let’s dive in:

Is a Google Virtual Tour Worth It?

What Is a Google Virtual Tour?

Google virtual tour is an advanced technology that provides your customers with an interactive 360° view of your business. Google virtual tour is placed on your Google Maps Listing beneath your business’ photos and enables people to explore and interact with a digital or virtual version of your working environment while staying in the comfort of their homes.

Google designed this technology to enhance the viewers’ online experience and allow them to interact with physical spaces through digital tools. It also helps businesses to develop deeper, more reliable, and lasting connections with their prospective customers.

Keep in mind that 36% of customers prefer online purchasing methods over in-person shopping. That’s why adding a virtual online tour to your website or social media account is so important. Essentially the virtual tour is your golden ticket to getting more exposure and improving your brand’s visibility.

9 Benefits of Google Virtual Tour

As a business owner, you should direct all your efforts toward building a strong online presence with new customers and keeping your current ones engaged. But in today’s competitive market, having a sleek website or creating a couple of blog posts every few weeks won’t do the trick. You need to stand out from the crowd and offer something unique and engaging.

That’s where Google Virtual Tours come in. Adding this feature to your website gives viewers a sense of what your business is like and what they can expect when they visit in person. But that’s only the beginning. Here are some of the most significant advantages of this innovative marketing tool:

#1 Improve Your Online Visibility

The first thing about Google virtual tours is its ability to enhance the visibility of businesses of all sizes and across various industries. No matter how much recognition you get, or how big your organization is, you can still benefit from improving your place in your niche and receiving more brand awareness among audience segments you haven’t reached yet.

Google virtual tour allows people to explore and interact with virtual representations of your brand. This means you are relying on state-of-the-art marketing techniques to get more attention and drive people to your business platforms.

For example, if you are a restaurant owner, creating a Google virtual tour helps your prospective clients to explore the restaurant’s interior and exterior, view the menu, and get a feel for the ambiance of the restaurant. Similarly, if you own a retail store, using this tool allows you to showcase your products and attract more visitors.

#2 Increase Audience Engagement

As mentioned earlier, Google virtual tour is an engaging and interactive tool that allows people to explore and interact with a virtual version of your brand. This technology enables business owners to create immersive and informative experiences that are far more engaging than traditional marketing techniques.

For instance, if you are a school manager you know how parents are concerned about the safety and quality of your organization. By creating a Google virtual tour, you are letting them explore the campus, facilities, and resources. This also helps students have a more accurate picture of the school’s culture and atmosphere.

#3 Enhance Customer Experience

Google virtual tours can help all brands and businesses to improve their customer experience. Offering a virtual representation of your physical space is probably the best way to customize your communication channels with clients and let them explore your products and services at their own pace.

This is especially a great tool for service-based businesses like hotels. A Google virtual tour enables your prospective guests to explore and get a feel for the accommodations before making a reservation. This will significantly reduce the likelihood of customers being disappointed with their accommodations and increase customer satisfaction.

Similarly, if you own a gym, creating a virtual tour to showcase your equipment, motivating environment, and upbeat vibe can be an excellent way to encourage people to visit you. Plus, this is a great way to provide customers with more accurate information and remove potential obstacles that prevent them from making decisions.

#4 Save Money on Your Marketing Budget

Everything comes at a price. And sure enough, marketing has been one of the most expensive business practices over the past few decades. While some marketing efforts are costly and inevitable, not every technique costs you a fortune.

A Google virtual tour, for instance, is a great example of a cost-effective marketing tool that can provide businesses and institutions with a high return on investment. If you add up all the potential expenses involved in hiring professional teams, filming, and editing your audio-visual content, you’ll see that a virtual tour is much cheaper than most marketing tactics.

Creating a virtual tour can be the perfect choice for you especially if you are working on a shoestring budget and you need a quick boost in your visibility.

#5 Rank Higher on Search Engines

High ranking on search engine result pages (SERPs) is one of probably the most advantageous benefits you can get from a Google virtual tour. Notice that Google’s search algorithms favor websites that provide users with high-quality and engaging content. And creating a Google virtual tour is one of the best ways to provide engaging and quality content.

Google’s virtual tours can incorporate various multimedia elements such as sound effects, images, videos, music, narration, and more importantly text. This allows you to include relevant keywords and descriptions that can help to improve your search engine ranking for queries related to your business and get your site verified by the engine for those terms and keywords.

#6 Increase Sales

At the end of the day, nothing makes a business owner happier than an upward spike in sales. When people have a better understanding of your products and services via a Google Virtual Tour, you have a better chance of attracting and encouraging them to make a purchase.

Virtual tours are highly versatile which is a huge plus for showcasing your business in a way that your target audience finds appealing. Moreover, according to many surveys , businesses with a virtual tour are twice as likely to generate interest from potential customers than those without one.

#7 Stand Out from the Competition

In today’s crowded marketplace, it can be difficult for businesses to stand out from the competition. A Google Virtual Tour is your chance to outshine the competition. By providing customers with a unique and interactive way to explore your business, you can differentiate yourself from competitors who do not have a virtual tour.

According to another study , virtual tours double interest in the business which can give you the competitive edge you need to take a larger share in your niche.

#8 Boost SEO

No one can deny the power of SEO in improving every aspect of brand promotion. SEO is crucial because it makes your website visible which will translate into more organic traffic, more quality leads, and more opportunities to convert prospects into customers. While there are many ways to SEO-optimize your website, tools created by Google often are your best options.

Google Virtual Tour can also help to boost your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts by impacting various factors that determine which results will show up for viewers. One of these factors is the amount of time customers spend on your website. Since each virtual tour takes at least 1 to 2 minutes, you can easily maximize one of the most important KPIs in SEO.

#9 Improve Brand Credibility

Trust is a rare commodity in today’s market. Many customers view online marketing as some kind of scam and it can be hard to overcome this perception. If you want to gain trust, you should start with the basic principles of communication: transparency and openness. And certainly, offering a Google Virtual Tour is a great way to do that.

While brand credibility is essential for all industries, for some businesses it’s a matter of survival. For instance, healthcare facilities and financial services are among the industries that continuously strive to develop deeper relations with their customers.

Providing an accurate and detailed view of your business can help customers feel more confident about doing business with you. Moreover, a Virtual Tour showcases your business’s unique features and selling points, helping potential customers feel more confident that they’re making the right decision by choosing your business over your competitors.

Tips for a Successful Google Virtual Tour

Thus far, we have established the numerous benefits of adding virtual tours to your website. But you may still wonder what’s the most effective approach. Here are some tips to ensure that your Google Virtual Tour is a success:

Is a Google Virtual Tour Worth It?

Photo by Md Iftekhar Uddin Emon from Pexels

#1 Do Some Preparation

Before the photo shoot, make sure that your working space, office, and facility are clean and organized. Remove any clutter or distractions that may negatively impact the Virtual Tour and make sure that your business is well-lit and that all areas are accessible.

#2 Plan the Project

The next step is planning the route that you intend to capture during the photo shoot. Identify the key areas of your business and make sure they are well-organized and visually appealing from an objective perspective.

#3 Add Interactive Features

Next, you should add interactive features, such as hotspots and navigation buttons to make your Virtual Tour more engaging. A hotspot is a button that allows viewers to move between areas of your facility. Similarly, navigation buttons make it easier to move between panoramas and guide potential customers through your business.

#4 Promote Your Virtual Tour

Once your Virtual Tour is complete, it’s time to promote it on your website, social media channels, and other online platforms. Encourage visitors to explore your business using the Virtual Tour by adding direct links to your landing page.

#5 Choose the Right Photographer or Agency

And most importantly, choose the right agency. Creating a virtual tour can be challenging, so look for professionals with experience in creating Virtual Tours and check their portfolio to ensure that their style matches your vision.

Bottom Line

There you go, folks! As you see, a Google Virtual Tour is an excellent marketing tool that can help you boost your online visibility, showcase your business to potential customers, increase engagement and time spent on your website, and improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.

By investing in a Virtual Tour, you can create a unique and engaging experience for potential customers that can help you grow your business and maximize your brand awareness. But you need a well-trained, professional team who can help you get the job done immediately and effectively.

And that’s exactly what we offer at Momentum 360. We offer a broad array of multi-media solutions to optimize your online exposure. With Momentum 360, you can enjoy the exceptional quality of our services provided by a team of dedicated professionals. Don’t hesitate any further. Contact us today .

Now students can create their own VR tours

May 09, 2018

Article's hero media

Editor’s note: For Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re highlighting a few ways Google is supporting teachers—including Tour Creator, which we launched today to help schools create their own VR tours. Follow along on Twitter throughout the week to see more on how we’re celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week.

Since 2015, Google Expeditions has brought more than 3 million students to places like the Burj Khalifa, Antarctica, and Machu Picchu with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Both teachers and students have told us that they’d love to have a way to also share their own experiences in VR. As Jen Zurawski, an educator with Wisconsin’s West De Pere School District, put it: “With Expeditions, our students had access to a wide range of tours outside our geographical area, but we wanted to create tours here in our own community."

That’s why we’re introducing Tour Creator , which enables students, teachers, and anyone with a story to tell, to make a VR tour using imagery from Google Street View or their own 360 photos. The tool is designed to let you produce professional-level VR content without a steep learning curve. “The technology gets out of the way and enables students to focus on crafting fantastic visual stories,” explains Charlie Reisinger, a school Technology Director in Pennsylvania.

Once you’ve created your tour, you can publish it to Poly , Google’s library of 3D content. From Poly, it’s  easy to view. All you need to do is open the link in your browser or view in Google Cardboard . You can also embed it on your school's website for more people to enjoy. Plus, later this year, we’ll add the ability to import these tours into the Expeditions application.

Tour Creator- Show people your world

Here’s how a school in Lancaster, PA is using Tour Creator to show why they love where they live.

"Being able to work with Tour Creator has been an awesome experience,” said Jennifer Newton, a school media coordinator in Georgia. “It has allowed our students from a small town in Georgia to tell our story to the world.”

To build your first tour, visit g.co/tourcreator. Get started by showing us what makes your community special and why you #LoveWhereYouLive!

  • Google 360 Virtual Tour

Google Street View Trusted is a new and exciting way to showcase your business online and enhance your Google+ Listing. With just a click of the mouse you can invite customers inside with a 360-degree virtual tour of your business on Google Search, Google Maps and Google+. Independent studies have shown that not only does Google Street View boost your online presence, it also increases footfall to your business, which means more people coming to you.

How It Works

Google Street View Trusted for Business works in a similar way to Google Street View, enabling your customers to step inside your business 24 hours a day 365 days of the year! By signing up to this opportunity you can invite your customers to come and have a look around your premises in the comfort of their own home. Visitors to the area that use the powerful Google Maps tool on their mobile device can not only see where you are located but also what you look like inside and what you have to offer. Once we have completed the tour of your business you are free to embed the Google Street View Virtual Tour into your own website or social media site such as Facebook giving you even more scope for engaging with your customers online.

Step 1 • Consultation and Planning

Our team will arrange an initial consultation session with you to agree the finer details of the shoot - suitable date for the shoot, approximate number of panoramas/areas, costs and other criteria.

The Sales Order Form must be filled out in order to determine the positions and areas for photo shoot. For Hotels and/or Resorts, an Information Sheet should also be filled up to determine the positions and areas that may be photographed.

The positions depend on the area to be photo-shot based on the ocular inspection of the Project Coordinator and/or the Trusted Photographer.

To speed things up and ensure we are good to go!

Step 2 • Photo Shoot

On the agreed date, we will visit to perform the shoot. Payment is also required once the shoot is completed.

Taking the Photos

The photos are taken by the Trusted Google Photographer through 360 Tour Philippines, and no one else.

  • The photos are taken per position in an area.
  • Initial positions consist of 3 positions: (a) the 1st photo is taken about 10 feet from the street towards the entrance of the business, or in as many reasonable positions in order to connect to the street; (b) the 2nd (or succeeding) position/s is taken about 4 feet before the entrance or door of the business; (c) the 3rd (and succeeding) positions is taken about 4 feet after the entrance or door inside the business.
  • The rest of the positions taken within the business are measured between 4 to 15 feet apart or as long as the positions and sides can be connected to each other in order to perfect a 360 degree view.
  • For hotels and/or resorts, Google requires all areas to be photo-shot as it does not want to be held liable for customer complaints on areas that are not included. This may also affect the Ranking of that business, which is the reason why all areas of the hotels and/or resorts need to be shot.
  • In case there are locations where Street View is not accessible or available, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions are still being applied per Google Guidelines.
  • The photos are taken on pathways or specific areas to give the customer a complete virtual tour experience as if he/she is in the business and walking within and around the area.

Step 3 • Post-production

The photos will be moderated by a specific team and upload it onto Google. Faces, number plates and any other person identifications will be blurred. The tour is then integrated into Google maps for Google Quality check team to give a final approval once done.

All photos taken would be stitched and uploaded in Google to have that 360˚ view and tour of the business per area.

Step 4 • Publish

Your virtual tour is then published live and will appear in Google business listings, Google Maps, and Google's business place page.

We will supply all your high-resolution photos that you can use on your marketing materials.

The photos taken will not be edited, enhanced, or Photoshopped by 360 Tour Philippines for purposes of transparency, and to avoid misleading photos or other misrepresentations from other sources.

Step 5 • Follow-up Support

We will work with you and your team to identify opportunities to promote your virtual tour more effectively. For example embedding the tour in your website, social media channels like Facebook.

  • Português – Brasil
  • All developers actively developing experiences for Google Cardboard should use the open source Cardboard SDKs for iOS , Android NDK , and Unity XR Plugin .
  • The Daydream View VR headset is no longer available for purchase as of October 15, 2019. As of November 2023, previously supported devices will no longer be able to download and install Google VR Serivces (Android application ID com.google.vr.vrcore ) for new users.

360° Media

360° media, consisting of 360° videos and images, is a great way for developers to enhance traditional apps with immersive content. You can embed a 360° video into a travel app to provide viewers with an Underwater scuba diving tour as they plan a vacation, or into a home-building app that takes prospective buyers on a virtual walkthrough of their home before it’s built.

Although 360° media supports true stereoscopic VR playback through compatibility with VR platforms like Google Cardboard, it can also be displayed in a simple “magic window” that can be viewed from desktop browsers and mobile apps without any special VR hardware.

Common formats

You can create 360° media in either mono or stereo format. Images and video generally need to be stored in the equirectangular-panoramic (equirect-pano) format, which is a common format supported by many capture solutions.

360° images

360° images can be stored as png, jpeg, or gif. We recommend you use jpeg for improved compression.

For maximum compatibility and performance, image dimensions should be powers of two (e.g., 2048 or 4096).

Mono images should be 2:1 aspect ratio (e.g. 4096 x 2048).

Stereo images should be 1:1 aspect ratio (e.g. 4096 x 4096).

360° videos

360° videos should be stored as mp4s encoded with h264.

Mono videos should be 2:1 aspect ratio.

Stereo videos should be 1:1 aspect ratio.

Some older devices cannot decode video larger than 1080p (1920x1080). If maximum compatibility and quality is a priority, we recommend that developers provide both a monoscopic 1920x1080 video and a stereo video at 2048x2048 or higher.

How to embed your media

For Android and Web developers, VR View allows you to embed 360° media into websites on desktop and mobile and native apps on Android.

  • VR View on Android
  • VR View on the Web

For iOS developers, the GVRkit library (provided as part of the Google VR SDK for iOS) provides similar functionality and includes samples demonstrating its usage.

  • Panorama demonstrates how to embed 360° images.
  • VideoWidgetDemo demonstrates how to embed 360° video.

Media capture

Here are some basic guidelines for how to capture and host 360° media.

Real world capture

There are multiple options for taking 360° photos and videos that support the equirect-pano format described above. These options include:

Cardboard Camera App : This app for Android allows users to quickly capture 360° images. To use these images with VR View, download the image, and then use our conversion tool to create a stereo 360° image that meets Cardboard's image specifications.

Ricoh Theta : A very popular, relatively inexpensive solution for capturing mono 360° images and videos.

Imagery for 360° media isn’t limited to captures from the real world. CGI software can generate 360° images and videos for everything from architectural walkthroughs to movie previews. Some of the most popular capture solutions are listed below:

360 Panorama Capture for Unity : A free, easy-to-use 360° capture plugin for Unity.

Unreal : Stero panoramic capture in Unreal.

(Unsupported) Domemaster3D : A free solution for capturing mono and stereo 360° images from Maya / Autodesk 3ds Max.

Renderman : Open-source library for capturing 360° content.

Rendering Omnidirectional Stereo Content : A whitepaper for anyone interested in writing their own 360° capture solutions.

You can host 360° videos on YouTube . The advantages of hosting on YouTube are:

  • Ease of use
  • Large built-in audience
  • High-quality hosting infrastructure

Alternatively, you can host the media on your own web server via HTTP/HTTPS.

A little background . . . Several months ago, those of us on the Google Cloud Developer Advocacy Team had a rare opportunity to tour the Google data center in The Dalles, Oregon. Many of us had seen other non-Google data centers in our careers, but this experience was beyond anything we ever imagined. We were blown away by the scale, the incredible attention to security and privacy, and the amazing efforts to make the data center extremely efficient and green. Additionally, we were proud to meet some of the brilliant people that design, build and maintain these data centers.

If you are a Google Cloud Platform customer, then this is your data center as much as it is our data center, so we want you to experience what we experienced.

We hope you enjoy it!
