I can’t live with out Trip

I am only going to write one review , I’ve been one of the lucky ones that can appreciate the era of Ctrip to now trip. I lived in the time as an expat I couldn’t get tickets if it want directly from a carrier in 2014. It was frustrating to say the least , when trip developed the English version it’s become a travel changer. It might not be perfect for some , but I can appreciate the work that has been done. Now all , the new features and upload of people’s travel pics is amazing. As a travel enthusiast and vlogger I love sharing my pics and thoughts. Over all thank u for this amazing app , that really makes traveling easier for us expats.

Usually dependable, but really screwed me this time

Hello, I signed up for a flight with my previously filled in credentials, and for some reason trip did not transfer my middle name when they bought the tickets. Because of this I allost missed my flight, as it didn’t match my passport information and China requires a middle name. The agent I talked to refused to change it, and they also refused to talk to the airline receptionist, to come to a reasonable and timely solution. Instead, they told me to cancel my flight- mid transfer, pay a fee of 90$, and then rebook a more expensive and later flight. I was waiting to board my flight, and I had already paid and everything told me not to do this, because it was unreasonable. The app wouldn’t let me manually change the information, even after 4 requests, it rejected them saying the airline disallowed it, even though the receptionist had given me specific directions of contacting trip to change it, so I knew the airline was actually fine with this. This was absurd, to be left without a flight despite the ‘cancellation insurance’ and really hurt the app for future flight purposes for me.

Holiday inn Southeast in Plainsboro, NJ

This hidden gem hotel provides all of the amazing amenities of the Crown Plaza Princeton ( which is basically attached to the holiday inn on an amazingly beautiful 27+ wooded acres featuring extensive running trails, a beautiful pond and multiply fountains and waterfalls….. not surprisingly, the IHG/Crown Plaza is frequently the site of weddings as well as conventions of a less romantic bent…. I was a guest at Holiday Inn/IHG Southeast for the Fall/winter of 2023 and was very impressed with their newly updated rooms ( renovation was completed on the Holiday Less than 6 months ago and the rooms have a splashy , bright, modern look that I actually prefer to the Crown a plaza , all while sharing the amenities of the aforementioned hotel….. it’s truly a great value! I’d like to conclude with a special Thank You especially to Jothathan as well as the other entire front desk staff who made my staff exceptionally comfortable, they were friendly and went above and beyond throughout my entire stay …. Just book directly through the airlines

After 4 years of trying (and failing) to get a refund from a cancelled flight from covid, it is safe to say that trip.com were the opposite of helpful. Using an agent like these means the airline can just pass on responsbility onto them, but trip.com kept saying they can’t do anything other than what the airline tells you. Since then I have learned two lessons - use a credit card so you can do a chargeback when companies like these are obstructive, and also book directly through airlines. It is much easier to deal with issues when there’s no unhelpful middle man.

Unhelpful and unresolving

Unhelpful and unresolving in my recent trip to London where the room I booked with Trip.com was not reserved with the hotel. The hotel provided a room that was not what I paid for then moved us to a lower star hotel. Trip.com was unable to help in recovering the payment I made and was unable to just charge me for the room I was provided. Extremely unhappy with service and result. I will not use them again. I also will never recommend them especially with several other third party options who protect their clients are available.

I’m concerned that “trip” charged me…

I’m concerned that “trip” charged me almost $60.00 for 1 checked luggage & found out later that American Airlines would have charged $35.00 per checked luggage. The air fare was basically the same price.

Charges more than Hotel.

Trip.com charges extra to customer whereas it should be cheaper than hotel. My recent stay at HolidayInn, Grimsby opened an eye. Trip.com charged me £72.53 for 1 night stay. But the invoice I received at check out from hotel was for £63.75!! Upon asking why is it different? Hotel said because difference is trip.com's commission....this is what I would had pay if I would book directly through HolidayInn. I am not doing this mistake again. And, for others, please don't blindly trust Trip.com do your homework.

I bought a ticket for my friend to…

I bought a ticket for my friend to travel from Malaga to Dubai to celebrate a birthday. The transfer time allowed a window of 120 mins. When checking in at Malaga they were told that luggage would not auto transfer and that they had to collect luggage and re checkin again. Two airlines advised them this would be impossible and the ticket should never have been sold!! Needless to say they missed connecting flight and then ended up the following day getting caught up in travel chaos due to Dubai storm. No flight was offered although insurance was purchased. Hotel not paid for. Customer service were awful and promised to call within 24-72 hours and they didn’t !! This was the worst travel experience my friend ever had and costs were enormous due to no taxis when they finally arrived in flooded Dubai. Lawsuit in the way to airline!!!

Half board booking not accepted by the hotel

While booking through Trip.com, it was assured that booking is half board (breakfast and one meal) for two persons. But at the hotel we were told that there was no such policy in their hotel, they only provide complementary breakfast.

How my family aced our first-time trip to new york city.

As we were preparing to land at LaGuardia, I gasped as my smile grew. The monumental Manhattan skyline I'd seen thousands of times on TV, in movies and photos was genuinely awe-inspiring. Filled with anticipation and a bit of panic, I could hardly wait to set foot in New York City for the first time.

"What? Really?" Without fail, that was the response when I told people I'd never been to NYC. Confession: I had long been obsessed with America's largest city, but also had found it incredibly intimidating. Would I be able to walk fast enough? (Yes.) Would my family get lost? (Just a couple of times.) Would I look like an unstylish, overwhelmed tourist? (Totally.) Did any of that matter during our nine-day trip in March? (Nope.)

But when my 12-year-old son, Charlie, suggested NYC for spring break, my first reaction was a definitive "no." Striking the right balance of experiences for my husband and me, as well as activities and sights to keep the kid interested, felt overwhelming.

On the other hand, I realized that family travel experiences are more important than my hangups. So I took the plunge, booked a flight, found a hotel in Manhattan (the stylish Kimpton Hotel Eventi in Chelsea, via Costco Travel), and cobbled together a semi-flexible itinerary, with a little something for everyone.

Little did I know, I'd even have a Bob Dylan-related celebrity spotting.

First impressions

• I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly New Yorkers are. When I mentioned that to an off-duty firefighter who struck up a conversation with us at a bar in the Meatpacking District, he joked, "Don't tell anyone."
• The breathtaking view from the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building was worth the cost.
• While Charlie was on the edge of his seat for a New York Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets game at Madison Square Garden, for me the best part was watching Knicks superfan Spike Lee's animated reactions from his courtside seat.
• The 9/11 Memorial & Museum was a somber yet rich experience. We appreciated the outdoor tour , where guide Emmeline Prior did an impressive job balancing history and stories with details surrounding the tragedy.
• Broadway did not disappoint, either. We saw two musicals: a preview of "The Outsiders," a compelling adaptation of S.E. Hinton's classic coming-of-age novel and the 1983 film featuring a cast of talented newcomers; and the hilarious "Little Shop of Horrors" off-Broadway, starring Evan Rachel Wood and Darren Criss.

By foot, car, subway, ferry or tram

It turns out that we'd been training 30 years for New York thanks to the Minnesota State Fair, where our family honed our expert crowd navigation skills that would come in handy on the bustling NYC streets — especially the crowded Brooklyn Bridge.

We walked tens of thousands of steps in NYC. Unfortunately, the first couple of days, it rained hard, prompting us to use ridesharing apps. But once we purchased our $34 MetroCards and tested our subway skills on our third day in town, it became second nature as we ventured all over Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.

We relied on the free Staten Island Ferry for a close look at the Statue of Liberty. For the best views, snag a seat on the right side when you board the boat and switch to the left for the return ride.

We rode the fun but crowded Roosevelt Island Tramway over the East River to explore the serene Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park and the ruins of the historic Smallpox Hospital. I had to bribe the kid with a treat from Anita La Mamma del Gelato for this stop. However, he became engaged when we discovered a bunch of cats lounging around at the nearby outdoor cat sanctuary run by the Wildlife Freedom Foundation.

Captivating tours

At the suggestion of my nephew's wife, we sought out a food tour in Jackson Heights, Queens. The minute we stepped out of the subway into the vibrant, densely packed neighborhood, the aromas and sights were a party for the senses. We joined Laura Siciliano-Rosen from Eat Your World , who guided us through a feast of savory and sweet cuisine from Bangladesh, Tibet, Nepal and Colombia. Standouts included a variety of momos (steamed dumplings), samay baji with goat suki (a bento box of snacks with dried goat meat) and chola bhuna (a Bangladeshi black chickpeas-potato dish commonly served during Ramadan). My son didn't love everything, but tried most of it and enjoyed the goat suki.

We also ventured to Harlem for a tour of the legendary Apollo Theater . Mr. Apollo himself, Billy Mitchell, featured in the HBO documentary "The Apollo," dazzled us with stories about seeing everyone from James Brown to H.E.R. for the first time at the theater. Mitchell's charisma and historical knowledge made for an engaging tour with a mock "Amateur Night," where our tourmates impressed us with their talents. Bonus: "The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (running through July 28) was a fine complement to the tour.

My husband and I had our hearts set on the "Birth of Punk" tour led by historian, author and musician Jesse Rifkin, of Walk on the Wild Side Tours NYC . The kid? He was happy to chill at the hotel while we splurged on a private tour. Beginning in Greenwich Village, the fascinating journey had surprises around every corner, whether it was Rifkin pointing out the loft where Kiss played their first Manhattan show opening for transgender punk icon Jayne County, standing in the spot where the Ramones posed for the "Rocket to Russia" album cover or studying the building where the Velvet Underground first met Andy Warhol and Nico.

Another night, I had a different kind of musical encounter. While my son and husband ventured off for barbecue in Koreatown, I met my NYC friend Brad at the kitschy Trailer Park Lounge . Leaving the dive bar, we noticed several vintage cars and a production crew set up by the Hotel Chelsea.

Turns out they were filming "A Complete Unknown," the new Bob Dylan biopic. I caught a brief glimpse of Timothée Chalamet, who plays Dylan, then watched them shoot a scene where Joan Baez, played by Monica Barbaro, attempts to hail a taxi. I even got scolded by a crew member for standing in the wrong place.

That quintessential New York moment was a great reminder to be open to the unexpected. In NYC, the next great experience could be right around the corner.

The New York Yankees won't have one of their stars back on their upcoming road trip.

New York has been missing ace Gerrit Cole for the entire season to this point but he is making progress in his recovery. He recently increased his throwing to 120 feet but he isn't ready to return yet.

Cole still needs to get back on the mound and likely a minor league assignment, but his progress should give Yankees fans hope. Although he is making progress, he won't be back with the club on the upcoming road trip, according to the New York Daily News Sports' Gary Phillips.

"Gerrit Cole will not travel with the Yankees on their upcoming trip," Phillips said.

If Cole continues to progress at the rate he has, it wouldn't be too surprising to see him begin throwing off a mound in the next week or so and make his way to the minor leagues to fine-tune. There have been rumblings that Cole could return in May and if he continues to recover at this rate that could be a reality.

There was a real fear in Spring Training that the Yankees could lose Cole for a lot longer than a month or two. Cole avoided the worst and should be able to get back on the mound in the not-so-distant future.

New York already has been one of the best teams in baseball so far this season and should get significantly better once the 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner gets on the mound.

There is another one closeby worth checking out: The Forest Heritage Scenic Byway starts in Brevard and leads drivers to scenic locations like Looking Glass Falls.

Forest Heritage Scenic Byway winds through about 64 miles of scenic WNC, passing through the Pisgah National Forest and intersecting the Blue Ridge Parkway and Waterfall Byway along the way.

Where is the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway?

A dedicated page on Scenicbyways.info states that the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway is 64 miles in length, a drive of around two hours. Beginning in Brevard and ending in Rosman, the road features areas perfect for recreation and scenic views including Sliding Rock, Pink Beds bog, several waterfalls and plenty more.

Things to do on the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway

It would be easy to turn a two-hour drive of the byway into a weekend trip. Here are a few of the many options for enjoying the area:

• Hiking - With most of the byway winding through Pisgah National Forest, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of hiking options available along the way. Enjoy waterfall hikes including Twin Falls and Moore Cove Falls , the unique bog environment of Pink Beds Loop and many more.
• Camping - Hoping to stay the night? Enjoy the river-adjacent Davidson Campground or former logging camp Sunburst Campground .
• Swimming - The byway also includes multiple swimming options, including the waterfall swimming hole at Looking Glass Falls and the famous naturally formed Sliding Rock.
• Picnicking - Enjoy picnicking and river access at Coontree Picnic Area , Sycamore Flats Picnic Shelter and plenty more directly along the byway's path through the forest.
• Culture & education - Driving the byway is also an excellent chance to learn about the area's rich natural and cultural history through institutions like the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education and the Cradle of Forestry.

What is a scenic byway?

To be designated a National Scenic Byway by the US Department of Transportation, a byway must meet the criteria for at least one of the following six "intrinsic qualities":

• Archeological
• Recreational

U.S. tourist faces 12 years in prison after taking ammunition to Turks and Caicos

An Oklahoma man faces up to 12 years in prison on a Caribbean island after customs officials found ammunition in his luggage.

Ryan Watson traveled to Turks and Caicos with his wife, Valerie, to celebrate his 40th birthday on April 7. They went with two friends who had also turned 40.

The vacation came to an abrupt end when airport staff members found a zip-close bag containing bullets in the couple's carry-on luggage. Watson said it was hunting ammunition he had accidentally brought with him — but under a strict law in Turks and Caicos, a court may still impose a mandatory 12-year sentence.

"They were hunting ammunition rounds that I use for whitetail deer," Watson told NBC Boston in an interview conducted last week that aired after their first court appearance Tuesday.

"I recognized them, and I thought, 'Oh, man, what a bonehead mistake that I had no idea that those were in there,'" he said.

The couple were arrested and charged with possession of ammunition. Authorities seized their passports and explained the penalties they faced.

Valerie Watson said in the interview: "When I heard that, I immediately was terrified, because I was like we can't both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home, and this is such an innocent mistake."

The charges against her were dropped, and she returned home to Oklahoma City on Tuesday after the court hearing to be reunited with her two young children.

"Our goal is to get Ryan home, because we can’t be a family without Dad," she said.

The couple also spoke about the financial burden of a much longer-than-planned trip. "This is something that we may never recover from," Ryan Watson said.

The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a warning to travelers in September about a law that strongly prohibits possession of firearms or ammunition in Turks and Caicos, an overseas British territory southeast of the Bahamas that is a popular vacation spot.

It said: "We wish to remind all travelers that declaring a weapon in your luggage with an airline carrier does not grant permission to bring the weapon into TCI [Turks and Caicos Islands] and will result in your arrest."

The embassy added: "If you bring a firearm or ammunition into TCI, we will not be able to secure your release from custody."

The embassy and the government in Turks and Caicos did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The same thing happened to another American, Bryan Hagerich, of Pennsylvania, who was arrested after ammunition was found in his luggage before he tried to board a flight out of Turks and Caicos in February. He said he accidentally left it in his bag.

Hagerich was on a family vacation with his wife and two young children but has now been in the country for 70 days. He spent eight days in prison before he posted bail.

"It’s incredibly scary. You know, you just don’t know what the next day may bring — you know, what path this may take," Hagerich told NBC Boston.

"You know, it’s certainly a lot different than packing your bags and going away with your family for a few days. It’s been the worst 70 days of my life," he said.

Hagerich, once a professional baseball player, was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the MLB 2007 June amateur draft from the University of Delaware.

His case goes to trial May 3.

Shares in Tesla came under pressure on Monday after the electric carmaker announced a round of price cuts ahead of a difficult set of results for the company’s chief executive, Elon Musk.

Tesla stock fell as much as 5% in early trading before recovering slightly to a deficit of 3.4% in the wake of the price reductions around the globe, including slashing the cost of three of its leading electric vehicles (EVs) and its self-driving software.

The CEO faces a key conference call with the investment community on Tuesday, when Tesla’s latest quarterly figures are expected to reveal its worst performance in seven years.

Tesla’s results come amid slowing global demand for EVs and pressure on prices from Chinese rivals. The company has already indicated a poor first quarter in terms of sales, after it revealed this month that deliveries missed market expectations by about 13% .

Tesla attempted to boost demand for its EVs late on Friday by cutting the prices of three of its five models in the US, then went on to cut prices around the world over the weekend, including in China, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

It cut the US prices of the Model Y, Tesla’s most popular model and the top-selling EV, and also of the older and more expensive Models X and S. Those cuts reduced the starting price for a Model Y to $42,990 (£34,874), and to $72,990 for a Model S and $77,990 for a Model X. It also slashed the US price of its Full Self-Driving driver assistance software from $12,000 to $8,000.

It also emerged on Friday that Tesla was recalling all 3,878 Cybertrucks it has shipped since the vehicle was released in late 2023 because of a faulty accelerator pedal. A filing from the US safety regulator said owners had reported that the pedal pad could come loose and get lodged in the interior trim, causing the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dan Ives, the managing director of the US financial services firm Wedbush Securities, said investors’ reaction to the price cuts on Monday showed they were worried “Tesla is panicking”, as well as reflecting concerns that the reductions would hit margins – a measure of profitability.

Tesla has already reacted to the slowdown by cutting more than 10% of its global workforce , equivalent to at least 14,000 roles.

Musk faces questions on Tuesday about growth in China, plans for a cheaper electric car known as the Model 2 and whether a reported switch in focus to self-driving robotaxis will affect the project. Shares in Tesla have declined more than 40% so far this year. Analysts at Wedbush wrote last week that Tuesday’s conference call represented a “moment of truth” for Musk and Tesla.

“While we have seen much more tenuous times in the Tesla story going back to 2015, 2018, 2020 … this time is clearly a bit different as for the first time many longtime Tesla believers are giving up on the story and throwing in the white towel,” Wedbush wrote in a note to investors.

Reuters reported this month that Tesla had halted development of the Model 2, prompting Musk to post on X that “Reuters is lying”, without citing any inaccuracies.

Musk said this weekend he would reschedule the India trip to a later date this year. He had been due to visit on 21 April and 22 April, where he had been expected to announce an investment of $2bn-3bn in India, according to Reuters, with the spending plans focused on building a new plant.

Musk’s now-postponed visit to Delhi had also been expected to include meetings with executives at space industry startups. The billionaire is awaiting Indian government regulatory approvals to begin offering his Starlink satellite broadband service in the country.
