Andréa Lisa will be returning to Melbourne for a very special show as part of her debut album release tour.

The Los Angeles based artist has achieved many significant milestones, including a feature on Grammy Award-Winning artist Kirk Whalum's album "Humanité”, as well as his upcoming album to be released this year.

In 2023, Andréa’s career continued to soar with the release of three new singles: “Vortex", "Golden Hour”, and "Like Each Other”. Her music has been widely recognized globally, with "Vortex" making its mark on Billboard Radio, SiriusXM Watercolors, iHeart Radio and landing on multiple charts. In September 2023, “Vortex” ranked the #1 Most Played Song on Sirius XM Watercolors.

Andréa has collaborated with renowned artists Jonathan Butler, Ralph Johnson (Earth Wind & Fire), and George Brown (Kool & the Gang). The D’Angelico endorsee’s guitar work on Kool & the Gang's latest album further solidifies her status as an exceptional musician.

With her powerful vocals, soulful melodies, and heartfelt lyrics, Andréa Lisa's music is a testament to her unwavering commitment to creating art that touches hearts and souls of many.

This concert will also feature some of her favourite musicians from her original band from New Zealand.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I was born in South Africa, but immigrated to New Zealand from a young age so New Zealand is home. I moved over to Los Angeles at the end of 2018 and have been predominantly playing guitars and singing with saxophonist Kirk Whalum for the last 4 years. I’m a passionate soul who is crazy about creating music.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I’ve always loved singing, I picked up the guitar later in life around age 14. I began with studying classical guitar and then went on to do a bachelors degree in jazz performance. Majoring in guitar and minor studies in vocals. I started song writing around age 16 and it felt very natural for me. I still feel like it’s the most natural and most magical part of everything that I do.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

My parents had a wide range of music they listened to, so it was everything from 70’s soul and RnB to 80’s Pop and Rock from my Dads side, and the different types of contemporary jazz my Mother enjoyed like Joe Sample and Michael Franks. And my siblings introduced me to artists like Jamiroquai and all the RnB pop soul divas. I think there’s a little bit of everything in what I do.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Soulful and Classic, kind of like if Alicia Keys played the guitar, and took solos in her songs like John Mayer.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

Emily King, I would say she does influence my songwriting.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

What are your plans for the future?

To keep releasing as many singles as I can, and in 2024 release the album. To do a lot more performing of my original music in Los Angeles and other states aside from what I do with Kirk Whalum. I have plans to travel to New Zealand and Australia for a tour to perform for all my fans who have been supporting me since I started. And In 2024 I plan to take my music to some countries I haven’t performed in too.

About Lisa Andrea Torres

Offering a versatile repertoire in English, Portuguese and Spanish; jazz vocalist Lisa Andrea Torres a San Francisco Bay Area native now based in Los Angeles, has been performing in California, Miami, Brazil, Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, the Philippines, and Mexico for the past 25 years, five of which were spent in Rio and São Paulo, Brazil. Expressing warmth and versatility, Lisa’s vocal style and musical arrangements combine elements of contemporary jazz, Latin jazz, and Brazilian bossa nova and samba. During and while living/performing in Brazil and Miami for over thirteen years, she began singing on the Asia circuit doing 4 month-contracts in nightclubs and hotels.

Since 2010, Lisa has been appearing regularly at local venues, blending the richness and diversity of North and South American music with many of the top Bay Area straight-ahead jazz, Latin Jazz and Brazilian Jazz musicians.

Innovative and rhythmic, Lisa’s debut CD The Seventh Sense produced and recorded in Miami, offers a fresh take on classics like Burt Bacharach’s “The Look of Love”, Brazilian composer Jorge Benjor’s “Mas Que Nada”, and Milton Nascimento’s “Nada Será Como Antes”. These standards along with her original compositions, create a ‘chill-out’ blend of rhythm, lyric, and style.

While studying music at San Francisco State University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Lisa began developing strong roots in straight-ahead jazz performing early on with some of the most talented and creative jazz trios and quartets in the Bay Area.

Premiere pianist and arranger Merrill Hoover who accompanied vocalists such as Anita O’Day, Ernestine Anderson, and Chris Connor became Lisa’s first vocal coach, mentor and accompanist enabling her to build a solid repertoire while instilling the essential qualities that makes a great performer. Developing strong roots in straight-ahead jazz, Lisa performed with Merrill at many venues around the Bay Area in trios that included jazz heavyweights such as Harold Jones drummer for Sarah Vaughn, Donald Bailey, saxophonist Benny Miller, and bassist Jeff Chambers.

Years later she broadened her learning and experience by including a variety of lyrical music from Brazil. She attributes a natural style and tasteful repertoire in Bossa Nova by performing and recording with legendary Brazilian pianist Marcos Silva, world-class drummer Celso Alberti, bassist Gary Brown, and guitarist Ricardo Peixoto who helped to instill her fundamental Brazilian “swing” before moving to Brazil to study, perform, and explore its many diverse musical rhythms and styles.

Instead of having a "Cruel Summer," Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's families are set to have a European spring!

The 14-time Grammy winner will have a large support system tagging along on when she kicks off the next leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour next month. Her parents, Scott and Andrea , as well as Travis' mom and dad, Donna and Ed, are planning to travel around Europe together. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end's brother, Jason , is even set to join in on the fun along the way!

Taylor and Travis' parents plan to start their journey at the beginning of next month, when the "Love Story" singer kicks off her first show in Paris, France, on Thursday, May 9, after a hiatus of almost two months, a source close to the pop star recently spilled to a news publication.

Scott, Andrea, Ed and Donna will reportedly stay overseas until May 30, and are set to soak up some sight-seeing and fine dining in Tuscany before arriving in Stockholm, Sweden, for Taylor's next string of shows.

The following weekend, they'll head over to Lisbon, Portugal, for two more nights of Taylor's sold-out concerts before finishing their lengthy vacation in Madrid, Spain, where the "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" singer has another two shows.

According to the insider, Travis is reportedly set to stay in Europe with Taylor as she travels back to France and then the United Kingdom for her next scheduled performance dates.

After Madrid, however, Taylor and her boyfriend's families will jet back home , the confidante explained.

"They have been talking about it for a while now and they all are so excited for this Euro trip," the source expressed.

"It's a great time and opportunity to get to know each other's families more," the confidante concluded. "They are all very excited about this, and to be there all together, as one family is perfect. Everyone is looking forward to that trip."

State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins is lost in Yonkers.

The woke pol, who is in lockstep with Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on soft-on-crime and defund-the-police policies, has seen mayhem spike in her hometown, according to data obtained by The Post.

Robberies this year have surged 63% and burglaries have ballooned 33%, Yonkers Police Department stats show. Felony assaults rose 8% and auto theft is up 2%, the figures reveal.

There have been two murders so far this year, up from zero in the same period a year ago.

“It’s crucial that . . . Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins reconsider bail reform laws for the safety of her community,” Frank McDonald, head of the Yonkers Police Benevolent Association, told The Post. “Public safety should be paramount, and measures must be taken to break the cycle of repeat offenders that threatens the well-being of residents in Yonkers and all of New York state.

“The priority should be to ensure the community’s safety, not to cater to the whims of habitual criminals,” he added.

Heastie, and lawmakers like Stewart-Cousins, are facing pressure to address a rise in violent crime in New York.

The two Democratic leaders were leading advocates  of the state’s controversial 2019 criminal justice reforms, which eliminated cash bail for most misdemeanor and non-violent felony charges — and created a revolving door for released felony suspects.

The Speaker’s Bronx district is currently dealing with massive surge in rape and robbery.

Yet Stewart-Cousins proclaimed to reporters in March 2023:“Our bail reforms have no correlation with an increase in crime.”

Tell that to Yonkers residents.

Two years ago a shocking video showed four brazen thieves use a sledgehammer to smash a Yonkers jewelry store window — then steal an estimated $100,000 worth of merchandise.

The broad daylight snatch-and-grab at Golden Square Jewelry on May 12, 2022, happened a little over a mile from Stewart-Cousins’ house. A car chase and manhunt ended with three of the thieves in cuffs, cops said.

“This is the Democrats,” a Golden Square Jewelry employee, who declined to give his name, said about the spike in crime. “Whatever I say, do you think we can change anything?”

Yonkers is still struggling with “post-Covid lawlessness,” according to Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza.

“We don’t believe in small crimes here in Yonkers. We believe that every crime is important. We’ve seen that small crimes turn into bigger crimes,” he told Fox News Digital in January, adding that bail reform and raising the age of criminal liability “make it harder to do our job and keep people in jail.”

Stewart-Cousins and Heastie “have been joined at the hip on bail reform and all of the changes to the New York state criminal justice system,” said Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant and adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. “In the face of adversity, they have both continued to deflect and gaslight. It’s also not a surprise that both of their districts are awash in mayhem — you reap what you sow.”
