2023 Charles Schwab Cup playoffs standings: 72 players advancing to Dominion Energy Charity Classic
The PGA Tour Champions's 2023 Charles Schwab Cup playoffs begin with the first stage, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, played in Richmond, Va. at the Country Club of Virginia.
The Dominion Energy Charity Classic field has the top 72 players in Charles Schwab Cup points through the regular season.
Steve Stricker is first in the rankings, dominating this season on PGA Tour Champions with a $1.94 million lead over No. 2 Steve Alker heading into the playoffs. The margin is not insurmountable, but there are less than a handful of players that could win all three Schwab Cup playoff events and still win the season-long points race.
With the start of the playoffs, points are multiplied by two, with each dollar earned equaling two points. At the end of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, the top 54 players in total points, adding in the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, qualify for the TimberTech Championship in Florida.
No one played their way into the playoffs through the regular season-ending SAS Championship.

2024 Zurich Classic fantasy golf rankings, picks, strategy: Back Conners and Pendrith, fade McIlroy and Lowry
Sportsline's eric cohen locked in his pga tour fantasy golf rankings, picks and lineups for the zurich classic of new orleans 2024 at tpc louisiana.
Scottie Scheffler has won four of his last five starts -- with a runner-up in the other -- but no one has to worry about him finishing at the top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. That's because the World No. 1 isn't a part of the field, which consists of 80 pairs of teams, so you'll have to look elsewhere for Zurich Classic fantasy picks. The event begins on Thursday from TPC Louisiana and utilizes alternating formats of best ball and foursomes, with Zurich Classic fantasy lineups consisting of two-man teams instead of individual golfers.
It is the only PGA Tour event that uses the team stroke play format, which saw Nick Hardy and Davis Riley shoot a tournament record 30-under-par in their victory last year. That duo is at +8000 in the latest Zurich Classic 2024 odds, which makes them an intriguing team to maneuver into a fantasy golf strategy. The teams at the top of the odds board are Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele (+500), Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry (+800) and Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala (+1100). Before making any 2024 Zurich Classic fantasy golf picks, you have to see the Zurich Classic fantasy golf rankings from SportsLine handicapper Eric Cohen .
Cohen is an avid golf bettor who correctly predicted the pre-tournament outright winner of the 2024 Masters (Scottie Scheffler, +350), Players Championship (Scheffler +550), 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic (Rickie Fowler +1400), 2023 PGA Championship (Brooks Koepka +2000), 2023 Honda Classic (Chris Kirk +3500), 2022 Open Championship (Cameron Smith +2200), 2022 U.S. Open (Matt Fitzpatrick +2500), and 2022 Phoenix Open (Scheffler's first career victory at +2800).
Cohen is a contributor to SportsLine's YouTube shows including "Early Edge" and is the host of "The Early Wedge" golf show. Anyone who has followed Cohen's predictions has made positive gains on their golf picks.
Now, Cohen has ranked his top golfers for the 2024 Zurich Classic. Cohen's picks are only available at SportsLine .
2024 Zurich Classic expert picks
We can tell you he is backing the duo of Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith at +3500. The styles of these two complement each other as well as you'll find with any team as Conners is an elite ball-striker who ranks in the top 15 in strokes gained: tee-to-green, greens in regulation percentage and strokes gained: approach the green. Meanwhile, Pendrith's strengths are his first shot and his final shot. He ranks ninth on tour in driving distance and is 22nd in strokes gained: putting.
The two lowest scores in this tournament's history have come in the last two years, so breaking par repeatedly is essential. This pairing cumulatively ranks in the top 10 of the field in birdies or better gained, with Conners ranking in the top 20 of the entire PGA Tour in both total birdies and total eagles. Add in that Pendrith finished 13th at this tournament last year while playing with a golfer currently ranked 792nd in the world, and the sky's the limit with him now teaming with the No. 51 golfer in World Ranking.
On the other hand, Cohen is fading the oddsmakers' second choice, McIlroy and Lowry at +800. This will be McIlroy's first start at TPC Louisiana while Lowry has played it four times previously. He has just one top 25 over that stretch -- which includes when it was both an individual event and a team event -- and he's missed two of four cuts. This year, Lowry has twice as many finishes outside the top 40 (four) as he has inside the top 10 (two).
That's still twice as many top 10s as McIlroy has in 2024 as the Irishman hasn't found the form he had at the end of last season when he ended it with 10 straight top 10s. McIlroy's scoring average of 70.29 ranks just 87th on tour as his short game is struggling. He ranks outside the top 100 in strokes gained: around-the-green, and as is the case with most Pete Dye-designed courses, TPC Louisiana puts an emphasis on the short game. Lowry can't help out his partner much with that aspect as he also ranks outside the top 100 around the green, so this duo is one to avoid considering their short odds. How to set 2024 Zurich Classic Fantasy golf lineups
For this week, Cohen is backing several underdogs in his 2024 Zurich Classic fantasy golf picks, including a triple-digit longshot team which could "potentially be a wise play in placement bets" and could help spice up your Fantasy golf lineups. See who it is, and get all of Cohen's fantasy golf picks, at SportsLine .

Nelly Korda continues to solidify standing atop latest Olympic Golf Ranking Update
Juliana hung has record-setting first round at the ioa championship despite difficult conditions.
- Nelly Korda
Reigning Olympic gold medalist Nelly Korda has continued to solidify her place at the top of both the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and Olympic Golf Rankings, as she has collected five straight victories in her last five starts on the LPGA Tour.
Korda began her run with a playoff win over Lydia Ko in her hometown of Bradenton, Florida, at the LPGA Drive On Championship at Bradenton Country Club, and after a seven-week break from competition, picked up another title at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, this time winning in a one-hole playoff over Ryann O’Toole at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California.
She won again the next week at the Ford Championship presented by KCC after carding a final-round 65 in dreary conditions at Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert, Arizona, and then defeated Leona Maguire 4 and 3 in the championship match at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards, her 12th career LPGA Tour title.
Korda went on to capture her second major title last week at The Chevron Championship, winning by two shots over Maja Stark at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. With the win, the 25-year-old became just the third player since 1978 to win five straight tournaments on the LPGA Tour, joining Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam, and was the first player since herself in 2021 to win a major championship and the event before.
Korda is one of four Americans currently ranked inside the top 15 of the Olympic Golf Ranking. Lilia Vu, who won four times during the 2023 season, including two major championships, has been dealing with a back injury this year but has still managed to remain second in the standings.
Last year’s CPKC Women’s Open champion, Megan Khang, is sitting at 13th in the Olympic Golf Ranking with her good friend and UCLA alum Alison Lee right behind her in the 14th position. Khang has earned three top-15 results so far this year, the best of which is a solo third that came at the LPGA Drive On Championship, while Lee has recorded two top-10 finishes, tying for third at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship and tying for eighth at the Ford Championship presented by KCC.
But the United States isn’t the only country with more than two representatives inside the top 15 of the Rolex Rankings.
The Republic of Korea has had plenty of success in previous Olympic Games, as Inbee Park took home the gold medal in 2016 in Rio. As of April 23, Jin Young Ko and Hyo Joo Kim are sitting at seventh and 10th, respectively, in the Olympic Golf Ranking, while Amy Yang is ranked 15th.
Ko has played in just three events this year after a two-win season in 2023, finishing T20, T8 and then missing the cut in the three tournaments in which she has competed in 2024. Kim has recorded two top-10 finishes in six starts this season, tying for fifth at the Honda LPGA Thailand and tying for eighth at the Ford Championship presented by KCC in March. She picked up her sixth career LPGA Tour victory last fall at The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America.
Yang won the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in November 2023 at Tiburón Golf Club after recording a four-day total of 27-under. It’s been a slow start to the 2024 LPGA Tour season for the 34-year-old, whose best finish this year is a tie for 22nd that came at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.
While there hasn’t been any substantially significant movement in the Olympic Golf Ranking in recent weeks, Stark did move ahead of fellow Swede Linn Grant in the standings after her runner-up finish at The Chevron Championship. The 24-year-old was ranked 26th in the Olympic Golf Ranking as of April 15, while Grant was in 21st. But after her solid showing at The Club at the Carlton Woods, Stark is now ranked 22nd, one spot ahead of Grant, who is currently ranked 23rd.

Korn Ferry Tour Player Shoots 13-under 58 in Texas
Frankie Capan III fired the third sub-60 score of the season on the Korn Ferry Tour.
- Author: John Schwarb
There’s a new member of the sub-60 club in pro golf, on a tour that has seen a couple already this season.
Frankie Capan III shot a 13-under 58 on Thursday at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in the first round of the Veritex Bank Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. He made four birdies in a row from the 2nd through 5th holes, then hung red numbers on eight straight holes from the 9th through 16th. In all he had 11 birdies and one eagle.
Capan parred his final two holes including the par-5 18th.
The Korn Ferry Tour had two sub-60 scores earlier this year at the Astara Golf Championship, as Cristobal Del Solar shot 57 and Aldrich Potgieter shot 59 on a par-70, 6,254-yard course at elevation in Colombia. Capan shot his 58 on a par-71, 7,010-yard course.
There has been one 58 shot on the PGA Tour, by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
Capan, 24, turned pro two years ago and attended Florida Gulf Coast University. The Minnesota native 298th in the OWGR with a high finish of third in 30 career KFT starts.
Capan led by three in the morning wave. Trent Phillips shot 61 and trailed by three.
