Our guide was a young man who seemed to have no end to his list of languages spoken. He asked every passenger who "hopped on" what language(s) they spoke. He then narrated the tour in each language. Very fun guy also. Let us stop at a viewpoint of the canal which happened to have sandwiches, drinks, etc. Knew so much about the area & very enthusiastic about his city.

Short on buses but long on time.

Kiel for us did not contain a lot of great sights. The canal seems to be the highlight. The bus route takes 1.5 hours, and the buses come by at 30 minute intervals or even more as I recall. The pickup is a few hundred meters from the cruise terminal, and directions from the terminal are not signed. We got one circuit in which hardly seemed worth the money. Nevertheless it was a good way to see the city (the extended stop at the canal is potentially worth it if ship traffic is cooperative). The narrative was interesting. It seems expensive for the length of the tour, but my wife and I are glad we booked it.

We were expecting stories about the Cold War , life in Berlin during it etc. instead it was just ‘there’s a neon cola sign that was used in the movies’, ‘there’s a s-bahn station that we recommend going in’. At one point, the guide said “restorated” instead of “restored” when talking about some of the old apartment buildings being done up. The banter between the two “guides” is so cringe and belittle absolutely every piece of history. I’d recommend any other bus tour if you’d like to actually learn something from the audio guide. Expect to wait at least 30-40mins. The other companies buses will pass by you at least twice. I had a similar experience in Seville with the same company, should have learnt my lesson then. When one finally did come, it was completely full and we couldn't get on. We walked to stop 1 to see if that would make a difference. The bus was there but the driver was on break having his currywurst. Another 15 minutes waiting on him to finish. Other bus companies were running perfectly with plenty of seating. This bus company wasted what precious little time we had to see Berlin. Pick another hop on hop off bus company if you want to enjoy your day seeing Berlin. Read more Written 27 April 2024

• NorthStar694318 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles The worst HO/HO bus we’ve experienced. My fiancé and I just did the 48 hr HO/HO bus in Berlin (no cruise, just bus) and it was awful. We’ve done many of these buses all over the world, with other companies and many times with City Sightseeing, and never had any issues. Which is why we were surprised by how bad this one was. The Pros: - The stop locations are in good places. You can see a lot of the main attractions with just a short walk. - Buses are warm, which was nice in the cold weather. The Cons: - The main red loop say takes its approx 2 hours to complete. However, it takes well over 3 hours to do a full lap. Same with the other loop. Significantly more than it says it will. Not because of traffic or weather, but because at every few stops the driver takes anywhere between a 10 to 20 minute break. Such a waste of time. You could probably walk it quicker. We like to do one full lap and decide which stops to get on/off on the next lap. But this isn’t possible as it takes so long to complete. Unless you’re getting on at the first few stops it could be after 10am before you even board and the buses stop at 6pm (so whatever stop you’re closest to at this time the bus terminates there). It sounds like a long time but once you factor in actually getting off and seeing the attractions and waiting for the next bus (see points below). It’s not a lot of time, especially if you only have a few days in the city. - They make a huge deal about not standing up whilst the bus is in motion (understandable, safety first and this isn’t the issue). On a few occasions, we were on the top deck, and as soon as the bus stopped we stood up and walked down, and by the time we’d get to the bottom of the stairs the driver had already pulled away to move on to the next stop and when we spoke up and said we were getting off it was as if it was an inconvenience for them to stop. So you either get 10 seconds to get off or 20 minutes. No in between. - The commentary wasn’t the best either. There wasn’t a lot, mostly music (compared to other tours we’ve taken) and when the commentator was talking it was so out of sync to where the bus actually was, so it was very confusing. We also found that the information wasn’t always the same. As we went on 2 different days, both days pointed out different things. - The bus drivers announced everything in German (bus stops, and every time there was a break. Which was a lot). We understand being in Germany, this is the national language. But if you’re a tourist, which most people are, you have no idea what they’re saying. Might be an idea to have announcements come through the headsets in the customers language. - Other companies give you a rough time table (obviously subject to change with traffic, weather etc), but all you’re given for this bus is a start time of 9:30am from stop 1 and the bus comes every half hour or so to each stop. But if you don’t know roughly how long between each stop or when the first one comes to each stop you spend more time waiting around. Over half our days were spent waiting as you didn’t want to miss it and have to wait for the next one (again, see above about all the breaks). - Stop locations aren’t always the same as what the maps say or aren’t very clear. There is no signage of where the bus stops (this may be a city thing as we didn’t notice any for other companies). But it does make it hard to work out where to hail the bus. - The route the bus takes also changes. Although it stops at the right stops, the route it takes to get there changed on a few occasions. No communications about it on the website and if the driver did communicate it we didn’t understand it as it was in German. I know this isn’t a huge problem, but if you wanted to drive past something in particular you might not. Also meant the commentary didn’t match. There were a few other minor things, but we can attribute them to other factors and not necessarily City Sightseeing so I won’t mention them to keep it honest. Overall, we wouldn’t do this tour with them again. We would with another company however. Read more Written 21 April 2024

You can get to see all, and if you want to explore, you just get off, explore then get on another bus on the same route. On Your A the guide audio didn't match up with half the sites. Universitätsstraße turned into Unter den Linden. Perhaps a diversion that forced the bus but the driver could have mentioned it. The bus driver also "forgot" (by his own admission) the last 3 stops and cut off a whole corner. Admittedly he restarted the tour after a dozen people pointed out the mistake. For everyone to be aware, if you get back on at the East Side Gallery, bear in mind the driver takes a 20 minute break there. If you then switch back to route A 2 stops later the next driver also takes a 20 minute drive. €90 for a family of 4. Learned some valuable high level info but poor experience overall. The Kiel City Hall, the Opera and the Kiel Castle clearly show the historical development through the resulting destruction of the Second World War.

Directly afterwards you can feel the close connection of the city to the water in Hiroshima Park and Kleinen Kiel, which runs as a former estuary in the city. Sporty Kiel boasts among other things, handball and football, the tour takes you past the stages of THW Kiel and Holstein Kiel. Finally, you can discover the redesigned Kiel Central and the Horn, where a new district on the waterfront in the heart of the city arises.
