It is definitely an experience. They play long shows and can pretty much play anything in their catalog at anytime. The band is super tight and can also spontaneously improvise. The demon god Boognish casts an approving gaze upon the spectacle.

I havent seen Gene and Dean for a LONG TIME! Since they had their troubles and solo time. This tour was amazing!!! They were able to show the kids that two old geezers could still rock n' roll!!! Artpark is an absolute OUTSTANDING VENUE! 10/10!!!!
Ween isn't a live band: they are THE live band. If you haven't found this out by listening to their live albums, you'll find this out soon enough by seeing them perform. This is their natural habitat, freeing them to all the room to jam and joke that the band ever needed. I can't recommend them if you don't like their records, but if you do, they stand taller onstage than they ever did in your headphones.

Ween Announce U.S. Tour
By Jazz Monroe
Ween will tour the United States this year. The jaunt begins next month in Dallas, Texas, at the South Side Ballroom, and wraps in September at New Hampshire’s Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. Big shows in Oakland and Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre are among those sandwiched in-between. Check out the itinerary below.
Gene and Dean Ween reunited with drummer Claude Coleman Jr., bassist Dave Dreiwitz, and keyboardist Glenn McClelland in 2016 for a pair of Colorado shows that kicked off a spate of sporadic tour dates (albeit without accompanying new music). This is their first formal tour since the reunion, and with it comes a new merch store offering Ween koozies, keychains, and soap on a rope, among other treats.

Ween Announces 14-Date Summer Tour, First Since 2016
Ween is getting back on the road for the band’s first full-fledged tour since reuniting in 2016 . Announced on Tuesday, the band’s 14-date summer tour will feature shows from coast to coast from July through September.
Ween’s summer tour will begin on the West Coast and move eastward, starting in late July with a trio of California shows at Greek Theatre in Los Angeles (7/28) the Fox Theater in Oakland (7/29), and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Wheatland (7/30).
Following a gig at Sandy Amphitheater in Salt Lake City (8/1), Ween will return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre (8/3). The band last played the iconic Morrison, CO venue last August as part of the South Park 25th anniversary concerts with Primus and series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone . Prior to that, Ween’s last headlining shows at Red Rocks came in the form of a two-night run in 2018.
Moving through the Midwest, Ween will stop in Kansas City, MO (8/4) and St. Louis, MO (8/5) before breaking for a month. In September, the band will pick up where things left off with shows in Minneapolis (9/8), Chicago (9/9), Madison, WI (9/10), and Newport, KY (9/12). Finally, the tour will wrap with a run of Northeastern dates in New York, NY (9/14), Providence, RI (9/15), and Hampton Beach, NH (9/16).
Tickets for the 2023 Ween summer tour go on sale to the general public on Friday at 12 p.m. ET. Pre-sales begin on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time. The band also relaunched a new-and-improved online store .
Following a year-long reunion tour in 2016, Ween has shied away from extensive road dates and instead opted for a weekend warrior approach of three-night runs— oftentimes spread across two states —scattered throughout the year. The band just completed another trip to Las Vegas’ Brooklyn Bowl over the weekend, marking the first Ween shows of the year as well as Gene Ween (Aaron Freeman)’s 53rd birthday. Revisit Live For Live Music ‘s review of the three-night affair here .

It’s a hazy, summer evening in the American Fartland, and in the security line to the outdoor Ween concert — which snakes around the block into an alley — a man is shouting. Shirtless, or at least shirtless in the memory of this observer, he lumbered through the queued multitude, unleashing a stricken bellow: “Big Jilm! Big Jilm!” “Big Jilm” is, of course, a track from Ween’s 1992 major-label breakthrough “Pure Guava,” and a live favorite. But why was this man hollering it outside the venue before the concert had even begun? Was he befuddled by drink or dope, as the hitch in his walk and the lurch in his voice suggested? Did he really think the band would somehow hear, and honor, his request, or was it all an act in the service of pre-concert shenanigans? (Spoiler alert: Ween did not play “Big Jilm.”)
The question of how much of Ween’s particular blend of sordid edgelord humor, solvent-huffing surrealism and crotch-thrusting classic-rock dynamics is a bit — a calculated and knowing performance — and how much is sincere used to come up a lot, but it’s ultimately one the band has made irrelevant through sheer persistence and surprising resilience. Notions of irony and appropriation, three-plus decades into the band’s career, seem entirely beside the point. The band — core duo Gene and Dean Ween on vocals and guitar, and longtime trusted associates Glenn McClelland on keys, Dave Dreiwitz on bass and the indefatigable Clyde Coleman Jr. on drums — have proved their integrity by sticking around and playing their hearts out to steadily growing audiences as the decades roll on by.
While most bands of their vintage have turned to ‘90s package tours or the desperate measure of alternative-nation-themed cruises, Ween has continually garnered an impressive array of new fans. At least half the diverse Kansas City crowd looked to have been toddlers, or, incredibly, not even born yet when the band scored a novelty hit on MTV with “Push th’ Little Daisies,” thanks to a clutch endorsement from Beavis and Butthead. Nostalgia has no place in a Ween show — or, if it does, it’s nostalgia for an era entirely of Ween’s own creation, one in which the slinky hedonism of Prince mixed with the precise virtuosity of Steely Dan, the hambone melancholy of Jimmy Buffett, the heavy sumptuousness of Hawkwind and the dramatic wizardry of Pink Floyd. This sui generis brew is then filtered through a zany, subversive cartoonishness that mocks and celebrates those and countless other influences in equal measure.
Do some of Ween’s references and japes seem dated? Well, the band’s decision to “dust off” as the Deaner phrased it, the aggressively tasteless relic “The HIV Song,” from 1994’s Chocolate and Cheese felt unnecessary, and the fake Jamaican patois adopted by Gene (who is a master of accents and character voices, it must be said) for “Mango Woman,” the b-side for the “Push the’ Little Daisies” single, could probably be relegated to the realm of “It was a different time.” But largely, even the band’s angrier breakup anthems — Dean’s toxic county barnburner “Piss Up a Rope” and especially the sublimely dissonant “Baby Bitch,” which contrasts male vitriol with a creamy vocal melody to enormous effect — landed with all the inventive melodic power and emotional heft that’s been surprising critics and flummoxing naysayers for as long as the band’s been at it.
The last time Ween played Kansas City was in 2018, only a few years after the band reunited following Gene’s departure to work on his various addictions. At that show, Dean was clearly driving, while Gene, if not exactly shaky, appeared hesitant to really throw down. Five years later, Gene looked to be on firmer footing — in “fine fettle,” in the language of music critics covering middle-aged acts — dancing, emoting and commanding the stage like an oddly compelling mix of Michael Stipe and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” mainstay Colin Mochrie. His vocals and demented charisma shone on the bizarro-world Yankee Hotel Foxtrot -era-Wilco jam “Exactly Where I’m At” and a monstrously sexed up version of “Springtheme,” from Pure Guava, transforming the original’s enjoyable romp to a luxurious display of sticky bedroom funk, with especially decadent, engaged work from Dreiwitz and Coleman.
The world of Ween has always been built around the fate-kissed partnership of Gene and Dean (they met in junior high, according to the lore), and a less lopsided dynamic between them has greatly increased their power. Dean’s powerhouse guitar theatrics — he’s an expert at Van Halen-style shredding, Teutonic thrash, swampy choogle and beefy All-American noise, as well as sundry other styles — work best against Gene’s delicate, almost elfin grace and ability to sound sincerely romantic even when singing about scabrous subjects. The best example of this came late in the sprawling 37-song set, when Coleman, Dreiwitz and McClelland left the stage, leaving Ween’s founding fathers to play a moody “Squelch the Weasel,” from their debut album God Ween Satan: The Oneness, together, as it was in the beginning. The pair infused the lilting psychedelic trifle with a palpable melancholy, giving us a sweetly sad, intimate window into their long partnership, acknowledging the weight of the years and the heaviness of their shared experience. Few bands can tap into the primordial essence of their being so purely and simply late in their career, and no band but Ween could do it in a song called “Squelch the Weasel.” In true form, the rest of the musicians returned to the stage to follow up this moment of tender revelation with the triumphantly tropical live staple “Ocean Man,” giving it all the brio and zest in their considerable arsenal.
Though the band has not released a studio album in more than a decade and a half, Ween continues to find plenty of life and novelty in their extensive catalog, playing at least a couple songs from every album and digging into a wealth of b-sides, compilation tracks and deep cuts. (“Loop de Loop,” a primer on how to tie your shoes from Spongebob Squarepants was a delightful surprise). As for the gregarious “Big Jilm” fan from the entrance line, well, he may not have heard his favorite jam, but he probably didn’t leave disappointed. And if he was bummed out, he could take solace in knowing that there’s a good chance he’ll hear it in the years to come, as Ween shows no signs of slowing down or burning out. Time, amazingly — somehow — is on their side.
