Welcome to Rome, Italy’s capital city that is bursting at the seams with energy. Locals fill the streets, day and night, usually doing something that involves eating or drinking. And how can you blame them when pasta, pizza, gelato, coffee, and wine are everywhere you go? Rome is all big city/ancient ruins, served with a side of spaghetti.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

They say all roads lead to Rome, but once you’re there you quickly realize that all roads actually lead to restaurants. Take the morning to satisfy your cravings and sip some espresso, then enjoy a walking tour of Rome.

• Experience the heart of ancient Rome with a visit to the Forum, once a hub of activity for the city.
• See the ruins of several Roman temples, including the Temple of the Vestal Virgins.

Mama mia, a whole day in Rome to do as you please! Explore some of your favorite places from the past few days, look for something new, or do as Lizzie McGuire did and fall in love with a local pop star who says you look exactly like his ex-singing partner. And if none of that sounds appealing, join the Vatican City excursion and catch a glimpse of the most interesting cities you’ve ever seen.

• Head to the nearest Italian café for a cappuccino—it’s how the locals do.
• Carpe all of the diem and make the most of your last day in Rome.
• Cross another country of your list (Vatican City is an independent nation).

Free time suggestions

Trevi Fountain: Rumor has it, if turn your back to the Trevi Fountain and toss a coin over your shoulder, it guarantees you’ll return to the Eternal City. Throw in a second coin, and you’ll not only come back, but also find love. Fine print: Significant other not guaranteed by EF Ultimate Break. Shopping on Vide del Corso Walk down the longest pedestrian street in the city for some prime shopping. Populated by both locals and tourists, there’s room for everyone on the narrow store-filled street.

Visit the Pope’s house: Vatican City. Take a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica, and get your dose of art history up close and personal—viewing Michelangelo's famed Sistine Chapel frescoes. Please note: The Vatican is closed on Sundays. In the event that the itinerary day containing this optional lands on a Sunday for your departure, the optional will take place the day before. Travel to Florence via Orvieto. Goodbye bustling city, hello Tuscan countryside. Florence was king during the Renaissance, and it still holds on to that artsy, fashionable, cultural vibe today.

• Stop in Orvieto, a quaint Italian hill town perched atop a rock cliff.
• Marvel at the artistry of the facade of Orvieto’s stunning cathedral, built in 1290 (no, that’s not a typo—it’s really that old).
• Arrive in Florence and begin exploring.

You’ve got a full day in Florence, the compact capital of the Tuscany region known for its quaint, cobblestone streets and impressive artwork from Renaissance geniuses like Michelangelo and Donatello. Throw on some comfortable shoes and join a local guide for a walking tour of the city. By the end of it, you’ll be looking up how to live in Italy forever.

*Note: There is no included entry to the Duomo during the guided sightseeing on this day, but you will have free time to return if you so choose.

• Cross the Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence, home to many of Florence’s jewelers and art merchants. Ready to get some bling?
• Stroll the Piazza della Signoria, home to Florence’s seat of power, the Palazzo Vecchio, as well as several intricate sculptures.
• Visit the Duomo Cathedral. Return during your free time and challenge yourself to climb the 463 steps to the top for stunning views of the city.

Get Some Fresh Air: Loggia dei Lanzi is an open air sculpture museum, with a number of Renaissance statues. It’s beautiful, it’s in the open, and it’s free. Leather-Bound Books Florence is known for its plethora of leather goods, from belts and jewelry to purses and wallets. Maybe you can finally buy that leather jacket you’ve always wanted but didn’t think you could pull off. Fun fact: you can.

Tuscan Wine Tasting (extra cost)

Some of the world’s best wine come from Tuscany, and you get to sample some at a scenic winery. Next head to the medieval walled town of San Gimignano, home to the world-famous Gelateria di Piazza gelato shop. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

The Italian Riviera. Even the name sounds beautiful. This coastal slice of Italy pulls travelers from all over the world to its stunning beaches, quaint towns, and an authentic—and literal—taste of la dolce vita (the sweet life). Before you reach the coast, you’ll stop for a chance to see one of the most famous, most crooked, and most photographed monuments: The Leaning Tower of Pisa.

• Travel through Italian countryside to the town of Pisa, where the famous tower leans as it has since the 12th century.

French Food Tour (extra cost)

Nosh like a true Niçois on a food crawl to nearly a dozen authentic hidden gems, feasting on treats like savory chickpea pancakes, stuffed peppers, and—oh yeah—plenty of wine. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Sleep in, slow down, and do whatever you want during a free day in the French Riviera. There’s so much to see and do, but if you’re tired of seeing and doing, take a break and relax at one of the many beaches or take in the scenery from a hill town.

• Enjoy waterfront restaurants, lounge on world famous beaches, explore posh boutiques, and feel like an A-Lister (kind of), because you’re in the vacation hotspot of the world’s rich and famous.
• Taste-test some local favorites, including socca, the South of France’s take on the traditional crepe. Step aside, Parisian pastries!
• Channel your inner Picasso (the famous painter who did not cut off his ear) and visit a few esteemed art museums and demonstrations—you’re in the former stomping grounds of many influential artists.

It’s on to Provence, where scenic countryside inspired artists likes Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso. The vineyards are vast, and the ratatouille (vegetable stew) delectable. But first, stop at Verdon Gorge river canyon for some lunch and water activities. Look around—what you see is no mirage. But it is paradise.

• Catch stunning views of Verdon Gorge from (included) pedal boats or kayaks on the Lake of Sainte Croix.
• Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and explore this seaside town with your Tour Director
• Enjoy an included dinner in Provence.

You’re going to Barcelona, a city of endless parties, wacky architecture, and premium beaches (which also happen to be where the clubs are). So throw on your walking shoes, your party pants, and any shirt you’d like. Barcelona is the fiesta that keeps on fiesta…ing.

• Take an introductory walk of Barcelona with your Tour Director. (Stopping for tapas is not required, but highly encouraged.)
• Stroll Las Ramblas, the main pedestrian thoroughfare lined with bars, cafes, shops, and street performers (some more impressive than others).
• Stop in Plaça de Catalunya, the city center where old meets new, and pigeons fly next to you, above you, and maybe even through your legs.

Barcelona is so well known for its architecture, we decided to dedicate a whole day to showing you the best of it. You’ll follow a local guide by coach and foot through several neighborhoods, all with their own unique flavor. You’ll visit a church that’s been under construction since before your great-grandparents were born, a colorful ceramic salamander welcoming you into a park, and a stadium where really athletic people from around the world competed for the gold in 1992.

• Explore the Gothic Quarter with your guide. Don't forget your black eyeliner (cue crickets).
• Visit one of Antoni Gaudí's greatest work of modernist art, Parque Güell. This colorful park is adorned with tilework, dreamlike structures and not a straight line in sight.
• Head up to Montjuïc, a hill overlooking Barcelona where the 1992 Olympic Games took place (and where you’ll be out of breath from walking up said hill).
• Check out the unfinished Sagrada Familia cathedral, where Gaudí began construction over 100 years ago.

OverARCHing Theme: The Arc de Triomf was built as the main entrance for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair. While it may remind you of a different (perhaps more famous) arch, it can certainly, shall we say, stand on its own. Comer Little Closer: From paella, a traditional rice dish, to Basque-style tapas, Barcelona has gastronomy locked down. Head out on the town and look for some good eats.

Sagrada Familia & Sangria (extra cost)

Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família Basilica is the world’s most unbelievable church—under construction since 1882, finished by 2026 at the earliest. Tour it with a local guide, then enjoy included Sangria and pintxos, which are small finger snacks popular in Spain. This excursion is  pre-book  only; if your trip is less than 30 days away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase.

Barcelona is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe, and there’s usually some sort of festival, event, or celebration happening on any given day. Find it. This is your last day to experience as much of it as you can. Even if there’s nothing going on, you’re guaranteed to find something exciting. Whether it’s a restaurant to consume more tapas, a new neighborhood to explore, or a funky building to admire that’s not Gaudí’s design.

• Head back to Las Ramblas for food, shopping, and Instagram opportunities aplenty.
• Drool before, during, and after eating pan con tomate, or “bread with tomato,” a simple but delicious Catalan snack.
• Hit the town (or the beach) for an epic final night out in Barcelona.

Market Down: Visit La Boqueria, the famous market just off of Las Ramblas, with everything from fresh fruits to meats, flowers and sweets. Playa Long Barcelona’s coast is lined with beaches, each with its own personality. Try party-centric Barceloneta, tranquil Caldetes or water sports at Mar Bella.

Farewell dinner Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included farewell dinner with the group.

¡Adios, amigos! Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. Before you head to the airport, enjoy your last few moments together. Take one more group photo. Grab that final drink. (Fine, maybe a couple of drinks.) But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

• In order to enter the United Kingdom, France, and Italy (plus Spain on the tour extension), U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
• We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
• Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an  ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
• Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. This is a steady-paced tour. The pace of a tour itinerary considers how often you’ll switch hotels, the amount of planned daily activities, and how you’ll get from place to place. You can expect:

Walking, Terrain & Physical Requirements

• Travelers should be prepared to walk 2 miles per day- this includes city streets, cobblestones, stairs, and hills.
• Cobblestone streets can become slick when wet.
• The terrain around the Roman Forum and the Colosseum includes inclines and uneven stairs.
• Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance.
• Please Note: Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.

Climate Considerations

• In London, travelers can expect cool, cloudy, and rainy days throughout the year, with occasional heatwaves in the summer months (June-September).
• In Paris, temperatures range from 40sF in winter to low-80sF in summer, with occasional heatwaves in the summer months (June-September).
• In Rome, temperatures range from 50sF in winter to 90sF in summer.
• For travelers on the Madrid extension, temperatures range from 50sF in winter to 90sF in summer.
• In the summer months (June-September), travelers can expect heatwaves with temperatures consistently above 90F in Rome and Madrid.

Physical Activity & Tour Pace Questions

• Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special mobility or luggage handling assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group enjoys a smooth and informative journey, and they can’t be relied on to provide individualized assistance to any one traveler.
• This tour moves at a reasonable pace to avoid missing scheduled stops. The rest of the group cannot miss any scheduled activities because of the needs of an individual.
• Due to the pace and physical activity level of this tour, mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers will be difficult to use and are not recommended. Please notify Go Ahead Tours before your departure if you plan to bring these on tour with you.

• This tour includes various modes of transportation, including planes, trains, and motor coaches. Some modes of transportation will have raised platforms or steps and often not provide access to ramps or lifts.
• A train ride from London to Paris and a flight from Paris to Rome are included in the price of your tour (the tour extension also includes a flight from Rome to Madrid).
• All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.
• European train stations typically operate similarly to airports where security measures, such as baggage and body scanners, are common. Platforms are often spread out across large distances and require travelers to manage their luggage on escalators or stairs. Porterage services are not offered on train transfers and luggage storage on trains is extremely limited. Please keep in mind that trains may only be stopping at the stations for a few minutes; speed with loading and unloading may be imperative
• Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one personal item per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which include a train and flight.
• Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.
• Contact your airline(s) for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights. Please note that your included on-tour flights may have more restrictive baggage limits.
• Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag.
• Travelers must manage their own luggage throughout tour as porters are not guaranteed. This includes at hotels, airports, and train stations.
• Luggage storage on trains is extremely limited, and often requires travelers to lift their suitcases onto storage racks, sometimes above the seats.
• We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
• A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.
• You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
• It is preferable not to visit churches or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis).
• We recommend packing a reusable water bottle to cut down on single use plastic waste.
• We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
• We recommend packing your Insurance Card (from your primary insurance provider) in your carry on luggage.
• Go Ahead handpicks every hotel to strike the balance of comfort, location, and local charm.
• Accommodations are typically three and four star hotels.
• All accommodations include a private bathroom.
• Most rooms will include a safe for valuables.
• Your hotels will have Wifi, but it may be limited to common areas.
• Elevators in hotels are not guaranteed.
• Some hotels on this tour require travelers to walk with their luggage a few blocks as buses cannot drop travelers off right out front.
• Please be advised that the strength of the air conditioning in European hotels/buildings is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada.
• We cannot guarantee that your hotel accommodations will have laundry services or facilities. We recommend checking directly with the hotel once they are confirmed about 30 days prior to departure.
• England operates on 240 volts and uses a Type G plug with three large, flat pins.
• France and Italy (and Spain on the tour extension) operate on the European standard 220 volts and use Types C, E, or F plugs with two or three small, round pins.
• Specific accommodations will vary based on your departure date.
• Excursions are available for purchase prior to departure, and most excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour directly through your mobile app for an additional $10 USD.
• We recommend purchasing excursions at least 3 days prior to your tour departure. Please note some excursions have advance booking deadlines. Check your tour itinerary for more information to ensure you don’t miss the deadline to add them.
• Optional excursions may be canceled on tour due to reasons like low enrollment, weather or unexpected closures. If an excursion you signed up for is canceled by Go Ahead Tours, you will be refunded the full cost of the excursion. Please note it may take up to 60 days for your refund to be processed.
• Your Tour Director may offer their own optional excursions which can only be purchased on tour via cash (in local currency).
• At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website at cdc.gov .
• If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies, please notify Go Ahead Tours at least 30 days prior to your departure by logging in to your account and updating your traveler info. To update this information closer to your departure date, please contact our Customer Experience Team.
• If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour as well as any possible delays encountered.
• Most of our itineraries include headsets used during certain sightseeing tours so travelers can hear their guides or Tour Director. If you use an assisted listening device, such as a hearing aid or cochlear implant, please visit our Help Center for more information or contact our customer experience team. Please note that at this time not all our destinations offer headsets due to supplier limitations.
• The water is safe to drink throughout your tour unless posted otherwise.
• This tour includes 3 dinners. Included meals may be plated set menus, buffet or family style depending on the location. Dinners include one glass of beer, wine, or soft drink and water, coffee and tea.
• Breakfast each morning is also included at the hotel and is typically buffet style with hot and cold options.
• For traditional English fare at a reasonable price, try a pub meal of fish and chips or bangers and mash. Stilton cheese, steak and kidney pie, and Cumberland sausages are also worth a try. Sip afternoon tea with delicious finger sandwiches and scones at Harrods in London for the ultimate in English tradition.
• Modern-day London boasts an array of diverse international restaurants. Popular options for the adventurous palate include Indian, Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Greek, and West African cuisine.
• For a picnic with French flair, stop at a small grocery store for cheeses, pâtés, cured meats, fresh-baked bread, and fruit. In the cities, sidewalk vendors are known for their steaming crepes, while mouthwatering pastries and hot café au lait beckon from cafes. In restaurants, the prix fixe option is a popular way to enjoy a set three- or four-course menu for a good price.
• Although lunch is generally served from noon until 2pm in France, dinner is served from 7:30pm onward. Those wishing to eat earlier can stop at a cafe, where light entrées and sandwiches are available throughout the afternoon and evening.
• Roman food is typically freshly prepared and varies depending on the season. Must-try bites include cacio e pepe (a simple dish of pasta, cheese and pepper) and supplí (a fried rice ball similar to Sicily's arancini).
• For more authentic meals, try local trattorias, small restaurants set away from the main piazzas. A typical Italian meal includes wines and the occasional beer, followed by a few sips of after-dinner drinks like grappa or limoncello.
• In Spain, on the tour extension, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
• At the conclusion of your tour, it is customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
• We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
• If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
• Tips can only be paid in cash.
• If you are traveling to multiple countries with different currencies and the same Tour Director, ask them what currency they prefer for their tip.
• The cost of porterage is included in your tour price, and it is not necessary to tip baggage handlers.
• You will use the Pound sterling in the United Kingdom and the euro in France and Italy (and Spain on the tour extension).
• Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, but you may choose to order some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
• We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
• You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
• Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
• International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
• Plan ahead and bring cash to tip your tour director, local guides, and bus drivers. We also recommend keeping coins in the local currency on hand, as some public bathrooms may charge a fee for use.
• To ensure you feel prepared before traveling on tour, we strongly recommend you download the EF Go Ahead Tours mobile app. The app is free and provides important deadlines, entry requirements, your detailed itinerary, packing tips and more. You can also connect with fellow travelers through the chat feature in the app.
• Wifi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
• There is no Wifi on any of the motor coaches.
• Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
• Your Tour Director will be leading your group throughout your journey. You will have the same Tour Director throughout your tour.
• The role of the Tour Director is not only to provide information and context on the destinations you visit, but also to confirm services, coordinate inclusions, prepare each days’ activities and support travelers while on tour. As such, they must focus on the success of the group, and cannot provide individualized assistance to any one traveler.

• The United Kingdom is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).

• When it’s noon in New York, it’s 5pm in the United Kingdom and 6pm in France and Italy (and Spain on the tour extension).

Opportunity of a life time!

Such a unique way to get highschool students out in a field they are interested in, taking the classroom outside! What a neat and organized group to see the world at such an impressionable time in a young persons life. There was safe travel during the entire trip along with Guides that were kind and full of knowledge. Engaging in the culture was a highlight for our son. Our son had a wonderful time and memories to cherish for the rest of his life. Fabulous experience

We had a fabulous experience, this is my daughter's second time on an EF Tour. The communication was spot on, we knew exactly what needed to be done every step of the way. We got a lot of great tips on travel and what she needed while traveling. As parents, we felt very comfortable with her traveling on her EF Tours. Our daughter loved every moment of her trips, she was able to see all the important sights, learn about different cultures, cities, & countries. They got to catch a Broadway show, take a theater workshop, cricket lesson, art lesson and so much more. She was able to do all this and it was a reasonably affordable. The experience of international travel is invaluable.

Pretty architecture but less than impressive tour

My son’s high school just came back from Eastern Europe tour. Many parents not impressed w dumpy (bed bugs and all) hotel our kids had to sleep in thanks to EF Tours in Prague. Apparently, also, weren’t warned by guide(s) about “walking on the wrong side” of a bridge in Poland and (good) teens were cited by Polish Police (yup). Lastly, many with food allergies were kept away from them yes, but given gross, pathetic food options. Contemplating pulling my other child’s trip w EF tours, very disappointing as trip(s) of a lifetime… but will give them another try.

This was our son's first trip abroad!

This was our son's first trip abroad! I say first trip because his experience through EF tours was fantastic! Highly recommend! Worth the money! I recommend getting the insurance too. It gave his Dad and I peace of mind that if the trip was canceled or he wasn't able to go, we wouldn't be hurt financially.

Our tour guide

Our tour guide, Washington, was fantastic! He was thorough and explained the itinerary for each day. He was extremely knowledgeable, about the people, region, culture, terrain, and history. The travel was made easy with clean and comfortable transportation. The hotels were clean, safe and welcoming. The group was never bored! We explored everything and made the most out of every second of the trip.

SMHS EF tour

Our tour guide, Rosie Roberts, was absolutely phenomenal! She was personable, cheery, knowledgeable, and lots of fun! I would definitely go on anther EF tour, as the ease of which I got to experience so many things during a short time period was fabulous! Thanks for a great trip!

High school European trip

My son went away with his school to Switzerland and Italy. He had a wonderful experience! 5 stars would have been given, but the layover going to Switzerland from Philadelphia was a little too long(7hrs) and the food offerings at the hotels for breakfast and dinner were not desirable. Other than that I’d say my son had a really wonderful trip! Thank you for providing him with a safe and fantastic experience!

EF was great

EF was great. I had the confidence to send my student to Italy and Spain knowing she was in good hands. My student got to see things she has learned about in many classes and got to experience wonderful things that would never be experienced here at home. I have sent my student on two different EF tours and each time was easy to budget and plan.

EF - Cherished Memories

The trip was very organized and well planned out. The itinerary was wonderful and had some flexibility to make adjustments to accommodate some changes or additions! The choice of hotel stays had a lot of character and allowed us to grasp the culture of Belize as we explored so many different areas of the country! The Tour Guide, Javier, and bus driver, Herby were excellent, hospitable and very personable. As a parent, chaperone , and educator, this trip was so exhilarating, welcoming and educational. All grounds for memories of a lifetime!!

EF never disappoints

EF never disappoints! This brand new tour is a near perfect itinerary, and while there are a few TINY links to work out, they are 100% doing what they need to to work through them. Apart from that, a few hiccups for us, including a behavior issue, a minor car accident and a tooth that got knocked out, were handled immediately and fully. Their support was EVERYTHING!

Good experience but dinner not great

It was a good experience and I’m grateful. Dinner that was provided was not a great experience. My daughter found herself purchasing food because she did not like what was offered and her friends that did not eat pork for religious reason did not have a good rounded meal and my daughter found herself advocating for them. I think my daughter liked 2 of the dinner meals. I would be good if they had options.

We have a trans son and were concerned…

We have a trans son and were concerned that international travel would be unsafe for him and/or the EF Tour guides would be discriminatory. But our concerns were unnecessary because from our first meeting with our teacher, to the moment our son returned from his trip, everything went smoothly including lodging arrangements and interactions with all EF Tour guides (most of whom he really connected with due to his own passion for art and culture). Well done, EF Tours.

My son was hesitant at first to go on the trip, but after going and having a great time, he is now more comfortable with traveling, and going to foreign destinations. Thank you for an amazing experience for my son. He had a great trip and saw so many things in London, Paris, and Madrid. He said his tour guide was fabulous and I appreciated how organized everything was. I would highly recommend this for other HS students.

Extremely Disappointed

Our tour guide was very unorganized and multiple students saw her drinking and smoking while at the hotel. She also told the students that they were allowed to drink as per EF tour rules when all of them are either under eighteen or freshly eighteen. Nearly all of the food we ate was not good and many students who had allergies were not well taken care of and didn’t end up eating most meals. As a collective our group was disappointed in how this tour was run and my family and I will never be traveling with EF again.

Carola Rafino was the most wonderful

Carola Rafino was the most wonderful, knowledgeable guide you could have provided for us. She made us all feel like family while we were there. Many shed tears on the day we departed. I can not say enough good things about our tour and our amazing guide!

Unbelievable experience!

This was an unbelievable experience for my daughter. It was worth every penny! They saw and did so much. Her safety which was my biggest concern was never in question. The process was smooth and easy. Every detail was addressed. Communication every day was fantastic with messages and pictures. I'd definitely go with EF Tours again!

reassured and comfortable…

I felt reassured and comfortable sending my daughter to South America to learn about Ecuador. I didn’t worry once about anything happening to her or the group she was on. I had the app and could follow along the itinerary the whole time.

Trip was great. Accommodations need better vetting

Was really not pleased to learn that my kid had to share a bed with another student rather than giving the two kids another room with two separate beds. Other than that, was told the guides were really great and they saw a lot of great sites.

Tour Directors were amazing but the…

Tour Directors were amazing but the food options/places were lacking. Not all places did a great job accommodating the vegans or gluten free travelers and the portions sizes were for small children and not for adults or hungry teenagers. Most nights kids had to go back out to get food on their own.

Welcome to Rome, Italy’s capital city that is bursting at the seams with energy. Locals fill the streets, day and night, usually doing something that involves eating or drinking. And how can you blame them when pasta, pizza, gelato, coffee, and wine are everywhere you look? Rome is all big city/ancient ruins, served with a side of spaghetti.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

They say all roads lead to Rome, but once you’re there you quickly realize that all roads actually lead to restaurants. Take the morning to satisfy your cravings and sip some espresso, then see perhaps the most staggeringly important building you can possibly see in Europe: the Roman Colosseum.

• Tour the city with a local guide who will show you why Rome is one of the most legendary cities in Europe.
• Experience the heart of ancient Rome with a visit to the Forum, once a hub of activity for the city.
• See the ruins of several Roman temples, including the Temple of the Vestal Virgins.

Rome has a bit of a spooky side. Travel deep underground to catacombs built by early Christians. Then, head to St. Paul’s Basilica. Existing since at least 324 AD, they say St. Paul himself is buried there. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Today you get to explore centuries worth of culinary perfection, unbelievable architecture, and local fashion on your own. And let it be said, Rome looks goooood for being 2,000 years old. (It must moisturize.) Shop, eat, drink, and talk like an Italian (with your hands) during your free day. Embrace the culture and indulge in carbs during your last day in the Eternal City.

Free time suggestions

Piazza Navona: Head over to Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s best known public squares. Fountains, street performers, shops, restaurants, and so much more. Hangout, sip coffee, and embrace the atmosphere of this outdoor hub. Trevi Fountain: Rumor has it, if turn your back to the Trevi Fountain and toss a coin over your shoulder, it guarantees you’ll return to the Eternal City. Throw in a second coin, and you’ll not only come back, but also find love. (Significant other not guaranteed by EF Ultimate Break.)

A Visit to the Vatican (extra cost)

Visit the Pope’s house: Vatican City. Take a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica, and get your dose of art history up close and personal—viewing Michelangelo's famed Sistine Chapel frescoes. Please note: The Vatican is closed on Sundays. In the event that the itinerary day containing this optional lands on a Sunday for your departure, the optional will take place the day before. This excursion is  pre-book  only; if your trip is less than 90 days away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase. This excursion is also non-refundable 95 days prior to departure.

Make your way to the Naples Region and explore the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast is a 30+ mile stretch of coastline that happens to be pure Italian perfection—quaint towns, high cliffs towering over crashing Mediterranean waves, and enchanting views that never end. Today, you get to see all of it for yourself. Ready your camera, make room in your stomach for cake, and don’t even think about blinking. Okay you can blink. But quickly—you don’t want to miss this.

• Relax on a scenic pebble beach or shop your way through the colorful streets of Positano.

The day is yours to do as you wish, like enjoying the thing that Naples is known for: that bready, cheesy, tomato sauce topped stuff we call pizza. Or join your Tour Director for an excursion to Capri. Trust us, you haven’t lived lavishly until you’ve cruised around the island of Capri.

Ferry across the Bay of Naples then around the Isle of Capri, gawking at the incredible Arco Naturale and the famous Faraglioni rocks. Then travel by funicular railway to the ancient mountaintop island resort. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

As you make your way to the Rome Airport for your flight to Athens, join a local guide for a walking tour of the ancient city of Pompeii, which stands frozen in time after Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, completely destroying the town.

• Travel back to imperial Roman times and learn about Pompeii, the city covered in volcanic ash.
• Look up at Mt. Vesuvius, the deadly volcano that annihilated this city almost 2,000 years ago.
• Experience the buildings, artifacts and even people that have been extremely well preserved over the years.

Welcome to Athens! 2,500 years ago, it was kind of a happening place, and still is today—with fewer people in togas walking around. It’s a vibrant metropolis, and a perfect jumping-off point for your journey through the Greece. When the sun goes down, expect to see people socializing in the streets. It’s how they roll.

• Step back in time in the historic Acropolis of Athens with your local guide.
• See the Propylaea, the The Panathenaic (Olympic) Stadium, and a bunch of other structures you’ll need your guide’s help to pronounce.
• Take in incredible panoramic views of Athens from the citadel’s hilltop vantage point, and understand why the ancient city’s name translates to “high city”.

Head out from Athens to Mykonos by way of ferry. Though also rich in history, this island’s claim to fame is all-out, non-stop, dance-until-the-sun-comes-up nightlife. Between dazzling seascapes, sandy beaches and the best nightlife in the Mediterranean, get ready—you’ve got two big days and two even bigger nights here.

• Wave goodbye to Athens and set your sights for Mykonos as your board your ferry.
• Arrive in Mykonos and check in to your accommodation.
• Get to know the area with your Tour Director on a brief walk, and start planning out your evening.
• Spend your free time exploring a few of the islands 800 churches…or maybe just head to one of its 100 bars. You do you

Sun of a Beach: The late afternoon is a great time to beach it—a little breeze kicks up and the temperature dips just enough to make it feel great. Go to Church: Mykonos’ most famous church, the rock-like Panagia Paraportiani, is usually locked, but the fabulously photogenic whitewashed exterior is a spiritual experience in itself.

Spend the day in Mykonos doing what you want. Whether that’s a beach day, a food day, a food AND beach day, so be it. In Mykonos there is no wrong choice.

• Take the morning to rest and recover as you please.
• Lather on the SPF 75 (skincare is important) and head to the nearest beach.
• Pick up that bottle of olive oil you promised mom at one of the many shops.

Party in Paradise: By day, Paradise Beach is a hotspot for sun tanners, sand castle-builders, and partiers alike. By night, the sand is your dance floor and the entire beach erupts into a high-energy party that goes ‘til dawn. Super Paradise: Visit Super Paradise Beach, Paradise Beach’s smaller, quainter neighbor. Relax under an umbrella, hang out in a beach bar, and soak up your last day in this island paradise.

Explore a local farm, hear its history, and meet its animals. Then, help prepare a traditional meal. Vegetarian and vegan options available.

Athens felt neglected, so it’s a good thing you’re heading back to pay it another visit. End the trip with a bang in a city known for stunning views and world-class nightlife. By now, you’re an old pro when it comes to exploring Greece, so we’re giving you the day to adventure in Athens on your own before an included farewell dinner with the group.

• Take a ferry from Mykonos to Athens, and greet the ancient city like a really, really old friend.
• Revisit some favorite spots from day one in Athens, or go on a hunt to find new hidden gems.
• Check out some of the residential areas for an authentic look at life in Athens.
• Enjoy one last group dinner, and raise a glass to an epic trip.

Farewell Dinner Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included farewell dinner with the group.
